LooseLeash Anchor

The LooseLeash Anchor is a property fixture that lets your companion pet roam autonomously through your home. Instead of sitting idle in your hand or following you room to room, your pet becomes a living part of your property -- wandering between rooms, reacting to visitors, and expressing a full range of moods, all on its own.

Setup

Purchase the certificate and RAISE it in the room where you want it placed. Once placed, the anchor cannot be moved without GM assistance, so choose carefully.

The anchor starts as a companion nook. To activate it, hold your pet's summoning device and TAP the anchor. The device is stowed inside and your companion is released to roam freely. The anchor's appearance transforms to match your pet type, becoming its home base.

To reclaim your pet and device, simply GET the anchor. The pet is dismissed, the device returns to your hand, and the anchor goes quiet until next time.

Only the property owner can operate the anchor. Visitors may LOOK at it and ANALYZE it, but all configuration verbs -- TAP, GET, TURN, PUSH, PULL, LEAN, TWIST, TOUCH -- are restricted to the owner's account.

Pet Type Lock-In

The first time you stow a device in an anchor, the anchor permanently locks to that pet type if unlocked beforehand. A cat anchor will only accept cat devices from that point forward. This ensures the fixture's appearance always matches the companion it was built for.

Anchor Appearances by Pet Type - standard

When you stow a device, the anchor transforms to reflect your companion:

Pet Type Anchor Appearance Description
Dragonfly crystal-paneled terrarium Tiny ferns and mosses bearing dewdrops fill a crystal-paneled terrarium of dark rosewood. A shallow pool shimmers within, reflecting prismatic light.
Mandrake rune-etched planter Ancient runes circle a terracotta planter filled with rich, dark soil. A small watering can, a tiny eyemask, and a vial of alchemical nutrients rest beside it.
Teadragon hand-painted nest Delicate tea-leaf motifs adorn a hand-painted porcelain nesting pot, glazed in delicate pastel tones. A tiny enameled teapot lid and bowl of special fortified tea wait alongside.
Fishie sculpted glass fishbowl Crystal-clear water fills a sculpted glass fishbowl set upon a polished brass stand. Smooth river stones and a sprig forest of bright green waterweed line the bottom.

Sand elemental crystal-lined sandscape Fine, multi-hued sand fills a shallow crystal basin, tiny dunes shifting and reforming on their own. A faint warmth radiates from the crystalline walls, and grains glitter within.
Shade-skink shadow-draped terrarium Dark slate ledges jut from the walls of a dim terrarium draped in perpetual shadow. Cool stones, crystals and crevices offer countless places to hide within the twilight interior.
Clockwerke golem gear-strewn toolbox Loose cogs, tiny springs, and brass fittings litter a small glass-fronted toolbox. A faint smell of oil and warm metal hangs in the air around it.
Squirrel leaf-lined nesting box Dried leaves, soft moss, and bits of bark line a cozy wooden nesting box with a round entrance hole. A small pile of acorn caps sits in one corner.
Cat / Kitten velvet-cushioned bed Plush velvet cushions a low mahogany frame, tiny paw prints embroidered along the edge. A polished water dish and silver food bowl rest nearby.
Fox / Fox Kit fur-trimmed den Thick fur trims a smooth hearthstone den, warm and snug inside. A shallow water dish and small food bowl rest at its entrance.
Puppy satin-lined basket Cream satin lines a sturdy wicker basket, a well-loved chew toy tucked in one corner. A ceramic water bowl and gleaming food dish sit alongside.
Lamb fleece-padded cradle Soft fleece pads a pale cedarwood cradle, its rails carved with curling vines. A shallow water trough and small hay-filled manger wait beside it.
Hedgehog moss-cushioned burrow Dark moss cushions a hollowed ironwood burrow, cozy and dim within. A tiny water saucer and shallow dish of treats rest at its entrance.
Rat silk-draped nest Soft silk drapes a woven ebonwood nest, layered with shredded velvet scraps. A miniature water bottle and seed dish perch beside it.
Songbird ornate gilded perch An ornate gilded perch rises from a carved wooden base, polished to a warm shine. A crystal water cup and silver seed dish hang from delicate chains.
Jerboa sand-lined crock Fine desert sand lines a squat clay crock, its rim etched with tiny hopping footprints. A ceramic water dish and seed cup nestle into the warm sand.

How Pets Behave

Roaming Pets

Cats, Puppies, Foxes, Lambs, Hedgehogs, Rats, Songbirds, Jerboas, Dragonflies, Mandrakes, and Teadragons physically wander between rooms in your property. The pet moves room to room on a timer, and everyone in the departure and arrival rooms sees it come and go. Between movements, the pet emits mood-flavored ambient messages -- stretching, playing, grumbling, nuzzling visitors.

Roaming pets respect zone restrictions (see Roaming Zones below) and will never wander outside your property boundaries.

Stationary Pets

Lizards, Wermths, Fishies, Spiders, Wisps, Sand Elementals, Shade-skinks, Clockwerke Golems, and Squirrels live inside the anchor itself rather than roaming. All of their ambient behavior -- swimming, sleeping, playing, sulking -- is delivered to the room where the anchor sits, describing what the pet is doing inside its enclosure.

