Synopsis

Townspeople celebrate the return of Councilor Pookia in the town square with some crowd surfing and squid ring hand signs! However, there's not too much time to party, as Mayor Thadston is spotted on the second floor of Moot Hall and a chair nears the window...

...but he only pushes it over, then comes out to the streets. He was hoping to throw Jadedragan in a ditch, but doesn't see him around. He's seen the imflass weapons from the reiver attack at Amos' baystone mine the night before, which he said Jadedragan had already confessed to, but now they've been seen and "used against our own at the mines." Thadston says he had given the mine guards authority to protect against any reiver movements, which is likely why the reivers attacked.

Thadston will banish Jadedragan from Wehnimer's Landing and has also heard word of denizens or officials from Icemule Trace offering to keep funding weapons supplied to the Ember Vale reivers. He says it might or might not be the case and will require further investigation, but if true then he'll deal with it. He calls the Black Thorn Resistance pouters, but will take decisive action if he sees them supporting it.

In other news, the next mayoral election should be announced by next week, Thadston will be running again, and he expects announcements on the regional envoy positions in the coming week too. If continued aid goes to the Ember Vale, he'll see financial and land assets seized from those involved.

Wolfloner says threatening Icemule and its council breaks decorum and is not his to make demands of, but Thadston tells him to be mindful of his words and there have been questions raised about his involvement recently.

Afterward, Ordlyn, the prospective replacement for Casiphia if the Wraith successfully gets his faction of Remnants to take over the Brotherhood of Rooks, is heard over thoughts asking if people are tired of the loud voices, posturing, and endless threats of those who want to quiet the voices of freedom seekers. Leafiara says she's very tired of it, but Ordlyn will still have to go through her to get to Casi; Councilor Kayse asks Ordlyn what he wants and he says freedom. Leafi and Pukk say they've been hunting down the Remnants and Ordlyn says he was almost offended by the name at first, but now sees that they're what's left, the scraps fighting to remind people that freedom is slipping away.

A cloaked figure heads to the Garden Niche and people gather around him, meeting a figure around whom air bends unnaturally to shift his appearance between everything from a dwarf to a giantman, with changing colors and a changing face. Townspeople gather to meet him and he rallies some of them, asking if freedom is a remnant of the past. Gutstorm asks him if he's the one who killed Kayse and Ordlyn says no, they're family, but they're orphans because Mother has failed them and suffered quite the injury.

Ordlyn says the Black Thorns are carving poetic words and offer to help people move to the north, but asks who wants to pack and run--and some shout and cheer him on. He asks if the Rooks can even still be called that and says Mother's Hens are in bed with the enemy, likely literally, getting some to chant him on. Chandrellia asks him if he's done since he's boring her, then he responds: "You came here sweetie, I didn't force you." This draws glances from Marshal Stormyrain, Wolfloner, and Leafi, the latter saying she questions if the real Rysus died when this person's demeanor and style seem so similar. Ordlyn only says that what Rysus stood for wasn't killed when Leafi murdered him.

He says freedom isn't won or sustained by words, letters, and pamphlets, nor gained and maintained by tea parties and trade pacts. Kayse asks how Ordlyn is for freedom when he's disrupted Wehnimer's; Ordlyn says they've attacked the Imperials and will root out the Rooks loyal to the Mother Hen, as there's no room for weakness and the infection must be cut off. As various arguments are mounted against him, Ordlyn apologies to the townspeople that everyone's rude and loud, but says they'll speak again--and they'll be fighting to wedge the Imperial grip from the Landing, "orb by orb if needed."

After he leaves, various people dismiss his words; among them is Pukk, who says the Wraith is a puppet for the rotten ones in the Imperial court--which he says isn't all of them--and getting to defend against the Wraith instead of going on the offensive makes things easier and ruins their plans. Someone in the gathered crowd asks Pukk isn't he a Rook; he says yes and he'll defend the town with his life, but knows when to defend and when to attack. A townsperson shakes his hand before the crowd begins to disperse. Leafi asks him if people should speak with him if they wish to join the Rooks and he says yes, he does recruiting.

