Synopsis

Landing citizens amass outside of Moot Hall, complaining about Mayor Thadston being away while the imps take over. They share concerns and fears about their livelihood, loss of freedom, overthrow of the government, increased monster attacks, prices being undercut, additional Imperial taxes, Earl Jovery taking control of the Order of the Silver Gryphon, and more.

Town Councilors Kayse, Kiyna, and Vaemyr advise a measure of caution until more is known, field questions about lines that can't be crossed without pushback or even open battle, and say that they're working on legislation to guard against overreach; however, Town Councilor Pookia concurs that the voiced fears are exactly what she's worried about too.

As the crowd disperses after a couple hours of back and forth, some express feeling relief over lines in the sand, others are more skeptical or remain worried, and still others say they'll defend town from the rooftops and alleys if it comes to that.

Idle Talk in the Snow

[Town Square Central]

This is the heart of the main square of Wehnimer's Landing. The impromptu shops of the bazaar are clustered around this central gathering place, where townsfolk, travellers, and adventurers meet to talk, conspire or raise expeditions to the far-flung reaches of Elanith. At the north end, an old well, with moss-covered stones and a craggy roof, is shaded from the moonlight by a strong, robust tree. The oak is tall and straight, and it is apparent that the roots run deep. You also see a well-worn dark grey prayerbook hovering around with its glistening translucent black wings, the Awsibey disk, the Lokhem disk, the flaming Nairena disk, an air wyrdling, the Asben disk, a calico-dotted white magnum opus flying around with its feathery wings, the discordant Tikba disk, a pale-faced coppery barn owl, a solid moonstone cube, a ruby-inlaid eelskin grimoire flying around with its feathery wings, some wide stone benches with some stuff on it, an herbal remedy donation bin and a round silver-banded barrel.

Also here: Event Planner Leafiara, Futz, Ulfwine, Great Lord Awsibey, Wraithboern, Town Councilor Kayse who is kneeling, Lokhem, Alexandrov, Lady Nairena who is sitting, Markx, Asben, Dumple, Lady Selucia, Tikba, High Lord Irval

Missoni cheerfully greets, "Fair eve."

Leafiara excitedly greets, "Gooooood evening Wehnimer's Landing, Town! Square! Central!"

Lokhem huskily asks, "Whats going on the rest of the evening?"

Speaking excitedly to Lokhem, Leafiara exclaims, "Who knows!"

Missoni happily says, "It is snowing."

Tikba says, "Snow, it seems."

Speaking to Leafiara, Pukk says, "Well good evening to you too."

Speaking to Tikba, Leafiara corrects, "Ah, right you are! It's not 'who knows,' but 'who snows'!"

Missoni says, "Just when we needed a dusting to freshen up the rooftops."

Speaking pleasedly to Pukk, Leafiara claims, "Oh, I'm in rare form tonight."

Pukk says, "I see."

Speaking to Leafiara, Pukk asks, "Did you get some new shackles?"

Speaking amusedly to Pukk, Leafiara says, "Well... not in the past month."

Gretzil says, "Much appreciated."

Pukk asks, "Are we all joining Kayse?"

Speaking amusedly to Pukk, Leafiara exclaims, "You tell us!"

Nairena asks, "Whats happening?"

Pukk asks, "Is Kayse the new Cryheart?"

Leafiara yells, "Cryheart! The people are growing restless without you!"

Nairena asks, "Is that the Bad SNow?"

Some townspeople can be heard nearby, passing along streets as they grumble and gossip amongst each other.

Pukk recites:

"Everybody join Kayse!"

Sir Cryheart's group just arrived.

Speaking brightly to Kayse, Leafiara greets, "New Cryheart!"

Speaking to Cryheart, Pukk says, "You're too late."

Speaking amusedly to Cryheart, Leafiara greets, "Old Cryheart!"

Avalera asks, "What was wrong with hte old one?"

Speaking to Cryheart, Pukk says, "Kayse is the new Cryheart."

Cryheart asks, "Errr..what?"

Nordred asks, "More than one?"

Cryheart says, "Oh."

Speaking politely to Thum, Tikba says, "You dropped some coins."

Speaking to Tikba, Thum says, "It's the nature of my existence."

Speaking happily to Yardie, Leafiara says, "Yardie! Wanted to thank you for the other night. The trolls and stone sentinels and krynches are revolting against the Empire, but the kobolds are being more cautious and no doubt it's thanks to your sound advice."

Vaemyr says, "Evening all."

Pukk recites:

"Everybody join Kayse!

Teach that Cryheart a lesson for being late!"

Cryheart says, "I was south of here."

Missoni says, "Sir Cryheart is never late! The snowflakes are early."

Speaking to Cryheart, Pukk says, "That is what you get for being in the wrong area."

Speaking amusedly to Cryheart, Kayse says, "They could have picked a more opposite person to be the new you."

Speaking to Cryheart, Pukk exclaims, "You sir have been demoted!"

Cryheart says, "Avalera and I overheard some grumbling citizens as we came through the gate."

Missoni asks, "What were they grumbling about, do you suppose? The price of cheese?"

Leafiara amusedly asks, "What are they ever grumbling about?"

Pukk recites:

"Everybody join Kayse!

Join the revolution!"

The coppery barn owl moves closer to Kayse.

Speaking curiously to Pukk, Leafiara inquires, "What are we revolutionizing?"

Vaemyr says, "Well... I suspect these gumbles might have something to do with a certain missive, maybe some of the boulders still sitting in town."

Speaking to Leafiara, Pukk says, "I haven't figured that part out yet."

Speaking to Vaemyr, Kayse offers, "They could be complaining about anything."

Ulfwine asks, "I was away when the boulders came- how did they get here?"

Tayler says, "Trolls threw them."

Speaking to Ulfwine, Kiyna says, "They were hurled by Illoke."

Speaking to Ulfwine, Leafiara says, "The krynches and stone sentinels and others hosted a revolt."

Cryheart says, "Winter seems early."

Speaking vaguely to Ulfwine, Leafiara says, "Some warlord or other form of leader named 'Gnul'."

Ulfwine says, "How very nice of them."

Kayse whispers something to Drazaa.

Speaking to Ulfwine, Leafiara says, "Dendum had a great idea to put up signs to point them in the right direction of where to throw their rocks."

Commence Complaints

Some grumbling townspeople begin to gather outside of Moot Hall.

Cryheart says, "Moving."

Sir Cryheart's group just went east.

Town Councilor Kayse's group just went east.

[Town Square, East]

Here in the center of a broad plaza near the commercial area of the bazaar stands the impressive facade of the slate-roofed Moot Hall, where the citizens of Wehnimer's Landing hold various official, religious and social functions. Facing the square are some of the town's more prosperous shops, still doing business with the many customers who still frequent the streets at night. You also see a lazy wild silver-grey dog, the Kelfyr disk, an animated flayed gigas disciple, a grizzled porcupine, some gathered townspeople, an ivy-covered white monir tower, a large purple wooden barrel and the Moot Hall.

Ulfwine says, "The mob is forming."

Speaking to Kayse, Pukk says, "Cryheart beat us....."

Speaking to some gathered townspeople, Vaemyr says, "Good evening everyone."

Speaking thoughtfully to Cryheart, Leafiara considers, "You got here faster than New Cryheart, so I'm joining you instead."

A townperson says, "Where's our Mayor? Is he just going to run and hide while the imps take over?"

Missoni happily says, "Ziggy."

Nairena exclaims, "Yeah!"

Speaking amusedly to Pukk, Leafiara says, "You don't have to throw your voice to get your point across."

Avalera asks, "There's imps now?"

Speaking to some gathered townspeople, Kayse reasons, "Perhaps he has a good reason to be gone."

Speaking quietly to himself, Perigourd says, "This will be fun to listen to."

Speaking to Missoni, Tayler says, "He's never far behind."

A townperson says, "There will be!"

A townperson says, "A good reason? What good reason could that be?"

Cryheart says, "Good evening, Magister Raelee."

Speaking to some gathered townspeople, Tayler asks, "Dietary... troubles?"

Another townsperson says, "Maybe they'll claim we're free....and just tax us on everything..."

Kayse diplomatically says, "I am sure we will find out once he returns."

Kayse nods to some gathered townspeople.

Speaking to some gathered townspeople, Kiyna announces, "According to our information, the Mayor will be back soon. I can't promise anything, though."

Missoni reasonably says, "Surely you are left in the good hands of a capable council."

Speaking to some gathered townspeople, Vaemyr says, "I can assure you that Imperials will not be "taking over" our town, even if they are closer neighbors. Trust your councilors to do right by you all."

Avalera says, "Undoubtedly they will tax the cheese."

(Pukk blends in with the towspeople and chants, "Down with the imps! Down with the imps!")

Pukk finds the townspeople agreeable.

A townperson says, "Yeah, we just elected you Kiyna, figures you can't do anything..."

Nairena says, "Maybe the mayor is living a double life."

A townperson says, "Titles are like crutches, they just cripple you I guess..."

Cryheart says, "Hey, dinnae blame the council."

Tikba mildly says, "The Empire cannot tax the Landing. We are a free city."

Nairena says, "Thadston the mayor."

Kelfyr says, "For now."

A townperson says, "The last council would have been on the rooftops already, arrows ready to fire...."

Tikba says, "I trust we will remain one."

Guarrin reminds, "It is a protectorate."

One townsperson says, "That's not fair...."

Nairena says, "And Thadeana the.."

Speaking to some gathered townspeople, Pukk says, "Well I wouldn't go that far. Kiyna is good people."

Speaking to some gathered townspeople, Ulfwine asks, "'keep it civil, please?"

Avalera says, "But it's accurate."

Missoni firmly says, "The council has been working tirelessly as far as I have seen."

Vaemyr says, "Doing things like that, is the way we lose our freedom."

Vaemyr says, "Unprovoked attacks are a terrible idea in this situation."

Nairena says, "Just incase."

A different townspersonsays, "Who is going to protect us? Like, our freedoms? it's only a matter of time until they want more...and more..."

Kayse evenly says, "We are waiting to receive more information before addressing the issue and reacting. Nothing has happened yet so we as a town will act accordingly once we have more to go off of."

Cryheart says, "Dinae ye angst get to ye."

Speaking to some gathered townspeople, Perigourd says, "You're assuming that you'd have any less freedom, even if they did annex the town."

Perigourd says, "Which isn't the case."

Speaking to Cryheart, Yardie says, "Just looking. I'm tempted to keep my hands clean on this....but they do make a point. I fear greed never ends."

A townperson says, "Act accordingly...and what does that look like?"

Speaking to some gathered townspeople, Pukk exclaims, "It's Yardie's fault! There he is! Get him!"

