Beetle mount

Beetle mounts released at Rumor Woods as part of a new Year of the Clockewerke Devices theme in 2024. Beetles are summoned by a solid metal whistle, which is a summoning item that stores their information but is considered a separate item. There are three tiers of beetle mounts: common, uncommon, and rare. All beetle mounts share a similar setup with their appearance. Beetle mounts can be male, female, or neutral gender. As with other mounts, beetles can be given a name visible to the owner with a Potion of Naming, available at Evermore Hollow. Common beetles can be unlocked to the uncommon tier via Uncommon Mount Foods, expanding their verb messaging, ambient message, and available feature options.

Appearance

Large and solid, the beetle is comprised of a wide variety of gears, screws, and pistons.  Six legs, two forward and four at the back, support the mechanical carapace that is made up of solid metal covered in sable-streaked crimson whorls.  Compound eyes rest above its large mandible, each ommatidium fashioned of a faceted nacreous blue waterweb, and short antennae wiggle and rotate as they interrogate their surroundings cautiously.  Peeking from beneath the smooth steel elytra is folded translucent sailcloth that is used as its hind wings.

Common

Common mounts are the least expensive option when considering purchase. They are limited in alteration options that may be allowed through the Ostler.

Uncommon

Uncommon mounts are the second most expensive option when considering purchase. They have more options available for noun choices, as well as a wider array of feature alterations at the Ostler. Their appearance is similar to the common tier.

Uncommon and rare beetles can have their eyes changed by nudging a gemstone into them, and can have their carapace design color changed with dye.

Rare

Rare mounts are the highest tier available for purchase and offer additional verbs unavailable at common or uncommon tiers. They have the widest array of feature alterations at the Ostler. They are also only available during their initial run, and are normally discontinued in concurrent runs. For 2024, the rare beetle mount was a mechanical metal rhinoceros beetle.. Their appearance is similar to the common tier.

The beetle has a rare ability where it will create a random Mechanical Flower that can be PLUCKed to turn it into a weavable item.
