Synopsis

A shouting kobold in the forest draws the attention of some Landing adventurers, who locate the source and find a reiver who's there with a message: his people don't like the hammering night and day from the settlements, the worries of some are turning into the worries of many, tell the Imperials the reivers want them gone and they're not welcome beyond the river, and Talbot Dabbings would turn over in his grave. The reivers don't want to fight the folks who have been living here, but the new ones have "unease about them" and he sees trouble in his prayers, where the spirit of Darkstone Castle is in his sleep and a nightmare comes.

Time passes after the reiver leaves, but eventually specks of dirt rise toward the far end of the Upper Trollfang, near the Foothills of the Zeltoph. Sir Cryheart's group makes it to one of the wagons, then knocking and clicking sounds come from inside--but it's an ambush! Gnul's forces take a cue from Elidal's tactics and use a fake wagon as goblin snipers launch a hail of crossbow fire at the Landing adventurers!

Gremlins overrun Town Square Central and eventually stone arcanists make it through the breached sanctuary as well, sending triage into the Raging Thrak Inn Trophy room. Griffins begin to swoop in and rock trolls and krynches mob the town--and meanwhile, amidst it all, the real caravan appears in the distance. Minotaurs join the fray, newly recruited in Gnul's army, and the battle only grows increasingly intense from there as the Glatoph's most experienced frost giants and cold guardians lend their forces to the assault!

A row of wagons surrounded by Imperial soldiers manages to make it to the Hendoran outpost, but meanwhile hordes of giants, trolls, and minotaurs continue their assault on the Landing. Commander Sablo throws an axe through a goblin's face, then marches into the forest. Meanwhile, gremlins and goblins breach the sanctuary of the Raging Thrak Inn, stone sentinels create their shimmering circles throughout the streets, and even steel golems join in.

Gnul makes a declaration, saying that if everyone wants to welcome and worship a crown, he'll give them a king. His forces have united, claiming the mountains, valleys, and ants of their town and dismisses the humans who think their words hold weight. The Symbol of Need flares up from two points of town overrun by stone arcanists, muscular lions, dark red bears, steel golems, stone giants, stonecallers, stone mastiffs, stone warbringers, krynch warriors, storm griffins, gold-feathered griffins, earth elementals, frost giants, troll soldiers, stone trolls, minotaur magi, stone legionnaires, minotaur warriors, ice trolls, and storm giants--and all this while the Lower Dragonsclaw forest is also flooded and overrun with monsters!

Griffins swoop into town square--all of it, not just TSC--and minotaurs break into the Raging Thrak, forcing many to pull back from the trophy room to the Voln monastery as even bringing people to the inn is unsafe. Sablo continues slaying ice trolls and orcs in the forest.

And now I have to go OOC because, as far as I can tell, the night abruptly stopped there. No further message from Gnul, no reason he'd pull back, no official horn to sound retreat in the first place, no thanks from Elidal, no followup on the settlers, no further sightings of Sablo, nothing. It was going and then suddenly it was over.

Speaking to Alosaka, Kiyna says, "I keep hearing this bandied about, but these are settlers, not refugees. Years have passed since the Talador incident. The settlers call themselves so. They are here of their own accord, not by necessity."

Speaking to Kiyna, Alosaka says, "Interesting. I suppose, by that logic, the Aelotoi are no longer refugees, then? After all, it's been years."

Speaking to Kiyna, Alosaka says, "Or, I don't know, perhaps trauma like that suffered by the survivors of Talador takes more than a few years."
Speaking quietly to Alosaka, Tikba says, "And I am sure the settlers are glad to have your clever tongue defending their interests."

Kayse offhandedly says, "I think invasive species might be a better term, but what do I know."

Alosaka says, "Feel free, of course, to fight because it's the right thing to do."
Chamorr heartily says, "Help the empire expand, its the right thing to do."

A goblin archer runs by, throwing his bow to the ground and trying to scamper away.  Suddenly, a jagged blue tomahawk comes spinning into view, taking the creature directly in the head and pinning him into a tree trunk, axe sunken through its face and into the bark.  A tall, broad shoulder human almost saunters into view, with hazel eyes speckled with amber and boring into his victim.  Blood already has splattered half of his face, almost entirely concealing a pink scar that splits his left eyebrow.  He reaches into his scabbard, removes a silver tomahawk, and tears out the goblins throat for good measure.  He rips his blue tomahawk free from the goblin's splintered face, letting the creature slump in death.  The human raises his tomahawks and marches off into the forest.
Leafiara says, "I like how the Empire was too dumb to send that guy with the first caravan."

