Synopsis

A horn sounds, signaling the return of the Ember Vale reivers! Town guards begin to fire into the woods, then adventurers scatter throughout the environs to push back the Vale around and inside the Landing. Samfelt says the campsite is surrounded and soon begins to call for everyone to force the reivers between Darkstone and the Landing to flank them.

Warchief Haidan calls for his men to press to the Imperial camp and remind them there's no home for them here. The Elite Everblood-powered reivers mob North Gate while more ordinary ones--but in larger numbers--press against the camp. Haidan says the Landing continues to meddle in a war that isn't its own.

Just as the attack at North Gate is repelled, a golden speck of light appears on the horizon of Darkstone Bay, approaching the Dragonsclaw forest--it's Tyrrax's portals, as his krolvin take the field and charge the reivers! Although the adventurer group guarding North Gate is disclined to jump into the middle of the krolvin and reivers going at each other, town guards and Darkstonian archers begin to fire on both through the clash.

The North Gate gets nearly wiped out by a trio of consecutive Nature's Fury spells from the reivers; meanwhile, Samfelt says the camp is caught between krolvin and reivers.

While the battle continues, Tikba reports that Nairena has been taken from Town Square Central by spiders! She says she's in a shaman's tent. Meanwhile, the reivers' spiders take to the battlefield! Throughout ongoing skirmishes, Nairena says someone's bringing out a knife--someone's taking her flesh and blood, and takes her eye! She soon reports that Tyeid's turning her eye into a necklace and has said she tastes salty. Then he takes more of her! The battlefield begins to clear of combatants, but Tyeid's people cut Nairena's arm off and carry it away.

Efforts to find Nairena fail, but soon enough Kelfyr reports that she's been returned to North Gate. She's missing an eye, a hand, and an arm. Chandrellia heals her up and Nairena explains that she asked what Tyeid wanted, but he told her to shush, licked her face, and told her she was too salty--but she says she's very sweet! He cut out her eye, then her arm, which he gave to a grunt and told not to eat. Then he cut out her insides and she nearly passed out. He read blood on the ground, cut off her hand and started eating her fingers. She wishes she could remember more, but she was starting to black out. She says she warned him she'll reduce him to ash next time she sees him, and get her eye back.

Idle Chatter

[Town Square Central]

This is the heart of the main square of Wehnimer's Landing. The impromptu shops of the bazaar are clustered around this central gathering place, where townsfolk, travellers, and adventurers meet to talk, conspire or raise expeditions to the far-flung reaches of Elanith. At the north end, an old well, with moss-covered stones and a craggy roof, is shaded from the moonlight by a strong, robust tree. The oak is tall and straight, and it is apparent that the roots run deep. You also see the palm frond-shaped Leafiara disk, the Budroux disk, a feras hammer, the Ozmet disk, a large acorn, the skull-shaped Irval disk, a handful of white flower petals, the Ussey disk, an old well, some wide stone benches with some stuff on it, an herbal remedy donation bin and a round silver-banded barrel.

Vaemyr says, "That's good, and yeah there were a ton of people around earlier at the porch."

Vaemyr says, "Thought there might be something going on, but I dunno."

Vaemyr says, "And there's the ole invoker."

The sky begins to fill with huge clouds, dark and grey on the bottom, pale and white atop, their puffy crowns ascending toward the heavens.

A cool wind stirs through the area.

Markx says, "That's a... strange breeze."

[General] Coins thinks, "The easiest way to avoid that situation is to forsake all sentient contact."

[General] Leafiara amiably reports, "Another cool breeze in the Landing tonight."

Tikba just arrived.

A grieving wasteland spirit floats in, following Tikba.

Jovinia says, "Oh thank you."

Delyorik says, "Speech incoming."

Speaking to Jovinia, Delyorik says, "Welcome back. Don't die for five minutes. Tip your healer. Don't take strangers from candy."

Delyorik says, "Speech done."

Leafiara affably exclaims, "Cheer up, greving spirit, she might very well win!"

Speaking to Missoni, Perigourd says, "Mackerel biting tonight."

Speaking to Delyorik, Vaemyr says, "But candy gives the best strangers."