Awsibey quietly says, "Apparently it looks like sitting around and waiting."

Cryheart says, "Perhaps nae getting locked up."

A townperson says, "If they want to infringe on our freedoms, then what? What is act accordingly?"

Cryheart says, "Let us find out what is going to actually be."

Speaking measuredly to some gathered townspeople, Kayse says, "As a town, we will decide what that looks like. I am only one voice."

Speaking to some gathered townspeople, Vaemyr says, "If it comes to it, that they wish to take our town, then I believe you will find many of us "up on the rooftops" as you put it. The town will always be free, or there will be no Wehnimer's Landing."

One of the townspeople says, "The Gryphons won't let them take us over. We will just have new neighbors to do business with."

A townperson says, "You believe that?"

Cryheart says, "Aye."

Cryheart says, "More trade perhaps."

Goldstr exclaims, "Ayep!"

Vaemyr says, "But look at how well our relations with Hendor and Bourthe have been the past several years, what makes anyone think that this would be any different."

Speaking to Vaemyr, Yardie asks, "Cutting to the chase, no?"

Cryheart says, "Let your worries go, wait until we cross that bridge."

Speaking in Faendryl, the voice of Thrassus sarcastically says something you don't understand.

Speaking to some gathered townspeople, Ulfwine asks, ""Are the people of the empire not free?"

Vaemyr whispers something to Leafiara.

A townperson says, "We don't even know who this Baron person will be, and they're claiming new lands...Hendor and Bourth never tried to take land."

Yardie says, "Thrassus...behave."

Speaking to Yardie, Missoni says, "Good luck."

Another townsperson says, "Well, Hendor did build an outpost..."

A townperson says, "Yeah but, not the same."

Nairena says, "This is true."

Raelee suddenly fades into view.

Tikba asks, "Was it not?"

Kelfyr says, "Rivers swell in their channels day by day until they break into new paths."

Vaemyr says, "Exactly, we don't know whom the Baron will be, I hope everyone can remain calm until we do meet them, and know if we even have to worry."

Cryheart says, "And that Outpost holds Hendor knights who hae come to aid us in the past."

A townperson says, "Oh look, another imp." He sneers at Raelee. "You probably asked them to come here."

Missoni says, "Baron or Baroness."

Guarrin says, "That is a fair point, however, I would remind you that the Order is recognized within the Empire. Our oath is first to the defense of the Landing."

Kelfyr says, "The rushing tide of empire is taking another step closer to these shores."

Another townsperson says, "Don't be rude."

Cryheart says, "Dinnae."

Nairena says, "I would assume the new baron would be a noble of sorts from The Landing area."

Speaking to some gathered townspeople, Yardie asks, "Rather unfair to blame the Magister. A bit of decorum, no?"

(Raelee gives the gathered crowd an unimpressed look.)

Guarrin says, "Where we have spent the better part of the last almost thirty years defending the people."

Guarrin says, "Founded, by Sir Maldon, an Imperial."

Cryheart says, "Aye."

Nairena says, "Who better to understand the town they lived in."

A townperson says, "What if they claim the Gryphons? And that Early guy makes them swear a new oath to the Baron of Darkstone? Then what? We lose our knights!"

Guarrin says, "Not all of the Order is sworn to Earl Jovery."

Another townsperson says, "We have the Rooks...."

Mauss curiously asks, "Did I miss somethin' a minute er two ago?"

Cryheart says, "Tis the unknown but dinnae let fear take ye hearts."

Speaking steadily to some gathered townspeople, Kayse says, "Many of these 'imps' present help protect our palisades. It is one thing to voice your opinions, keep the snide and unproductive remarks to a minimum."

Kiyna says, "I understand the uncertainty isn't pleasant, but there's nothing anyone can do right now. Even if the Mayor were here, he would have to wait for the Empire's diplomats to arrive, the same as us."

Raelee dryly mutters, "Ask them to come here. I ask for a transfer to the other side of the Empire on the regular."

Speaking to Daratrine, Yardie says, "Paranoid."

A townperson says, "Well, now we are the other side of the Empire soon Magister, so there you go!"

Raelee says, "You have a peculiar command of relative geography..."

Cryheart says, "The Magister is able to stay."

Speaking to some gathered townspeople, Goldstr exclaims, "Ye will nae ever lose dis knight!"

Guarrin says, "I would suggest putting your trust in the council and see what the mayor says."

A townperson says, "What will our crest be? A warcat with a dagger in its back on a field of blood?"

Some in the crowd chuckle.

The voice of Thrassus asks, "The same Rooks who stole plinite from the Imperials then stored it quite unsafely under your very feet?"

Nairena says, "Not a bad idea."

Speaking wryly to some gathered townspeople, Kayse says, "Sure, we can vote on it."

Pookia just arrived.

Speaking to some gathered townspeople, Vaemyr says, "Also, will the Darkstone Bay Consortium, many of our merchants are united, we will have better leverage with negotiations for trade, don't assume that this needs to come to bloodshed."

Cryheart says, "Good point,Thrassus."

Speaking amiably to Pookia, Leafiara says, "Ah, there's the last of our council."

A townperson says, "Might as well vote on it. We sure as hell didn't get a vote on this."

Vaemyr says, "It could be that this is very profitable for our town."

Pookia exclaims, "Im done eating!"

Pookia belches.

Speaking to some gathered townspeople, Yardie says, "I think you should put your trust on the Council that was elected. Let the process play out before everyone frets."

A townperson says, "Profitable for who?"

Some townspeople say, "Not us!"

Perigourd says, "I wasn't aware the Landing inhabited Darkstone Castle, or the other lands outside the palisade walls."

Vaemyr asks, "Why not you?"

Mourdeyan says, "Indeed."

Speaking to some gathered townspeople, Xess asks, "Good people of Landing, are we gathering a defense? Are we coming together to prepare for an uncertain future? Have we not bled enough for you? Why not let us bleed just a bit more?"

Speaking to Perigourd, Guarrin says, "Indeed."

Tikba mildly says, "As Kayse says, many here have fought to protect the freedom of the Landing."

Speaking calmly to some gathered townspeople, Kayse repeats, "Once again, we will work with the information we have once we receive more. Running into battle without a plan is ridiculous."

Vaemyr asks, "Are better access to cheaper and more goods, not bad for any of you all?"

Speaking to Perigourd, Yardie asks, "I mean, if they want Sheruvians and massive troll kings as cupbearers, that's...their prerogative?"

Some begin to whisper in the crowd about Kayse preparing to do battle with the imperials.

(Pukk tries to blend his voice in with the townspeople and says, "It's that Amos! He brought this upon us!")

Nairena says, "Imagine the strategic position we would have if we cleared out the castle and turned it into a fort."

Vaemyr gives Pukk a friendly little kick.

Speaking to Vaemyr, Pukk says, "That wasn't me."

Cryheart says, "Now, dinnae spread rumors."

Nairena says, "Alas its cursed."

Speaking to some gathered townspeople, Kayse mentions, "Figuratively."

Speaking to Nairena, Kiyna says, "There's the issue of the mana storm, as well."

Missoni says, "There is already free, untaxed trade over land with Vornavis. Nothing has changed."

Xess says, "By all means spread rumors."

Xess says, "Keeps things lively."

Cryheart says, "We understand your worry and fear."

A townperson says, "Do you?"

Cryheart says, "Aye, ye are freely expressing it now."

Perigourd says, "Considering some of us fought Jantalar to preserve this very town, yes, we do."

Xess says, "We fell to them all the same, of course we do."

A townperson says, "Aren't you worried?"

Xess says, "I was terrified when I ran to the west gate."

Xess says, "I was scared when my corpse hit the ground."

Cryheart says, "Nae."

The voice of Thrassus says, "Not particularly, no."

Cryheart shakes his head.

Pookia exclaims, "Worried we'll get attacked at any minute by people who claim to be friendly, kinda constantly yeah!"

Tikba says, "We will know the new Baron soon."

Pukk says, "Well we have to give Thadston some credit too you know. He kept the town carpenters working replacing all the chairs he breaks. So you know, there is that."

Yardie says, "Nothing wrong with worry, but it's better to go in with as much information as you can and make a good decision from there."

Xess says, "I just wanted some ale but the defensive line collapsed."

Guarrin says, "Worrying gains you nothing."

Brisca asks, "Serves me right for going out of town. What did I miss?"

Xess says, "I still chose to fight."

Kiyna says, "For my part, of course I'm worried. But you all elected me, so staying calm is the least I can do. I'm working out with my fellow councilors how to respond to this."

Cryheart says, "This town has survived for a long time."

Kelfyr says, "Worrying gains you preparation for inevitabilities."

Speaking to Kiyna, Yardie confesses, "You're remarkable, you know that?"

Livelihood Concerns

A townperson says, "My family will go broke...I can't compete with imperial ships this close on the bay...they'll undercut me left and right..."

Speaking to Yardie, Kiyna says, "I could do with being a lot more remarkable, it seems."

Tayler says, "The trade concerns are valid concerns, perhaps the roadways will be safer and you can move more cargo via land freight."

Speaking to Kiyna, Yardie says, "This'll do."

Xess says, "Land freight is pretty awful."

A townperson says, "So change my entire way of business..."

Cryheart says, "The town council and business leaders will provide council."

Another townsperson says, "Change isn't always bad Jacob."

Tayler says, "Unfortunately you must adapt, sometimes."

Speaking to some gathered townspeople, Kayse suggests, "What if it improves business?"

Tikba says, "The Consortium may help you there."

Yardie asks, "Have they made any demands?"

Nairena says, "Adapt or move aside."

Brisca says, "New opportunities..."

Vaemyr says, "Also, I believe our shipping business will actually grow."

Xess says, "You could request support from the council."

A townperson says, "Oh, the Consortium. Let me just brand my ass with a big lion stamp now and kiss Amos's feet. No thanks!"

Yardie says, "Okay, that was funny."

Pukk exclaims, "That's the right attitude!"

Vaemyr says, "If the imperials plan on using the Locksmehr River for traversing goods, then those goods will be passing through our port here."

Kayse reasons, "Perhaps many new opportunities can come from this. Jobs, income, prosperity and growth."

Xess says, "Be sure you're drunk before hand."

Xess says, "Personal experience and what not."

Lokhem huskily says, "Thats a new one."

Vaemyr says, "That means significant increase in traffic and shipping, many opportunities for all of you."

Mauss remarks, "Does Amos even wade da river on the regular?"

Xess asks, "Can we talk about the real issue?"

Kelfyr asks, "So what you're saying is the strategic value of control of the town increases for the Empire?"

From nearby, you hear Nordred yell, "Burn it down already!"

