Synopsis

Stars seem to disappear from the sky on the horizon, so Landing adventurers head to the docks for a closer look. A large ship appears on the bay, then several more ships, looking tattered and damaged. A flash of yellow-gold light appears and people realize it's probably Tyrrax, so they head to the Black Sands.

Tyrrax arrives through a portal and says he wishes an audience with the Landing's lady king and her disciples. Following a large scale eruption of a volcano on Glaoveln the night prior, Tyrrax has people in need. Some are upon Glaoveln and others have come to join him if they escaped the Iron Harpy, who he says is no Czag Pritz, but a corpse that has not yet fallen to the grave.

In short, Tyrrax's people will need homes and food, and he shall provide treasure. He doesn't trust the fur of the north (Icemule) nor the knights of the south (the Turamzzyrian Empire). A few people point out that Icemule did rescue many refugees from Glaoveln the night before at Mayor Talliver Dabbings' order; Tyrrax says he's thankful, but that's not trustful.

Envoy Tikba agrees to pass word along to Mayor Alendrial and the Town Council. Upon Kelfyr's inquiring, Tyrrax estimates somewhat over a hundred in need. He says many will stay at sea and calls it the krolvin people's true heart and home, but others are not built for it and he won't see them cast down. Tyrrax promises to meet again, then leaves; afterward, an Imperial runner delivers a note to Tikba that the prisoner exchange between the barony of Darkstone and the Ember Vale is set for next Leyan.

Idle Chatter

[Rusty Cutlass, Grub Hall]

Burnished wooden planks curve out to form the massive hall of the tavern's entrance, with rows of sturdy oaken posts rising to connect with a network of rafters above. Dozens of blackened oil lanterns hang from the ceiling, their light at times a haze behind wisps of smoke drifting in from the galley. In the center rests a huge cast-iron pot surrounded by countless tables and barrel chairs. A half-circle driftwood bar is nestled in the corner beneath a salt-stained crest. You also see an open archway leading to a wooden plank bridge, a wide wooden ramp and a large driftwood box.

A cool breeze stirs through the area.

[Town Square Central]

This is the heart of the main square of Wehnimer's Landing. The impromptu shops of the bazaar are clustered around this central gathering place, where townsfolk, travellers, and adventurers meet to talk, conspire or raise expeditions to the far-flung reaches of Elanith. At the north end, an old well, with moss-covered stones and a craggy roof, is shaded from the moonlight by a strong, robust tree. The oak is tall and straight, and it is apparent that the roots run deep. You also see a silver coin, a sturdy thanot box, a black-masked wolf, a gargantuan cloudy grey tiger, the Heod disk, the Grimsghost disk, the Disquiet disk, the seaweed-covered Nalbon disk, an animated falchion hovering in mid-air, a timber jaguar, the flaming Nairena disk, the alabaster Kialeigh disk with interlocking silver knotwork, the Ehlron disk, a rose-marrow potion, a triangle-shaped half of a buttery grilled cheese sandwich, a triangle-shaped half of a buttery grilled cheese sandwich, a bone-inlaid wooden sign that reads, "Bigger is Better. Vote for Irval!", a painted winged heart sign that reads, "Vote Saraphenia: For Love, For Wehnimer's!", a round silver-banded barrel, an herbal remedy donation bin, some wide stone benches with some stuff on it, an old well and a mistwood serving cart with some stuff on it.

Axanders says, "Someones I found on the trail after that golem thing the other night."

Axanders asks, "Road kill?"

Heod asks, "The golem?"

Heod asks, "The one at the lake?"

Axanders says, "I forget what it was..."

Heod says, "Cord..."

Heod says, "Korder....."

Heod says, "I forget too."

Axanders says, "I wasn't there for it...just walking around after it."

Speaking to Markx, Guennwhfar exclaims, "You da man!"

Nairena asks, "Whats the hurry?"

Guennwhfar exclaims, "Hurry hurry hurry!"

Markx says, "There is none."

Nairena says, "The bandits can wait for us for once."

Low thunder rumbles in the distance.

Guennwhfar exclaims, "They are impatient!"

Jaffrey says, "They get more frightened. It's good for them."

[General] Leafiara thinks, "Looks like some distant thunder near the Landing."

Nairena says, "I know."

Speaking to Leafiara, Pukk asks, "Stars?"

Nairena says, "They heard Guennypoo is joining us."

Speaking to Pukk, Leafiara exclaims, "The stars are behind those clouds somewhere!"

