Animalistic Spirit Shield iteminfo

User_talk:GS4ALASTIR: Hi, Alastir. Thank you very much for contributing so many different things to the various item script pages! Just as a head's up, I rolled back one of your changes made a while ago to the Animalistic Spirit Shield page, where you had accidentally removed the iteminfo section. I have added back in the iteminfo section so that it properly displays; it's actually an important template to keep in place for scripted items as it helps populate other categories on the wiki, making it easier to cross-reference related things. Thanks for understanding! HOST-GSKEBECHET (talk) 09:55, 21 June 2022 (CDT)

Category: Marked for Deletion

User talk:WINTERDAWN: Thank you for all of the contributions you've made toward archiving all of the Elanthian Journals! Just as a reminder, please use [[Category:Marked for Deletion]] on a page when you would like it deleted. I went ahead and deleted the Journal pages you had cleared and replaced with the text, "Things to be deleted by Simu Admin." because your intent appeared to be very clear, however using the Category instead would make it easier for any mods to see those pages as part of weekly patrols for page deletion requests. HOST-GSKEBECHET (talk) 10:39, 7 July 2022 (CDT)

Shoot. I was doing {{category... sorry about that! Also, sorry about the extra set of deletes that I created. I hope it wasn't too time consuming :| WINTERDAWN (talk) 13:01, 7 July 2022 (CDT)
That's okay! It wasn't too time consuming. I just wanted to remind you about it for the future. Thank you again for all of your contributions!HOST-GSKEBECHET (talk) 09:37, 8 July 2022 (CDT)

Requesting Clarification

User_talk:FIREPHOENIX: Thank you for all of your contributions to preserving the-ever expanding game lore! I have a question regarding your recent edit to Ithzir_language_(essay). Do you have the original author's permission to upload "Part 5" to the essay? I did not see you noting that anywhere on the essay's talk page (Talk:Ithzir_language_(essay)). When uploading someone else's work to the wiki on their behalf, it is important to note that on an individual creative work's talk page so that we have a clear understanding that permission was given by them. HOST-GSKEBECHET (talk) 10:34, 14 July 2022 (CDT)

I can confirm with Dergoaten shortly since he's an active player, unsure how to post approval, but it's been confirmed and directed towards https://gswiki.play.net/Ithzir_Genesis for the most current details FIREPHOENIX (talk) 23:26, 15 July 2022 (CDT)

Thank you very much! HOST-GSKEBECHET (talk) 08:36, 20 July 2022 (CDT)

Moving Saved Posts

User_talk:FIREPHOENIX: I just wanted to give you a head's up that I am moving and consolidating some saved posts on the wiki that don't meet the current Style Guide standards for saved posts. Most of them are being moved to the "/saved posts" subpage of relevant questlines, and I am updating any broken links made as a result of these moves. I didn't want to worry you with the sudden rearranging of data and related page deletion since they include a few of the saved posts that you have archived with your ongoing efforts to preserve game history. HOST-GSKEBECHET (talk) 11:40, 21 July 2022 (CDT)

Wood Rarity Template Links

User talk:WINTERDAWN: Hi, WINTERDAWN. I just wanted to give you a head's up on why I reverted your changes to Template:Wood_Rarity_and_Use to remove the redlined links added. The additional links were all to existing real world trees that are not unique to Elanthia. While it is certainly fine for someone to eventually make pages for individual trees and add those links back in to the template, none of the trees with redlined links had anything unique to them in an Elanthian setting apart from their real world equivalents. Hopefully that helps clarify! HOST-GSKEBECHET (talk) 10:43, 26 July 2022 (CDT)

Merchant NPC Pages

User_talk:ECHEAUX: Hi, ECHEAUX. Thank you for your many contributions to the wiki! Getting a lot of the information related to the ongoing Ebon Gate festival out there while it is still running is a big help to other players. Just as a head's up, I have reverted some of the updates you made to various merchant NPC pages. These are largely restricted to where historical information was removed, such as festival venues or various towns where the merchants have worked. I wanted to drop you a note to explain why those changes were reverted so that you weren't surprised by them.

