The Wehnimer's Landing 5121 Town Council Debate, promoted as "Yardie's Big Debate," was a debate hosted by Yardie, involving the nine candidates for Town Council in Wehnimer's Landing in the year 5121. It took place from 10:00 PM to Midnight ET on Monday, June 21, 2021 at Moot Hall. All candidates were represented, either by themselves or a stand-in.
The answers shown here are not necessarily in the order they appeared in the original log.
Question 1 - What went wrong?
~Yardie's Question #1~
Yardie politely asks, "Our first question of the evening: Over the past year, the Landing has dealt with considerable threats, trials, and tribulations that have had a profound effect on its constituents and the overall structure of its government. The fact that we now have an election for Council Members before a Mayoral Election is telling of that concern. So the question posed to all candidates is...where did things go wrong? Was it failed leadership? Was it a difference of opinions? Lack of unity?" (Side Question: Since Chandrellia mentioned Leafiara's overzealousness. Is she to blame in some capacity or is it just misfortune?")~Leafiara (herself)~
Leafiara says, "The opening statements building to the question and the question itself seem to conflate two things. I'll talk first about trials, tribulations, and 'things that went wrong,' then the separate matter of restructuring the government." Leafiara says, "The biggest thing that went wrong was Marshal Thadston being possessed by a spirit and not asking anyone for help getting rid of it for half a year. It began to consume him and make him erratic, and we literally had to force his hand by putting him to a hearing, but by then we were left working on inventing entirely new magical procedures to save him while simultaneously staving off enemy attacks day and night." Leafiara says, "Here's an series of smaller things that went wrong: Judge Renpaw rejected my recommendation of appointing Stormyrain as the Marshal following Thadston's removal. Then he rejected her point that we could wait for Thadston's reinstatement without filling in a temporary marshal. Renpaw's case was that we needed a marshal at all times..." Leafiara says, "...but apparently he only felt that way for two weeks. The Knave killed Khylon, but Renpaw didn't call for the appointment of another marshal, as he inexplicably neither approved new candidates nor presented me with the three remaining ones from before." Leafiara says, "Speaking of inexplicable things, let's not forget Renpaw insisting I make a decision between appointing either Stephos DeArchon or Amos to the Steward of the Guilds position during a time when the other candidates had been attacked and the remaining two were under criminal investigation for having the means and motives to be behind said attacks." Leafiara says, "By the way, out of Stephos and Amos... One is a smuggler with connections to the Jantalarian underworld who's sold arms to krolvin slavers for his own profits, and the other is a smuggler with connections to the Jantalarian underworld who deals in pit fighting slave trading rings for his own sport." Leafiara says, "I could go on, but let me move on to restructuring the government. That came about by lack of clarity in the laws. I'll illustrate just a few." Leafiara says, "We have yet to hear a satisfactory explanation for why a Grand Magister has authority to order a trial of Pylasar in our court. Or why she could do so when the accused wasn't present. Or why the Consortium could 'place' a Judge. Or why the town council would uphold a vote from *four* citizens--Amos, Dakris, Kilron, and Walward--to cancel elections for *all* citizens until their demands were met." Leafiara says, "Again, the list goes on, not only from last year but every year I've lived here. Not all of these are directly related, but it speaks to the poor legal definitions." Leafiara says, "Because of the Landing's myriad voices and cultures, there are some cases where it makes sense to have loosely defined laws with room for interpretation. That encourages philosophical discussions, like the one we're having right now, about the higher moral ideals that guide the creation of laws in the first place." Leafiara says, "However, if we're to have those discussions and encourage more voices, then the new town council structure is better suited for that goal." Leafiara says, "That said, I wish Cordarius would stop claiming credit for it. Sir Cryheart proposed a similar town council expansion at one of my town meetings over a year ago, which I passed along to Cordarius in its original form along with a slightly altered expansion proposal of my own. It's my understand that Faerinn also proposed a similar plan."~Chandrellia (spoken by Pietra)~
Pietra flirtatiously says, "Chandrellia of Team Cha Cha answers thusly: I think it was a bit of everything, we had the Red Sons come and make camp just outside town and then throw their propaganda all over OUR town buildings. Then Vlashandra decided to play her games and allow Barnom to return, then the Knave showed up, and then of course we have Amos. when one is getting attacked by all fronts it hard to protect everyone at the same time. Leafi I feel was a bit over zealous at times, she is young and full of ambition. She had the town watching her, scrutinizing her every move, I am sure there were times where she felt no matter what she did it was the wrong choice. Choices had to be made, if we turn away every guest that comes to call, then it will be even worse for our town. We needed to take chances but also be on alert." Pietra says, "Chandrellia simply meant this: Leafiara was thrust into a position of managing far too many threats and opinions, and was pulled this way and that."~Faerinn (himself)~
Faerinn says, "A very vocal minority shouting down differing opinions. Whether or not this was intentional of the previous leadership is unknown, but the culture has become shouting down differing opinions with the mantra 'This is the Landing, Love it or Leave it.' If not outright death threats." Faerinn says, "While the previous leadership encouraged all voices she did not provide any kind of safety in doing so. The most of the differing voices became fatigued and left. The fact that during this election Yardie, Alosaka, and I are the most loathed figures in this election is very telling of this culture." Faerinn says, "That's the treatment towards the adventuring population. The regular townsfolk are regarded as stupid or expendable if regarded at all. I mentioned a scared constituent in one of my talks, and that came back with the immediate demands of her home address to be visited by the 'Strong hand.' Its likely harmless, but still the most aggressive way to start a conversation with anyone much less a woman with dementia." Faerinn says, "As council person I would respectfully accept differing opinions, and create channels to deliver these opinions to me without running an exhausting gauntlet of death threats. In additional I would take a page out of Cruxophim's book with a small group of diverse advisors."~Bekke (spoken by Maylan)~
Maylan recites: "There are always factions within the Landing. It will be the duty of the Council to bring the factions together where possible. There is no one person to blame, but a lack of unity - or at the very least a lack of cooperation where appropriate - and therefore the first focus must be an attempt at a compromise between all factions for the greater good of all, and not just those that see themselves in a particular class and/or power structure. Chaos effects all, regardless of social or financial standing." Maylan asks, "I'd say that's true for sure, dontcha think?" Maylan exclaims, "Bekke stands for unity, you heard it here!"~Chamorr (himself)~
Chamorr heartily says, "Alot has come upon the town in the last year, blood cults, knaves consortiums, its no wonder the town is on chaos." Chamorr heartily says, "The new forming of the town council, should, i trust bring some stability to the town, acct as a check and balance to the mayor, and bring some level heads into our policy makin." Chamorr heartily says, "I wonder if the barrister always uses folks with dementia to qualify his positions." Chamorr heartily says, "Finished."~Vaemyr (himself)~
