Synopsis

Early in the evening, Magister Remuliad calls for anyone to gather at the Hendoran outpost if they want to assist with studying flora and insect samples gathered from Melgorehn's Reach during a mote storm. After everyone fills a glaes vat with the acid and dissolves bugs and herbs in it, Remuliad collects vials of the goo inside and experiments begin.

First he tests its reaction to normal fire in the outpost laboratory. It simply bubbles and cooks, but nothing unusual happens. Next they test its reaction to a manafire after settling on the one at the Coastal Cliffs. Magister Raelee holds it near the fire with tongs and it bubbles slowly at first, then more violently, then sludge spews forth, then it roils until the vial shatters and melts her hand off! They use a second sample to confirm and the reaction is the same, as Lylia volunteers (beating out Missoni in roshambo for it) and mostly melts her hand off.

Raelee notes that they're lacking a control without testing normal acid, so Pukk accidentally volunteers himself by revealing that he has a vial. However, the reaction is simple heating and bubbling, nothing more. Afterward, they record the results on the blackboard at the lab, muse about other possible experiments, conclude that they need to better understand the relationship between Rodnay and the motes (if there is one), and conclude that they need to gather bugs and flora from places not influenced by the Reach. Remuliad says he'll seal the dilute for possible future use before thanking everyone and leaving.

Later in the evening, Mayor Alendrial greets Wehnimer's Landing and wishes to speak in the Council Chambers, as she's been told someone is meeting with everyone. As people gather and await her, a red glow is spotted in the sky outside, blossoming and washing over town, then diminishing before disappearing over Darkstone Bay. Alendrial arrives and asks about the red light, as people explain it's been going on for months; she suggests patrols on the Glatoph and asks if a full search has been conducted; people say searches have, but maybe not full ones.

While everyone waits for Alendrial's guest, people congratulate her on winning and she thanks them and notes the busy summer for politics, giving nods to Envoy candidates Kelfyr and Tikba in the room. (Other candidates being Faerinn, Tennalnen, and Thrassus.) She asks Councilors Kayse, Kiyna, and Vaemyr if they'll run again; Kayse says yes, Kiyna says no, and Vaemyr says he'll ponder until the last moment. Goldstr asks if there's a position for Thadston to hold; Alendrial says she doesn't think he wishes to hold one, as it chained and caged him more than he thought it would.

Soon enough, Alendrial's guest arrives: a half-elf with two missing fingers on his right hand. She asks how "he" (not the half-elf) is and he says "he's" surviving like he always does. Kiyna surmises that he's a Scion of Shaundara or associate, and Vaemyr asks if Alendrial is checking on Stephos; Alendrial says they can both be correct.

The half-elf brings word, saying he can speak more freely given the recent trial and revelations, and that the Brotherhood of Rooks helped arrange and secure the information he's providing: Theodulph Underhill is the name of the Wraith. Alendrial says it sounds familiar and asks everyone to wait there a moment, then heads off. She soon comes back and says she'd seen the name in a ledger filed by Amos (while acting in her prior capacity as Steward of the Coffers): he purchased one of Amos' pylon ships months ago. The half-elf says he'll stay in touch with Alendrial and "he" has another request, but it's not ready yet.

Alendrial says she'll try to get further information from Amos about where the ship went or if he knows anything more of Underhill than a name and receipt. Leafiara says Tyrrax's forces once sunk a pylon ship, so it's possible the Landing can; Alendrial agrees and says it's just about mitigating the losses to do so; Kayse says maybe Tyrrax can do it again; Alendrial wants the cycle of leveraging enemies against enemies to come to an end or be few and far between.

Alendrial considers the possibility that the reason we've not seen the ship used is because of the Wraith's hidden identity, but knowing it might provoke a response. Kayse says Amos still has two pylon ships to the Wraith's one (though only one of Amos' is docked at the Landing), but Alendrial says she would not bet on Amos using his ship to fight the other ship and risk destruction without a significant deal favoring him.

Alendrial concludes the night saying our work continues, but we're ending Underhill and his minions--no prison, no pardon, unite to dig the grave of someone who's bled and divided the town.

Reach Research Prep

[Rusty Cutlass, Grub Hall]

Burnished wooden planks curve out to form the massive hall of the tavern's entrance, with rows of sturdy oaken posts rising to connect with a network of rafters above. Dozens of blackened oil lanterns hang from the ceiling, their light at times a haze behind wisps of smoke drifting in from the galley. In the center rests a huge cast-iron pot surrounded by countless tables and barrel chairs. A half-circle driftwood bar is nestled in the corner beneath a salt-stained crest. You also see a large driftwood box, a wide wooden ramp and an open archway leading to a wooden plank bridge.

