This log and summary is from the weekly player meet up on Tuesdays at the Stumbling Pebble Bar II hosted by the Defenders of Mist Harbor on 01/11/2022 from the viewpoint of Kayse Thaellian.

Lormesta 11, 5122

Summary

  • Jaysehn asks Landrai if she is having any trouble sleeping. She admits she always has trouble sleeping and that it's nothing abnormal. Jaysehn's inquiry is due to Mist Harbor townsfolk complaining that they have been having trouble sleeping due to nightmares. Jorgarn had been mentioned it in his letters to adventurers while Greth told Jaysehn, Akenna, and Kayse one afternoon that he has been having nightmares surrounding someone he cares about.

  • It is mentioned that a young orphan named, Morlid, is also having dreams. He mentioned in them there is a fat, puffy monster with only one eye that seems to have been cut in half lurking outside his windows. The boy claims he is only having these nightmares when there is a storm. Vaemyr offers that with what the orphan has been through it is expected he would have nightmares. Alosaka suggests storms always invoke fear in children and perhaps there is no cause for alarm and is quick to blame it on overactive imaginations.

  • Jaysehn admits at first that he was ready to dismiss it as a young child's nightmare until he discloses him, Akenna, and Kayse saw a bulbous creature in the rain after speaking with Greth. The three chased it through town, but with the rain it had disappeared into the night. Akenna mentioned it was flying, swimming and misshapen. Others asked if anyone else had seen it. It was noted the trio heard a child's scream that night as well after the creature disappeared.

  • Guarrin inquires if the teeth surrounding the Isle were ever fixed. Akenna mentioned she has collected a barge full of obsidian to start the repairs, but was waiting on Ceyrin to help her and he has disappeared.

  • Darcena suggests that someone speaks to the townspeople about their dreams. Kayse adds to the documentation process suggestion and notes that anyone having dreams should be writing them down and keeping a journal. Alosaka volunteers to collect people's stories and Kiyna as well. Darcena also inquires if anyone paints or draws and Kayse hesitantly volunteers to sketch something up of the monster.

  • There is also talk about contacting a follower of Ronan to help with the townsfolks' dreams/nightmares. There is some hesitation involving any Dreamwalkers but Falvicar, Regwen, Katiesa, and Luxelle are mentioned as possibly candidates.

  • Jaysehn also mentioned a rumor from the Iyo trader Uhlen, who gave him with a vague and cryptic warning that something was buried below the old Voln citadel ruins.

  • Jaysehnn asks Jisandra and Delindra if they wish to see where the orphans are being kept. A group travels with to see the monastery. Jaysehn also points out the citadel ruins and mentioned a few years ago he found a page that said ROT on it in blood

Trouble Sleeping?

Jaysehn whispers, "So....we need to inform the group of what we saw the other night."

You nod faintly at Jaysehn.

Jaysehn whispers, "I don't want to start a panic...so I might look to you to calm things as I explain."

You quietly whisper to Jaysehn, "All joking aside, I can assist where needed."

Jaysehn slowly empties his lungs.

Jaysehn says, "But...there was some trouble in town the other night."

(Kayse takes her cup of coffee and pushes it close to Greth.)

Delindra raises an eyebrow in Jaysehn's direction.

Jisandra peers quizzically at Jaysehn.

Speaking to Landrai, Jaysehn asks, "My Lady...may I ask an odd question?"

Speaking to Darcena, you say, "He has not been sleeping well."

You furrow your brow, probably adding a wrinkle or two in the process.

Speaking to you, Darcena asks, "Too much work?"

Guarrin gazes thoughtfully at a small plaque mounted over the bar.

Darcena peers quizzically at you.

You look at Darcena and shake your head.

Landrai softly says, "Of course."

Landrai nods at Jaysehn.

Jisandra raises an eyebrow.

You inform, "He told us the other night he is having bad dreams."

You nod at Darcena.

Darcena scowls at Greth.

Speaking to Landrai, Jaysehn says, "Jorgarn mentioned in a letter some of those who donated to the orphanage fund a lack of sleep by residents of the island. Greth here....well...you can see yourself....he's not sleeping either."

Speaking to Landrai, Jaysehn asks, "Any trouble with sleep in your abode?"

Landrai softly says, "I always have issue sleeping."

Jaysehn smiles.

Jaysehn says, "That was Akenna's answer too."

Speaking to Jaysehn, you ask, "Are you?"

Jaysehn looks over at you and shakes his head.

Jaysehn says, "None."

Landrai softly says, "I only sleep well when Talinvor is home."

You quietly whisper to Jaysehn, "Are we waiting for Akenna?"

Jaysehn whispers, "I'm going to see if she's coming...Phalyn is here."

You agree with Jaysehn.

Delegating Tasks

Darcena says, "Perhaps someone could interview some of the residents and see if there -are- any threads of commonality between the dreams."

