Synopsis

Future Baron Elidal greets everyone over thoughts, saying he's been told they should have a discussion and inviting people to the garden at the campsite. After everyone arrives, he says he appreciates everyone's defense of the outpost against the Ember Vale reivers' forces and has sent his congratulations to new Mayor Alendrial, then moves on to business, as he's aware not many are pleased with Commander Sablo. Goldstr, Leafiara, and Marshal Stormyrain agree; Perigourd says he thinks it's more in Sablo's manner than action; Stormy, Kelfyr, Leafi, and Councilor Kiyna disagree with Perigourd.

Elidal says we can debate in circles, but the Ember Vale has declared war and asks if people think they now intend diplomacy. Perigourd says that've not made indication of wanting peace yet; Elidal asks if they now have with Rheshay imprisoned; Kelfyr, Tikba, and Councilor Vaemyr say Sablo stopped anyone from knowing whether they would have.

Elidal asks if Wehnimer's Landing is prepared to pivot its efforts and stance against the krolvin and Tyrrax since the Ember Vale continues to accuse the Landing of allying with him. Goldstr says Tyrrax was freed to save innocents; Elidal says "or freed to redirect the loss of innocents," depending upon which coast you stand. Elidal says he's open to peace with the Ember Vale, but he worries and has heavy concerns.

Chandrellia says Elidal can see it as he wishes, but it was done for a reason that Mayor Thadston saw fit; Elidal says he's not saying he would have done differently and is being more observant than critical. Goldstr suggests that Elidal let the Ember Vale know the Barony won't rob their lands; Elidal says they told the Landing that and it's still resisted and slandered as lies, so he asks if the reivers will be more practical than Landing citizens.

Kiyna reminds that when the reivers abducted children, Haidan responded quickly to punish those who did it and then returned the children. Elidal asks what she'd have him do, then: release Rheshay and hope they stop targeting farmers, shepherds, river boats, and towers? He says "We did not abduct Reiver children. We captured a combatant"; Kiyna says they did it during a peace talk with her sword planted in the ground. Leafi asks if there was a "we" in the capture, asking if Elidal or Sablo issued the order; Elidal says Sablo is the Commander and Elidal became aware afterward.

Elidal asks what Rheshay's purpose in the meeting was; Perigourd says she mentioned the krolvin, but then Kelfyr, Tikba, Vaemyr, and he (Perigourd) say the conversation was only beginning when Sablo interrupted. Elidal concludes that it's likely possible Rheshay only sought an accord with Wehnimer's Landing, not the barony.

Kelfyr says some lessons refuse learning (in reference to Sablo acting on his own); Chandy asks if Sablo decided to act for himself; Elidal says a field commander doesn't need approval for every decision in war; Chandy says it does when it affects those he's taken to protect; Kelfyr says a field commander should have the judgment to carry out orders without prior approval and asks if Sablo demonstrates such judgment; Elidal nods at him. (OOC note: I think Elidal only heard the statement and not the question there, though.)

Meanwhile, Elidal's father Ferwin arrives.

Stormy says the Landing is still a sovereign state and, instead of honoring the Landing's agreements, Sablo took advantage of the situation, interrupted a hopeful diplomatic conversation, and violated the accord they had in the moment. She asks if the bigger issue is not the reivers, but the alliance between the Landing and the barony and the necessary respect for it flourish; Elidal agrees and says he doesn't intend to squash an enemy at the sacrifice of an ally. That's why they meet tonight and why Aronia let everyone meet with Rheshay; Stormy reiterates that the issue isn't Rheshay, but how the Landing was treated by Sablo and how Elidal continues to allow him to treat the Landing.

Elidal says he can't release Rheshay without terms or a measure of insurance; Ferwin scoffs at the idea; Elidal tells him he should be asleep; Ferwin says he won't sleep in the "stone pit" (the outpost) until Rheshay's body is smacking against the side of the ramparts. Perigourd says Rheshay may assist in destabilizing Tyeid; Elidal says that's not an assurance.

Elidal says Haidan may have released the children and butchered those who were to blame because he knew that is how his enemies would have responded and accept and respect it, and unlocking the door for Rheshay doesn't show the respect people think it might to the Ember Vale; Leafi asks when he became an expert on their culture; Elidal says he isn't one. Ferwin says to release her in a few bags. Kelfyr challenges the idea that Haidan flaying his own people is what we'd respect; Elidal says it has people defending him and his actions. Kiyna questions whether releasing Rheshay after a promise of words (instead of just releasing her) would work any better since reivers don't often deal in words.

Ferwin starts to say he'll tell Elidal how to release her; Elidal motions for some soldiers to engage Ferwin in stories of the river, distracting him long enough to get him away from the area. Elidal apologizes for his father, calling him a shadow of a once good and proud lord who lost a lot of business and good men to reivers near home.

Stormy says she's less concerned with the actions of the Vale than with the actions of Sablo that paint the Landing as subservient to the barony's political decisions when the Landing is conducting its own political negotiations.

Meanwhile, Vaemyr says releasing Rheshay weakens Tyeid and that's more than Elidal will achieve by keeping her captured, pointing out that Tyeid isn't rescue her; Elidal says that shows promise and a fracture they've been looking for. Tikba says Rheshay suggested she'd like to remove Tyeid; Elidal asks if she thinks she would; Tikba says she (Rheshay) would also like to remove Sablo. Elidal says he has concerns since he's received reports that Rheshay's desire to be rid of Tyeid wasn't overly convincing as long as the Empire is still here.

Stormy asks Councilor Kayse if she's being ignored because she's female or not loud enough; Kayse says probably, and she's not the only one; Kelfyr says there are topics Elidal rather wouldn't think about; Leafi says he has selective hearing. Elidal says it's late and asks what Stormy is trying to get him to answer; Stormy repeats her statement; Elidal says he heard it; Kelfyr asks if he then ignored it; Elidal says he didn't understand she had meant a question and wouldn't presume so quickly as Kelfyr, telling him that doesn't benefit anyone whether he's an Envoy or not in the future; Kelfyr says quickly was not the rate at which he presumed it, and whether Elidal releases his prisoner is his decision but whether the Landing can deal honorably with its neighbors is a larger issue.

Back to Stormy's point, Elidal says the Ember Vale has been declared an enemy by the barony and the Landing. He says the barony respects the Landing's ability to do many things and he doesn't know what Sablo heard or saw before he launched the ambush, but that Sablo claimed to him it was more of the same and talk of the krolvin, and Sablo didn't want to miss an opportunity for information and leverage. However, Elidal says, it seems from everyone's reactions that more time should have been merited. Stormy says Sablo should work with her, Thadston, and the Gryphons since he has much to learn; Elidal says he does and we all do; Stormy says it's a unique experience and their foundation for the next hundred and two hundred years is being informed now.

Elidal says he'll implore Sablo to apply further restraint and caution, he won't leash him as a commander while in war; he tells Marshal Stormy the reason he didn't focus more on her statement wasn't out of disrespect, but that what's done is done and he's interested in forward thought and action, not circles of the past. Stormy says Sablo needs to trut the Landing at least a little and work with us, not against, as the mishap could have been avoided and the Landing and barony could have gotten what they needed if Sablo had communicated with her or the Gryphons; she also says it concerns her that Elidal doesn't see her statement as forward thought and action.

Elidal says we don't know the full extent of Rheshay's parley; Chandy says we'll never know now; Elidal says that's correct, but people are heavily assuming in one direction. He says regardless of how we got to this point, we've learned and progressed from it all; Leafi asks who the "we" is; Elidal says we've confirmed a fracture within the Ember Vale; Leafi says Rheshay already expressed that before Sablo barged in.

Elidal says he understands feelings were hurt and the situation wasn't handled as everyone would have liked, so he's sorry for Sablo's execution, but not his result. Vaemyr says he thinks Rheshay is changing her mind about the necessity of Tyeid in the Vale's war against the Empire and will try and stop him; Elidal says belief and hope sound good and he's usually the first to agree with those approaches, but he's also tired of burying his people. Chandy asks if the Landing isn't; Elidal says he didn't say they weren't and cautions again about presuming, saying he wouldn't assume she wants innocents harmed despite her history as a convicted member of the Brotherhood of Rooks; she says she still defends the campsite; he agrees and says that's why he warned against presuming his intentions with words.

Kayse says we need to negotiate something that Rheshay needs or wants. Tikba says Elidal would like to make a deal with his prisoner who he captured during a parley, but is afraid she may not be trustworthy; Elidal says it's less about trust and more with results, because he worries releasing her will change nothing or too little and more of his people will die. He says perhaps it was easy for the Landing's arbiters to release Tyrrax, and perhaps it was wise or foolish, but this decision isn't easy for him; if it wasn't easy for them, then they should understand, but if it was easy for them, then don't pretend to understand.

Goldstr says more will die by keeping her; Kayse asks if Elidal doesn't already believe such; Stormy says he should already have seen who the Vale will send for Rheshay and the significant loss of life in the outpost. Elidal says people will die in war, but perhaps Rheshay's imprisonment offers leverage to lessen, slow, or stop the killing.