Nalbon says, "I will stay here and compose songs of your exploits and greatness."

[General] Kataric thinks, "Very low thunder, it didn't even come up to Irval's ankles."

Pukk says, "Those pesky rain clouds."

Jaffrey says, "Wait."

[General] Pukk thinks, "Looks like rain in Landing."

Upon the horizon of Darkstone Bay, a star in the sky bleeds out of existence.

Bernadette joins Leafiara's group.

Nairena says, "I hope that sweet, kind metal golem shows up."

Speaking to Bernadette, Pukk says, "Commander Bernadette."

Pukk says, "Okay."

Leafiara tentatively says, "Well, on second thought, maybe they aren't."

Ithilwyn softly asks, "Um....I think a star just...died?"

Pukk recites:

"Everybody join Leafiara, Bernadette has decided!"

Kataric says, "Bleeding stars... low thunder.... Pukk. Man this is looking like a bad thing."

Pukk exclaims, "Hey!"

Jaffrey says, "Just a touch."

Speaking to himself, Pukk mutters, "Well, he's not wrong..."

Speaking to Guennwhfar, Nairena says, "Mine are way better."

A second star melts away, then a third, as the sky blackens like a veil of churning shadows upon the edge where the heavens meet the waters.

Leafiara optimistically says, "What's the worst that could happ--"

Nalbon says, "The death of a star is no little thing."

Jaffrey says, "Let's go."

Leafiara slowly says, "Alright, fine, let's go investigate at the docks."

Speaking to Leafiara, Pukk says, "I love you."

Ithilwyn softly says, "I think....this is....something else."

Kataric says, "Ut oh, the sky is falling."

Leafiara recites:

"Moving to the north dock, will send a thought if anything seems amiss!"

[Wehnimer's, North Dock]

The dock's planks are dull and weathered from the salt spray of many seasons. Northward beyond the massive sea gates, a flock of ice geese passes, silhouetted against the sky over the waters of Darkstone Bay. The hulk of a derelict coastal sailer is tethered to the end of the pier. You also see a square ghostwood sign that reads, "Champion of Neutrality: Tayler, A Voice for All!", a huge grey imperial warship, a rope-lined wooden plank bridge that leads to the archway of a large moored white-masted ship, a wide ramp, a stack of empty crates and a portly portmaster.

[General] Pukk thinks, "It's just a small storm. Nothing to worry about."

Leafiara optimistically exclaims, "Well, we're not dead yet!"

Pukk says, "That is always a plus for me."

Approaching Ships

Illuminated only by a sliver of moonlight and the occassional flash of lightning, a large ship appears rising and falling upon the waters of Darkstone Bay.

Bernadette softly says, "True."

[General] Jehance thinks, "Oh wow, these Kiramon are squishy."

Pukk says, "Uh oh."

Pukk says, "Krolvin."

[General] Rasson thinks, "Hopfully a smaller storm than last nightassess."

[General] Leafiara thinks, "Looks like we have a visitor arriving by sea in the Landing... hard to tell what at this distance, though."

[General] Guennwhfar thinks, "Also kiramon are great for gem bounties; they only drop gems."

Leafiara curiously says, "Maybe."

[General] Pukk exclaims, "Looks like a ship and that can mean only 1 thing. Krolvins!"

Leafiara says, "If it's krolvin, they're more likely to approach the Sands, but if anyone else, more likely to come here..."

Pukk says, "Oh yeah."

[General] Guennwhfar exclaims, "I ship me and Nairena!"

Leafiara says, "But it's hard to tell which way they're going."

Pukk says, "At least we have a Gryphon here."

[General] Leafiara thinks, "We have eyes at north dock, but if the ship heads for the Black Sands or elsewhere instead, we'll divert."

Pukk says, "Commander Bernadette the deforester."

Several more ships appear along the first, of various sizes, and the moonlight brightens some of their tattered masts and damaged hulls.

Dominikov curiously says, "Think it's safe to -- Ooohhh, dear."

[General] Leafiara slowly thinks, "Plenty more ships on their way, it seems."

Leafiara says, "You know, it actually could be krolvin. Maybe seeking refuge after the volcano erupted on Glaoveln."

A fleck of yellow-gold light appears near the railing of one of the ships.

[General] Pukk thinks, "Oh good. They brought freinds."

A muscular red-armored hiresword searches around nervously.

Leafiara relents, "Or, sure, it could be Tyrrax."

Pukk exclaims, "Aha! Raelee!"

Speaking to Raelee, Dominikov says, "Pity luck there."

