Summary

 • Continued blight strikes the Landing, as a bloated deer corpse and withered grass are found nearby the gates. Marshal Thadston and Casiphia come along and Thadston asks the militia captains to hear the news and why it's only coming to him now. Captain Stormyrain says maybe he's been too distracted to hear discussion of the blight in the barracks. Captain Shinann apologizes for the lack of a report.
 • Ysharra says she hopes to examine the deer to see if she can find common elements between that and her garden (implying it too was struck with the blight). Thadston says he doesn't weep for a garden, but to let him know if she finds out anything related.
 • The group heads off to inspect the blight, though not before the odor of rotting fish drifts through the streets. Besides the deer corpse, Casiphia breaks away and finds a gak corpse elsewhere; Thadston has her get new recruits to gather both corpses and keep them on ice.
 • Thadston asks the captains for other news and thoughts about the bleakstone statue. Mayor Lylia says she didn't ask for it or commission it, and Thadston confirms with her and Shinann that Alendrial DeArchon permitted it in town. Stormy reports on Disean's appearance, the fish, the crop rot, and the appearance of Cayde. Balley and Sir Cryheart also bring up the scarabs imbedded in people like Balley and Bernadette.
 • Thadston asks Magister Raelee if she has any more glass coffins; she says she could arrange to have one transported. Cruxophim asks if he plans to put Raznel in one, but he says no, they'll murder her--there's no containing her. Stormy, Raelee, and Elphieya ask what his plan is, but he says not to worry about it and that he can't share his plan in the open with witch supporters. Raelee says they can discuss it later; he says to get it first; she says she'll work with him but doesn't work for him.
 • A militia member brings up unrest and angry people at the docks, so the group heads back to see. Dockworkers and fishermen argue, with the dockworkers telling the fishermen they're land boun because they'll only pull in rot. Thadston says he doesn't have time for this and tells the captains to arrest the people if they get out of control, only prompting even more anger.
 • Things escalate until a dockworker takes a swing and fists and weapons begin flying. The crowd doesn't retaliate, but although Stormy and Lylia call for militia and the town guard (respectively) to arrest, they don't arrive--and although Leafiara, Chaoswynd, and Ysharra try to sanct and calm the rioters, nothing can stop the battle. Others like Cryheart intervene by disarming or using the Symbol of Sleep, slowing the ruckus down, but...
 • Soon familiar clicking sounds signal the return of oily black serpents, sending the civilians running. As Landing defenders protect the docks, reports of worms attacking the town square come in.
 • In the midst of it, Raznel's heard on the amunet posing as Thadston's dead wife Saraphene, saying she can help him with his growing wound and will forgive him for "that other one," as will their son. Ashen-hued mist seeps across the ground and eventually takes shape into hulking trolls. The battle rages as "Saraphene" continues tempting, saying she and Disean are waiting and that his heart breaks. Shinann and Lylia tell Thadston not to listen.
 • As town defenders eventually destroy the trolls, Casiphia returns and Leafi asks to please tell her Thadston didn't go to pursue. Casiphia she saw to it that Thadston's asleep. Thrassus raises the question of what if Raznel finds him, but she says she won't. Dame Evia asks if she's alright and Lylia asks if putting Thadston to sleep has played out often; Casiphia says they have "a system in place" and that she's been training a lot for this battle.
 • Casiphia says what they have next is their best move so far, but she worries for Pylasar and Thadton's beside himself. She says he needed the drink--a concoction from Mestanir. She says she knows Raelee and Thadston don't get along well and says if she won't get a coffin for his sake, then it's also important to her. Thrassus asks if he intends to put people with scarabs in them and she says no.

Highlights

Thadston says, "Let's see this grass and deer."
The odor of rotting fish drifts through the streets of town, causing some nearby townspeople to turn and gag nearby.
Leafiara muses, "Or maybe the docks are more urgent."
Thadston says, "If we chased every horrible smell we'd have run the Ta'Mori out of town eleven years ago."
Pukk quietly exclaims, "Rolton invasion!"
Pukk quietly says, "They are all Baaaaaaaaad."
A fisherman says, "Dockworker? I've seen the way you watch me....more like a...." The crowd then bursts into a frenzy, the dockworker slamming a fist into the face of the fisherman. From there, the crowd erupts, fisherman and dockworkers swinging fists and weapons left and right, and soon their frenzy begins to be targeted to all gathered, as if they are enraptured.
Hapenlok says, "Anyone hurts these people, I'll kill 'em. That's not an idle threat."
Speaking sweetly to Hapenlok, Shiril asks, "You'd hurt me?"
Speaking to Shiril, Hapenlok says, "I've got more in common with these fellows on the docks than I do the most of you."
Speaking amusedly to Hapenlok, Shiril says, "I'll say."
Leafiara says, "At least their martial forms aren't nearly as good as that time Chaston took control of our blacksmiths. Now -they- were dangerous with their hammers..."
Speaking to Leafiara, Hapenlok says, "Yet, they they're wearing armor and carrying shields...on the docks."
Speaking to Leafiara, Hapenlok says, "That says everything you need to know, right there."
Speaking curiously to Hapenlok, Leafiara asks, "Wouldn't you, with the recent serpent attacks?"
Speaking to Leafiara, Hapenlok says, "Point taken."
The ghostly voice of Lazaryth says, "Now I've gone and done it."
Speaking to Lazaryth, Ysharra asks, "I told you to skedaddle, didn't I?"
The ghostly voice of Lazaryth says, "The company was too charming to leave."
A young boy runs in yelling "Over here! I saw the watchman's body over here!"
A couple of tired looking monks hurry in appearing a bit winded. Upon finding the watchman's body, they exchange an odd glance, but the boy sees their resigned expressions and exclaims, "Please, oh please you must try and help this poor watchman!" The monks nod calmly to the boy, carefully pick up the body and carry it away.
Saraphene: "Come dear, I'll forgive you for that other one. She will be but a memory. I am sure our son will forgive you too."
Shinann: "Thadston, do not go to her."
Shinann says, "Like that is going to help."
Speaking dubiously to Shinann, Leafiara says, "He can't be -that- dumb."
Leafiara slowly asks, "...can he?"
Stormyrain can offer Leafiara only a blank expression.
Jiarine says, "Men are stupid. This should be common knowledge."
Speaking flatly to Shiril, Leafiara says, "I hope he's not that dumb. Truly."
Speaking lightly to Leafiara, Shiril says, "Hope is a funny thing."
The ashen mist thickens, hugging the ground and obscuring the cobblestones of many streets of town. Some nearby citizens run into their homes or shops, just as a large hulking form rises up out of the mist and rushes off into the night.
Shinann asks, "What was that?"
Another hulking form rises in the distance, obscured by the fog and night, and rushes off.
Jiarine says, "Oh the usual. Terrors in the night, screaming children, murder."
Nearby, out of the fog that swirls about the ground outside of a shop, the hulking form of a grey bleak troll rises into view and snatches up a running townsperson in its massive claws. The troll snaps the citizen in half before taking a giant chunk out of his chest with its massive, toothy maw. The troll almost howls, eyes glowing and teeth covered in blood, and it rushes off down a street.
Cruxophim: "Well, Trolls, one... Townspeople, zero."
Pietra: "I think it's minus one townspeople."
Zosopage says, "They are not undead so can use a more powerful weapon."
Evia says, "Not undead..yet, give them a day."
Cruxophim erases a message from a bone-framed bulletin board.
Cruxophim calmly warns, "The next person to deface the board I will find, and I will violate, and I will kill... and if I'm feeling generous, I'll do it in that order."

Oh Deer

[Town Square Central]

This is the heart of the main square of Wehnimer's Landing. The impromptu shops of the bazaar are clustered around this central gathering place, where townsfolk, travellers, and adventurers meet to talk, conspire or raise expeditions to the far-flung reaches of Elanith. At the north end, an old well, with moss-covered stones and a craggy roof, is shaded from the moonlight by a strong, robust tree. The oak is tall and straight, and it is apparent that the roots run deep. You also see some stone benches with some stuff on it and an herbal remedy donation bin.