A nasty little blue gremlin just scampered in. [...to the trophy room]
Speaking quietly to a nasty little blue gremlin, Pekka asks, "Seriously?"
Chandrellia exclaims, "Oh come on!"
Tikba wryly says, "I suppose they follow the bodies."
A nasty little yellow gremlin just scampered in.
Elliathe says, "Well if that doesn't beat all."
Pekka quietly says, "I'm about to lose my happy thoughts."
Leafiara says, "You know, it's nights like this I really want to just say let's let the Landing burn."

[General] Irval thinks, "Giant and a few goblins down in the north  western part of square. They've been dispatched but more are following? I fear Gnul has recruited allies of all types to his banner . . ."

[General] Leafiara thinks, "Councilor Pookia righly noted on the first night of Gnul's attack that the Illoke mobilized faster than many Landing citizens even heard about the Empire's announcement. Gnul's simply been maintaining the pace."

A big ugly kobold exclaims, "Holp!  Holp!  Invashun!"
Speaking to a big ugly kobold, Chandrellia says, "Yes we know."
Speaking quietly to a big ugly kobold, Pekka says, "You don't. Say."

A human man emerges from the edge of the forest, further caked in blood, with a few wounds along his arm and blood seeping from his side.  He drags the headless body of an ice troll behind him.  A group of orc archers rush into view, firing a volley of arrows at him, but the warrior grabs the corpse, pulls it up and uses its body to block the attack.  He growls, throwing tomahawks at the orcs before he charges after them, chasing them into the woods.
[General] Dendum thinks, "Bah they missed."
[General] Kelfyr thinks, "Funny, you'd expect a leader to be leading troops, not running around alone among the enemy."
[General] Thrassus asks, "Well, that's what most of us do normally isn't it?"
[General] Kelfyr thinks, "Most of us aren't the designated leader of the baronial forces."

Kahan asks, "Anyone need a cleric?"
Speaking to Kahan, Bellaja says, "Only for confession, perhaps."
Kahan asks, "What would you like to confess my child?"
Speaking to Kahan, Bellaja says, "I would need a few hours."

Dendum asks, "You all kick the Gryphons out of town square?"
Dendum points northwest.
Dendum asks, "Why is rest of council with gryphons in fron of Thrak?"
Leafiara scratches her head.
Speaking to Dendum, Archious says, "You know why."
Speaking to Archious, Leafiara asks, "Because the Gryphons are the ones who really run town?"
Dendum starts to snorfle, but suddenly turns purple and erupts into a coughing fit!
Leafiara chuckles.
Ithilwyn softly asks, "You ok?"
Ithilwyn peers quizzically at Dendum.
Dendum says, "Hrmm yes."
Dendum starts chortling.

Speaking to Leafiara, Chandrellia asks, "That was fun can we do it again?"
Speaking to Chandrellia, Dendum says, ""Yes."
Speaking to Chandrellia, Leafiara says, "I'm sure Gnul will have plans for something like it again."
Dendum says, "Surely they will bring more caravans."
Dendum says, "With more invaders."
Leafiara says, "And I'm sure the Empire will continue to contribute no help whatsoever."
Leafiara says, "While somehow convincing a bunch of fools that the Barony of Darkstone is an ally."
Dendum says, "Maybe they will knight the Vaemyr."
Dendum says, "For truly who has done more for the Sun Throne than Vaemyr."

Speaking to Pookia, Archious says, "We should speak further another time. You have alternative paths that you may not yet have considered."
Speaking to Archious, Pookia exclaims, "That sounds great. my office door is always open! literally, i ripped the door off the hinges!"

The Reivers' Message of Concern

[Raging Thrak, Trophy Room]

Tiny smudges of soot mar the fieldstones used to create the grand fireplace in this cozy room. A collection of plaques hangs above an immense grey marble mantel cluttered with trophy cups and bowls. Fashioned from a single stone slab, the hearth extends to an impressive black bear rug with its maw frozen in a silent roar. Several overstuffed wingback chairs, each covered in deep jewel-tone chintz, are scattered about the room. Against the back wall, a tall glass-front curio houses several ancient mementos and a thrak hide curtain hangs nearby. You also see the Guv disk, an intricately woven straw wastebasket and a basket of sticks.

Clangs of metal against metal echo through the Lower Dragonsclaw, followed by what is clearly a kobold shouting, "Wot to do?! Wot to do?!"