Vaemyr clearly says, "Looking back at harsh times, it is always easy to wonder if you could of done better, if you had authority could you of helped stear things in a better direction, but life isn't always that easy. There were so many circumstances that lead up to this past year, that involved the years of various troubles before it. It was a situation that's been building for a long time, and it happned to boil over in the past year." Vaemyr clearly asks, "I certainly wish we could of done some things differently. Could we of somehow recognized and removed Thadston's "passenger" sooner and thus been able to work together with him instead of against during the incident with the Blood Son? Was there a way to stop hundreds of innocent folk from flocking to Grishom's call?" Vaemyr clearly asks, "Could we of somehow predicted and prepared for the attack on the militia and the assasination of Khylon to prevent either of both of those acts? Could we of been perhaps working with our merchants sooner to address the safety and fear of the common folk in the town? Could we of prevented a new mother from taking over the Rooks and the need of many people to join them just to feel safe?" Vaemyr clearly says, "I think for many of these the answer quite possible could be no, but for a few? Yes I think we could of done better. Our strengths in this town come from our passions and convictions even our diversity. When we are united, it feels like we are unstoppable, but those passions also lead to the Brotherhood of Rooks, they lead to the need for people wishing for the Darkstone Bay Consortium, and for people to be easier to influenced by cults." Vaemyr clearly says, "Our Town Council will need to do a better. While in this crazy diverse place called Wehnimir's landing, we certainly will not always be unified, but I think I can help work with other smart and passionate people to compromise where there are divides and unify against the threats." Vaemyr says, "And I believe that also answers your clarification as well from my point of view."~Urpy (spoken by Minniemae)~
Minniemae recites: "This year has brought some unique and interesting challenges. While not all of the blame is on the current government of the Landing, there is a decent portion of it that does. I believe the issues we've had are a symptom of a growing problem." Minniemae recites: "The strength of our city comes from the varying strengths and backgrounds of it's citizens. This is also it's largest weakness as many factions have continuously pressed for control to serve their own ends vice the good of the citizenship as a whole. There are rumors that these factions fight as much in Moot Hall as they do in the streets and alleyways." Minniemae recites: "With so many different directions and secretive actions being taken by individuals in public office, it is easy to see how the trust in our government has been shaken. Wehnimer's Landing needs direction and unification, a direction chosen by the duly elected officials rather than by shadowy figures." Minniemae recites: "As to zeal. I appreciate zeal. Enough said." Minniemae recites: "These are my best representation of Lady Urpy's thoughts. I am Minniemae, her Campaign Kid! Vote Lady Urpy!"~Fahlo (spoken by Soliere)~
Soliere recites: "I reject the premise of the question that things went wrong as it assumes we had been on the right path and somehow found ourselves on the wrong one. When hasn't our city faced calamity? Never. When haven't we overcome it? Never. Let us continue on the path of overcoming our adversaries. Let us move forward." Soliere recites: "Fahlo not here ta represent himself 'bout Leafiara's zealousness Soliere recites: "Fahlo a guy dat apreciates ANYBODY what will stand up at a time'a stress an' make they best decisions" Soliere recites: "Ain't nobody perfect, an' all has made mistakes. An' Fahlo where e'er ya be, I hope dat say yer heart in it." Soliere recites: "An' i think it do. He ne'er had a unkind word ta say ta me bout Leafiara. an' dat's all i gots"~Berost (spoken by Soliere)~
Soliere recites: "It was the folks as a whole feelin' they were not ebin heard. Amos an his ilk come ridin' in, makin' promises and people went with it. No other way they had the support, or even tha lack of care from people to lift a finger, to remove an elected official. That be wrong, no matter what who or how ya believe. Should never happen again, period."
Question 2 - Aggression?
~Yardie's Question #2~
Yardie asks, "Moving on to the next question, Let's discuss some of the uses of force in the Landing. Despite being a fraction of the size of, say, Ta'Vaalor, the Landing has some of the fiercest fighters in the world. Yet, there is often this perception of attack first, ask questions later. This was evident in the attack on refugees arriving for the Temple of Ivas, who were killed while seeking asylum. Should you get elected, will you operate with a more tempered approach or eliminate threats before they can manifest?"~Leafiara (herself)~
Leafiara says, "I seek to avoid risking others' lives if I can help it. Throughout the past year I aimed to make carefully measured responses to situations as they arose, with a tendency to focus on the short term ramifications of whether a conflict can be defused to spare some bloodshed." Leafiara says, "So I find it curious that Chandy would say I got overzealous at times and wish she would have named examples." Leafiara says, "When faced with Vlashandra's ultimatum to help her finish the portal or risk hundreds more lives to her reapers by battling her, I turned down the battle to spare people." Leafiara says, "When faced with potential riots and blood in the streets over letting Malluch out of prison, I turned down the battle and pardoned him to spare people." Leafiara says, "When faced with Barnom Slim asking for help returning to Lich's Landing in exchange for him not warring against us, I turned down the battle to spare people." Leafiara says, "Frankly, I think Alosaka's criticism at one of my events that I wasn't zealous enough rings more true than that I was overzealous." Leafiara says, "I'd caution against too heavily glorifying either option of 'tempered approaches' or 'eliminating threats before they can manifest.'." Leafiara says, "During the Gryphons' escort to the Temple of Ivas, it was the Knave, not the town, who attacked refugees, by hurling exploding prisms which became a staple of the group for most of the following year. The Knave's first attacks within Landing gates were likewise against Murdos Burdos' shop and other buildings thought to be associated with the Blood Son." Leafiara says, "The question could be referring to other incidents of attacks against the refugee, which also weren't sanctioned by the town, so let's review those. A few Landing adventurers and Rooks killed refugees after they'd come back *from* the Temple of Ivas to join Grishom Stone. There was also an incident where they were atttacked at the gates." Leafiara says, "However, the attackers were in the minority and I'd recommend looking at the timing. Before either of those attacks, 'asking questions first' is exactly the approach the town tried with Malluch, namely the question of why he had come here." Leafiara says, "That answer was rallying followers to his side by preaching from Stone's memoir and drawing attention to the hundreds of women Stone killed years earlier and a vow to destroy the Landing one day. It's not at all unreasonable that some took Malluch's sermon as a declaration of current intent and tried to preemptively stop him." Leafiara says, "I say this even though I didn't make such moves myself. I largely stayed neutral, as I wasn't willing to send town guards to help with the Gryphons' escort, but also tried to deter Thadston from interrupting it." Leafiara asks, "As Vaemyr illustrated before, let's consider what-ifs. What might have happened if I didn't give Malluch pardon and we instead started killing citizens in the streets over their Grishom Stone sympathizing? What might have happened if, even before that, we all listened to Thadston and attacked the camps?" Leafiara says, "There's no clear answer. If we'd taken such drastic actions, maybe the later blood cult that took over the Brass Tower and unleashed fire elementals in town would have never risen up." Leafiara says, "In other words, maybe our decisions to spare the lives of dozens of refugees and stop a riot only cost the lives of hundreds of Landing citizens later." Leafiara says, "So was it honorable to focus on the situations that stood in front of us based on what we knew, or does the advantage of hindsight vindicate those who attacked preemptively? We'll never know unless we can find Pylasar and have him tell us what occurs in alternate timelines." Leafiara says, "And that's why my approach was and is largely a short-term focus on the immediate situation. I hope this will be counterbalanced by other council members who focus more on the long-term implications. But there is no magic solution to solve every problem without negative repercussions for anyone."~Chandrellia (spoken by Pietra)~