Also here: Zosopage, Thissulliuss, Timoen, Razanetika, Event Planner Leafiara, Tolan, Corlamaer, Cyrice, Giocoso, Yllva, Lord Mjolek who is sitting, Grel, Stormyrain, Chaoswynd, Gypsy Scribe Balley, Nyme, Sir Cryheart, Bernadette, Diamondelille who is sitting, Lirica who is sitting

The sky begins to fill with huge clouds, dark and grey on the bottom, pale and white atop, their puffy crowns ascending toward the heavens.

Thadston: "Eve."

Cryheart says, "Lord Thadston on net."

Leafiara: "You: "Evenin'!"

Zosopage: "Evening, Thadston."

Speaking quietly to Leafiara, Elphieya says, "I have to confess, I don't do the waiting part very well."

Leafiara says, "Well, at least he didn't run off after all."

Shinann: "Evening, Thadston."

Lylia: "Yes, good evening to you as well. Although it is not starting off well."

Thadston: "Oh?"

Casiphia: "We'll be along shortly."

Lylia: "More examples of the blight."

Leafiara curiously says, "Casiphia? Wonder what she wants to say..."

Pukk: "Hi there Thad!"

Thadston: "I'll be outside of Moot Hall shortly to hear of it."

Cryheart says, "Moving to Moot."

[Town Square, East] Here in the center of a broad plaza near the commercial area of the bazaar stands the impressive facade of the slate-roofed Moot Hall, where the citizens of Wehnimer's Landing hold various official, religious and social functions. Facing the square are some of the town's more prosperous shops, still doing business with the many customers who still frequent the streets at night. You also see a polished bleakstone statue, a bone-framed bulletin board and a large purple wooden barrel.

Also here: Magister Raelee, Ysharra, Lazaryth, Hapenlok, Mayor Lylia, Xorus, Avalera, Lord Thrassus, Lord Chamorr, Shinann, Razanetika, Lord Neelin, Sir Ruffelin, High Lady Lauranathalasa, Elphieya, Event Planner Leafiara, Sofal, Kipara, Berost, Zosopage, Stormyrain, Chaoswynd, Gypsy Scribe Balley, Bernadette, Diamondelille, Pukk, Sir Cryheart, Rhayveign, Relic Hunter Madmountan

Lylia: "I shall be there directly."

Bernadette: "Good eve Lord Thadston."

Speaking quietly to a polished bleakstone statue, Pukk exclaims, "Hiya Mayor!"

Cryheart yells, "Lord Thadston meeting outside of Moot soon!"

Speaking deeply to Pukk, Berost says, "Don't encourage her."

Speaking quietly to a polished bleakstone statue, Pukk exclaims, "Oh....it's you...the fake mayor!"

Chamorr heartily asks, "Did ya see the abandoned wagon?"

Speaking curiously to Chamorr, Leafiara asks, "Where?"

Chamorr heartily says, "On the trail to mule."

Speaking quietly to Chamorr, Elphieya asks, "Did you check it out?"

Speaking curiously to Chamorr, Leafiara asks, "How far on the way there?"

Cryheart says, "There is a bloated corpse and withered grass just southwest of the North gate."

Chamorr heartily says, "I did, couldn't tell much."

Zosopage says, "Where abouts? I usually fly there so don't see it."

Bernadette softly says, "Aye."

Speaking quietly to Cryheart, Elphieya says, "That doesn't sound promising."

Chamorr heartily says, "Just passed the rugged trail."

Hapenlok says, "Fair enough."

Lord Thadston's group just arrived.

Lylia says, "Good evening."

A tiny angular lilac-point kitten says, "Stop touching me like that. I don't like it."

Thadston nods.

Leafiara amicably greets, "Good eve, you two!"

Balley softly says, "Hello Thadston."

Casiphia waves.

Thadston says, "Eve."

Chamorr heartily says, "Maybe one of the bleakstone wagons."

Cryheart says, "Good evening."

Thadston clenches his jaw.

Speaking quietly to Lylia, Pukk asks, "Real mayor?"

Thadston asks, "What news of more blight?"

Speaking to Pukk, Lylia says, "The real one, yes."

Thadston asks, "And why am I only hearing of this now?"

Pukk quietly says, "Good."

Thadston peers quizzically at Shinann.

Thadston peers quizzically at Stormyrain.

Cryheart says, "Bloated deer corpse just outside of the North gate..and withered grass."

Leafiara says, "Some withered grass and a dead near near west gate, but..."

Speaking to Thadston, Lylia says, "Just beyond the West Gate. And you are hearing of it as soon as I have."

Shinann asks, "Hearing of what?"

Speaking to Thadston, Ysharra says, "There's a dead deer just outside the gate, and a patch of withered grass, white as bone."

Casiphia whispers something to Thadston.

Pukk quietly says, "I tried poking the deer...but it wouldn't budge."

Balley softly says, "That does not sound good."

Chamorr heartily says, "It's that dang bleakstone stuff."

Speaking to Thadston, Ysharra says, "My plantings..."

Speaking evenly to Thadston, Stormyrain says, "I do apologize, Lord Thadston. Mayhaps you've been a bit too distracted as of late, for I am quite certain the discussion of the blight has been quite pervasive in the barracks."

Thadston peers quizzically at Ysharra.

Speaking to Thadston, Ysharra says, "I am hoping to do some examinations of the deer and my garden. See if I can find any common elements."

Thadston says, "You'll forgive me if I don't weep for a garden. But do let me know what you find out about anything related."

Thadston nods at Ysharra.

Speaking to Shinann, Stormyrain says, "I mean we discussed Disean's appearance and the blight quite significantly over multiple nights."

Speaking heartily to Thadston, Chamorr says, "And an abandoned wagon."

Speaking to Ysharra, Zosopage says, "Better grab it before Crux does."

Lylia counters, "It is all related."

Thadston glances at Stormyrain.

Speaking to Thadston, Ysharra says, "I don't expect you to weep at all."

The voice of Gryzzlbok says, "Oooh, a horse."

Balley softly says, "Do not remind me of that boy."

Thadston says, "Let's see this grass and deer."

Lylia says, "Follow me, then."

Speaking to Thadston, Shinann says, "I am sorry you did not get a report."

Cryheart says, "Join Lylia."

Thadston joins Lylia's group.

Leafiara politely says, "Really, if you haven't heard about the blight that's been going on then... you must have been doing nothing but training."

Casiphia joins Lylia's group.

Pukk recites quietly:

"Join Lylia!"

[joining]

Bristenn dryly ventures, "Going for a bit of a jaunt, then?"

Shinann says, "I mean, it is everywhere."

Speaking to Bristenn, Lylia says, "Yes."

Speaking to Pukk, Zosopage says, "Too late."

Cryheart says, "Just outside the North gate."

Thadston says, "I've heard of the farms and fish."

Pukk quietly says, "I feel better."

[Merchant]-GSIV:Gorvalt: "his pin crumbles the helm dont"

Speaking to Bristenn, Leafiara says, "Not a far one, though."

Thadston says, "I wasn't aware of further changes."

Cryheart says, "And southwest of the gate."

Leafiara nods understandingly at Thadston.

Bristenn grouses, "I suppose."

Speaking to Thadston, Shinann says, "I do apologize."

The odor of rotting fish drifts through the streets of town, causing some nearby townspeople to turn and gag nearby.

Elphieya quietly says, "Oh no."

Lylia says, "Wild creatures seem to be afflicted too, and the soil, if that grass is any indication. Though which came first, it is hard to say."

Elphieya quietly asks, "Rotting fish again?"

Cryheart says, "Gads."

Ruffelin exclaims, "Och, wha' in th' void!"

Thadston asks, "Well, let's see it. The woods you said?"

Leafiara muses, "Or maybe the docks are more urgent."

[travel toward the forest]

Elphieya quietly says, "Please, no more serpents."

The voice of Gryzzlbok asks, "Can that horse hold more than 1 person?" [referring to Bristenn's]

[Wehnimer's, Exterior]

As you progress on this north-south path, the dark forest to the west catches your eye. A little forbidding in its primeval appearance, it is sure to offer a good source of small-game hunting. You also see a bloated deer corpse, a withered patch of grass and a mottled rolton hide tent.

>look cor

The corpse of the deer is bloated to appear almost twice its normal size in life. Tiny greyish-white maggots squirm about in rotted, empty eye sockets like tiny pools of pale, oily rice. Patches of skin have fallen from the corpse of the animal and countless, festering pus-filled wounds dart its oblong body in a variety of spots. Flies swarm around it, but none land, as if even they are wary of the dead beast.