I also have a question regarding the recent updates that you made to Template:Merchants and related updates to various merchant NPC pages. Looking at the template, it seems like the "venue" section is now much more restricted than before, limited to only a very small list of festivals instead of being more free form as it was in the past. Is that intended or just an oversight? We have so many different festival venues that limiting which ones the template could be used for seems counterproductive, especially if it means that historical information is not preserved. It also looks like you have added a "town" as a new section, which can only have one entry. Is "town" intended to be the merchant's home town? Or is it intended to be the town they most often work in among the various towns they frequent? Thank you for any insight you can offer. HOST-GSKEBECHET (talk) 10:56, 26 October 2022 (CDT)

Works in Progress

User_talk:ECHEAUX: Hi there, ECHEAUX. I am slowly working through patrols of item script page updates, which I know you focused heavily on late last year. It looks like on several of them, mostly ones from October and November, you included the work-in-progress template to indicate you are still working on the pages, however many of them do not appear to have any recent updates in the past month+. While I don't believe these are all of them, they include AYRWT?, Flask belt, Ritualistic tool, and a few others that look like they were from last year's Ebon Gate festival. Are you still actively working on some of these pages? If not, I'll remove the WIP template as I do the patrols to let other users know they are open for editing again. Thanks again for everything you do to help add to the wiki! HOST-GSKEBECHET (talk) 08:29, 10 January 2023 (CST)

Page Moves

User talk:ECHEAUX: Hi, ECHEAUX. I noticed that when you set up the item script page for the Grooming locket, you did so by moving one of your test/sandbox pages with a substantial edit history to the current page. In doing so, that also had the the effect of moving the entire page history for your test page, which included a large number of edits stemming from when you were testing out formatting for other item scripts unrelated to the Grooming locket. While the wiki team is very glad that you're using your test/sandbox pages to try out new things, the best practice in this instance would be to just cut and paste the source code from your test page into a newly created item page instead of moving it from your sandbox if there are unrelated edits in the test page's history. I know that you're very well versed in wiki use at this point, but if you'd like, I can help with that process for the Grooming locket page. HOST-GSKEBECHET (talk) 09:49, 7 February 2023 (CST)

Talk Pages vs Articles

User talk:WINTERDAWN: Hi, WINTERDAWN. I am reaching out to you because I am reverting back the edits on Northern Sentinel's Decree on the Imperial Protection of Wehnimer's Landing to include the full text of the letter instead of omitting portions of it. Could you help me understand why you removed portions of the letter? I understand that you also put the log of the letter being read aloud in game on the page's Talk page. However, the purpose of a Talk page is to provide notes about the main article, such as indicating permission to share something on behalf of another person, sharing incomplete research information, or asking a question/seeking clarification about the text of an article. Talk pages are not intended to be used as supplementary articles, nor should articles omit relevant information for the sake of sharing it on a Talk page. HOST-GSKEBECHET (talk) 09:42, 8 February 2023 (CST)

