While under the effects of the Dragonclaw spell, the caster's hands will grow hard and scaly, much like the skin of a dragon. This added toughness is manifested by a +10 increase to the caster's Unarmed Attack Factor (UAF).
The caster will also be able to hit magical creatures without special equipment, and if a random flare should occur, the attack will bypass all of the target's magical defense, reducing their Unarmed Defense Factor (UDF). These effects apply to all unarmed attacks (jab, punch, kick, and grapple).
Training in Mental Lore, Transformation provides an additional +1 bonus to the caster's UAF at 1 rank, to a maximum bonus of +24 at 300 ranks (seed 1 of the Summation Chart).
This is unachievable for monks though as they have a max of 101 ranks with training, 151 ranks with full enhancives, and 201 to include full enhancives and Ascension skill training.
Flare Effect
If a target has an active defensive spell then there is approximately a 1 in 6 chance for Dragonclaw to flare when the target is struck by an unarmed attack.
This flare, indicated by the messaging, As you strike, a deep golden light surrounds your hands!, will reduce the targets Unarmed defense factor by an amount equal to the target's defensive spell bonuses. The UDF reduction will only occur when there is flare messaging.

Initial Cast
>pre 1209 You fold your hands and deeply intone a sonorous mantra, focusing your mind upon the Dragonclaw spell... Your spell is ready. >cast You gesture. Your hands grow hard and scaly.
Wearing Off
The scales covering your hands turn brittle and flake away.
Flare Effect
In the first attack (no flare) the target has its normal UDF of 68.
>pun You attempt to punch a hobgoblin shaman! You have decent positioning against a hobgoblin shaman. UAF: 207 vs UDF: 68 = 2.000 (capped) * MM: 108 + d100: 16 = 232 ... and hit for 56 points of damage! Wild swing heavily impacts right forearm, fracturing the bone! The hobgoblin shaman is stunned!
In the next attack, the flare effect reduces the target's UDF by an amount equal to the DS bonus it receives from the Spirit Shield (202) spell. The Spirit Warding II (107) spell does not affect the outcome of the attack since it doesn't add to the target's DS bonus. If the target only had spell 107, then the flare would not activate.
>pun You attempt to punch a hobgoblin shaman! As you strike, a deep golden light surrounds your hands! You have decent positioning against a hobgoblin shaman. UAF: 207 vs UDF: 57 = 2.000 (capped) * MM: 125 + d100: 4 = 254 ... and hit for 64 points of damage! Spinning backfist bruises internal organs. The hobgoblin shaman screams up at the heavens, then collapses and dies. The deep blue glow leaves a hobgoblin shaman. The dim aura fades from around a hobgoblin shaman. Roundtime: 3 sec.
