Bless Item is used to prepare weapons to fight the undead, which are immune to the attacks of normal weapons. Weapons with critical weighting, damage weighting, or flares cannot be blessed, though many special scripts applied to weapons and armor (such as ensorcell) do not prevent a bless. A cleric with 25 Cleric Base ranks can add holy water flares to a weapon. A cleric with 40 ranks can bless magic metal weapons (such as vultite) or enchanted weapons.
Blesses last for 20 + (3 × Cleric Base ranks) swings. Overtraining in the Cleric Base beyond the caster's level will continue to add to duration. Training in Spiritual Lore, Blessings will add one swing per rank. An item can be blessed for a maximum of 998 uses.
When casting from a magical item or scroll, every two skill ranks (for the appropriate activation method) count as 1 spell rank.
A cursed weapon cannot be blessed and often the resulting clash of diametrically opposed energies may prove catastrophic.
Usage
- PREP 304 | CAST {target} or INCANT 304 to cast this spell. The target must have a blessable weapon in hand
Use with Consecrate (1604)
Casting the paladin spell, Consecrate, on an item within ten minutes of casting Bless Item on that same item will increase the duration of the spell by a variable percentage (50% to 100%, based on the spell and lore training of the Consecrate caster).
Removing a Bless
If desired, an active bless can be removed using Spirit Dispel (119), but not Elemental Dispel (417) or Mental Dispel (1218). Blesses must be removed prior to most other modifications of the weapon or armor, such as enchanting or eblading.
Lore Benefit
Training in Spiritual Lore, Blessings will add one swing per rank.
Messaging
A searing white light enfolds the WEAPON for a moment and then appears to become incorporated into it.