Xess asks, "Why do you people keep losing your kids?"

A townperson says, "Imperial owned traffic and shipping. Taxed, taxed, taxed. Some of us barely make enough now. Sharing more, doesn't help us."

Drazaa whispers something to Kayse.

Kelfyr says, "I'm sure that won't be a tempting reason to renegotiate."

Xess says, "Like seriously there's an entire industry based on lost children here."

Speaking to Xess, Yardie asks, "That's everywhere. And those are your future bandits, you know?"

Monolis asks, "We here agains?"

Tikba says, "That is not how orphanages work."

Cryheart says, "Perhaps the Consortium and Council will barter for protecting our trade."

Monolis says, "Last time it didnt work out well."

Awsibey quietly says, "If only the townspeople put this much care and concern into taking care of their children."

Xess says, "I'm just saying maybe the council should start a parenting program or something."

Speaking to some gathered townspeople, Kayse says, "Right now we only have speculation of what can happen. I gurantee we will work hard as a town to protect ourselves and our way of life."

Speaking to Cryheart, Guarrin says, "I would expect them to."

Vaemyr says, "But it will come through OUR port and town, we can arrange a good deal with that traffic I believe. The consortium will help us in negotiations I assure you all. Believe in our good merchants of this town and it's prosperity."

Mourdeyan says, "They did...once."

A townperson says, "Until the Earl sweeps his arms wide again, and now instead of building a dock, they take ours..."

Nairena says, "Im not a tradesowman. I wont claim to understand how these townfolks are feeling and going thru."

Cryheart says, "Ye dinnae know that yet."

Another townsperson says, "...and our wives and children!" He snickers and others groan at him.

Guarrin asks, "If that was the Earl's interest, would he have not done so over the past twenty years?"

Goldstr says, "Mer soldiers comin in feom da wilds fer rest should bring good business."

Tayler says, "Perhaps it will go sour, but I have found great opportunities for trade within the Turamzzyrian empire. Taxes can always be... mitigated."

Yardie jokes, "I mean you can barter a certain tower. I'm sure they'll call it even."

Someone in the crowd says, "Perhaps the imperials will come, truly witness the land for what it is, and go home."

Xess says, "We can have them pass programs to support local trade."

Guarrin says, "Instead of defending the territory against Hochstib, he could have swept through then."

Mauss inquires, "Was there a new announcement, or is word gettin' around from three days ago?"

Mourdeyan asks, "Whot, a positive voice?"

Nairena says, "Perhaps."

Vaemyr says, "That is also quite the possibility."

Guarrin adds, "Or anytime since."

Kelfyr asks, "Is that how negoitations with an Empire work?"

Perigourd says, "I expect that greater familiarity with the empire will only open more ports with which to export your goods to."

Nairena exclaims, "Lets make it look like a craphole!"

A townperson says, "The Earl is old, he won't be around forever. Maybe he wants to rush through some legacy and land grab."

Speaking quietly to Nairena, Awsibey says, "Done and done."

Pookia exclaims, "We gotta rough the place up! make it look as terrible as possible!"

Kiyna says, "They are trying to claim land that is absolutely lousy with monsters. They might swiftly regret that. Who can say."

Xess says, "The Landing is the last place to try that at."

Pukk says, "That sounds like the imps alright."

Pookia quietly says, "Nows my chance to paint everything pink...."

Tikba notes, "The Imperial soldiers are here already, just outside the west gate."

Nairena says, "One look and they will be like Nope. See ya."

Speaking to some gathered townspeople, Ulfwine says, ""That is not the Earl I have lived under most of my life."

To Arms?

A townperson says, "Maybe we can arm the trolls and kobolds and help them fight back."

Tikba says, "I am sure they already know."

Leafiara glances appraisingly at Yardie.

Kelfyr says, "Oh, I think they're already armed fairly well."

Brisca says, "The kobolds will just hurt themselves."

Xess exclaims, "Or maybe you can arm yourselves and defend your land!"

Speaking to some gathered townspeople, Perigourd asks, "Do you not remember the Kobold war?"

Speaking in Faendryl, Lylia notes something you don't understand.

One of the townspeople laughs, "Where's Stephos when you need him."

Speaking to Leafiara, Yardie says, "Oh don't you start with this kobold business. Leave them alone."

Leafiara sighs, "Yeah, tell me about it."

Speaking flatly to some gathered townspeople, Kayse responds, "Prison."

Speaking to Yardie, Leafiara says, "Not you."

Perigourd says, "The vestiges of which still sit in their village."

The voice of Thrassus says, "Think of it this way, the Imperials' greater presence in the area will force them to deal with the Krolvin with a bit more vigor."

Speaking to Pookia, Pukk says, "We should just place a bunch of signs that say Landing has moved north and point the way to Icemule. Give us time."

A townperson says, "Or invite more krolvin."

Lylia says, "Or in plain Common, you do realize, do you not, that this town could have been crushed at any of a dozen points just during the last few years."

Speaking to Pookia, Pukk says, "Put the signs on the trail and the imps will fall for it."

Lylia says, "The fact that it has not happened is evidence that the Landing is worth more standing than it is as rubble."

A townperson says, "Trouble follows the Empire, whenever it raises its banners."

Xess asks, "Going to have some young adventurer out cleaning up your business only to come across a kolbold with enhanced arms?"

Tayler says, "Perhaps, but empires are not fond of leaving their trade lanes undefended."

Ulfwine asks, "Invite more Krolvin? You at the sauce, man?"

Xess exclaims, "Their blood will be on your hands!"

Speaking to Lylia, Raelee says, "... they want Stephos. The man who sold weapons to the krolvin, that were then used to attack this town."

Lylia says, "And the krolvin have been a common enemy of ours."

A townperson says, "We aren't afraid they'll burn down the Landing from the outside. We're worried they'll imprison and change us from within."

Kelfyr says, "And those defenses have costs."

Asben whispers something to Pukk.

Nairena says, "The temptation of power. Its endless like conflict."

Cryheart asks, "Yet, who lent us aid when Jantalar attacked this town?"

Perigourd says, "I was under the impresion the Krolvin were sworn never to return here."

Kelfyr says, "Ones I'm sure they won't look to share."

Tayler says, "One Krolvin."

Speaking firmly to some gathered townspeople, Kayse repeats, "We will not let that happen."

Speaking to Perigourd, Leafiara says, "Not quite. He said he wouldn't return for war."

A townperson says, "How Kayse, how?"

Pukk says, "I think that change from within already happened."

Tayler says, "We do not know if he ever achived his goals or was gutted when he returned home."

Tikba says, "We have been told the Earl is no fool. If the annexation angers you, you may be sure he expected it to."

A townperson says, "Speaking of resistance, is not resistance."

Speaking to Tayler, Leafiara agrees, "And that's a fair point."

Nairena raspily says, "Good stuff."

Speaking to Leafiara, Perigourd says, "They know little else."

Pukk says, "Look at what they did to Leafiara."

Lylia icily says, "The krolvin could have been eradicated. That is still a possibility."

Speaking to some gathered townspeople, Asben says, "We will fight back."

Xess says, "The fact you're even speaking about this tells us you yourselves have doubts."

Pukk asks, "And where is Renpaw?"

Pookia asks, "Okay so when we were defending the town the other night against lions and illoke and krynches oh my, was that not resistance?"

Some in the crowd begin to whisper about Asben preparing to go to war with the imperials.

Yardie says, "Oh yeah, just incite the rumors."

Mourdeyan says, "Response suits better than reaction."

Speaking to Asben, Diablic asks, "Really now?"

Xess says, "Pretty sure I heard the same."

Speaking to Asben, Xess asks, "You hiring?"

Speaking evenly to some gathered townspeople, Kayse admits, "As I have said numerous times tonight. I don't know yet. We need more information before we can plan any action or reaction. But I will not stand by and let Wehnimer's lose its freedoms or what makes it the town it is."

Missoni curiously says, "What fighting back is there to do? The Earl has not attacked. Quite the opposite."

Pookia exclaims, "Rumors the the spice that make truth palatable!"

Cryheart says, "Rumors still."

Speaking to Diablic, Asben says, "I'm not up for letting the town get taken over."

Speaking to Lylia, Yardie asks, "This is the part where you come in about "the right words," yeah?"

Mourdeyan says, "Exactly."

Speaking to some gathered townspeople, Kiyna says, "I feel your concerns. I feel them deeply. I can't promise anything, and I wouldn't trust anyone who says they can. But I will do my utmost to ensure that the Landing remains as free as it is now."

Lines in the Sand

A townperson says, "What does lost freedom look like to you? Councilors? All of you?"

Speaking dryly to Yardie, Lylia remarks, "Yes, if I can fit one in edgewise."

Kayse remarks, "We are talking in circles until we get more information."

Speaking to Asben, Xess says, "I've been out of the mercenary work for a bit but I'm still capable."

A townperson says, "yeah, good question!"

Lylia exclaims, "We know what lost freedom looks like!"

Leafiara considers, "That's a good question, isn't it..."

Platio says, "What a bunch of whiny twata."

Some in the crowd begin to chant, "Great question!"

Tikba quietly says, "I think we know the meaning of freedom."

Kelfyr says, "They look like a people forced from their cities, over and over and over again."

Speaking to some gathered townspeople, Vaemyr says, "First of all, we will negotiate with their diplomats when they arrive and learn more information, I plan to suggest holding a town hall with all of you, so that the public can then bring concerns to us all, before we continue negotiations afterwards. I promise I'll do everything in my power for you all."

Speaking to Yardie, Pukk asks, "You and your kobold kingdom will side with Landing if it comes down to a fight with the imps right?"

Lylia says, "We saw it when Chaston Griffin imprisoned people here."

A townperson says, "Councilors, I challenge you here and now, make a stand, and tell us precisely where the line is for you on lost freedom when it comes to the Empire."

Perigourd whispers something to Missoni.

Speaking to Pukk, Yardie asks, "Kobold kingdom? Huh?"

Drektor says, "Lost freedom looks very similiar to death."

A townperson says, "Yeah yeah, let's hear it!"

Lokhem huskily says, "The tough questions get asked."

Speaking to Yardie, Pukk says, "It's okay. Everybody knows."

Pookia says, "I mean it like we're losing our freedom right now."

Daratrine asks, "We lost freedom?"

Nairena quietly says, "Yea for the new job."

Pookia exclaims, "They say they're not gonna mess with us but i dont trust em!"

Speaking concernedly to Xess, Daratrine asks, "Did you know about this?"

Speaking to Pukk, Yardie sighs, "I'm not certain if the kobolds even know. They're probably picking their noses obliviously."

Speaking to Daratrine, Xess says, "I knew everything."