So there are two separate authors here: myself and WBURKE.
When I first came across the letter as relayed by Cordarius, in user LEAFIARA's log, I thought, "this is very useful information that should probably be more accessible than in the middle of a log." However, it was late, and I was not necessarily wanting to embark on a lengthy project at the time, and so I literally just copy/pasted it into a separate wiki page (the awkwardly named one I marked for deletion).
Soon after this, user WBURKE created a page to document the information relayed by that letter. The desire of my page was "here's the log so it's easier to find, maybe it'll be made nicer one day." The desire of their page was to focus on the specific points of interest in that letter. My focus was "here's the letter in full" while their focus was "here's the bullet points with regards to the Empire and Wehnimer's Landing." What they created is what I wanted the log to eventually turn into.
I still felt it useful to have the log around, though, and so dumped it on the discussion page as I don't know where else to put it.
As an aside, based on how this wiki is used, both in the past and currently, I feel that the discussion page is a fine spot for these types of things. On other wikis yes, you can have very lengthy conversations about the topics you listed, but that just doesn't really happen here on this one.
Based on those guidelines we would need to move this content: Talk:Sanctify (330) and Talk:Introduction to the Confluence#The Mentor Event Itself. I feel that these bits, that are relevant to their pages, would detract from the pages themselves if added. The Sanctify content would just muddy the page and the Confluence content has no relevance on the guide itself. The Sanctify content would be easy enough to break out into it's own guide I guess, and I guess the Confluence content could just be added to my user page or something. /shrug
Anyways, just my thoughts. At the end of the day you're the boss on this stuff so I acquiesce to what you feel is best :)
WINTERDAWN (talk) 16:58, 8 February 2023 (CST)
Hi, WINTERDAWN. I am not ignoring your query; I am waiting on a response from the larger wiki team about how to approach this specific scenario. Generally speaking, any article's Talk page is not an appropriate venue for archiving important information. If the information is completed research, elaboration on topics contained within an article, or relevant log excerpts, that information should be on a main wiki article, not on a Talk page. Depending on what that information consists of, it could either be on the primary article itself or on a different article that is explicitly created to delve into a more complex concept.
In the case of Talk:Sanctify (330), the information presented on it would be best in a main article and not on a Talk page; looking at the content, it does seem appropriate for a 330 guide article, as you pointed out (see Help:Style#User pages). In the case of Talk:Introduction to the Confluence, this appears to be a log excerpt and would be appropriate for a page that is set up as an event log - in the format of "YYYY-MM-DD - Log Title (log)" (as per Help:Style/Formatting special articles#Logs). However, as the main page itself appears to be set up as a guide, which appears to be drawn from the log itself (or vice versa), it should adhere to the standards of creating a guide. My general recommendation would be to preserve an entire log, including the introduction that is currently on the Talk page as well as any followup questions to the presentation, as a log article and then maintain the existing article as a guide with the information presented as is. That said, because the log excerpt that was retained on the Talk page does not appear to contain information vital to the article itself or further elaboration on the information presented in it, I also don't see an issue with keeping it as is for this specific case.
In the case of Northern Sentinel's Decree on the Imperial Protection of Wehnimer's Landing, which led to this conversation, given the nature of this specific article as well as the duplicate information between it and the article Protectorate, I am waiting on confirmation on how best to handle it before taking any further action. Unless another mod or GM weighs in before me, it will likely not be until next week that I can relay the final determination. I appreciate your patience and understanding with this. While the GS wiki does not get anywhere near as much traffic or use as Wikipedia, that does not mean that the GS wiki does not have its standards for how pages, including Talk pages, should be used. Those standards are also continually evolving as more content is added, and what may have been considered fine two years ago may have have updated standards today. HOST-GSKEBECHET (talk) 09:40, 9 February 2023 (CST)
Hello again, WINTERDAWN. After consulting with the wiki team, I have adjusted Northern Sentinel's Decree on the Imperial Protection of Wehnimer's Landing to show the previous version of the text instead of the log. I have transcluded the identically presented information from Protectorate onto Northern Sentinel's Decree on the Imperial Protection of Wehnimer's Landing. I have updated text on the page to link to the log excerpt on Protectorate instead of referencing the article's talk page. I have also updated the article's Talk page to remove the previously saved log excerpt, to clarify what its purpose is, and to direct anyone viewing it to Protectorate#5123, which is where the complete log excerpt is located. Again, to reiterate, the purpose of Talk pages is to facilitate discussion about an article, such as questions about an article, incomplete research, or citing when permission was granted to post on behalf of another person. They are not intended to serve as articles themselves. Logs and completed research should be either incorporated into the main article or in a supplementary article. Hopefully this helps clear up any confusion for you. Thank you again for your patience as I worked to resolve this. HOST-GSKEBECHET (talk) 09:13, 14 February 2023 (CST)
Alright, thank you for this information and checking into things :) I'll work on the two pages I mentioned (and any others I come across later) as soon as I can. WINTERDAWN (talk) 05:18, 15 February 2023 (CST)

Third Party Software

User talk:GS4ALASTIR: Hi, GS4ALASTIR. I have followed up with the wiki team on a few recent edits that you made related to third-party software documentation on the wiki. Specifically, I am referring to the subpages you created associated with both Script Bigshot documentation and the main Script Eloot article. The wiki policy for documenting Lich software is viewable on Help:Style#Lich_information. You will need to get staff approval before creating any new Lich script pages or subpages by contacting the GSWiki email address. (It is perfectly fine to continue to make edits to existing Lich script pages or subpages.) I will be taking the following steps:

Some of the information that you put onto the Script Bigshot subpages appears to be updated from how it was originally presented on the main article. I want to make sure that you have the opportunity to save or move that back on to the main approved script article before the subpages are permanently deleted. I also want to make sure that you have the same opportunity to save the information you wrote for the Script Eloot page. If you have any questions, please let me or another mod know, either via talk page or by asking on the official Discord server. Thanks for understanding. Character Vignettes

