Charlatos 23-24, 5122

by Leafiara Autumnwind of the TownCrier

Summary

Regional Envoy Cordarius takes to Hearthstone to hear updates from Landing defenders on the krolvin situation. After having coordinated with Ayred for help in dealing with their portals, he gets further explanation from Magister Raelee on how to keep the portals opened with magical wedges. Councilors Leafiara and Pukk say that they (along with the other Councilors Chandrellia and Fahlo) received letters ostensibly from Tyrrax containing severed toes and a warning to be taken seriously, though Knuckleheads Pookia and Sevanya contend that the writing doesn't come across as written by him.

With only two days until the Eve of the Huntress, however, there's little time to consider--much less investigate--who would benefit from impersonation letters, so everyone moves on to formulate the basic plan. As details from Raelee and Vaemyr raise questions over how the portals are created, Cordarius muses over whether it's the krolvins' own magic or trinkets. The Knuckleheads relay that Tyrrax was wearing at least eight gold rings and said he possessed Fortney's treasures and trinkets, so Cordarius concludes that he and Ayred will need to prepare measures against either known magic or items.

Ultimately, everyone settles on the idea of having a group of town defenders work on keeping portals to the krolvin ships aboard, at least two groups going through the portals--one for battle and another for rescue of the captive townspeople--and potentially a fourth group prepared to defend the streets and environs in the meantime.

Log

Musing in the Rain

[Town Square Central]

This is the heart of the main square of Wehnimer's Landing. The impromptu shops of the bazaar are clustered around this central gathering place, where townsfolk, travellers, and adventurers meet to talk, conspire or raise expeditions to the far-flung reaches of Elanith. At the north end, an old well, with moss-covered stones and a craggy roof, is shaded from the moonlight by a strong, robust tree. The oak is tall and straight, and it is apparent that the roots run deep. You also see a fluffy white cat, a tankard of Golden Fox mead, the Sevanya disk, the toy-stuffed Pookia disk, the Lankas disk, the Grius disk, the palm frond-shaped Leafiara disk, a rose-marrow potion, some tree bark, some tree bark, a pale-faced coppery barn owl, a slice of warm banana nut bread, a slice of warm banana nut bread, a slice of warm banana nut bread, a slice of warm banana nut bread, a slice of warm banana nut bread, a slice of warm banana nut bread, a fluffy vanilla creme donut, a round silver-banded barrel, an herbal remedy donation bin and some wide stone benches with some stuff on it.

Also here: Andromalius who is sitting, Earthdiver who is riding an emaciated black horse, Lord Bodom, Pals, Vultair, Lord Braugi, Kisun, Leafchaser, Sevanya who is sitting, Pookia who is sitting, Lankas, Grius who is sitting, Berost, Magister Raelee, Bernadette, Markx, Rybits, Lord Raeggnar who is sitting, Kiyna, Town Councilor Leafiara, Kayse, Vaemyr, Town Councilor Pukk

The sky begins to fill with huge clouds, dark and grey on the bottom, pale and white atop, their puffy crowns ascending toward the heavens.

Sevanya says, "I may be thinking a little simply but why would he say he's gonna return the townspeople in seven bags and then send us an intimidation package like a common thug."

Speaking to Kiyna, Leafiara considers, "Well... you know... that actually might be possible... but it would kill our local fishing businesses."

Sevanya exclaims, "That's more than 7 bags!"

Sevanya exclaims, "7 bags and a package is not 7 bags!!"

Vaemyr says, "Looks like a bit of storms tonight."

Pookia exclaims, "Thats eight bags!!"

Pookia exclaims, "Eight bags is not seven bags!!"

Pookia exclaims, "Wait its ten packages and a little bunch of seven bags!"

Leafiara says, "If the mayor got one of these packages, I presume we'll know soon."

Pookia says, "That still doenst make sense though."

Pookia firmly says, "Its just too many bags."

Speaking to Raelee, Vaemyr asks, "I wanted to ask, have you or any of your collegues had any luck with either preventing their portals or gaining control and keeping them open?"

Speaking to Pookia, Leafiara says, "It'll be up to you to make the case that the letter doesn't sound like him, since only you've met him face to face."

Speaking to Pukk, Kisun says, "Never say no to that.."

Pookia honestly exclaims, "Ill do my best!"

Pals says, "Invoker soon."

Leafiara says, "Of course, Thadston being Thadston, he might not hear it out."

Leafiara says, "We need Thrayzar..."

Pookia yells, "Knuckleheads for life!"

Sevanya yells, "Knuckleheads for life!!"

[General] Leafiara notes, "Looks like we have a storm coming in to the Landing again."

Stormyrain just arrived.

[various greetings]

Stormyrain says, "Everyone, I was--literally just here."

[General] Delyorik thinks, "Have fun with your storms."

Pookia exclaims, "And now you are AGAIN!"

Speaking dismissively to Stormyrain, Kayse says, "Fine."

Stormyrain slowly says, "Yes, and nothing has changed."

Speaking to Stormyrain, Vaemyr exclaims, "I didn't see you!"

Sevanya whispers something to Pookia.

Pookia whispers something to Sevanya.

Shihain says, "Wellls."

Leafiara reasons, "Well, to be fair, we've gone through about half an hour worth of conversation about how to find the formula or prove that we don't want to use it or invent a cure or--"

Leafiara says, "Well, any number of possibilities."

Shihain says, "I suppose its good night for me."

Shihain says, "Im about to pass out and dream of tarts and other stuff."

Speaking to Shihain, Pookia exclaims, "Rest well!"

Ryfte says, "Aye get some rest."

Leafiara says, "And musings over whether we even have proof the letter is from Tyrrax."

Leafiara says, "The Knuckleheads say it doesn't sound like him."

Ryfte says, "Lucrative hunt."

Pookia confidently says, "Its not from him."

Vultair asks, "Do clockwork halflings dream of tarts?"

Shihain says, "Indeed it was."

Shihain says, "And very rich hunt."

Speaking to Shihain, Ryfte asks, "Mayhaps see you on the morrow?"