Kayse says she and others keep mentioning deals and leverage but are met with resistance; Leafi says it's the same as when Elidal first came to hear proposals but then rejected them all; Elidal frowns and says past grievances are endless; Leafi says anyone can change, including him. Elidal says releasing Rheshay without an agreement, deal, or plan undermines his commander, diminishes his people's morale, and has already damaged his relationship with the Landing, so not gaining from it all would mean part of a bridge burned for nothing.

Leafi asks what assurances or terms Elidal would be looking for from Rheshay. Elidal says he's not sure, which is why he sough to speak with the Landing, since she hasn't spoken much to Imperial soldiers. Vaemyr asks if Elidal's mother has gotten anything out of Rheshay for reading to her; Elidal says he's sure she's gotten some. Kelfyr agrees with a point from Tikba that Elidal's not in a great position to set terms; Elidal says that's arguable.

Goldstr says Elidal's about to be a baron, so let nearby villages and towns know he's not invading; Elidal reiterates that he's already declared that to the Landing and many in town don't listen, so why would words on paper sway the reivers?

Tikba reminds that Rheshay suggests that Sablo, Tyrrax, and Tyeid are the greatest obstacles to peace; Elidal says one is his, one is the Vale's, and one is the Landing's. Tikba says Tyrrax would take a larger discussion, we all agree that Tyeid is no friend of anyone, and Sablo is Elidal's to consider. Elidal says he won't send Sablo away again, but can refocus his efforts on the Darkstone Castle campaign to remove him from conflict with the reivers.

Elidal says he thinks tonight has been a starting point, but he's tired of circles and grievances. He says they'll arrange another meeting with Rheshay this week. He regrets that Sablo's execution of his plan fractured anything he and the Landing were working toward together; Kayse says a cracked well can still be patched up; Elidal says there must be stonemasons on both sides.

Perigourd says the krolvin are a mutual foe for the Empire and reivers; Elidal says he worries the reivers don't consider the krolvin an enemy of the Landing and that might need to be fixed. He says he can divert Sablo, but asks if the Landing can denounce Tyrrax. Leafi says "fixing" that might mean bringing krolvin fleets down on the entire area; Perigourd says that might happen anyway if Icemule Councilor Roelon's visions of a volcano endangering Glaoveln are true.

Kayse says destroying the truce with Tyrrax would require the barony assist against the krolvin and Grishom Stone and asks if that's a deal Elidal would be willing to make; Elidal says the krolvin and Stone are their enemy, so he nods and the deal doesn't even need to be signed; Kayse says perhaps it does if the well is still broken.

Elidal says they'll meet again and he feels they've made progress tonight, then wishes everyone a good night.

Awaiting Elidal

[Town Square Central]

This is the heart of the main square of Wehnimer's Landing. The impromptu shops of the bazaar are clustered around this central gathering place, where townsfolk, travellers, and adventurers meet to talk, conspire or raise expeditions to the far-flung reaches of Elanith. At the north end, an old well, with moss-covered stones and a craggy roof, is shaded from the moonlight by a strong, robust tree. The oak is tall and straight, and it is apparent that the roots run deep. You also see the Bugbe disk, the Emmeranne disk, the Izaneth disk, the Teutalalla disk, a gargantuan cloudy grey tiger, a grizzled porcupine, the Stormyrain disk, the Kelfyr disk, the mist-hazed Noctiss disk, the Bramard disk, a large acorn, a handful of sunflower seeds, a drake dagger, a gnawed oaken wand, some wolifrew lichen, an old well, some wide stone benches with some stuff on it, an herbal remedy donation bin and a round silver-banded barrel.

Also here: Whimweaver Leafiara, Bugbe, Emmeranne, Teutalalla, Lord Izaneth, Delyorik who is sitting, Andromalius, Jaffrey, Stormyrain, Kelfyr, Lord Noctiss, Markx, Bramard, Boiba

[General] Leafiara notes, "Seems there's rain coming into the Landing now!"

Speaking to Delyorik, Diablic says, "Well its been a bad day."

Speaking to Leafiara, Diablic asks, "Want a hug?"

Speaking curiously to Diablic, Leafiara asks, "Sure, why not?"

Speaking to Diablic, Delyorik asks, "Pay your fine, eh?"

Diablic gives Leafiara a friendly hug.

Leafiara gives Diablic a friendly hug.

Markx says, "O here. we go."

Diablic yells, "Nekkid Elf hugs in TSC!"

Speaking to Leafiara, Markx says, "See. Now everyone shows up."

[General] Diablic thinks, "Nekkid Elf hugs in TSC."

[General] Witfog exclaims, "It's just a nice breeze!"

Delyorik says, "I'm not scared of a naked elf."

Stormyrain says, "Pukk was just looking for you."

Stormyrain nods at Chandrellia.

Delyorik says, "There."

[General] Elidal thinks, "Good evening."

[General] Chandrellia thinks, "Evening Elidal."

[General] Diablic asks, "A little colder than usual in Landing tonight eh?"

Leafiara thoughtfully says, "You know, if anyone attacks this late, it would be pretty wise--"

Leafiara suddenly ssay, "Oh, Elidal."

Diablic says, "Odd."

Diablic says, "Better."

[General] Leafiara agrees, "A little rainier."

[General] Delyorik thinks, "I'm perfectly dropp... I mean warm."

Diablic asks, "Anyone else for nekkid elf hugs before I get my items back?"

[General] Stormyrain greets, "Elidal, evening."

Speaking to Diablic, Delyorik says, "Go get dressed, ya goof."

Speaking to Delyorik, Diablic says, "Hopefully I dont get lost going over there."

Delyorik says, "Oh..."

[General] Goldstr thinks, "Hail Lord Elidal."

Delyorik gives Chandrellia a lingering kiss on the cheek.

Delyorik nods at Chandrellia.

Delyorik says, "There... now my night's complete."

Delyorik says, "Oh... wait... I did forget one thing."

Delyorik smiles.

Delyorik pinches Leafiara!

Delyorik nods.

Leafiara flails her arms about.

Leafiara pinches Delyorik!

Delyorik says, "There we go."

[General] Elidal thinks, "I've been told we should have a discussion."

Speaking to Leafiara, Chandrellia says, "Depending where he pinched ya I'll rub it make it feel better."

[General] Leafiara acknowledges, "Likely for the best."

[General] Tikba thinks, "That is always wise."

Delyorik says, "Well, there was this one spot..."

Delyorik says, "That I missed."

Tikba says, "I suppose we will need to head to the campsite."

[General] Elidal thinks, "I'll be at the camp, in the garden."

Chandrellia asks, "And who will be leading us this night?"

Leafiara considers, "Well, Pukk already went to sleep..."

Delyorik says, "I was going for an ankle."

Leafiara grabs a vaalin-swept illthorn leaf pin from inside her leaf-patterned tote.

Leafiara places her illthorn leaf pin flat on her palm and gives it a brisk spin. The illthorn leaf pin twirls around in a blur for a few seconds before coming to rest pointing directly at Izaneth. Izaneth wins!

Leafiara places her illthorn leaf pin flat on her palm and gives it a brisk spin. The illthorn leaf pin twirls around in a blur for a few seconds before coming to rest pointing directly at Boiba. Boiba wins!

Leafiara gazes up into the heavens.

Leafiara places her illthorn leaf pin flat on her palm and gives it a brisk spin. The illthorn leaf pin twirls around in a blur for a few seconds before coming to rest pointing directly at her. Leafiara wins!

Leafiara recites:

"Everyone join me!"

Chandrellia yells, "Everyone join Leafi!"

You are leading Diablic, Markx, Kiyna, Emperia, and Chandrellia.

Leafiara amusedly says, "Okay, moving."

[travel]

Speaking to Leafiara, Chandrellia exclaims, "Careful you'll make me dizzy, not used to traveling this fast!"

Leafiara tentatively asks, "Where exactly is their... garden?"

[Sablo's Pavilion]

Dark brown walls of canvas are pulled taut along several wooden posts, providing a wide center floor for the command pavilion. A large cot occupies one corner, a heavy ermine blanket tossed haphazardly upon it. Dominating the middle of the tent is a huge modwir table littered with dozens of maps, carved wooden miniatures, empty scroll tubes, and a shrunken skull paperweight. You also see a tent flap.

You lift the flap of the tent and step outside into the camp.

Leafiara exclaims, "Ain't in there!"

[travel]

[Imperial Campsite]

A corral wraps around a clearing enclosing horses within its walls. Stable hands escort the animals in and out of their pen, as the smell of hay is present on the breeze. You also see the palm frond-shaped Leafiara disk, the Diablic disk, the Kelfyr disk, the Emperia disk, the Stormyrain disk, a majestic king cheetah, a flame-eyed burnished ember fox, a grizzled porcupine, an antagonistic wasteland spirit that is flying around, a dappled white and grey horse and a length of sturdy wooden walls.

Also here: Whimweaver Leafiara, Town Councilor Kiyna, Conquerer of Reim Diablic, Emperia, Miss Chandrellia, Markx, Tikba, Stormyrain, Kelfyr, Town Councilor Kayse

Stormyrain's group just went west.