Darcena says, "Or even between the dreamers."

Darcena ponders.

Speaking to Darcena, you say, "This is what I suggested."

You nod enthusiastically at Darcena!

Speaking to Darcena, Jaysehn says, "Good...you get Greth."

Jaysehn points at Greth.

Darcena says, "Ah, no. I am not doing any work."

Darcena says, "My plate is full."

Jaysehn says, "Well. I'm not getting growled at."

Speaking to Jaysehn, you offer, "I can ask questions, it is what I do."

Darcena amusedly says, "I am certain that Greth will not growl at anyone."

Darcena steadily warns, "And if he does, I can certainly be called in to growl right back."

Evii giggles softly at Darcena.

Alosaka says, "I have collected stories before, in the Landing. I will be happy to do so again here."

You reason, "But we should tell them all to write these visions or dreams down."

Darcena mutters, "Wouldn't be the first time I've had to browbeat him to be sensible."

Darcena folds her arms over her chest.

Kiyna says, "I wouldn't mind bandying words with locals. That I could do."

Jaysehn nods at Alosaka.

Cryheart grins at Darcena.

Jaysehn nods at Kiyna.

Darcena nods slowly at Alosaka.

Darcena asks, "Perhaps you two could work together?"

Darcena glances between Kiyna and Alosaka.

You furrow your brow, probably adding a wrinkle or two in the process.

Akenna says, "I would just be careful, some people find their dreams to be...personal."

Speaking to you, Darcena asks, "And perhaps you?"

Darcena cocks her head.

Kiyna nods.

Alosaka nods respectfully.

Darcena asks, "I wonder... Do we have an artist here?"

Darcena asks, "Someone who sketches?"

Darcena casually glances around the room.

Darcena asks, "Or paints?"

Speaking to Jaysehn, Vaemyr says, "I might try and track down one of the people who've seen these nightmares, If they are magical in nature I might can recognize some of the side effects."

You shift your weight.

Speaking to Darcena, Alosaka says, "Poorly."

Obelin sheepishly admits, "There do seem to be some sketchy characters."

Delindra ponders.

Speaking to Vaemyr, Jaysehn says, "The boy has a father still."

Speaking amusedly to Alosaka, Darcena says, "I'd prefer someone who does so well."

You remove a thin cloth-bound notebook from in your oval vanity case.

Vaemyr nods at Jaysehn.

You carefully open your cloth-bound notebook, revealing the smooth pages of vellum within.

Speaking to Vaemyr, Jaysehn says, "He might be good to try to track down. Didn't get a name though."

Alosaka grins.

You turn to the next page of your notebook. You're now on page 3.

Darcena says, "Someone who could work with Kayse, Akenna, and Jaysehn to create a sketch or painting of the creature they saw."

The page, written in Common, reads as follows:

Large brush strokes create floors of dark brown checkered marble that stretch along the expansive chamber. Shaded browns and blacks create walls of polished earth that rise up to encompass the area in earthen solitude. Russet and orange palletes blend to make stone constructs, a mix of clay and stone, stand like silent sentries along the cavern. The center of the room is spacious, but the outer walls are cluttered with dozens of crates, boxes and blocks of granite. Suspending from the ceiling are rows of crystal-like spheres that are painted an aqua blue. To the corner of the painting, a large crystalline coffin sits along a sturdy stone workbench and a huge black stone dais.

Kiyna says, "I've a particular kinship with the urchins and the homeless. Got a lot in common. I could start there."

Darcena looks thoughtfully at you.

Speaking to Kiyna, Jaysehn says, "I can show you where we have the orphans housed."

Speaking to Darcena, Jisandra murmurs, "That is a good idea."

Ordim nervously giggles.

You show Darcena your cloth-bound notebook.

Kiyna nods at Jaysehn.

Speaking to you, Darcena says, "That is ... well. Striking for all the reasons you are aware of. But also nicely done."

Yukito signals, "I'm having a hard time following.. so.. there is an actual creature causing bad dreams of some kind... associated with the storms in some way? In a nutshell?"

Speaking to you, Darcena asks, "Would you create a sketch for us?"

Jisandra adopts an agreeable expression.

You hesitantly say, "I am unsure what we saw.... it is not like anything I've seen before."

Arenglae signals, "Mass hysteria, more like."

Darcena says, "Perhaps if you talk it over with someone else here, they might be able to help you recollect."

Darcena shrugs slightly.

Akenna says, "It was unusual, for certain...rather bulbus."

Ordim signals, "Perhaps, I think I've picked up that the town is having bad dreams. In talking to some of hte dreamers, the militia got themselves all excited and started seeing monsters in the dark."

Speaking to Darcena, you say, "I might need to see it again, which is asking a lot."

You chuckle.

Darcena nods slowly to you.