Fishies Tier 5 or higher unlock a special garbage disposal feature: you can PUT items into the fishbowl and the fish will permanently destroy them. Safety checks prevent cursed, registered, magical, metal, and high-value items from being fed. Items worth 50,000 silver or more will prompt a confirmation warning -- you'll need to try again within 30 seconds to proceed.

Wermths and Spiders support the FEED verb on the anchor, which produces a flavor scene of a small creature being offered to the enclosure. No item is actually consumed -- it's pure atmosphere.

The Mood System

Nine moods shape how your pet behaves. Each has its own set of ambient messages and, for roaming pets, departure and arrival descriptions.

# Mood Personality
1 Welcoming Friendly, warm, greeting visitors with chirps and nuzzles
2 Grumpy Irritable, huffing, swatting at dust motes, ignoring everyone
3 Sleeping Dozing, snoring softly, twitching in dreams, blissfully unaware. Sleeping pets do not wander -- they stay put until the mood changes.
4 Playing Bouncing, pouncing, chasing tails, skidding about with reckless energy
5 Offended Wounded dignity, haughty sniffs, exaggerated primness, judgmental stares
6 Drunk Staggering sideways, hiccupping, bumping into things, weaving unsteadily
7 Curious Investigating everything, sniffing at the air, peering at odd things, nose twitching
8 Anxious Nervous, jumpy, startling at shadows, huddling close
9 Affectionate Rubbing against legs, rolling over for belly rubs, purring, gazing up adoringly

Manual Mood Control

TURN the anchor to cycle through moods one at a time (1 through 9, wrapping back to 1). Setting a mood manually disables auto-cycling if it was on.

Auto-Cycle Mode

LEAN on the anchor to toggle hourly auto-cycling. When enabled, the mood advances by one every hour automatically, giving your property a constantly shifting atmosphere without any input from you.

Other Settings

Guest Mode

TOUCH the anchor to toggle Guest Mode. When enabled, your pet only becomes active when a visitor (someone other than the property owner) is present in the room. Your home feels quiet when you're alone, but comes alive the moment a guest walks in. When Guest Mode is off, the pet expresses itself freely regardless of who's around.

Roaming Speed

Three speed settings control how often your pet acts -- either moving to a new room or emitting an ambient message:

Speed Interval Feel
Slow Every 10 minutes Languid and unhurried
Normal Every 5 minutes Comfortable and easy
Fast Every 3 minutes Lively and spirited

PUSH the anchor to speed up. PULL to slow down. Changes take effect immediately.

Roaming Zones

TWIST the anchor to cycle through three zone options:

  • All rooms -- the pet wanders freely through every room in the property
  • Indoors only -- the pet stays inside
  • Outdoors only -- the pet sticks to outdoor areas (gardens, yards, paths)

Stationary pets cannot have their zone changed -- they live in their enclosure.

Night Behavior

When it's nighttime in the game, your pet may occasionally emit a sleep message regardless of its current mood -- curling up, snoring softly, twitching in dreams. This gives properties a natural day/night rhythm.

Ambient Messaging

All of the pet's activity is delivered through the standard ambient messaging system. If you have ambient messages turned off, you won't see the pet's behavior -- but it's still there for those who do.

Multiple Anchors

You can place more than one anchor in a property. Each operates independently with its own device, mood, speed, zone, and guest mode settings. A cat roaming the indoor rooms and a songbird in the garden, a fishbowl in the study and a puppy in the foyer -- each anchor runs on its own.

Only one anchor per room can be placed.

Compatible Property Types

The anchor works on any private property with a defined room range, including:

  • Premium Properties
  • Stalls and Lofts
  • Bungalows
  • Any other space with a contiguous block of rooms (such as in a neighborhood or CHE properties) though not offered at this time.

Remote Management

All anchor settings can be managed remotely from anywhere using the PROPERTY PET verb -- no need to be standing at the anchor.

Command What It Does
PROPERTY PET View all anchors and their current settings
PROPERTY PET INFO Same as above
PROPERTY PET MOOD Cycle mood (1 through 9)
PROPERTY PET SPEED Cycle speed (Slow / Normal / Fast)
PROPERTY PET CYCLE Toggle hourly auto-cycle mood
PROPERTY PET ZONE Cycle roaming zone (All / Indoor / Outdoor)
PROPERTY PET GUEST Toggle guest mode on or off

With multiple anchors, specify which one by its room number:

Command What It Does
PROPERTY PET 51234 MOOD Cycle mood on the anchor in room 51234
PROPERTY PET 51234 SPEED Cycle speed on the anchor in room 51234

If only one anchor exists, the room number is optional.

Alteration

The anchor is a furniture piece and can be altered like any other. A custom name can be assigned to your pet through GM alteration, overriding the creature's default name with something personal (e.g., "Mister Whiskers" instead of "a fluffy white cat"). Everything else -- mood, speed, zone, guest mode -- is controlled by you through normal gameplay verbs.
