Ta'Illistim is one of five city-states that make up the Elven Nations.

After the opening of the trail across the Dragonspine Mountains (via Zul Logoth) which connects the Elven Nations to the adventuring lands of Wehnimer's Landing, Solhaven, Icemule Trace and River's Rest, Ta'Illistim also became frequented by adventurers. In the case of Ta'Illistim, most of these adventurers were relatively experienced, having travelled there after gaining some skills elsewhere.

The floating dais in the southeastern portion of the city became a traditional adventurer's gathering point, with adventurers trading all sorts of skills and services there. This location was often used as a base camp for those fighting in areas such as Gossamer Valley, the Masked Hills, the Blighted Forest, Griffin's Keen, Maaghara Tower, and Old Ta'Faendryl.

To the southeast of the city, a ferry service provided transport across the Lake of Fear to Ta'Vaalor.