Stormy considers where she's seen air distortions similar to Ordlyn's and asks Leafi if it compares to the Rone vigilantes; she says similar, but Rone bent air for barriers and repelling forces. However, that was the Casiphia Rone, so she might know more. Thadston had previously mentioned that he convinced Casiphia to (metaphorically) hang up the gauntlets, but where they went from there--if anywhere, if they weren't destroyed--is unknown.

[Town Square, Small Park]

A small, shaded park fills an old vacant lot behind a row of buildings, the bright lamplight from the square filtering through the passage to the north to illuminate the area with a soft glow. A weatherworn grey marble statue of a stocky human in pioneer's clothing overlooks the park, his stone hat encrusted by the gifts of decades of passing birds and his right hand half-upraised as if it once held some now-missing object. You also see the purple Ionen disk, the Haein disk, the Divinorium disk, the Platio disk, the Hikko disk, the Areic disk, the Akzun disk, an animated broadsword hovering in mid-air, the Wardrob disk, the Dogrot disk, an ayanad crystal, the Becmonchu disk, some ornate wrought iron benches, a mass of charred building remnants and a tall black bulwark tower.

[Town Square Central]

This is the heart of the main square of Wehnimer's Landing. The impromptu shops of the bazaar are clustered around this central gathering place, where townsfolk, travellers, and adventurers meet to talk, conspire or raise expeditions to the far-flung reaches of Elanith. At the north end, an old well, with moss-covered stones and a craggy roof, is shaded from the moonlight by a strong, robust tree. The oak is tall and straight, and it is apparent that the roots run deep. [Wehnimer's, Treehouse]

This sturdy wooden platform, built of planks and wedged into a fork of the oak's trunk, provides a place to sit and rest in the shadow of an overhanging branch. A glance through the foliage affords a bird's-eye view of the lamplit town square below. You also see a tattered squirrel's nest tucked between two sturdy branches with a single red rose on it.

[Inside Oak Tree]

Deep in the hollow of this ancient tree, a few carved wooden stools are clustered around a fine-grained oak slab that serves as a table. Soft light streams in through a large knothole, softly illuminating the area. Sequestered from the hustle and bustle of the town square, this quiet chamber offers a cozy haven for weary caregivers.

Speaking happily to Pookia, Leafiara exclaims, "Welcome back!"

Speaking to Pukk, Pookia exclaims, "No! false info! disinfo! wrong!"

Kialeigh says, "If she jumps from the tree you all gotta catch her.... trust exercise."

Speaking to Pookia, Leafiara says, "Maybe Tyrrax will show up again soon! He had a gift for you, but you weren't there that night."

Pookia exclaims, "Im the squid girl!"

Speaking to Pookia, Leafiara agrees, "Sure are!"

Speaking to Pookia, Tayler says, "I actually have a few bits and bobs from that ship."

Speaking to Pookia, Chandrellia says, "So good to see you back."

Pookia honestly says, "Missed you all."

Speaking to Leafiara, Markx says, "It does concern me how many familiar faces have suddenly appeared in the Square..."

Speaking to a sharp-nosed grey puppy with long corded fur, Missoni coos, "Ziggy."

Speaking to Pookia, Stormyrain says, "You've been missed."

Speaking sagely to Markx, Leafiara says, "Pookia brings all the everyone to the yard."

Speaking to Stormyrain, Pookia says, "Yeah a whole bunch! you wouldnt believe how many times ive been attacked since i left."

Speaking to Markx, Tayler says, "Strange weather phenomenon, normally people hide from the rain, but here in the Landing when it's raining is the only time the streets are clean so it brings everyone out."

Several townspeople arrive and scoop up Pookia into their sea of interlocked arms. They chant her name and march around the oak tree six times, hoisting her up and down as they cheer and laugh. They then place her back on the ground, make squid ring shapes with their fingers, and go back to their nightly business.

Pookia's cheeks flush with a soft pale rose shade, darkening her freckles even more.

Pookia says, "Awwwww."

Pookia fidgets.

Pookia fidgets nervously, beads of sweat forming on her brow.

Pookia says, "Aww thats really sweet."

Speaking quietly to herself, Raelee says, "... this town is confusing."