Nairena says, "Very true."

Nairena says, "Always a fun surprise."

Speaking amusedly to Leafiara, Tikba says, "The spirit is not political. She is merely remembering her home."

Speaking ruefully to Tikba, Leafiara says, "Ahhh."

Jaffrey says, "Candy gives the best of a lot of things."

Markx says, "Let's add to the mood."

Mirage-like distortions surround Markx as he prepares a spell...

Markx gestures.

A flare leaves Markx's hand and shoots up into the sky where it hangs for a few moments before exploding into blinding white lightning that briefly fractures the skies. The sheer brightness of the image before you lingers in your sight for several seconds after the explosion can no longer be seen.

A bright bolt of lightning streaks across the sky.

Leafiara enthuses, "The lightning's vibrant!"

Speaking uncertainly to himself, Perigourd says, "Hmm.."

Speaking to a flame-eyed burnished ember fox, Kiyna says, "You're not bothered by the rain, are you? Not gonna have a fun time in the Landing if so, friend."

Speaking to Zillin, Delyorik asks, "One favor?"

Speaking to Leafiara, Vaemyr says, "I think the reach might be affecting the weather a bit."

Speaking to Zillin, Delyorik says, "No bowing."

Delyorik says, "Cheers."

Speaking to Zillin, Jovinia asks, "Ready?"

Speaking to his silver hip flask, Delyorik says, "I really need to find a way to make you hold more."

Sandur heartily says, "Sorry, I was lost in repair."

Speaking to Delyorik, Nairena says, "Strap a keg to your back with a very long straw."

Nairena exclaims, "Ow!"

Speaking uncertainly to Perigourd, Tikba asks, "On a Vornavian sheep?"

Speaking to Tikba, Perigourd says, "Didn't have the heart to gut her."

Leafiara says, "Hmm."

Speaking to Tikba, Perigourd says, "No, a fish."

Jaffrey says, "Looks like reivers."

Kiyna asks, "...Reivers?"

Vaemyr says, "Reivers."

Vaemyr says, "Be prepared."

Leafiara recites:

"We might be in for combat, folks!"

Speaking to Perigourd, Tayler says, "How dare you hurt the Bresnahanini rolton."

Delyorik asks, "Why is it that you people always die when I'm trying to read?"

Kelfyr says, "Worth a trip to the Invoker for anyone who's not been yet."

Markx exclaims, "Honk honk!"

Nairena yells, "Bork!"

Leafiara says, "We're a... bit short handed at the moment. If they're attacking, they're wise to do it so soon after the Mist Harbor celebration."

Town guards from the north gate tower begin to fire arrows out into the woods.

Leafiara says, "Going to go see what's going on."

The darkness closes around you as you pass beneath the eaves of the forest, with little moonlight filtering through the canopy formed by the branches of the surrounding fir and pine. There is no discernible path between the closely grown trees and shrubs. You also see a sharp-eyed reiver hunter.

[General] Leafiara thinks, "They're already about."

[General] Kiyna exclaims, "Rooks! We have company! To the rooftops! Reivers incoming!"

Citizens, merchants and assorted dregs of society jostle against you before the great wooden gates of Wehnimer's Landing. Harried guards and militiamen try to keep the chaos to a minimum, but it is hard to keep track of those entering, let alone leaving, this large trading post. A dirt path encircling the wooden palisade of the town leads east and southwest. Nailed prominently to the wooden wall beside the gate is a sign you really should read. You also see a threaded pink pearl, an animated withered shadow-cloaked draugr, a mace, a reinforced shield, the Wayside inn and some reinforced wooden gates.

Leafiara says, "The camp is as well defended as we are."

The voice of Kelfyr says, "Just making sure you're safe to follow."

Nairena asks, "Really?"

Leafiara says, "Which isn't especially, at the moment."

Nairena asks, "Samfelt?"

[General] Irval thinks, "And I definitely do not like the look of that sky."

Kiyna says, "I'm not feeling particularly charitable towards Samfelt at this time."

Leafiara asks, "Is he trying to replace Sablo?"

Nairena says, "I heard he sings louder and sweeter than a song bird."