Vaemyr says, "Curious... does anyone know if it's even possible to fool the current postal service? it has magical wards in place and such to prevent such a thing I thought."

Shihain says, "Yea ill be here."

Speaking to Vaemyr, Leafiara says, "They have a lot of talent with magic, though."

Leafiara says, "They meaning Tyrrax's forces."

Speaking to Vaemyr, Pookia says, "The postal service is one of the few reliable things left.."

Sevanya says, "I thought it was a stupid question to ask how Tyrrax is sending mail to our local postal service so I didn't..."

Shihain says, "And urchin runners."

Raelee says, "No wards are absolute. Bypassing them is *always* possible."

Shihain says, "Dont forget urchin runnners."

Speaking to Sevanya, Leafiara says, "I think it's a very worthwhile question."

Shihain says, "They are useful."

Leafiara says, "Especially if he's been out at sea this whole time."

Speaking to Leafiara, Vaemyr asks, "So thinking it might be someone trying to take Tyrrax's place perhaps? Anger us to get rid of him for them?"

Sevanya exclaims, "Hey you know who has guys all over town who can drop off sinister packages? Amos!"

Pookia says, "Amos."

Leafiara says, "But, of course, he could have just sent messengers via portals..."

Speaking knowingly to Sevanya, Leafiara says, "I'm well aware."

Sevanya exclaims, "Check their toes!"

Shihain exclaims, "Well good night !!"

Berost deeply asks, "We fightin er talkin?"

Speaking to Sevanya, Pookia exclaims, "Youre the smartest!"

Speaking absently to Berost, Leafiara says, "Don't know yet. Could be anything lately."

Berost deeply says, "Cuz one gets a sword in hand, tha other a pipe. Needs ta prepare yas know."

Berost deeply says, "Both, got it."

Speaking to Pookia, Sevanya exclaims, "I'm figuring stuff out! I've got a big brain!"

Speaking confidently to Berost, Leafiara says, "Prepare the sword for certain."

Vaemyr says, "Yeah so could Grishom Stone, if we wanna just talk about people who could immitate whomever."

[Realm] The invoker thinks, "Residents of Wehnimer's Landing, I am currently at Town Square, Small Park and offering spells to those in need."

Pookia whispers something to Sevanya.

Speaking to Vaemyr, Leafiara says, "Though this might be a bit beneath Grishom's level of concern."

Speaking to Raelee, Kiyna says, "A determined intruder will push past just about any defensive measure, magical or otherwise. It's a matter of time, effort, and cost at that point."

Leafiara says, "I suppose we can stop by the invoker just in case."

[does that and then returns]

Cordarius and the Portals

[General] Cordarius thinks, "Ah! A nice rain. Ushering in the change of seasons. A splendid time of year for growth."

Pukk recites:

"Last chance to join Leafiara and be on the winning team"

Leafiara mutters, "Oh, goody, one of the last people we needed to hear from."

[General] Lylia thinks, "It is a welcome change from snow."

Raelee takes a slow, deep breath then pinches the bridge of her nose.

Pukk says, "Cordarius."

Leafiara groans, "Cordarius."

Monthas asks, "Winning team for what?"

Pookia says, "Great another thing that makes me nervous, weather."

Vaemyr whispers something to Leafiara.

Pukk recites:

"I change that. We are doomed"

Pookia says, "Oh."

Monthas says, "Eww its raining."

Berost deeply says, "Pipe it is."

Sevanya says, "Oh, how exciting."

Monthas says, "I am going to melt."

Berost deeply says, "That silly man taaaaaaaallllllks ..."

Vaemyr says, "Maybe Cordarius has an idea about the portals..."

Leafiara tiredly relents, "To be fair, he might have news on how to prevent the portals."

Speaking to Leafiara, Kisun asks, "Make the Landing a no fly zone?"

Speaking to Leafiara, Pukk asks, "Trying to find a bright side eh?"

Speaking to himself, Kisun says, "Someone better tell that dragon.."

Pookia says, "This guy sounds like hes gonna make my eyes cross."

Bernadette softly says, "But deh dragon still flies over."

[General] Leafiara dryly asks, "Yes, well, maybe so if we weren't beset by a war fleet. Do you have any good news for us?"

[General] Cordarius thinks, "I'll be at the porch. Where, you know, we can see the rain, smell the rain, but not wear the rain."

Leafiara says, "Moving to Hearthstone shortly."

Leafiara says, "Five seconds..."

Leafiara says, "Meet us there if not joined."

Leafiara says, "It's due north from North Gate."

[General] Berost thinks, "I kin bring a bucket, will get ya water. Wear tha rain. Good fer tha soul."

[Hearthstone, Front Porch]

Airy and open, the porch is enclosed by smooth, freshly painted white modwir up to a height of about four feet. As you ponder the sky-blue color of the ceiling and a lacework of deep green ivy that crisscrosses the open space between posts, the hubbub of the world beyond quickly fades away. Rocking chairs of various sizes are an inviting sight, and an elegant green marble arch provides a tantalizing view of the splendors inside the old manor. You also see the earth brown Monthas disk, the porch steps, a purple modwir bin, a scorched oak sideboard with some stuff on it and a doorman.

Also here: Great Lord Monthas, Magister Raelee, Magister Cordarius who is sitting

Kiyna, Pookia, Pukk, Kisun, Berost, Vaemyr, Sevanya, Bernadette, Stormyrain and Kayse followed.

Pookia exclaims, "What kinda person hates getting wet!"

Speaking to Cordarius, Vaemyr says, "Good to see you again, been awhile."

Monthas says, "This one."

Speaking to Pookia, Leafiara says, "This man here."

Lylia says, "Good evening."

Cordarius says, "I mean, don't get me wrong, it's a welcome thing once in awhile."

Cordarius says, "If the mood is right, if the company is pleasant..."

Cordarius winks.

Speaking to Cordarius, Lylia asks, "Rain, or war?"

Cordarius says, "I suppose both."

Cordarius smirks at Lylia.

Lylia says, "Just so."

Speaking to Cordarius, Vaemyr says, "Well... tis not bad I guess... but these are a bit stressful and somber times when we're on a clock with no answers on how to solve the problem."