[General] Remuliad thinks, "Oh my. What a lovely evening, isn't it? Don't mind me if you hear any strange sounds from the outpost. Are any of the other researchers about who would like to participate in the experiment tonight? I should be ready soon. I just need a bit more acid."

[General] Leafiara curiously asks, "Do you only want your research team or anyone available?"

[General] Remuliad thinks, "Anyone who is interested in helping may come, of course. Just please be careful, and read the sign on the vat here so you don't do anything you may regret."

[General] Raelee thinks, "And absolutely no food or beverages."

[General] Remuliad thinks, "Please bring more acid, if you have any to spare."

[travel]

[Hendoran Outpost, Laboratory]

Faint shimmering wards run along the black walls of this circular laboratory, while the dark ceiling stretches to a high apex of opaque glass windows which allow for a warm glow from the moon to bleed through. Situated in one corner is a polished drakar-inlaid crucible, just opposite of a slate-topped workbench. Two large bookshelves stand like wooden sentinels on each side of a rune-carved steel door. You also see the Kelfyr disk, the repousse copper Perigourd disk raised in leafy designs and a translucent dark glaes vat.

Also here: Whimweaver Leafiara, Preservationist Perigourd, Sir Cryheart, Kelfyr, Magister Raelee, Magister Remuliad

Remuliad softly says, "I have scoured everything with water, using a simple spell. Hopefully it will be enough for tonight's study."

Leafiara says, "Aha."

Remuliad softly says, "Please read the vat, and take appropriate precautions."

>read vat

There is nothing there to read.

>l vat

Strong enough to evoke tears, the stench from the vat is almost impossible to recover from. Affixed to the vat, an acid-stained wooden sign simply states, "WARNING - WILL DESTROY ANYTHING."

Remuliad softly says, "The acid is still quite strong as a dilute, and will dissolve anything you put in it."

Leafiara amusedly says, "Well, that's pretty clear."

Speaking to Remuliad, Raelee asks, "Have you a sack or a box or something of the like?"

Remuliad softly says, "I try to be succinct when needed, contrary to my usual conversations I'm told."

Remuliad's cheeks flush with a soft shade of apricot.

Leafiara glances at Remuliad and breaks into a cheeky grin.

Remuliad softly says, "A box? I have the insects and flora sorted, if that is what you imply, Magister Raelee."

Remuliad softly asks, "You have some as well?"

Speaking to Remuliad, Raelee says, "... I have been given numerous vials of acid."

Remuliad nods approvingly.

Remuliad softly says, "Excellent."

Remuliad softly asks, "Do you wish to add them to the vat, or shall I?"

Raelee glances apprehensively around the room.

Raelee glances at Remuliad.

Remuliad softly says, "There is some danger."

Remuliad softly exclaims, "I had to be healed twice already from splashes!"

Leafiara slowly notes, "I don't believe we have a healer here..."

Kelfyr reaches out and pats his first aid kit.

Speaking to Remuliad, Raelee says, "I do not fear acid."

Remuliad softly says, "It may... react."

Kelfyr says, "Healer in a bag."

After Raelee tosses a clear glass vial of light yellow acid into the dark glaes vat, a patch of bubbles roil the oily surface of the vat as the vial fades from sight.

Missoni says, "I am sure we have the necessary tinctures, if anything should splatter."

As Raelee drops a clear glass vial of light yellow acid into the dark glaes vat, the vat bubbles, hisses, and pops, before dissolving the vial away into nothingness.

Speaking to Missoni, Perigourd says, "Depends perhaps on how much is splattered.."

As Raelee drops a clear glass vial of light yellow acid into the dark glaes vat, the vat bubbles, hisses, and pops, before dissolving the vial away into nothingness.

After Raelee tosses a clear glass vial of light yellow acid into the dark glaes vat, a patch of bubbles roil the oily surface of the vat as the vial fades from sight.

Ripples spread across the surface of the vat from where the vial pierces the surface after Raelee throws it in.

As Raelee drops a clear glass vial of light yellow acid into the dark glaes vat, the vat bubbles, hisses, and pops, before dissolving the vial away into nothingness.

The dark glaes vat reacts violently to the clear glass vial Raelee throws into it. Vapors rise from the turbulence on the oily surface of the vat as the vial melts into its deadly embrace.