Raelee folds her arms over her chest.

Pukk says, "Good thing that hiresword found her."

Raelee flatly says, "Pukk."

Pukk says, "I didn't know she was lost."

[General] Leafiara asks, "Looking likely to be Tyrrax, though the ships seem damaged. He might be escorting from Glaoveln?"

[General] Kataric thinks, "The ships are damaged, doesn't seem like a raiding party. You don't go to war with a battered fleet."

Speaking to a muscular red-armored hiresword, Pukk says, "Good job finding Raelee."

Leafiara says, "I guess if it really is Tyrrax, he's probably going to the sands and we should too."

[General] Kataric asks, "Maybe they just want to borrow some wood?"

[General] Geijon asks, "Where th' ships coming in?"

Leafiara says, "Moving that way."

[General] Goldstr thinks, "Folks! Think of givin Aide before fitin! May be Krol refugees."

[The Black Sands]

A narrow strip of black sand winds between the pulsing sea and the huddled rocks. You look out at the dark waters of the bay, set against the grey sky. With the black sands beneath your feet and the frozen black lava behind you, you feel as though all the color has been blotted out of the world. You also see the seaweed-covered Nalbon disk, a tall wooden archery tower and the waters of Darkstone Bay.

[General] Pukk exclaims, "We have the best group leader in the world, Leafiara!"

A fleck of golden light drifts in off the bay. It begins to churn and widen....

[General] Aerocus thinks, "Helga is normally in her tavern."

[General] Directed to Goldstr, Dwi asks, "So...hand em a cookie den choppem up?"

[General] Leafiara thinks, "Yep, the golden lights definitely seem like Tyrrax's. We're gathering at the sands."

Geijon says, "That was his mark."

Gibtrel says, "I dont be seein' nothin'."

[General] Aerocus thinks, "Report from the fishing dock, no ships, or bites."

Tyrrax's Intent

The golden light spins into a spherical portal, flickering as a short krolvin with silken indigo hair steps through from the other side, soot staining the deep blue jacket around his robust frame.

Pukk says, "Yep."

Leafiara amiably greets, "Good eve!"

[General] Leafiara thinks, "Tyrrax is here at the Black Sands."

Geijon says, "Mmm."

Speaking to Tyrrax, Pukk says, "I'm sorry but Pookia isn't here at the moment."

Tyrrax shrugs at Pukk.

Tyrrax says, "More pressing matters are at hand."

Leafiara inquires, "What brings you here, then?"

Speaking to Tyrrax, Pukk says, "You know, she is the one who loves your squid rings."

Speaking to Tyrrax, Geijon says, "Warbringer."

Tyrrax says, "I wish an audience with your lady king and her disciples."

Pukk says, "Lady king...."

Leafiara says, "Well, the town is about to select new disciples by next week..."

Speaking to Leafiara, Pukk asks, "You know I'm going to have to start using that now right?"

[General] Aerocus thinks, "Where is this sands I keep hearin about."

Tyrrax asks, "New disciples?"

Tyrrax sighs.

Leafiara says, "In fact, here's one person who might be among them."

Leafiara points at Tayler.

Speaking to Tyrrax, Pukk says, "You always give me the best material to work with."

Tyrrax says, "That is right..."

Leafiara nods at Tyrrax.

Tyrrax says, "Your frontier politics."

Tayler exclaims, "Not guilty!"

Geijon says, "Elected, not strength-based, leaders by vote."

Speaking to Tayler, Leafiara explains, "He wants a meeting with our lady king and her disciples."

Speaking to Tyrrax, Geijon says, "Yearly."

Speaking to Leafiara, Tayler says, "Ahhh."

Tyrrax asks, "Strength-based?"

Tyrrax peers quizzically at Geijon.

Leafiara says, "Or lady queen."

Tyrrax barks with laughter.

Speaking quietly to Leafiara, Tayler says, "Does he know about..."

Tayler glances northwest. [OOC note: Leafi misinterprets here, but Tayler was getting at the volcanic eruption on Glaoveln, which had been a part of the Icemule story the night prior.]

Leafiara says, "Well, he did say lady king, but, I mean--"

Leafiara relents, "Oh, never mind."

Tyrrax says, "Yes."

Tyrrax nods at Tayler.

Tayler nods at Tyrrax.

Speaking to Tayler, Leafiara says, "I just told him."

Tyrrax brushes soot from his jacket.

Tayler says, "It was..."

Tayler says, "Violent."

Tayler nods.

Tikba just arrived.