>look gras

A large patch of grass appears to have turned bone white and nearly withered away, a stark contrast from the lush forest around it.

Ysharra says, "The deer is attracing maggots, but the flies are hovering, but not lighting upon it."

Thadston says, "If we chased every horrible smell we'd have run the Ta'Mori out of town eleven years ago."

(Pukk nudges the corpse with his boot.)

The voice of Gryzzlbok exclaims, "Rolton invasion!"

Pukk quietly says, "Yep, it's dead."

Bernadette softly says, "Thas a wee odd."

Stormyrain offers, "There is no story linked to this body or the area that I can uncover through song."

Speaking to Thadston, Hapenlok says, "Thanks. I needed that."

Thadston kneels down.

Thadston glances at a bloated deer corpse.

Ruffelin says, "Tha's nay normal corpse."

Speaking curiously to Thadston, Leafiara asks, "Is that one anything like your horse that was struck?"

A tiny angular lilac-point kitten asks, "Are you sure it's not the local privy place for all the animals brought into town?"

Speaking to Thadston, Madmountan says, "Let me know how it tastes."

Speaking in Faendryl, Lylia admits something you don't understand.

Casiphia leans in closer to Thadston for a moment, whispering something as he touches his side.

Cryheart says, "Shoo roltons."

Thadston stands up.

Lylia says, "They seem largely unaffected."

Speaking quietly to a tiny angular lilac-point kitten, Pukk says, "Shhhhh. If Goblyn finds out you can talk, she will make you into a pie."

Thadston asks, "Is this the only spot of dead grass known?"

Leafiara says, "More to the south."

Cryheart says, "South."

Avalera says, "I saw others."

A tiny angular lilac-point kitten says, "I'm not a real kitten. Sheesh."

Cryheart says, "By the tent."

Thadston asks, "How many total?"

Avalera says, "I saw at least four."

Leafiara recalls, "I saw at least two more, I think."

Hapenlok says, "To the south of the western gate."

The pungent odor of rotting flesh wafts through the woods.

Avalera says, "Total. Including this one."

Balley softly says, "Yuck."

Balley softly says, "The smell."

[travel]

[Wehnimer's, Exterior]

To the west, the landscape is gradually changing from a thick dark forest to an open, green grassy plain. You also see a withered patch of grass and a weathered canvas tent.

Madmountan says, "My bad, I forgot to go around looking for patches of dead grass."

Hapenlok says, "And another one near the signpost."

Avalera says, "There's some in Lower Dragonsclaw proper."

Thadston whispers something to Casiphia.

Casiphia nods at Thadston.

Lady Casiphia just went north.

Elphieya quietly asks, "Is there any connection between the places that anyone can think of? Or just roughly surrounding points in the town?"

Lylia says, "Then the grass is not spreading rot from the corpse of that afflicted deer itself, but could be some unwholesomeness of the soil itself."

Xorus says, "How bleak."

Ysharra says, "With all this rain, the dried and dead vegetation will break down quickly and leave patches of earth behind, I'd think."

Pukk quietly exclaims, "I blame the statue!"

Hapenlok says, "No, I'd say the corpse was the end result."

Bristenn idly comments, "It could be your groundwater."

Casiphia: "Another animal corpse. Dragonsclaw."

Neelin quietly says, "I hope I can cleanse some more undead today."

Bristenn dryly asks, "Have you checked upriver, perhaps?"

Ysharra says, "Talador is here, apparently."

Avalera says, "Yes, I did see another corpse as well. A gak."

Lylia counters, "Talador? This is not Talador."

Cryheart says, "Another animal corpse in Dragonsclaw reported on the net."

Speaking to Lylia, Hapenlok says, "Not yet."

Pukk quietly exclaims, "Rolton invasion!"

Chamorr heartily says, "Bleak Landing."

Pukk quietly says, "They are all Baaaaaaaaad."

Thadston says, "Casiphia is further into the woods. Let's find her."

Thadston nods at Lylia.

Lylia says, "Talador is a ruinous waste. There is time to discover what is afoot here and..."

Bristenn slowly reasons, "The Locksmehr here empties into the bay. Even then, the Locksmehr does share water with what once was Talador."

Lylia says, "Yes."

[travel]

Deep in the shadows, you think you see movement: something like a thousand snakes all swarming around each other. By the time you've focused to get a closer look, they are gone.

Cruxophim suddenly fades into view.

Speaking to Cruxophim, Hapenlok says, "You've been avoiding me, as of late."

Speaking to Cruxophim, Hapenlok says, "More on that later, though."

Speaking to Hapenlok, Leafiara repeats, "As of late... right."

Speaking curiously to Lylia, Cruxophim inquires, "Where we going?"

[Lower Dragonsclaw, Grasslands]

Growing among the warm grasses are a few scattered trees. It is hard to tell if the forest you can see to the west is encroaching upon the grasslands or if it is slowly being harvested and replaced for grazing. You also see a rolton, a glowing blue-white pylon, a huge imperial wagon and a fortified stone imperial outpost.

Thadston squints.

Lylia says, "Ranging."

Cryheart says, "To find Casiphia."

Thadston says, "She's in the Dragonsclaw."

Cryheart says, "She found a dead corpse."

Leafiara says, "This is the Dragonsclaw."

Speaking slowly to Cryheart, Cruxophim ventures, "She missing?"

Cryheart says, "Nae."

Thadston gazes up into the heavens.

Lylia asks, "As opposed to an animated one?"

Avalera says, "To the west of the west gate."

Sofal says, "Better than an undead corpse."

Thadston says, "The woods..."

Speaking quietly to Leafiara, Pukk says, "I think Lylia is catching whatever Sir Shiny has, she is walking real slow too now."

Thadston nods.

Leaifara understandingly says, "Ahhh."

Goldstr says, "I jess seen deer corpse north a west gate."

Speaking to Pukk, Hapenlok says, "She's not wearing fullplate armor."

Speaking quietly to Goldstr, Elphieya says, "We were just there."

Speaking to Pukk, Hapenlok says, "Statement is false."

[travel]

Goldstr says, "Ah."

Speaking quietly to Hapenlok, Pukk says, "That makes it even worse on her part then."

[Lower Dragonsclaw, Forest]

Your ears are becoming more attuned to the sounds of the forest surrounding you. Over your footsteps you hear the sounds of small birds overhead, comfortably nested in the sturdy oak trees. You also see a rotted gak corpse and a withered patch of grass.

>look cor

Death has not served the gak's ugly appearance. The creature is large, sprawled out on its side, with dried froth still caking its gnarled lips. Its striped brown pelt is broken up with a patchwork of festering black wounds that ooze with pus and tiny greyish-white maggots. It's one doe-like eyes stare up at the sky, absent of life.

Speaking heartily to Lylia, Chamorr says, "You should check out that wagon."

Casiphia joins Lylia's group.

>look cas

You see Lady Casiphia Malatina.

She appears to be a Human.

She is average. She appears to be in the prime of life. She has long-lashed dark brown eyes and fair skin. She has shoulder length, curly bluish-black hair arranged in a twisted roll at the back of her head and held in place by some carved ivory beads. She has an oval face, a small nose and wide hips.

She is in good shape.

She is wearing a suede-lined mantle of peppered wolf fur, a single-shoulder oiled leather vest, a wide leather baldric hung with a collection of various daggers, a trim black linen shirt left open at the collar, a slender clear crystal ring, a slotted leather belt displaying various tools and pouches, some crisp black brocade breeches, and some scuffed black suede knee-boots cuffed in grey fur.

>look thadst

You see Lord Thadston Andrews.

He appears to be a Human from Hendor.

He is very tall. He appears to be mature. He has brooding steel grey eyes and tanned skin. He has a shaven head of golden-brown hair streaked with white. He has a scruffy face, a broken nose and an unkempt, golden-brown beard shot with flecks of white. Barely visible beneath his shaven head of hair is a faint ring of scars in the shape of a crown.

He is in good shape.

He is wearing a crystal amulet, a discolored charcoal black cloak with the faded image of a blue phoenix on the back, a battered blue steel aegis, a worn black leather pack, some dull grey splint mail, some blackened kroderine gauntlets, a heavy black back scabbard, some fitted dark leather pants, and a pair of stained black boots.

Thadston nods at Casiphia.