Leafiara says, "I don't have anything against Samfelt, but he's not some battlefield strategist."

[General] Irval exclaims, "Pincher tatics! Well thought Samfelt!"

Leafiara says, "Hmm."

[General] Leafiara asks, "How's the inside of town?"

[General] Platio asks, "What is attacking?"

Kiyna says, "Irval the Easily Impressed, though. He's on the ball."

Nairena says, "I tested their reaction to my bolts and most were able to not take a lot of damage."

Nairena says, "So they some big boys."

[General] Haidan thinks, "Press to the imperials camp. Bleed 'em, remind 'em. There is nae home fer 'em here."

Kiyna says, "Pokey is deadly."

Leafiara says, "Well, as long as they're pressing toward the camp and not us..."

This is the heart of the main square of Wehnimer's Landing. The impromptu shops of the bazaar are clustered around this central gathering place, where townsfolk, travellers, and adventurers meet to talk, conspire or raise expeditions to the far-flung reaches of Elanith. At the north end, an old well, with moss-covered stones and a craggy roof, is shaded from the moonlight by a strong, robust tree. The oak is tall and straight, and it is apparent that the roots run deep. You also see a gargantuan cloudy grey tiger, a dark-haired half-elven priestess, the Budroux disk, the Niffly disk, a moping badland spirit that is flying around, a large acorn, a large acorn, the Littlemelody disk, a sinuous bone white serpent that is sitting, a large acorn, a handful of white flower petals, the Ussey disk, an old well, some wide stone benches with some stuff on it, an herbal remedy donation bin and a round silver-banded barrel.

The heavy fragrance of the dark-orange flowers makes you feel light-headed and light-hearted. Speaking to Nairena, Chandrellia says, "Dont get me wrong, I would love to have a Nairena around my neck, but not like that."

Speaking to Chandrellia, Nairena says, "He liked my eye."

Speaking to Chandrellia, Nairena says, "I should be flattered."

Speaking to Nairena, Chandrellia says, "He wont like what we do to him."

Kiyna says, "Do we care what Samfelt is talking about? They're planning something over there."

Speaking to Kiyna, Leafiara says, "I sure don't."

Nairena says, "I warned him."

Nairena says, "I will reduce him to ash the next time I see him."

Dergoatean asks, "What is that Samfelt person on about?"

Nairena says, "And I will get my eye back."

Leafiara says, "At this rate I won't be surprised if Samfelt somehow rises to become the Commander and Baron."

Nairena says, "Ohh."

Speaking to Dergoatean, Chandrellia says, "Watch your back with him, he likes to turn on people that has given him trust."

Nairena exclaims, "I was Samfelted!"

Leafiara says, "He's doing more fighting than Sablo and more leading than Elidal."

Speaking to Dergoatean, Kiyna says, "He's a traitorous liar. He's lied to every single person he met so far."

Nairena says, "Heard some townfolks saying that."

Speaking to Nairena, Leafiara says, "You were kidnapped, not Samfelted... no one betrayed you."

Leafiara chuckles.

Speaking to Kiyna, Dergoatean says, "Well then I don't like him."

Chandrellia exclaims, "Let the girl dream!"

Nairena says, "Got it."

Kelfyr says, "An odd choice to be their emissary, admittedly."

Nairena amusedly says, "I just wanted to say it."

Nairena says, "I dont remember being taken."

Leafiara says, "Samfelt was caught for crimes in the Empire, lied about his name to try to get out of it, got conscripted onto a Navy ship, betrayed its pirate captain, got rescued by the Rooks, went to spy on the Barony for the Rooks, then betrayed the Rooks."

Nairena says, "It happened so fast."

Kelfyr says, "May be your mind protecting you from it."

Leafiara says, "That man's upward mobility is something to behold."

Kiyna says, "He lied to every individual at every step of that story."

Speaking to Leafiara, Mauss encourages, "Let's hire 'im!"

Kelfyr says, "In time, it may return."

Nairena nods slowly.

Leafiara says, "Somehow he's the emissary of a barony now."

Speaking to Leafiara, Chandrellia says, "He probly has something on teh Baron and will be taking his place next."

