***********************************************************************************************************

The darkest days are fading. The march to summer has begun.

Join the Steppes Halflings in the most cherished observance of the year! The Festival of the White Star, a radiant beacon of hope against the cruel winter begins on Eorgaen 5th. We gather to honor the arrival of Caeliabol, the White Stag Star, the brightest light in The Paladin, signaling the turn of the year and the promise of warmth to come.

When & Where
Though observed wherever our people winter, the grandest celebration will take place from Eorgaen 5 to Eorgaen 10 on the shores of Lake Khesta'dahl. The welcoming village of Halan Lea in Saen Valaire opens its arms to welcome those who want to visit the icy waters as they mirror the star's brilliant light.

Join the Traditions: Come witness, or participate in, the rites that bind our community:

The Stag of Light: Watch as our young halflings present their handcrafted crowns of white-painted antlers, vying for the honor of being named the buk abn kaaman (Stag of Light), who will lead the procession to the lake.

The Star-Catchers' Plunge: In the coldest hours, witness the brave anajin-abn-tsan (star-catchers) dive into the frigid lake, hoping to bring forth the brilliant, white glow of the phosphorescent waterthyme that is starlight made tangible!

The Power of the Oath: Take advantage of this auspicious time! Oaths spoken under the light of Caeliabol are considered the most sacred and binding a halfling can make.

The Star-Silence - Tsiimaga abn Tsan: On the central night, as midnight approaches, a profound moment awaits. Drums will cease, songs will fade, and a hush will fall over the shore. This Star-Silence is a solemn time to remember all those who will not see the coming spring.

Seek the Reflection: It is a great blessing to see Caeliabol's perfect reflection in the still waters during this time. Let us pray for a smooth, unbroken surface, portending a calm and quiet year ahead.

You are invited to share in the warmth of community, the light of the stars, and the enduring hope of the Steppes people.

Come to the shores, look up to the White Stag Star, and feel the promise of a brighter year.

Featherfall Blessings, Display

[Featherfall Blessings, Display] Room: 8022154
Braided wool forms a circular rug at the center of the hide ger, its muted strands arranged in tight spirals. Copper lanterns hang from the roof poles above, their surfaces marked by gentle hammering. Along the curved wall, a woven grass basket rests beside a low crate that supports a neat pile of prayer rugs. Further around the curve, a carved wooden box sits on a hide-draped stand, its surface cut with simple, deliberate patterns.
Obvious paths: out

In the wooden box you see: a olive-tinged finch feather, a white-spotted lapwing feather, a pale yellow finch feather, a burnt orange ruddy sheldrake feather, a tawny golden eagle feather, and a dusky grey eagle-owl feather.

Analyze:

As you contemplate a olive-tinged finch feather you realize that it is a small item and will never have much weight to it, therefore lightening it seems unnecessary.

You also note that certain parts of the feather translate into the color of beads, haircombs, and headbands. Currently, that is indigo.

This feather is tier 1 of 4 tiers. You are able to use the following verbs on it: wear, remove, weave*, pull**, attend**, pinch*, and tickle.

Those verbs marked with * mean that they will create a hairstyle, and if it is marked with ** it will either remove the hairstyle or tell you what your current hairstyle looks like.

Even though the noun may be a type of feather, all hairstyles have pre-arranged ways that they will be displayed and your noun may not ever show in the hairstyle. All feather types are allowed for the noun.

When getting these altered, feel free to express to the merchant the following information: "I would like to get the beads/haircombs/headband material/color changed to X Y Z, and I'd like to get the color/avian feather changed to A B C.
Any merchant that is comfortable with this item may unlock it to tier 2.

Lastly, the feather does not require you to be wearing a hairstyle for its verbs to work. It can be worn with other hair items and still manipulated, the same as the hair baubles.

Halan Lea, Fishing Ger

[Halan Lea, Fishing Ger] Room: 8022212
Lengths of fishing line are secured between twisted rafters overhead, dangling numerous small fish covered in salt and spices. The floor of the ger is covered with woven reed mats, some stained with dry blood and others with various seasonings. A pair of huge fish jawbones is adjoined in the center of the roof, where the rafters are secured to their large, jagged teeth. Bright white walls of thick felt are well kept, with only a few lightly stained patches near a short wooden rack from the day-to-day toil. You also see a round woven basket and a lacquered pine sign.
Obvious paths: out
a lacquered pine sign

In the Common language, it reads:

     Fishing Shack Supplies

The spool of fishing line has twelve uses.
Lacquered flower lures are best for surface fishing.
The juniper lure is best for mid-depth fishing.
The dumpling-shaped lure is best for fishing at the bottom of the lake.
The grey stone weight is heavier than the blown glass weight.
All choices on the rack are equally effective while fishing.

On the wooden rack you see: a notched pine fishing rod with a goatskin-wrapped handle, a sturdy larch fishing stick dangling golden eagle feathers, and a short birch fishing pole fitted with a simple metal reel.

Sagging under the weight of heavy coats, juniper racks crowd the felt-and-lattice ger until only precariously narrow paths remain to wind through the chaos. Strands of tiny square mirrors hang from the narrow rafters, their beveled edges scattering the roof ring's light into rainbow-limned patterns across the latticed khana. Clay beehive ovens rise in a low arc around the stall's rear and sides, their rounded forms filling the air with heat and their surfaces marked with faint soot at each vent. Set beneath the sheltering cloth, a broad dark walnut table holds neatly arranged wares and small samples laid out for inspection.

Inside this small ger, several mannequins are scattered haphazardly about amongst a littered floor covered by dead leaves, nut husks, and shriveled berries of various sorts. Criss-crossed lattices of birch, pine, and rowan make up the khana, which is covered by a thick layer of felting and held in place by large bands of leather. A wide loft, accessible via a narrow ladder, hangs above the mannequin's heads, blocking their view of the roof ring.

Strands of tiny square mirrors hang from the narrow rafters, their beveled edges scattering the roof ring's light into rainbow-limned patterns across the latticed khana.