Xess says, "Even why those five roltons were drowned and smelling of ale."

Daratrine confidently asks, "Are the kobolds stealing all our freedom?"

Kelfyr asks, "The townsfolk have a point. What is the line?"

Lylia snaps, "Half-Elven citizens were rounded up and placed in camps. Others could not move freely through the town. That is what it looks like when freedom is lost."

Lylia says, "Not this...this pettiness over whose name is on Moot Hall."

Mourdeyan says, "Ye needn't trust blindly, tis earned, and khas been to my thinkin."

Vaemyr says, "If they try to take away our rights for self government, enforce their laws onto our town, try to control our citizens through force or dubious means. Any of these I would consider a direct attack on our Freedom, and would fight against."

Nairena says, "Knowing where the people stand is kind of important."

Speaking incredulously to Xess, Daratrine says, "Roltons? I don't think roltons even know what freedom is."

Xess says, "Well those five sure don't, they're dead."

Speaking in Faendryl, Missoni asks something you don't understand.

Mourdeyan says, "Usually right behind whomever is defendin em."

Speaking in Faendryl to Missoni, Lylia says something you don't understand.

Daratrine quietly mutters, "What happened to the roltons."

Speaking to Missoni, Yardie says, "I'm proud of you."

Xess says, "If you must know."

Speaking to Vaemyr, Pukk says, "What if they forcefully make us change Mayors or something like that? I know...it's a remote possibility thing...but it might happen."

Kiyna says, "I concur with Vaemyr. The line for me is autonomy of government. The Landing should be governed by an elected Mayor and not a Baron. The Landing is not the Empire."

Perigourd says, "What if is an endless cycle."

Cryheart asks, "Ye trying to stir up trouble, Pukk?"

Speaking to Xess, Daratrine mouths, "What."

Speaking in Sylvankind, Kelfyr says something you don't understand.

Speaking quietly to Cryheart, Awsibey asks, "Its pukk what do you think?"

Speaking to Cryheart, Pukk says, "What is this trying stuff...."

Speaking to Daratrine, Xess says, "I believe a sorcerer put me to sleep with demonic magic and then forced me to drown those roltons with ale before waking up without my pants on."

Speaking concernedly to Xess, Daratrine asks, "Have you told the councilors?"

Speaking to Xess, Pukk says, "That wasn't a sorcerer...that was Helga."

Drazaa notes, "This is a rather unruly group."

Speaking to Pukk, Daratrine says, "I think this should be concerning to everyone."

Speaking to Pukk, Vaemyr says, "If for some reason they depose of Thadston, or such, then that would be an attack on our government, if Thadston resigned of his own will and reasoning, then we would elect a new mayor from our town by our citizens. If the empire tried to interfere in that election then that would be interupting our right to rule and thus against our Freedom."

Speaking to Drazaa, Leafiara corrects, "Town."

Speaking to Vaemyr, Yardie asks, "When was the last time we heard from Thadston?"

Speaking to Vaemyr, Pukk asks, "Kinda like what happened with Leafiara right?"

Platio says, "Who cares."

Pookia says, "Regardless of their intentions, we need a contingency in case stuff goes wrong, the fate of the landing cant rely on the word of outsiders."

Government Interference

A townperson says, "Didn't the Earl appoint a town councilor once?"

Some of the townspeople nod.

Leafiara says, "Under the old system of the town council, yes."

Leafiara says, "Cordarius."

Speaking to some gathered townspeople, Kayse responds, "Freedom looks different to everyone. In my eyes, anything that takes away what Wehnimer's stands for currently. Its views, how we function as a town--anything that doesn't continue to allow the town to grow. I will work to preserve what we currently hold dear and important to the town. That is all I can promise."

A townperson says, "Oh, the "old" system....so it's okay..."

Guarrin repeats, "The Landing is a protectorate."

Kelfyr asks, "Do not plants fail to grow when taller trees stand just outside their light?"

Leafiara says, "I most definitely don't think it's okay, but I'll defer to our current council on this."

Speaking to Pukk, Vaemyr says, "That wasn't done by the outside, or imperials, that was done by our own town, and I still believe that was a wrong situation, if anything a new election should of been immediately held at the time, and the fact that happened was wrong."

A townperson says, "Did anyone resist or fight when the imperials planted their own town councilor?"

Leafiara recalls, "Chamorr did."

Speaking to Vaemyr, Pukk says, "So the imps want us to think."

Speaking to some gathered townspeople, Kiyna says, "I'm sure some did at the time, yes."

Leafiara says, "Breshon mocked him over it."

Pookia exclaims, "The bear did!"

Speaking to some gathered townspeople, Perigourd says, "About as many did when candidates ran for office about twenty years ago."

Speaking to Kayse, Raelee whispers aloud, "... what does Wehnimer's stand for currently? Is there a consensus on that?"

Speaking to Kelfyr, Lylia says, "If that were the case, the Landing has been blighted since its inception, as it has ever been in the Imperial shadow."

A townperson says, "Didn't that imperial-appointed councilor help usher in a new government and essentially eject Leafiara as Mayor? Did some fancy deals?"

Pookia says, "I wasnt even here yet and i heard about that."

A townperson says, "What happens if they cut more deals?"

Speaking to some gathered townspeople, Perigourd says, "They were all assassinated, no one blinked an eye."

Cryheart asks, "Dinnae the Hendor Imperials come to our aid in the past?"

Pukk exclaims, "Yeah! They ejected Leafi!"

Speaking to Raelee, Kayse discloses, "That is something that also looks different to every citizen."

Speaking to Pukk, Yardie asks, "Wasn't that someone else?"

A townperson says, "Oh yes, they defended us and aided us. That is not a question."

Speaking to some gathered townspeople, Kiyna says, "I think that degree of political maneuvering is something I would see as an attack on the Landing."

Leafiara acknowledges, "Cordarius does rather lack a spine."

Speaking mildly to Cryheart, Tikba says, "They must do so, if the Landing is a protectorate."

Vaemyr says, "Then you will have to make sure you continue to elect councilors and Mayors whom won't let that happen. I don't believe any of our councilors here today would stand by if that was attempted today."

A townperson says, "Hendor raising their shields to aid us will never, ever give them the right to control us. That's a weak argument."

Speaking to Leafiara, Tayler says, "I do wonder how he stands so straight without it, perhaps he had twigs taped under his shirt."

Kelfyr says, "The proposed borders of this new acquisition run rather close to these gates already. They run along the river that runs through the town."

A townperson says, "It is good to know where your line stands on freedom. Let us hope it never comes to that line, so you must never have to act on it."

Pukk exclaims, "Owly will protect us!"

Pookia quietly says, "Oh we're definitely gonna have to act on it."

Ulfwine says, ""It does not give them right to rule, but it does give us an indication of their good will."

Another townsperson says, "Not all of us worry about the Empire being so close. We just do not want to see more conflict."

Speaking to Pookia, Vaemyr says, "Preferably not."

Nairena asks, "Seriously?"

Speaking to some gathered townspeople, Lylia says, "Just so."

Vaemyr says, "Aye, none of us want to see more loved ones suffer or die... we've lost enough already."

Nairena says, "This town is a beacon telling bad things to come attack thee."

Asben whispers something to Pookia.

Mourdeyan says, "Yet we all remain."

Speaking to Nairena, Pukk says, "It's so quiet right now. It can't get any worse."

Pookia whispers something to Asben.

Speaking to Pukk, Yardie says, "Never...say that."

Speaking to Mourdeyan, Nairena says, "If you are good at killing, might as well go where you can get paid."

A townperson says, "Can we pass laws? Make decrees? Before they even set up roots? Lay some groundwork and rules for what would happen if they infringe on us?"

Speaking to Yardie, Pukk asks, "What can go wrong?"

Asben whispers something to Pookia.

Speaking to Nairena, Rhaladin says, "Like when ya' light tha' beacon in tha' elf cities an' a hundred guards run in tae' take ah' shot at ya."

Nairena says, "Exactly."

Leafiara approvingly says, "Good idea, contingency planning."

Pookia exclaims, "Thats what i said!"

Vaemyr says, "So please again, I emplore all of you, that you allow us the chance for peaceful negotiations with the diplomats and whomever this new Baron or Baroness is from the empire, and I ensure we are here listening to all of your concerns."

Nairena says, "Good training."

Rhaladin says, "It do be ah great way tae' get a mornin' workout in."

Speaking to some gathered townspeople, Kiyna announces, "As it happens, we were planning on drafting some legislation regarding precisely that."

Tikba notes, "The Earl made it clear in his proclamation that the Landing is an independent ally of the Empire."

Another townsperson says, "Yeah, let's draw the line before they do!"

Pookia whispers something to Leafiara.

Mourdeyan says, "If we wish the contempt of the any who come in good faith."

Tikba says, "He has already given that assurance, to respect the laws of the Landing. That is what independence means."

Speaking to Kiyna, Kelfyr asks, "And what would this legislation look to pronounce?"

Mourdeyan says, "That is not setting groundrules or any such, that's drawing a line in the sand."

Ulfwine says, "The Earl is not one to lie."

Lylia notes, "It was already established years ago that the Landing's authority ended at its walls. Ensuring that within those walls, it remains independent seems a wise course of action."

Speaking to Lylia, Guarrin asks, "Perhaps you can remind me exactly where the law extends?"

Speaking to Lylia, Guarrin says, "Ah, beat me to it."

Speaking to Kelfyr, Kiyna says, "Hard to say at this exact time. We still need to iron it all out."

Rhaladin says, "Ah find mos' earls unlikeable so ah' kin understand tha' slip up."

[General] Dwi asks, "I heard dat Mauss has decided dat smashin stuff aint worth dat nail polish...dis troo?"

Vaemyr says, "In fact, the councilors have talked about a new law, reinforcing our free elections, that I believe we all highly support. Putting it into effect would help prevent a situation from happening like what happened with Mayor Leafiara again."

Kelfyr says, "I'm sure these fine townsfolk would do with the broad strokes."

Speaking to Guarrin, Lylia says, "As far as the walls. This was firmly established during my rei -- ah, my tenure in office."

Kelfyr says, "Enough that they could sleep more peacefully in their beds this cold night."

Strain On Resources

Another townsperson says, "What about our farms, and food? and resources? They will crowd the land..."

Lylia says, "They are richer than we are, in case you had not noticed."

[General] Directed to Dwi, Mauss thinks, "...ya ain' quite tall enough ta troll like dat."

Speaking to some gathered townspeople, Kayse assures, "We will make sure our resources do not get depleted."

Lylia says, "And they are unlikely to move in droves."

Nairena says, "Increase the size of your fields, hire more hands. Adapt."