Pietra says, "Per Chandi, As far as use of threats and the Landing having some of the fiercest warriors, first, to me that is a compliment, yes we are a small town, Landing to me is essentially the rock of Elanthia, and because we are so small of a town, certain outsiders think they can just walk in and take over. were mistakes made, sadly yes, again when we try to defend as best we can, we don't always see as clearly as we would like to." Pietra says, "I would definitely be up for a bit more of a how shall I say calmer approach, however in our defense, how many times has anyone actually came to Landing and NOT wanted war? When that many people cause harm to your town, its hard to trust anyone after that."~Faerinn (himself)~
Faerinn says, "I think my record is evident on the 'attack first, never question' philosophy." Faerinn says, "I was one of the proponents of moving the refugees to the Vipershroud Temple. I encouraged Kothos to send his letter to Malluch and in approaching the Gryphons. I was emotional support for him during this fierce and violent pushback he faced for this." Faerinn says, "I fought alongside of the Gryphons bringing the refugees to the Temple all while missing an arm from an exploding prism. During the week the refugees were encamped at the temple, I joined them to lend a helping hand at the Temple." Faerinn says, "This is the type of hands-on council person I would be."~Bekke (spoken by Maylan)~
Maylan recites: "ALWAYS always always ask questions first. One never knows where an ally might be found. To simply disregard all potential and smite is not good for business, growth and opportunity." Maylan says, "You know, I think that means is that you ask a whole lotta questions." Maylan says, "And then if they give the wrong answers, then you bash them with a big stick." Maylan says, "Bekke doesn't have that problem though. She's very good at making friends." Maylan says, "For making friends instead of stick bashing, she's your gal." Maylan says, "She's very fancy with friends in high places, like that mysterious Hall of Mages." Maylan yells, "I've got your stick right here!" Maylan thumps her mop-fringed pegleg on the floor in three rapid successions. Maylan says, "But she also has little friends, like me." Maylan says, "I'm just a lowly Mop Girl livin round Shanty Town parts, but she's been my friend for a long long time." Maylan says, "Friends high and friends low, lotsa questions, lotsa sticks."~Chamorr (himself)~
Chamorr heartily says, "Attacking first questions later question." Chamorr heartily says, "Well." Chamorr heartily says, "It always better to try to be peaceful first, defensisive movements are the best." Chamorr heartily says, "We are not barbarians." Chamorr heartily says, "We are hooligans." Chamorr heartily says, "Done."~Vaemyr (himself)~
Vaemyr clearly says, "So I'm going to take this in a couple parts. The first is I do think we could do better to be able to resolve some incidents without the use of force, or rather at least focus our force wiser. To do this I think this mainly will rely on our strengthening some aspects of our militia, intelligence, and diplomacy. I also think we could clarify the laws against vigilantism in our town. There is no reason we should be issuing bounties on folks for trying to defend us against attackers when our adventurer's do the same with little to no consequence." Vaemyr clearly says, "However, I'd like to address some of this question, as I believe it is missing many facts. In the attack on the refugees, as they traveled to the Temple of Ivas, it was not the landing's typical staunt defenders attacking. In fact WE were escorting and protecting them that night." Vaemyr clearly says, "Also as Leafiara just mentioned, in the more recent incidents with Barnom Slim and Vlashandra, we managed to avoid another bloodie encounter that perhaps we shouldn't of. But our forces were thin at the time, and to a slim majority that included many prominant defenders and Thadston it seemed the best strategic move to ensure we could still defeat the knaves forces. Which we did. But that leads us to perhaps having a larger battle with Slim or Vlashandra in the future, so maybe we should of chosen attack first? Time will tell." Vaemyr clearly says, "I don't believe there will ever be a "right" answer to many of these problems, but I do think I do pretty well looking at some of these hard situations and help offer better solutions, but I also don't believe I'll shy away from using force against threats like the Blood Cult because no diplomancy will ever suffice there."~Urpy (spoken by Minniemae)~
Minniemae recites: "Our great city needs it's defenders, defenders made up of the citizenship! It is my desire to work closely with the militia to provide support, organization, and training so that such travesties as slaughtering asylum seekers shall not be repeated." Minniemae recites: "Decisive action is critical at times, but action without the consideration of innocent lives is callous and shows lack of training and discipline." Minniemae recites: "These are my best representation of Lady Urpy's thoughts. I am Minniemae, her Campaign Kid! Vote Lady Urpy!"~Fahlo (himself)~
Fahlo asks, "What makes the best yoke and leash to bridle our city's warriors?" Fahlo says, "Votes for tyrants, cast by fools."~Berost (spoken by Soliere)~
Soliere recites: Can't rightly be sayin' without know all tha facts. Every situation be different. Example bein if blood cult folk show up, I would swing tha weapon meself. We are accepting of all walk an all folks, but there be some that is jest too much an too far. Again, though, hard to say without knowing tha situation ... mayhaps some we should be fightin' first; others we might need ta listen."
Question 3 - The Consortium?
~Yardie's Question #3~
Yardie asks, "Okay, so let's move on to the next question: Let's discuss the Darkstone Bay Consortium. According to Amos, a person who I know you're all familiar with, the group manifested due to the fatigue from constant fighting without consideration to the repercussions of the merchants and everyday citizens. Do you think they have merit to their complaints? Would you work with them? Why or why not?"~Leafiara (herself)~
Leafiara assures, "Don't worry, this one's more 'Vaemyr length' and less 'Leafi length'." Leafiara winks. Leafiara says, "Not just the Consortium's concerns, but any citizens' concerns need to be voiced to town officials since they aren't mind readers. The militia, town guards, and other town defenders are doing all we can think of as we think of it, and will do more if ideas are brought to us." Leafiara says, "That's why, just like Chandy mentioned, I and many others did ask for a sit down meeting with all Consortium members shortly after it formed, to hear out what more should be done. At that time, Amos rejected such a meeting." Leafiara says, "Nonetheless, the offer stands. Yes, I will hear the Consortium out." Leafiara says, "More importantly, I'll hear out any other citizen. What can't stand is the ongoing favorable treatment of Consortium members in demanding changes to the laws as they wish." Leafiara says, "No citizen is more important than any other, so let's hear from Aznell, Quaeta, Edwina, Tykel, Lute, Krythussa, Pherantyr, Iron Jack, and the list goes on. Perhaps they feel differently than the Consortium and that's why they're not members of it." Leafiara says, "No matter how open the offer to listen, the onus is on people to speak or, at least, send letters detailing their troubles and concerns. Share your voice and we will make progress together."~Chandrellia (spoken by Pietra)~
Pietra says, "Most importantly, communication is key. Not a single merchant stepped up to say what their concerns were. Leafiara even offered to meet, only Amos showed up. But strangely, not a single other merchant showed up to express their concerns." Pietra says, "I would love to work with them, and gain back their trust in our towns defenses and I also understand it could take a lot to do such a thing. I feel that so long as the council can work together and work thru our issues, I think its possible." Pietra says, "Done."~Faerinn (himself)~