Cordarius gives a slight flick of his wrist, and a crisp green apple suddenly appears in his hand!

Pookia whispers something to Sevanya.

Speaking to Cordarius, Leafiara sighs, "Do you have helpful information? Helpful anything at all other than apples?"

Sevanya whispers something to Pookia.

Cordarius takes a bite of his green apple.

Speaking to Cordarius, Vaemyr asks, "Preferably a way to either A, track them, or B hijack their portals?"

Pookia whispers something to Sevanya.

Cordarius says, "I heard you, well, some of you, have been molding your minds to talk about the krol's portals."

Sevanya whispers something to Pookia.

Lylia dryly observes, "While we are about it, you may want to neutralize the one who is popping people's skulls like grapes."

Cordarius says, "I even chatted with my old pal Ayred....well, not really chatted, since his mouth is sewn shut, but, I kept him up to speed as well."

Cordarius asks, "So let's talk! What're your ideas? Wiith the portals?"

Speaking to Cordarius, Raelee says, "A method to proverbially wedge them open."

Speaking to Cordarius, Raelee says, "... a literal wedge, mithril or otherwise, is likely impractical."

Cordarius nods.

Cordarius says, "I was pondering the same thing."

Raelee says, "And thus the method likely needs to be built around opposing elemental energies being sent back through them."

Pookia whispers something to Sevanya.

Sidebar on the Ultimatum

Cordarius says, "I've heard a bit of talk, about the warlord's threat."

Vaemyr says, "Some type of device that could sustain the portal and prevent it from closing perhaps."

Raelee continues, "... there will be some delicacy to the balance. Too little is likely to be ineffective, too much might be... somewhat reactive."

Cordarius says, "We've got a few nights left until we get our first bag of flesh."

Leafiara says, "Two, to be precise."

Cordarius nods at Raelee.

Stormyrain says, "Incorrect."

Pookia says, "Two isnt a few."

Leafiara says, "Though we've already received some flesh."

Pookia exclaims, "And we have toes!"

Xorus says, "Seven sacks. One more sack than was sent back to Empress Geleena. The Wyvern is serious."

Cordarius says, "In some circles, it is."

Cordarius nods at Pookia.

Leafiara says, "At very least the councilors have. I wouldn't be surprised if Thadston has as well."

Pukk says, "Tyrrax as a toe fetish it seems."

Cordarius asks, "He sent toes?"

Leafiara says, "As Pookia here says, we were mailed severed toes and a letter claiming to be from Tyrrax."

Pukk nods.

Leafiara removes a thick salt-stained package from in her cherry red cloak.

Pookia says, "Someone has a toe fetish."

Pukk removes a thick salt-stained package from in his dark leather cloak.

Leafiara offers Cordarius a thick salt-stained package.

Cordarius accepts Leafiara's salt-stained package.

Speaking dryly to Cordarius, Leafiara says, "Have a look."

Lylia asks, "Truly? Then this warlord is not true to his word either, already beginning the dismemberments?"

Pukk shows Cordarius his salt-stained package.

Pookia says, "But those toes didnt come from tyraxx."

Pukk put a thick salt-stained package in his dark leather cloak.

Cordarius gags.

Pookia exclaims, "Ive spoken with him, his words are like flowers, the letter reads like dung! its dung writing!"

Leafiara says, "Having said that, the Knuckleheads say... well, better if they express it themselves, I suppose."

Speaking to Lylia, Stormyrain says, "Not that I expected a krolvin Warlord to be true to his word, but--how rude."

Cordarius offers Leafiara a thick salt-stained package.

Leafiara accepts Cordarius's salt-stained package.

Pookia exclaims, "He cant even write a straight sentence!"

Leafiara put a thick salt-stained package in her cherry red cloak.

Kiyna says, "The knuckleheads say the letter doesn't sound like him."

Xorus says, "Pranksters."

Lylia says, "Writing and speaking are two separate skills. However, they often overlap. You have a point."

Kayse dryly mutters, "One way to say it."

Leafiara says, "It does strike a bit odd to give an ultimatum and then violate it within a day, by any standards."

Cordarius takes a bite of his green apple.

Pookia confidently exclaims, "We talked to him for a good while and i spoke things back to you all word for word, he wasnt barking and slobbering and half spitting sentences!"

Lylia says, "Especially as he has a vested interest in maintaining some degree of communication."

Leafiara says, "Unfortunately, loresinging didn't turn up any information on the letters nor toes."

Vaemyr says, "Honestly I don't think it matters, we still have that ultimatum, and we only have two days."

Cordarius says, "It is a bit rash."

Speaking pragmatically to Vaemyr, Leafiara says, "I'm with you, actually."

Cordarius says, "But, he is a krolvin. Let's remember."

Stormyrain asks, "So then the question is how did whoever this is manage to fool the mail system wards? Did everyone's package say that it was from Tyrrax?"

Goldstr nods at Cordarius.

Pookia says, "Another one."

Speaking to Stormyrain, Leafiara says, "It did, but as the Magister was saying, no wards are foolproof."

Pookia whispers something to Sevanya.

Vaemyr says, "Either he did send the letters and he was having an off day, or trying to prove something to other krolvin, or he didn't and it's a distraction."

Sevanya says, "I would be interested to know who's trying to distract us if that's the case."

Lylia smoothly says, "Another what? Another person whose home has been subject to the depredations of slavers for decades? Imagine that."

Cordarius nods at Vaemyr.

Cordarius says, "It's possible he has to keep proving himself."

Leafiara contends, "Honestly, even if it was from him, it might be past the point of mattering. The deadline is too close before bloodshed." [OOC: I... think that's supposed to be a "wasn't," but I'm not sure enough to edit it. It makes a semblance of sense either way.]

Cordarius says, "Since Xorus just won't give us the formula already."

Leafiara says, "Either way."

Cordarius begins chuckling at Xorus!

Speaking to Stormyrain, Pukk says, "I didn't read mine. My eyes were tired...so Leafi read mine to me..so it says it was from him."

Cordarius snickers at Xorus.

