Synopsis

Click 'Expand' on the right to see! But I'll note that the synopsis is so extremely long that I believe you might as well just read the log.

Barrister Jeshiah calls Drektor to the Chamber of Justice, beginning the third night of the trial of the Brotherhood of Rooks!

Drektor takes a seat while Thadston says he can't wait for his one-word answers, then asks if Drektor was a Rook before or after having relationships with Marshal Stormyrain and a Town Councilor or if it happened after a broken heart. Chandrellia, Councilor Kayse, and Mauss shout criticism down from the balcony, but Leafiara shouts down asking whether Drektor doesn't get an opening statement.

Thadston says to excuse him after the nights of lies have blurred and prompts for an opening statement, but Drektor says let's get on with it. Back to the question, Thadston repeats it: when did Drektor's Rook membership begin in his romance timeline. Drektor says after and during; Thadston says that makes no sense; Drektor says Thadston asked about two persons and he gave two answers.

Thadston asks Drektor if he knew Kayse and Kiyna were Rooks when they ran for council; he says yes. Thadston asks if he was on the mission to Idolone; Drektor says he doesn't know what mission he's referring to; Thadston said he's already been mentioned as being there; Drektor says be more specific; Thadston asks if he was part of the mission to Idolone to make contact and broker a deal with Stephos DeArchon; Drektor says he wasn't.

Thadston asks what being discussed and planned with the map on the night of the raid; Drektor says, as he's already been told, they had just laid it out to look at and there wasn't much planned. Thadston asks if there wasn't discussion of how to hit the wagons without hurting innocent people or making a move before the Remnants. Drektor says discussions began with that possibility of the wagons being hit, but Thadston's goon squad showed up after--and, he adds, being hit by the Remnants. Thadston says that's quite different having just laid it out to look at.

Thadston asks Drektor how he'd think to prevent the Remnants from hitting the wagons; Drektor asks if he's looking for tips; Judge Manard tells him to answer the question; Drektor says positions could be stationed throughout where Rems might target. Thadston asks if his plan might have been hit the Remnants and protect the Imperials; Drektor says Imperials can protect themselves; Thadston asks if this correlates to Mother's previous comments about hitting the settlers where it hurts to make them starve and return home; Drektor says depends what's in the wagons.

(Up in the balcony, a townsperson shows off a cloth headband marked with the phrase "We're All Rooks.") Thadston asks what makes the wagons worth hitting; Drektor says that's a question for the Rems since the Rooks would be there to hit them (the Rems); Thadston asks if his tentions were to hit the Remnants, thus protecting the wagons, and allowing the Imperials to travel safely; Drektor says that was his understanding.

Thadston asks if Drektor recalls any time Mother declared she would work to starve the Imperials and drive them away; Drektor says he doesn't recall hearing anything to that effect. Thadston comes back to Drektor's relationship with a town councilor and asks if they ever met alone to discuss Rook plans or developments; Drektor asks if also wants to know what they had for dinner; Thadston says no; Drektor says no. Thadston asks if his conversations were filled with daily ongoings, sweet nothings, or Black Hand news, but nothing on the Rooks; Drektor warns him against pushing.

Thadston says he's done since Drektor won't answer anything; Jeshiah says maybe he shouldn't! And Jeshiah is appalled, saying Drektor's love of Wehnimer's Landing should be the only topic discussed in that area. He points out that Thadston might not be on trial yet, but Drektor didn't share a bed with Mother nor pardon her. Jeshiah begins questioning, asking Drektor what he's done to protect the town and its people in the last few years. He says like most, he's killed his share of goons and creeps that attack the town; Jeshiah says he thinks that's awfully modest and adds fire elementals, "ground breaking stone trolls," "mighty minotaurs," and "stormy, but not stormyrain, giants" to the list! Drektor says it doesn't matter, as in truth he's not special or unique; Jeshiah says he's not his daddy and won't get into feelings, but the town is thankful for what he does. Drektor says he could be any other person in town, fed up, but he's just more capable. Jeshiah adds that Drektor wasn't involved with any town officials during a simultaneous time when he was a Rook and they held office.

Jeshiah asks for any witnesses; Drektor says no one speaks for him. Jeshiah asks for a closing statement; Drektor says Thadston has them here on trial for trying to do right by the town. Like he (Drektor) said, he's not special or unique, just a guy able to attempt to keep what's important safe. More and more folks will reach the ends of their rope; the time of relying on elected officials who consistently fail them is over. As he's dimissed, he tells Thadston to be better and leaves Moot Hall.

Jeshiah calls Leafi down as the last defendant and she goes into her opening statement. She came to the Landing with childhood aspirations of being a hero and saving lives, but, through Dennet and Naimorai Kestrel, Praxopius, the Rones, Vlashandra, Malluch, and the rogue armigers saw endless cycles where town defenders including her put suspicions aside, allowed evil to grow until it made a move, fought back, and then got accolades of heroism for defending the town... its survivors, anyway, while corpses riddled every corner.

Leafi says maybe she should have been on trial for failure to stop those threats, because she'd have no defense--yet her friends create defenses and excuses on her behalf anyway, and eventually she couldn't take it anymore because she felt like a fraud. Leafi joined the Rooks in Lormesta 5122 because she couldn't live with feeling like she looked good instead of doing good. She doesn't begrudge others who walk other paths hopes that those who believe they're doing all they can keep doing it, but she didn't believe it of herself--and the town doesn't benefit from her trying to be a third-rate Sir Cryheart or Marshal Stormy, but a first-rate Leafiara.

Next, Leafi wants to address two charges. First Impropriety and Conspiracy. She says they're the "Brotherhood" of Rooks because their priority is their brothers, sisters, family, and friends, and she'll choose protecting our people over protecting our propriety every time. She doesn't even think she's practiced impropriety as a Rook, but she believes it's warranted at times, so she says it's safe to find her guilty of impropriety. As for conspiracy, Leafi meets with some of their team every month or so and they work to gather information in hopes of preventing threats before they become problems instead of after.

Second, Endangering Public Safety; Leafi says one could make a case she was negligent or reactive as a Mayor and Councilor, but she's never endangered the Landing after joining the Rooks. She says others rush to defend the Imperial camp, but she always sticks close to town unless she feels confident no lives will be lost if she moves to front lines that are further away. Leafi also describes Chandy, Pukk, Stormyrain, and herself as the most consistent at keeping people apprised on changing circumstances in battle to direct or act as reinforcements and encourage less skilled defenders to find their place. She says, from that light, it's natural that she would wind up joining a group at the forefront of gathering information to be prepared in advance.

Thadston begins his questions, agreeing with Leafi that Malluch posed a large to threat to the Landing and asks her to remind him who was the Mayor who pardoned him after the town captured and imprisoned him. Leafi says it was her, as she implied; Thadston says he wanted to make sure everyone clearly new; Leafi says she wished to prevent a riot and the threat of Stone's blood golems attacking, but she had initially agreed with Thadston's assessment that we should have driven the blood cult away from our lands.

Thadston asks who was responsible for poisoning Rysus; Leafi calls that a more complex question, as she handed over the vial containing the poison, but she warned the Rook who came for it to test it thoroughly because she had suspicions. She says Praxopius should be considered too since he created the poison and implies it's strange that narrative credit has sometimes gone entirely to her. Thadston asks Leafi if she poisoned Rysus so she could try to take over the Rooks; she says no or else she wouldn't have extended a warning. Thadston asks if she wished she would have taken over the Rooks; Leafi asks if he's asking if she wished that her getting credit would have led the Rooks to make her their leader; he says no, he's asking if at any time she wished she would have taken over or led the Rooks; Leafi says it's crossed her mind and grins.

Thadston says Leafi made an interesting point earlier about the Landing seeing a lot of crisis and trouble, but reminds the balcony that the Brotherhood of Rooks have created much of it. Leafi says that she wouldn't agree with that assessment since Casiphia took over, but certainly in Rysus' and Drangell's days. (Up on the balcony, some townspeople begin to quietly chant "We're All Rooks," but stop after some sideways glances.) Thadston elaborates about the abduction and burning of Cosima that enranged Davard and Talador, attacking Hendorans at the outpost, firing on a Vornavian merchant bringing supplies, and killing militiamen to lure Rone (the first Rone, Malluch). Leafi says more than half of those happened before she moved to the Landing, but she did see Rysus commit atrocities.

Thadston says the bad apples and cruel leaders have led the Rooks of the past to cause tragedies and issues, so he asks Leafi if it's fair to say it might be difficult for some people to move past that; she says it would be very natural and expected for many to feel that way. Thadston asks Leafi if she's of the mind that we should be willing and open to review the Rooks in a different light, reflect on the good they're trying to do, and stop focusing on the bad ones from before; she says very much so, times change, the Landing cherishes redemption, and points to Lady Alendrial, the next Mayor, as an example. Thadston asks if she's of the same mind regarding being willing and open to review Imperial allies in a different light, reflect on the good they're trying to do, and stop focusing on the bad ones from before; Leafi says she agrees we should be open to considering it, but also feels we should keep an eye open just in case, and she'd say the same to skeptics of the Rooks. She says Casi said the same, that trust comes with time.

Thadston asks Leafi if she conspired to oust Amos as Steward of the Guilds because it was a Rook operation; she says it was the exact opposite. Chandy, Pukk, and she hadn't looked deeply enough into the new laws to know it was a possibility. Leafi says Casiphia did bring it up to Pukk and her (Chandy wasn't present), but warned against it in the same breath because she thought it would stir up a hornet's nest. Thadston says the idea sparked in a Rook meeting; Leafi says no, Councilor Fahlo, who wasn't a Rook, brought it forth publicly--and her campaign left no public justification for not agreeing with Fahlo's move, so she made the anti-Rook move, ousting Amos even though it made him a martyr as Casi had expected.

Thadston says he's been alerted there could be a confirmed Rook in the town militia and asks Leafi if she cares to share his name. She says it's interesting he was alerted about this when he hadn't been alerted about Kayse, but pauses. Thadston asks again and says he could share it, but wanted to give her another chance to be a little louder. Leafi says since she'll answer since the Marshal had agreed she would wish her to share if Thadston asked, so she says Asben.

With no more questions from Thadston, Jeshiah says he was asked not to provide a dense; Leafi says that's not what her letter said and Jeshiah says Leafi just hadn't wanted charges against Thadston on her behalf. He says she has no questions for her, as she's summed up why she joined the Rooks and made the case that they've changed. Jeshiah says the Rooks are no more the old as Hendorans are Hochstib. Jeshiah asks her for a closing statement.