Someone else in the crowd asks, "What of the monsters they try to beat into the ground? Our streets still hold rubble and rocks from the stone giants...the imperials coming here endanger us."

Yardie mutters, "I don't mind fishing or baking should food grow scarce. Do my bit."

[General] Dwi thinks, "I gots high heel boots inna me locker."

Perigourd says, "I expect you should ask for a variance of travel on the Locksmehr and the coastal waters so as not to be deprived of fair access to the seas as well."

Speaking to some gathered townspeople, Rhaladin says, "Kill 'em all."

The voice of Thrassus asks, "Like that has never happened before?"

Speaking to Nairena, Leafiara considers, "I think their concern is that expansion will be impossible because too much territory will be Imperial."

[General] Nairena thinks, "I cant imagine you wearing heels Dwi."

A townperson says, "How will you make sure they are not depleted? Will we steal from the imperials, tax them to use our land? Words...just words. The campaign is over. When do you all begin to do your jobs?"

Cryheart says, "The Landing hae had troubles before."

Asben says, "I feel like even if the imperials weren't coming here we'd still have things coming here to endanger us..."

Asben says, "It's the landing afterall."

Mourdeyan says, "They aren't going to walk in and hand over the keys to tha kingdom annamore than I think they will come lookin for trouble."

Lylia says, "Blaming Imperial presence for unrest among the various beasts and monsters that beset us seems quite unfair."

Chandrellia whispers something to Pookia.

[General] Dwi thinks, "Hah! I know wot's in dat box...anna also ...dem boots is in my locker."

[General] Directed wryly to Dwi, Mauss concludes, "Besides, I been trainin' ta get inta full plate, and I finally did... I woulda thought ya'd been proud!"

Xess says, "If they rob us we may as well introduce them to why our fair town got it's name."

Speaking to Pukk, Yardie says, "Look, if matters grow scarce, I'll provide food for the orphans and those in need."

[General] Dwi happily thinks, "Am!"

Xess says, "By giving them one hell of a landing."

[General] Dwi exclaims, "Also kinda amazed!"

Speaking to Yardie, Pukk asks, "Squids?"

Pookia whispers something to Chandrellia.

Vaemyr asks, "There is always danger from monster attacks, this is not the first time that the Illoke have attacked us, let me ask this, what if they managed to drive them away completely? And we never need to worry about those monster attacks on our town an fields?"

Speaking to Lylia, Ulfwine says, "'TO say nothing of the beasts and monsters that beset various parts of the empire as well."

Evia says, "It is good these concerns are aired openly."

A townperson says, "Is it unfair, Lylia? The creatures of the wild remain in the wild. Is it not possible the imperials will displace them? Where will they go? Will they seek to find food, and shelter, and treasure within our walls?"

Pukk says, "Fried squid rings."

Chandrellia says, "I have a Theory, if you of the town would like to hear this."

Asben says, "And we will push them back like we do."

The voice of Thrassus says, "Not likely."

Speaking to some gathered townspeople, Lylia says, "It has happened before. Kobolds and orcs demanding citizenship."

Tikba says, "Look around you, and you will see the Empire has already sent its best warriors to defend us."

Kayse replies, "If we have people monitoring our resources and making sure things are replenished and monitored--they will not get depleted. They are not words there are actions behind them."

Speaking to some gathered townspeople, Rhaladin says, "If they come 'ere they'll meet nothin' but death."

Speaking to Pukk, Yardie says, "Seriously. I fish. I bake. I can get my brothers and other fisherman and women to aid in this."

Speaking to Chandrellia, Nairena says, "Please share."

Kelfyr says, "I'd wonder if, given pressure from the south, they'd head further north."

Speaking to some gathered townspeople, Perigourd says, "Considering how far the empire has travelled to defend the town already, it's unlikely that being closer would mean less protection."

The voice of Thrassus says, "Odds are they will move farther north where the lands are wilder."

Lylia smiles wryly and says, "It did not exactly work out for them. Citizenship, as you know, requires more than presence in town."

Kelfyr says, "I wonder if the settlements north of here might have something to say about that."

Lylia says, "Just so, Thrassus."

Chandrellia says, "Oklook, I think someone got wind of what the Empire has in mind, this Gnul fella."

You notice Sevanya moving stealthily into the area.

Leafiara waves to Sevanya.

Chandrellia says, "And hes not happy about it."

A townperson says, "We're just worried..."

Chandrellia says, "He feels, now this is just a theory."

Lylia says, "It is incredibly unlikely that there will be hordes of Imperials moving here. To what purpose? For what ends? There is more than enough Imperial land for settlers to create a homestead."

Another person says, "...and our children have questions, and we have no answers."

Pookia whispers something to Sevanya.

Chandrellia says, "That if he destroys the surrounding area the Empire will no longer want it."

Speaking to some gathered townspeople, Kayse assures, "I understand the worry. We all are, but I know we will work together to ensure the best outcome for Wehnimer's Landing."

Xess exclaims, "How can your children have questions?!"

Speaking to Leafiara, Sevanya says, "I showed up because I heard we're getting mad about the scum empire that has ambitions on our lives."

Speaking to Lylia, Guarrin says, "Indeed."

Xess says, "They're always out in the wilds."

Tikba says, "Tell them the Landing is a free city, and the Baron will be here within the week."

Guarrin says, "Or baroness."

Rasson says, "You don't even watch your children, they end up in those monsters."

Speaking to Sevanya, Leafiara says, "Depends on the definition of 'we,' but largely yes."

Speaking to Xess, Brisca says, "Children can be very curious."

Speaking to Lylia, Raelee mutters, "... this is not precisely considered a plum assignment. Most who are already here are not necessarily enjoying it."

Speaking to Tikba, Vaemyr says, "Diplomats, I don't know if the Baron or Baroness is actually coming that soon."

Talk With Gnul?

Chandrellia says, "Now, I understand we dont know what is going on, but maybe just maybe, the Gnul fella is scared as well."

Leafiara points at some gathered townspeople.

Leafiara nods at Sevanya.

Xess says, "Look there's curiousity and then there's just incompetence."

Kelfyr says, "Forced resettlement isn't a new tactic. And not one that's always incredibly concerned about whether the settlers appreciate the quality of their new homes."

Speaking to Raelee, Perigourd says, "I imagine the Vornavians enjoy Vornavis."

Lylia says, "I can empathize. I am worried about a few matters too. The sorcerers' guild, the Reach, so many areas of concern, and I can only imagine how those with families must feel."

Speaking to Xess, Brisca says, "They are not mutually exclusive."

Pookia says, "We should team with the stone giants. those circle explosions were powerful."

Speaking to Perigourd, Raelee says, "And thus, they are likely to remain there and not come here."

Evia says, "In what case does any entity seek to harm and bring ruin that which is in its protection."

Sevanya says, "We're independent, they have all the reason in the world to harm us."

Chandrellia says, "I think if there is a way to calmly approach Gnul, and talk to him calmly, maybe we can get to why he did what he did."

Guarrin says, "I would be surprised to see a large inflow from certain baronies."

Chandrellia says, "I personally think that he is scared like all of you are."

Vaemyr says, "Anyways, tell them that our town will always be free, we'll fight for it if we have to, we'll defend it against monsters and men if need be. But that we will do everything we can to ensure that it won't come to that, that we will do our best to ensure the towns people's lives and safety and prosperity."

The voice of Thrassus says, "The Illoke are rather irrational, so that's likely to produce nothing of use."

Ulfwine says, "Hendorans are a happy people. I cannot see masses of them leaving to live in the Graendlor Pasture."

Speaking to Leafiara, Chandrellia says, "Nice to see things dont change."

Yardie asks, "Thrassus will you come out already?"

Speaking to Chandrellia, Leafiara asks, "In what sense?"

Someone in the crowd speaks up, "What happens when a sorcerer casts implosion at the stone giant leader?"

The voice of Thrassus asks, "Why?"

Xess says, "I'd assume flying rocks."

Someone in the crowd snickers, "Gnul and Void." Others chuckle.

Chandrellia says, "What happens if we can actually talk calmly to him and find out exactly why he is doing what he is doing."

Pukk says, "I love that one."

Xess says, "Alright enough grievences."

Xess exclaims, "Bring out the ale!"

Speaking fondly to Pukk, Leafiara says, "Wow, they've taken after you in all kinds of ways tonight."

A townperson says, "What happens Chandrellia!?"

Xess exclaims, "On the city's dime of course!"

Chandrellia says, "Think about it people, Gnul stated, if they want it so badly, burn it all down."

A townperson says, "What happens!?"

Speaking to Leafiara, Pukk says, "I'm so proud."

A townperson says, "I'll tell you what happens...."

A townperson says, "He'll kill hundreds of townspeople and then a few elite arbiters will let him escape in the middle of the night on a fancy ship and go free...."

Chandrellia says, "How many time have we gone off half cocked about an issue and our town ended up the worse for it."

Pookia whispers something to Sevanya.

Missoni reasonably says, "Well, I cannot disagree there."

Tikba says, "He would be too heavy for a ship."

Speaking to Leafiara, Pukk whispers aloud, "Did we ever do that?"

Speaking to some gathered townspeople, Kiyna says, "When you say 'elite'..."

Speaking to Pukk, Leafiara says, "Yes."

Speaking to Pukk, Leafiara says, "Tyrrax."

Speaking to Leafiara, Yardie says, "That again."

Speaking to Leafiara, Pukk whispers aloud, "Oh yeah."

Lylia flatly says, "Yes, let us bring out every grievance of the past decade."

Speaking to Lylia, Pukk says, "Don't tempt them...they will do it."

Speaking to Lylia, Guarrin says, "Finally."

Chandrellia asks, "I may not have been the best Councilwoman, but I did my best and I learned alot, let me ask you townsfolks somethihg, do you want us to fight for Landing and keep it safe?"

Nairena says, "We dont got all night for that."

Guarrin grabs a heavy leather book from a small pocket inside of his iron boar hide cloak.

[General] Dwi asks, "Sum sorta cult hangin out in da Landin Square?"

A townperson says, "Every grievance? Fair enough! Aspis canceled Bardfest!" Many growl in the crowd.

Speaking to Pukk, Yardie says, "I was just about to say that."

Leafiara says, "To be fair, that one was only a few months ago--"

Some others chuckle.

Sevanya says, "You know, you all can be mad about Tyrrax now, but when we have to come get him to help us fight the Empire when they find moon rocks under our town and think it's worth flattening, you'll appreciate the move."

Xess asks, "Woah?"

Speaking wryly to some gathered townspeople, Kayse says, "I won it too many times, that's why."

Xess says, "Yeah these people are RIGHT to be upset."

