The official GemStone IV encyclopedia.
The fire elemental is a massing of flames that flow and flicker with a life of their own. The intense heat generated by the fire elemental is nearly unbearable.
Hunting strategies
Fire Elementals cannot be crit like many other elemental-based creatures (Cold Guardians, Glacei). Hitting them and being hit by them causes ones armor and weapons to gain heat; which later gives messaging that is has "cooled down some." This may be similar to the frosted weapon effects in Pinefar when fighting Glacei or Ice Golems.
Fire Elementals use an attack similar to Major E-Wave. Some samples of being struck by it:
A fire elemental seems to pull back into itself for a moment.
A wave of crimson ethereal ripples moves outward from a fire elemental.
You are buffeted by the crimson ethereal waves, and knocked to the ground. You are pinned in place, unable to move.
Roundtime 10 Sec.
... 25 points of damage!
Flames incinerate right leg to the bone. Not a pleasant sight.
You are stunned for 5 rounds!
A fire elemental glows a brilliant orange as fiery tendrils extend from it, snaking along the ground!
The ground around a fire elemental begins to boil violently!
You are injured!
... 15 points of damage!
Burst of flames to right leg blackens kneecap.
... 20 points of damage!
Nasty burns to left leg. Gonna need lots of butter.
Avoiding it:
A fire elemental glows a brilliant orange as fiery tendrils extend from it, snaking along the ground!
The ground around a fire elemental begins to boil violently!
You are uninjured.
Their normal melee attack seems to be subject to EBP, and is probably ensnare based. The DF is not high, but the AvD is (this is versus crit padded Augmented Plate).
A fire elemental focuses its energies at you!
AS: +346 vs DS: +287 with AvD: +44 + d100 roll: +87 = +190
... and hits for 9 points of damage!
Ineffectual strike.