Leafiara tentatively says, "...is this the garden? It doesn't look like a garden--"

[travel]

Emperia says, "I did not know they had a garden at all."

[travel]

Leafiara says, "Me neither."

[travel]

Vaemyr says, "What you looking for."

Speaking confusedly to Vaemyr, Leafiara says, "A garden."

Vaemyr says, "South."

[travel]

[General] Chandrellia asks, "Elidal, where might this garden be?"

[General] Stormyrain thinks, "It is northeast from the butcher."

Leafiara says, "Northeast from the butcher... okay."

[Aronia's Garden]

Crepe myrtle trees line the pebbled pathway, their branches arching over the walkway and woven together to create a dark rose blossomed canopy. Lush vegetation and exotic flora from all different climates occupy the garden, the landscape providing a kaleidoscope of colors. A plot of dirt in the back houses rows of vegetables and fruits, most of the plants ready for harvesting with ripe bounty. The scents of loamy soil and earthy notes waft through the breeze, highlighted by rain-washed florals. You also see the Kelfyr disk, the Stormyrain disk, a grizzled porcupine, an antagonistic wasteland spirit that is flying around, the Kialeigh disk and a fluctuant lake spirit that is flying around.

Also here: Whimweaver Leafiara, Tikba, Kelfyr, Town Councilor Kayse, Stormyrain, Preservationist Perigourd, Kialeigh

Kiyna, Diablic, Emperia, Chandrellia and Markx followed.

Leafiara surprisedly says, "Oh."

Perigourd says, "It does seem as if the crops here are growing well."

Kialeigh says, "Maybe he's gonna lead the others here. We WERE staring into each others eyes in silence and solitude for FAR too long."

Kialeigh says, "It was getting awkward."

Sablo's Actions

Elidal says, "Good evening."

Tikba politely says, "Good evening, Elidal."

Elidal says, "Sorry, I know the hour is late."

Speaking to Elidal, Chandrellia says, "For some, not all."

Speaking to Elidal, Vaemyr says, "Evening Elidal."

Kialeigh says, "All good things tend to happen late at night."

Elidal says, "It's summer time, the children of the campsite love to stay up later and play...and at times I feel myself lost in the merriment."

Elidal says, "It was a long winter."

Elidal says, "I appreciate your defense recently of the Outpost, against the Reiver forces."

Elidal says, "I understand you've a new Mayor now as well. I've sent my congratulations."

Elidal asks, "Shall we get to business then?"

Elidal says, "I am aware not many are pleased with Sablo."

Elidal says, "Again."

Goldstr adopts an agreeable expression.

Perigourd scratches at his beard.

Tikba gazes in amusement at Elidal.

Kelfyr folds his arms over his chest.

Perigourd holds up his hand and tilts it side to side in a so-so gesture.

Leafiara agrees, "Yes."

Kiyna says, "A defense would not have been necessary, had Rheshay been released. Or not abducted in the first place."

Goldstr says, "Aye."

Stormyrain offers, "Still?"

Stormyrain folds her arms over her chest.

Speaking to Elidal, Perigourd says, "More in his manner than his action, I think."

Tikba looks thoughtfully at Perigourd.

Leafiara peers quizzically at Perigourd.

Kelfyr glances at Perigourd.

Stormyrain suggests, "In this, I'd say both."

Kelfyr says, "That might be a slim constituency you're representing."

Leafiara states, "Can't speak for anyone else, but entirely his action to me."

Kayse slowly empties her lungs.

Kiyna nods at Stormyrain.

Tikba mildly says, "It is certainly your prerogative to prevent the Landing from carrying out diplomacy, if such is your will."

Elidal says, "We can debate in circles until the second dawn of the Drakes about Sablo's tactics, but the Ember Vale has declared war."

Speaking to Elidal, Goldstr says, "I thinks ye order him to stand doen, less be yer orders."

Elidal asks, "Do you think the Vale now intends diplomacy?"

Tikba calmly says, "That is what a parley is intended to be."

Kiyna says, "When the Ember Vale erred and abducted children, we were invited to their secret dwelling in good faith, treated as guests, the offending party was harshly punished, and the captives were released unconditionally."

Speaking to Elidal, Perigourd says, "They've not made any indication of wanting peace yet."

Elidal points at Perigourd.

Elidal asks, "Or perhaps, now they have?"

Kialeigh says, "Doubtful they ever will or would."

Kelfyr says, "Hard to know when we weren't able to get past a greeting."

Elidal says, "With Rheshay imprisoned."

Tikba amusedly says, "They could hardly have done so, since we arrested their representative when they came to speak with us."

Speaking to Elidal, Vaemyr says, "There might of been a chance before Sablo interupted. That there could of been common ground found against the Krolvin or such. Now? That might all be ruined for you all."

Tikba says, "But I suppose 'we' is not the right word."

Elidal asks, "Is Wehnimer's Landing prepared to pivot their efforts and stance against the krolvin?"

Goldstr says, "Always."

Elidal says, "I only wonder, because one of the accusations the Ember Vale continues to lobby against the town, is the treatment of Tyrrax."

Kayse asks, "The krolvin we made an accord with?"

Tikba says, "Perhaps it would be easier for Sablo to simply attack Tyrrax, rather than asking the Landing for its views."

Goldstr says, "Tyrrax was freed to save innocents."

Kayse says, "Tyrrax was freed to do more than that."

Elidal says, "Or freed to redirect the loss of innocents."

Elidal says, "It wholly depends on which coast you stand upon."

Speaking to Elidal, Chandrellia says, "See it as you wish, it was done for a reason that at the time the Mayor saw fit...."

Elidal says, "I do not intend to get off on the wrong foot. I am open to many paths, and angles, and I am open to Rheshay's release."

Goldstr nods at Chandrellia.

Elidal says, "Furthermore, I am open to peace with the Ember Vale. But I worry, and I have heavy concerns."

Elidal says, "I am not saying I would have done differently with Tyrrax."

Speaking to Elidal, Vaemyr says, "The fact that Tyrrax returned against our wishes already violates that accord. Honestly I'd prefer peace with them too, but if they insist on meddling they only cause us all more harm."

Elidal nods at Chandrellia.

Elidal says, "I am being more observant, than critical."

Elidal says, "I know I am not without my faults, and I will never be perfect."

Speaking to Elidal, Goldstr says, "I tinks if ye let da Vale knows da new Barony will nae rab der lands."

Kayse evenly says, "No one is perfect."

[Realm] Xorus asks, "Where are the people at?"

Speaking to Elidal, Kelfyr says, "All that is asked of us is to continue the work to improve. In ourselves and the faith we put in others."

Leafiara opines, "The question is whether your heavy concerns about trying to reach an agreement do or should outweigh concerns about the continued loss of your soldiers' lives, and others', in a relentless battle until one side has fallen entirely."

Elidal asks, "We let Wehnimer's Landing know that, Goldstr. It's still resisted and slandered as lies. Will the Reivers be more practical than Landing citizens?"

[General] Directed to Xorus, Stormyrain thinks, "In the new garden in the Imperial campsite. Northeast of the butcher there."

Elidal nods at Kelfyr.

Speaking to Elidal, Kiyna says, "As I said before, when the reivers abducted children, their leadership responded quickly. Their minions were punished, and the children were returned. This after many of their own had been struck down."

Speaking to Elidal, Kiyna says, "They didn't ask anything in return. It was their mistake, and they corrected it."

Goldstr exclaims, "Da rouge clan a Haiden may always be a problem!"

Elidal peers quizzically at Kiyna.

Elidal asks, "So what would you have me do councilor?"

Elidal asks, "Release Rheshay and hope they stop targeting farmers, and shepherds, and our river boats and towers?"

Tikba politely says, "It is not quite right to say they wanted nothing in return. Haidan wanted to show himself an honorable and trustworthy leader."

Speaking to Elidal, Vaemyr says, "But Rheshay... the longer she is captured the more Tyeid takes control of the Ember Vale. If your goal is to watch them all turned into spider abominations or facimiles of blood golems like Stone might do, then keep her captured. If you do think that there might still be some innocents in that clan who can be saved regardless or whether you still must fight them or not, then release her."

Elidal says, "We did not abduct Reiver children. We captured a combatant."

Speaking to Elidal, Kiyna says, "With her sword planted in the ground. During a peace-talk."

Kiyna narrows her eyes.

Emperia says, "She was not a combatant at the time."

Elidal asks, "Did she state what her purpose was?"

Elidal asks, "When she tried to meet with you?"

Speaking to Elidal, Perigourd says, "She mentioned the Krolvin."

Leafiara asks, "Is there a 'we' here in that capture? Did you issue the order or did Sablo issue it?"

Tikba mildly says, "We had little time."

Elidal points at Perigourd.

Kelfyr says, "She didn't get much past the greeting."

Tikba says, "I fear she was overtaken by events."

Elidal asks, "What did she say of the krolvin?"