Leafi quotes Thadston saying we rarely get to make decisions about clear lines of right or wrong, so it's not about right or wrong--but we make all our decisions with protecting our people in mind, so it's about who will die and who won't. Leafi says perfect solutions and clean victories are rare, so the town needs multiple approaches. The new Rooks do all they do because they love Wehnimer's Landing.

Speaking to Leafiara, Mauss agrees, "I'd prolly need ta take a bath or three ta be a witness."
Speaking to Mauss, Leafiara murmurs, "You'd be surprised."
Speaking to Mauss, Leafiara says, "If they'd allow Gutstorm down there, they'd allow anyone down there."
Thadston says, "I think they are upstairs."
Thadston nods at Geijon.
Thadston says, "This is where all the lies fill the floor like goblin crap down here."
The voice of Juramis huskily says, "Someone said they might be bringing fruit tonight. I am taking precautions."
Chandrellia says, "Careful Juramis, Thadston may think you are striking deals in the shadows and have you hung."
Speaking to Kayse, Stormyrain mutters, "If we're talking timelines, about the same time Drektor and I were more than friends, Casiphia was with Disean Andrews, not Thadston Andrews."
Thadston says, "Let's circle back to your time as a Rook and in a relationship with a town councilor."
Thadston asks, "That was the "during" part correct?"
Drektor nods once.
Thadston asks, "Did you and the town councilor ever meet alone to discuss Rook plans or developments?"
Speaking to Thadston, Drektor asks, "Wanna know what we had for dinner too?"
Thadston says, "Nope. Just the question I asked."
Drektor says, "No."
Thadston says, "I see."
Thadston asks, "So your conversations were more filled with the ongoings of the day, sweet nothings, or Black Hand news, but nothing ever with the Rooks?"
Tikba mildly says, "Again we see that Thadston cannot imagine a relationship different from his with Casiphia."
Speaking coolly to Stormyrain, Kayse says, "There is not enough scotch for this right now. I didn't realize my ex-relationship would be up for discussion with the court."
Speaking to Tikba, Stormyrain says, "I hope so, I would never date my offspring's ex."
Jeshiah asks, "Tell me precisely, what have you done in the last few years to help protect this town and its people?"
Tayler says, "Oh, he asked Drektor, I thought he asked Thadston, that would be a rather long list."
Speaking to Jeshiah, Drektor says, "Like everyone else.. or most. ive killed my share of goons or creeps that attack the town."
Jeshiah says, "I think you're being awfully, awfully modest Drektor."
Jeshiah asks, "Mere goons? Creeps?"
Jeshiah exclaims, "Try fire elementals!"
Jeshiah exclaims, "Ground breaking stone trolls!"
Drektor says, "It doesnt matter. in truth. im not special. or unique."
Jeshiah exclaims, "Mighty minotaurs, stormy, but not stormyrain, giants!"
Jeshiah says, "Well now, I'm not your daddy, so I won't get into that feeling stuff..."
Jeshiah exclaims, "But the town is thankful for what you do!"
Jeshiah asks, "And a closing statement?"
Drektor says, "Yeah."
Jeshiah asks, "Beyond the word Yeah?"
Jeshiah ducks his head.
Irval says, "Chandrellia, you realize I can turn you into a pile of dust? I don't know why you insist on trying to antagonize me. And threatening to pull me from one side of the hull to other, through barnacles...nearly always ends in death. If not from shock, then infection. A most gruesome way to die. So either you want to duel or just merely continue your incessant drivel elsewhere if you would please."
Leafiara murmurs, "And to think *we're* on trial for accusations of threatening violence."
Speaking to Irval, Kelfyr asks, "Did you just threaten someone in the middle of a courtroom?"
Juramis huskily says, "This is the conflict part of the conflict and interest."
Thrassus says, "A few of us stabbed Rysus as he was dying from the poison as well."
Juramis can offer Thrassus only a blank expression.
Speaking to Juramis, Chandrellia says, "He wasnt a nice fellow."
Vaemyr says, "Rysus deserved it."
Thrassus says, "The Rooks tossed us daggers as an invitation."
Tikba amusedly says, "I suppose that night you were all Rooks."
Thrassus says, "The poison made him literally melt away into ichor."
Thrassus says, "It was rather gruesome to watch."
Raelee quietly remarks, "... I may have some of him in a jar somewhere."
Speaking to Tayler, Chandrellia whispers aloud, "You should see what she keeps under the outpost."
Speaking to Kiyna, Tayler says, "You know I was thinking, all of this wouldn't have been an issue if you all had rebranded better."
Tayler says, ""New Rooks" is a little..."
Speaking to Tayler, Kiyna says, "Let it be said, we suggested to Casiphia we should change the name."
Leafiara encouragingly says, "To those listening, if you've ever trusted any of us defendants, believed in us, loved us, or even simply thought you could work with us, you can safely continue to. Our methods change, but our intentions don't."
Leafiara assures, "And I promise you that, even with our smaller group, Rook meetings get just as spirited and contentious as any large public meeting."
Leafiara lightly says, "I probably would have been disappointed and left the Rooks by now if it were any other way."
Leafiara recounts, "Casi has called us too soft before, but invited us back in anyway. She's questioned if we've lost our will to do what's necessary, but invited us back in anyway. She didn't like when the current council struck a deal with Elidal, but invited us back in anyway. She didn't like when the past council removed Amos, but invited us back in anyway."
Kayse slowly asks, "Is she recruiting now?"

Thematic Highlights

Click 'Expand' on the right to see!
Thadston asks, "So tell me, were you a Rook before or after having relationships with the town marshal and a town councilor?"
Stormyrain swears, "What the hell was that."
Kayse yells, "Were you a Mayor before or after you had a relationship with Mother?"
Juramis huskily asks, "You need to bury the knife before you twist it. This is a bit out of order, no?"
Thadston asks, "Were you on the mission to Idolone?"
Thadston peers quizzically at Drektor.
Drektor says, "I dunno what mission yer referrin to."
Thadston says, "You've already been mentioned as being there."
Thadston asks, "Want to try again?"
Drektor says, "Be specific."
Thadston asks, "Specific? Or slower?"
Drektor says, "Whatever is easiest for you."
Thadston asks, "Were you part of the trip south to Idolone with some of your fellow Rooks to make contact and broker a deal with Stephos DeArchon?"
Drektor says, "I was not."
Stormyrain says, "I always do admire Drektor's ability to disarm difficult traps."
Thadston says, "I see."
Thadston says, "Fair enough, no one said you were. But it was worth a shot."
Thadston asks, "How would you, Drektor, think to stop or prevent these Remnants from hitting the wagon that you had maps for?"
Speaking to Thadston, Drektor asks, "Lookin for tips?"
The Judge leans in, "Answer the question Drektor."
Drektor says, "If we have possible paths on the maps. then positions could be stationed throughout where Rems might target."
Thadston asks, "So your plan might have been, hit the Remnants, protect the imperials?"
Drektor says, "Imperials can protect themselves."
Thadston asks, "Does that really correlate to Mother's previous comments about hitting the settlers where it hurts, and making them starve and wish they returned home?"
Drektor says, "It depends on whats in the wagons."
Thadston asks, "Oh?"
Thadston says, "Elaborate."
Thadston asks, "What makes the wagons worth hitting to you?"
Drektor says, "That's a question for the Rems isnt it? we just had the map and their path. we would be there for the Rems."
Drektor says, "He has us here on trial for tryin to do right by the town. like i sed. im not special. im not unique. im just a guy able to attempt to keep himself whats important to em safe. more and more folks are gonna reach the ends of their rope."
Drektor says, "The time of relyin on elected officials who consistantly fail them is over."
Jeshiah says, "You are welcome to return to the balcony. The people of Wehnimer's Landing thank you."
Drektor stands up.
Speaking to Thadston, Drektor says, "Be better."
Drektor brushes roughly past Thadston. How rude!
Drektor just went through a modwir arch.
Leafiara elaborates, "We'd put our suspicions aside. We'd extend the benefit of the doubt. We'd allow evil to grow until it felt confident enough to make a move. Once it did, we'd fight back and win. Then came accolades of heroism for defending the town..."
Leafiara grimly says, "At least, defending those who had survived. Meanwhile, our citizens' corpses riddled every corner."
Leafiara frankly says, "If anything, maybe failure to stop those threats is what should have had you putting me on trial for years now. I'd have no defense. None."
Leafiara professes, "I dreamed of being a hero, but what is a hero? That's defined by a person's actions and heart, not others' perceptions and love. So I only saw myself becoming a fraud and a failure chasing the latter."
Leafiara bluntly says, "In Lormesta 5122, I became a Rook because I couldn't live with feeling like I *looked* good instead of feeling like I was *doing* good."
Leafiara sincerely states, "To those listening and walking other paths, I don't begrudge their choices. If you believe you're doing all that you can, I'm glad. I hope you keep doing it. But I didn't believe that *I* was doing all that I could."
Leafiara clearly says, "But I am a Rook because the town doesn't benefit from me trying to be a third-rate imitation of Sir Cryheart or Marshal Stormyrain--it benefits from me being a first-rate Leafiara. The one and only."
Leafiara wonderingly asks, "Know why we're called the 'Brotherhood'?"
Leafiara answers, "Because our priority is our brothers, our sisters, our parents, children, family, friends. If it's between protecting our propriety or protecting our people, I'll choose our people every time."
Leafiara admits, "I don't think I've practiced or committed impropriety at any point after joining the Rooks, but I do believe impropriety is warranted at times for a greater good. So, I think it's safe to find me guilty on that half of the charge."
Leafiara affirms, "As for the Conspiracy half... Every month or so on average, I meet with some of our team. We work to gather information in hopes of preventing the next Vlashandra, the next Grishom Stone cult, and the next Dennet before they become problems instead of after."
Leafiara reasonably acknowledges, "And I feel great about it. We have our differences, but we do agree we can't wait for every last enemy to grow overconfident and complacent so we can defeat them after long trails of slain citizens have been left behind."
Leafiara honestly confesses, "If that counts as guilt, so be it. Guilty of Conspiracy too."

