A smaller relative of the basilisk, the plumed cockatrice has a snake-like body, plumes of feathers spearing up from its head, dapple grey wings, and short, stout legs. Its cold, penetrating gaze is not nearly as deadly as that of its larger cousin but the plumed cockatrice should not be treated lightly. Its vicious use of its sharp beak and raking claws make it a fierce opponent even in the best of situations.

Other information

The plumed cockatrice, like its cockatrice cousins, has a stare maneuver that can render its target immobile, from short roundtimes, to leaving the target prone and in offensive stance, to immobilizing its target.

There are several stages of the stare:

A plumed cockatrice focuses its eyes on you!
You feel a brief, sharp tug at your mind, but you are able to summon your will and fend off the attack!
Roundtime: 3 sec.
A plumed cockatrice focuses its eyes on you!
Feelings of insecurity flood your mind, and you feel yourself slowing down in a depressed state.
Roundtime: 5 sec.
You no longer feel the dulling effect of depression.
A plumed cockatrice focuses its eyes on you!

A wash of dread and hopelessness floods your senses as you realize that you have no chance to survive against such an awesome foe! The overwhelming despair and knowledge of your imminent death are too much to handle, and you find yourself mentally retreating from reality. Everything surrounding you fades to black.