Speaking to Tyrrax, Geijon says, "Not a timely debate for you or a good one optics wise for any of us."

Tyrrax says, "Catastrophic."

Tayler nods at Tyrrax.

Leafiara says, "Kayse and Vaemyr might remain disciples, though. If they do, half the group would be familiar."

Tyrrax says, "Fire has forged the path of my kin for ten fold thousand years."

Tyrrax nods at Geijon.

Pukk says, "I feel somebody watching us."

Tyrrax says, "Ah, a disciple."

Tyrrax nods at Tikba.

Speaking to Tyrrax, Geijon says, "And sometimes events force us all to reconsider and change."

Tikba nods slowly at Tyrrax.

Leafiara says, "Well... she's a type of disciple with different duties than the current election, but yes."

Tyrrax says, "I am in need."

Tyrrax asks, "You are confused?"

Speaking politely to Tyrrax, Tikba asks, "How can we help, Czag Pritz?"

Tyrrax peers quizzically at Leafiara.

Tikba uncertainly says, "I am a disciple of Marlu, to be sure."

Tyrrax says, "I will need homes."

Leafiara tentatively says, "Well... maybe. It depends which disciples you're trying to meet."

Tikba nods slowly at Tyrrax.

Leafiara says, "Ah, because of the eruption on Glaoveln..."

Tikba asks, "Do you have many in need?"

Tyrrax says, "Yes. More upon Glaoveln, may not retrieve them. Many have come to join me."

Tikba carefully says, "The eruption was terrible to behold."

Tyrrax says, "If they have escaped the Iron Harpy."

Pukk says, "Aha. Xorus is here. He can help you with your needs."

[General] Nairena asks, "Rumble at the black sands?"

Speaking to Tyrrax, Tayler says, "Why should we? You violated our agreement, the reason for your current freedom. You were not supposed to return until it was time to handle Stone."

Speaking carefully to Tyrrax, Tikba asks, "Ah. Who is the Iron Harpy? The other Czag Pritz?"

Pukk says, "Krolvins have a special place in his heart."

[General] Leafiara thinks, "No, we're just talking about the situation with Glaoveln."

Speaking to Tyrrax, Geijon asks, "Shall we head into town?"

Nalbon says, "Being a castaway is a terrifying experience, especially at the start."

Geijon moves over to Tyrrax and stands ready to protect him from attack.

Geijon sighs.

Tyrrax says, "She is no Czag Pritz. She may wish to be. They all wish to be."

Tikba nods understandingly at Tyrrax.

Tyrrax says, "She is but a corpse that has not yet fallen to the grave."

Tyrrax peers quizzically at Tayler.

Tyrrax says, "My kin attacked the reivers. Not your town. If out..."

Tyrrax asks, "Outlines? Outliners?"

Tyrrax ponders.

Leafiara helpfully says, "Outliers."

Tyrrax nods at Leafiara.

Leafiara nods encouragingly.

Tyrrax says, "If outliers, then I trust they are dirt at your hands."

Tikba neutrally says, "Yes, I fear they were killed."

Leafiara simply agrees, "They definitely are."

Tyrrax says, "Do not fear. They chose it."

Tyrrax nods at Tikba.

Tikba nods understandingly at Tyrrax.

Speaking quietly to his glass fishbowl, Dominikov demands, "Hush, you."

Tikba carefully says, "I am sure the Landing will hear your request for aid. I will be happy to carry it to the council and the mayor."

Speaking to Tyrrax, Geijon says, "You have us in many quandries and reflective circumstances, but To aid those in need, is one of my Orders oath perimeters. You will be safe as I live, at least, tonight."

Tyrrax nods at Geijon.

Tyrrax says, "We will need homes. Food. I shall provide treasure."

Tikba diplomatically says, "Wehnimer's Landing is a free city, made up of those who sought to travel to it."

Tyrrax says, "I do not trust the fur of the north, or the knights of the south."

Speaking to Tyrrax, Geijon says, "You will need acceptance."

Leafiara hopefully says, "This sounds like it might be a good opportunity for both sides to win."

Speaking to Tyrrax, Tayler asks, "Will I find any remants of any of my merchant ships that were recently, and surprisingly, sunk, amongst that treasure?"

Kelfyr says, "The fur of the north rescued a number of your people, and opened their doors to them."

Geijon says, "Town then? I expect others would join."

Tikba says, "Yes, there are other refugees in the north, led there by Talliver Dabbings."

Tyrrax says, "It is good that they aided. I am thankful."