Goldstr says, "Reshay came to Parley, even tho of da Vale, she should nae a been imprisoned."

Speaking to Elidal, Vaemyr says, "We were just beginning that conversation when Sablo interupted."

Elidal says, "Sablo is the Commander. I was aware after the incident."

Leafiara nods at Elidal.

Tikba mildly says, "Ah, it was not your order."

Perigourd says, "Before Sablo took her, she didn't get much into the discussion, sadly, to state the intent of her parlay."

Speaking to Tikba, Kelfyr says, "Twice then."

Elidal says, "But she mentioned the krolvin."

Perigourd says, "Simply to state they had arrived and to try to understand the Landings position regarding them, I believe."

Speaking to Elidal, Kiyna says, "I'm not going to be redirected by your deflections from this."

Speaking to Elidal, Chandrellia asks, "So he in fact did not gain your blessing on the incident at hand. Just decided to act for himself?"

Elidal says, "So it's likely possible, she only sought to strike an accord with your town in dealing with the krolvin. Nothing to do with us."

Kelfyr says, "Some lessons refuse learning, I suppose."

Stormyrain says, "A combatant in parley with the Landing...in the middle of a hopeful diplomatic conversation. Which is wherein lies the issue--we are still a sovereign state--and instead of honoring our agreements, Sablo took advantage of the situation, interrupted it, and violated the accord we had in that moment."

Elidal says, "A field commander does not need approval for every single decision in war."

Speaking lightly to Elidal, Kayse says, "I do not think that is fair to say."

Speaking to Elidal, Stormyrain says, "I am sure you can understand how that looks, and how it feels."

Elidal nods at Chandrellia.

Elidal says, "This isn't Moot Hall."

Elidal chuckles.

Tikba amusedly says, "Indeed it is not."

Speaking to Elidal, Chandrellia says, "It does when it affects those, you, have taken to protect."

Speaking to Elidal, Kelfyr says, "A field commander should have the judgment to carry out orders without prior approval."

Lord Ferwin just arrived.

Ferwin sniffs.

Kelfyr asks, "Does he demonstrate such?"

Ferwin says, "I thought I smelled noise."

Stormyrain asks, "The bigger issue is not the Reiver, it is our allyship no? And the respect necessary for it to flourish?"

Stormyrain gives a sidelong glance at Elidal.

Elidal nods at Kelfur.

Speaking to Ferwin, Vaemyr asks, "Was the fish good?"

Elidal nods at Stormyrain.

Speaking to Elidal, Goldstr says, "Ye Sablo Does need yer orders! Nae his."

Elidal says, "Agreed. I do not intend to squash an enemy at the sacrifice of an ally."

Elidal says, "Which is why we meet tonight. Which is why Aronia let you meet with Rheshay."

Speaking to Elidal, Stormyrain says, "Well then, as I said previously...the issue here is not the reiver or her treatment, it is how we were treated by the Commander. How he continues to be allowed to treat us."

The Rheshay Situation

Elidal says, "I cannot release Rheshay without terms, without some measure of insurance."

Ferwin asks, "Release her?"

Ferwin exclaims, "Boy...you know what the river ones did!"

Tikba politely asks, "Why not?"

Elidal says, "Father, you should be asleep."

Kayse says, "Then let us strike a deal with her."

Speaking to Elidal, Perigourd says, "She may assist in destabilizing Tyeid if released, who seems to be a strong influence to convincing many in the Vale to war with the settlement."

Ferwin says, "I was just on my way to do that, but not in that stone pit with that reiver woman."

Speaking to Elidal, Perigourd says, "But she wishes to save face so as not to feel or appear weak."

Ferwin says, "Not until her body is smacking against the side of the ramparts."

Ferwin slams his palms together several times.

Elidal sighs.

Elidal says, "She may, is not an assurance."

Kayse flatly says, "I can see this will be a productive conversation now."

Elidal nods at Perigourd.

Speaking to Ferwin, Chandrellia asks, "So you sudgest further war, where more inncoents can be lost?"

Vaemyr whispers something to Elidal.

Tikba says, "No assurance given by a prisoner under duress can be relied on."

Tikba says, "Deals are made between equals."

Elidal says, "Haidan may have released the children that were abducted, and butchered those who were to blame, because he knew that is how our people would respond and accept and respect it."

Elidal says, "Unlocking the door on Rheshay does not show the respect you think it might to the Ember Vale."

Ferwin says, "Release her in a few bags boy, that might work."

Ferwin nods.

Speaking to Tikba, Kayse says, "That is not necessarily true."

Elidal says, "Father, please. It is late, and you should retire for the eve."

Perigourd says, "Surrenders are not often made between equals."

Leafiara asks, "When did you become an expert on the culture of the Ember Vale?"

Leafiara furrows her brow.

Speaking to Elidal, Kiyna says, "And releasing her after making a promise of words would? Reivers don't often deal in words."

Speaking to Elidal, Kelfyr asks, "Flaying his own people is what we would respect?"

Speaking to Ferwin, Kialeigh says, "Yer wife needs new shoes."

Elidal says, "I am not an expert on the Vale."

Speaking to Kelfyr, Leafiara agrees, "Also that."

Speaking to Kiyna, Perigourd says, "Most reivers I've known hold strongly to their oaths."

Elidal says, "Well, it has people defending him."

Elidal nods at Kelfyr.

Elidal says, "And his actions."

Elidal points at Kiyna.

Speaking to Elidal, Kelfyr says, "The flaying is not what drew respect."

Ferwin says, "I'll tell you how to release her..."

Kayse dryly says, "Does that mean we're hanging Sablo then? I am unsure why we need to act like Reivers for them to respect us."

Speaking to Ferwin, Chandrellia says, "Please dont."

Speaking to Tikba, Kelfyr says, "Certain company excluded."

Stormyrain bluntly says, "I am less concerned with the actions of the Vale, at this moment, than I am the actions of Sablo which paint us as subservient to the political decisions of the Barony when we are conducting our own political negotiations."

Elidal motions for some nearby soldiers, and cranes his head towards Ferwin. The soldiers arrive, engage Ferwin in some wild stories and talk of riverboats, and he quickly takes the bait, begins talking as they all walk away.

Goldstr says, "She came in peace to Parlay, she should ne be imprisoned! And I be Gainst da Vale."

Elidal says, "I apologize, my father is..."

Kelfyr says, "Gone."

Kialeigh says, "I had a father like that once... one you had to make shut up on multiple occasion before he starts wars or insults kings."

Elidal says, "A shadow of a once good and proud lord."

Stormyrain says, "Age and memories make messes of us all at some point."

Speaking to Elidal, Kiyna says, "The Marshal has the right of it. I'd like you to address her point."

Leafiara says, "In any case, he's not in power and you are, so we can focus."

Kialeigh says, "Kind of a mean thing to say about yer father... regardless."

Speaking to Elidal, Vaemyr says, "Releasing her weakens Tyeid, she's definitely his enemy even if she's the Ember Vale's ally first. I think that might be all you will get, but it is something. More than I think you'll achieve with her captured."

Elidal says, "He lost a lot of business and some good men to reivers near home."

Stormyrain sighs slightly and rubs her temples.

Vaemyr says, "Tyeid admitted that he wants to "break" her, he could of rescued her the other night and didn't."

Vaemyr nods slowly at Elidal.

Elidal says, "Yes, Tyeid not rescuing her shows promise."

Stormyrain stares upward.

Elidal says, "A fracture we've been looking for."

Tikba says, "Rheshay suggested to us that she would like to remove Tyeid."

Speaking to Kayse, Stormyrain asks, "Is it because I am female?"

Speaking to Stormyrain, Kayse says, "Join the club."

Elidal asks, "Do you think she would?"

Tikba gazes in amusement at her surroundings.

Elidal peers quizzically at Tikba.

Speaking to Kayse, Stormyrain asks, "Am I not loud enough?"

Speaking to Stormyrain, Kayse adds, "But yes, probably."

Tikba mildly says, "She would also like to remove Sablo."

Speaking to Stormyrain, Kayse says, "I hear you loud and clear."

Speaking to Stormyrain, Kelfyr says, "There are topics he seems he'd rather not think about. Again."

Speaking to Stormyrain, Leafiara say, "It's because of selective hearing."

Leafiara looks thoughtful for a moment, then shrugs.

Speaking vaguely to Stormyrain, Kayse says, "You are not the only one."

Tikba pleasantly says, "The Marshal is right."

Speaking to Elidal, Vaemyr says, "I'm not sure she could... but it could create two distint factions within them, that makes them weaker."

Elidal says, "I have my concerns. I've received reports that her desire to be rid of Tyeid was not...overly convincing, so long as "the Empire still is here"."

Vaemyr nods at Elidal.

Elidal turns an inquisitive ear toward Stormyrain.

Stormyrain can offer Elidal only a blank expression.

Alliances

Elidal asks, "Again, it is late. What are you trying to get me to answer?"

Elidal peers quizzically at Stormyrain.

Stormyrain's eyes glaze over as she stares, unfocused, into the distance.

Speaking to Stormyrain, Kiyna says, "Clearly, he didn't hear you."