Idle Chatter

[Town Square Central]

This is the heart of the main square of Wehnimer's Landing. The impromptu shops of the bazaar are clustered around this central gathering place, where townsfolk, travellers, and adventurers meet to talk, conspire or raise expeditions to the far-flung reaches of Elanith. At the north end, an old well, with moss-covered stones and a craggy roof, is shaded from the moonlight by a strong, robust tree. The oak is tall and straight, and it is apparent that the roots run deep. You also see a pretty flower girl, the Margus disk, the Dergoatean disk, the Jyszull disk, a bitter wasteland spirit that is flying around, the Brenyl disk, a scared will-o-wisp spirit that is flying around, a jovial lake spirit that is flying around, a sinuous bone white serpent, an inquisitive capyxita proudly sporting a tiny toadstool cap, the Korpacz disk, the Niffly disk, the granite Sluggard disk, the Chamorr disk, the Ussey disk, a silver-traced carved mahogany cart with some stuff on it, an old well, some wide stone benches with some stuff on it, an herbal remedy donation bin and a round silver-banded barrel.

Also here: Whimweaver Leafiara, Lord Margus, Zuuloo who is kneeling, Dergoatean, Mauss, Emmeranne, Emperia, Jyszull, Astrilyn, Tikba, Dame Evia, Brenyl, Sir Cryheart, Lady Nyaria, Korpacz, Niffly, Town Councilor Vaemyr, Sluggard who is sitting, Chamorr, Ussey who is kneeling

Mauss exclaims, "These clown-shoes better unnerstand if dey cut off my cookies and whiskey there'll be hell to pay!"

Nyaria quietly says, "Im sure there are others somewhere."

Speaking to Leafiara, Vaemyr says, "So are you gonna take up the entire night, to make things postposed another night? I know you probably could."

Evia gazes up into the sky.

Evia says, "No moons."

Speaking to Leafiara, Mauss agrees, "Talk 'em ta death!"

The sky begins to fill with huge clouds, dark and grey on the bottom, pale and white atop, their puffy crowns ascending toward the heavens.

Vaemyr says, "Nothing like a bit of thunder and lightning to accompany a trial."

[General] Cryheart thinks, "Storm clouds o'er the Landing."

Mauss remarks, "Ain' it just like dis "court" to render verdicts in a fly-by-night fashion??"

Speaking to Kiyna, Tikba asks, "Shall we head inside?"

Vaemyr says, "Alrighty guess it's off to zee balcony."

Cryheart says, "Time to head to the assembly balcony it seems."

Speaking softly to Niffly, Davenas says, "Living the dream."

[Moot Hall, Observation Balcony]

Several rows of hardwood benches line the balcony, each row a bit higher than the previous one in order to provide a view of the proceedings below from every seat. A polished oak railing forms the front barrier of the viewing area, and a narrow stairway leads down. You also see some gathered townspeople.

Sir Cryheart's group just climbed up a narrow stairway.

Tikba's group just climbed up a narrow stairway.

Whimweaver Leafiara's group just climbed up a narrow stairway.

Mauss asks, "Hmm, wrong group?"

Tikba amusedly says, "I hope we have brought enough refreshments for this crowd."

Speaking to Leafiara, Mauss pouts, "Fine, I'll just Cry-blob den!!" [she'd disbanded]

Mauss says, "...hmmph."

Speaking to Mauss, Leafiara says, "I have to take the stand tonight, so don't be in my group, certainly."

Speaking to Mauss, Leafiara says, "I can't bring anyone down there with me unless they wish to be character witnesses after I've already spoken and Thadston's asked his questions of me."

Speaking to some gathered townspeople, Kiyna says, "For any Rooks among you, I would advise less loud protesting this time. We don't need to be so disruptive."

Speaking to some gathered townspeople, Kiyna adds, "But I did appreciate the support."

Speaking to Leafiara, Mauss agrees, "I'd prolly need ta take a bath or three ta be a witness."

Speaking to Mauss, Leafiara murmurs, "You'd be surprised."

Thunder rumbles in the distance.

Speaking to Mauss, Leafiara says, "If they'd allow Gutstorm down there, they'd allow anyone down there."

Mauss offers Leafiara a shot of warmed halfling whiskey.

Leafiara accepts Mauss's warmed halfling whiskey.

Speaking to Leafiara, Mauss exclaims, "Might be helpful!"

Speaking tentatively to Mauss, Leafiara says, "I appreciate it, but I'd better not right before this."

Speaking to Leafiara, Vaemyr says, "This is when the Remnants all attack while half of us are sitting, and noone has weapons out."

Nyaria quietly says, "Perhaps a bit stronger than juice will be needed tonight."

Awaiting the Trial

A town crier shouts in the distance, "The trial of the Rooks will continue soon! You may wish to go to the observation balcony above the Chamber of Justice inside of Moot Hall!"

Speaking earnestly to Vaemyr, Leafiara says, "Just remember orb protocol. Grab and run to get it away from the crowd."

Speaking to Nyaria, Mauss insists, "YOU drink it."

Speaking to Vaemyr, Kiyna says, "Weapons out is a bad idea. Faster with the orbs if your hands are empty."

Speaking to Leafiara, Vaemyr asks, "Toss it to Thadston?"

Speaking slowly to Vaemyr, Leafiara says, "No."

Speaking quietly to Mauss, Nyaria says, "Its not actually bad."

Nyaria quietly says, "Unless its poisoned and ill find out soon enough."

Mauss offers Leafiara a mug of whiskey-spiked coffee.

Leafiara accepts Mauss's whiskey-spiked coffee.

Vaemyr says, "I know I know, wouldn't surprise me though if he could absorb the energy out of those."

Leafiara takes a drink from her whiskey-spiked coffee.

Speaking to Leafiara, Mauss says, "Can't hurt!! ...much."

Speaking to Leafiara, Chandrellia says, "There was no way I was missing your lines of questions."

Speaking to Chandrellia, Leafiara agrees, "Wouldn't imagine otherwise."

Speaking to Vaemyr, Tayler says, "Any of us can, stand behind the kindred."

Speaking to Vaemyr, Tayler says, "They will absorb the energy quite nicely."

Mayor Thadston just marched stiffly through a modwir arch.

Judge Manard arrives.

Thadston nods at Geijon.

Chamorr yells, "Boooo!" From up on a narrow stairway, you hear Chamorr yell, "Boooo!"

A huge orange cat pads in.

Speaking to Kippe, Leafiara explains, "Twilight Hall."

Vaemyr exclaims, "Hi Mongo!"

Cryheart says, "Hello Mongo."

Nyaria quietly asks, "So when is changing of the guard?"

Tayler says, "Irval is distracted in Mist Harbor, enjoy the calm while it lasts."

Geijon says, "Thadston."

Kiyna informs, "For any who want a better look, you can WATCH the AREA to keep track of what's going on during the trial."

The voice of Juramis huskily says, "Good evening, everyone." [OOC note: same protocol as the other trial nights: everything Juramis does is left in because he's an NPC, but not bolded since he's also more background flavor than anything]

Tayler says, "Good evening, invisible Juramis."

Cryheart says, "Good evening, Lord Juramis."

Speaking to Chandrellia, Rasson asks, "Sailing still happening tomorrow, well depending if your neck is a bit longer or not?"

Thadston says, "I think they are upstairs."

Thadston nods at Geijon.

Tikba lightly asks, "Being cautious, Juramis?"

Thadston points at a narrow stairway.

Geijon shrugs.

Geijon says, "Likely."

The voice of Juramis huskily says, "Someone said they might be bringing fruit tonight. I am taking precautions."

Cryheart says, "Is there a reason ye be hiding."

Cryheart says, "Ok."

Thadston says, "This is where all the lies fill the floor like goblin crap down here."

Geijon says, "I am here."

Tayler says, "I'm all out of fruit, but I brought plenty of rolton bladders."

Speaking to Thadston, Geijon says, "Facts are powerful."

Geijon nods.

Some townspeople re-gather.

Chandrellia says, "Careful Juramis, Thadston may think you are striking deals in the shadows and have you hung."

Sir Geijon just climbed up a narrow stairway.

Speaking to Raelee, Dergoatean says, "Different justice."

Juramis sets about preparing himself to be as presentable as possible.

Speaking hesitantly to Tayler, Mauss says, "Comin' prepared is one thing, but..."

Speaking to Raelee, Dergoatean says, "And thank you."

Cryheart asks, "Decided to risk the fruit?"

Speaking to Dergoatean, Raelee says, "A statement with more meanings than one."

Juramis shrugs at Cryheart.

Speaking to Dergoatean, Raelee says, "... and of course."

Speaking to some gathered townspeople, Rasson says, "You gather well, did you practice."

Thadston asks, "Where's the walnut?"

Juramis huskily says, "I am not sure who it would be for."

Jeshiah just came through a modwir arch.

Chandrellia yells, "Rolling around in your head!"

Thadston rolls his eyes.

Jeshiah says, "I am here! I am here."

Chandrellia yells, "Yup there they go!"

Chamorr heartily says, "Nice one."

Nyaria quietly says, "I think i heard the rattling from up here."

Jeshiah says, "I was also here yesterday, but..."

Jeshiah glances at Judge Manard.

Jeshiah asks, "Feeling better?" [OOC note: Kenstrom's Internet had trouble on the originally scheduled date, so there was only time for a town crier to announce Manard had come down with a bad case of Helga's stew.]

Jeshiah smirks.

Juramis huskily says, "I see Jeshiah and Thadston are already having a chat."

Tayler says, "They're the best of friends."

Speaking to Tayler, Chandrellia says, "Hes here, so much for nice and quiet."

Juramis huskily says, "Apparently Helga's stew was nearly to die for."

Thadston says, "Well, you've got the list."

Speaking to Juramis, Kiyna says, "Always is."

Thadston says, "Call 'em."

Jeshiah says, "I do not..."

Jeshiah glances at a narrow stairway.

Leafiara asks, "The list?"

Nyaria quietly says, "So i hear."

Perigourd says, "Of witnesses."

Leafiara says, "Ah."

Mauss sneers, "The "list"."

Speaking to Leafiara, Chandrellia says, "Of whos left I believe."

Jeshiah says, "I do not see Drektor up there."

Mauss sneers, "The "list"."

Leafiara says, "...it's not an especially long list."

Speaking to Juramis, Tayler says, "Nobody ever asks why there weren't thousands of dead krolvins and reivers floating in the bay. Where do they go? Nobody asks, for everyone knows."