Speaking to some gathered townspeople, Tayler says, "That was different, and thus far the Krolvin have remained distanced from our shores."

Speaking playfully to Lylia, Yardie says, "Look what you did."

Guarrin admits, "They have a point there."

Lylia exclaims, "Yes, and now we have Revelia Carnivale. Change is not always for the worse!"

[General] Mauss thinks, "Anxious townsfolk about the annexin' thing."

[General] Selucia thinks, "'yes, come try the lemondade."

Speaking to Yardie, Lylia says, "I know. I am a terrible stirrer of trouble. I learned it from others."

Cryheart says, "Changes are inevitable in life."

Evia says, "So make your own bardfest, come on."

Pukk exclaims, "They canceled bardfest?!? How could they?!"

Chandrellia says, "Look I have family here too."

Speaking to Lylia, Kiyna admits, "That is harder to say than Bardfest, though..."

Xess asks, "Townspeople what do you care in the end though anyway?"

Speaking to Lylia, Rhaladin says, "Prouncibility leaves somethin' tae be desired."

Missoni exclaims, "The carnivale is a delight!"

[General] Dwi thinks, "Figgers."

Speaking to Xess, Pookia says, "Well, they live here."

Speaking to Kiyna, Lylia says, "You have a point there."

Chandrellia says, "You, all are my family here and yes I like everyone else want us safe."

Xess says, "Problems arise we follow your side and eventually we bleed and die for you til its right."

[General] Revalius thinks, "I wanna put a bid in on RR if we are just annexin and buying things."

Daratrine exclaims, "Yeah!"

Speaking to Xess, Rhaladin says, "Ye kin' bleed all ya' want."

Xess says, "We do."

Speaking to Xess, Rhaladin says, "Ah make THEM bleed."

Speaking to Rhaladin, Lylia asks, "Why have two syllables when you can have so very many more, though?"

Speaking to Xess, Yardie says, "Isn't it obvious? They just want to ensure their way of life is perserved. As crazy, volatile, and hectic as it might be, they want to keep what is theirs. It's everything to them."

Chandrellia says, "So lets find out why Gnul is upset, and maybe, just maybe if need be he will help defend us if it comes to that."

Speaking confidently to Xess, Daratrine asks, "Wait, what are we doing?"

[General] Dwi thinks, "Hah...I know a feller who's gotta box worth dat town."

Speaking to some gathered townspeople, Vaemyr says, "The first step though, is still we need to talk with the Diplomats from the empire that are coming, after we know more about their intentions, we'll decide what steps to take, and you all will be welcome to bring your opinions to any of the councilors."

Xess says, "This world is ever changing."

Speaking to Lylia, Rhaladin says, "'cause it do be much faster tae' talk."

Tikba asks, "How can we reach Gnul?"

Gryphons and their Oaths

Someone in the crowd says, "Someone asked earlier...but what if the Baron claims all of the Gryphons? Then what of those sworn to the Landing?"

Xess says, "The only constant we've ever had was death and ale."

Speaking to Chandrellia, Pookia says, "Making allies is better than making enemies, especially with the empire creeping towards our gates."

Guarrin says, "That would prove to be difficult."

Pukk says, "That is a good question."

Speaking to Tikba, Kayse says, "I tried over thoughts the other evening, but nothing."

Speaking to Guarrin, Yardie asks, "Can you claim a Guarrin?"

Lylia admits, "Yes. That is one of the challenges we face in a state of such flux."

Speaking to Cryheart, Yardie asks, "Cryheart on loan?"

Chandrellia says, "I am sure the Gryphons will make the wisest choice for their group and leaders."

Guarrin says, "If I may elaborate."

Pukk exclaims, "I claim Cryheart first! I call dibs!"

Speaking to Guarrin, Vaemyr says, "Please."

Cryheart says, "Our Order hae sworn an oath to protect the Landing."

[General] Revalius thinks, "Well solhaven was to big for my budget and i couldnt punch that whole town in the face."

Lylia says, "The Gryphons. The Sorcerers' guild."

Guarrin says, "The Order is recognized as an official Order of the empire."

Pukk says, "Okay. You can have him."

[General] Dwi thinks, "Plus..dat fish smell."

Pukk exclaims, "Owly calls dibs on Cryheart!"

Speaking to Lylia, Yardie asks, "Sorcerer's guild?"

Xess says, "They are free to recognize whatever they like."

Missoni says, "Imperial knights are not just up to be claimed willy nilly."

Guarrin says, "Therefore we do have a connection to the Empire there. However, some of our knights are sworn to other lieges."

A townperson says, "who will everyone follow in an invasion?" Someone snickers.

Guarrin says, "Myself. Sir Brinn. Dame Deavon. For example."

Xess says, "Hopefully the one alive."

Leafiara reassuringly says, "Pukk will appoint a new leader if need be."

Chandrellia says, "I will follow my heart and defend this town no matter what, I always have just like everyone here."

Speaking to Guarrin, Nairena says, "That puts you and your knights in a difficult position if the empire comes calling."

Speaking to Yardie, Lylia says, "Yes. The one near the shoreline. I do hope it will not run afoul of the Hall of Mages in some fashion. These are some of the finer points of change that make it difficult."

'Cryheart says, "Did nae the Order of the Silver Gryphons protect this Landing when Jantalar and Talador attacked this town."

Guarrin says, "Indeed, however, our Oath is first to the landing and the people."

Reassurances

One of the townspeople says, "Despite the flare tonight, it is good to hear the town councilors make their statements known on the line for freedom. I feel better hearing their words."

Evia says, "We have direct experience with difficulty."

Rhaladin asks, "Flare?"

Xess says, "Hear them and SEE their presence."

Xess says, "We will always be here for you."

Pukk exclaims, "I would appoint Pookia as the new town leader!"

Speaking to some gathered townspeople, Pookia says, "Like im here for you, not me."

Chandrellia says, "I'm no longer on the council but I have every bit of faith in the new council members."

Speaking playfully to Lylia, Yardie quips, "Just don't put me to work so soon, should matters get dangerous, yeah?"

Xess says, "I will be here for you longer if Helga forgives me bar tab."

Speaking affably to Chandrellia, Leafiara says, "Three of them are excellent."

Daratrine asks, "Is ther going to be a curfew or something?"

Guarrin says, "I would also add that I trust the Earl in this matter, as I do all others."

Cryheart asks, "Did nae the militia and citizens help to protect this town when we hae been invaded?"

Speaking to Xess, Rhaladin says, "Jes' tell 'er ye died."

Kiyna announces, "I'm not as experienced in the matter, but if I have to, I'll lead the charge in the invasion myself."

Speaking to Leafiara, Pukk asks, "Which three?"

A townperson says, "You may trust the Earl..."

Speaking lightly to Pukk, Leafiara demurs, "That would be rude to answer."

Xess says, "She'll just call a cleric."

A townperson says, "But we also trusted Dennet."

Speaking to Leafiara, Pukk says, "I tried."

A townperson says, "Well, not all of us."

Speaking to some gathered townspeople, Kayse says, "I did not trust Dennet."

Speaking to Kiyna, Pookia says, "Ive seen ya fight! ill follow ya in a battle."

Leafiara adds, "And Praxopius, and Octaven, and Naimorai, and Vlashandra..."

Vaemyr says, "I just ask you all to trust us, trust your townspeople, your brothers and sisters and family."

Xess exclaims, "Now lets have the council buy the good people of Landing a round on their dime!"

Speaking to Kiyna, Yardie says, "I think, in truth, you send your best speakers to discuss the matters and voice the concerns of the people. This all begins with conversation....and alcohol."

Raelee dubiously says, "Who trusted Dennet? I worked with him on a daily basis and I did not trust him."

Pukk says, "I vote that we give the new councilors a chance."

Speaking to some gathered townspeople, Chandrellia says, "So trust us and your Town Council do what is right, let them speak with the Empire delegates, and then maybe we can speak to Gnul, just please, give them a chance to do what you all voted them to do."

Xess exclaims, "I vote we have them pay for booze for the entire night!"

Speaking to Yardie, Kiyna says, "There'll be none of that last part from me."

Lylia says, "Honestly, none of us can agree on what color Lornon and Liabo are for very long; some will trust and others will not, and we shall stand in front of Moot Hall and debate it until dawn gilds the skies."

Kayse evenly says, "Trust is earned, we hope we will earn yours."

Xess exclaims, "Trust is earned better with free alcohol!"

Speaking to Pukk, Pookia exclaims, "I appreciate that!"

Speaking to Lylia, Tikba says, "And then, at last, we will be able to agree."

Speaking to Lylia, Pukk says, "I don't know. Lornon and Liabo's colors are pretty black and white...."

Dwi yells, "Join who Pukk says!"

Xess exclaims, "Lets hear it for free liqour!"

Speaking to Pukk, Lylia counters, "Shades of grey."

Pookia yells, "Knuckleheads forever!"

Sevanya yells, "Knuckleheads for life!"

Speaking to Kiyna, Yardie says, "Point stands. Get your speakers. Jot down their concerns, present to whomever is to arrive."

Speaking to Lylia, Pukk says, "Well if you are going to bring Zelia into this."

Kiyna says, "I want it known that, while I do hope we can cooperate with the Empire, I am wary of their intentions. Even if the Earl has proven friendly before, these are not matters to be discussed lightly or without caution."

Xess says, "Must have been a misunderstanding."

Speaking to Chandrellia, Rhaladin says, "Jes' point me at tha' Gnul fella."

Xess says, "I said ale not bubbles."

Yardie asks, "What are these bubbles?" [someone was playing with a bubblemaking toy, probably from TSC]

A townperson says, "We are just worried about the slow infestation. First, a town councilor appointed. Now what is he? A regional envoy? An Outpost years ago...at first resisted, now accepted and even fought to bring back...oh the irony...more spurs, more titles, now a new border...a new Baron or Baroness...then what comes next? a new town? Ships to outsail ours? Horses to outlast ours? Imperial holidays celebrated in Wehnimer's Landing, our shops carrying their wares....feeding their pockets....then before you know it, that border engulfs us."

Pukk says, "I don't know...the bubbles make everything better."

Mourdeyan whispers to the group, "Distract em with cake and games...and bubbles...ohh, squirrel!"

Pookia says, "I mean thats, yeah thats exactly what im worried about."

Xess asks, "Isn't their wares in your shops your profit?"

Perigourd says, "You could do worse than to have imperial goods in your shops."

Speaking heartily to a small indigo bubble, Dwi says, "Misser Pukk anna Missus Bubble...gotta nice ring to it."

Cryheart says, "Aye, we appreciate your concerns."

Pookia exclaims, "Took the words right outta my mouth!"

