A smaller relative of the basilisk, the cockatrice has a serpentine body, with feathered head, wings, and legs. Having the cold, freezing gaze of its larger cousin, the cockatrice should not be treated lightly. A sharp beak and raking claws complete this small but deadly package of evil.[1]
Hunting strategies
Cockatrices have a staring attack which may immobilize, calm, or depress an opponent. Remaining in offensive staff may mitigate the effects of the attack.
You struggle to resist the cockatrice's mental attack, but to no avail! Your resistance is replaced with submission as your arms drop to your sides and you kneel before the cockatrice!

Roundtime: 5 sec.
You no longer feel the dulling effect of depression.
A cockatrice focuses its eyes on you!
A wash of dread and hopelessness floods your senses as you realize that you have no chance to survive against such an awesome foe! The overwhelming despair and knowledge of your imminent death are too much to handle, and you find yourself mentally retreating from reality. Everything surrounding you fades to black.