Speaking to his copper orchid bee, Perigourd says, "Don't worry, you're not going in."

(Raelee calmly pours the acid, vial by vial, into the vat - seemingly unbothered by the vapors.)

The acid begins to slowly bubble in the vat, filling it higher! The vat is almost full of acid now.

Remuliad applauds.

As Raelee drops a clear glass vial of light yellow acid into the dark glaes vat, the vat bubbles, hisses, and pops, before dissolving the vial away into nothingness.

After Raelee places a clear glass vial of light yellow acid into the dark glaes vat, it disappears below the vat's surface releasing a wisp of foul vapor.

Raelee drops a clear glass vial of light yellow acid into a translucent dark glaes vat.

Remuliad softly says, "Excellent. It is almost full."

Speaking to Remuliad, Raelee says, "That is what I have."

Missoni says, "Ah it seems we were able to collect plenty."

Remuliad softly says, "That should be enough. We will need room for the insects and flora."

Perigourd says, "Yes, an overflow would be unwise."

Remuliad agrees with Perigourd.

Remuliad removes a large tan sack from his belt.

Remuliad attaches a large tan sack to his belt.

Remuliad rummages through a small blue leather pouch but it's clear he hasn't a clue if what he is looking for is there.

Remuliad softly says, "Oh yes. This is the one."

Remuliad removes a small blue leather pouch from his belt.

Remuliad drops a small blue leather pouch.

Remuliad softly says, "If everyone could help toss those in the acid please."

Kelfyr removes a cinnamon fire ant from in a small blue leather pouch.

Remuliad points at a translucent dark glaes vat.

>l in pouch

In the leather pouch:

Special [2]: a ruby-bodied flat black lovebug, a mottled chestnut stinkbug

After Kelfyr places a cinnamon fire ant into the dark glaes vat, it disappears below the vat's surface releasing a wisp of foul vapor.

Remuliad softly says, "Just put them in the vat there, carefully."

Speaking to Remuliad, Missoni asks, "All of them?"

The dark glaes vat reacts violently to the dark rhinoceros beetle you throw into it. Vapors rise from the turbulence on the oily surface of the vat as the beetle melts into its deadly embrace.

Remuliad nods.

Speaking to Remuliad, Raelee asks, "Have we no order for this?"

Remuliad softly says, "This is all of the ones from the most recent expedition."

Ripples spread across the surface of the vat from where the bark pierces the surface after Kelfyr throws it in.

Ripples spread across the surface of the vat from where the meadowhawk pierces the surface after you throw it in.

Ripples spread across the surface of the vat from where the stinkbug pierces the surface after Missoni throws it in.

Speaking to Remuliad, Perigourd asks, "You wished to differentiate between the insects and flora though?"

After Cryheart tosses a snapdragon plume moth into the dark glaes vat, a patch of bubbles roil the oily surface of the vat as the moth fades from sight.

Cryheart drops a leaf blotch miner moth into a translucent dark glaes vat.

Remuliad softly says, "It should all be from the same outing."

After Cryheart tosses a wave-striped reddish fox moth into the dark glaes vat, a patch of bubbles roil the oily surface of the vat as the moth fades from sight.

Cryheart drops a leaf blotch miner moth into a translucent dark glaes vat.

After Cryheart places a cloudless sulphur butterfly into the dark glaes vat, it disappears below the vat's surface releasing a wisp of foul vapor.

After Vaemyr places an ayana'al lichen into the dark glaes vat, it disappears below the vat's surface releasing a wisp of foul vapor.

Remuliad softly says, "Just be careful, I don't want anyone to get splashed."

Remuliad softly says, "No need to rush."

Kelfyr drops a spike-horned dark rhinoceros beetle into a translucent dark glaes vat.

After placing a taupe-edged black grass bug into the vat, it disappears below the vat's surface releasing a wisp of foul vapor.

Remuliad frets.

Ripples spread across the surface of the vat from where the firefly pierces the surface after Perigourd throws it in.

Cryheart drops a black-dotted saffron yellow ladybird into a translucent dark glaes vat.

After Perigourd places a ten-lined potato beetle into the dark glaes vat, it disappears below the vat's surface releasing a wisp of foul vapor.

Ripples spread across the surface of the vat from where the root pierces the surface after Raelee throws it in.

The dark glaes vat reacts violently to the sugar cane Cryheart throws into it. Vapors rise from the turbulence on the oily surface of the vat as the cane melts into its deadly embrace.

After Perigourd tosses a golden aster into the dark glaes vat, a patch of bubbles roil the oily surface of the vat as the aster fades from sight.