A townperson says, "Will trade even reach us? Or will they stop at the Barony first? No need to carry goods to the little whiny town to the north..."

Xess says, "Pretty sure that's how free trade works."

Bellaja says, "It's already happening."

Tikba says, "Indeed, perhaps we will find imperial knights walking the streets, fighting invaders."

Speaking to some gathered townspeople, Lylia admits, "You may be right. That may be the goal. But if it is the goal now, why was it not a decade ago? Two-score years? A century?"

Speaking to some gathered townspeople, Chandrellia says, "Yes, beleave it or not that is my worry as well, but I beg you let teh council do what they are here to do, gve them a chance."

Speaking to Perigourd, Missoni says, "Dibbles' fishcakes would be a fine addition."

Tikba says, "Or holding auctions for our orphanage."

Speaking to Tikba, Guarrin says, "It would not be the first time."

Ulfwine asks, ""you are customers, we are customers, why stop at the Barony?"

Tayler says, "Expansionism is rarely a quick process, but it is effective."

Lylia says, "A free Landing is worth more to the Empire than a controlled one. Otherwise, it would already be so."

Speaking heartily to Pukk, Dwi says, "Oh...so sorry yer betrothed chose anudder path."

Someone in the crowd says, "What of the Brotherhood of Rooks? They will no doubt rise up as they have before. What will you do to stop them councilors?"

Speaking to some gathered townspeople, Kayse assures, "We still have the new bazaar and the Darkstone Bay Consortium to continue to help with jobs. As well as help current merchants prosper."

Speaking to Dwi, Pukk says, "Story of my life."

Lylia murmurs, "The Rooks are going to present their own set of troubles."

Nairena says, "Pay the rooks."

Chandrellia says, "Well Councilors, that was directed to you."

The voice of Thrassus says, "If someone would have taken my suggestion and filled in all those tunnels with rock that question wouldn't have been needed to be asked."

Dwi heartily asks, "Who's da loud mouf back der?"

Speaking to some gathered townspeople, Kayse asks, "Why shouldn't we help the Rooks if they are willing to work with us to continue to allow Wehnimer's to be free?"

Raelee quietly mutters, "... not too late, Thrassus. Not too late..."

Yardie says, "The wizard who can manipulate earth can't be bothered to fill tunnels with rocks."

Pukk says, "The rooks aren't a problem...they are the solution."

Some in the crowd begin to whisper about Kayse being a Rook supporter.

Speaking to some gathered townspeople, Tayler says, "There are potential benefits. Should they patrol the seas and stop raiders from taking merchant vessels, any taxes or tariff's paid will be well worth the cost, compared to replacing a ship and crew."

Leafiara amusedly says, "And they call *me* the Rook Queen."

Kayse smirks.

Vaemyr says, "I will say to the Rooks, that I also hope they give us a chance, they have fought for our town, and I think care about our freedom. I think if we can show we wish to support that, then they should not have any reason to attack the empire."

Xess says, "Look I'm just saying, we can challenge their envoy by trial by combat and get drunk before forgetting it ever happened."

Speaking heartily to Leafiara, Dwi says, "Callin ye Cappin..fer eber."

Pookia wistfully says, "Someday itd be neat to meet a rook... they're still a mystery to me...."

Sevanya says, "If the empire did try to subjugate us, the rooks are probably one of our best chances at resistance..."

Sevanya says, "They seem awful good at hiding."

Vaemyr says, "And if we fail at that, then they will have every right to act as they please."

Speaking to some gathered townspeople, Chandrellia says, "Who cares who is supporting who, how many of you all support Amos? eh? answer me that! do not judge someone by their looks or sudgestions."

Speaking to Leafiara, Pukk says, "You have been replaced it seems."

The voice of Thrassus says, "They'll just throw those damndable spheres all over the place as they usually do, and it will be the town that will suffer the consequences for it."

Speaking surprisedly to Pookia, Leafiara says, "You've never met Casiphia or... any of them? Huh."

Speaking to Pookia, Nairena asks, "You mean they dont hang out at the rogues guild?"

Speaking to Chandrellia, Kayse says, "We are trying to work together, not throw mud at others."

Lylia mockingly asks, "Resistance? How long do you think the town could hold out against an Imperial power -- any empire, I might add, not just the Turamzzyrian one?"

Speaking to Pookia, Tikba says, "I only know of them through the fear others have of them."

Speaking heartily to some gathered townspeople, Dwi asks, "Aint it haff off pint nite at helgas?"

Speaking to Kayse, Chandrellia says, "I understand that Councilwoman, just making a point."

Speaking to Lylia, Sevanya says, "Well, I'm sure as hell not going to let them stroll on in here if they please."

Vaemyr says, "BUT, if they do try and sabotage our acts of negotiations, or attack unprovoked, then that will be a crime against our town and endangering our successes, and I hope that everyone of you, will help influence them not to do so."

Lylia says, "If the Vaalor wanted it, or the Faendryl, it would already have been done. You are missing the point."

Speaking to Lylia, Guarrin says, "That would be complicated, politically at least."

Pookia exclaims, "The elves wouldnt want our stinky town!"

Speaking to Guarrin, Tayler says, "We tend to be experts at complicated."

Speaking to Lylia, Guarrin says, "Which is why the Order was founded to begin with."

Lylia slowly explains, "There is a reason that the town is free and that no one has attempted to annex it."

Concluding Remarks

Some of the townspeople begin to break from the crowd, wandering off in several different directions, while a smaller crowd only remains.

Speaking heartily to Goldstr, Dwi exclaims, "Oh!"

Xess asks, "See?"

Xess says, "I told you free booze would prevail."

Lylia says, "It is worth more free than possessed by any one entity. That. Is. The. Point."

A townperson says, "What of Grishom Stone? Will they not invite his ire?"

Chandrellia says, "On another note, perhaps the Empire will come in, clear teh area and perhaps offer up some of teh surrounding to us to expand and maybe grow, there is a lot we dont know and wont until the Council speaks to the Empire."

Speaking heartily to Pukk, Dwi says, "Aint joinin til I hear da password."

Leafiara asks, "You mean will the Empire invite Grishom's ire?"

Xess yells, "Break out your pocket books council! We're drinking on your dime!"

Speaking to Chandrellia, Sevanya says, "How quickly we fall to collaboration."

Tikba asks, "More than we already have?"

Leafiara says, "Hmm..."

Cryheart says, "We cross each bridge together when we come to them."

Vaemyr says, "They might, but if anything having another ally against Grishom Stone is a great boon for all of us."

Lylia says, "Oh, I should be highly interested to learn whether Stone's ire or his amusement will be more roused."

Kiyna says, "I recall we were thinking of increasing patrols around the Deadfall."

Speaking to Lylia, Bellaja says, "I can't help but think why annex it and fight you all? You're giving them full access to all but the ground under your feet. There's no need to make such a bold move."

Looking at all the people hurrying by, the runner mutters loudly enough for you to overhear her, "It's sure been busy of late, I wish that lazy town clerk would hire some temporary help." She shrugs to herself and goes off about her business. [OOC note: it's just an ambient message, but too fitting here to leave out]

Raelee says, "... perhaps the support of the Empire will be a great boon when the time comes. Stone is not a benign presence and will eventually demand to be dealt with."

Pukk says, "Leave it to Raelee to spoil all the fun with logic."

Speaking to Raelee, Nairena says, "Wise words."

A townperson says, "...convenient they repealed Chaston's Edict just in time to come claim a "free" town full of different races..."

Speaking to Bellaja, Lylia says, "Exactly. There is nothing gained from annexation that warmer relations cannot accomplish more easily. And that is equally true of any other power that moves trade goods through the port here."

Speaking to Pukk, Raelee says, "I do try."

Perigourd says, "They already have one."

Chandrellia says, "They dont want Landing itself, just some ofthe surrounding area."

Missoni says, "No one has claimed this city."

Speaking to some gathered townspeople, Yardie says, "I hope that's not a problem."

Speaking to some gathered townspeople, Kiyna says, "If they did that for the sake of annexing us, imagine the power we hold over them."

Kelfyr says, "For now."

Speaking to Raelee, Pukk asks, "To spoil the fun or use logic...or both?"

Further Concluding Remarks

Some more people break from the crowd and wander off.

Mourdeyan says, "Same thing just now it seems."

Speaking evenly to Pukk, Raelee says, "Logic, Pukk. Always logic."

Speaking to Lylia, Bellaja asks, "You've yet to hear the real agenda here. The question is how do you find that out?"

Guarrin grumbles, "That's hardly a fair statement."

Speaking to Kelfyr, Chandrellia says, "Then we deal with that when it happens, if it happens."

Pukk exclaims, "Hey, don't go yet! We still have to throw Amos out of town!"

Speaking to some gathered townspeople, Goldstr says, "If da Empire wanted da Landin dey could a took us ages ago, please fear nae."

Drazaa offers, "Glad this crowd is getting thinner."

Lylia says, "You are quite right. I hope that if we listen, we may learn much."

Tikba says, "Perhaps the diplomats will tell us, when they come."

Tikba says, "Or perhaps we will know from what they do not tell us."

Kelfyr asks, "When? When the border is in Trollfang? When it's a step outside the gates?"

Vaemyr says, "If anything the repeal of Chaston's Edict should be a sign of better intentions I would think, rather than a threat to our freedom."

A townperson says, "Time will tell I suppose...but I worry...and so do many of us..."

Guarrin says, "And one that has been coming for some time."

Cryheart says, "That is understandable."

Lylia quietly says, "You are not alone in having concerns."

Speaking to Vaemyr, Sevanya says, "I seem to recall a lot of violence around that. They hardly seem united."

Mourdeyan says, "As do we all, troubling times causes worry."

Mourdeyan says, "But it needn't turn to fear, suspicion and chaos."

Pookia says, "They cant even agree on where to wear their feathers."

Tayler says, "I suppose the better question is... if they chose to take the Landing, how would we stop them? You all have seen what Amos can do with four of those Imperial pylon warships."

Speaking to some gathered townspeople, Kayse responds, "It is okay to be worried, but let's not let negativity and emotion cloud our future judgments and decisions. We will move forward as a town together no matter what happens."

The voice of Thrassus says, "Just don't start setting things on fire about it, it's annoying."

Vaemyr says, "Well, I hope at least some of tonight, our responses relieved at least a little of your worries, I know it's hard to accept that we don't have all the answers yet, but we do stand with you all."

Pukk says, "If it gets too bad we will always have Mother."

A townperson says, "Many of us will fight for our freedoms. On rooftops or in alleyways. But none of us want it to come to that. But we will."

Xess says, "No matter your concerns Helga will always be there for you."