Chandrellia exclaims, "Ok that was priceless!"

Speaking amiably to Pookia, Leafiara says, "Think they still serve squid rings in the Rusty Cutlass too if you ever get the urge."

Speaking encouragingly to Raelee, Missoni says, "If anyone can figure it out, you can."

Speaking to Raelee, Chandrellia says, "Cinfusing, but comferting."

Pookia exclaims, "The squid ring secret handshake is spreading i see!"

Speaking offhandedly to Missoni, Leafiara says, "She couldn't figure it out last time I asked if she had."

Speaking curiously to Raelee, Leafiara asks, "Has that changed?"

Speaking to Leafiara, Raelee says, "It is a troubling constant."

Speaking to Leafiara, Pookia says, "I always stock up when im there."

Speaking relievedly to Raelee, Leafiara says, "Oh, good. That'll preserve one of the lines in a song I've been writing."

A burly figure appears in a window of the second floor of Moot Hall. He stands absolutely still, watching the streets below. His head cranes from time to time as if searching for someone in the crowd.

Vaemyr says, "Oh hi Thadston."

[General] Zalahstar thinks, "Oh no."

Chandrellia says, "Uhoh, watch for falling chairs."

Pukk yells, "Watch out for flying desks!"

[Town Square, East]

Here in the center of a broad plaza near the commercial area of the bazaar stands the impressive facade of the slate-roofed Moot Hall, where the citizens of Wehnimer's Landing hold various official, religious and social functions. Facing the square are some of the town's more prosperous shops, still doing business with the many customers who still frequent the streets at night. You also see a faltering wasteland spirit that is flying around, a large purple wooden barrel, the Moot Hall and a black imperial wagon with a glowing blue-white pylon on it.

Kialeigh says, "Mind the windows so we don't get smushed by falling furniture again.."

Gutstorm drunkenly slurs, "Him door ish locked."

Speaking to Perigourd, Missoni asks, "Do you suppose it safe to stand here?"

Pookia exclaims, "Lemme pick it!"

Leafiara admits, "I'm not sure I've ever seen the inside of his office after a year and a half."

Speaking to Pookia, Chandrellia says, "By the way, I restocked your choclate milk for you."

Speaking to Missoni, Perigourd says, "I've stood in the midst of much worse."

Kialeigh yells, "If yer gonna break a window.. throw something small? Like a candle.. or a small stone!"

Tikba says, "I fear we know whom he is seeking."

Speaking reasonably to Perigourd, Missoni says, "Fair point. I can be spry if needed."

Speaking to Chandrellia, Pookia says, "I snuck back a few times to re-up. turns out being a vagrant makes ya thirsty."

Speaking slowly to Kayse, Stormyrain says, "I did send him a message last night to let him know I have weapons from the reiver attack, that had a crafter's mark on it."

Gutstorm drunkenly slurs, "Iffin me give ye all one me sign, will ye help me puttem on Thadshton?"

Cryheart yells, "Ye costing the Landing council money if ye keep breaking windows!"

Stormyrain says, "I'm sure mine was not the only one."

Speaking to Leafiara, Vaemyr says, "Remember when we used to play dodge the Meteor's on the black sands? We'll change it to dodge the funiture in front of Moot Hall."

Kialeigh yells, "Let's try something new and leave the window alone? Break a door instead!"

Speaking to Tikba, Tayler says, "Can't say I've met them."

Gutstorm drunkenly slurs, "Deez are kinna nice."

Speaking wistfully to Vaemyr, Leafiara says, "I too miss Goblyn."

Speaking to Vaemyr, Leafiara agrees, "But yes."

Kialeigh says, "Windows are furiously expesnive..."

Speaking to Tayler, Tikba says, "He is a kind fellow, but headstrong."

Speaking to Kialeigh, Pookia exclaims, "Thats my trick!"

Kialeigh says, "And also expensive."

Speaking to Kayse, Missoni asks, "Does he know who placed the elemental blade on the weapons?"

Missoni asks, "Or has that person not come forward?"

The figure above pushes over the chair. No window is broken. The figure moves to his door and steps out of sight.

