Symbol of the Proselyte (340): Clerics are called upon to convert new followers to their flock and to punish the unrepentant. By using a portion of their spirit, a cleric is able to imbue a holy symbol with the blessing of their deity. The symbol can then be worn and activated via CHANT to provide a bonus to the user's next attack. The bonus is a modifier to Spiritual Casting Strength or Bolt Attack Strength. If the attack is made against a target of the cleric's deity's opposing alignment, an additional bonus is applied. Also, when an attack is made, it will have a truehand effect.
Clerics are able to create holy symbols of their deity at DragonSpine Fane, which can be reached via the Ancient Passage in Zul Logoth. These symbols can then be blessed and handed out in an attempt to convert new followers to the fold.
Spell Cost
40 Mana + 2 Spirit points
- It is strongly recommended that the caster check Mana and Spirit points (HEALTH command) prior to casting the spell to prevent nerve damage or spirit death. The spell will drain 40 mana and 2 spirit points each time it is cast, even when refreshing the symbol.
Spell Benefits
- +5 bonus to Spiritual CS
- +5 bonus to Bolt spell AS
- Truehand effect
- Spiritual CS/Bolt AS bonus equal the caster's [trunc(Influence bonus / 2)]
- There is an additional Spiritual CS/bolt AS bonus equal to the caster's [trunc (Wisdom bonus / 3)] when used against opposite aligned targets of the caster's patron Deity. E.g, the wisdom bonus is activated with Lorminstra symbols for attacks against the Undead. As a generalization, the bonus applies to smite aligned deity symbols with attacks against undead targets and bane aligned with attacks vs living targets.
Note: The influence and wisdom bonuses are based on the stats of the cleric who cast spell 340 at the symbol.
Truehand effect
Similar to the CMAN Truehand, a benefit of this spell is that it changes the standard attack d100 roll to 50 + d50. This insures, on average, a signicantly higher endroll ~(+25) outcome than the normal d100 roll. Although elementalists don't get the +5 CS or INF bonus to their warding attacks, they still receive the truehand effect when using a symbol.
Example:
CS: +360 - TD: +257 + CvA: +20 + 50 + d50: +30 == +203
Lore Bonus
When the spell is successfully cast at an appropriate item, additional charges will be added at the rate of one charge per [trunc(Spiritual Lore, Blessings skill / 50)]. E.g, with 50 skill (10 ranks) SL, Blessings, the item will have 4 total charges, the initial 3 plus 1 bonus charge.
Spiritual Lore, Blessings Bonus Table
SL, Blessings Skill | Ranks | Bonus Charges | Total Charges |
---|---|---|---|
<50 | <10 | 0 | 3 |
50 | 10 | 1 | 4 |
100 | 24 | 2 | 5 |
150 | 50 | 3 | 6 |
200 | 100 | 4 | 7 |
250 | 150 | 5 | 8 |
300 | 200 | 6 | 9 |
Restrictions
- A holy symbol must be representative of the cleric's deity (CONVERT command) for the spell to take effect.
- The symbol MUST BE WORN in order to activate the bonuses with the CHANT command.
- Once the CHANT<symbol> command has been initiated, the player will have 30 seconds to cast the attack spell at their target.
- Although there are no restrictions how quickly the charges from a symbol can be used, once a symbol is activated via CHANT, a user becomes attuned to it for ten minutes. This prevents them from using any other holy symbol for the same effect for that duration.