Tyrrax says, "Thankful is not trustful."

Tayler says, "Fifty or so, though many remained locked up in Glaoveln itself, refusing to leave."

Kelfyr says, "Trust is not built through one action, but many."

Tikba carefully says, "I appreciate that you prefer our hospitality to theirs."

Dominikov quietly adds, "Wehnimer's a melting pot of outcasts, I'd be shocked if anyone was denied safety..."

Leafiara says, "Several here were among those who helped lead the refugees to Icemule."

Speaking to Tikba, Pukk says, "Yep, you are a good envoy."

Speaking to Tyrrax, Geijon says, "Curiously, I doubt we'd take advantage other than th' resources of where your people may settle."

Speaking to Nalbon, Aerocus says, "The stars are hidden."

Nalbon says, "Im right here."

A black-masked wolf asks, "Do they have any donuts for resources?"

Speaking to Leafiara, Geijon asks, "Can we take him into town?"

Tikba diplomatically says, "There may be some difficulty settling outside the city just now."

Speaking tentatively to Geijon, Leafiara says, "Mmm... I would say it's up to him, but honestly, I don't know what Alendrial would think."

Tyrrax asks, "You will send words to your lady king and council of disciples and envoys?"

Tikba says, "Queen."

Tikba says, "That is, Mayor."

Tyrrax says, "Your queen that is mayor."

Tyrrax nods.

Pukk says, "No, no, no. Lady King sounds so much better."

Tikba looks thoughtful for a moment, then shrugs.

Tikba says, "I will inform Mayor Alendrial and the Council at once."

Tikba nods firmly at Tyrrax.

Tyrrax nods.

Tayler says, "I am sure aid can be arranged. However I suspect you may not be happy with the terms, we do not allow slaves, here."

Speaking to Leafiara, Pukk says, "If we are going to town I will announce to the Rooks that this is peaceful."

Speaking curiously to Pukk, Leafiara says, "I'm pretty sure, going by the lack of us perched on the roofs, that everyone else already knows."

Tyrrax says, "We are all slaves to something."

Pukk says, "Good thinking."

Aerocus quietly says, "Tides are turning."

Speaking to Aerocus, Leafiara agrees, "Always."

Tikba evenly says, "I would say we are all free."

Pukk whispers something to Leafiara.

Tayler says, "We are all free, except those of us that wear chains and are not."

Refugee Count

Kelfyr asks, "What number of your people will need housing?"

Speaking to Leafiara, Sraven asks, "Whats going on?"

Tyrrax says, "I will have count soon."

Tikba evenly says, "Even in chains, we are free."

Tyrrax says, "More are at sea. I am finding some."

Tyrrax indicates a series of eight rune-etched golden rings as a possible option.

Speaking to Tyrrax, Geijon says, "This seems urgent. Perhaps Alendriel will have to come here to th' sands."

Speaking to Sraven, Leafiara says, "Tyrrax here is requesting a deal to trade his treasures for some housing for his people whose homes were made uninhabitable by the eruption on Glaoveln."

Kelfyr says, "The count will impact the methods by which they may be aided."

Speaking to Tyrrax, Sraven asks, "How can we help find them?"

Tyrrax asks, "I can give, rough?"

Tayler asks, "Hundreds? Thousands?"

Tyrrax looks over at Tayler and shakes his head.

Tayler asks, "Dozens?"

Tyrrax says, "Many will stay at sea, that is our true heart and home."

[General] Jehance asks, "What's a corked crystalline globe for?"

Qistra exclaims, "Me kin build houses!"

Tikba carefully says, "I must warn you that this spot may not be safe, as Sir Geijon suggests. Our meetings have had unwelcome visitors before."

Kelfyr says, "Even ships need safe ports."

[General] Aerocus thinks, "Alchelmy."

Tyrrax says, "Hundred, over some."

[General] Jehance thinks, "Ah, thanks."

[General] Jaffrey thinks, "Ships."

Tayler says, "That should not be particularly difficult to arrange."

Speaking to Tyrrax, Sraven says, "Im so saddened by the news."

Speaking to Tyrrax, Geijon says, "We do not need th' promise of treasure to help people in need."

Leafiara says, "Not necessarily too difficult, then."

Bernadette softly says, "I kin hep cut logs."

[General] Aerocus thinks, "And if you hang it from a string and spin it while a bard plays music, can be meszmurizing."

Speaking to Bernadette, Tayler asks, "Axes to plowshares?"

Pukk says, "She does it all."