Leafiara says, "Somehow Elidal didn't even blink at him revealing that he's a Rook."

Nairena says, "I was still slightly angry due to dying."

Speaking to Chandrellia, Leafiara says, "That's what I just said."

Speaking to Leafiara, Chandrellia says, "Oh."

Leafiara says, "Elidal should watch his back if he's smart."

Leafiara says, "Honestly."

Nairena says, "When I feel that kind of anger.. it turn into the not so nice Nairena."

Leafiara says, "Or he'll get Samfelted too."

Nairena says, "I see red."

[General] Chandrellia thinks, "By the way, well done healers, and clerics and rescuers."

Speaking to Nairena, Kiyna says, "If you ever wanna see red, just come find me."

[General] Chandrellia thinks, "Awesome job defenders."

Speaking to Nairena, Kiyna says, "I'm covered in the stuff."

[General] Leafiara enthuses, "Everyone did a stellar job! So light on resources tonight, but we still fought everything off!"

Nairena grins at Kiyna.

Nairena exclaims, "Oh ha ha!"

Nairena glares at a floating crystal green eye.

[General] Samfelt thinks, "Together, we will survive this."

A floating crystal green eye suddenly floats up to a higher altitude where it begins to hover and look down on Nairena.

Speaking to a floating crystal green eye, Nairena says, "Nice floaty eye."

Leafiara says, "Well, I *was* just about to tell everyone about my guest contribution to the next Free North News, but Samfelt kind of ruined the moment."

Leafiara says, "Ah well, people will get to read it soon enough."

Speaking to Nairena, Dergoatean says, "Wondering if we can do that to your missing eye."

Speaking to Nairena, Dergoatean says, "And get it back to you."

[General] Chandrellia thinks, "Till you Samfelt someone."

A disembodied eye zips past you and heads straight for Dergoatean, who casually snatches it out of the air with a sticky splat sound. Without hesitation, Dergoatean pushes his elusive peeper back into his eye socket. With a few blinks it seems to function properly once again. Dergoatean wipes some icky residue from his face and carefully makes sure he is presentable again.

Dergoatean says, "Tada."

Speaking to Dergoatean, Nairena says, "I was an annoying prisoner."

Kelfyr says, "Gah."

Speaking to Nairena, Dergoatean says, "I would hope so."

Speaking encouragingly to Nairena, Leafiara exclaims, "I bet you are!"

Speaking to Dergoatean, Nairena says, "Made his torture not so fun."

Speaking to Dergoatean, Nairena says, "Maybe I sort of suggested keeping a token."

Nairena blushes a nice shade of light pink.

Nairena says, "Like. what are you going to do with that.. a token to remember me by."

Speaking to Leafiara, Nairena says, "He will take more."

Speaking to Nairena, Leafiara says, "Well, depends..."

Nairena seriously says, "You can believe that."

Leafiara says, "You're probably right."

Speaking to Nairena, Chandrellia asks, "Are we going to have to rope tie you to us?"

[General] Samfelt thinks, "I have no regrets about my actions. I know you, of all people in Wehnimer's Landing, know the value of saving innocent lives."

Nairena grins at Chandrellia.

Speaking to Nairena, Dergoatean asks, "You, eh, gave him to idea to keep the eye?"

Leafiara says, "But sometimes, on rare occasion, shamans and the like only need one sacrifice."

Speaking to Dergoatean, Nairena says, "I didnt think he was going to actually do it."

Nairena grins.

Speaking to Nairena, Dergoatean asks, "You'd rather he keep it?"

Nairena says, "He did."

Nairena says, "Its haging around his neck."

[General] Chandrellia thinks, "Yes Samfelt, innocent, but hey just curious whos gonna get Samfelted next? Sablo? The Baron to Be? oohh I know, maybe his father...."

[General] Irval thinks, "Chandrellia lacks common courtesy Samfelt. Disregard her words."

Nairena says, "Took my eye. My arm."

Leafiara says, "Fascinating..."

[General] Chandrellia thinks, "Yes thats why I saved your ass, twice."

Nairena says, "Made blood runes under us with my endtrails."

