The striped warcats might be an extension of an older apparent allusion to the witches' cauldron scene in Macbeth. This is the first line of the scene: "Thrice the brinded cat hath mew'd." Brinded means striped. The tree trunk in this cave is also etched with a hemlock leaf, which is also part of the cauldron spell. This is likely intentional because the cave was given death fire lighting and stalagmites like The Broken Lands. These associated areas make heavy use of Celtic fairy lore, as well as words from Gaelic. This is also the case for "Dubh Brugh" and "Luinne Bheinn" which are Irish for "black dwelling" and "fierce mountain". The obsidian of the cave might refer to puma nagual mythology regarding mirrors and the Aztec god Tezcatlipoca.

The striped warcat is a large ornery cat. It is fairly large, standing roughly a head over a halfling. Wide, tapering grey stripes run down the side of its black fur. Its amber eyes gleam hypnotically as it stares back in your direction.

Other information

Warcats are related to tigers, but somewhat bigger. They were trained and used by the Krolvin for hunting and war purposes. After the Krolvin War, some warcats were left behind. The core of these beasts established themselves in some caves northeast of Wehnimer's Landing and in the dark tunnels of Dubh Brugh near Luinne Bheinn. These dark environs suited the nocturnal felines well.

Behind the Scenes
