The verlok are a species of mechanical birds, similar in size and shape to chickens and other barnyard fowl. They are coated in a covering of bright yellow, orange and red feathers, though these feathers are not attached to the surface; rather, the feathers hover about an inch from the surface of their body, never actually touching the verlok. These feathers seem to offer some sort of physical barrier when still floating around the verlok. They also emit a faint glow, enough to illuminate dark surroundings. Feathers that have fallen from the verlok can be used to temporarily illuminate an area. The main body of the verlok is simply that of a mechanical, metal bird. They can be made out of any metal, and the metals comprising verlok are found in the same ratio that they are found in Elanthia. The body is hollow and jointed, and finely detailed. The verlok are capable of flight, despite their metal bodies. They also make noises, including clicking and humming, and are quite capable of mimicing speech. |

The verlok is a demon archetype which originates from the Lorae'tyr valence. It has three subtypes, verlok'asha, verlok'cina, and verlok'ar. All of these are classified as minor demons, and as such, can be summoned through the use of Minor Summoning (725).
Physical Description
The difference between the three subtypes of verlok is in the metal that they are made of. Verlok'asha are verlok which are made of simple metals, such as steel or bronze. Verlok'cina are made out of magical metals, such as mithril or vultite. The verlok'ar are made out of elemental metals, including drakar, gornar, rhimar, or zorchar. The metal in these verlok keep their unique abilities, lending their strength or weakness to the verlok.
Society and Behavior
The verlok live in small communities around large heaps of metal. Each pile is usually made up of only one type of metal, and the verlok which live near it will be made of that metal. This is because the verlok are born and die in the pile. A verlok begins its life appearing from within the pile, and when it is time to die, the verlok returns to the pile, recycling the materials to where they came. As such, verlok will live in the area around their pile of origin, cohabitating with others in the area. Verlok are rather like barnyard fowl in their demeanor, generally content to wander about until disturbed. When disturbed, they will take flight for only a short distance, enough to separate themselves from the threat. When summoned, the verlok refuse to land for some reason, remaining perpetually in flight.
Mechanical Benefits and Flaws
The verlok are generally quite good at most of their abilities. They have the second highest base coin capacity, and are able to carry three items. In contrast, their base mana capacity is extremely low, with a low growth rate as well. Of particular note is ther verlok'ar, which has a special ability when guarding. Due to their elemental composition, their beaks will flare in their corresponding element, doing additional damage to the pickpocket.