Cordarius says, "I jest."

Speaking to Leafiara, Raelee says, "... and I would not exactly expect the most advanced wards on the local postal facility."

Xorus says, "More seriously. This would raise the prospect that someone is trying to manipulate a conflict between us."

Vaemyr says, "Either way the much more pressing thing is figuring out a way to get our people home."

Pookia says, "Wow i agree with xorus."

Speaking to Xorus, Leafiara acknowledges, "It's entirely possible."

Pukk says, "Everybody knows that Amos already has the recipe. So we should just send Amos to go talk to Tyrrax."

Leafiara says, "And that someone could well have been Praxopius."

Stormyrain says, "I would imagine if Amos had the recipe he'd have tried to sell it to the town by now, if I had to guess."

Stormyrain says, "Or talk about what he would trade for it."

Kayse sighs, "He doesn't have it."

Speaking to Stormyrain, Vaemyr says, "He'd of definitately sold it by now."

Stormyrain says, "Or..a thousand other ways he could benefit. Including even just offering it up in order to garner himself favor here."

Kayse says, "I spoke to him about it."

Cordarius says, "Amos is to the south right now, it would certainly be nice to ask him a few questions."

Cordarius peers quizzically at Kayse.

A shadowy gloom swiftly pushes upward from the ground. When the darkness lifts, Chandrellia is standing in its place.

Cordarius asks, "You're pals with Amos now eh?"

Cordarius smirks.

Chandrellia groans.

Cordarius says, "Good luck with that."

Sevanya whispers something to Pookia.

Speaking simply to Cordarius, Kayse says, "Potential business associates."

Speaking to Cordarius, Chandrellia says, "If I had known it was just you I would have stayed in bed."

Cordarius nods.

Pookia whispers something to Sevanya.

Cordarius says, "Fair enough."

Cordarius nods at Kayse.

Leafiara says, "I still think it was Praxopius. His mode of operation was always getting other people to do his work. Brainwashing, blackmail, misdirection."

Cordarius says, "If I had known you were in bed, I'd have been there too."

Cordarius winks at Chandrellia.

Chandrellia pokes Cordarius in the ribs.

Cordarius smirks.

Speaking to Leafiara, Goldstr asks, "But from da dead?"

Speaking to Leafiara, Xorus says, "Which is exactly why he never would have announced he would send it to me in a crowd."

Speaking to Leafiara, Lylia says, "Yes, I miss him too."

Xorus says, "Unless he was lying."

Speaking to Goldstr, Leafiara says, "He had plenty of associates, including the entire White Sparrows."

Leafiara says, "Which Lady Wintersylph reminded me of recently."

Resuming the Portals

Cordarius says, "Now, let's get back to these portals."

Speaking to Xorus, Vaemyr says, "Well, unless that was just to get the focus on you, maybe even our town, while someone else actually has it."

Speaking to Cordarius, Raelee says, "Indeed."

Cordarius asks, "Is it assumed they'll use them on the Eve of the Huntress?"

Vaemyr says, "Probably, how else would they talk to us."

Leafiara says, "I'm not sure that's assumed."

Xorus says, "That was under the umbrellas of what I meant by he was lying."

Leafiara says, "The only thing he promised was to send someone back in pieces by that eve if we didn't provide the formula."

Lylia says, "It seems a reasonable surmise, but not a certainty. They did use them to good effect recently, though -- and we had few answers for them."

Speaking to Cordarius, Vaemyr says, "They will probably take a couple people, to see if Xorus will give them what they want again."

Leafiara says, "But for means of communication he could use his mentalist."

Cordarius nods.

Pookia nervously asks, "Can we convince him we dont have it before the body parts start arriving?"

Lylia says, "Yes. Kharusa."

Cordarius says, "Yes, too many variables, but we should plan for what we can."

Speaking bluntly to Cordarius, Leafiara says, "Agreed, and I do like when you finally actually get down to business and logical thinking."

Leafiara smirks.

Cordarius says, "If Ayred is able to help..wedge a portal, as you called it, who is able to provide their assistance?"

Xorus says, "When killing orphans and the like fails to move me, it stands to reason they will figure out to come for Lylia."

Cordarius grins at Leafiara.

Leafiara winks at Cordarius.

Speaking to Cordarius, Vaemyr says, "I would help with what I can."

Speaking to Cordarius, Raelee says, "... I will."

Cordarius nods at Vaemyr.

Earthdiver says, "I have opened many a portal."

Cordarius nods at Earthdiver.

Speaking to Cordarius, Chandrellia says, "I'll do what I can."

Pookia asks, "Are we going through the portals to rescue or murder?"

Cordarius exclaims, "Perfect!"

Vaemyr says, "My portals are slightly different in nature, but it's possible that will help in this."

Leafiara asks, "Elementalists and spiritualists needed for the portal, I presume, if it works on principles similar to sorcerous ones?"

Cordarius says, "We'll need to be flexible, and able to move quickly. Make sure we're portal-able..."

Speaking to Cordarius, Stormyrain asks, "Which night do you think this will be? Eve of the Huntress or will assistance be needed tomorrow night?"

Cordarius smirks.

Speaking to Cordarius, Goldstr says, "An me blade be ready fer protection."

Lylia says, "I can hardly fault your logic, but you could always say 'I can find another wife.' Of course, then I would kill you myself, and you would have no more need to concern yourself with such matters."

Lylia whispers something to Xorus.

Cordarius says, "Eve of the Huntress perhaps."

Cordarius nods at Stormyrain.

Cordarius says, "Assuming they use portals to deliver their message."

Leafiara whispers something to Pukk.

Cordarius says, "If not, we improvise."

Speaking to Cordarius, Raelee asks, "... has Ayred indicated any plan? Has he even... witnessed these portals?"

Pookia asks, "So we're just gonna let that person die?"

Speaking to Cordarius, Chandrellia says, "Well they usd them to deliver arrows to attack us...."

Cordarius says, "I think it's also safe to plan that rescuing the citizens is the top priority."

Stormyrain says, "I would be willing to aid Ayred however I may, should I be available when he is in need."