Faerinn says, "I absolutely think there is merit to these claims which is why I am in fact a member in good standing of the Consortium. They were the only ones speaking for the home and the businesses exploding daily. And on the claims they overthrew the government, Alendrial and Cordarius had every opportunity to overthrow the decision. I even called upon them to do it. The previous Towncouncil supported the decision and ratified it." Faerinn says, "That said as councilperson I would demand a immediate plan to stand down the Armigers from Dunigan to be replacade in his ranks by locals submitted to the newly elected Mayor for our vote."~Bekke (spoken by Maylan)~
Maylan recites: "Now you folks know that Bekke has been away on important Magister business, and so she's been very busy taking extra time to catch up on the current happenings." Maylan recites: "From what she's gleamed so far, she told me to say this one" Maylan recites: "There are merits to their complaints, but they do not have the right to dictate and implement any wish or whim. There are factions of criminality. There cannot be factions of townspeople unwilling to work together in order to clean up this mess." Maylan exclaims, "Yarr, we work together! With our big questions and our big sticks!" Maylan says, "WE WORK TOGETHER."~Chamorr (himself)~
Chamorr heartily says, "I think the consortium to be more dangerous than the rooks." Chamorr heartily says, "They threw our duly elected mayor out of office and tore down our government." Chamorr heartily says, "I do say i think the new council will be a welcomed change though." Chamorr heartily says, "So down with the consortium." Chamorr heartily says, "Done."~Vaemyr (himself)~
Vaemyr says, "The Darkstone Bay Consortium made logical sense. We've had a lot of conflict in the town the past several years, and because of it, much less time to address the needs of our citizens. Combat in the streets, destruction of shops, robbery are all bad for business." Vaemyr says, "So I do think they had plenty of merit to try and band together, and use their strengths to try and make the Landing a better place. And in that capacity, I will be more than happy to work with long-standing merchants and citizens of this town, who obviously have a considerible interest in it's well being." Vaemyr says, "That said, I think they reached too far several times, and due to our lack of clarification in our own laws, they were able to do so legally. They should no of been able to appoint a temporary judge, they should not of been able to remove the mayor from her office and suspend rightful elections. And the fact that they took those actions, our council should be aware of as we need to work together in the future." Vaemyr says, "However, our new charter does much to solve these. It's exactly that reason that we are now look to have more representation for the town in our new council, and that what the consortium was able to do, would be much more difficult for an oranization to accomplish in the future."~Urpy (spoken by Minniemae)~
Minniemae recites: "Merchants and shopkeepers in the audience, please understand you are as a rich spring in a vast desert. Without you, we would steadily fade and for that I thank you. That being said, Merchants and shopkeepers, you are citizens!" Minniemae recites: "As citizens it is your right, nay, your duty to vote and be involved in choosing the best candidates for our city. You, just like every other citizen must choose elected officials together, not strangers who's sudden appearance leaves many a foul taste in the mouth of the average citizen. As much as this city relies on you, you rely on us citizens for nourishment." Several of the darkened leaves on Yardie's ebonwood armband slowly bend across the wood until their vein-spliced surfaces come to rest against his skin. Minniemae recites: "Keeping our town running is a partnership and must forever remain as such lest we all starve and wither. While I understand you may feel your concerns have fallen on deaf ears of late, I will stand against any who interfere with the lawful election process of this city and issue demands." Minniemae recites: "I want to work with you, as your representative and your voice in our government to resolve your concerns and protect your commerce. Work with me and your fellow citizens to strengthen this city. The last thing we all need is another shadowy organization trying to seize control." Minniemae recites: "These are my best representation of Lady Urpy's thoughts.I am Minniemae, her Campaign Kid! Vote Lady Urpy!"~Fahlo (himself)~
Fahlo asks, "What would a Town Council become if it served the interests of but one selfish man?" Fahlo says, "A consortium of slaves."~Berost (spoken by Soliere)~
Soliere recites: "No, they exploited people's fears of tha defenders of this town an what we trying to keep safe. Amos be in it fer himself and himself only. Maybe in it for whoever is pullin his strings, cuz ain't no doubt he not acting on his own. I would work with that citizens to hear their concerns and views. Amos, be he mayor or some other title he makes up, I will oppose at every turn."
Question 4 - The Landing Militia?
~Yardie's Question #4~
Yardie recites: "And now, Darcena's question which I will break into two parts."" Yardie begins, "What do you feel are the current strengths and weaknesses of the Wehnimer's Landing Militia and how do you plan to boost their strengths and shore up weaknesses? How do you plan to develop and maintain the relationship between the Council and the Wehnimer's Landing Militia if you are elected? What do you envision as the relationship between the Wehnimer's Landing Town Guard and the Wehnimer's Landing Militia?" Yardie concludes, "If you don't know much about these topics, how do you plan to change that? What is your thought on other community organizations that may be misunderstood or under utilized, as well, and how do you plan to showcase their strengths and collaboratively work with them to give everyone a chance to be heard?" Yardie says, "It's a long question, admittedly, but as she IS the Captain, and will be working with you, it deserved to be answered."~Leafiara (herself)~
Leafiara says, "The militia's primary strength, now under Marshal Stormy who's finally where she should have been since three years ago when Thrayzar was abducted, is a measured, caring, thoughtful, and devoted leader at the top, paired with unbridled passion and dedication from members at the bottom." Leafiara says, "The militia's primary weakness is that it's unclear what, if anything, militia members are currently able to contribute in defense of the town that any other citizen isn't able to contribute. This leads to many dedicated town defenders who would be good fits not joining. Like Vaemyr pointed out in an earlier question tonight, whenever we face threats, we welcome help from all citizens and even non-citizens." Leafiara says, "I would like to persuade the next mayor and Steward Alendrial to fund shipbuilding, improve scouting and other intel, and enable more consistent training regimens by improving militia supplies and offering anything else the militia need in that regard." Leafiara says, "Giving militia members more resources will answer the question of how they're better able to defend the town. Creating new roles like a militia navy or re-emphasizing older ones like scouts will funnel the lower ranks of the militia into positions best suited for their talents." Leafiara says, "Vaemyr already mentioned some of my points earlier tonight as well..." Leafiara says, "So I can skip many things..." Leafiara says, "But suffice it to say I'm in absolutely agreement that we need a consistent definition of what does and doesn't constitute vigilantism. Right now it's unclear what Rone did differently than the myriad other adventurers who happened to be in the area that same night and followed Sir Cryheart to help put an end to the abduction and attempted sacrifice of citizens by the blood cult." Leafiara says, "That night being the controversial arrest of the then-Captains." Leafiara says, "Room for interpretation is good in some laws, but defending the town is a matter of life and death in which we can't afford unclear laws."~Chandrellia (spoken by Pietra)~