After Perigourd tosses some wingstem root into the dark glaes vat, a patch of bubbles roil the oily surface of the vat as the root fades from sight.

After Missoni tosses a wild pink geranium into the dark glaes vat, a patch of bubbles roil the oily surface of the vat as the geranium fades from sight.

The dilute in the vat begins to turn a murky yellow hue, then brown. Once the final pieces of tiny insect legs and remnants of exoskeleton have been dissolved, the reaction ceases and the liquid stills in the vat.

As Cryheart drops an ironfern root into the dark glaes vat, the vat bubbles, hisses, and pops, before dissolving the root away into nothingness.

Leafiara drops some pennyroyal stem into a translucent dark glaes vat.

The dark glaes vat burps, sending a large green glob at a perfect arc right into Leafiara's eye!

... 5 points of damage!

Drop of acid gets in Leafiara's eye! Better flush it out.

She is stunned!

Remuliad glances over at Leafiara and winces.

Leafiara stares at nothing in particular.

Leafiara blinks.

Leafiara blinks.

Leafiara blinks.

Leafiara painfully says, "Ouch."

After Missoni places a stalk of bluebells into the dark glaes vat, it disappears below the vat's surface releasing a wisp of foul vapor.

Leafiara rubs her eyes.

Leafiara rubs her eyes.

Speaking to Leafiara, Vaemyr says, "Lucky winner."

As Missoni drops some pennyroyal stem into the dark glaes vat, the vat bubbles, hisses, and pops, before dissolving the stem away into nothingness.

Remuliad softly says, "I guess it had one little bit of a reaction left."

Kelfyr says, "Some of the sugar may have dusted in and reacted." [OOC note: He's referring to the light coating of sugar on Leafi's hands from an illusion item. Now that I think about it, I guess she had it coming after Raelee started off the night saying no food or beverages!]

As Missoni drops a golden aster into the dark glaes vat, the vat bubbles, hisses, and pops, before dissolving the aster away into nothingness.

'Remuliad glances at Leafiara bashfully, blushes, and mumbles a few words, plainly embarrassed.

After Perigourd places an ironfern root into the dark glaes vat, it disappears below the vat's surface releasing a wisp of foul vapor.

Leafiara tentatively says, "I... think I'm okay... mostly."

Leafiara blinks.

Leafiara blinks.

Leafiara rubs her eyes.

Missoni says, "That is the lot of them."

Missoni offers Leafiara a squat glass tincture of effervescent basal.

Leafiara accepts Missoni's offer tincture of effervescent basal.

Leafiara praises Missoni, expounding upon her fine features and excellent characteristics.

Leafiara takes a drink from her tincture of basal.

Leafiara's right eye looks better.

Speaking appreciatively to Missoni, Leafiara exclaims, "Thank you!"

Missoni offers Leafiara a squat glass tincture of effervescent talneo.

Kelfyr says, "Lots of pent up energy in sugar."

Vaemyr says, "You people are really... uh fast at dumping things in acid."

Leafiara accept Missoni's tincture of effervescent talneo.

Speaking to Leafiara, Missoni says, "Of course."

Leafiara takes a drink from her tincture of talneo.

Leafiara's right eye looks better.

Speaking to Vaemyr, Kelfyr says, "That sounds like an implication."

Speaking to Vaemyr, Perigourd says, "It's a new experience to having acid dumped at us."

Perigourd says, "Much more enjoyable."

The dilute in the vat begins to turn into a dark sludge. It is difficult to tell when the final pieces of tiny insect legs and remnants of exoskeleton have been dissolved, but the reaction ceases and the thick acidic green goo stills in the vat.

Speaking to Leafiara, Missoni says, "In my line of work, one must always be ready to replace an eye."

Speaking lightly to Vaemyr, Leafiara asks, "Listen, we're used to playing with fire literally and metaphorically, but what if we played with fire metaphorically and acid literally?"

Remuliad glances at something in a translucent dark glaes vat.

Missoni dubiously asks, "Is it supposed to be so...viscous?"

>l in vat

In the dark glaes vat:

Special [1]: some murky green goo

Remuliad softly asks, "It seems to have settled a bit. Do you think it is safe to handle, Magister Raelee?"

Tikba glances apprehensively between a translucent dark glaes vat and Leafiara.

Speaking quietly to Missoni, Perigourd says, "I left my goo gloves in the other satchel."

Speaking suddenly to Tikba, Leafiara explains, "Oh, don't worry, we're done throwing things into it. ...I think."

