Elemental Targeting provides a base bonus of +25 to both physical and bolt AS, and a +25 CS base bonus to elemental base spells which include (Minor Elemental, Major Elemental, Wizard and Bard Base). There is an additional bonus of +1 for every two ranks above 25. The total bonus is capped at +50 with 75 MnE ranks.
Overtraining past a character's level in the MnE circle will not increase the bonus.
Note: Although the Bard Base circle is considered a mental/elemental hybrid, bard spells currently receive the full bonus.
Bonus Calculation
For example, with 52 MnE spell ranks the bonus is:
- 25 + trunc[(52 - 25) ÷ 2] = 38
Sorcerer Base Bonus
Due to their spiritual/elemental hybrid nature, Sorcerer Base spells only receive half the normal bonus. The sorcerer base bonus is +12.5 with an additional +0.5 bonus for every two MnE ranks above 25. Any fractions from spell effect gains will be rounded up when the Sorcerer Base CS is calculated for a spell. The CS bonus is effectively capped at +24.5 (25) with 73 MnE spell ranks, assuming there will be no other fractional CS gains from spell effects.
For example, with 54 MnE spell ranks the bonus is:
- (25 + trunc[(54 - 25) ÷ 2]) ÷ 2 = 19.5
Note: Assuming there are no other fractional CS gains from spell effects when the CS is calculated, this will effectively be a +20 bonus. Other non-elemental / non-spiritual spell circles (not yet implemented) are expected to receive the same bonus as the sorcerer base.
Spiritual Base Spells
Spiritual base spells do not receive a CS bonus from Elemental Targeting. These spell circles include, Minor Spiritual, Major Spiritual, Cleric Base, Empath Base and Paladin Base.
Lore Benefit
Training in Elemental Lore, Fire provides a chance to cause the next spell cast to be charged with elemental energy based on a seed 10 summation of ranks. If a spell is cast within 30 seconds of gaining this charge, and the spell's damage type matches the caster's elemental attunement, the spell will gain a rank of critical weighting over its original power. The caster must be attuned to something to gain the ability, and only the casters attuned spell attacks will benefit from it. Attuning to random will still use the casters attuned element, so a caster will still get a flare if they're not currently focusing on their element of choice.
- This bonus can activate on bolts, CS spells, and elemental weapon/armor flares.
- The effect applies to one hit of a spell/spell like ability, so if the caster gets the bonus and casts Cone of Elements (518), only the first hit will be impacted.
- The effect can be triggered off of any portion of a spell or spell/like ability, so it is possible (though improbable) a consecutive cast of Cone will have nothing but hits with weighting.
- The critical weighting is applied before critical randomization, so it can be reduced by critical randomization.