Speaking to Cruxophim, Hapenlok says, "Do me a favor. Don't lick it."

Thadston winces.

Zosopage says, "Ate bad grass I think."

Pukk quietly says, "Oooh.....now you have to lick it."

The voice of Greycrown says, "Lick it."

The voice of Gryzzlbok says, "It's ok to lick it."

Ruffelin asks, "Any way ta tell if th' gak died frae eatin' th' grass?"

Lylia impatiently snaps, "Oh, can we cease the chatter about licking it? This is not a matter for simple-minded japery."

Thadston says, "Get some of the new recruits. Have them get both of the corpses. But don't store them near town. But I want them kept on ice for now."

Chamorr heartily says, "Japery."

Cryheart says, "Tis nae the time to lick a limp corpse."

Thadston nods at Casiphia.

Casiphia nods.

Speaking neutrally to a rotted gak corpse, Cruxophim notes, "Curious."

Speaking quietly to Lylia, Pukk asks, "You can't animate it?"

Casiphia moves for a moment in towards Thadston but then stops herself quickly. She nods and walks off.

Leafiara curiously says, "Autopsies or other studies, hmm. I guess it can't hurt."

Lylia says, "Too far gone for animation, yes."

Goldstr says, "Da crops, da fish an da critters all dying."

Lylia slowly says, "I am aware."

Kipara hoarsely says, "It's certainly an unnatural and pestulant death for these animals, as if that wasn't clear."

Reporting In

Thadston asks, "Captains, any other news?"

Chamorr heartily says, "And there is wagons of bleakstone missing."

Pukk quietly exclaims, "See if Happy was mayor, this wouldn't have happened!"

Elphieya quietly asks, "Should we investigate the docks and that smell?"

Diamondelille says, "Wot be killin the grass an the critters be eatin."

Thadston says, "And what are the thoughts of this ridiculous statue in our town."

Thadston says, "No offense to its likeness."

Thadston nods at Lylia.

Speaking hoarsely to Neelin, Kipara says, "A bit jittery? The local fauna aren't much threat."

Madmountan says, "You could always try to drag it away, but your hand might rot off."

Speaking to Thadston, Goldstr says, "I ware dat statue."

Cryheart says, "Tis bleakstone which comes from the bleaklands, which is blighted..."

Chamorr heartily says, "Collect all the bleakstone and send it back."

Speaking quietly to Kipara, Neelin says, "It looked at me funny."

Lylia flatly says, "None taken. I did not ask for it. I did not commission it. It was a gift, and I am beginning to suspect its source."

Speaking deeply to Kipara, Berost says, "Nae be surprised if the militia attack a few nights ago was to distract us from the grounds being poisoned. Too far from Talador for the roots to make it here."

Speaking to Pukk, Hapenlok asks, "Are you that ignorant? Or are you that dumb?"

Sofal says, "I still think Raznel has used golems before.. just my 2 cents."

Speaking quietly to Hapenlok, Pukk exclaims, "Yes!"

Thadston asks, "And Alendrial signed for it to be permitted here?"

Thadston mutters under his breath.

Speaking to Thadston, Shinann asks, "Were you not told by the council that it was approved to be brought into town by Alendrial?"

Chamorr heartily says, "It might be too late those missing wagons carried bleakstone too."

Speaking to Thadston, Stormyrain says, "Beyond the appearance of Disean, the bloated fish, the spreading rot, and the appearance of the gift bringer who slung it through our gates; nothing that I can think of---Sir."

Cryheart says, "Lord Cayde said so."

Speaking curiously to Thadston, Cruxophim ventures, "Pardon?"

Speaking hoarsely to Berost, Kipara says, "Yes, the taint can be long and deceptively deep."

Lylia says, "She did, and I do not hold this against her. It is not exactly a diplomatically wise move to turn away a valuable gift from an unknown source."

Balley softly asks, "Did you tell him about the bugs?"

Cruxophim absently whispers aloud, "The bleakstone statue?"

Speaking quietly to Cryheart, Elphieya says, "And produced a parchment to prove it."

Speaking to Balley, Stormyrain asks, "Which ones? The ones that have been appearing for weeks?"

Speaking to Cruxophim, Hapenlok says, "My, my, you do need to pay more attention."

Cryheart says, "We hae a few citizens infected now as well."

Balley softly says, "The ones who attacked."

Speaking to Lylia, Ysharra says, "Perhaps we could speak to the Councilwoman and see if she knows more about its journey here."

Kipara hoarsely says, "If the statue is causing the problems, then the diplomacy of the gifter was false."

Cruxophim sardonically muses, "Are we serious thinking this is related somehow?"

Speaking to Cryheart, Leafiara adds, "Some standing here, in fact."

Neelin quietly says, "Well clearly something is going on here. I say we wait patiently for whatever the cause is to show up in force."

Cruxophim dryly adds, "And not, say, a product of the witch?"

Speaking to Cruxophim, Hapenlok says, "She's had years to prepare for this. either way."

Cruxophim dully continues, "Who does this sort of thing routinely?"

Speaking softly to Stormyrain, Razanetika says, "The scarabs that Disean put into Balley."

Speaking dryly to Neelin, Shiril says, "Yes. Wait patiently. Always a good plan."

Speaking to Cruxophim, Hapenlok says, "You saw that den of horror in the temple."

Speaking amusedly to Hapenlok, Cruxophim adds, "Decades, even."

Lylia says, "We all know the ultimate cause. The proximal cause may or may not be the statue, finely wrought as it is. But ultimately, there is one source of this."

Speaking amusedly to Hapenlok, Cruxophim corrects, "Centuries."

Speaking to Cruxophim, Hapenlok says, "And I don't know enough about what Bleakstone can do. Much as we didn't know much about the blood marble."

Kipara hoarsely says, "An invasion of creatures couldn't be her base goal."

Speaking to Cruxophim, Hapenlok says, "And she was behind that, too."

Speaking to Thadston, Stormyrain says, "There's the other pieces of news you may not have heard. Scarabs, and some that have taken residence up under the skin of Landing folk."

Balley softly says, "I just do not understand why he murdered me."

Speaking nonchalantly to Hapenlok, Cruxophim informs, "I know plenty about blood marble. Keep up."

Thadston asks, "Like the one that hit the Mayor?"

Lylia tersely says, "Yes."

Thadston frowns.

Balley softly says, "Mine is not blood marble."

Speaking to Thadston, Stormyrain says, "Some, though I think that they are also a bit different."

Speaking hoarsely to Stormyrain, Kipara asks, "Under their skin? Isn't that just how they kill?"

Bernadette softly says, "I got scarab in me blood marble."

Thadston spits out a muttered curse.

Stormyrain says, "Blood marble scarabs, and shadowy ones."

Thadston says, "We've got to get rid of this witch once and for all."

Speaking curiously to Kipara, Leafiara says, "These don't seem to be interested in killing. Or... at least not quickly."

Magisterial Hopes

Thadston says, "Magister, while you're here..."

Balley softly says, "I have a shadowy black one."

Thadston glances at Raelee.

Berost deeply says, "Finally."

Thadston asks, "Have you more of your glass coffins?"

Evia: "All quiet?"

Stormyrain: "No."

Speaking to Thadston, Raelee says, "I could arrange to have one transported."

Leafiara: "We're speaking with Thadston out here in the forest."

Thadston says, "Good. Please do."

Speaking amusedly to Thadston, Cruxophim ventures, "Planning to stick her in one?"

Elphieya uncertainly asks, "Glass coffins?"

Thadston says, "No."

Lylia: "Quiet? In a sense, yes, but it is the quiet of graves. The blight has spread."

Thadston says, "We will murder Raznel."

Thadston says, "There is no containing her."

Speaking nonchalantly to Thadston, Cruxophim muses, "Oh."

Thadston says, "I will grind her to dust a thousand times if need be."

Speaking to Cruxophim, Hapenlok says, "No....him. And I don't know how much of a viable idea that is."

Stormyrain icily asks, "And what is the plan with the glass coffin, then?"

Leafiara pleasedly says, "Ahhh, murder."

Lylia remarks, "There seems to be little chance of merely murdering her either."

Ruffelin says, "An' dispose o' th' dust by fire."

Thadston says, "Don't worry about it right now Captain."

Kipara hoarsely asks, "Wasn't she murdered before?"