Pietra says, "I feel we need a more active role with the militia when invasions happen. Public training exercises are crucial to letting the citizens and merchants see just how things work. The guard needs to allow the militia more leeway when needed. And the militia needs to be more visible and vocal with the town." Pietra says, "The actions by the guard against Stormy and Shinann should not have happened. That was their call to make. I hope should I be elected to join the militia at minimum for training exercises to better understand how they operate and answer questions better pertaining to them."~Faerinn (himself)~
Faerinn says, "I consider the militia's greatest weakness their barracks and ship. Those should be replaced as soon as possible. Among my proposals is a new cultural festival to replace Frontier Days as a fundraiser for defenses. The militia's greatest strength is their unity of purpose. In order to best play to that strength I would work towards a very clear separation of powers between the Guard and Militia." Faerinn says, "I would meet with militia officers regularly to maintain this relationship. I have already mentioned earlier my intentions to have the Armigers burden our coffers no longer."~Bekke (spoken by Maylan)~
Maylan exclaims, "Yarr, the militia's biggest strength is its strong leadership!" Maylan says, "Yer weakness is yer lack of members! Therefore, Bekke and I are introducing a new recruitment program." Maylan says, "First of all, we'll rename the Militia to The Landing Wolf Pack." Maylan exclaims, "Because wow! Doesn't that sound fun to join? Wow!" Maylan says, "Who wouldn't want to join that? Oh my." Maylan says, "Second off, we're introducing perks for members! You join the militia, you get A FREE SALMON." A blood red mist leaks from Maylan's palms as she prepares a spell... There is a bright flash and a filet of miso-glazed salmon appears in the air, then falls into Maylan's right hand. Maylan licks her miso-glazed salmon. Maylan exclaims, "Oh my gosh, salmon for all the militia members!" Maylan drops a filet of miso-glazed salmon. A blood red mist leaks from Maylan's palms as she prepares a spell... There is a bright flash and a filet of miso-glazed salmon appears in the air, then falls into Maylan's right hand. Maylan licks her miso-glazed salmon. Maylan exclaims, "So much salmon, they'll come runnin!" Maylan drops a filet of miso-glazed salmon. A blood red mist leaks from Maylan's palms as she prepares a spell... There is a bright flash and a filet of miso-glazed salmon appears in the air, then falls into Maylan's right hand. Maylan licks her miso-glazed salmon. Maylan exclaims, "Salmon for everyone!" Maylan drops a filet of miso-glazed salmon. Maylan says, "As to relations, well I plan to have relations with the Town Guard." Maylan says, "You know..." Maylan winks. Maylan winks. Maylan winks. Maylan says, "So in conclusion, we shall bolster member ranks through our marketing and salmon campaign, and maintain relations through our sexual prowess."~Chamorr (himself)~
Chamorr heartily says, "The militias strength is in the new leadership stormy shinann darcena." Chamorr heartily says, "Its weakness is, as was said , lack of membership." Chamorr heartily says, "So many town defenders operatin on thier own, i have to say am one of them." Chamorr heartily says, "Tomorrow i am joining the militia an will encourage everyone to do so to help protect our town."~Vaemyr (himself)~
Vaemyr says, "I believe the strengths and weaknesses of the militia both derive from some of the strengths and weaknesses of our town. It is comprised of pationate folks who do want to try and do the right things to defend the Landing, but I feel it has also been a bit paralyzed at times by that diversity." Vaemyr says, "I hope to encourage the Council to have regular meetings with the militia leadership. We should help them understand political situations in town and potential threats, and they can help advise us how to handle those threats. Also through this regular communication we can hopefully make sure that the resources we are supplying in our defense is being allocated in the right ways. I believe this will also help keep the militia members united as the see themselves working more closely with the town and government so that when difficult times come we'll be ready with swift and decise actions." Vaemyr says, "In addition, and this would be one of the discussions of one of those meetings, I hope that the militia can establish a scouting and intelligence group, perhaps recruit some ex-rooks with specialized skills in the matter. That way we hopefully will not be as blindsided by some threats as we have in the past." Vaemyr says, "I also believe we can do better with many of the other private organizations in the town that help defend it like the Order of the Gryphons. I would also like to hold regular meetings with all the private houses of groups to do much the same. For one it can prevent some overlap and confusion between them and our Militia or Guard, and for another it will keep both the organizations and council better informed." Vaemyr says, "Hopefully that covers all of those questions."~Urpy (spoken by Minniemae)~
Minniemae recites: "I touched on this a bit on the second question. The militia's strength is our wonderful fighters and defenders who are willing to lay down their lives and face any threat, be it fire or fiend." Minniemae recites: "I have been among the defenders protecting this city for nearly twenty years and I have seen the power we collectively can bring to battles. The issue with the militia is it is disorganized. Combat is chaos and we lack the structure to deploy forces about the city where they are needed in a rapid fashion." Minniemae recites: "I want to work with the militia to establish a more formal rank structure, complete with dedicated roles. These roles should, in my opinion, include scouts who can stay out of harms way and a central command that can use scouts reports to counter enemy tactics. I do not wish to see the militia formed into a military, I merely wish it to be trained and ready should it be needed." Minniemae recites: "I want to establish a more firm cooperation between the guards and the militia. As many a kobold has found out, the guard has very experienced archers and hearty fighters among their ranks. That said, there has been concerns about safety and security inside our walls. I want to reinforce the guard such that they have the numbers to patrol our streets regularly for threats." Minniemae recites: "There are many other organizations ran by citizens that operate to defend our city. I would like to set the frame work for a cooperative union among them. Regular strategy meetings, planning meetings, and mutual drill or patrols come to mind. We all want to keep the Landing safe and sound, lets work as one to do so!" Minniemae recites: "These are my best representation of Lady Urpy's thoughts. I am Minniemae, her Campaign Kid! Vote Lady Urpy!"~Fahlo (himself)~
Fahlo says, "The Militia is strong and obedient. It serves those who command it." Fahlo says, "If it is seen as weak then the blame does not fall on its Captains and constituents, there are not weak people among them; the blame falls upon those who compose, interpret, and wield the laws to which the Militia must abide." Fahlo says, "With what amount of bravery and courage does a mercenary guard our town? The same amount you pay them." Fahlo says, "With what amount of bravery and courage does a mercenary attack our town? The same amount they are paid." Fahlo says, "We put our homes up for ransom when we go about purchasing their protection. No city is safe when its walls are held up by hired hands." Fahlo says, "Have our hearts grown dim? Has our passion left us?" Fahlo says, "What terrible lies! We've all fought, bled, and died for our city. We've all kept the walls from crumbling down, and here we stand." Fahlo asks, "With what currency were we bribed to action?" Fahlo says, "None but the lodestar paid in friendship."~Berost (spoken by Soliere)~
Soliere recites: "Berost didn't get ta answer dis question, but... i hope i represents him well when i says..." Soliere recites: "Dat he apreciates our militia as i does. Dat he woud work with em any way hims coud. An' woud be open ta suggestions fer how ta best do it..." Soliere recites: "An' again here, i'm speakin me own words not exactly what in Berost's head" Soliere recites: "But based on me chats wi'him: He'd want alla military organizations, Both perfessional an' casual ones, E'en regular citizens not representin any organization, Ta work together" Soliere says, "Dats best i kin do on it."
Question 5 - Racism? Slavery? War?