Cordarius says, "Which means, if we're successful in wedging a portal, we'll need some assigned to the rescue operation, with others working to keep the krolvin at bay."

Lylia says, "Of course I am available to lend assistance how I may."

Cordarius nods.

Cordarius shrugs at Raelee.

Lylia says, "Or keeping them at bay, whichever seems best fit."

Vaemyr says, "I assume those of us keeping the portal open, probably wouldn't be able to go inside."

Earthdiver says, "Or in the bay."

Chandrellia says, "I'll be in the rescue party incase any are in need of immeadate healing, but other healers would be great."

Cordarius says, "Ayred is a man full of rich history and flavor. Not the easiest to communicate with, but he understands when I talk to him. He hasn't seen the portals, but he nodded a lot to me."

Leafiara says, "The rescue operation will board their ships that have been rife with anti-mana traps, so I believe we'll need a rather strong force there."

Goldstr says, "Me blade has much Krol blood an lookin fer mer."

Cordarius shrugs at Vaemyr.

Raising both eyebrows slightly, Raelee regards Cordarius with an unimpressed look.

Pookia exclaims, "Knuckleheads are out for that then!"

Cordarius says, "It's a safe assumption, but unknown. Until we see for ourselves."

Vaemyr nods at Cordarius.

Cordarius nods at Vaemyr.

Vaemyr says, "Aye."

Cordarius asks, "They had anti-mana traps?"

Leafiara nods at Cordarius.

Cordarius says, "I was not aware of that."

Lylia says, "Of a sort, yes."

Chandrellia whispers aloud, "Hey Knuckleheads."

Leafiara says, "Traps to strip spells foreign to our knowledge, yes."

Speaking to Cordarius, Vaemyr says, "Similar to the field that exists in the rift."

Leafiara nods at Vaemyr.

Lylia says, "Very like the Rift, indeed."

Leafiara says, "They're quite a bit above your ordinary krolvin, magic-wise."

Cordarius nods.

Earthdiver says, "Not really a problem for me."

Cordarius says, "Yes, interesting that."

Kiyna asks, "Can we make at least a token effort to capture Kharusa alive?"

Cordarius says, "Where he learned to utilize and deploy all of this..."

Earthdiver says, "Does she want to be rescued."

Cordarius rubs his chin thoughtfully.

Speaking to Leafiara, Geijon says, "A bit."

Cordarius says, "It is curious."

Vaemyr says, "I mean top priority is certainly our citizens, but if we could capture Kharusa, maybe we could finally get some straight answers."

Kiyna says, "Assuming the mission even takes you close to her."

Speaking to Earthdiver, Lylia says, "Good question. People make all manner of assumptions because she is not krolvin, because she looks pathetic, by all accounts."

Speaking to Earthdiver, Chandrellia says, "That is a tough question to answer at this time."

Speaking carefully to Cordarius, Raelee asks, "... have you witnessed the portals?"

Cordarius says, "I saw their glow. I was not up close, no."

Bernadette softly asks, "Mebbe dey holdin her family hostage to make her does dose tings?"

Lylia asks, "Yet what if she is here to erase the minds of all those who may possibly have seen this potentially mythical formula?"

Earthdiver says, "In either a case, a rescue or kidnapping would serve."

Aeith says, "The magic stripping could be a feature of the portal magic itself, depending on how it was crafted. Perhaps they are an imperfect creation."

Cordarius asks, "What're your thoughts on them?"

Cordarius peers quizzically at Raelee.

Cordarius peers quizzically at Vaemyr.

Leafiara says, "Giving Cordarius some credit, he did invent those bane arrows that worked well."

Leafiara looks thoughtful for a moment, then shrugs.

Leafiara adds, "And the manafires."

Speaking to Bernadette, Lylia says, "At this point, either is as likely as the other. She could be more a monster than the krolvin. She could be a hostage to them."

Speaking to Earthdiver, Pookia exclaims, "A kidnapping for a kidnapping makes the whole world missing!"

Speaking to Cordarius, Vaemyr says, "They are interesting, they don't form like normal portals, the gold flects travel to a location, and then the portal opens at that location."

Cordarius says, "I have my uses."

Cordarius nods at Leafiara.

Cordarius smirks.

Leafiara nods slowly at Cordarius.

Cordarius says, "Interesting."

Speaking to Cordarius, Raelee says, "They are not that powerful. They are small, open quickly, and close quickly. There is no need to sustain them."

Cordarius glances at Vaemyr.

Earthdiver says, "Perhaps the flecks are some kind of familiar."

Xorus says, "I would warn that this Kharusa referred to the Wyvern as 'your master' when addressing her captor. It may have only been a matter of emphasis, but she did not say 'our master'."

Vaemyr nods at Raelee.

Cordarius says, "I wonder how they make them then."

Vaemyr nods at Cordarius.

Raelee says, "The motes will at least give some warning of where one might open, which will be the primary challenge - the flexibility needed to 'catch' one, so to speak."

Nature of the Portals: Knuckleheads, Report!

Cordarius asks, "Is it magic? Is it an item?"

Cordarius asks, "Is it the warlord, or another?"

Cordarius rubs his chin thoughtfully.

Earthdiver says, "It sounds like an augmented Familiar Gate process."

Raelee slowly says, "If it is a portal that does, by nature, suggest magic..."

Leafiara thoughtfully admits, "That latter one is a good question I hadn't considered."

Cordarius nods at Raelee.

Vaemyr says, "It seems to be magic, that travels to a location, perhaps it's being controled, but yes, it's similar to a familiar portal."

Speaking to Raelee, Chandrellia says, "Well, if memory serves right, they opened at least two or three in lower dragonsclaw."

Sevanya says, "I remember how he sent us back, if that helps."

Cordarius asks, "Well, if she is a slave against her will, is it really her master?"

Cordarius peers quizzically at Xorus.

Pookia exclaims, "Through the toilet!"

Speaking to Raelee, Lylia says, "Thus my suggestion of creating the appearance of a 'soft' target. It would be no guarantee, but it would make the appearance of them in a designated area easier."

Cordarius shrugs.