Gutstorm drunkenly slurs, "Well atleasht da chair gittin yooshed."

Speaking to Missoni, Stormyrain says, "Unfortunately I cannot tell who did with my abilities."

Speaking surprisedly to Cryheart, Leafiara says, "Huh, he listened to you."

Pukk says, "Huh...maybe that isn't Thadston."

Pookia says, "Well that was anti climactic."

Leafiara muses, "Either that or held back because he doesn't see Jadedragan here."

Cryheart says, "Apparently."

Tayler says, "Wait for it...."

Mayor Thadston just came marching in.

Thadston nods.

Speaking to Thadston, Stormyrain greets, "Mayor."

Speaking to Thadston, Chandrellia says, "Evenin Thadston."

Pukk says, "Surprise surprise surprise."

Cryheart says, "Good evening, Mayor Thadston."

Tikba politely greets, "Mayor."

Missoni greets, "Mayor."

Thadston says, "Evening."

Goldstr exclaims, "Evenin Mayor Andrews!"

Kialeigh asks, "Did he jump out the window!?"

Pukk asks, "Running low on chairs?"

Bernadette softly says, "Eve'n Mayor."

Kialeigh says, "That woulda been an entrance."

Pookia says, "My expectations have been successfuly subverted but im taking an IOU for furniture throwing."

Speaking to Pukk, Vaemyr says, "We have an entire storage closet of them."

Kialeigh says, "Leaping from open windows like a cat."

Speaking to Pookia, Kayse says, "You missed it when he threw a whole desk."

Thadston says, "Welcome back."

Thadston nods at Pookia.

Speaking to Kayse, Pookia says, "I DID miss it."

Tikba mildly says, "We saw an imposter in your office just now. Do not fear. He did not fool us."

Pukk says, "Thadston missed Pookia."

Speaking dismissively to Pookia, Kayse says, "I am sure it will happen again."

Thadston says, "I was hoping to throw someone in a ditch instead."

Thadston says, "But I don't see them around."

Thadston says, "Shocker. Coward."

Speaking to Pookia, Markx says, "If it makes you feel any better, the desk missed you too. So might have worked out in your favor."

Thadston asks, "I'm not a confusing man, am I?"

Kialeigh says, "He's prolly spending his fantastic silvers."

Leafiara says, "Well, I mean... it depends."

Thadston asks, "My words are not so...complex as if I stood in an elven court, are they?"

Speaking to Irval, Pookia exclaims, "I almost missed you!"

Thadston asks, "When I say things, whether you agree or not, I'm usually quite clear, am I not?"

Irval says, "Very."

Goldstr says, "Aye ye be."

Speaking to Thadston, Vaemyr says, "I think generally they just don't care what you said."

Leafiara says, "Oh. In that respect, yes, no confusion there."'

Cryheart says, "Explicitly."

Speaking to Thadston, Chandrellia says, "Ummm could you repeat that,it wasnt very clear."

Thadston nods.

Chandrellia exclaims, "Kidding!"

Missoni softly says, "The Argent Mirror is quite clear as well."

Thadston says, "It's a shame Jadedragan couldn't be here tonight."

Speaking to Missoni, Pookia asks, "Clear? not reflective?"

Speaking to Pookia, Missoni says, "A clear reflection."

Irval asks, "You dont think the scar he now wears is bad enough?"

Tikba mildly says, "I am sure someone here will deliver your message."

Gutstorm drunkenly slurs, "Ye got giff fer him?"

Thadston says, "Maybe his head is up a reiver's ass somewhere."

Evia says, "Eew."

Gutstorm drunkenly slurs, "Why him head be dere Thadhston?"

Speaking to Bernadette, Chandrellia says, "No no, that time he was quite, clear."

Thadston says, "I've seen the weapons."

Kialeigh says, "He lives in the islands now.. rich... well liquored up.. smiling.. feet in the warm sand... a scantily clad barwench on his arm... coconuts.. I forgot what I was saying."

Vaemyr whispers something to Thadston.

Thadston says, "He confessed as much, but we've seen them, and they've now been used against our own at the mines."