Speaking casually to Thadston, Cruxophim jests, "Good, I can't have too much competition running around."

Kipara hoarsely asks, "What plan do we have to keep her dead?"

Speaking tersely to Thadston, Raelee asks, "... and what is your intent for the coffin?"

Thadston says, "Please get me a coffin."

Speaking musingly to Kipara, Leafiara says, "Sometimes persistence can pay off."

Thadston nods at Raelee.

Thadston says, "There. I said please."

Speaking to Thadston, Raelee repeats, "Why?"

Jiarine: "If you have a small amount of coinage you can pay to travel there without walking. Much easier."

Speaking quietly to Thadston, Elphieya asks, "Will you share what you need it for?"

Speaking hoarsely to Leafiara, Kipara says, "And sometimes it's insanity."

Thadston says, "And how about I not ink my entire plans out in the open with known witch whores."

Speaking to Thadston, Raelee says, "Then we can discuss it later."

Speaking bemusedly to Thadston, Cruxophim mouths, "Known witch whores?"

Speaking to Thadston, Leafiara suggests, "Or just ask Breshon. Maybe he won't need to hear a reason."

Jiarine: "That is enough."

Thadston says, "Get it first, and we'll discuss."

Sofal says, "That escalated quickly."

Lylia mildly remarks, "Witch whores."

Speaking pointedly to Thadston, Raelee says, "You still have not come to see about about Dennet's materials either."

Rioting at the Docks

A militiaman rushes in and salutes Stormyrain, briefly pauses when he also notices Thadston, but continues to address Stormyrain. "Captain, there is a lot of angry people at the docks and it's looking to get really violent soon!"

Stormyrain whispers something to Thadston.

Speaking to Thadston, Raelee adds, "I will work with you, Thadston, but I do not work for you."

Speaking to Thadston, Hapenlok says, "Your intent is clear to me."

Leafiara wryly says, "Yep. Knew those docks would need our attention."

Diablic exclaims, "To the docks!"

Cryheart says, "Sounds like a protest at the docks."

[travel]

Stormyrain says, "Indeed."

The voice of Jiarine blandly says, "Oh a riot. Nothing saying the Landing like your locals up in arms."

[Wehnimer's, North Dock]

The dock's planks are dull and weathered from the salt spray of many seasons. Northward beyond the massive sea gates, a flock of ice geese passes, silhouetted against the sky over the dark blue waters of Darkstone Bay. The hulk of a derelict coastal sailer is tethered to the end of the pier. You also see an angry town fisherman, an angry town fisherman, an angry town dockworker, an angry town fisherman, an angry town dockworker, an angry town fisherman, an angry town dockworker, an angry town dockworker, an angry town fisherman, an angry town fisherman, an angry town dockworker, a black imperial wagon with a glowing blue-white pylon on it, the dark waters of Darkstone Bay, a stack of empty crates, some huge wooden crates, some stacked piles of supplies, some large imperial ships and a huge grey imperial warship.

Leafiara concedes, "Very true--"

Speaking to Thadston, Hapenlok says, "...and I'm only going to say, ...remember what happened to the Assassin, Vleg."

Leafiara surprisedly says, "Well then."

A dockworker shouts, "I don't care!"

The voice of Gryzzlbok exclaims, "Get back to work ya lazy scallyways!"

Pukk yells, "I don't care!"

Shiril says, "It smells fishy in here."

Cruxophim yells, "I don't care either!"

A fisherman moves to almost push a dockworker, but some of his friends hold him back, "Fine, don't work! You barely did anyway!"

Speaking quietly to Shiril, Pukk says, "Sorry, my fault."

Ruffelin says, "Ye cannae blame 'em fer bein' frustrated an' angry. Jus' nay sure wha' we kin do 'bout it, short o' killin' th' witch."

Lylia commands, "Enough!"

Neelin quietly says, "Must have caught a rotten catch or something."

Diablic says, "I have 1000 silvers on the dockhand."

Cryheart asks, "What is the problem?"

Chamorr heartily says, "Anybody see that."

Diablic asks, "Any takers?"

Bernadette softly asks, "Can we talk about it?"

Speaking to an angry town dockworker, Ysharra says, "Take a deep breath. We'll listen to you."

Speaking to an angry town dockworker, Shiril says, "Maybe don't. It smells."

Some of the dockworkers move in towards some of the fisherman and one boasts loudly, "You can't promise the fee, and you'll only pull in rot, so sorry, you're land bound for now."

One of the fisherman spits "On whose order? Mother? Your frilly little mother?"

Evia: "Can't find that forest for the trees."

Ruffelin says, "Och, fer void's sake."

Lylia warns, "A cell would not be comfortable for any of you..."

Thadston gazes in wonder at his surroundings.

Speaking calmly to Lylia, Cruxophim inquires, "Want them subdued?"

Thadston nods at Shinann.

Neelin quietly says, "I wonder if we can handle this in a diplomatic fashion."

The voice of Jiarine says, "You could do the diplomatic thing and kill them all."

Neelin quietly says, "I've always wanted to see that be done."

Speaking quietly to Cruxophim, Elphieya asks, "Alive, yes?"

Lylia says, "I would like to think I am capable of doing so with words, but if need be..."

Speaking carefully to Elphieya, Cruxophim concedes, "Sure."

Thadston says, "I don't have time for this. Captains, if these idiots get out of control, arrest them."

Speaking to Neelin, Leafiara admits, "I've yet to see it work either."

Thadston says, "We have bigger issues."

Lord Thadston just limped west.

Hapenlok says, "Or I could just pull you out of hiding and push you towards them..."

Speaking quietly to Leafiara, Neelin asks, "The real question is do we have enough guards to cover the riot that they might start?"

Speaking calmly to an angry town fisherman, Cruxophim suggests, "Consider the consequences."

A fisherman shouts, "Oh look! The militia man lord doesn't even care about our plight!"

The voice of Gryzzlbok says, "It's misdirection."

Speaking to an angry town fisherman, Lylia says, "Care to tell me what has pulled you from your bed at this hour? You know I shall listen."

[Leafi steps away for a bit, then returns]

A fisherman scowls, "I can say more, if you show your ugly face!"

Cruxophim exclaims to the fisherman, "You horn-beast! Die!"

Speaking to an angry town dockworker, Goldstr says, "We knows times be tough. Be time to work together, nae squabble."

Cruxophim exclaims to the dockworker, "You cutpurse! Die!"

A dockworker moves in to a fisherman, "Watch your mouth."

The voice of Greycrown says, "Alright, the fisherman has won me over."

Kipara hoarsely says, "The death of fish is nothing to an adventurer, but everything to a fisherman."

Cryheart says, "Alright take a deep breath all."

Thrassus dryly says, "Yes, let's taunt the crowd and start a riot."

Kipara hoarsely says, "It's best we remember."

The voice of Jiarine says, "I have nothing better to do than start a riot."

Lylia says, "Insults and barbs ill suit any of us."

Cryheart says, "Let the mayor discuss it with em."

Speaking to an angry town dockworker, Hapenlok asks, "Start from the beginning. What started this quarrel?"

Lylia growls, "You can get arrested, if you incite one."

Ysharra says, "Hungry, scared people who likely have families at home waiting for better fortune."

Neelin quietly asks, "Maybe if we cut off one of their legs it'll give us some leg room for negotiations?"

In a fair imitation of Lylia, Pukk quietly exclaims, "Off with their heads!"

Neelin quietly says, "Just a suggestion."

Speaking boredly to an angry town fisherman, Cruxophim snaps, "I offered you donuts!"

Leafiara calmly says, "I'm sure we can resolve this wi--"

Leafiara flatly says, "Never mind."

Cryheart says, "Oy."

Thrassus says, "There they go."

Neelin quietly exclaims, "Alright everyone aim for the legs!"

Ruffelin exclaims, "Och, now, tha's enough. Separate 'em!"

Ysharra says, "Separate them."

Nysanora mildly says, "They do not even fight well."

Sofal says, "Now may be a good time for a sanctuary."

Ysharra says, "If you can."

Diablic exclaims, "I called it!"

Leafiara suggests, "There's a good tavern in Icemule where you can brawl to your heart's content."

Hapenlok says, "No let them get it out of their system."

Stormyrain: "Any available militiamen please join us on the docks, and bring shackles. Lots of them."

Speaking offhandedly to Sofal, Leafiara says, "Already done."