Stormyrain murmurs, "I said it..more than twice."

Kayse appears to be struggling to keep a straight face as she glances at Stormyrain.

Kialeigh says, "Can't trust a man that talks about his father like that.. crazy or note."

Stormyrain says, "I am less concerned with the actions of the Vale, at this moment, than I am the actions of Sablo which paint us as subservient to the political decisions of the Barony when we are conducting our own political negotiations."

Speaking to Stormyrain, Perigourd asks, "Does not the protectorate status of the Landing obligate you to view enemy armies of the empire in equal standing within the Landing?"

Elidal says, "Oh, yes. I heard your statement."

Kelfyr asks, "And so then ignored it?"

Elidal says, "I suppose I just didn't understand you had meant it a question."

Elidal says, "I would not presume so quickly."

Elidal nods at Kelfyr.

Kiyna says, "I see nothing being brought up to address it."

Kayse whispers something to Stormyrain.

Speaking to Elidal, Goldstr says, "True Dey against da Empire, cuz dey tink it be takin der Homes. Ye mus let dose in dougbt knows ye nae invadin."

Elidal says, "It doesn't benefit anyone, even if you're an envoy or not in the future."

Kelfyr says, "Quickly was not the rate at which I presumed such. Whether you release your prisoner or not is your decision."

Speaking to Perigourd, Stormyrain says, "We were in political negotiation, does the Barony not respect our ability to make political decisions? Because if that is the case, we have an entirely different understanding of what protectorate means. Not once did I say I did not consider them to be an enemy, I am not addressing that."

Kelfyr says, "Whether we can deal honorably with our neighbors is a larger issue."

Elidal says, "The Ember Vale has been declared an enemy, by the Barony, and by Wehnimer's Landing."

Elidal nods at Stormyrain.

Tikba says, "Diplomacy is often carried out with enemies."

Tikba says, "It Is how we may make them friends, eventually."

Elidal says, "We do respect your ability to do many things."

Kelfyr says, "In fact, it is almost always so."

Speaking to Tikba, Leafiara says, "More often than not."

Kayse says, "We often negotiate and parley with our enemies. The point is being missed."

Elidal says, "I am not in Sablo's head, I do not know what he heard or saw before he launched the ambush."

Speaking to Elidal, Kelfyr says, "Fine, ask any of the dozen witnesses here."

Tikba evenly says, "Do not fear. We can tell you. We were there."

Elidal says, "I've spoken with him since, he claims it was more of the same, and talk of the krolvin. He did not want to miss an opportunity for information and leverage."

Kayse wryly says, "We have someone who can look inside Sablo's head. Sablo can retrieve him in Deadfall if he wishes to help."

Goldstr exclaims, "Den he was wron!"

Chandrellia says, "So he ignores our respect and just barges in."

Elidal says, "Clearly, from your reactions, it would seem more time should have been merited."

Tikba mildly asks, "Sablo made his views known. What are your views?"

Speaking to Elidal, Stormyrain says, "Sablo should work with myself, Thadston, and the Gryphons. He has much to learn."

Stormyrain stresses, "Much to learn."

Elidal says, "He does have much to learn."

Elidal says, "We all do."

A black spider lurking just inside a fold of Diablic's spidersilk cloak skitters out of view.

Elidal glances at Diablic.

Stormyrain says, "Yes this is a unique experience, and our foundation for the future is being crafted."

Stormyrain folds her arms over her chest.

Stormyrain says, "Where we are in a hundred years --in two--is being informed now."

Elidal says, "I will implore Sablo applies further restraint and caution, but I also will not completely leash him as a commander. We are in war."

Vaemyr says, "I just thought Sablo was trying to be like Thadston. Thadston does at least strike after the negotiations are done, and then ambushes the peaceful meeting and take the prisoner."

Speaking to Elidal, Diablic says, "I guess I could learn a little."

Speaking sarcastically to Elidal, Kiyna says, "Your previous admonishments clearly worked on him, so a strong suggestion to do a bit better will probably do the trick, yes."

Tikba mildly asks, "Can you prevent him from carrying out that war within our diplomatic meetings?"

Elidal says, "The reason I did not focus more on your statement Marshal, is not out of disrespect, but what's done is done. I am interested in forward thought and action."

Elidal says, "Not just circles of the past."

Speaking to Elidal, Stormyrain says, "But not with us, and he needs to trust us, at least a little. And work with us, not against. Had he communicated with myself or the Gryphons, we could have avoided this--mishap, and gotten what the Landing needed, and what the Barony needed."

Stormyrain gazes with interest at Elidal.

Kayse measuredly says, "War does not mean we rush in blindly and slaughter everything that moves."

Elidal says, "I can ensure Sablo does not interfere with diplomatic meetings, yes."

Speaking to Elidal, Stormyrain says, "The fact that you don't see my statement as forward thought and action concerns me."

Stormyrain says, "But as you say."

Emperia says, "Not repeating such actions would be a good place to begin, I feel."

Kelfyr whispers something to Elidal.

(Stormyrain motions with her palms up and takes a step back.)

Stormyrain folds her hands behind her back.

Speaking to Emperia, Chandrellia says, "Expect whats done is done, and fixing this, well, I doubt that will happen now."

Elidal says, "Let's be honest, we do not know the full extent of Rheshay's parley. Let's not pretend she brought a quill and scroll to sign a truce."

Speaking to Elidal, Chandrellia asks, "We'll never know now will we?"

Elidal says, "Some of her first words were in relation to the krolvin."

Elidal says, "Correct Chandrellia."

Chandrellia sighs.

Elidal says, "But we're heavily assuming in one direction that seems to benefit one party more than the other."

Speaking to Elidal, Kiyna says, "The content of her discussion with us is entirely immaterial. I don't care what she was trying to say. The entire point is that we didn't have that chance, and that is Sablo's fault."

Stormyrain says, "Yes, the Landing."

Stormyrain says, "That is the direction that I am concerned with."

Kelfyr says, "If you expect her to act as a reiver does, burying her blade in the dirt and standing alone and unarmed is the equivalent."

Elidal says, "Regardless of the initial event, we've learned and progressed from it all."

Stormyrain raises her eyebrow, the bloodjewel half-ring set within only enhancing her skeptical expression.

Leafiara can offer Elidal only a blank expression.

Chandrellia asks, "Have we?"

Kiyna glances incredulously at Elidal.

Leafiara repeats, "We?"

Elidal says, "We've confirmed a fracture within the Ember Vale. Rheshay has expressed a desire to end Tyeid."

Emperia frowns.

Elidal says, "We? yes. We."

Elidal asks, "Are we going to pick apart words now?"

Speaking to Elidal, Kiyna says, "Your bald-faced attempt at brushing this affair under the rug is deeply concerning."

Leafiara says, "She already said they were going to deal with 'the Eater' before Sablo barged in."

Elidal says, "I understand some feelings were hurt, and the situation was not handled as everyone would have liked. I am sorry for Sablo's execution, but not his result."

Stormyrain says, "I assure you my feelings were not hurt. My trust, is another story. But as you say."

Tikba politely says, "I am glad we have had the opportunity to make our respective views clear."

Speaking to Elidal, Chandrellia says, "So you will give Sablo a proper dressing down, and scold him like a pup in hopes he doesnt repeat this incident..."

Chandrellia says, "Got it."

Speaking to Elidal, Vaemyr says, "I think Rheshay still may think he's needed in your war, but she's fast changing her mind. I believe if she returns and sees first hand what Tyeid is doing to his own people, she will try and stop him."

Elidal says, "Belief, hope, all sounds good."

Speaking to Vaemyr, Perigourd says, "She may, but she also sounded as if she'd continue to war with the settlement after."

Elidal nods at Vaemyr.

Elidal says, "I am the first to agree with those kind of approaches Vaemyr. Usually."

Elidal says, "But I am also tired of burying my people and scribing their names and memories."

Speaking to Elidal, Chandrellia asks, "And we aren't?"

Leafiara pointedly says, "Yes, so are we."

Elidal says, "I did not say you weren't."

Elidal nods at Chandrellia.

Elidal says, "I caution again, do not presume so quickly."

Elidal nods at Chandrellia.

Kayse says, "I do not think belief and hope will work. We need to negotiate something with Rheshay that she needs or wants."

Chandrellia says, "But yet it's we trying to come to understanding with those outside the walls, including you."

Elidal says, "I would not assume you want innocents harmed, despite your history."

Elidal nods at Chandrellia.

Elidal nods at Kayse.

Speaking to Elidal, Chandrellia asks, "My history?"

Elidal says, "Precisely."

Kayse asks, "History?"

Speaking to Elidal, Vaemyr says, "And I said before, I don't think either keeping nor releasing will change that unfortunately. But it is quite possible that part of the reason we cannot find the ember vale, is because of Tyeid, if he is weakened or removed, it could lead to opportunities."

Chandrellia says, "Now lets pick apart some words."

Elidal says, "You're a convicted member of the Brotherhood of Rooks."

Elidal shrugs.

Tikba mildly says, "As you say, it is late."

