Larger than a domestic cat, the giant rat stands over a foot high. Dark brown in color, shading off to white on the belly, with naked pink ears and narrow glinting eyes, the rat glares with unrestrained bloodlust. Known to exist in great packs, the rat has brought more than one over-eager adventurer to an early grave.[1]

Hunting strategies

There are rooms in the rat hunting areas in the Wehnimer's Catacombs where the creatures and the adventurers are given a +10 DS bonus.

Giant rats can disease you if they bite you. The disease is typically weak, initially taking 3 damage per round.

A giant rat tries to bite you!
  AS: +34 vs DS: +30 with AvD: +33 + d100 roll: +86 = +123
... and hits for 10 points of damage!
Diagonal slash to your weapon arm.
Strike misses but bruises a few knuckles.
You suddenly feel deathly ill as your body is wracked by a virulent disease!

Other information

Historically, the area in the sewers beneath Wehnimer's Landing was the first hunting ground for quite a lot of adventurers, and they would frequently rest at the Cul-de-Sac entrance to the catacombs. This faded away a few years ago, after the opening of Ta'Vaalor and the diversion of most new players there, as well as the node status being removed from the Cul-de-Sac. In that era, the Cul-de-Sac was often among the five busiest sites in the Landing, and was almost exclusively populated by non-titled adventurers.