Speaking to Diablic, Enestrie says, "Taking your bet."

Speaking to an angry town fisherman, Goldstr exclaims, "Stand down!"

Lylia snaps, "Arrest them."

Xorus says, "This is hooliganism if not public endangerment."

Cryheart says, "Time for the militia."

Ysharra asks, "It'll spread, Hapenlok, there's a lot of furious, scared- see?"

The voice of Jiarine asks, "Can we kill them?"

Stormyrain says, "..I have called for reinforcements with shackles."

Speaking to Lazaryth, Shiril asks, "Maddening, isn't it?"

Ruffelin says, "There'll be nay gettin' it out o' their systems. It'll jus' escalate."

Razanetika softly asks, "Are they taking over the town?"

Cryheart says, "They are citizens."

The voice of Gryzzlbok says, "Let them take out Pukk first."

An angry town fisherman swings a salt-stained wooden hatchet at Pukk!

Pukk moves at the last moment to evade the attack!

Speaking to an angry town dockworker, Zosopage asks, "How much would it cost to take them fishing?"

Cryheart says, "No."

Elphieya quietly asks, "Are they taking the fight further into town?"

Lylia says, "They are the town."

Ruffelin exclaims, "Stop!"

Hapenlok says, "Anyone hurts these people, I'll kill 'em. That's not an idle threat."

Kipara recites hoarsely:

"I doubt a fisherman or a dockworker is powerful enough to be the cause of all this misfortune so why not come together?"

Speaking sweetly to Hapenlok, Shiril asks, "You'd hurt me?"

Goldstr says, "Dese be our neighbors folks. Treats em as sech."

Shinann exclaims, "Stop!"

The voice of Greycrown asks, "The legs are between the eyes, right?"

Berost deeply says, "They be bewitched, an scared an hungry."

Cryheart says, "Dinnae provoke them."

Leafiara says, "On the other hand, they're starting to move throughout the town..."

Diablic asks, "Why is the fisherman attacking me?"

Diablic says, "That's enough."

Neelin quietly exclaims, "Enough!"

Speaking to Raelee, Ysharra says, "Keep your head down, Magister."

Cryheart says, "Enough indeed."

Stormyrain: "..quickly militia, please."

Speaking to Ysharra, Raelee says, "I can do better than that. Coffins may be my responsibility. This, however, is not."

Leafiara curiously says, "Hrm. Calming spells don't seem to affect them..."

Speaking to Shiril, Hapenlok says, "I've got more in common with these fellows on the docks than I do the most of you."

Neelin quietly exclaims, "If you're going to fight over wages or what have you use your fists!"

Kipara hoarsely says, "Yes, Magister, wouldn't want you getting too fishy."

Speaking absently to Hapenlok, Leafiara says, "Yeah, can't argue that one."

Speaking amusedly to Hapenlok, Shiril says, "I'll say."

Ysharra says, "Good girl, Magister. Just as you should."

FUN PAUSE.

Leafiara concernedly asks, "Are both the militia -and- town guard busy?"

(OOC) Leafiara's player whispers to the group, "Oh."

Speaking quietly to a pale-faced coppery barn owl, Pukk exclaims, "You can stop this riot. I know it! You always seem to know just what to say!"

The voice of Greycrown asks, "What are the odds they've just found someplace new to brawl?"

Neelin quietly exclaims, "Think of the children!"

Lylia whispers something to Xorus.

Ruffelin says, "Aye, likely there's fisticuffs in th' streets an' back alleys alike."

Elphieya quietly asks, "Did anyone see where the ones who went west ended up?"

Xorus whispers something to Lylia.

Speaking pleasedly to Ruffelin, Shiril says, "Excellent."

Speaking hoarsely to a spotted great horned owl, Kipara says, "Such a quiet creature in the center of such a loud mess."

Bernadette softly says, "Im hopin me spider will protect me from the scarab under me skin, here hopin."

[Leafi steps away for a bit, then returns]

Cryheart says, "Go defensive."

Ruffelin says, "Oy, none o' tha'."

Lazaryth says, "Disarm them."

Hapenlok says, "Oh, bugger this..."

Goldstr exclaims, "Stand down now!"

Speaking amusedly to Lazaryth, Shiril says, "Just smile at them with your pretty face; that should disarm them well enough."

(Lylia reaches into her pocket and tosses out a handful of coins.)

Lylia drops some coins.

Ysharra says, "There's no reason to kill them, is there? They're just angry, none of them need to die for it..."

Thrassus asks, "Shall we subdue them?"

Diablic says, "So we can't attack them, but they can attack us. Nice."

Speaking quietly to Lylia, Pukk asks, "Just a few coins?"

Leafiara says, "At least their martial forms aren't nearly as good as that time Chaston took control of our blacksmiths. Now -they- were dangerous with their hammers..."

Speaking quietly to Lylia, Pukk says, "You need to drop more."

Speaking to Shiril, Ysharra says, "You know, I think you're on to something."

Lazaryth distantly says, "Yes, yes..."

Evia says, "You could always move yourself into some safe little corner of town and sulk about what you cannot do."

Speaking to Leafiara, Hapenlok says, "Yet, they they're wearing armor and carrying shields...on the docks."

Lylia whispers something to Pukk.

Speaking dryly to Ysharra, Shiril says, "I always am."

Speaking to Leafiara, Hapenlok says, "That says everything you need to know, right there."

Elphieya quietly says, "We can't just start killing the citizens of this town."

Speaking curiously to Hapenlok, Leafiara asks, "Wouldn't you, with the recent serpent attacks?"

Jiarine asks, "Why not?"

Elphieya quietly says, "They are obviously not thinking right, or possibly even for themselves."

Speaking to Leafiara, Hapenlok says, "Point taken."

Pukk whispers something to Lylia.

Cryheart says, "Tis called murder."

Neelin quietly says, "Hear me out."

Speaking to Chaoswynd, Sofal asks, "Would a mass calm maybe give some perspective to their group?"

Neelin quietly says, "We just take a leg or two."

The voice of Gryzzlbok says, "Self defense is more like it."

Neelin quietly says, "To restore balance."

Speaking to Sofal, Ysharra says, "I've been trying."

Jiarine says, "Your little leader was just walking about murdering a witch. Explain how that is different."

Bernadette softly asks, "Ye tink the statue be changin the folk?"

Speaking to Sofal, Chaoswynd says, "I've attempted that multiple times. Something is preventing it."

Speaking to Sofal, Ysharra says, "I'd say they aren't ready to be calm just yet."

Elphieya quietly says, "If we start killing townsfolk then we are basically doing Raznel's job for her."

A majestic king cheetah charges forward and slashes his claws at an angry town fisherman faster than he can react!

... 10 points of damage!

Slash to the town fisherman's chest!

That heart's not broken, it's only scratched.

Kipara hoarsely says, "This isn't the Rone resistance, try not to dismember anyone."

Lylia promises, "The next one to incite rioting here or to threaten murder may find herself spending the night in the stocks."

Stormyrain asks, "Oy, who has the cheetah?"

Thrassus says, "I can try to put them to sleep, I suppose."

Diablic says, "He was protecting me since the fisherman and dockworkers tried to attack me."

Gryzzlbok says, "That cheetah deserves some fish."

Speaking gently to a majestic king cheetah, Leafiara says, "Hasn't needed to escalate to that quite yet."

Diablic says, "Personally? I say let Leo kill them all."

Diablic says, "But that is just me."

As the fishermen and dockworkers continue to get tackled, slept or disarmed, their tension begins to die down but many of them still look onward in anger.

Pukk quietly says, "They are just scared and hungry."

Speaking to Pukk, Diablic says, "They don't need to eat me."

Suddenly, Serpents

Just then, a splash of water is heard from behind a dockworker in the bay.

Elphieya quietly says, "Oh no."

Elphieya quietly says, "The bay."

Hapenlok shouts, "I share your ange-...."

Bernadette softly says, "Ware the bay."

Stormyrain says, "Mm."

The voice of Greycrown asks, "What did he throw in the water?"

Ysharra says, "This isn't going to go well."

Pukk quietly exclaims, "Look out!"

Jiarine cheerfully says, "They might just die all on their own now anyway."

Hapenlok shouts, "You men, get inside!"

Speaking to a well-muscled dun charger, Bristenn grouses, "Back to the outpost, then."