Jeshiah says, "I mean, that doesn't necessarily mean he isn't up there..."

Juramis huskily says, "I don't find myself in taverns too often. Why go to the wine, when you can have the wine come to you."

Juramis casually observes his surroundings.

Speaking to Tayler, Dergoatean says, "Hungry fish."

Speaking to Leafiara, Kippe asks, "It's your turn tonight, isn't it?"

Speaking to Kippe, Leafiara says, "Barring further interruptions."

Speaking to Juramis, Chandrellia says, "Becasue you never know who has handled between the bottle, the glass and your lips."

Vaemyr says, "And Drektor's."

Drektor Goes Straight to Questions

Jeshiah yells, "Drektor!"

[OOC note: I forgot to get a LOOK description from him on this night, so I used what he looked like on the first trial night. Hopefully it was the same both times!]

You see Drektor Black.
He appears to be a Human.
He is taller than average and has a fit and robust body. He appears to be an adult. He has fierce mist grey eyes and flawless snowy white skin. He has shoulder length, flowing raven black hair. He has a chiseled, angular face and well-muscled shoulders and arms. He has the image of a broken crown burnt into the flesh of his neck.
He has a rune tattoo on his arm, and a series of smoke-hued feathers inked upon his left hand.
Undecipherable runes are carved into his neck, their edges emanating a dull black glow.
He gives off a troubled demeanor.
He is in good shape.
He is wearing a fitted elven leather jacket fastened with a column of flat black jade buttons, an ebon leather harness over some fitted inky black leather armor, a long-sleeved linen shirt, some faded linen handwraps studded with veil iron, a wide black leather belt with a square buckle, a smooth dark ironwood case set with a labyrinth of silvery vaalin wire, a pair of dark leather pants with black steel hip buckles, and a set of matte black leather boots reinforced with mithglin plates.

Speaking quietly to Juramis, Nyaria says, "Carrying the wine is better, youre never without."

Goldstr says, "Somes like da company."

Stormyrain glances at Drektor.

Stormyrain says, "Oh."

Drektor just climbed down a narrow stairway.

Speaking to Leafiara, Vaemyr says, "Saving you for last I guess."

Stormyrain says, "He's very good at being..unseen."

Speaking lightly to Vaemyr, Leafiara says, "Thadston's mistake."

Drektor glances around the room.

Tayler asks, "Will Wolfloner get a trial?"

Leafiara says, "Not sure if it matters since he was already banished anyway."

Jeshiah applauds Drektor.

Speaking to Tayler, Chandrellia says, "Doubtful, hes already banned."

Speaking to Tayler, Kiyna says, "I doubt he would show up for it. But it's possible."

Drektor just went over and threw himself down on the chair.

Thadston says, "Sure, sit down."

Thadston says, "Get comfortable."

Tayler says, "Ah right, I forgot he was already banished."

Speaking to Tayler, Vaemyr says, "He seemed to not wish to come to the trial, I believe he had a chance here had he wanted it."

The voice of Thrassus says, "Doubtful, he's banished for his actions after the raid, which are entirely seperate."

Juramis smirks.

Thadston says, "I can't wait for your one word answers."

Chandrellia says, "Oh this is gonna be good."

(Drektor sits up straight and stares straight ahead.)

Thadston says, "Nice ink."

Leafiara says, "Glad Thadston knows what to expect."

Geijon says, "Wolfloner is lucky to be alive."

Drektor says, "Thanks."

Stormyrain says, "Yes."

Drektor folds his hands in his lap.

Speaking to Geijon, Tayler says, "So are we all."

Mauss asks, "Will "someone's" voice waver when they call the Lady in Red?"

Thadston asks, "So tell me, were you a Rook before or after having relationships with the town marshal and a town councilor?"

Thadston peers quizzically at Drektor.

Kayse mouths, "Wow."

Drektor clenches his jaw.

Kiyna says, "Oh, he's going right for it."

Stormyrain swears, "What the hell was that."

Thadston asks, "Or was that a development after a broken heart?"

Chandrellia yells, "Dont let him goad you!"

Kayse yells, "Were you a Mayor before or after you had a relationship with Mother?"

Juramis huskily asks, "You need to bury the knife before you twist it. This is a bit out of order, no?"

The voice of Thrassus says, "I suppose trials are not places for tact."

Leafiara yells, "Does he not get an opening statement?"

Juramis shrugs at Leafiara.

Speaking to Thadston, Drektor warns, "Yer outta bounds."

Speaking to Stormyrain, Kayse seethes, "Uncalled for."

Mauss yells, "Sandbag much??"

Drektor says, "After."

Thadston says, "Oh right, excuse me. The nights of grey, lies, and excuses has blurred."

The voice of Thrassus says, "The judge had best get this under control early."

Thadston asks, "Go ahead. Opening statement?"

Thadston peers quizzically at Drektor.

Tikba mildly says, "I suppose we may understand Thadston's mind by seeing how he attempts to understand others."

The Judge nods to Drektor.

Drektor says, "Lets just get on with it."

Juramis huskily says, "I see someone else was worried about fruit being thrown."

Thadston asks, "Is that a quote from you the night of the raid at the Den when faced with the opportunity to sack some supply wagons and starve some imperials?"

Nyaria quietly says, "Rum my bask."

Thadston peers quizzically at Drektor.

Speaking to Thadston, Drektor says, "Not at all."

Nyaria quietly says, "Nope, sorrry no soft fruit."

Cryheart says, "Perhaps stone fruit."

Thadston asks, "So, are you going to answer my first question?"

Thadston asks, "When did your official Rook membership begin in that timeline of romance?"

Thadston smirks.

Leafiara says, "He did. Thadston just missed it in his... whatever this is."

Tayler yells, "I fail to see how that is relevant to what he stands accused of!"

Thadston says, "Conspiracy, so piss off peanut gallery."

Juramis scoffs at the viewing area.

Drektor says, "After."

Drektor says, "And during."

Evia says, "He's attempting to connect various dots of, stuff."

Thadston says, "That makes no sense."

Juramis huskily says, "Someone is sour about not being Mayor soon."

Thadston laughs!

Juramis smirks.

Kiyna yells, "I'd be careful of suggesting romantic relationships amount to conspiracy, given your choice of companion, Mayor."

Chamorr yells, "Hey Thaddy, when zackly did you become an imperial lapdog!"

Kayse reticently says, "I understood what he said perfectly fine."

Vaemyr says, "It was two different people... how doesn't that make sense..."

The Judge glances up at the balcony.

Drektor says, "You asked about two persons.. i gave two answers."

Speaking to Juramis, Geijon says, "Regale us with your popularity."

Thadston says, "Oh, then I guess I take that back."

Juramis huskily says, "I'm not foolish enough to run for mayor."

Speaking to Geijon, Tayler says, "Wine merchants never fail to be popular anywhere there is a semblence of civilization."

Thadston asks, "Did you know that Kayse and Kiyna were Rooks at the time they ran for council?"

Thadston peers quizzically at Drektor.

Arahnim yells, "How bout instead of constantly shouting and interrupting court proceedings, you show a modicum of decorum and keep it up here instead of shouting!"

Drektor says, "Yes."

Jeshiah says, "Isn't that shouting and disru...nevermind."

Thadston nods at Drektor.

Juramis mutters something about acorns.

Thadston asks, "Were you on the mission to Idolone?"

Speaking to Kayse, Stormyrain mutters, "If we're talking timelines, about the same time Drektor and I were more than friends, Casiphia was with Disean Andrews, not Thadston Andrews."

Thadston peers quizzically at Drektor.

Drektor says, "I dunno what mission yer referrin to."

Speaking to Stormyrain, Kayse says, "Apparently he's allowed to do what he wishes."

Geijon says, "Th' Rooks have a long timeline, selectively procured usually."

Kelfyr says, "For three more days, at least."

Juramis glances between Stormyrain and Kayse.

Speaking to Arahnim, Tayler says, "Perhaps you should be less concerned with court proceedings, and more concerned about the longsword you have wedged in your chest."

Speaking to Geijon, Chandrellia says, "You are most definately right."

Thadston chuckles.

Thadston says, "You've already been mentioned as being there."

Evia says, "Selectively procured being the key."

Juramis shrugs at Stormyrain.

Thadston asks, "Want to try again?"

Speaking to Arahnim, Tayler says, "I can imagine that being a bit distracting."

Arahnim says, "Tis but a scratch."

Drektor says, "Be specific."

Leafiara says, "I don't recall such a thing."

Thadston asks, "Specific? Or slower?"

Kiyna says, "...I don't either."

Drektor says, "Whatever is easiest for you."

Thadston asks, "Were you part of the trip south to Idolone with some of your fellow Rooks to make contact and broker a deal with Stephos DeArchon?"

Chamorr heartily says, "Nice answer."

Drektor says, "I was not."

Stormyrain says, "I always do admire Drektor's ability to disarm difficult traps."

Thadston says, "I see."

Evia says, "A nice answer is a truthful answer, not a sheisty one."

Juramis huskily says, "I wonder if the judge also believes Thadston is actually connecting anything together here."

Thadston says, "Fair enough, no one said you were. But it was worth a shot."

Leafiara says, "Ah, so Thadston can lie in court, got it."

Speaking to Arahnim, Irval says, "I know that you are just starting to grasp the common tongue. But lets go back to when you were mostly quiet and grunted."

Speaking to Leafiara, Vaemyr says, "Welcome to prosecuting cases."

Speaking to Juramis, Kelfyr says, "Rather depends on the objective of this...trial."

Thadston asks, "The night of the raid in the Den. What was being discussed? What was being planned with the maps?"

Kayse flatly says, "There are no dots to connect when it comes to our private personal relationships."

Lahanna softly says, "Ohhhh."

High Lady Lahanna's group dissolves into motes of shadowy light that flow down a narrow stairway.

High Lady Lahanna's group dissolves into motes of shadowy light that flow through a modwir arch.

Tikba mildly asks, "How does a prosecutor's lie serve the interests of justice?"

High Lady Lahanna's group dissolves into motes of shadowy light that flow through a modwir arch.

High Lady Lahanna's group dissolves into motes of shadowy light that flow up a narrow stairway.

High Lady Lahanna's group dissolves into motes of shadowy light that flow down a narrow stairway.

High Lady Lahanna's group dissolves into motes of shadowy light that flow through a modwir arch.

