Kasendra Malwind
|
Kasendra Malwind, formerly Kasendra Chandrennin, was the daughter of Duke Bannon Chandrennin, who served as the Southern Sentinel of the Turamzzyrian Empire for many decades. She had five siblings, including older brother and heir to Aldora, Gerjonn Chandrennin, and younger brother Duncarr Chandrennin. She married Lord Salnim Malwind in 5122. She served as an earnest and skilled diplomat both within and outside of the Empire, she was heavily involved in the Imperial efforts behind the Valley of Gold accord in 5119, and she urged her cousin, Emperor Aurmont, to formally repeal Chaston's Edict. Kasendra was kind, earnest, and bold, and she was beloved by many who grew to know her. Her primary role was as an aid worker of the highest degree with Imperial backing and resources befitting her station, which she used effectively and with tempered diplomacy. On Fashanos 3rd, 5123, Kasendra was killed during the Farewell Ball for the elven emissaries in Ta'Illistim.
Following the destruction of Talador by Prelate Chaston Griffin in 5116 and the creation of the Bleaklands, Kasendra was integral in helping organize relief efforts for the survivors who were left with nothing. She first arrived in the north in Eoantos 5116, where she was formally welcomed by Baron Dunrith Malwind in the Vornavis court and where she first met Salnim Malwind. She explained that she had experience in relief efforts in Estoria and that she brought supplies that would provide some measure of immediate aid. She planned to set up a relief camp and was petitioning the northern territories for support, starting with Vornavis. Baron Dunrith pledged his support.
In the months that followed, Vornavis and Solhaven sent supplies by travel overland, often with Duvernith of the Mercantyler's Guild helping oversee logistical operations. Kasendra worked alongside them and Captain Martohck, who had accompanied her north along with a number of Aldoran soldiers. Salnim also started working closely with Kasendra on the coordinated relief efforts, and donated goods and supplies were regularly welcomed. Those efforts continued well into 5117. As the winter of early 5117 swept over the region, bandits started targeting the supply caravans.
During a court session in late Lormesta, Martohck arrived, bearing serious wounds, to report that Kasendra's party had been ambushed and she had been taken hostage by the banit Mureyk. The events over the next evening saw both Martohck and Salnim captured by Mureyk, though Captain Gurbah of the Vornavian Guard and a crew of adventurers were able to eventually break into the bandit's stronghold. Salnim was injured in the fight that followed, but ultimately he, Kasendra, and the rest of the hostages were freed and Mureyk taken into custody.
Kasendra and her counterpart from the City-States, Lady Sayilla Javilerre, were both influential in urging events forward in both Ta'Illistim and the Empire that ultimately led to the Valley of Gold accord, which first began as characters in the east and west petitioned their leaders to aid the Taladoran refugees. She took part in the Valley of Gold accord in Lumnea 5119, attending it alongside other dignitaries to witness Emperor Aurmont and Argent Mirror Myasara signing a treaty of mutual respect between their nations.
In early 5122, Kasendra and Salnim wed ahead of an anticipated announcement. Shortly afterward, Emperor Aurmont announced that Kasendra would be travelling to Ta'Illistim on his behalf as a diplomat, where she was welcomed into the Illistim court as an emissary alongside Argent Mirror Myasara's handmaidens. Sayilla, meanwhile, was welcomed in a similar diplomatic role in Tamzyrr. Salnim frequently traveled between Vornavis and Ta'Illistim, alternating his attention between his home and his new wife. While in Ta'Illistim, Kasendra made several appearances at court and local events as she fostered better relationships between her homeland and the elven City-States, although dignitaries remarked several times that she seemed withdrawn, during times when Salnim had returned to Vornavis and especially following the death of Duke Bannon.
Kasendra was deeply affected by the death of her father in Lumnea 5122. She left Ta'Illistim to attend the funeral services in Aldora. Before she returned east, she spent some time talking with Emperor Aurmont as a cousin about the future she envisioned for her and Salnim, who in spite of appearing human is actually quarter elven. She urged Aurmont to fully repeal Chaston's Edict for the sake of the children they planned to have together. Two months later, on Phoenatos 6, the Emperor announced the Edict's full repeal.
In early Fashanos 5123, Lady Athalia Malwind, concerned about the deteriorating health of Baron Dunrith, eventually sent word to Salnim to request his return to Vornavis. Salnim did so, which ultimately led Kasendra to attend the farewell ball for the elven emissaries alone. Kasendra was killed during the ball, where mistress Leisette of Ta'Nalfein was the first to report finding her.
In the days and weeks that followed, both Ta'Illistim and the Turamzzyrian Empire have been plunged into uncertainty, especially as Kasendra's counterpart, Sayilla, was also targeted just days after Kasendra's own death.

Additional Information
When Kasendra was first sent to the Illistim court, there was some confusion as to whether she was going to be a handmaiden or a diplomat. After some revised phrasing by the staff involved with the storyline, it was later clarified that while Kasendra was welcomed alongside the handmaidens, she was not technically one. This was a point of concern because at that time the criteria for characters to apply to be a handmaiden was substantially more strict and would not normally allow for either a non-elf or a married woman to serve as one - and Kasendra was both.