Goldstr exclaims, "Watch fer dem serpents!"

Suddenly a farmer looks down and screams and is pulled beneath the water! Loud clicking erupts from nearby.

Cruxophim raspily purrs, "Mmmm, a fight."

Jiarine asks, "See?"

Leafiara roars, "Here they come again!"

Ruffelin exclaims, "Och, nay agin!"

Evia says, "That clicking..."

Ruffelin exclaims, "Arm yerselves!"

Evia says, "Serpents of the sea."

The voice of Gryzzlbok asks, "They releasin the kraken?"

Goldstr exclaims, "Dey be bigger den kraken!"

The fishermen and dockworkers begin to scramble and the oily black forms of serpents can be seen gliding towards the docks.

Thrassus asks, "It might take them a bit to work thier way through that crowd, perhaps?"

Leafiara determinedly says, "Ahhh, battle. It never ends."

Elphieya quietly says, "No, no, no."

Ruffelin says, "Void it all, here they come agin."

[extended combat]

Xorus says, "This is certainly one way to quell civil unrest."

You see a lump moving about just under Chaoswynd's skin!

[various glances at Cay]

Bristenn points west.

Bristenn simply remarks, "Stragglers."

Ysharra says, "More to the west."

Chaoswynd mutters, "For the love of... I'm fine people, worry about the damned serpents."

[more combat]

The air crackles with ethereal energy!

Black tendrils of anti-mana climb over Kipara draining her power!

The air about Kipara stops shimmering.

[etc., everyone loses their outside spells]

Cryheart says, "Gads."

Ysharra says, "Mhm..."

Leafiara mumbles, "Hate it when that happens."

Hapenlok says, "...no."

Berkana says, "Ugh."

Jiarine asks, "What in the bloody hell is this?"

Ysharra says, "That's definitely the Bleaklands."

Greycrown says, "Antimana."

Leafiara replies, "Dispels."

[more combat]

Greycrown exclaims, "Worms in Town Square West!"

Evia asks, "Worms?"

Hapenlok: "Bristenn's being strangled!"

Trolling Thadston

Saraphene: "Sweet, sweet husband of mine....I hear you are wounded, a horrible, horrible wound that grows. Let me help you."

Evia says, "Some serpents east."

Xorus says, "Raznel."

Leafiara says, "Ah, Raznel's up to some tricks with that... thought voice."

Stormyrain says, "A few to the east."

Evia says, "Three serpents and dead man east."

Stormyrain says, "..with a corpse."

Xorus asks, "Where is Thadston?"

Cruxophim: "Move triage!"

Cruxophim: "Raging Thrak, deader here."

[more combat]

Saraphene: "Come dear, I'll forgive you for that other one. She will be but a memory. I am sure our son will forgive you too."

Elphieya: "I'm in Thrak now."

Lylia: "Why do you bother with the subterfuge, Naimorai? No one is taken in. Have you forgotten who you are yourself?"

Cryheart says, "Saraphene."

The ghostly voice of Lazaryth says, "Now I've gone and done it."

Speaking to Lazaryth, Ysharra asks, "I told you to skedaddle, didn't I?"

[combat]

The ghostly voice of Lazaryth says, "The company was too charming to leave."

[combat]

Hapenlok: "....well, you've gotten bold, witch."

Stormyrain says, "Is everyone hearing Saraphene in their thoughts? If not, she's having quite the time on the 'net."

Cryheart says, "Aye."

Lylia tightly says, "Yes."

Pietra: "Where is triage?"

Cryheart: "Your time is coming, Saraphene."

Leafiara says, "I don't understand what she's driving at... perhaps just amusing herself."

Cruxophim: "Welcome back, Naimorai. Been a while, heh."

[combat]

Shinann: "Thadston, do not go to her."

Hapenlok: "You have something of mine that I want back."

Thrassus asks, "Can anyone unpoison me?"

Ysharra: "Good evening, Naimorai."

Shinann says, "Like that is going to help." [I assume in reference to her talking to Thadston]

Speaking dubiously to Shinann, Leafiara says, "He can't be -that- dumb."

Leafiara slowly asks, "...can he?"

Stormyrain can offer Leafiara only a blank expression.

Jiarine says, "Men are stupid. This should be common knowledge."

Speaking to Leafiara, Shiril asks, "What did I miss, that she's looking at you like that?"

Speaking to Jiarine, Leafiara sighs, "Well... ...yes."

[combat]

[Town Square, West]

Here in the midst of the town stretches the cobblestoned main bazaar, its lamplit lanes abuzz with traders and vendors hawking their wares at any hour of the day or night. Groups of citizens, discussing the day's events or preparing for nighttime hunts, gather around the doors of the merchants whose shops border the square. The gilded but peeling stone facade of the First Elanith Bank dominates this side of the square. You also see the night watchman that appears dead, a rotted oily black sea serpent and a ribbon-festooned raffle table with some stuff on it.

Speaking to Shiril, Leafiara explains, "Shinann told Thadston not to go to Saraphene, since it's not her."

Pietra says, "They killed the night watchman."

Saraphene: "Husband, my dearest...I know you can hear me...Disean is waiting. Do you miss us?"

Speaking flatly to Shiril, Leafiara says, "I hope he's not that dumb. Truly."

Lauranathalasa asks, "Watchman body?"

Speaking lightly to Leafiara, Shiril says, "Hope is a funny thing."

Cryheart asks, "Watchman is dead?"

Hapenlok: "...I missed you."

Xorus says, "What she is attempting suggests that wound in Thadston's side will compromise his mind."

Pietra says, "Somewhere around here, saw his dead body."

Madmountan says, "This is why I don't have a family."

Shinann: "Why are you welcoming her?"

Cryheart: "Naimorai, Naimorai...tsk tsk."

Hapenlok: "Wait for it."

Lauranathalasa asks, "Should we look for the watchman?"

Speaking offhandedly to Lauranathalasa, Leafiara says, "This might be a little beyond him." [in the scroll I missed the context of him being dead]

Cryheart says, "Stay flying, Owly."

A faint ashen-hued mist seeps across the ground.

Hapenlok: "...if you think I'm going to allow you to use that boy like you did, Vleg."

Thrassus says, "That's new."

A majestic king cheetah stares hungrily at Stormyrain!

Ysharra says, "Like the Bleaklands, too..."

Cryheart says, "Same mist it seems."

Hapenlok: "....I missed you the last time, I don't plan on doing it this time...and you've got something that belongs to me."

Speaking to a dark-haired half-elven priestess, Lylia says, "Run."

Speaking to a majestic king cheetah, Stormyrain states, "Not food."

Ysharra says, "The mist that made us attack one another."

Thrassus says, "I am not sure if that mist was ashen in color."

Speaking to Stormyrain, Diablic says, "Leo is just looking for attention."

Xorus says, "It was more of a noxious green."

The ashen mist thickens, hugging the ground and obscuring the cobblestones of many streets of town. Some nearby citizens run into their homes or shops, just as a large hulking form rises up out of the mist and rushes off into the night.

Greycrown says, "They're difficult for archers."

Chaoswynd slowly says, "Oh... that's a good sign."

Cryheart says, "Hmm..here we go."

Leafiara comments, "Always with the mist coming to life these days..."

Shinann asks, "What was that?"

Another hulking form rises in the distance, obscured by the fog and night, and rushes off.

Neelin quietly exclaims, "It means they're all out of tricks!"

Thrassus says, "They are fast, whatever they are."

Jiarine says, "Oh the usual. Terrors in the night, screaming children, murder."

[continued combat with serpents]

There is screaming in the distance as two more forms rise from the mist, shambling off into the dark of night.

[Leafi breaks off to search for the forms]

Saraphene: "It's only going to get worse my dear husband...."

Lylia: "Thadston. You know better."

Shinann: "Thadston, do not listen to her."

Lylia: "Look for the lie. No counterfeit is ever perfect. Look for the lie within the truth."

[return to the main group]

Pietra says, "Oh gads."

Cryheart says, "They are kidnapping folks."

Ysharra exclaims, "Oh no!"

Hapenlok: "...oh, hell."

Pietra says, "And lunching on them."

Thrassus says, "They are eating folks you mean."

Ysharra exclaims, "They aren't kidnapping them, they're eating them!"

Cruxophim: "Well, Trolls, one... Townspeople, zero."