Drektor says, "As you've already been told a number of times. we had just laid it out to look at. there wasn't much planned at all."

High Lady Lahanna's group dissolves into motes of shadowy light that flow through a modwir arch.

High Lady Lahanna's group dissolves into motes of shadowy light that flow up a narrow stairway.

Thadston says, "Sweet Kai, stand fricken still Lahanna."

Chandrellia says, "Gee seems someone woke up on the wrong side of the noose today."

Thadston asks, "So no plans to hit the wagons? Steal supplies, hurt imperials?"

Tayler says, "Perhaps they should have commissioned a different staircase."

Thadston peers quizzically at Drektor.

Drektor says, "You should have door coverage. it isnt safe for witnesses."

Juramis huskily asks, "Is the only chair the one Drektor is sitting on?"

Speaking to Juramis, Tayler says, "There should be one that gets dropped into a tank full of electric eels."

Juramis wipes the sweat from his brow.

Thadston asks, "Was there not discussion of how to hit the wagons without hurting innocent people? Or making a move before the Remnants?"

Tikba whispers something to Kayse.

Drektor says, "Our discussions began with that possibility of the wagons bein hit. but yer goon squad showed up right after."

Nordred asks, "When is the execu.. err trial starting?"

Drektor says, "By Remnants mind you."

Speaking to Nordred, Chandrellia says, "Already has."

Thadston says, "So it's fair to say, that is quite different than "we had just laid it out to look at."."

Speaking to Nordred, Kiyna says, "It's ongoing. You can WATCH the AREA if you want to follow it."

Speaking to Cryheart, Geijon says, "I don't recall you getting a trial after being hung."

Thadston says, "Oh, by the Remnants.."

Thadston says, "You so quickly decided to add."

Juramis glances between Geijon and Cryheart.

Thadston says, "How convenient."

Cryheart says, "There was no trial that I recall."

Lahanna softly says, "I don't understand.. why people were hung before a trial..."

Thadston asks, "How would you, Drektor, think to stop or prevent these Remnants from hitting the wagon that you had maps for?"

Speaking to Lahanna, Kiyna says, "I don't either. I'm pressing charges against Thadston myself."

Speaking heartily to Lahanna, Chamorr says, "Hang them then try them."

Irval says, "Same way as setting free krolvin Czag without one I reckon."

The voice of Thrassus says, "Thadston is desperate to keep Casiphia from dying so he acted rather irrationally."

Speaking to Thadston, Drektor asks, "Lookin for tips?"

Nyaria quietly says, "Logical is somthing ive never known this town to be."

The Judge leans in, "Answer the question Drektor."

Chandrellia says, "Yes well, news for him, I just convinced Casi to allow us to help her when he barged in, so her, death, if it comes, is on him."

Kelfyr asks, "The Judge is asking him to speculate?"

Lahanna softly says, "Hang the citizens... free thos that delcare war against the citizenry."

Vaemyr says, "Casiphia supposedly should be here tonight."

Mongur raspily says, "Objection yer honis. Speculatory."

Drektor says, "If we have possible paths on the maps. then positions could be stationed throughout where Rems might target."

The voice of Thrassus says, "I assume she is likely going to turn herself in if she is appearing tonight."

Mongur raspily asks, "Wheres the defense attorney?"

Vaemyr says, "She's appearing as a witness."

Thadston asks, "So your plan might have been, hit the Remnants, protect the imperials?"

Drektor says, "Imperials can protect themselves."

Chandrellia yells, "Call for specultaion your honor!"

Thadston asks, "Does that really correlate to Mother's previous comments about hitting the settlers where it hurts, and making them starve and wish they returned home?"

Speaking to Mongur, Kiyna says, "It's Jeshiah."

The voice of Thrassus says, "Yes, but witnesses that are wanted by the law generally don't get a free pass just for showing up at a trial."

Speaking to Irval, Chandrellia says, "Guess what, no."

Irval says, "You've already had your time in the spot light."

Irval says, "And it was painful."

Speaking to Leafiara, Mauss pleads, "If this's what 'e calls "preparations"... Please, please stand 'em on 'is head."

Mongur sarcastically says, "Could have fooled meh."

Juramis huskily says, "The crowd is a bit rowdy tonight."

Speaking to Irval, Chandrellia asks, "As painful as an arrow to the eye?"

Irval says, "Yep, just about."

The voice of Thrassus says, "I would hope she does if only so she does not die."

Kialeigh says, "Lack of alcohol.. this thing happens."

Drektor says, "It depends on whats in the wagons."

Thadston asks, "Oh?"

One of the gathered townspeople smiles in your direction, her torn cloth headband clearly marked with the phrase, "We're All Rooks."

Thadston says, "Elaborate."

Thadston asks, "What makes the wagons worth hitting to you?"

Speaking to Irval, Chandrellia says, "Oh good, so glad I can be just as painful, ofcourse I dont attack unarmed, citizens in a sancted room either, and you call me evil."

The voice of Thrassus says, "I hope they can keep themselves under control this evening."

Speaking to some gathered townspeople, Kiyna says, "Let's stay quiet about it this time. We don't need to be disruptive."

Drektor says, "That's a question for the Rems isnt it? we just had the map and their path. we would be there for the Rems."

Speaking heartily to Chandrellia, Chamorr asks, "We dont?"

Tikba mildly says, "Perhaps Thadston should have considered the disruption the hangings would have caused."

Speaking to Chamorr, Chandrellia says, "I know you dont."

Speaking calmly to some gathered townspeople, Leafiara says, "Or, at very least, wait until I'm done speaking before you start up."

Thadston asks, "So your intentions were to hit the Remnants first, thus protecting the wagons, and allowing the imperials to travel to the settlement safely?"

Thadston peers quizzically at Drektor.

Speaking to Chandrellia, Tayler says, "Well clearly, you have to break one of those fancy crystals first to break the sanct before you can murder someone in a sancted room."

Drektor says, "That was my understanding."

Thadston says, "I see."

Speaking skeptically to Chandrellia, Tayler says, "Not that I'd know anything about that."

Speaking to Tayler, Chandrellia says, "Wrong, just ask Irval, and how he attcked me in TSC."

Thadston asks, "Do you recall at any time that Mother declared she would strike the imperials where it hurt, work to starve them, and drive them away?"

Thadston peers quizzically at Drektor.

Juramis twiddles his thumbs.

Chamorr yells, "Sounds like a great idea!"

Juramis glances at Chamorr.

Geijon asks, "That was when th' Rooks shot Irval in Townsquare?"

Drektor says, "I dont recall hearing anythin to that effect."

Thadston says, "I see."

Thadston says, "One last question..."

Speaking to Geijon, Chandrellia says, "No this was about 3 days ago or so."

Tikba politely says, "No, the shootings of Irval were on other occasions."

Thadston says, "Let's circle back to your time as a Rook and in a relationship with a town councilor."

Geijon says, "Context is important."

Speaking heartily to Juramis, Chamorr asks, "What?"

Thadston asks, "That was the "during" part correct?"

Drektor nods once.

Speaking huskily to Chamorr, Juramis asks, "We don't need to make enemies out of those who are not trying to be one, do we?"

Juramis shrugs at Chamorr.

Thadston asks, "Did you and the town councilor ever meet alone to discuss Rook plans or developments?"

Speaking to Thadston, Drektor asks, "Wanna know what we had for dinner too?"

Evia says, "Someone should politely inform His Honor that a nod or headshake is not a proper answer."

Thadston says, "Nope. Just the question I asked."

Speaking heartily to Juramis, Chamorr asks, "You mean the usurpers and imperial squaters?"

Drektor says, "No."

Speaking to Chamorr, Chandrellia says, "Easy Bear, we dont need this tonight, please."

Thadston says, "I see."

Speaking heartily to Chandrellia, Chamorr says, "I'll behave, maybe."

Thadston asks, "So your conversations were more filled with the ongoings of the day, sweet nothings, or Black Hand news, but nothing ever with the Rooks?"

Thadston peers quizzically at Drektor.

Chamorr heartily says, "Ow."

Speaking to Thadston, Drektor warns, "Keep pushing."

Thadston says, "It's questioning Drektor. I'm not pushing."

Thadston says, "If you feel that way..."

Tikba mildly says, "Again we see that Thadston cannot imagine a relationship different from his with Casiphia."

Speaking to himself, Mauss says, "If I was as prepared as you are... I'd be doin' this trial in the dead o' night, too, prolly."

Speaking coolly to Stormyrain, Kayse says, "There is not enough scotch for this right now. I didn't realize my ex-relationship would be up for discussion with the court."

Speaking to Tikba, Stormyrain says, "I hope so, I would never date my offspring's ex."

Jeshiah's Followup with Drektor

Thadston says, "I'm done. He's not going to answer anything."

Thadston nods at Jeshiah.

Jeshiah paces back and forth.

Jeshiah exclaims, "Well! Maybe he shouldn't!"

Jeshiah exclaims, "I am...I am appalled!"

Mauss says, "...He answered everything."

Jeshiah says, "Drektor's love of Wehnimer's Landing should be the only topic discussed in that area Mayor."

Jeshiah says, "Soon to be Ex-Mayor."

Drektor shifts his weight.

Jeshiah says, "You may not be on trial yet.."

Jeshiah nods at Thadston.

Jeshiah says, "But Drektor did not share a bed with Mother."

Jeshiah says, "He did not pardon her."

Chamorr heartily says, "Wow."

Jeshiah exclaims, "Drektor!"

Jeshiah asks, "Tell me precisely, what have you done in the last few years to help protect this town and its people?"

Drektor turns to face Jeshiah.

Kiyna suggests, "The extra-legal lynching didn't seem to be great for Thadston's popularity, either."

Kiyna says, "Imagine that."

Juramis agrees with Kiyna.

Tayler says, "Oh, he asked Drektor, I thought he asked Thadston, that would be a rather long list."

Leafiara gazes in amusement at Tayler.

Tayler says, "I suppose it might be either way."

Jeshiah turns an inquisitive ear toward Drektor.

Mongur raspily says, "Yet to hear crime."

Speaking to Jeshiah, Drektor says, "Like everyone else.. or most. ive killed my share of goons or creeps that attack the town."

Geijon says, "A confession wouldn't be wise for any defense."

Jeshiah says, "I think you're being awfully, awfully modest Drektor."

Jeshiah asks, "Mere goons? Creeps?"