Speaking to Sevanya, Leafiara encourages, "It might well. Tell us."

Pookia says, "He has a bunch of gold rings on his fingers."

Pookia says, "He used them to teleport us back."

Cordarius points at Pookia.

Sevanya exclaims, "I just remembered that!"

Cordarius asks, "What did they look like?"

Speaking to Earthdiver, Vaemyr says, "Perhaps they are using something like artificial familiars, that disapate after the portal has opened."

Pookia exclaims, "Gold!"

Lylia says, "For example, if we concenterate forces along North Ring Road, and they send their eyes to spy..."

Kiyna says, "Gold rings..."

Sevanya exclaims, "And it started glowing!"

Speaking to Pookia, Leafiara asks, "Like the Chronomage rings or different?"

Pookia exclaims, "He touched it and it started glowing really bright yellow!"

Speaking to Cordarius, Stormyrain asks, "By that logic, she would not recognize him as their master either, since the captured are also there by force, no?"

Bernadette softly says, "It has some majik innit."

Vaemyr says, "Gold rings."

Vaemyr says, "Maybe they use those as a component."

Cordarius asks, "He said she told the other krol he was their master no?"

Cordarius peers quizzically at Stormyrain.

Cordarius shrugs.

Speaking to Pookia, Kiyna asks, "And you said he did this himself? Tyrrax was the one using the portal... rings?"

Cordarius nods at Pookia.

Pookia nods vigorously!

Pookia exclaims, "He touched his ring... and hte portal happened!"

Cordarius says, "How many rings did you see?"

Pookia exclaims, "He had a bunch of rings! at least 8!"

Sevanya turns to Pookia and cheers!

Pookia flails her arms about.

Cordarius says, "Interesting."

Earthdiver asks, "So each is linked to a location, perhaps?"

Pookia whispers something to Sevanya.

Speaking to Earthdiver, Leafiara says, "Good thought."

Cordarius asks, "Is he limited then, to 8 portals at a time? If tied to the rings?"

Lylia says, "It is good you remembered this critical detail before the Eve of the Huntress."

Sevanya says, "So....does that mean one of the portals is linked to the Kobold Village toilet."

Pookia exclaims, "That means he has a toilet ring!"

Sevanya giggles at Pookia.

Pookia nods sagely.

Speaking to Pookia, Geijon asks, "Can you explain more how he looked. Pretty with purple hair you said?"

Cordarius asks, "What else did you notice about him?"

Pookia asks, "When we got back we were outside the north gate right?"

Cordarius peers quizzically at Pookia.

Speaking to Cordarius, Vaemyr says, "Perhaps, although he seemed to also be able to combine them, to make much larger portals that would stay open."

Cordarius peers quizzically at Sevanya.

Pookia says, "Really really pretty hair."

Pookia blushes and babbles a few incoherent words, looking sincerely flustered.

Speaking to Cordarius, Pukk says, "He liked his liquor."

Cordarius nods at Vaemyr.

Speaking to Cordarius, Sevanya says, "...He kidnapped us in the toilet."

Speaking to Pookia, Geijon asks, "So a blue ape with purple hair?"

Cordarius says, "But regardless, perhaps there is a limit."

Cordarius nods at Vaemyr.

Vaemyr nods at Cordarius.

Leafiara says, "So the kobold village, North Ring Road, the east side of town, the Lower Dragonsclaw, and I believe there was one on West or South Ring Road. That's only five so far, so he might have other options."

Geijon says, "They got the Knuckleheads in th' Briar patch when I was near that altar."

Pookia firmly says, "The TOILET."

Lylia says, "I know I saw at least one on South Ring Road. I cannot recall if I saw one near Shantytown itself."

Speaking to Leafiara, Chandrellia says, "Or his range of magic has a limit."

Speaking to Leafiara, Vaemyr says, "Town square as well."

Speaking to Geijon, Pookia exclaims, "It was the toilet!"

Sevanya exclaims, "It was the toilet!"

Sevanya snickers.

Speaking to Vaemyr, Leafiara says, "Ah, okay, so six locations we've seen."

Pookia cackles at Sevanya!

Cordarius says, "Our tactics change, if our opponent relies on magical trinkets, versus innate magic."

Cordarius rubs his chin thoughtfully.

Pookia exclaims, "We even tried to get the toilet to send us back!"

Pookia says, "And it didnt work."

Speaking to Pookia, Goldstr asks, "On der boat, da Loo?"

Cordarius takes a bite of his green apple.

Pookia says, "You were all... saying huge words and we just thought we could do something."

Speaking to Pookia, Leafiara agrees, "You can. And you did."

Pookia says, "But i think only the ring controls the toilet."

Cordarius asks, "Did he wear anything else of important note?"

Cordarius peers quizzically at Pookia.

Cordarius peers quizzically at Sevanya.

Speaking to Pookia, Pukk asks, "Huge words are the worst right?"

Lylia slowly says, "Perhaps we could move past the point of whether the toilet was the focus of attention."

Pookia stares at Cordarius.

Pookia ponders.

Pookia says, "He was like."

Pookia asks, "Covered in trinkets... he said he stole from people? or collected?"

Pookia ponders.

Cordarius asks, "He said that?"

Speaking to Pookia, Pukk says, "Why use big words when diminutive ones will suffice."

Speaking to Pookia, Chandrellia asks, "Did either of you see any amulets of odd nature?"

Pookia exclaims, "Oh!"

Pookia exclaims, "Amulet!"

Pookia flails her arms about.

Pukk whispers something to Lylia.

Pookia exclaims, "Gnome skull!"

Speaking to Sevanya, Geijon says, "The toilet it is. Sounds about right."

Pookia exclaims, "Tiny head skull necklace!"

Pookia exclaims, "I remember!"

Pookia pauses, glancing about expectantly. It looks as though she is waiting for applause or something.

Xorus says, "The halfling wore a petrified squirrel's head talisman."

Raelee says, "If he is utilizing rings to open the portals..."

Raelee says, "... and they are potentially stolen..."

Lylia darkly says, "Your memories are slow to return. I do not entirely trust that the halfling woman did not do anything to your minds."