User talk:LORDROELET: Hi there, LORDROELET. I wanted to let you know why I moved your Plea to the Wsalamir vignette back to where you had originally placed it on the wiki. The storyline guidelines were recently updated to address how character vignettes should be posted to the wiki, largely because most character vignettes were shared in response to storylines. Moving forward, their articles should be set up in the format of:

Character name (instance)/Vignette name

In addition, they should not use the creative-work template as character vignettes are considered a form of "off screen roleplay" instead of a creative work like a poem or short story being told by a character. Thank you for sharing your character's vignettes on the wiki. If you have any questions, the best place to ask is on the Official GS Wiki discussion thread in the Discord forum's Help section. Third Party Software and Scripts

User talk:RINUALDO: Hi there, RINUALDO. I have followed up with the wiki team on some new articles you made associated with Lich script documentation. Specifically, I am referring to Script foreach and Script invdb, which were made last week, plus Script Ebounty, which was made late last year. The wiki policy for documenting Lich software is viewable on Help:Style#Lich_information. I have confirmed with the wiki team that permission was not given in advance of these articles being created. You will need to get staff approval before creating any new Lich script articles or subarticles by contacting the GSWiki email address. (It is perfectly fine to continue to make edits to existing Lich script articles or subarticles.) I am taking the following steps:

I understand that you are active in helping maintain the existing approved third party software articles so that they are accurate and easy to understand for the community. I want to make sure that you have the opportunity to save the information you wrote for the above three articles should they be approved for creation again at a later date. If you have any questions, please let me or another mod know, either via talk page or by asking on the official Discord server. Thank you for understanding. HOST-GSKEBECHET (talk) 10:03, 18 April 2023 (CDT)

Putting stuff on talk pages with no way for a user to know that something exists unless they go to the wiki daily is a terrible, terrible way to communicate about deleting something with a timer.
Can you please clarify "I have confirmed with the wiki team that permission was not given in advance of these articles being created" who you clarified this with?
Hello again, RINUALDO. I am following up on your question from yesterday about the three articles you created for lich scripts. I did alert the wiki team of your message to me when you added it, and I am aware that staff were able to talk with you on Discord afterward and confirm that you did indeed have prior authorization for the invdb and foreach script articles.
I would like to apologize on behalf of the wiki team for incorrectly flagging the Script foreach and Script invdb articles as not authorized. I am reverting my edits to both of those articles where I had added the delete template, and I am also putting a note on their respective Discussion tabs so that there is no confusion in the future. Unfortunately, the Script Ebounty article was not approved in advance of it being created, so I do need to delete it when the seven day window has concluded. Thank you for your patience and understanding. HOST-GSKEBECHET (talk) 09:37, 20 April 2023 (CDT)

The ebounty page was intended in the prior approval that was released. It was referenced in the email request, which I could have been more specific. As this has gone to Feedback, please do not delete anything until the issue is resolved.

Hi, RINUALDO. I have relayed your message to me on my talk page to the wiki team . Also, just as an FYI if it is helpful, if you want to add on your user name and a timestamp of an edit to the end of the message, it is possible to do so with ~~~~. HOST-GSKEBECHET (talk) 08:46, 25 April 2023 (CDT)
Hi again, RINUALDO. I wanted to update you on the three articles I previously reached out to you about. I have removed the delete template and renamed the article for Lich:Script Ebounty to conform with the updated guidelines for Lich scripts on the wiki. I have also moved both Lich:Script invdb and Lich:Script foreach for the same reason. All three articles will need the forthcoming lich header template added to them once the template has been finalized. Thank you for your patience and understanding as the wiki guidelines continue to evolve. I appreciate your continued efforts to add documentation to the wiki to help other players better enjoy the game. HOST-GSKEBECHET (talk) 10:23, 23 May 2023 (CDT)

Thaumaturge Tome Script

User talk:ALLENM20: Hello, ALLENM20. I am following up with you on behalf of the wiki team. I know that MOD-GSMOTTE already reached out to you about the Lich:Thaumaturge Tome Script article that you previously wrote. In light of the updates to the wiki standards for lich script pages, the script article is now permitted on the wiki. I have moved the article so that its title properly conforms with these new standards (which adds Lich: at the start of the article title). The article will need to be updated with the forthcoming lich script template as soon as it is released. Thank you for your patience and understanding. HOST-GSKEBECHET (talk) 08:18, 30 May 2023 (CDT)

