When CAST open, Sun Burst emits a great pulse of light from the caster's hand, causing all creatures, characters and objects hidden in the room to become unhidden. While this will not reveal invisible targets to the caster, it will make the caster aware of their presence. Objects revealed include arrows or thrown weapons.

The open-cast spell version will also subject room targets to a warding roll. When successful, living targets will be blinded, suffer a severe Perception loss of at least 85% of ranks, as well as a decreased chance to evade any incoming attacks. Undead targets will recoil from the intense burst of light, giving them roundtime. Targets that cannot see due to injury, the Blind (311) spell, or previous effects of a focused Sun Burst are immune.

When focused on a single target, Sun Burst inflicts moderate Fire damage in addition to the debuff effects applied by the open version. This damage is considered Nature damage. When the target is under the effects of Moonbeam, Sun Burst consumes the lucent energy, ending Moonbeam's immobilization effect, and inflicts moderate Plasma damage.