Raelee asks, "... are these a form of Chronomage rings?"

Pookia asks, "Fortneys treasures?"

Pookia ponders.

Sevanya shrieks!

Pookia peers quizzically at Sevanya.

Cordarius taps his nose.

Leafiara dubiously repeats, "Fortney's treasures?"

Cordarius points at Pookia.

Sevanya exclaims, "He did mention Fortney!"

Pookia flails her arms about.

Speaking to Pookia, Pukk says, "You're it! You are his woman now."

Sevanya exclaims, "He said....Xorus would finish the work of Fortney!"

Leafiara slowly asks, "...please tell me he doesn't have a set of magical gauntlets?"

Sevanya exclaims, "That's right!!"

Pookia exclaims, "Fortneys work is to be completed!"

Pookia nods vigorously at Sevanya!

Speaking to Leafiara, Vaemyr says, "I was thinking the same thing."

Earthdiver says, "The Chronomages must know about them either way. Though they tend to only care about the long distance gates."

Speaking wryly to Vaemyr, Leafiara says, "As ever."

Xorus says, "Tell Fortney that, he has not been holding up his end."

Speaking to Leafiara, Vaemyr says, "That's how he learned about it."

Cordarius says, "We do not need a krolvin Rone."

Cordarius smirks.

Leafiara nods in agreement at Cordarius.

Speaking to Earthdiver, Pukk says, "That is what I was saying the other day."

Vaemyr says, "He has Fortney's own darn Journal I bet..."

Lylia says, "But not the one thing he seeks. According to him."

Pookia says, "No just magical rings. no gauntlets."

Leafiara says, "I guess he doesn't have gauntlets since you said you saw rings, unless he wore those over them."

Pookia says, "Sorry i didnt know my brain bank was this deep."

Sevanya says, "It's so much easier to remember critical information when you haven't been recently kidnapped I think."

Cordarius asks, "Anything else besides gold rings and a gnome skull?"

Pookia nods at Sevanya.

Cordarius peers quizzically at Sevanya.

Cordarius peers quizzically at Pookia.

Pookia stares at Cordarius.

Pukk says, "Gnome skull...."

Pookia peers quizzically at Sevanya.

Pookia is admiring herself again.

Sevanya says, "Also excuse me for asking but who's Fortney. I guess I would've thought it was more relevant if I recognized the name at all..."

Speaking to Sevanya, Vaemyr says, "Is fine, you two are doing great."

Pukk says, "Numbskull..."

Leafiara says, "Fortney was Praxopius' family name."

Sevanya says, "Oh great."

Sevanya groans.

Sevanya falls to her knees and begins to grovel with a desperate look on her face!

Sevanya stands up.

Pookia pulls Sevanya closer to herself.

Sevanya coughs.

Speaking to Sevanya, Chandrellia asks, "Did he constantly touch anyting in his hands, like a nervous twitch that would set someone at ease? like rubbing a lucky coin or someting?"

Speaking slowly to Sevanya, Leafiara says, "It's not that bad, don't worry, he's dead."

Cordarius rocks back and forth in his wooden rocking chair.

Pookia looks over at Chandrellia and shakes her head.

Pookia asks, "He was pretty... cool seeming?"

Cordarius slowly empties his lungs.

Pookia asks, "Like normal? pretty calm?"

Speaking to Pookia, Kiyna asks, "Level headed?"

Pookia shrugs nonchalantly.

Earthdiver says, "Perhaps a glamour charm...for morale."

Cordarius asks, "Are you sure the halflng woman didn't come in too?"

Sevanya says, "Pretty calm for someone with a smashed in half desk."

Lylia asks, "Cool? To the touch, you mean?"

Cordarius smirks.

Pookia nods vigorously at Kiyna!

Pookia exclaims, "Yeah for someone who cant keep their desk in one piece he was cordial!"

Lylia distantly says, "Ah."

Vaemyr whispers something to Leafiara.

Xorus says, "Someone must have made him very mad."

Speaking to Xorus, Lylia asks, "I wonder who might have done that?"

Speaking to Xorus, Kiyna says, "Yes, I wonder what happened..."

Earthdiver says, "We did sweep his army away."

Pookia says, "Also im telling you no one with hair like that can write a letter that dumb."

Pookia nods sagely.

Sevanya giggles.

Cordarius smirks at Xorus.

Speaking to Cordarius, Lylia says, "If I were you, I would be half-jealous of the attention this creature's mane has drawn."

Cordarius says, "It'll pass."

Pookia perspires delicately.

Lylia chuckles.

Cordarius says, "Hodges last forever."

Stormyrain can offer Cordarius only a blank expression.

Pookia takes a drink from her blueberry ale.

Pookia looks rather relaxed.

Pookia takes a drink from her blueberry ale.

Leafiara dryly says, "Right."

Cordarius says, "In every regard."

Cordarius winks at Stormyrain.

Pookia asks, "Who?"

Sevanya snickers.

Leafiara gets a blank lookk on her face.

Vaemyr whispers something to Leafiara.

Speaking to Pookia, Leafiara says, "Hodges is Cordarius' family name."

Leafiara murmurs, "Who knew I'd be saying *that* line twice in a night."

Pookia says, "Fancy people with their fancy extra names."

Pookia scoffs.

Cordarius smirks at Leafiara!

Sevanya exclaims, "We're educated! We're intelligent! We're dedicated!"

Leafiara chuckles.

Pookia nods vigorously at Sevanya!

Stormyrain leans against an elegant green marble arch.

Concluding Strategy

Cordarius says, "The hour is late. There's still much to do and now I've got to ponder on how we might prepare against him with two different paths in mind. Trinkets...or innate magic."

Cordarius rubs his chin thoughtfully.

Pookia cheerfully exclaims, "Trinkets!"

Chandrellia dryly says, "Or both."

Speaking to Cordarius, Vaemyr says, "I'll do what I can to prepare to help with the portals."

Lylia says, "Speaking of trinkets, the insight about the eight rings is a useful one indeed, I suspect."

Speaking to Pookia, Lylia says, "It is good that you recalled it."