Speaking to Elidal, Chandrellia exclaims, "And yet, I still defend this campsite!"

Chandrellia says, "And those in it."

Leafiara bluntly says, "So was your emissary, minus the conviction, yet frankly I'd recommend him to replace Sablo at this point."

Elidal says, "Yes, you do."

Speaking to Elidal, Chandrellia says, "Don't ever say I don't defend the innocent."

Elidal says, "Which is why I warned against not presuming my intentions with words."

Elidal nods at Chandrellia.

Elidal says, "Anymore than I would not presume yours."

Speaking to Elidal, Chandrellia says, "I see."

Leafiara says, "I've seen more tactics out of him even though he lacks Sablo's battle prowess. But this is all tangential."

With a wince, Kayse slowly massages her temple.

Dealings

Tikba mildly says, "You would like to make a deal with your prisoner, whom you captured during a parley, but you are afraid that she may not be trustworthy."

Elidal says, "In a roundabout way, yes."

Elidal nods at Tikba.

Elidal says, "Less with trust and more with..."

Elidal says, "Results."

Elidal says, "I worry it changes nothing, or too little, and more of my people die because I release her."

Kayse mentions, "They will continue attacking even harder with her as a prisoner."

Tikba shrugs her shoulders slightly, lifting her wings slightly.

Speaking to Elidal, Chandrellia says, "Your people? not our people, thought we were here together."

Elidal says, "Perhaps it was easy for your arbiters to break the chains on Tyrrax, and perhaps it was wise, or perhaps it was foolish. But this decision is not easy for me. If it was not easy for you, then you should understand."

Speaking to Elidal, Goldstr says, "Mer will die by keepin her."

Tikba asks, "What alternative do you propose? Wait for the Vale to send another emissary, whom Sablo may question more brutally?"

Elidal says, "If it was easy, then do not pretend to understand."

Speaking to Tikba, Chandrellia says, "Or just outright kill."

Tikba bluntly says, "If Sablo knew the way to find the Vale, he would have found it. He captured Reshay because he could not find the way."

Chandrellia says, "He does seem to have an anger issue."

Speaking to Elidal, Kayse asks, "Do you not think more will die if you continue to keep her prisoner?"

Speaking to Elidal, Vaemyr says, "That's certainly possible, I don't think anyone can possibly know everything the future holds. But would you rather be the leader whom inspires and looks toward hope? Or the one whom always assumes the grim and the worst."

Leafiara pragmatically asks, "Maybe we need to circle back: what exactly could constitute these 'assurances' or 'terms' you want before Rheshay could be released?"

Speaking to Kayse, Stormyrain says, "He's already seen who the Vale will send for her, certainly that caused a loss of life that was significant..I myself was a spider's plaything and future dinner for ..well hours."

Speaking to Elidal, Goldstr says, "Mer will die by keepin her."

Stormyrain says, "So was Thadston. So was Cryheart..I'd wager many here, were, in fact."

Elidal says, "People will die because this is war. But perhaps with her imprisonment, there is leverage to lessen or slow or stop the killing."

Kiyna says, "Kayse had a good suggestion earlier. Let us make the deal with Rheshay."

Kelfyr asks, "You think they'll stop because you'll kill her?"

Speaking to Elidal, Perigourd says, "It's a tactical advantage to know where they'll press their forces too if they're determined to keep trying to free her."

Elidal says, "I did not say kill her."

Kayse evenly says, "We keep mentioning deals and leverage but it is being met with resistance."

Elidal says, "I have no intention of killing her."

Elidal says, "From what a few have told me, she is fiery, but seems reasonable."

Elidal says, "More than Haidan, and far more than Tyeid."

Speaking to Kayse, Leafiara agrees, "As it was months ago when he first came here and wanted to hear proposals, only to reject them all before accepting the one *he* proposed."

Leafiara chuckles.

Elidal frowns at Leafiara.

Leafiara shrugs at Elidal.

Speaking to Elidal, Chandrellia asks, "So let me ask, who will you have speak to her to, view, her trustworthyness?"

Tikba wryly says, "I have only ever seen Rheshay attack one of ours, and I fear they deserved it."

Elidal says, "Circles, past grievances, old baggage."

Elidal says, "It is endless."

Leafiara says, "Anyone can certainly change. Including you."

Leafiara nods at Elidal.

Leafiara reiterates, "Again, though... what kind of assurances or terms would you be looking for from Rheshay? We need some kind of starting point or all of this is moot."

Elidal says, "To release Rheshay with no agreement, or deal, or any type of plan to come from it...undermines my commander, diminishes the morale of my people, and quite frankly, it's already damaged my relationship with you all, and to simply gain nothing from that means part of a bridge burned for nothing."

Elidal says, "I am not sure."

Elidal nods at Leafiara.

Speaking to Leafiara, Chandrellia says, "Well, that all depends on who he wishes to speak to her about it, tho my guess is he'll be asking us, to help."

Leafiara rubs her chin thoughtfully.

Elidal says, "That is why I had sought to speak with you all. She has not spoken much to our men, obviously."

Kayse says, "I think the majority of us agree a deal should be made."

Kelfyr asks, "What deal would you hope to hold her to that would come with preconditions?"

Speaking to Elidal, Vaemyr says, "I assume she has not spoken much to your mother then, she's been visiting her to read many nights."

Kelfyr says, "As Tikba said before, you're not in a great position to set terms."

Elidal says, "I am sure my mother has gotten some out of her."

'Elidal says, "That is arguable."

Elidal nods at Kelfur.

Speaking to Elidal, Goldstr exclaims, "Yer abouts to be a Baron of a new land, close to many villages an towns. Let dem knows ye nae be Invading!"

Elidal sighs.

Elidal glances between Kelfur and Kelfyr.

Kelfur shrugs.

Kayse casually says, "No, but Wehnimer's is. And perhaps we can strike a deal....for a deal."

Kayse shrugs her shoulders indifferently, lifting her wings slightly.

Elidal peers quizzically at Kayse.

Tikba wearily says, "Rheshay suggested that Sablo, Tyrrax, and Tyeid are the greatest obstacles to a peace."

Elidal asks, "Goldstr, I will say it again. We've loudly declared we are not invading or taking over Wehnimer's Landing or expanding into it. But many still resist and call us liars. Words on paper will sway the rage of the Reivers?"

Elidal says, "It won't even work on Landing citizens."

Goldstr agrees with Tikba.

Speaking to Tikba, Leafiara ponders, "Decent summation of her stance."

Elidal says, "One is mine, one is theirs, and one is yours."

Elidal nods at Tikba.

Tikba says, "I cannot speak for the Landing's willingness to turn on Tyrrax. That would take a larger discussion."

Speaking to Elidal, Kayse says, "It is an idea. I have nothing specific in mind."

Tikba grins at Elidal.

Tikba says, "We are all in agreement that Tyeid is no friend of any of ours."

Tikba mildly says, "Sablo, I fear, is yours to consider."

Kelfyr says, "One hopes."

Elidal says, "Sablo will not be sent away again. But I can have his efforts refocused on our Darkstone campaign solely."

Speaking to Elidal, Goldstr says, "Is da Barony goin to encomapss da Reiver town"."

Elidal says, "It will remove him from conflict with the reivers."

Speaking to Goldstr, Perigourd says, "No."

Kiyna mutters, "Not yet."

Vaemyr asks, "Tyeid will eventually turn the whole of the ember vale into either blood monsters or spiders, I'm not sure which first... maybe blood monsters than turn into spiders on death?"

Speaking to Goldstr, Perigourd says, "The borders do not cross the river to the northern bank."

Elidal glances at Kiyna.

Elidal asks, "Really Kiyna?"

Kiyna shrugs at Elidal.

Kelfyr says, "I'm sure harrassing the troll kings will keep him occupied."

Elidal says, "Some of you..."

Elidal shakes his head.

Perigourd says, "I think the biggest issue is the fear pushed upon the reivers that the empire meant any harm to begin with."

Tikba gazes in amusement at Elidal.

Speaking to Perigourd, Kelfyr says, "Stemming from a separate failure of diplomacy."

Speaking to Kelfyr, Perigourd says, "Stemming from those seeking to make an opportunity out of what they knew they could convince others of."

Concluding Words

Elidal says, "I think tonight has been a starting point. But I am tired, of circles, of grievances...I need a walk, and I should ensure my father has found his way back to his tent."

Elidal says, "He refuses the outpost for now."

Speaking to Elidal, Vaemyr asks, "Can we at least meet with Rheshay again?"

Tikba delicately says, "You must ensure he is guarded."

Elidal says, "Yes, we'll arrange that this week."

Elidal nods at Tikba.

Vaemyr asks, "With freeing her as something to negotiate with?"

Tikba nods approvingly at Elidal.

Speaking to Perigourd, Kelfyr says, "Silence is a void into which anything might flow."

Kelfyr says, "Conspiracy, rumor, fear."

Elidal says, "I regret that Sablo's execution of his plan...fractured anything we've been working towards together."

Speaking to Kelfur, Perigourd says, "Trust, empathy, understanding."