[Town Square Central]

This is the heart of the main square of Wehnimer's Landing. The impromptu shops of the bazaar are clustered around this central gathering place, where townsfolk, travellers, and adventurers meet to talk, conspire or raise expeditions to the far-flung reaches of Elanith. At the north end, an old well, with moss-covered stones and a craggy roof, is shaded from the moonlight by a strong, robust tree. The oak is tall and straight, and it is apparent that the roots run deep. You also see the Wraithboern disk, the Anatasha disk, the Margus disk, the Kryptiva disk, the Alwina disk, the Warrden disk, the Azclepi disk, an inlaid leather grimoire soaring around with its gilt-swept ethereal violet pinions, a yellow-eyed silvery lor mandrake sprouting yellow primroses, the web-draped Missoni disk, the repousse copper Perigourd disk raised in leafy designs, a lazy wild silver-grey dog, the Mordus disk, the Stormyrain disk, some manna bread, some manna bread, a large acorn, a grizzled giant purple squirrel with onyx black eyes, the skull-shaped Irval disk, a round silver-banded barrel, an herbal remedy donation bin and some wide stone benches with some stuff on it.

Vaemyr says, "Gonna go take a look."

Town Councilor Vaemyr's group dissolves into motes of vermillion light that flow west.

Kiyna says, "Since Pukk isn't here..."

Cryheart says, "Shall we entertain the idea."

Mourdeyan quietly asks, "Mebbe they takin em a herd of Roltons?"

Stormyrain says, "We should at least see what is going on yes."

Kiyna recites:

"Everyone join Cryheart!"

Cryheart says, "Of visiting the kobbies."

Cryheart says, "Please dinnae attack the kobbies until we find out what is going on."

Rasson says, "I think they hurt themselves just fine."

[Lower Dragonsclaw, Forest]

Modwir trees predominate this section of forest, as though the oak, satisfied with its allotted space, has made room for the tall pines. A venerable one-eyed reiver exclaims, "Now we have them outnumbered!"

Speaking to a venerable one-eyed reiver, Perigourd asks, "How goes it upon the mountain?"

Cryheart says, "Good evening."

Speaking to Cryheart, Yardie asks, "We're not harming them, correct?"

Cryheart says, "Aye, they are always the recipient of attacks."

Speaking to a venerable one-eyed reiver, Drazaa asks, "Out numbered you say?"

Cryheart says, "Even to themselves."

Speaking to Cryheart, Yardie asks, "What attacks?"

Speaking to Yardie, Vaemyr says, "Well... unless they swing at folks... many of use have defensive magics that lash out at attackers."

Cryheart says, "Upon themeselves."

Cryheart nods at Yardie.

Vaemyr says, "For now the area is sanctified."

Mourdeyan quietly says, "We arena harmin them thout good reason."

Speaking politely to Vaemyr, Yardie says, "Just leave them be, yeah? No need to fight them or the reivers."

Mourdeyan quietly says, "I can't think of a good reason."

A venerable one-eyed reiver says, "Come to pass word on. My people are not keen to all this noise in the lowlands. The hammering all day and night, keeping a right many of us on our toes for battle."

Alosaka says, "They might be stirred up by Gnul's machinations."

Kelfyr says, "Move along little guy."

Speaking to a venerable one-eyed reiver, Missoni asks, "I am sure it will slow down once the settlers have...ah... finalized their shelters?"

A venerable one-eyed reiver says, "The worries of some are turning into the worries of many in Luinne Bheinn."

Speaking evenly to a venerable one-eyed reiver, Alosaka says, "I understand that difficulty, but we are just a few hundred yards from the largest city north of Solhaven. The docks in the Landing generate as much noise as this little settlement."

Missoni says, "But perhaps we can ask that they not hammer throught he night."

Speaking to Missoni, Perigourd says, "Construction is typically temporary."

Speaking to a venerable one-eyed reiver, Thrassus says, "Unfortunately construction is rather noisy."

Tikba murmurs, "It is hard to know how long the construction will last, given how much they intend to build."

Speaking to a venerable one-eyed reiver, Dendum says, ""Tell the Reivers more come and more noise will be made."

Speaking to a venerable one-eyed reiver, Drazaa agrees, "It is quite a racket. I can hear it across great distances, especially in the quiet of night."

Alosaka evenly says, "We can ask them not to carry out any major construction during evening hours."

Speaking heartily to a venerable one-eyed reiver, Chamorr says, "Howdy."

Gutstorm drunkenly slurs, "Me got dib on him brotshord."