Kelfyr says, "He ventured as far as the Hearthstone porch earlier."

Thadston says, "Sure, it's Amos's mines, and the reivers might tell you they are justified..."

Tayler whispers something to Elexya.

Thadston says, "But I gave the guards at the mine full authority to protect against any reiver movements."

'Thadston says, "Which is likely why they decided to...press back."

Thadston says, "So let me be very clear."

Thadston says, "I will be banishing Jadedragan from Wehnimer's Landing."

Leafiara admits, "Well, that does explain a lot."

Gutstorm drunkenly slurs, "Awww hey dat no fair."

Goldstr says, "Good call."

Pookia exclaims, "What an honor! i mean thats awful!"

Thadston says, "You're right. Fair is melting down his bones in the same forge he used to arm the reivers and he could spend the afterlife as a hilt."

Speaking darkly to Thadston, Wolfloner says, "He is a citizen of Icemule Trace."

Thadston says, "Oh, I don't care. He'll be banned from town."

Gutstorm drunkenly slurs, "Yeah Ban him from Icemool, datll teach em."

Tikba says, "Then the banishment should not discommode him."

Speaking to Wolfloner, Kelfyr says, "Sounds like he has somewhere to go home to then."

Thadston says, "So maybe he can spend more time north, with the others."

Speaking to Thadston, Chandrellia asks, "Uum what will happen if he enters the gates? do the guards have permission to arrest him then?"

Thadston nods at Chandrellia.

Irval says, "Mister Mayor. You could kill him a few times. If you thought it would do anything long-term outside make an enemy of you and a matyr of him. But I think he scar on his face, a permanent addition no less is quite telling and makes him a bit of an outcast as a result. The walk of shame will last years."

Thadston says, "Secondly..."

Kialeigh says, "I dunno he hides pretty well."

Evia says, "Martyr..now I've heard it all."

Kialeigh says, "He's constantly sneaking in for healing."

Thadston says, "I am hearing word of denizens or even officials of Icemule having offered to help keep funding these weapon efforts to arm the Ember Vale reivers."

Pookia says, "You can skin him and put his skin on the chair and then throw the chair at his pile of bones."

Speaking drunkenly to Leafiara, Gutstorm whispers aloud, "Member boutta year er two ago when me axed Thadstorn when we invadin icemool? me think now da time."

Kayse lightly says, "Funny how many of Icemule think it is their business to mess in our affairs."

Speaking to Thadston, Goldstr asks, "Aye?"

Thadston says, "That may or may not be the case...that will require some further investigation on my part."

Kelfyr says, "Proudly and openly, at that."

Speaking to Kayse, Tayler says, "Admittedly I can see their point, the Empire creeps ever nearer their borders and they are not exactly a protectorate."

Speaking bemusedly to Stormyrain, Tayler says, "I'm not saying I agree with them, I'm just saying I could see why they would be concerned."

[Moot Hall, Great Lobby]

The great lobby is quite spacious, with an oak bannister wrapping around a staircase leading to the second story of Moot Hall. The walls are draped in rich tapestries framing niches that hold marble busts of local dignitaries. To the north is a double door, and to the west, a mahogany door bearing a silver plaque. A carpeted pathway leads toward the Debt Collector's Office. You also see an old stained table with some stuff on it, a blackboard, a staircase, a veil iron shield-shaped plaque, a large wooden chest and a large wooden chest.

[Moot Hall, Landing]

Moonlight filters in through several windows throughout the landing of the second story of Moot Hall. The bannisters are a polished oak that run the length of the upstairs, and sweep down the staircase leading to the lobby. A sign is displayed on a glossy maoral door with a large wooden blackboard hanging next to it. You also see a staircase, the Registrar's Office and a polished thanot archway.

[Moot Hall, Upstairs Corridor]

Several benches line the walls alongside the sturdy oak door at the far end of the corridor. Several paintings are hung depicting various landmarks around Wehnimer's Landing. You also see a wide archway.

The end of the hallway is enclosed by large burgundy rugs. Potted plants are displayed on brass stands resting between a polished maoral door and a richly carved mahogany door. The dark corridor doesn't offer much in terms of natural lighting. You also see a sturdy ladder and a wide burnished oak archway.