Kelfyr points at himself.

Elidal says, "A lesson learned, but something I cannot revisit countlessly."

Speaking to Elidal, Kayse says, "A cracked well can still be patched up."

Speaking to Kayse, Leafiara agrees, "Indeed."

Elidal says, "There must be stonemasons on both sides."

Tikba says, "You need not revisit the well over and over, if it is mended properly the first time."

Elidal nods at Kayse.

Tikba says, "But if it is fouled..."

Tikba shrugs her shoulders slightly, lifting her wings slightly.

Elidal nods at Tikba.

Elidal gazes up into the heavens.

Speaking to Elidal, Kayse says, "Water leaks for now, but it can be fixed. Steps torward trust are just a matter of time."

Kayse shrugs her shoulders, lifting her wings slightly.

Elidal asks, "Nice garden though, right?"

Speaking to Elidal, Perigourd says, "The Krolvin are a mutual foe for the Empire and the Reivers, perhaps some trust may be built on that common ground."

Speaking to Elidal, Vaemyr says, "It is."

Tikba says, "I will convey your regrets to the Marshal. She will be glad to hear them."

Elidal says, "I worry the reivers do not consider the krolvin an enemy of the Landing."

Elidal nods at Perigourd.

Elidal says, "That is part of what may need to be fixed."

Tikba says, "They have said they do not."

Elidal nods.

Elidal says, "Exactly."

Leafiara says, "The idea of 'fixing' it might require bringing krolvin fleets bearing down on us--this entire area--with far more power than the Ember Vale has brought to bear."

Elidal asks, "I can divert Sablo. Can you denounce Tyrrax?"

Speaking to Elidal, Goldstr exclaims, "Da reivers Know da Krol be ebeny a ALL!"

Speaking to Elidal, Vaemyr says, "We struck a group of them gathering near the krolvin village a few weeks again for Dikirk's clan, and we certainly helped fight them off when they attacked while the Reivers attacked."

Kelfyr says, "I'd hope our work to stem their incursion after discussions with Dikirk would lead in that direction."

Tikba says, "We made peace with Tyrrax to protect the Landing."

Speaking to Leafiara, Perigourd says, "If the vision of Roelon and rumors of what's happening with the volcano in Icemule hold true, that may happen regardless."

Tikba mildly asks, "Can the Empire do so in the place of that accord?"

Elidal peers quizzically at Perigourd.

Elidal asks, "What rumors?"

Kelfyr says, "The troubles on Glaoveln do rather throw a wrench into things, though."

Kayse says, "Destroying the truce with Tyrrax means the barony assisting with the Krolvin and Grishom Stone."

Leafiara murmurs, "Clearly I picked the wrong time to not pay attention to Icemule."

Perigourd says, "There's a volcano that has been seen from the shores in the north across the Frostmain which is suspected to put into danger a krolvin settlement, or possibly even Glaoveln."

Perigourd nods at Elidal.

Speaking to Elidal, Vaemyr says, "The rumors up north that there could be a volcanic eruption on Glaoveln."

Elidal says, "The krolvin and Grishom Stone are our enemy."

Elidal nods at Kayse.

Speaking to Elidal, Kayse says, "Is that a deal you are willing to make."

Kayse casually says, "Perhaps this is the deal of a deal I was speaking of then."

Kayse smirks.

Elidal says, "It does not even need to be signed."

Elidal nods.

Elidal nods at Perigourd.

Elidal says, "I see."

Kayse says, "Perhaps it does if the well is still broken."

Elidal twists his head slightly, cracking his neck. He looks relieved.

Kelfur says, "If a volcanno threatens Glaoveln, then there may eventually be krolvin ships threatening the shores regardless of what is decided here."

Elidal nods to Kelfur and Kelfyr, just to make sure he gets them both.

Perigourd says, "Councilor Roelon's vision saw many of them perishing in an eruption."

Kelfyr says, "Though some might label those refugees rather than attacking forces."

Perigourd says, "They're debating now whether to send forewarning."

Speaking abruptly to Kelfyr, Leafiara says, "That's a good point, actually."

Speaking to Kelfyr, Kelfur says, "Not much difference when dealing with Krolvin."

Speaking to Elidal, Chandrellia says, "The question then will be, who do you feel would be the biggest threat. how many fronts can you defend against at one time? I know we in the Landing have defended several at the same time and its exhausting."

Speaking mildly to Kelfyr, Tikba says, "It might depend on what they held in their hands when they came."

Vaemyr says, "I'm still unsure of the validaty of those rumors, Glaoveln is a large island. There are multiple Krolvin settlings on it."

Speaking to Kelfyr, Perigourd says, "Yes, they've considered that as well."

Tikba says, "Refugees come with open hands."

Vaemyr says, "If something truly threatens that entire island then we would also feel those affects here."

Elidal sighs.

Speaking to Tikba, Kelfyr says, "Or filled with all they could carry in flight."

Speaking to Vaemyr, Perigourd says, "Hard to say, but the tremors have been far felt of late."

Kiyna says, "...I do not have any problems turning on the krolvin. We made that accord, as it was the best decision we had at the time. I stand by that decision - I was part of making it. But things change."

Speaking to Vaemyr, Leafiara agrees, "And not just because of ships arriving, but the fallout..."

Speaking to Vaemyr, Leafiara clarifies, "The volcanic fallout."

Elidal says, "We will meet again. I feel we've made some progress tonight. We could argue how much, but let's not."

Elidal chuckles.

Elidal says, "Goodnight everyone."

Speaking to Leafiara, Vaemyr says, "The tsunamni I think is what I'd be most worried about."

Speaking to Elidal, Chandrellia says, "By the way."

Tikba amusedly says, "It is always pleasant to see you, Elidal."

Vaemyr says, "Would probably flood the entire landing."

Speaking to Elidal, Kayse wishes, "Fair evening."

Speaking to Elidal, Chandrellia asks, "Have you had a chance for more fishing at the pier?"

Tikba says, "Good night. Take care of your father."

Lord Elidal just went southwest.

Discussion Afterward

Chandrellia says, "Guess not."

Leafiara remarks, "Well, that was something."

Speaking to Chandrellia, Kiyna says, "That was Enisius, anyhow."

Diablic says, "Suppose so."

Goldstr says, "He's now worrin me a bit."

Speaking to Kiyna, Chandrellia says, "Oh, its hard to tell em apart I guess."

Speaking to Goldstr, Vaemyr asks, "What about?"

Goldstr says, "Jess his ways a dealin wid all dis."

Tikba politely says, "He is young."

Kayse observes, "He is hardening a bit. It is probably good for him."

Tikba says, "A barony is a heavy burden. He will need broader shoulders."

Goldstr says, "Peace be nae a forfront in his mind I fear."

Speaking to Tikba, Kelfyr says, "Or more he can trust to help shoulder the load."

Speaking to Goldstr, Perigourd says, "I think if the reivers offered him peace right now, he'd accept it, just as we all would."

Kayse says, "He is realizing peace is not as obtainable as he thinks it should be."

Speaking to Kelfyr, Tikba says, "Ah, I fear a barony can only be carried by one man at a time."

Perigourd says, "This war was pressed upon the settlement, after all."

Speaking to Goldstr, Vaemyr asks, "What has happened that makes you think peace between the Barony of Darkstone and the Ember Vale is possible?"

Speaking to Perigourd, Goldstr says, "Less hopes so me friend."

Speaking to Tikba, Kelfyr says, "Courts tend to be more than fashion shows and dinner parties, though."

Goldstr says, "Actually freein Rhesay may help."

Speaking to Kelfyr, Tikba says, "He has many loyal attendants. Sablo, for example, or Lord Ferwin."

Vaemyr says, "Because if anyone knows of something I've missed, I'd be more than happy to grasp at a thread of hope. But I honestly don't think Rheshay helps either way."

Vaemyr says, "I think freeing Rheshay helps the Landing, as it weakens Tyeid, and Tyeid is by far a bigger theat to us than Haidan and Rheshay are."

Goldstr says, "Take care friends, I mus rest."

Speaking to Vaemyr, Leafiara says, "I don't think it'll sway Haidan and especially not Tyeid, but keep in mind that some of the Ember Vale only recently left Dikirk's clan."

Kiyna says, "My greater concern is our sovereignty being trampled upon by Sablo, and Elidal doesn't seem to care overmuch."

Speaking to Leafiara, Vaemyr says, "Well they were always a different clan, but they only recently broke off relations completely with the other clans of the mountain."

Emperia says, "Yes, it was incredibly disrespectful to the Landing, but not unsurprising to me."

Speaking confusedly to Vaemyr, Kayse asks, "You were just saying earlier you wanted her to be released?"

Tikba mildly says, "We must have our future diplomatic meetings within the walls of the Landing."

Speaking to Kayse, Vaemyr says, "I do."

Speaking suddenly to Tikba, Leafiara approves, "That's an excellent idea."

Speaking to Vaemyr, Perigourd says, "My understanding is that they broke from the Luinne Bheinn clan to form their own separate clan."