~Yardie's Question #5~
Yardie recites: "I've heard many of the candidates discuss the tolerance of the Landing, but that seems to be contradictory at times. For starters, we have merchants who set prices based on race. There have been previous talks of concerns for Vaalor, even willing to wage war. There's even been accounts of the Dhe'nar and slavery in the Landing. As Town Councilperson, do you think these are matters of concerns and if so, how would you address them? (Note: Question number 5 was not asked during the debate. The following answers were pre-submitted."~Leafiara (herself)~
Leafiara says, "Change usually isn't as quick as I'd like." Leafiara says, "A bit over three years ago, part of Lylia's campaign was the "One Landing, One Price" movement, which received a good measure of support from many townspeople. However, the merchants disagreed and made no moves to change their pricing. One might say that conflicts with merchants who acted on their own accord to make legally permissible but morally questionable moves is one thing that my term and her first term had in common." Leafiara says, "Regardless, that push from 5118 might finally be bearing fruit since Larton recently relayed that the Consortium is now in talks about pricing in town. I'll encourage that along." Leafiara says, "The concern about Vaalor is also rooted in 5118. That year, Ta'Vaalor surprised the West when it made simultaneous demands for free use of the air space over Icemule and for constructing an outpost near the Vipershroud. Many did recoil and brace for the worst. However, tensions mostly dissolved after the Turamzzyrian Empire permitted the outpost while drawing a line in the sand that Vaalor was to go no further." Leafiara says, "Still, some have concerns to this day, especially since witnesses saw King Qalinor Vaalor at the Valley of Gold in 5119 frowning as Imperial nobles and Elven Nations nobles signed a peace treaty that he called an unnecessary formality. So I'd simply say to prepare for any possibility, but will make no hasty or preemptive moves." Leafiara says, "As for the Dhe'nar and slaves, my understanding is that slavery is already illegal in the Landing, but like I mentioned earlier, the laws here often range from fuzzy to incoherent. If the slaves are kept outside of the gates, that's outside of town jurisdiction. If inside the gates, we'll have to look into that." Leafiara says, "I'll conclude with this... No one gets into the realm of public service, nor even tries for it, without wanting to make dramatic changes and hoping that we can. However, the example of merchant pricing mentioned in this question is a good reminder that no matter how earnest our intent, it's not always possible for change to happen instantly." Leafiara says, "All that I or any of us can promise is that we'll hear you out, we'll initiate talks with the necessary officials and other citizens, we'll draft proposals, and we'll present them. Whether they become reality or how long that takes is another matter."~Chandrellia (herself)~
Chandrellia says, "First, sadly merchants have a right to set their prices as they see fit, do I think its fair, no, should every citizen be treated equal yes, however lets face it, how many of you treat every single person around the exact same way? would I like to see equality for all races, sure, its been an ongoing thing for as long as I can remember, and that's been a very long time. as far as doing anything about it, again, its not just me, there is a system in place that we must abide by, some of you think that we as council will have full run of whatever it is, that's not the case, we do answer to others with our actions, so all we can do is the best we can with what we have. Second, this war on Vaalor, I have no idea why this is even brought up, if the Empire wanted to over run us they are a big enough force that they most likely could without issues, sure there is those that joke about invading the Nations, right along side Mule and Haven. I think most need to look at what can be and cant be accomplished." Chandrellia says, "We have a Hendorian outpost right outside our gates, yet, never once have they given any ill threats to our town, and in return we as a town have never given any ill threats to them, we have dined with the members of the outpost on several occasions, they have helped defend this town. now lets talk about the Dhe'nar and slavery, first, from what I have learned to some its considered custom to own slaves, have I seen any dark elven slave rings inside Landing walls? no. could there be such things, sure I suppose, but unless it is brought to the open, I am sure our hands would be tied, to just assume something and then go in blind would be as devastating as those that were slaughtered going to the temple." Chandrellia says, "As far as addressing these concerns, should they be brought to light and adequate and proven information is given to show these, rumors, have validity then we as a council, could look into them and decide the best approach for such issues. I'm sure Marshal Stormyrain, Commander Shinann, and Captain Darcena would be aware of such things if there was any truth to them. The town guard is responsible for those within the walls to uphold the law set in place by those of the governing body. I would hope again that if such things were true the town guard would step in and stop this action."~Faerinn (himself)~
Faerinn says, "This is what I mean by the Landing having equality but not equity. While birth does not determine one's standing there is a very strong intolerance towards outsiders, and mountains of conspiracy theories chasing "interloper" bogey men. It is a matter of concern, I believe this is a result of the vocal minority and Rook radicalization. I have already spoken at length on how I will address both, and I will spare you the repeat." Faerinn says, "On the topic of slavery, I deplore all slavers. I counted the Brewmaster’s death as a service to the global good. We unfortunately cannot do anything about the Dhe'nar's slavery without expanding our jurisdiction, which is something I have proposed."~Bekke (herself)~
Bekke's response to Question 5 was unavailable.~Chamorr (himself)~
Chamorr says, "Unfortunately, racism is rife throughout Elanthia. Illy against dark elfs, Vaalor against half elfs. I have personally been abused by racism, and it should not be a part of the Landing's structure. We can only hope to educate our merchants to the ill will racism causes, I think laws to prevent it only make it worse. The Dhe'nar with their slaves, any person that is in the Landing and asks for freedom from any bondage should immediately have it."~Vaemyr (himself)~
Vaemyr says, "So, from my experiences around the world, I do actually feel like the Landing is a step above most places as far as general tolerance toward people. There's a reason it's so popular amongst various misfits, travelers, folks who's lost their other homes, and more." Vaemyr says, "But yes there are some lingering issues in town. I would support the previous Mayor Lylia's one landing one price initiative. For too long we've allowed some citizens to pay higher costs for no other reason than their blood. That should stop." Vaemyr says, "As for war, I know there have been murmurings about a potential war with Vaalor, but I believe most of that has past at this point. If anything our recent cooperation with them and other nations over the Krolvin and Manticore situation has lessened tensions there, so I hope to continue to work toward improving those relationships going forward." Vaemyr says, "Now, for slavery, I'm against basically any and all forms of slavery and I would fight with everything I had to prevent it from ever taking hold in the Landing. However, the reach of our town is limited. The fact is that slavery has been a part of Dhe'nar culture for a long time and trying to address that issue as a whole is way beyond the scope of something our town can or should try and tackle. We will of course protect our citizens and those in our authority from slavery, but we also are not going to go try and re-educate an entire culture to try and convince them they are wrong."~Urpy (herself)~
Urpy says, "Let each citizen hear me clearly as I repeat myself! The strength of our city comes from it's people. We are ONE people regardless of race, class, or creed we are all Wehnimer's Landing. We must set aside our biases and stand together as a bulwark against any and all who threaten our city. While I cannot force people to release these merchants or individuals to release their harmful opinions of other races, I can and do actively promote inclusion for all my fellow citizens." Urpy says, "With regards to slavery, I issue a warning. Any who keep unwilling company, I will not tolerate your presence. I did not flee chains twenty years ago to witness others suffering that fate. I advise you free your slaves and flee in that order. By crook or by blade you will be found and you will be brought to justice."~Fahlo (himself)~
Fahlo says, "A city's strength is measured by the care it has for its people. What afflicts our neighbor, wounds us all."~Berost (himself)~
Berost says, "We each an all unique. Some of me dwarven ways prolly seem strange, same as some cultures be lookin' off ta me eyes. I kin accept that. However, ya takin folk again their will? Ain't right. Setting prices based on that culture? Meh, it's yer shop do what ya like, don't mean I got to shop there though. I ain't tryin to go to war with any of these nations, jest tryin' to ensure our town is safe and prosperous for ALL folks."
Question 6 - Work with Mayor?
