There have been a few problems with animal features 'sticking' (i.e., the feature cannot be removed without [[GameMaster]] intervention). To make sure that this does not happen, do not toggle the Assume Shift command while already wearing an animal feature. Also, make sure to remove all [[feature alteration|feature altering]] items - such as wigs, gem-holding circlets, forehead gems, hair-jewels and some bandanas - before changing a feature.

Assume Aspect (650) Utility

Assume Aspect grants a ranger beneficial characteristics of certain wild beasts by allowing them to channel the spirits of nature for 10 minutes at the cost of 50 mana points. During this time, the ranger can ASSUME any number of aspects, but no individual aspect may be used more than once in a 4 minute span. If uninterrupted, the benefits of any given aspect will last for 2 minutes.

After the initial cast, the first aspect can be assumed for no mana cost. Subsequent aspects can be donned at a cost of 25 mana.

INCANTing or CASTing Assume Aspect during the 10 minute duration will refresh the spell at its original cost.

The spell can also be EVOKEed to use a single aspect for the full duration of the spell at half magnitude. Using ASSUME while in this form will be equivalent to EVOKEing the new aspect, at the full mana cost.

  • PREP 650 | CAST or INCANT 650 to cast this spell
  • PREP 650 | EVOKE with a single aspect for the full duration at half magnitude.
  • INCANT 650 EVOKE to evoke this spell once using INCANT
  • INCANT SET EVOKE 650 to always evoke this spell using INCANT 650
  • ASSUME {creature} or use ASSUME STORE to set your default aspect that will be assumed when the spell is cast.

Aspect Benefits

The enhancive effects of 650 are restricted by the same limitations as any other enhancive bonus.

Statistics - When assuming an aspect with a statistical benefit, the ranger receives a +20 increase to that statistic. Training in Spiritual Lore, Blessings provides an increased benefit.

Skills - Aspects with skill benefits increase that skill by +20 ranks. Training in Spiritual Lore, Summoning increases this bonus.

Wall of Thorns (640) - Assuming the Aspect of the Porcupine leads to an increase in the potency of the block rate and poison effect of the Wall of Thorns (640) spell. Training in Spiritual Lore, Summoning further adds to this effect.

Health Point (HP) - Not only does assuming the Aspect of the Bear provide an increase to the Constitution statistic, but it also adds +25 to the ranger's Health Points. Training in Spiritual Lore, Summoning provides an additional bonus to this effect.

Evasion/Block/Parry - This benefit provides a +10% chance to evade, block, or parry against like-level adversaries during combat. Training in Spiritual Lore, Blessings increases this chance.

Web (118) - While the Aspect of the Spider is active, the Web (118) spell is made more powerful by further reducing the target defense (TD) of the target by an additional 25 (50 total). Also, the duration and snare charges are both doubled when casting an area web. These benefits are not modified by lore training.

Sense, forage and healing RT - While under the effects of the Aspect of the Yierka the ranger will have a 25% RT reduction when consuming any healing herbs or potions, sensing area conditions, or attempting to forage . Training in Spiritual Lore, Blessings increases this benefit.

Animal Companion Bonus

If a ranger assumes an aspect that is of the same category (canine, feline, avian, or rodent) as their Animal Companion, they will gain an additional bonus while the effects of the aspect are active. The companion does not need to be the same specific animal as the aspect.

Character Features

While Assume Aspect is active, the ranger can take on certain features of that animal. All other personal features remain the same. Use the Assume Shift command to change a feature. There have been a few problems with animal features 'sticking' (i.e., the feature cannot be removed without GameMaster intervention). To make sure that this does not happen, do not toggle the Assume Shift command while already wearing an animal feature. Also, make sure to remove all feature altering items - such as wigs, gem-holding circlets, forehead gems, hair-jewels and some bandanas - before changing a feature.