[Moot Hall, Rooftop]

Dark slate runs across the roof of Moot Hall, providing solid footing and an impressive view of the town square below. To the west, the great oak tree in the center of town rises up, partially obscuring the western side of the bazaar. You also see the Wolfloner disk, a wooden railing, a wooden hatch and obvious signs of someone hiding.

Here in the center of a broad plaza near the commercial area of the bazaar stands the impressive facade of the slate-roofed Moot Hall, where the citizens of Wehnimer's Landing hold various official, religious and social functions. Facing the square are some of the town's more prosperous shops, still doing business with the many customers who still frequent the streets at night. You also see the Kialeigh disk, a floppy-eared white puppy masked with a patch of void black fur, an animated sharp-eyed reiver hunter, the Ehlron disk, a sharp-nosed grey puppy with long corded fur, the glossy pink Astrilyn disk shaped like a jellyfish, the Stormyrain disk, the Kelfyr disk, a grizzled porcupine, a faltering wasteland spirit that is flying around, a large purple wooden barrel, the Moot Hall and a black imperial wagon with a glowing blue-white pylon on it.

Ordlyn Face to Face... Sort Of

A dark cloaked figure moves through the center of town, heading towards the Garden Niche. Several townspeople begin to gather in the same location.

This small niche between two buildings has been neatly landscaped into a tiny moonlit garden, its careful mosaic of flagstones interspersed with patches of trimmed grass. A low stone bench rests along one vine-covered wall, and a patch of colorful violets surrounds a painted wooden barrel in one corner. You also see a faltering wasteland spirit that is flying around, the Kelfyr disk, the repousse copper Perigourd disk raised in leafy designs, the Kialeigh disk, the web-draped Missoni disk, the Stormyrain disk, a grizzled porcupine, a lazy wild deep red dog, some gathered townspeople, some acantha leaf, some acantha leaf, some calamia fruit and a large sack.

The light and air around Ordlyn bends and reflects unnaturally, where one moment his form appears like a grizzled dwarf, and the next a burly giantman. In any form, his visage continues to shift about, the color of his eyes ranging from blue, to green, to brown, and back again with almost every blink. The flesh of his face seems alive, like flowing water, constantly reshaping to redefine his features. A thin dark cloak frames his changing form, pulled back to reveal several daggers and a hand crossbow.

Kialeigh asks, "We found a cleric... wouldn't you know it?"

Ordlyn stands before the gathered crowd of townspeople.

Speaking to Ordlyn, Chandrellia says, "Oh hello lil Ordy."

Leafiara says, "Tsk tsk, getting sloppy to appear so publicly so quickly."

Ordlyn asks, "Is freedom a remnant of the past?"

Someone in the crowd shouts, "NO!"

Ordlyn shakes his head.

Ordlyn says, "No...no it is not."

Thrassus says, "Odd disguise."

Gutstorm drunkenly slurs, "Ordlyn yoo kilt Kayse?"

Kialeigh amusedly exclaims, "Dang... I forgot my pitchfork!"

Thrassus says, "You'd think you'd want one that draws less attention."

Ordlyn says, "Goodness, no."

Perigourd forages briefly and manages to find a small apple!

Speaking icily to Gutstorm, Kayse says, "He's probably too much of a coward to have done it."

Speaking to a floppy-eared white puppy masked with a patch of void black fur, Chandrellia says, "No dont bite his ankles, you never know where they have been."

Witfog asks, "What's this!?"

Ordlyn says, "We are a family..."

Speaking to Perigourd, Pukk exclaims, "I didn't know apples grew here!"

Ordlyn paces before the townspeople.

Speaking offhandedly to Gutstorm, Leafiara says, "I got over 15,000 silvers from Kilron each for those things."

Ordlyn says, "She has suffered quite the injury. She is weaker than she was before."

This small niche between two buildings has been neatly landscaped into a tiny moonlit garden, its careful mosaic of flagstones interspersed with patches of trimmed grass. A low stone bench rests along one vine-covered wall, and a patch of colorful violets surrounds a painted wooden barrel in one corner.
