Bone Shatter (1106)

Study of anatomy reveals the importance of bone structure. By utilizing this knowledge and the perceived state of need from such a mechanism for a number of living beings, empaths manipulate the bones in their target causing them to instantly, and painfully, shatter. Training in Mental Lore, Manipulation provides for a chance to completely abolish the target's bone structure, resulting in instant death.
Bone Shatter will only work on targets that have bones. Less experienced targets have a more difficult time resisting this spell. (There is a TD pushdown for lower-level empaths. For each level under 35, the creature receives a -1 point penalty to their normal Spiritual TD.)
Bone Shatter can be CHANNELed from more offensive stances and with an empty hand(s) to increase damage.
Usage
- PREP 1106 | CAST {target} or INCANT 1106 to cast this spell
- PREP 1106 | CHANNEL {target} to channel the spell for additional damage/critical strength, incurring 3 sec. of hard RT
- INCANT 1106 CHANNEL to channel this spell once using INCANT
- INCANT SET CHANNEL 1106 to always channel this spell using INCANT 1106
Bone Shatter will only work on targets that have bones. This includes the corporeal undead. For non-corporeal undead, Phase (704) or Kai's Smite can cause them to "phase in," allowing them to be vulnerable to Bone Shatter. Most insects and elemental creatures are completely immune to the spell.
Empaths training in the Trinkets subskill of Alchemy in the Empath Guild can make a slender ivory wand with 20 charges of the Bone Shatter spell in it. The wand does still have the pushdown for low-level characters, but uses the cast version of the spell instead of the channel version.
Lore Benefit
Mental Lore, Manipulation causes instant death on a seed 1 summation of [(Mental Lore, Manipulation ranks - 10) / 2], with a reduced chance if the warding margin is less than 50.

Channel Damage
Channeling adds to the effective warding margin on a successful cast based on the caster's stance and number of open hands. Casters wielding two-handed weapons such as runestaves are considered to have one open hand (as long as they are not also holding another item).

You concentrate intently on a sand devil, and a pulse of pearlescent energy ripples toward it! CS: +235 - TD: +185 + CvA: +25 + d100: +63 == +138 Warding failed! The internal skeletal structure of a sand devil implodes inward upon itself, leaving behind no support for its body or life. The sand devil falls to the ground in a lifeless mass of flesh and fractured bones.