Jeshiah exclaims, "Try fire elementals!"

Jeshiah exclaims, "Ground breaking stone trolls!"

Speaking to Mongur, Leafiara says, "They were laid out on the first trial night. Impropriety and Conspiracy, Hooliganism, Endagering Public Safety, Disturbing the Peace, and Treason."

Goldstr says, "Bad question, mos a us, Rooks er nae could easlijy say a tousand."

Drektor says, "It doesnt matter. in truth. im not special. or unique."

Jeshiah exclaims, "Mighty minotaurs, stormy, but not stormyrain, giants!"

Juramis slaps himself on the forehead.

Jeshiah says, "Well now, I'm not your daddy, so I won't get into that feeling stuff..."

Jeshiah exclaims, "But the town is thankful for what you do!"

Speaking softly to Leafiara, Lahanna says, "They are probably right about the hooliganism."

Jiarine asks, "Hrm... who do I watch this sham of a trial again?"

Kiyna says, "Storm giants sometimes come with rain, but that's an entirely separate thing."

Jiarine says, "How..."

Juramis indicates the viewing area as a possible option.

Speaking raspily to Leafiara, Mongur says, "Mongur hear charges, but crimes not heard yet."

Drektor says, "I could be any other person in the town. fed up. im just more capable."

Irval yells, "Its ok to do good when people are watching, its when they are not watching that counts!"

Speaking to Goldstr, Kelfyr says, "That's the point though, he's done what the rest of us have to defend the town."

Nyaria whispers something to Mauss.

Jeshiah says, "I would make one final comment before Drektor you are allowed your closing statement."

Speaking to a polished oak railing, Tayler mouths, "Daddy?"

Speaking to Irval, Kiyna says, "A quote from my opening statement. I'm flattered."

Drektor nods briefly.

Speaking surprisedly to Irval, Leafiara says, "Wow, something I agree with."

Jeshiah says, "I am not sure if it's the...stress from Thadston harping and yelling.."

Jeshiah nods at Drektor.

Irval says, "Didnt realize it was a quote from your opening statement. But if it fits. It fits."

Irval says, "Just don't ask me to go on a boat with you...ever."

Geijon says, "Broad, abstract comment doesn't create truth."

Jeshiah says, "But you were not...involved with any officials within the town at the time you were both a Rook and they held an office."

Speaking to Irval, Chandrellia says, "Awe, our once chance to keel haul you and you refuse a free ride."

Jeshiah says, "If that makes sense. I think it makes sense."

Jeshiah nods.

Tayler says, "Questionable accusations do not denote criminal activity."

Jeshiah says, "So conspiracy? Oh Thadston, you reach."

Jeshiah says, "You reach."

Drektor says, "I was not."

Closing Words

Jeshiah asks, "Do you have any witnesses you'd like to call to speak on your behalf Drektor?"

Jeshiah asks, "Or proceed with your final statement?"

Drektor says, "No one speaks for me."

Kiyna agrees, "Thadston's done many good things for the Landing. You'd be a fool to suggest otherwise. So have I. But it seems when I am accused of a crime, this should negate all good I have done. They don't seem to think so when Thadston murders his people above the law he is supposed to represent."

Jeshiah says, "Well, that is honorable."

Jeshiah asks, "But...are you sure?"

Jeshiah squirms.

Geijon says, "Thadston is no shining example."

Evia says, "Deeds of good are mitigating factors, normally."

Drektor nods once.

Chandrellia recites:

"Do something good, no one remembers

Do something bad, no one forgets"

Geijon says, "Welcome to public service."

Jeshiah asks, "And a closing statement?"

Speaking to Geijon, Kiyna says, "Praise and adulation."

Evia says, "And mitigating factors are all up to the Judge to evalutate, in the end."

Speaking to Kiyna, Tayler says, "Admittedly as wrong as it was, calling it murder is a little iffy because you're all still walking around. If he had buried you then rolled your corpses into a lava pit after making a deal with Lorminstra to usher you all through the gates we'd all be much more appalled."

Drektor says, "Yeah."

Mongur raspily says, "Neh need for witness if no crime."

Chamorr recites heartily:

"No good deed shall go unpunished"

Jeshiah asks, "Beyond the word Yeah?"

Jeshiah ducks his head.

Speaking to Tayler, Kiyna says, "Is there a list of Lorminstra's 'favored' that the law should apply to differently? I am unaware of it, if so."

Speaking to Kiyna, Tayler asks, "Are you not familiar with the codified Arkati-favored legal structure?"

Leafiara murmurs, "And to think *we're* on trial for accusations of threatening violence."

Speaking to Irval, Chandrellia says, "Oh please, threaten me just one more time."

Speaking to Irval, Kelfyr asks, "Did you just threaten someone in the middle of a courtroom?"

Irval says, "No im responding to a threat."

Evia says, "Calm it a little if you can folks, so we can hear better belowe."

Tayler says, "Ladies ladies, you're both pretty."

Irval says, "And made a statement."

Juramis huskily says, "This is the conflict part of the conflict and interest."

Irval says, "Not a threat."

Drektor says, "He has us here on trial for tryin to do right by the town. like i sed. im not special. im not unique. im just a guy able to attempt to keep himself whats important to em safe. more and more folks are gonna reach the ends of their rope."

Juramis nods at Leafiara.

Leafiara nods in agreement at Juramis.

Nordred says, "I thought she was flirting with you honestly."

Chamorr heartily says, "We should have a barfight up here."

Goldstr exclaims, "Less stay Civil Folks!"

Speaking to Irval, Chandrellia says, "Are you now? I never heard me say a threat to you, perhaps you should go see Surty about your ears."

Speaking to Tayler, Kiyna says, "I am not, but if the Arkati favor it, it must be trash."

Jeshiah nods.

Jeshiah applauds Drektor.

Chandrellia says, "Good choice."

Evia says, "Please."

Jeshiah exclaims, "Thank you Drektor!"

Speaking to Kiyna, Tayler says, "Can't say I disagree with you there."

Drektor says, "The time of relyin on elected officials who consistantly fail them is over."

Juramis huskily exclaims, "Nobody throw any fruit!"

Speaking to Irval, Mauss says, "Please, please do the boulder challengin' at the correct time."

Geijon says, "Th' Officials are Rooks though."

Jeshiah nods.

Speaking to Kiyna, Tayler says, "I could roll with attempted murder, though."

Mauss pointedly says, "Which is NOT right now."

Speaking to Mauss, Irval says, "One could only hope."

Drektor folds his hands in his lap.

Speaking to Vaemyr, Geijon says, "Enough of them."

Drektor says, "Im done."

Jeshiah says, "You are welcome to return to the balcony. The people of Wehnimer's Landing thank you."

Drektor stands up.

Tayler says, "Attempted murder times... five? Attempted murder of a government offical times two? Or was it four and three."

Speaking to Thadston, Drektor says, "Be better."

Drektor brushes roughly past Thadston. How rude!

Drektor just went through a modwir arch. [OOC note: That's not the stairway; he left Moot Hall.]

Speaking to Tayler, Mauss says, "I usually ask a Dwarf ta count fer me."

[General] Korpacz asks, "Anyone around the Landing have time to help with guild tasks?"

Speaking to Tayler, Kiyna says, "I was placed on a gallows with six others and quite intentionally killed in plain view in the town square. Without a trial. I did not resist arrest. I was perfectly cooperative. I can't speak for a handful of those who did resist, that's another matter."

Leafiara's Defense

Jeshiah exclaims, "Leafiara!"

You see Whimweaver Leafiara Autumnwind the Holy Flame of Tilamaire.
She appears to be a Half-Sylvan.
She is bathed in a golden sheen of sunlight that mutes the light of Tilaok, causing her aura to shimmer with orange light.
She is moderately tall and has a well-toned frame. She appears to be youthful. She has sparkling green eyes and smooth honey-hued skin. She has shoulder length, tousled cherry red hair framing her face in a disheveled, carefree style. She has a well-defined, heart-shaped face and slightly pointed ears. She has alternating cherry and vanilla polish brushed onto her neatly rounded fingernails.
A myriad of leaf-shaped sweets and treats appear to be following her every move.
Miniature yellow treble clefs spiral outward from her before fading away.
She is in good shape.
Her hands are covered in a light dusting of sugar.
There is a small ruby red sprite flying above her shoulder.
Colorful, wispy threads shimmer in and out of existence, twining and dancing freely around a white imflass manacle encircling her left wrist. Its empty keyway is outlined in a bold red glow that pulsates rhythmically.
She is wearing a silver-linked rook-etched diamond circlet, an asymmetrical cherry red cloak emblazoned with a pure white rook, a leaf-spangled imflass scabbard, a radiant red zelnorn tunic accented by a shining white leaf flourish with a pure white elesine sundress showcasing a skirt-spanning red music staff underneath, a polished bold red vambrace emblazoned with a pure white rook, a polished knotwork platinum wedding band, a silk-lined imflass thigh-sheath, a cherry red leaf-clasped anklet, and a pair of striking pure white ankle-boots buttoned with rook-etched rubies.
Sparkling musical notes spring around her feet, dissipating into colorful mist as she moves.

Leafiara lightly says, "Finally."

Leafiara winks.

Leafiara sets about preparing herself to be as presentable as possible.

Whimweaver Leafiara just climbed down a narrow stairway.

Speaking to Mauss, Chandrellia says, "I ask Dwi but she gets stuck after eleben."

Leafiara smiles.

Leafiara curtsies gracefully.

Leafiara greets, "Judge, Barrister, Mayor, good eve."

Speaking to Thadston, Leafiara says, "And an interesting role reversal from when I had put you to a hearing at then-Captain Stormyrain's request because of the bleakwalker."

Speaking to Kiyna, Tayler says, "Yes... but you were only hung until you were mostly dead."

Thadston shrugs.

Leafiara adopts an agreeable expression.

Leafiara shrugs.

Thadston says, "Ironic, yep."

Speaking to Judge Manard, Leafiara asks, "Time for my opening statement?"

The Judge nods.

Leafiara nods respectfully.

Leafiara clears her throat.

Leafiara begins, "Since I'm being tried as an individual and Thadston is examining our character, I'll use this time to first explain what personally led me to become a Rook, then move to the two charges that most merit my response."

Mauss exclaims, "She's gon' embarrass him all 'e deserves! And den some!!"