Character Vignettes

User talk:HALEM20: Hi again, HALEM20. Thank you for doing so many updates to help record events in the recent and ongoing Platinum storylines. I noticed that you recently added two character vignettes related to the What Lurks in the Dark storyline that do not appear to be linked to your account based on prior edits to their respective character pages. If you are uploading vignettes on behalf of another player, you will need to very clearly state that on the Discussion tab for each page. The two vignettes are Jaired (platinum)/Loose Ends and Oliviero (platinum)/Interruption. To add that information, you will just need to click on the Discussion tab at the top of each article and note that you have permission to upload them. I recommend adding ~~~~ to the end of it to make sure that you have a clear account/date/timestamp applied afterward. Thank you for understanding! HOST-GSKEBECHET (talk) 09:17, 19 June 2023 (CDT)

Hello, HALEM20. I previously reached out to you about two character vignettes related to the What Lurks in the Dark storyline that you added to the wiki for characters that did not appear to be yours, based on prior edits to their respective character pages. I see that Oliviero's player did confirm that permission was given to upload Oliviero (platinum)/Interruption to the wiki, however there is still no indication that Jaired's player gave permission to upload Jaired (platinum)/Loose Ends. GSwiki has recently updated its copyright policy with regard to posting works created by another person. I have flagged the "Interruption" vignette for not being in compliance with the updated Gswiki:Policy for Copyrights on works created by someone other than the uploader. A statement that the vignette was uploaded with permission by the author must be added to the vignette's Discussion tab. If that is not added within 7 days, it will be deleted from the wiki. If you have any questions about this process or need more information about the updated policy for copyrights on articles, please reach out to the wiki team on the Gemstone forum's wiki thread. Thank you for your understanding. HOST-GSKEBECHET (talk) 08:34, 13 July 2023 (CDT)

Blanked Article

User talk:PAELA: Hi there, PAELA. I noticed that you created two articles for your vignette, "Disturbing News", and then went back and deleted all of the text on the duplicate article. The one that still has text is Agathilea (prime)/Disturbing News while the one that has had all text removed is Agathilea (prime)/Disturbing News/Disturbing News. Did you remove all the text because you wanted the second article to be deleted? Putting {{delete}} on an article is the best way to let a wiki Mod know that the page was created in error and should be deleted from the wiki instead of just removing all of the text on it. If that is what you would like to be done, please add the delete template to the article so another mod or I can remove it for you. HOST-GSKEBECHET (talk) 09:14, 9 August 2023 (CDT)

Recent Edits

User talk:LUXELLE: Hi there, LUXELLE. I'd like to thank you for your many contributions to the wiki, especially for your guides to help other players better enjoy the various festivals and events in game. I know that you frequently collaborate with other players to write some of your guides. Another user recently made some edits to one of your guides, Duskruin primer, that I was not sure were intended by you or your team. They do not appear to be malicious in nature, however I did want to reach out to you about if they were intended to be part of the article. The edits are a new section at the end of the article, All the big credit givings. If these edits were not intended by you or your team, either you can delete them or you can let me know and another mod or I would be happy to delete them for you. Images and Article Edits at Risk for Deletion

User talk:CELLORA: Hi there, CELLORA. In reviewing some recent updates to the wiki, I saw that you have made quite a few edits to Sorlu (prime), which appears to be a character page for someone else's character. There is no indication anywhere that Sorlu's player gave you permission to create or edit a character page on their behalf. Gswiki:Policy prohibits users from editing character pages unless the character is theirs or they have been given permission by that character's player to make those edits. If you do have permission to edit Sorlu's character page, you will need to indicate this by clearly stating it on its Discussion/Talk tab, Talk:Sorlu (prime), that you have been given permission to do so by his player. Alternatively, Sorlu's player can put that information on the discussion page. When adding that information, please make sure to add ~~~~ at the end of your comments, which will automatically add a "signature" with your user name, plus the date and time of when your edit was made.

In addition, there are a couple of images that I have flagged, all of which appear related to the same character article. I think I understand what is going on with the images but would appreciate some clarification from you if my understanding is correct.

