Glowing Red Eyes
Direbears can boost their AS, bringing their claw attack up to +415 AS, or their TD, giving a boost of +50. These boosts are indicated by the direbear's red eyes glowing brightly.

Charge
Like many bears and boars, direbears have a painful charge attack.
A direbear charges at you, throwing his weight behind his shoulder, the direbear knocks you painfully to the ground! ... 15 points of damage! Nice shiner to right eye! You are stunned for 3 rounds! Roundtime: 5 sec.
Thankfully, it can be dodged.
A direbear rears up behind you, but you sense it coming, and grab the front paws of the direbear and use your weight and leverage to flip the direbear over you and onto her back!
Bearhug
While warriors and monks can learn a combat maneuver called Bearhug to imitate a bear's attack, direbears are more than capable of doing the real thing. Unlike the combat maneuver, the direbear's bearhug cannot be broken or escaped from partway through: once a target is caught, the direbear inflicts all of its damage and roundtime in one fell swoop.
A direbear rears up behind you, and grabs you in a mighty bear hug and crushes your ribs! You find yourself unable to breathe! ... 20 points of damage! Whoosh! Several ribs driven into your lungs. The direbear releases you and you collapse to the ground, gasping for air. Roundtime: 30 sec.
War Cries
Direbears can intimidate their opponents in a similar manner to a warrior trained in War Cries. Thus, a warrior using Yertie's Yowlp can help his or her party defend against the direboar's roars and growls.
Roar (Bertrandt's Bellow)
A successful roar inflicts up to 20 seconds of roundtime.
A direbear glares at you and lets out a ferocious roar! You are startled enough to lose initiative! Roundtime: 20 sec.
Growl (Gerrelle's Growl)
A successful growl forces the target into stance offensive for the duration, akin to Frenzy (216).
A direbear's face contorts as she unleashes a gutteral, deep-throated growl at you! You are overcome with an irrational and terrible rage!
Defenses
Breaking Stun
A direbear can break stuns and act in the same action.
A direbear shakes off the stun! A direbear roars loudly as he stands up!
Bony Protrusions
The bone deposits that cover the direbear allow it to deflect and parry melee attacks without a weapon, much like a Monk using Brace (1214). They have yet not been seen to use these protrusions to disarm an attacker.
You swing a golvern maul at a monstrous direwolf! The attack is deflected harmlessly away by the direwolf's bony protrusions.

A direbear lumbers in! A direbear lumbers in, balefully surveying the area with bloodshot red eyes! A direbear appears to be reconsidering his position. A direbear's eyes glow bright red! (AS boost) A direbear's eyes suddenly emanate a bright red glow! (TD boost) A direbear snorfles and growls hungrily! A direbear roars loudly as he stands up!