Leafiara earnestly states, "I'm known by a litany of titles and memberships, former or current--but before any of them, and with importance above all of them, I was and I am a defender of Wehnimer's Landing. I have been since I moved here in 5116 with a mission to save lives and an aspiration since childhood to be a hero."

Speaking to Kiyna, Tayler says, "Not that I think it was a pleasant experience, but murder generally entails a bit more... permenence."

Speaking mildly to Tayler, Tikba says, "I assure you, the Rooks were dead."

Leafiara explains, "However, as I fought for our town for years, I saw us stuck in an endless cycle of tragedy. Through Dennet and Naimorai Kestrel, through Praxopius Fortney and the Rones, through Vlashandra, through Malluch Burdos' cult of Grishom Stone worshippers, and through whoever was behind the armigers going rogue. Each time, much of our town--myself included--kept falling for the same routine."

Leafiara shakes her head.

Leafiara frankly says, "If anything, maybe failure to stop those threats is what should have had you putting me on trial for years now. I'd have no defense. None."

Leafiara seriously says, "I grew so miserable over our losses that at one point Marshal Stormyrain privately suggested I should consider retiring from Landing defense before it stripped the 'veil of youth' from my eyes and I lost my laughter. I always challenge whether I could have done better, could have done more, should have acted differently. Squire Alosaka calls it 'self-serving guilt,' but I call it trying to be better."

Leafiara continues, "Who's been held accountable for a past steeped in death? Not me. Arguably not most of the people responsible for killing our citizens. At times I even tried to take blame for wrongs only to find my friends creating excuses on my behalf without my asking or wanting any."

Geijon says, "Faced all those same tragedies."

Leafiara simply says, "And eventually I couldn't take it anymore."

Leafiara professes, "I dreamed of being a hero, but what is a hero? That's defined by a person's actions and heart, not others' perceptions and love. So I only saw myself becoming a fraud and a failure chasing the latter."

Leafiara rhetorically asks, "Because what's the value of a shield never lifted until after the enemy has already struck?"

Leafiara glances up.

Leafiara clearly says, "But I am a Rook because the town doesn't benefit from me trying to be a third-rate imitation of Sir Cryheart or Marshal Stormyrain--it benefits from me being a first-rate Leafiara. The one and only."

Leafiara smiles.

Leafiara says, "Now, on to the charges, I wanted to briefly respond to two. First, Impropriety and Conspiracy."

Thadston squints.

Leafiara wonderingly asks, "Know why we're called the 'Brotherhood'?"

Leafiara answers, "Because our priority is our brothers, our sisters, our parents, children, family, friends. If it's between protecting our propriety or protecting our people, I'll choose our people every time."

Leafiara philosophically says, "Because laws are made to serve the people, not the other way around."

Leafiara contends, "When people worry that their defenders value their laws more than--or even just as much as--their lives, then they'll find ways to defend themselves."

The ruby red sprite flying above Leafiara's shoulder flits around her head a few times.

Leafiara says, "However, regarding the charge of Endangering Public Safety..."

Leafiara reasons, "Again, there's a case that I was guilty of this before joining the Rooks due to negligence and being too reactive against past threats as a Mayor and Councilor."

Leafiara decisively states, "But I've never endangered the Landing *after* joining the Rooks."

Leafiara firmly says, "In all these recent conflicts, I almost always stuck very close to or inside our gates while battles raged. As many others dashed off to protect the camp, I remained here unless I saw our streets so thoroughly protected that I felt confident no more lives would be lost if I moved to the front lines."

Leafiara continues, "Furthermore, Chandrellia, Pukk, and I are among the best battlefield tacticians the Landing has. Along with Stormyrain, I'd say we're the most consistent about sending thoughts to keep people apprised on the changing circumstances of battle, directing or acting as reinforcements where needed, and informing less skilled defenders where they can best help and encouraging them on."

Leafiara reasonably argues, "Rapidly assessing and relaying battle conditions is a great strength of theirs and mine. From that light, it's only natural that defending this town eventually led me into a group at the forefront of gathering information. It's good to respond quickly to the present, but it's better still to prepare for the future."

Leafiara concludes, "And that's how I arrived where I am."

Leafiara nods to Judge Manard.

The Judge nods.

Jeshiah says, "I'm not crying, you're crying."

Leafiara admits, "Chandy's closing statement previously might have gotten me there."

Leafiara nods at Jeshiah.

Thadston asks, "Are you done?"

Leafiara says, "Yes."

Leafiara nods at Thadston.

Thadston's Questions

Thadston says, "Malluch did pose a large threat to our town and people."

Thadston says, "That's true."

Leafiara nods.

Thadston asks, "For the record, can you remind me who was the Mayor who pardoned him once the town worked to capture and imprison him?"

Thadston peers quizzically at Leafiara.

Leafiara agrees, "It was me. As I implied."

Thadston says, "Implied, but didn't clearly state."

Leafiara concedes, "Fair."

Thadston says, "So I wanted to make sure everyone knew."

Leafiara reasons, "I wished to prevent a budding riot and the threat of Stone's blood golems attacking us."

Chandrellia whispers something to Kayse.

Thadston says, "Tell me again, I'm getting older, and sifting through the crap the last few nights has taken its toll..."

Leafiara says, "I will, however, point out that I had initially agreed with your assessment that we should drive the blood cult away from our lands."

Thadston asks, "Who was responsible for poisoning Rysus?"

Kiyna says, "And more recently, Thadston himself pardoned Casiphia. Ah, the cycle."

Leafiara says, "A more complex question, that. I handed over the vial containing the poison, but I did warn the Rook who came for it to test it thoroughly because I suspected it wasn't what it seemed."

Thadston says, "So indirectly, directly...debatable."

Thadston shrugs.

Thadston asks, "Did you poison Rysus so you could try to take over the Rooks?"

Juramis rubs his chin thoughtfully.

Leafiara says, "The poison was created by Praxopius, so he should be considered here as well. For some reason, credit in the narrative has at times gone entirely to me."

Leafiara looks thoughtful for a moment, then shrugs.

Thadston says, "Regardless of the source of the poison..."

Thadston asks, "Did you poison Rysus so you could try to take over the Rooks?"

Leafiara says, "No, or else I wouldn't have extended a warning to the Rook messenger."

Thrassus says, "A few of us stabbed Rysus as he was dying from the poison as well."

Thadston asks, "Do you wish you would have taken over the Rooks?"

Juramis can offer Thrassus only a blank expression.

Speaking to Juramis, Chandrellia says, "He wasnt a nice fellow."

Vaemyr says, "Rysus deserved it."

Juramis attends to his gold brocade mantle, making the mantle as presentable as possible.

Thrassus says, "The Rooks tossed us daggers as an invitation."

Leafiara replies, "Are you asking if I wished that getting credit for killing Rysus would have led the Rooks to make me their leader?"

Geijon asks, "Folks remember Rysus?"

Tikba amusedly says, "I suppose that night you were all Rooks."

Thadston says, "No. I'm asking if at any time you wish you would have taken over or led the Rooks."

Leafiara surprisedly says, "Oh."

Leafiara acknowledges, "The thought's crossed my mind."

Leafiara grins.

Tayler says, "Could have at least given him a clean swipe through the neck with a warsword or an axe."

Speaking to Geijon, Mauss says, "He'll use whatevva he thinks works, he don' care what we remember."

Speaking to Geijon, Raelee asks, "Why would we not?"

Thadston says, "I think we're all glad Rysus is dead. There's no question there."

Thadston nods at Leafiara.

Kiyna says, "The Old Rooks are gone. Rysus with them. Good riddance, I say."

Thadston says, "I think you made an interesting point earlier."

Leafiara says, "I do feel I could have done a better job than Rysus, and certainly Drangell."

Thrassus says, "The poison made him literally melt away into ichor."

Thadston says, "Our town has seen a lot of crisis."

Leafiara nods at Thadston.

Thadston says, "A lot of trouble."

Speaking to Kiyna, Tayler says, "You know I was thinking, all of this wouldn't have been an issue if you all had rebranded better."

Tayler says, ""New Rooks" is a little..."

Thadston says, "I think it's important for those in the balcony to remember though.."

Thrassus says, "It was rather gruesome to watch."

Thadston says, "The Brotherhood of Rooks have created much of it."

Vaemyr says, "Most of Rysus's followers were also purged by Casiphia and Rooks loyal to her soon after his death too, it was pretty ugly."

Speaking to Tayler, Kiyna says, "Let it be said, we suggested to Casiphia we should change the name."

Raelee quietly remarks, "... I may have some of him in a jar somewhere."

Leafiara says, "I wouldn't agree with that assessment since Casiphia took over. But in Rysus' and Drangell's days, certainly."

Leafiara nods.

Speaking to Kiyna, Vaemyr asks, "Sisterhood of the Rooks maybe?"

A small group of the gathered townspeople begins to quietly chant, "We're All Rooks." but quickly stop after several sideways glances.

Thadston says, "Abducting Cosima...burning her alive on the roof of Wayside Inn."

Thadston says, "Enraged Davard and Talador even more."

Speaking to Tayler, Chandrellia whispers aloud, "You should see what she keeps under the outpost."

Thadston says, "Attacking Hendorans at the Outpost..."

Thadston says, "Firing arrows on Vornavian merchant ships bringing supplies to the town..."

Geijon says, "Murdering Milita."

Thadston says, "Killing militiamen to lure Rone..."

Juramis frowns.

Speaking to Chandrellia, Tayler whispers aloud, "I'm sure it's not as bad as what they keep in the basement of the Basilica."

Thadston says, "Last I checked. Militia were citizens."

Speaking to Tayler, Chandrellia says, "You have no idea."

Leafiara interjects, "More than half of these happened before I moved here, but, yes, I saw Rysus commit atrocities."

Thadston says, "Another question then."

Leafiara nods.

Speaking to Tayler, Chandrellia says, "Sshh shes on to us."

Leafiara tilts her head toward Thadston, examining him intently as the tip of one ear twitches briefly.

Thadston asks, "The Rooks of the past have caused a lot of tragedies and issues. Drangell. Rysus. Bad apples, bad leaders, cruel leaders. Is it fair to say that it might be difficult for some people to move past that? To give another chance and try to see the Rooks in a new light?"

Thadston peers quizzically at Leafiara.

The ruby red sprite flying above Leafiara's shoulder lays down midair and starts to snore.