Can you confirm who created the image? It appears that Sorlu's player created it, you erroneously placed your name on "Nalfein Crest" then removed it, then reuploaded the image crediting Sorlu. Is that accurate? If so, I will delete the first duplicate file as it is not used anywhere.

Can you confirm who created the image? It appears that this is a similar situation as the above two images, where you first listed yourself as the creator then re-uploaded the image listing Sorlu as the creator. If that is the case, I will delete the first duplicate file as it is not used anywhere.

In all cases, If that information is not added within 7 days, your edits to the character page and the impacted images will be deleted from the wiki. Thank you very much for clearly taking steps to fully credit images, not just who created them but also if permission was granted to upload them. That is a big help for moderators like me as we review edits to the wiki. If you have any questions about this process or need more information about the updated policy for editing character pages, please reach out to the wiki team on the Gemstone forum's wiki thread. Thank you for understanding. HOST-GSKEBECHET (talk) 11:02, 29 August 2023 (CDT)

Hello! Yes, I made a mistake on the images and couldn't figure out how to fix it without uploading new ones. If you could please delete the first ones, that would be great! He created them. I'm still figuring out the flagging and all of that for the wiki. I will add a note on the page that he gave me permission to create the page as well. CELLORA (talk) 12:59, 29 August 2023 (CDT)

Article/Edits at Risk for Deletion

Images and Article Edits at Risk for Deletion

User talk:CHADDEAUX: Hello, CHADDEAUX. I am reaching out to you about two things.

First, a few years ago you created and edited a character page article, Dirvy (prime), which has since then been edited by another user. There is no indication anywhere that Dirvy's player gave you permission to create or edit a character page on their behalf. Gswiki:Policy prohibits users from creating or editing character pages unless the character is theirs or they have been given permission by that character's player to make those edits. If you do have permission to edit Dirvy's character page, you will need to indicate this by clearly stating it on its Discussion/Talk tab, Talk:Dirvy (prime), that you have been given permission to do so by her player. Alternatively, Dirvy's player can put that information on the discussion page. When adding that information, please make sure to add ~~~~ at the end of your comments, which will automatically add a "signature" with your user name, plus the date and time of when your edit was made.

Second, you previously uploaded three images to the wiki which are missing some required information. GSwiki now has a new policy for all images uploaded to it. Please see Gswiki:Policy#Copyrights for more information about that policy and the requirement to note image creators, what AI imaging software was used (if any), and if permission was granted by the creator to upload the image to the wiki.

  • File:Dirvy Britbane medium.jpg - Thank you for already stating that Stormyrain created this artwork. You will need to add whether Stormyrain also gave you permission to upload the image onto the wiki. This information will need to be noted both on the image file as well as all articles displaying it.
  • File:Dirvy by Flimbo.jpg - Thank you for already stating that Flimbo created this artwork. You will need to add whether Flimbo also gave you permission to upload the image onto the wiki. This information will need to be noted both on the image file as well as all articles displaying it.
  • File:Zailon.png - Thank you for already stating that Flimbo created this artwork. You will need to add whether Flimbo also gave you permission to upload the image onto the wiki. This information will need to be noted both on the image file as well as all articles displaying it.

In all cases for the character page and the three images, if the required information is not added within 7 days, the edits to the character page and the images will be deleted from the wiki. If you have any questions about this process or need more information about the updated policy for images, please reach out to the wiki team on the Gemstone forum's wiki thread. Images and Article Edits at Risk for Deletion

User talk:TWILSON: Hello, TWILSON. I am reaching out to you about two things.

First, you recently edited a character page article, Dirvy (prime), which was originally created and edited by another user.

Second, you recently uploaded an image to the wiki, File:Dirvy gencraft image.jpg, which is missing some required information. GSwiki now has a new policy for all images uploaded to it. Please see Gswiki:Policy#Copyrights for more information about that policy and the requirement to note image creators, what AI imaging software was used (if any), and if permission was granted by the creator to upload the image to the wiki. Images using AI software in their creation are also required to be included in Category:AI artwork Thank you for already noting that it was created using AI software. You will need to add who created the image and, if that person is not you, if you had permission to upload it to the wiki. This information will need to be noted both on the image file as well as any articles displaying it.