~Yardie's Question #6~
Yardie asks, "Considering that this is a new role, and with consideration to a possible election for Mayor, what do you think the role of Councilperson should entail and how will you operate with a future Mayor? If someone like Thadston or Amos were elected or appointed to the position, would you be able to work with them and possibly fall in line to a decision you may find unfavorable?"~Leafiara (herself)~
Leafiara says, "The town council role isn't truly as new as it might seem, merely reversed. In the previous system, the mayor collected ideas from the people and proposed laws to the town council for them to approve or deny. In this one, the town council collects ideas from the people and proposes laws to the mayor." Leafiara says, "The phrasing about 'falling in line'... If that's asking whether I'd cease opposing a decision I disagree with, the answer is no. The law is not the end-all, be-all. They're superceded by the moral values that we use to guide the creation of laws in the first place, and we can't and won't stand for unjust laws." Leafiara says, "'If we find ourselves in a situation where the town elects Amos as the mayor after electing me or any number of other council candidates who clearly have opposed philosophies, I think the most reasonable interpretation would be that the citizens *want* a hard clash between council and mayor keeping each other in check." Leafiara says, "'as for Thadston, I like him a great deal, though sometimes I get the impression he doesn't realize that. We have a lot in common and I completely understand his unending struggle to quell the worst of his instincts. He did err in not asking for help with the bleakwalker for the sooner, but that aside, he pulls through for us in the end almost every time. I hope he runs and there are very few in town who I'd rather see win."~Chandrellia (spoken by Pietra)~
Pietra says, "Right off the bat, I don't feel either Thadston or Amos is fit to be Mayor, Thadston for his quick temper, and Amos for all those he has in his pockets. We don't need either." Pietra says, "I feel it is the duty of the council and its members to keep the citizens up to date on important findings and decisions made by the council for the town. Transparency is needed to keep the trust of this town and its citizens. A lot has happened over the past year, and tension is high and nerves are worn, I understand that deeply."~Faerinn (himself)~
Faerinn says, "I see the role of the new council to act as liaison between residents of the Landing and the Mayor. To bring the voices of those silenced to the Mayors ears and vote with their concerns in mind." Faerinn says, "As for Thadston and Amos, I have worked with both and been a vocal detractor when either have acted out of line. I have literally butted heads with Thadston only to help him cast out his literal inner demons. I've joined Amos's organization despite not always seeing eye to eye with him. I am an idealist in my goals and a pragmatist in my actions."~Bekke (spoken by Maylan)~
Maylan says, "Bekke thinks of the council not as a mechanic for change, but as a mechanic for watchfulness, to keep the Mayor from making poor decisions and mistakes that would effect the citizenry. Therefore, if there is something that she does not agree with, or feels will be harmful - there will be no "falling in line"."~Chamorr (himself)~
Chamorr heartily says, "The council will act as check and balance to the new mayor, to bring cooler heads and thoughts to his agenda." Chamorr heartily says, "I am not fond of either one as mayor, however, if the folks elect a mayor, then my job would be to watch him." Chamorr heartily says, "Ya puts yer sticks on the scale."~Vaemyr (himself)~
Vaemyr says, "The council will need to work with whoever the mayor emds up being. I believe the good citizens of our town to to pick out good people for both mayor and our council, and if after a campaign they do decide either Thadston or Amos are the right ones for mayor? I will happy to work with either for the good of the town." Vaemyr says, "However, it is not the job of the council to fall in line with the mayor. Compromise? Of course. Suggest, and even argue with? Certainly. But fall in line? Never. We're the representitives of the people, and a very important check on the power of the mayor. I think everyone in this room will find ways to work with our future mayor, but I hope none of us just fall in line."~Urpy (spoken by Minniemae)~
Minniemae recites: "The role of a councilperson is to be the people's voice in our government, as I understand it. We should listen to the concerns of citizens, meet and discuss these issues, and find the best path to accomplish the will of the people. I will work with any lawfully elected official to accomplish this, regardless of my personal opinions towards the individual. Elected officials are servants to the people and beholden to their will." Minniemae recites: "These are my best representation of Lady Urpy's thoughts. I am Minniemae, her Campaign Kid! Vote Lady Urpy!"~Fahlo (himself)~
Fahlo says, "I will not toe a line drawn by a tyrant."~Berost (spoken by Soliere)~
Soliere recites: "Now we back ta Berost's actual thoughts here" Soliere recites: "Council should be the people tha folk can come an speak to. We be taking their concerns to the Mayor an others. We should advise and ensure ta the best we can that the town be steered in a way that helps as many folk as possible. Ya heard what me views on Amos be earlier. Thadston, eh, he a different creature all together. Me focus is and will be on what I feel be best fer all the folk of the town."
Question 7 - Work with each other?
~Yardie's Question #7~
Yardie recites: "As the Council will consist of four members, the lot of you will be forced to work together. It is a familiar talking point for many of the campaigns to state that they would work with anyone and have no preferences, but there's a bit of contradiction. In fact, to her credit, Chandrellia has been the only person to admit that people have favorites. In fact, Team Cha-Cha is a slogan clamoring for BOTH individuals to be elected based on what THEY can bring. And of course, individuals like Faerinn and Leafiara are not without their polarized images. Set the record, would you be able to work with anyone or do you have a preference or who to work with? If so, who and why?" (Note: Question number 7 was not asked during the debate. The following answers were pre-submitted.~Leafiara (herself)~
Leafiara says, "The council is forced to work with the mayor, but actually not necessarily each other. Depending on who the town votes for, the town council might operate as a unit, as four separate individuals, or something in between. They might or might not convene over decisions. They might hold public meetings as a group, as individuals, or not at all." Leafiara says, "To the question, there's a false dichotomy. Yes, I'd be able to work with anyone. Yes, I have personal preferences. There is no "or." There's also a third unasked question that's even more important, since who I'd personally like to work with isn't necessarily the same as who I'll vote for, nor the same as who I think is best for the Landing." Leafiara says, "Who I'd like to work with, personally, is Chamorr, Vaemyr, and Chandrellia. All three have challenged me in various ways. Chamorr with his strength of conviction and championing the Landing against Imperial nobles or trial officiators. Vaemyr with hours of philosophical back-and-forth during and before this campaign season. Chandrellia with her unmatched love of the community. I think Chamorr is the most natural leader among candidates, Vaemyr the most eloquent, and Chandy the best able to source ideas from people around her." Leafiara says, "That said, just working with my personal preferences might not serve the town well. Is it better to have a council that's in near-perfect harmony with similar talents and perspectives, or better to have a diverse one that pools the widest array of strengths? In the latter case, then maybe Magister Bekke and Fahlo would be better, for example. They have great talents at digging into corners of the community and forming deep connections, and both are pragmatic to contrast my idealism." Leafiara says, "I could truly argue for anyone, but the choice belongs to the town: vote for synchronicity, diversity, or meet in the middle. Ultimately, I can work with anything."~Chandrellia (herself)~
Chandrellia says, "It seems the same questions get asked at all the events we had, I do remember a question similar to this just this past event, anyways, I am confident that no matter who gets elected as town council, we will be able to work with each other. Its our differences that will keep the council strong and in check, do I feel people have favorites, of course I do, just like I know the citizens themselves already have their favorites of who they are going to vote, and this was decided even before any events took place, or this debate took place, the moment the names came out as to who was running, the citizens already had their choices in their heads. I do not have a preference as who to work with, every person running has their strong points and their weak points. with such a wide diversity of opinions and ideas, I think there will be enough for each candidate to work well with the others."~Faerinn (himself)~
Faerinn says, "Like in most other aspects of my life I take on all comers." Faerinn grins. Faerinn says, "But I do have my preferences. With the showing of the candidates so far I would be most excited to work with Vaemyr and Bekke. Fahlo has said some interesting things I would like to hear more about. I have to also admit an excitement in clashing over issues with Leafiara and Berost."~Bekke (herself)~
Bekke's response to Question 7 was unavailable.~Chamorr (himself)~
Chamorr says, "The people vote for the Council, then, if elected, it is my duty to work with whoever the folks have elected. Not to agree, but to work for the betterment of the Landing."~Vaemyr (himself)~
Vaemyr says, "I think that one of my strengths in this election is that I can work very well and get along with all the candidates. I can respect that they all have various strengths and could bring value to our council. As far as my preference, I really don’t have one, even if that seems strange.” Vaemyr says, "Leafiara has repeatedly stated that she thinks we think alike on many issues, so I’m sure we’d do well together. Bekke and I share a very inquisitive approach to solving problems, and there would be few problems indeed that could survive a team up of our skills.” Vaemyr says, "Faerinn and I both agree on many progressive thoughts as far as education and ensuring we try and work with the various groups of our town. Chamorr and Berost would provide hard heads to keep me on track and good moral centers.” Vaemyr says, "Fahlo and I have gotten along for a long time, he was even essential for introducing me to many of these fellow candidates in fact when I returned to the landing from my travels. Urpy and Chandrellia both I think would provide a great passion and spirit that would supplement my rational thinking.” Vaemyr says, "So, really however the council turns out I would look forward to working with any combination of this fine group on candidates.”~Urpy (herself)~
Urpy says, "I am a citizen, I doubt any exist that do not have favorites among the candidates. I even consider several of them to be my friends. The reason I have refused to state who I would prefer to work with is because I do not wish to unintentionally ostracize any of my possible colleagues. If I am elected, I will work with them regardless of my personal feelings because the will and concerns of the people are more important. So, to answer your question, yes I do have a preference of who I would rather work with. No, I will not state that preference in the interest of future teamwork."~Fahlo (himself)~
Fahlo says, "I will not work with those who will not serve our people."~Berost (himself)~
Berost says, "I be able to work with most everyone that be runnin'. No issues there. Me views on the Consortium be against one of the candidates though. If we both on the council I am certain we would have some "interesting" talks. Again, I be sayin it alot, I am looking to support the town in its needs. Not any other group or faction or other idiocy."