Leafiara agrees, "It would be very natural and even expected for many to feel that way."

Thadston nods.

Thadston asks, "Are you of the mind then that we should be willing and open to review the Rooks in a different light, reflect on the good they're trying to do, and stop focusing on the bad ones from before?"

Leafiara somberly says, "The sight and stench of corpses is hard to forget even when they aren't your family and friends, never mind when they are."

Vaemyr mutters, "Really shoulda changed the name."

Speaking simply to Thadston, Leafiara affirms, "I very much am."

Leafiara reasons, "Times change."

Speaking to Vaemyr, Kiyna stresses, "I tried."

Leafiara says, "Our town has a cherished belief in redemption."

Thadston asks, "Then are you of the same mind that we should be willing and open to review our imperial allies in a different light, reflect on the good they're trying to do, and stop focusing on the bad ones from before?"

Leafiara says, "Lady Alendrial has gone from banished to our next Mayor in mere days." [OOC note: Heh, poor phrasing on my part led to some confusion below. I realized it would happen right after I said it, but Leafi said what she said and people reacted, so it stays unedited. It would have been more clear if 'in mere days' were 'days from now,' or, better yet, if I'd gone with my first instinct of a more detailed line like 'Lady Alendrial has gone from banished years ago to pardoned to Steward of the Coffers for over five years to our next Mayor soon.']

Thrassus says, "A fair question."

Kiyna says, "...Well, she's been Steward of the Coffers for a long while now."

Vaemyr says, "Was a councilor before then too."

Leafiara advises, "I'll agree we should be open to considering it, but I feel we should keep an eye open just in case, as it were."

Kayse says, "She's been back in town for almost six years, wasn't exactly a quick transition."

Mauss asks, "Jus' me... or is she twistin' da knife??"

Thrassus says, "It's understandable, she's been busy with her duties instead of making public appearances."

Leafiara adds, "And I would say the same to skeptics of the Rooks."

Leafiara continues, "Casiphia has also said the same. Trust comes with time, not immediately."

Mongur raspily says, "Broken trust, repair more difficult sometime."

Thadston says, "I see."

Irval produces a putrescent eyeball from the depths of his leather duster.

Speaking to his putrescent eyeball, Irval asks, "Do you see?"

Leafiara smiles.

Thadston asks, "Did you conspire to oust Amos as a Steward of the Guilds because it was a Rook operation?"

Leafiara replies, "Glad you asked."

Leafiara answers, "It was the exact opposite."

Leafiara says, "Bear with me for a moment."

Leafiara clears her throat.

Thadston sighs.

Jeshiah winks at Thadston.

Chandrellia says, "Oh this is good."

Leafiara says, "Chandy, Pukk, and I didn't even realize that it was possible for the council to remove a Steward."

Mauss mutters, "...drown 'im!!"

Leafiara says, "We only thought of serving the town and didn't look deeply enough into the the new laws to have realized."

The orange cat rubs up against some gathered townspeople.

Juramis stares at a huge orange cat.

The orange cat gazes with interest at some gathered townspeople.

Leafiara recounts, "Now, I can tell you there was a night when Casiphia mentioned to Pukk and I--Chandy wasn't there that night--that it was a possibility. However, in the same breath she warned against it."

Leafiara says, "She said that it would stir up a hornet's nest, as it eventually did."

Thadston says, "So the idea sparked first in a Rook meeting..."

Kiyna says, "Yeah... Casiphia was enraged that this happened... this was the furthest thing from a Rook move."

Kayse says, "Actually, I warned against it and she agreed."

Leafiara says, "No."

Juramis nods.

Leafiara says, "Councilor Fahlo, not a Rook, was the one to bring it forth publicly."

Vaemyr says, "Thought it was Fahlo's idea originally actually." [OOC note: Leafi wasn't clear enough, in the interest of time because I as a player already feeling I was running long, so I'll jump in. Casiphia mentioned the idea to Chandy, Leafi, and Pukk before Fahlo mentioned it, and she didn't want the council to do it. By the kind of serendipitous coincidence you just can't make up, Fahlo would independently bring up the idea to the council days later because, unlike the other three councilors of the time, he had reviewed the new laws to know it was possible. So, in the timeline of the game, the idea was first mentioned in a Rook meeting. However, that's different from it "sparking," which prompts Leafi to disagree, because she feels that no action would have been taken if Fahlo didn't set things into motion and publicly call for a council vote.]

Leafiara says, "I can't speak to Pukk's motivations."

Leafiara says, "But it left me in a quandary."

Leafiara says, "Given the content of what I'd campaigned on, I had no public justification for not agreeing with Fahlo's move."

Geijon says, "Sounds like a lot of divergent agendas."

Leafiara says, "He had been the most opposed to Amos of all that council."

Leafiara says, "I made the anti-Rook move in ousting Amos."

Leafiara says, "Because Casiphia was right. It made him a martyr and rallied support behind him."

Speaking to Geijon, Kiyna says, "Everyone has their own agenda. Rooks aren't special in that regard."

Thadston says, "Again, Rooks making more problems then fixing them."

Thadston nods.

Leafiara says, "That's likely also why it was Pukk and I who were the quickest to express willingness to reconsider or reverse the decision."

Thadston says, "I only have one more question."

Leafiara relents, "I suppose that's for the Judge to decide."

Leafiara nods at Thadston.

Leafiara tilts her head toward Thadston, examining him intently as the tip of one ear twitches briefly.

Speaking heartily to Chandrellia, Chamorr says, "This behavin stinks, im goin ta sleep."

Thadston says, "I've been alerted there could be a confirmed Rook in the town militia."

Thadston asks, "Care to share his name?"

Leafiara says, "Interesting."

Leafiara says, "That's not his name, but interesting that you were alerted about this and not about Kayse."

Kayse abruptly asks, "Why am I bringing brought into this?"

Vaemyr asks, "Huh?"

Speaking to Kayse, Stormyrain says, "It's a swipe at me, not you."

[pause]

Thadston asks, "The name?"

Speaking to Stormyrain, Kayse says, "I do not care."

[pause]

Thadston says, "Or I can share it. Just wanted to give you another chance to be a little bit louder."

Leafiara says, "Since the Marshal had agreed that she would wish me to share if you did ask... then I'll answer."

Leafiara says, "Asben."

Thadston nods.

Leafiara says, "I would not have shared if she didn't agree to such."

Leafiara says, "In case she felt it would jeopardize militia operations."

Thadston says, "I think his presence already has done that."

Kayse mentions, "That logic is flawed."

Leafiara says, "I will tell you he hasn't met with us in many months."

Thadston says, "I won't even ask if you agree, you won't."

Leafiara says, "Not since the barony moved next door, in fact."

Leafiara looks thoughtful for a moment, then shrugs.

Thadston says, "I have no questions left. None she'll answer."

Thadston nods at Jeshiah.

Jeshiah says, "I was asked not to provide a defense."

Jeshiah shrugs.

Leafiara comments, "Bit of an assumption there considering what I just answered, but."

Jeshiah says, "I thought I had my first client but..."

Jeshiah frowns.

Speaking to Jeshiah, Leafiara says, "That's... not quite what my letter said."

Leafiara furrows her brow.

Jeshiah says, "Oh well..true..."

Leafiara explains, "I only said I didn't wish murder charges pressed against Thadston on my behalf."

Jeshiah says, "She did not want charges brought against you."

Leafiara nods.

Jeshiah nods at Thadston.

Jeshiah says, "See, that's what real Rooks do."

Jeshiah strikes a heroic pose.

Leafiara acknowledges, "Some of the others feel differently."

Jeshiah says, "I have no questions for Leafiara. She has summed up why she joined the Rooks, and made the case that they have changed in light of new leadership."

Leafiara nods.

Jeshiah says, "The Remnants are our enemies now, the Rooks are no more the old as Hendorans are Hochstib."

Kiyna says, "I offered to drop my charges against Thadston. All I wanted was an apology. An acknowledgement that what he did was not what he should have done. He laughed at me."

Closing Words

Jeshiah asks, "A final statement?"

Jeshiah peers quizzically at Leafiara.

Tayler says, "Laughed at you and told you to piss off, if I recall."

Leafiara slowly empties her lungs.

Leafiara quotes, "It isn't about right or wrong. Rarely do we get to make those decisions. What is right? Protecting our people is right. We make all of our decisions with that in mind. So it is not about right or wrong. It is about how many will die and how many will not."

Leafiara says, "These words come from Mayor Thadston himself, in reply to Kiyna, who said she thought we'd done what was right on the night we released the krolvin warlord Tyrrax. We knew full well that the krolvin fleet would probably continue pillaging somewhere, but the important part was that that somewhere wasn't here. We saved our own because sometimes that's all we have the ability to do."

Thadston squints.

Leafiara says, "We might wish for perfect solutions and clean victories, but those are just as rare as clear decisions of right and wrong. That's why we need multiple approaches. Rooks, Gryphons, militia."

Juramis frowns.

Juramis nods at Thrassus.

Leafiara lightly says, "I probably would have been disappointed and left the Rooks by now if it were any other way."

Juramis frets.

The orange cat nimbly jumps into Juramis's open arms and nestles into the crook of his arm.

Lord Juramis just trudged down a narrow stairway.

Lord Juramis just trudged through a modwir arch.

Kayse slowly asks, "Is she recruiting now?"

Leafiara sincerely says, "I think she kept listening to us because, despite our disagreements, she believes in our team, as I do. She believes in our Brotherhood, as I do. She believes in our family, as I do, and she knows that family does fight."

Leafiara concludes, "We are the new Rooks--and, both before and after joining, all that we do is because we love Wehnimer's Landing and our people."

Leafiara says, "I'm finished."

Irval says, "Should change your name then."

Speaking to Irval, Kiyna says, "We tried."

Irval says, "Not hard enough."

Speaking to Irval, Kiyna says, "Casiphia wasn't having it."

Jeshiah lets out a cheer!

Speaking to Irval, Chandrellia asks, "Well when you join us you can help pick one hows that?"

Jeshiah applauds.

Leafiara curtsies gracefully.

Vaemyr says, "They might still will, whom knows."

Thadston says, "Sometimes I wish it was."

Thadston nods.

The Judge nods and motions to the stairway.

Leafiara simply says, "Believe what you will, then."

Leafiara wishes, "Good eve."

Whimweaver Leafiara just climbed up a narrow stairway.