In all cases for the character page and the image, if the required information is not added within 7 days, the edits to the character page and the image will be deleted from the wiki. If you have any questions about this process or need more information about the updated policy for images, please reach out to the wiki team on the Gemstone forum's wiki thread. Thank you for understanding. HOST-GSKEBECHET (talk) 09:49, 17 October 2023 (CDT)

Blanked article

User talk:GS4ALASTIR: Hi there, GS4ALASTIR. I noticed that you created an article for Emberthorn Refuge with a lot of information on it then shortly afterward went back and removed all of the text. Are you trying to have the article deleted? If so, placing {{delete}} on an article flags it for mods to review for deletion. Thanks again for your many contributions! Short Story Question

User talk:CHIVERSFREE1: Hello, CHIVERSFREE1. The wiki team is currently working on some updates for the style guide as it relates to various types of creative works, including short stories and vignettes. This includes better defining what different creative works are so that they are better reflected with the creative-works template, article titles, etc., to help out both contributors and other players accessing the wiki. I know that you have been working on several lengthy articles, such as The Reckoning (short story), which might span several categories of creative works. I was hoping that you could share some insight on how you have approached writing articles like it.

You have "The Reckoning" labeled as a short story with the creative-works template. It appears to be a series of glimpses into off-screen/out-of-game roleplay focusing on your character as opposed to a short story written or shared by your character or set within Elanthia in general. Would you feel that is accurate - that it is more a lengthy series of off-screen vignettes as opposed to a formal short story? It also appears that there are sometimes contributions by other authors, such as chapters where Rohese and Mirkk are having a conversation or actively doing things together. Is "The Reckoning" retelling events that have taken place in game in a prose format (as opposed to a log format)? In some ways, it seems like it might almost be a player-run storyline focusing on Rohese's personal growth and evolution.

Thank you in advance for any insight you can offer. HOST-GSKEBECHET (talk) 10:33, 3 October 2023 (CDT)

Elanthian Journals

By chance are you able to see the old Elanthian Journal pages that were deleted? I just realized.. one thing I never did is check each one to see what linked to them. I just found a page that linked to a Journal :| WINTERDAWN (talk) 16:52, 12 August 2022 (CDT)

Unfortunately, no. Once a page is deleted, it is gone-gone. However, I was able to pull up a list of broken links and adjusted seven pages that appeared to reference the old Elanthian Journal pages. That should hopefully have caught any others that were overlooked! HOST-GSKEBECHET (talk) 09:45, 16 August 2022 (CDT)
Thank you for this! Sorry for the extra work. WINTERDAWN (talk) 15:44, 16 August 2022 (CDT)
Very welcome! Thank you for bringing up the potential of broken links. HOST-GSKEBECHET (talk) 08:14, 17 August 2022 (CDT)

Merchants template

I cobbled that template together in 2019, as a pet project, when things were a little more relaxed. So many people were "remember that one merchant? Where were they?? What did they look like??", that it felt like a good addition. Anyway, it was a build based on a template someone else had done, as you've likely read. I had planned on continuing work on it, then COVID hit and I turned into a homeschool teacher for two young teenagers.

Venues: the primary reason I changed those venues was because it was putting so many merchants into categories that didn't exist, and may not have been the best one for them to go into at the time. By restricting category to "wandering" and others that already had a category made, it cut down on "red links"; wandering moved them into a common category and could be changed later. Generally speaking, if they had a mention in their blurb as to what venue they attended, I removed the category that was causing a red link, although any that did not were likely an oversight (the notable exception being Elsia - I forgot to research her item, Fancy Coats, so I could add the venue).

Towns: it was my intention to adapt the template to allow them to be placed into the category for that town. An example would be citizen-only merchants such as Duvernith or Davro. I admittedly got wrapped up in EG item-adding and had not gotten back to fixing the "town" venue to populate into town pages instead of Town NPCs, a category that doesn't exist, so I just left town uncategorized for the time being.

Many of those merchants I added myself with no real idea of what venues they had visited, in that hopes of at least having an appearance and a basic blurb to be expanded upon later. I had intended to continue with the work after EG and add category pages where appropriate. That section of the template might get pretty long for particularly industrious merchants! Wandering seemed like a good fit if they didn't have what might be considered a "primary festival" (for example, I wouldn't be surprised to see Elusionari in a lot of places!).