Speaking to Alosaka, Yardie asks, "You think they'll listen?"

A venerable one-eyed reiver asks, "Small lowlander speaks the truth? More outsiders come to these lands?"

Speaking to Gutstorm, Lylia says, "If I shared my full thoughts on that, I never hear the end of it."

Speaking to a venerable one-eyed reiver, Tikba says, "Many share your concerns. We are all doing what we can to keep the peace."

Speaking reassuringly to a venerable one-eyed reiver, Drazaa says, "I am glad you have shared this concern. Perhaps there is some compromise here or a want to build greater unity in this situation."

Guarrin asks, "What's all this then?"

Gutstorm drunkenly slurs, "It a sham."

Speaking to a venerable one-eyed reiver, Chandrellia says, "The Counsilors are doing their best at this time, please give them a chance to show they mean you well."

Cryheart says, "Reiver came to check out the noise of the camp."

Speaking diplomatically to Guarrin, Alosaka says, "The nosie from construction at the campsite is bothering some of our neighbors."

Speaking to a venerable one-eyed reiver, Perigourd says, "You should remind the clan that they themselves built an encampment right near this very spot when the tribe was displaced by Hagga."

A venerable one-eyed reiver says, "I've come to deliver the message from Luinne Bheinn. Tell these outsiders the reivers want them gone. They are not welcome beyond the river."

Tikba says, "We will remind them of their commitment to stay to this side of the river."

A kobold sniffs at Kiyna and exclaims, "I'se tinks ye smell like compost." The kobold smiles crookedly while day-dreaming about the odor of compost.

Speaking to Alosaka, Chandrellia says, "Just not so close to gether."

Speaking to Gutstorm, Nalver asks, "Did they learn from you or did you learn from them?"

A venerable one-eyed reiver says, "I don't want it to come to bloodshed. But I won't watch my kin fight, and will join them if that time comes."

Gutstorm drunkenly slurs, "Kobold funny."

Tiny smudges of soot mar the fieldstones used to create the grand fireplace in this cozy room. A collection of plaques hangs above an immense grey marble mantel cluttered with trophy cups and bowls. Fashioned from a single stone slab, the hearth extends to an impressive black bear rug with its maw frozen in a silent roar. Several overstuffed wingback chairs, each covered in deep jewel-tone chintz, are scattered about the room. Against the back wall, a tall glass-front curio houses several ancient mementos and a thrak hide curtain hangs nearby. A goblin archer runs by, throwing his bow to the ground and trying to scamper away. Suddenly, a jagged blue tomahawk comes spinning into view, taking the creature directly in the head and pinning him into a tree trunk, axe sunken through its face and into the bark. A tall, broad shoulder human almost saunters into view, with hazel eyes speckled with amber and boring into his victim. Blood already has splattered half of his face, almost entirely concealing a pink scar that splits his left eyebrow. He reaches into his scabbard, removes a silver tomahawk, and tears out the goblins throat for good measure. He rips his blue tomahawk free from the goblin's splintered face, letting the creature slump in death. The human raises his tomahawks and marches off into the forest.

A well maintained and healthy garden occupies the entirety of the courtyard. The air here is cool and crisp, but the bulk of the monastery shelters you from wind and makes the air bracing instead of chilling. In the center of the garden is a natural spring bubbling up several inches above the surface of the encircling pool of crystal clear water. A large stone and iron gate blocks the entrance to the monastery flanked by a statue of a woman carrying a crystal staff and a set of crystalline keys facing a second statue of a kneeling young man bedecked in battle-worn black chain armor. This is the heart of the main square of Wehnimer's Landing. The impromptu shops of the bazaar are clustered around this central gathering place, where townsfolk, travellers, and adventurers meet to talk, conspire or raise expeditions to the far-flung reaches of Elanith. At the north end, an old well, with moss-covered stones and a craggy roof, is shaded from the moonlight by a strong, robust tree. This is the heart of the main square of Wehnimer's Landing. The impromptu shops of the bazaar are clustered around this central gathering place, where townsfolk, travellers, and adventurers meet to talk, conspire or raise expeditions to the far-flung reaches of Elanith. At the north end, an old well, with moss-covered stones and a craggy roof, is shaded from the moonlight by a strong, robust tree. This corner of the square is lively and hectic even at night. Speaking to Pookia, Dendum says, ""Must stay."

Speaking to Archious, Pookia says, "I wouldnt mind to! i feel like we've been throwing insults and violence at him for weeks and well! thats doing a lot of good."