Question 8 - Why elect you?
~Yardie's Question #8~
Yardie recites: "Finally, I will give each of you the opportunity to tell the public as to why you should be elected as Councilperson and the uniqueness you have to offer. What do you bring that no other candidate can bring?"~Leafiara (herself)~
Leafiara says, "Among the candidates this year, my ability to assemble people as a community organizer is unparalleled." Leafiara says, "My work is widely known as an officer of Twilight Hall, an officer of the TownCrier, and a Lorekeeper at Silverwood Manor. My presence is felt even at events held by Ord an Dragan, in which I'm not an officer, and the Drakes Vanguard, in which I'm not even a member. I have longstanding relationships with the majority of the town council in neighboring Icemule." Leafiara says, "I have the widest array of connections of any candidate, across organizations and relationships as diverse as the Landing itself. That's why you can trust, through my history, that I'm the candidate most able to meet with any citizen or council member alike and work through honest, challenging discussions and difficult decisions."~Chandrellia (spoken by Pietra)~
Pietra says, "I do not know the history of Landing as deeply as some. What I do know, is that ever since I have stepped foot into this town, I have been greeted warmly and with compassion. I have healed the dead and the living during times of war and invasions. This IS my home, and forever will be." Pietra says, "Honestly, it doesn't matter what I can bring as this isn't just about me, this council is about the town, the citizens of it. I want opinions from the citizens for ideas, things they would like to see happen, in order for me to bring something no other candidate can." Pietra exclaims, "Once again, its not a me thing, its an US thing, we are a team working together for the betterment of Landing. We need you as to help us all. You want something no one else can bring? Then let us know what it is so we can work together, and find a solution!" Pietra exclaims, "Also, Chandrellia is awesome!"~Faerinn (himself)~
Faerinn says, "As for something only I can bring....that would be a good reputation abroad and reporte with international leaders. Not even Amos has that." Faerinn says, "I am a recognized defender of potential ally Mist Harbor. Counsel to the Mirror of Ta'Illistim in matters of Elves in the empire leading to the acceptance of Elven refugees to Ta'Illistim. As well as working personally to bring them across the Spine in such numbers as to require the city known for its schools to build more to accommodate the influx." Faerinn says, "As council person I would act to get leaders abroad to see the Landing as I see it. A place with so much potential to bring beauty to the rest of the world where the circumstances of one's birth does not bar success."~Bekke (spoken by Maylan)~
Maylan says, "Yarr." Maylan says, "Everyone's unique experiences offer a differing viewpoint. Bekke's got a lifetime of spying, Dhe'nari philosophy, general meddling and mayhem, burning things, unravelling other's magic, and she's orange. AND an insider into the Hall." Maylan says, "Okay well sorta..." Maylan asks, "As in, she's sorta a member of the Hall?" Maylan says, "She's really just there to learn all the secrets." Maylan yells, "Since some other Magister won't tell us!" Maylan says, "Anywhoo, I imagine they'll boot her sooner or later on accounta her blabbing. But it's to our benefit, really." Maylan says, "I've always wanted to know what they talk about in there." Maylan exclaims, "In closing: Vote for Bekke! Big questions, Big sticks, Big and little friends! So much salmon!" Maylan exclaims, "HUZZAH!"~Chamorr (himself)~
Chamorr heartily says, "Our town has seen some rather dubious people on the council Stephos and others, I feel i would bring integrity and some leadership to the council, i know many folks and have always been available to listen." Chamorr heartily says, "I have the humble honor of being Thane of Ord an Dragan for seven years, and as a general in the drakes vanguard, i think i will bring those leadership qualities to the council." Chamorr heartily says, "Thanks, vote for Bear."~Vaemyr (himself)~
Vaemyr says, "I believe one of my biggest strengths is that I'm a problem solver. I try to look at problems from many different angles to come up with potential solutions no one else has thought of before. An example was when we could not figure out how to deal with the cultist tower in town. I suggested and pushed for an infiltration so we could identify their plans and potential weaknesses. Ultimately that succeeded and we were able to put a full stop to their plans." Vaemyr says, "I cannot promise anyone that I can accomplish the goals I have mentioned tonight or in other discusions. A single councillor does not have the power to do so. However, I can promise that I will never give up trying; to either come up with new solutions endlessly again and again. I'll do my utmost to represent everyone fairly and justly so that together we can build a better Wehnimer's Landing."~Urpy (spoken by Minniemae)~
Minniemae recites: "My friends, my neighbors, and my fellow citizens it has been too long since there has been an individual in our government who wants to bring clarity to us all. It has been too long that we have been left in the dark while officials meet in secret. It has been too long since we stood as one united front as opposed to splintered factions." Minniemae recites: "Raise your voices, let them be heard! When you vote Urpy, you are voting for transparency, you are voting to root out corruption, and you are voting for a candidate that listens! I say it is time, past time, that the citizens of this city." Minniemae recites: "These are my best representation of Lady Urpy's thoughts. I am Minniemae, her Campaign Kid! Vote Lady Urpy!"~Fahlo (himself)~
Fahlo says, "I have answered your questions honestly."~Berost (spoken by Soliere)~
Soliere recites: "Not much for flare or speakin' when not needin' too. I bring tha simplicity of me focus. Not here makin promises or proclamations. Not here ta get rich or use folks. I bring me honesty and me desire to do right by tha folk of the town. Nothing more, nothing less." Soliere recites: "So... (Soliere's) Me words here, dis be Solie's heart on it. Do ya see, in dem simple words (of Berost's), how, in Berost, ya haves a candidate dat will jus try ta work wi'folks?"