That said, I get that once you add a template, you basically lose any claim to it being "yours". However, no one else really took an interest in it, and I was told it would need work anyway, so I figured I was all right to try to adapt it to not use non-existent categories for the time being, since many (most?) of them had venue linked in the blurb or the body of the article. Table updates

Hello! As I'm sure you've noticed, I've been going through and updating older items to the newer templates. A lot of them are simple, but some of them require more time; much more time in some cases. For those, fortunately, a lot them are more or less copy and paste for the verb lists with a few minor tweaks. I noticed that on a couple of them you've gone back and added in formatting for data tables for accessibility purposes. I read up on that today and I'll be sure to add that going forward, but I was wondering: Is there a way you are finding those that need it or are you just kind of seeing them as I'm doing them? I'd be more than happy to go back correct the formatting on those, but if there's a way I can find them more "wholesale" than "piecemeal", that would make the job easier. ECHEAUX (talk) 17:40, 9 November 2022 (CST)

Hi there! Part of my duties as one of our wiki mods are to review recent page changes to ensure that they are appropriate to the wiki, are accurate, are appropriately named as a page or subpage, and that they generally comply with the wiki style guide. So you'll see me doing things like updating pages to use new template standards, moving pages that aren't named properly, fixing redirects or broken links, updating categories, reviewing pages listed in Category:Marked for Deletion, and similar "moderator" type duties focused on overall wiki consistency that are not expected of general users who instead are adding new content to the wiki. One of the standards set out by the style guide and the wiki team is to ensure that the wiki is as accessible as possible to everyone, including our users who rely on a screen reader. If I run across any pages during my patrols that don't meet current standards, including tables that are not set up in a way for screen readers to properly capture, part of my job as a moderator is to update them accordingly. Since you have been incredibly active on the wiki over the past couple of months, I am much more likely to review your edits than other users due to sheer volume; that's why it might look like I'm going back to change pages you've touched more so than other users. Thanks for inquiring! If you'd like to know more about our moderator team or what our role is, I encourage you to ask on the Gemstone Discord's #wiki-talk channel where one of the GMs overseeing the wiki can chime in. HOST-GSKEBECHET (talk) 08:11, 10 November 2022 (CST)
Oh, I understand that. I just wasn't sure if there was an easy way to see pages with certain errors so I could fix those that I missed them on. I can go through my contribution list and do it, though. Thanks for getting back to me!ECHEAUX (talk) 10:34, 10 November 2022 (CST)

Northern Sentinel's Decree

Hello! My intention with this page was to list only the legal characteristics of the Landing's protectorate status. I deliberately did not want to include the preamble and ending of the letter, as they did not carry legal weight. As such, I would like to revert it to a version which contains only those legal characteristics. In my view, a log page or official document page would be more appropriate for recording the entire letter. WBURKE1 (talk)

Hi, WBURKE1. Thanks for reaching out to me! I am not ignoring your query; I am waiting on a response from the larger wiki team about how to approach this specific scenario with the article Northern Sentinel's Decree on the Imperial Protection of Wehnimer's Landing. As I explained to WINTERDAWN, generally speaking an article's Talk page is not an appropriate venue for archiving important information. Given the nature of this specific article as well as the duplicate information between it and the article Protectorate, I am waiting on confirmation on how best to handle it before taking any further action. Unless another mod or GM weighs in before me, it will likely not be until next week that I can relay the final determination. I appreciate your patience and understanding with this. Thank you again for all of your contributions to the wiki. HOST-GSKEBECHET (talk) 09:40, 9 February 2023 (CST)
Hello again, WBURKE1. This should help ensure that the intent behind the original page, which is to succinctly state the terms of the Landing's Protectorate status, is maintained while still preserving information. Thank you again for your patience as I worked to resolve this. Please let me know if you have any further questions or concerns. HOST-GSKEBECHET (talk) 09:13, 14 February 2023 (CST)
Thanks for this resolution and for all your hard work! WBURKE1 (talk) 12:39, 14 February 2023 (CST)

I don't know what I'm doing!

Hi, I tried to DM, failed! But found.. this space. And I have no idea if I'm doing it correctly. I READ WHAT YOU WROTE and thank you for what was pointed out I will work on figuring out how to fix it, it just might not be instantly remedied (not too long, just not a finger-snap of time, I'm still figuring stuff out!) -DASLOONIX