Cordarius frowns at Stormyrain.

Pookia says, "You should use the rivers rest catapult to launch us onto the deck of his flagship."

Lylia says, "No need. Portals work both ways."

Cordarius says, "We'll meet again, I'll speak with Ayred, or, to Ayred. We'll be ready on the Eve of the Huntress, in the event a portal is used."

Lylia says, "Good."

Vaemyr says, "That is something at least."

Cordarius says, "But again, be prepared. We'll likely need forces to protect the portal, hold open the portal, fight our way inside, and also forces to focus on the rescue."

Leafiara says, "So a team defending the portal and one going through--" [she cut off, but looks more like four groups total]

Goldstr says, "We will be der to protect."

Xorus says, "If one of you all find yourself in his company, remind Tyrrax that he is welcome to just speak to me whenever he wishes."

Cordarius says, "Because if we take too long to clear the ship, they may just kill the prisoners."

Speaking to Cordarius, Lylia asks, "And what of their mind-flayer?"

Stormyrain says, "If they're not dead already."

Pookia exclaims, "Knuckleheads'll go wherever we're needed! especially if its not to a town meeting!"

Speaking to Xorus, Chandrellia says, "Problem is, its your mind, he wants to talk to, not you."

Speaking hopefully to Leafiara, Pukk asks, "Maybe we can trade Cordarius with the hostages?"

Cordarius asks, "The halfling?"

Cordarius peers quizzically at Lylia.

Speaking to Cordarius, Lylia says, "Or is she a problem to be solved some other night? Which, yes, could make sense. If we consider the hostages the primary goal."

Lylia nods at Cordarius.

Speaking to Pukk, Leafiara says, "I think we have better options than that if it comes to it."

Lylia says, "Yes. Kharusa."

Lylia says, "The mind-killer."

Chandrellia says, "They would be sending him back anyways and even more mad."

Cordarius says, "A problem for another time perhaps."

Lylia says, "Indeed. The first priority is to rescue the taken, then."

Lylia nods once.

Pukk says, "Since Gutstorm isn't here."

Pookia exclaims, "First priority is our neighbors!"

Sevanya exclaims, "Hooray for neighbors!"

Vaemyr says, "I mean, if we could grab Kharusa while rescuing the hostages I think that'd be great... but yes hostages first."

Cordarius nods.

Pukk gazes lovingly at Lylia.

Leafiara says, "I wouldn't position Kharusa on the same ship as captives if I were them, certainly."

Pukk says, "I feel better."

Cordarius says, "We'll need priorities, and we'll need to be okay with not accomplishing it all."

Lylia says, "It is true enough that they, not she, have a deadline to meet."

Cordarius nods at Leafiara.

Speaking to Lylia, Chandrellia says, "I'm sure if the opportinuty arrises, a group will take it."

Speaking to Pukk, Lylia says, "Fancy that. So do I."

Lylia nods at Chandrellia.

Lylia says, "Of course."

Speaking to Bernadette, Goldstr says, "Tis wha we do Protect an rescue."

Cordarius says, "It's very possible she won't even be there."

Leafiara nods at Cordarius.

Cordarius nods at Leafiara.

Speaking to Lylia, Pukk says, "I had to since Guts isn't here. That was from him."

Cordarius rocks back and forth in his wooden rocking chair.

Speaking to Pukk, Lylia says, "Yes. I thought as much."

Kiyna says, "...Obviously, if you see Tyrrax, take his hands."

Pookia quietly says, "What a weirdo."

Pookia asks, "Like in mine?"

Lylia removes a petrified dark elven hand from in her wrap.

Lylia says, "No, like this."

Speaking to Kiyna, Pukk says, "In marriage? I don't know...it's too soon..and we haven't dated..."

Lylia brushes her fingers lightly against her dark elven hand.

Cordarius takes a bite of his green apple.

Speaking to Pookia, Vaemyr says, "I think uhh more in a litteral sense."

Sevanya asks, "You carry a severed hand with you at all times?"

Cordarius offers Sevanya a crisp green apple.

Sevanya accepts Cordarius's green apple.

Speaking to Sevanya, Lylia says, "Well, yes. It belongs to Xorus."

Chandrellia offers Cordarius a crunchy red apple.

Cordarius stands up.

Cordarius accepts Chandrellia's red apple.

Speaking to Cordarius, Sevanya says, "Thank you for the apple, strange man."

Cordarius bows to Chandrellia.

Xorus says, "I was quite attached to it."

Chandrellia curtsies to Cordarius.

Cordarius says, "I'll come for it later."

Cordarius winks at Sevanya.

Speaking to Sevanya, Pukk says, "I carry a scalp."

Lylia says, "I still am quite attached to it."

Pukk removes a black dark elven scalp from in his dark leather cloak.

Sevanya gags.

Speaking to Sevanya, Leafiara says, "He's our Regional Envoy, believe it or not."

Cordarius says, "Have a good night everyone. We'll talk again soon."

Cordarius exclaims, "Oh!"

Cordarius points at Pukk.

Speaking to Cordarius, Geijon says, "He gets th' job done.."

Kayse flatly says, "Charming."

Earthdiver says, "Have a good night."

Cordarius says, "Congratulations Pukk."

Chandrellia says, "Sleep well Cordarious."

Vaemyr says, "Have a good night."

Speaking to Cordarius, Pukk exclaims, "Thanks!"

Sevanya asks, "Anyone want a strange man's apple?"

Speaking to Cordarius, Pukk asks, "Do I get a prize?"

Pookia nods vigorously at Sevanya!

Pookia exclaims, "Lets throw it in the toilet!"

Sevanya exclaims, "Down the toilet it goes!"

Speaking to Cordarius, Pukk says, "That apple looks good."

Sevanya lets out a cheer!

Pookia beams proudly at Sevanya!

Speaking to Kayse, Leafiara considers, "He's very slightly more serious than Pylasar was in the same position."

Sevanya joins Pookia's group.

Pookia waves.

Kayse glances skeptically at Leafiara.

Cordarius bows.

Magister Cordarius just went down the porch steps.