Jiarine blandly says, "At least the housing market here is in good shape."

One by one, out of the mist, a sea of bleak trolls rises.

Speaking quietly to Madmountan, Pukk asks, "That troll looks a lot like you. Kin of yours?"

Speaking to a tiny angular lilac-point kitten, Shiril says, "You've sass. I like it."

Hapenlok says, "...trolls."

Thrassus says, "They blend in with that mist rather well."

[Leafi splits off]

Pietra: "I think it's minus one townspeople."

[return to main group, combat]

Hapenlok says, "Gonna have to do better than trolls."

Speaking to Hapenlok, Thrassus says, "Yes, let's give them ideas."

Zosopage says, "They are not undead so can use a more powerful weapon."

Pietra says, "I hate trolls."

Shiril politely says, "Pardon me."

Evia says, "Not undead..yet, give them a day."

[splits off, returns, combat]

Lylia says, "All of the wealth we shake out of them will go toward feeding the town."

Speaking to Lylia, Hapenlok says, "I'm going hunting."

[combat]

Elphieya: "Has anyone seen the trolls after that poor unfortunate townsperson was killed?"

Hapenlok: "All over the place."

Leafiara: "We're encountering quite a number of them."

Cryheart: "They are in town all over."

[combat]

Leafiara acknowledges, "Claudaro's gonna hate hearing that he missed -this- round of chaos."

Speaking to Lylia, Hapenlok says, "I've got a strong desire to go looking for her. But like always, could be virtually anywhere."

Lylia snaps, "Well, what a pity for him."

Speaking to Hapenlok, Leafiara says, "She might not even be anywhere near... to be honest."

Hapenlok says, "Facts."

[12000 lines of combat]

Saraphene: "Our son's heart breaks."

Leafiara: "...right. Does he still have one?"

Casiphia's Cunning

[Town Square Central]

This is the heart of the main square of Wehnimer's Landing. The impromptu shops of the bazaar are clustered around this central gathering place, where townsfolk, travellers, and adventurers meet to talk, conspire or raise expeditions to the far-flung reaches of Elanith. At the north end, an old well, with moss-covered stones and a craggy roof, is shaded from the moonlight by a strong, robust tree. The oak is tall and straight, and it is apparent that the roots run deep. You also see some stone benches with some stuff on it and an herbal remedy donation bin.

Lady Casiphia just arrived.

Speaking optimistically to Casiphia, Leafiara says, "Please tell me he didn't go after her."

Casiphia says, "She won't bait him."

Casiphia says, "He's asleep."

Speaking to Casiphia, Lylia says, "Good."

Casiphia says, "I saw to it."

Speaking to Casiphia, Lylia says, "He is not a stupid man. I know this."

Casiphia taps a pouch she is wearing.

Speaking to Casiphia, Thrassus asks, "What if she happens to find him helpless?"

Speaking to Casiphia, Leafiara acknowledges, "You're pretty practical. I like you."

Casiphia says, "He won't be found by her."

Cryheart says, "That is good to hear."

Casiphia says, "He'll wake in the morning like always."

Thrassus says, "I see, that's good."

Zosopage says, "Clouds have moved off."

Roblar deeply says, "Tomorrow stop by ma talk about da mysteries of da arcane."

Speaking to Casiphia, Evia asks, "And yourself, are you doing alright?"

Lylia asks, "Is this something that has played out often in your travels with him, I wonder?"

Slowly, the ashen-hued mist breaks apart, seeping into the ground.

Ruffelin says, "Blind as a bat, I am."

Ysharra says, "There are a few townsfolk who not be waking come the morning."

Neelin quietly says, "Seems like it's over."

Casiphia says, "Yes, we have a system in place, if you will."

Myasarie quietly says, "Nae sure why ones mage spells vanished."

Speaking to Evia, Kembal says, "I came here to gather alchemy components, and I end up fighting crazy trolls and serpents."

Casiphia says, "And I am fine, as fine as can be. I've been training a lot, for this."

Speaking to Myasarie, Hapenlok says, "The wild magic."

Casiphia says, "For this battle."

Speaking to Myasarie, Hapenlok says, "Like up in the Rift."

Lylia says, "Good."

Speaking to Kembal, Evia exclaims, "Either way, I am glad you are here!"

Speaking to Myasarie, Hapenlok says, "Anything not of your sphere goes away."

Speaking to Casiphia, Lylia says, "Then perhaps you can help the rest of us prepare."

Casiphia says, "I think what we have next, is our best move so far."

Speaking to Casiphia, Lylia says, "This blight. It is similar, but not identical to, the Bleaklands."

Casiphia says, "But I worry for Pylasar. But Thadston is beside himself with out to dispatch Raznel."

Casiphia nods at Lylia.

Casiphia says, "So it seems."

Lylia says, "These goals are not at cross purposes."

Bernadette softly says, "Bring bad ness."

Speaking quietly to Hapenlok, Myasarie says, "Ahh. Thank thee for the information Lord Hapenlok."

Casiphia says, "But Thad sleeps, he will wake well rested tomorrow. And it is by his choice. I knew he needed the drink tonight."

Lylia flatly says, "Drink."

Shinann asks, "What drink?"

Evia says, "I must be getting jumpy, she said cross, and I thought Cross and nearly jumped out of my skin."

Speaking to Casiphia, Hapenlok says, "....good on you. Because he would have ran out there again."

The voice of Stolas asks, "It over?"

Lylia says, "A medicinal draught? Not wine, I hope."

Speaking musingly to Casiphia, Leafiara says, "Drinks and arrows. You're getting really talented."

Shinann says, "I suppose I missed that."

Casiphia says, "A concoction from Mestanir, once, perhaps still used by some sects of Koarites."

Ysharra whispers something to Thrassus.

Casiphia says, "These are dark and difficult times."

Casiphia nods to Leafiara.

Balley softly says, "A tad painful too."

Cruxophim snickers.

Cruxophim glances at a bone-framed bulletin board.

Casiphia grins at Cruxophim.

Speaking to Casiphia, Hapenlok says, "Well..."

Jiarine mouths, "You missed."

The voice of Stolas says, "It looked like a troll."

Speaking to Casiphia, Hapenlok teases, "You must be new here. This is just another day for us."

Evia says, "I don't know now, perhaps I should have suggested we plant poppy fields instead of flax...."

Cruxophim erases a message from a bone-framed bulletin board.

Speaking to a pretty flower girl, Ruffelin says, "Unless yer magical flowers kin end these troubles, I thank ye, but nay."

Shinann says, "She is not new... she ran for town council."

Lylia explains, "Casiphia mentioned giving Thadston something to sleep. I know the man does not drink, as a matter of course. He shall need his resolve; drinking weakens that, depending on what the drink is, though I am certain you would know well, Casiphia, what he requires."

Hapenlok says, "I'm teasing."

Speaking to Hapenlok, Shinann says, "I am not in a teasing mood."

Casiphia says, "I'll keep watch over him for tonight."

Speaking amicably to Casiphia, Leafiara says, "Seems we're counting on you since he trusts so few others."

Hapenlok says, "At any rate..."

Balley softly says, "Ok this excitement has made me sleepy."

Casiphia says, "I will say though..."

Myasarie quietly asks, "How long have these serpents and such been plaguing the Landing?"

Casiphia says, "I know the Magister and Thad do not...."

Casiphia rubs her chin thoughtfully.

Madmountan says, "If he stops breathin', just whack 'im in the diaphragm."

Casiphia asks, "Get along well?"

Lylia says, "They have their differences of opinion."

Cruxophim calmly warns, "The next person to deface the board I will find, and I will violate, and I will kill... and if I'm feeling generous, I'll do it in that order."

Casiphia says, "It's important we get one of those coffins. So if she will not do it for him, or hesitates, it's important to me."

Jiarine says, "That sounds like a date."

Speaking to Casiphia, Thrassus asks, "He isn't going to put folk with scarabs in them, is he?"

Casiphia says, "No."

Speaking to Casiphia, Hapenlok says, "I just don't think the results will be what he'll expect, if it's for who I'm thinking."

Casiphia bows.

Speaking thoughtfully to Hapenlok, Leafiara says, "At a time like this, we might have to take risks to get ahead."

Elphieya quietly says, "Deaths on north ring road."

Casiphia says, "Goodnight."

Lady Casiphia just went north.