Speaking to Kayse, Vaemyr says, "I just said releasing her is good for the Landing."

Speaking to Tikba, Kelfyr says, "To be fair, we didn't exactly set that date."

Speaking distantly to Kelfyr, Leafiara muses, "Right, right, but we can quickly insist next time a similar situation comes up..."

Kayse slowly quotes, "But you just said "Because if anyone knows of something I've missed, I'd be more than happy to grasp at a thread of hope. But I honestly don't think Rheshay helps either way."."

Emperia says, "He also fails to understand what his status and empire represents to the people of this area, and that he cannot effectively bargain on behalf of his descendents."

Speaking to Perigourd, Kiyna asks, "But who broke them away? We had thought it was Haidan, but we've just recently learned that Tyeid is the one who brought Haidan to them. Was the Ember Vale Rheshay's idea?"

Kelfyr says, "Maybe some sort of receiving hut..."

Speaking to Kayse, Vaemyr says, "That was in refernce to peace between the Barony and the Ember Vale, to which I immediately followed up, it does help us."

Speaking to Perigourd, Kiyna says, "I am beginning to think it was in fact Tyeid who created the Ember Vale."

Speaking amusedly to Kelfyr, Tikba says, "In Wehnimer's Landing we have invented buildings."

Speaking to Emperia, Leafiara says, "Very wise words tonight."

Speaking to Tikba, Kelfyr says, "Tell that to Surtey."

Kelfyr says, "Man still works out of a tent."

Speaking to Kiyna, Perigourd says, "As with most, individual reivers have their own reasons. Some left to follow the old ways, seeing the following of Koar as weak. Some believed in the sway of Hagga's bloodline, from what Dikirk said. Others don't like the empire, and I'm sure some just prefer to test themselves at war."

Vaemyr says, "The Krolvin might be a shared enemy they could all agree on. Something else to focus besides each other."

Speaking to Kelfyr, Tikba says, "If we have our diplomatic meetings in huts we will never stop them calling us a rude frontier outpost."

Speaking to Leafiara, Emperia says, "I feel like that was a fairly simple observation..."

Vaemyr says, "But I don't know."

Speaking to Tikba, Kelfyr says, "Perhaps some logs can be cut and put to the purpose."

Kayse says, "Betraying the truce with Tyrrax would require serious discussion."

Speaking philosophically to Emperia, Leafiara says, "Sometimes what's simple can go unstated and comes across as wise."

Speaking to Emperia, Leafiara adds, "When it is stated, that is."

Kayse adds, "And not a decision to be taken lightly."

Speaking to Kayse, Kelfyr says, "With at least one party not present."

Tikba says, "I suppose a town hall would be called for, and perhaps a discussion with the Mayor."

Speaking to Kelfyr, Kayse asks, "Pookia?"

Leafiara amusedly says, "Tyrrax."

Kelfyr says, "The newly-elected mayor."

Leafiara suddenly says, "Oh."

Kayse says, "That's three then."

Speaking to Kayse, Vaemyr says, "Nothing Rheshay has said makes be believe that if released, even if Tyeid dies, that she won't still support war with the barony. But it's still the better option I think than the alternative."

Speaking to Vaemyr, Kayse says, "We don't know that for sure."

Speaking to Vaemyr, Perigourd says, "Losing Tyeid will weaken them magically."

Leafiara says, "...I for one would actually want Tyrrax there so he wouldn't go nuts about betrayal again. Just break the truce openly."

Kiyna says, "If Elidal wants us to turn away from our agreement with Tyrrax, then he should offer us one himself. In writing. And in the meantime, yes, I will oppose the krolvin presence here - that was not part of our deal."

Kelfyr says, "He may have more on his plate now anyway, with the volcano."

Speaking to Leafiara, Vaemyr says, "He broke the truce first, when he sent his forces against our gates and walls."

Leafiara considers, "Actually, wait, I guess Tyrrax would rather have something in writing anyway since he trusts written words more."

Kelfyr says, "It might even impact his ability to stand up his end of the agreement, if he's now more beholden to the survival of his people."

Kelfyr says, "If the visions are true."

Kelfyr says, "Strange days."

Speaking to Vaemyr, Leafiara says, "I don't think he intended to send them against us, or else the portals would have been in our gates. He's well familiar with locations to drop them off. It's more like stray krolvin got overzealous."

Kayse curiously says, "If we come at it as he broke the truce first, we could shift the blame to him. Thus we wouldn't actually be breaking it."

Speaking to Leafiara, Vaemyr says, "And if he continues you think more strays won't kill our people? If he doesn't fall back, there's not really much to talk about."

Tikba thoughtfully says, "We made our alliance with Tyrrax in part by feigning his defeat of Thadston."

Speaking to Leafiara, Chandrellia says, "On the other hand, it could be like it with Amos's mercenarys.... the main focus is the reivers, if a few landing citizens get in teh way, oh well."

Vaemyr says, "He never came back to us for our answer about the Reivers on the beach, he launched an attack first."

Tikba says, "Perhaps we could feign our betrayal of Tyrrax."

Speaking to Perigourd, Kiyna asks, "You have thoughts on this, I take it?"

Speaking to Kiyna, Perigourd says, "I've never approved of the manner in which Tyrrax was dealt with, that much is already known."

Speaking to Vaemyr, Leafiara says, "If the choice is between strays getting overzealous and an entire fleet with demon summoning stormcrows at its disposal, I know which I'd prefer."

Speaking to Tikba, Kayse says, "That gets complex when the krolvin want to fight the reivers...."

Speaking to Tikba, Chandrellia says, "That is atricky road to travel, but he may be in for that game."

Perigourd says, "I do think that he was asked not to intervene by in regards to the reivers, that's about the best argument you're going to have in relation to him having broken the truce."

Speaking curiously to Tikba, Leafiara says, "I like that idea, though I'm not sure of the feasibility."

Perigourd says, "Which I don't think is a very strong argument."

Speaking to Perigourd, Kayse says, "They came back here before it was time to get the Star."

Kayse says, "They violated the truce."

Speaking to Kayse, Vaemyr says, "Yes exactly."

Speaking to Kayse, Perigourd asks, "Is that what the full agreement was?"

Chandrellia says, "That as well is a good point."

Speaking to Kayse, Perigourd says, "Perhaps he sees this as part of that fulfillment."

Kayse says, "And that they would not bring Wehnimer's into it when they did."

Leafiara asks, "What's the end goal of convincing Tyrrax he broke the truce?"

Kayse says, "An alliance with Rheshay."

Emperia says, "I believe it is time for me to return to the Landing and rest. Farewell, everyone."

With one leg awkwardly placed behind the other, Emperia attempts to curtsy, only to stumble and almost fall.

Kayse says, "Rheshay."

Kiyna says, "Tell Tyrrax to go fight the volcano."

Speaking gently to Emperia, Leafiara says, "You might be a bit tired indeed."

Speaking to Kiyna, Perigourd says, "Not a bad idea."

Emperia says, "...I must me more exhausted then I thought..."

Speaking gently to Emperia, Leafiara wishes, "Rest well."

Perigourd says, "Though if he takes word to his people, and avoids calamity for them, his influence will be doubled."

Leafiara ponders, "Fighting the volcano, I like it."

Tikba says, "I must rest as well."

Kayse casually says, "It is too bad magic can not influence the volatility of that volcano."

Speaking to Tikba, Kayse wishes, "Kala sutara, amisar."

Tikba wryly says, "I hope to see you all tomorrow at Paupers."

Speaking to Kayse, Perigourd says, "They can be, or have been at least in the past."

Chandrellia says, "The hour is most late, and I am in need of spells I fear for teh days ahead. Good night everyone, and rest well when you do."

Speaking warmly to Kayse, Tikba says, "Kala sutara, amisar."

Kayse wishes, "Fair evening all."

Leafiara says, "Wait a minute... I think we're forgetting the possible influence of Quinshon in all of this, regarding dealings with Tyrrax."

Kelfyr says, "I'll take my leave as well. Good night, all."

Kayse peers quizzically at Leafiara.

Speaking to Leafiara, Vaemyr says, "I'm not forgetting that, that's part of the reason I'm not sure I can trust Tyrrax anymore in all of this."

Speaking to Kayse, Leafiara says, "Iliyaas said a 'shadow' was following him, and perked up when I said her description of it fit Quinshon..."

Kayse says, "Ah."

Leafiara says, "She said something like a shadowy maw of teeth."

Kiyna says, "I despise slavers more than just about anything else... but even I don't relish the idea of krolvin civilians and the slaves they keep being disintegrated by ash hot enough to melt stone. The loss of an entire nation is a tragedy no matter whose it is..."

Leafiara says, "Like when Rodnay attacked Quinshon back when.."

Vaemyr says, "I think it's very possible."

Kayse thoughtfully says, "Hmmm."

Kayse turns around.

Town Councilor Kayse just went southwest.

Leafiara says, "She probably has the right of it. It's a bit late to ponder all of this."

Vaemyr says, "I should probably sleep too I guess."

Kiyna admits, "It's not a bad garden."