Speaking to some gathered townspeople, Yardie says, "The worry is healthy and expected. But time and communication can sort and assuage many of those concerns."

Speaking to some gathered townspeople, Asben says, "And a lot of us will stand with you."

Xess says, "And besides we wouldn't fight and die for a spineless Landing either."

A townperson says, "Good."

Speaking to some gathered townspeople, Drazaa says, "Some concern makes sense. But you cannot allow yourselves to be subjugated mentally."

Speaking to some gathered townspeople, Kiyna says, "I share your worries. I am no force of nature, just one person trying to do their best."

Mourdeyan says, "Comtempt absent of any truth or investigation is only going to begin a war."

Guarrin says, "Worrying before a battle means you die twice. Be concerned. Do not let it cloud your judgement."

One be one, the rest of the now small crowd disperses, people walking off towards their homes or shops.

Discussion Afterward

Speaking to Xess, Rhaladin says, "Speak fer' yerself, ah'm here for tha' fightin. It be good."

Xess says, "Keep true to your core and we'll stand firm with you hand in hand, ale sloshed in ale slosh-alike."

Lylia says, "Yes, Thrassus. Often."

Tikba murmurs, "They were right about one thing."

Evia says, "Lets hope bravado and provocation don't lead us to the need to enlarge the cemetery and commit to building a home for widows and more ophans."

Tikba says, "I would like to know where the Mayor is."

Speaking to herself, Chandrellia says, "You and your big mouth, when will you learn to keep it shut."

Kiyna says, "He's late, is where he is."

Speaking to Evia, Pukk asks, "What about the widowers?"

Perigourd asks, "Has anyone sent a messenger his way?"

Kelfyr says, "That may be the most cogent and respectful mass of citizenry I've ever been among."

Speaking to Yardie, Leafiara mentions, "This is what I meant when I told you for years that if the people have deep concerns, sometimes they do appear and make them publicly known. It's not always as silent as you've seen since moving here."

Speaking to Chandrellia, Xess says, "I wouldn't have your mouth any other way."

Tikba says, "Sometimes they have tangle weeds."

Speaking to Kelfyr, Kiyna says, "Not a single pitchfork I did espy."

Cryheart says, "He may still be in Hendor."

Speaking to Tikba, Leafiara acknowledges, "Also true."

Speaking to Kiyna, Tayler says, "This time."

Goldstr says, "I sees der concern but nae thinks der be a worry, da Earl jess gettin da homeless Taladorans from da now Bleaklands a new home dat jess happwns to be close to us."

But Wait, There's More

A town clerk arrives, eyes tired, and yawning. "I've received word that..." He looks down at his scroll.

Xess says, "Woops, said that in bone shatter territory."

Pukk exclaims, "It's the clerk! Get him!"

Mourdeyan says, ""i trust there are many sharpening the farm tools just now."

Speaking to Goldstr, Guarrin says, "That may be the case."

Vaemyr asks, "That?"

Tayler says, "I hope they're paying that clerk overtime."

The clerk yawns and looks up, "Leyan, yeah, late eve of Leyan, the Mayor is expected to return."

Pookia exclaims, "Oh! well!"

Cryheart says, "Leave the clerk alone."

Pookia says, "There we have it."

Speaking to Leafiara, Yardie says, "This is a different, overt circumstance where people are clearly in disarray. Loyalties tend to be put aside when one's livelihood is in question."

The voice of Thrassus says, "So, the day after tomorrow."

The town clerk yawns and wanders off into the hall.

Real Discussion Afterward

Xess asks, "Now how about that tax funded ale?"

Kiyna affirms, "Late. But at least he's still coming back. I was worried he ran into trouble."

Vaemyr says, "Good... we have things to talk about with him for sure."

Goldstr says, "Tankee fer dat news."

Speaking to Missoni, Perigourd says, "With a pack of demons in his wake."

Speaking to Perigourd, Yardie whines, "Demons?"

Speaking to Yardie, Perigourd says, "Always."

The voice of Thrassus says, "I'm certain he's well aware of the developments."

Lylia says, "Thadston brings his own demons wherever he goes."

Speaking to Perigourd, Yardie says, "Stop putting me to work."

Speaking to Yardie, Perigourd says, "I'm putting you out of work."

Pukk exclaims, "When Leafiara was Mayor everything was peaceful!"

Xess says, "The last thing we need a crack down."

Speaking to Perigourd, Yardie says, "There will always be demons. They are coming, and we'll have to be vigilant."

Speaking to Yardie, Perigourd says, "Constantly."

Speaking to Pukk, Asben says, "Define peaceful."

Mourdeyan says, "It must be exhausting."

Vaemyr says, "I'd also like to announce, that it is most likely that the new Consortium Offices will be opening this Day of the Huntress, I hope folks can come and check it out. Well assuming all goes as planned."

Xess says, "I think they meant the front line was further up."

Speaking to Asben, Pukk asks, "Not having chairs thrown at me?"

Speaking to Vaemyr, Missoni says, "That sounds lovely."

Speaking to Perigourd, Yardie says, "Well, leave we know we can fight them."

Speaking to Vaemyr, Lylia says, "I am greatly looking forward to that."

Speaking to Yardie, Tikba says, "Perigourd is well acquainted with demons."

Speaking to Vaemyr, Chandrellia asks, "Can we write on the new walls?"

Speaking to Lylia, Kiyna says, "I think we all are. Hopefully there are less raining boulders on that particular day."

Tayler says, "On that note... I suppose I shall find a bed."

Speaking to Lylia, Perigourd says, "His condition is certainly growing curious."

Speaking to Tikba, Yardie says, "Yeah, so he told me. Gave me some advice for the trials."

Speaking to Lylia, Perigourd adds, "The Mayor's that is."

Speaking to Cryheart, Pukk says, "Okay. I will reappoint you as the goto Cryheart next time...but you need to be quick about it when called upon."

Alosaka says, "Sir Guarrin. I hope things are well tonight."

Alosaka says, "I don't see any new fires."

Speaking to Kayse, Pukk says, "You did a good job tonight as the temporary Cryheart."

Speaking to Alosaka, Guarrin says, "Well enough, some troubled citizens."

Speaking to Guarrin, Kiyna says, "I am curious, since it came up. Is it feasible that the Earl could... assume control of the Gryphons? Issue you some kind of edict? I don't know your command structure or anything of the sort."

Speaking to Kiyna, Guarrin says, "He may offer us orders, yes."

Speaking to Kiyna, Vaemyr says, "I don't think Oaths can just be... changed."

Vaemyr says, "They are Oaths afterall."

Speaking to Pukk, Yardie asks, "I'm off to rest. Try not to rouse the kobolds, yeah?"

Speaking to Kiyna, Guarrin says, "However, as with all things, they will be evaluated against our Oath."

Speaking to Vaemyr, Perigourd says, "It's more complicated than that."

Speaking to Yardie, Pukk says, "Good night sweet king."

Speaking to Kiyna, Guarrin says, "This is how years ago, when he told the Order to stand down when Talador approached, we did not."

Speaking to Pukk, Yardie says, "Not a King....Blade....Phantom...but not King."

Speaking to Kiyna, Guarrin says, "Thus the Order was temporarily removed from the scrolls of Immuron, only to be reinstated later on."

Speaking amiably to Yardie, Leafiara informs, "If you're an undead phantom, I'm afraid I'm obligated to release you."

Cryheart says, "But, in the end he appreciated our Oath to defend the Landing."

Speaking to Guarrin, Kiyna says, "I see. Thank you. That is good to know. Knightly matters are not well known to me."

Tikba says, "We are fortunate to have your protection."

Speaking to Leafiara, Yardie says, "Not an undead one, just a Panicky one."

Goldstr says, "An he closed our Holding from us fer a time because we refused his orders."

Guarrin says, "It is our honor to do so."

Pukk says, "We will still have Owly to help protect the town."

Tikba says, "We must hope the enemies are cupcakes."

Pukk says, "Owly and his familiar Raelee."

Speaking amiably to Tikba, Leafiara says, "Oh, he can eat people too."

Speaking to Kiyna, Guarrin says, "However, I would also add that I do not expect such to occur again."

Speaking to Guarrin, Alosaka asks, "Have we learned anything more about this Gnul?"

Cryheart says, "I hae nae."

Tikba glances skeptically at Leafiara.

Speaking to a golden brown coyote, Drazaa whispers aloud, "We will get away soon."

Cryheart says, "I hae even tried to research, but to no avail yet."

Speaking curiously to Raelee, Leafiara asks, "How many people has Owly eaten?"

Speaking to Leafiara, Raelee states, "Three."

Speaking to Raelee, Perigourd asks, "Anyone I know?"

Pookia exclaims, "Three!"

Speaking to Tikba, Leafiara states, "There you have it."

Speaking to Alosaka, Guarrin says, "No, however, I have been considering going up there and having a few words with the illoke."

Speaking to Perigourd, Raelee says, "Yes."

Speaking curiously to Raelee, Perigourd asks, "Who?"

Speaking to Perigourd, Raelee states, "I was the first."

Kelfyr says, "Best of luck to the council in the trials ahead of you."

Speaking to Raelee, Perigourd says, "You seem to have come through unscathed."

Lylia says, "If anyone needs me, I shall be knee-deep in silks and velvets, organizing my wardrobe."

Pukk says, "Better this council than me...I don't have to worry abou the ire of the town now."

Speaking to Perigourd, Alosaka says, "You should've seen how she looked before."

Bellaja says, "It will be interesting to see it unfold, for certain."

Speaking to Perigourd, Raelee says, "I did survive."

[the crowd disperses here, but some move to the Small Park for the invoker shortly afterward]

[Town Square, Small Park]

A small, shaded park fills an old vacant lot behind a row of buildings, the bright lamplight from the square filtering through the passage to the north to illuminate the area with a soft glow. A weatherworn grey marble statue of a stocky human in pioneer's clothing overlooks the park, his stone hat encrusted by the gifts of decades of passing birds and his right hand half-upraised as if it once held some now-missing object. You also see the violet Kataric disk, the Haunting disk, the Khiya disk, some ornate wrought iron benches, a mass of charred building remnants and a tall black bulwark tower.

Speaking to Leafiara, Pookia exclaims, "Bring me popcorn next time!"

Speaking amiably to a half-elven invoker garbed in colorful layered robes, Leafiara says, "Definitely going to need your help in the comfing conflicts, no matter what they look like."

Speaking to Pookia, Leafiara exclaims, "Consider it done!"

Speaking to Pookia, Leafiara says, "That's for Thadston's return, mind you."

Leafiara says, "I'll have to bring extra because I'm not going anywhere near that Consortium building."