Leafiara says, "Okay, so your eye is almost surely the key piece if he's keeping it with him at all times."

Nairena says, "And munched on my hand he ripped from my arm."

Kelfyr asks, "Did you get any indication what their intent was?"

Kelfyr says, "The runes, I mean."

Nairena shakes her head.

Kiyna asks, "Irval accusing someone else of lacking common courtesy...?"

Nairena says, "Just that he was reading them and to be quiet."

Nairena says, "Then took my hand because he was getting hungry."

Kelfyr says, "He's trying to impress anyone who'll give him unwithering attention. Better to ignore his puckering."

Leafiara asks, "He needed to read runes that he himself drew?"

Mauss asks, "Attention can wither?"

Nairena asks, "You all know that reiver shaman?"

Nairena says, "Tyeid."

Mauss says, "Dumb question... course it can."

Leafiara says, "We've heard his name and encountered him a few times, yeah."

Nairena says, "I must have missed it."

Leafiara says, "He's been elusive."

Dergoatean says, "Well this was good exercise, certainly."

Speaking to Mauss, Kelfyr says, "Most attention he draws is scornful. He's a little deprived of adulation."

[General] Irval thinks, "No you just assumed I needed rescuing and didnt ask. You just do. But thats what you do Chandrellia, you just do you , damn everyone else."

[General] Nairena exclaims, "I hope my hand gives you heartburn, you jerk!"

Kiyna says, "My understanding is that Tyeid... diverged from the reiver faith. He was cast out for that. The reivers of the mountain do not speak of him or his name."

Kiyna says, "He may be the mastermind behind the Ember Vale. It is hard to say."

Leafiara says, "Yeah, Jock and Dikirk haven't liked us even mentioning him."

[General] Chandrellia thinks, "Oh sorry, I will give my word from here on out, it will never happen again, you can rot for all I care, have a great night."

Speaking to Leafiara, Mauss asks, "Is Leafi-Blob disbanded fer the evenin'?"

Speaking to Mauss, Leafiara says, "Seems so."

Leafiara says, "We were never much of a blob tonight anyway. I think we topped off at six."

[General] Irval exclaims, "Good night! Don't forget to pick up your feathers on the way out!"

Mauss exclaims, "I'll strive ta be more useful next time!"

Nairena says, "He must have been in a camp."

Leafiara says, "Too many people worn out from the Iyo festival, trial, or both."

Nairena says, "Or something."

Nairena says, "We were inside a tent."

Leafiara lightly says, "But the Rooks are always ready to go."

Kelfyr says, "It did come rather late in the evening."

Nairena says, "The smell of campfires."

Kelfyr says, "I think people assumed the threat was passed."

[General] Chandrellia thinks, "Oh my feathers are right where they should be, why did you get plucked a bit, oh and watch those arrows, you never know where they will come from."

Speaking to Nairena, Kiyna says, "I am tired. I'm going to find my bed. Are you alright? If you'd prefer to have company, I can wait."

Nairena says, "I know a camp when I smell it."

Nairena nods at Kiyna.

Mauss says, "Anyhoo, thinkin' I've earned my rest this eve, certainly."

Nairena says, "Im going right for a bath."

Nairena shudders.

Speaking amusedly to Mauss, Leafiara says, "See ya at Silverwood tomorrow."

Kiyna nods understandingly at Nairena.

Nairena says, "Reiver licked me."

Mauss says, "Night all! Don' eat no yellow snow."

Kelfyr says, "Have a good evening, all."

Speaking to Nairena, Chandrellia says, "Eewww."

Nairena hugs Chandrellia, who wraps her in a warm embrace.

Speaking to Nairena, Chandrellia says, "Still better then having Irval lick you tho."

[General] Irval thinks, "I'll be ready. I'll be watching. Someone always is. You might think you are in the right , but your presumptions will be your undoing."

Nairena exclaims, "Reiver juice on Chandy!"

Nairena hugs Chandrellia, who wraps her in a warm embrace.

Leafiara says, "I suppose I should call it an eve too."

Kiyna says, "Good night, all."

Chandrellia exclaims, "Ok off I go!"

Leafiara says, "Take care, all."