Speaking to Remuliad, Raelee asks, "By 'safe' do you mean inert? Or simply unlikely to be fatal?"

Speaking to Raelee, Missoni says, "I have a syringe, if that would help. If it is not too thick."

Remuliad grabs a clear glass vial from his sack.

Speaking to Missoni, Perigourd asks, "Whom are you experimenting on?"

Speaking to Perigourd, Missoni says, "One never knows."

Speaking to Missoni, Perigourd says, "It's for infusing your fishcakes I bet."

Vaemyr says, "Can test I guess..."

Speaking to Perigourd, Missoni says, "Blood is not the secret recipe."

Perigourd whispers something to Missoni.

Vaemyr says, "Doesn't seem too safe."

Remuliad softly says, "Magister Raelee seems to be lost in thought. I will do my best."

Kelfyr says, "It is a strange and ponderous field, the study and handling of goos."

Leafiara cheerfully offers, "She's always in thought, so she was bound to get lost in it sooner or later."

Speaking to Remuliad, Raelee says, "I am paying attention, Magister Remuliad."

Leafiara amusedly relents, "Or not."

Remuliad nods at Raelee.

Remuliad softly asks, "What do you think, Magister?"

Remuliad softly asks, "How safe do you think it is to handle, or should we wait?"

Cryheart says, "One has to be cautious with this stuff, which is reasonable."

Speaking to Remuliad, Raelee asks, "How are we defining safe?"

Remuliad softly says, "I am not much of an expert when it comes to acid. You seem a bit more comfortable with it."

Kelfyr says, "Always a comforting question."

Speaking to Raelee, Vaemyr says, "Death and or permanent damage to the person handling."

Remuliad softly says, "Oh, apologies Magister Raelee. It seems I may have been the one lost in thought."

Remuliad softly says, "It is known to happen with me."

Remuliad's cheeks flush with a soft shade of apricot.

Raelee says, "Injury is possible, death is unlikely."

Raelee says, "Let us just proceed and let the consequences of those who are not careful enough be theirs to shoulder."

Remuliad nods approvingly.

Remuliad softly says, "Very well. The risk is worth it."

Missoni cheerfully says, "That is fair."

Leafiara philosophically exclaims, "Nothing ventured, nothing gained!"

Cryheart says, "In case something does happen, I promise to look after Owly."

Speaking to Cryheart, Missoni whispers aloud, "You already do."

Remuliad slowly dips his vial in the acidic green goo, mostly filling it with the murky substance.

Speaking slowly to Cryheart, Raelee says, "... fine."

Remuliad softly says, "That is one."

Speaking to Remuliad, Perigourd asks, "How many are you hoping for?"

Leafiara amiably says, "Hopefully trying to glean information from it becomes more clear than it looks outwardly."

Remuliad softly says, "Enough to complete the experiment."

Reaction to Fire

Remuliad softly asks, "We should see how this reacts to normal fire, yes?"

Missoni agrees, "That seems sensible."

Perigourd says, "Acid and fire don't often react well.."

Remuliad softly says, "There is a brazier over here."

Magister Remuliad just limped southwest.

Speaking offhandedly to Vaemyr, Leafiara acknowledges, "Okay, I take it back, we get to play with fire *and* acid literally."

[Hendoran Outpost, Alchemist]

A thick wooden table sits beneath a wide wood-framed blackboard and dominates the center of the room, where it is surrounded by a number of locked chests and trunks, many of them labeled with the crest of the Hall of Mages. Large curtains flank an arched rune-etched window, allowing for the quick extinguishing of light, while numerous candles in various states of melted usage perch from precarious places throughout the room. The faint aroma of sulphur and herbs lingers in the air of the area. You also see a wash basin, a rune-carved wooden door, a tall invar brazier, a basket of sticks, a gold talon-shaped lantern mounted on a nearby wall and a sturdy wooden chair.

Also here: Magister Remuliad

Raelee breaks a stick into pieces and tosses them into the brazier.

Raelee takes some wooden sticks and places them in the brazier. Using two of the smaller pieces, she rubs them until a tiny flame bursts out. Placing the burning twigs among the prepared wood, she blows gently on them until the flames spread and grow.

Raelee takes a wooden stick and tosses it into the fire and watches as the flames leap higher.

Raelee takes a wooden stick and tosses it into the fire and watches as the flames leap higher.

Remuliad softly exclaims, "I forgot my pouch!"

Magister Remuliad just limped northeast.

Missoni says, "I am sure it would have been fine."

Leafiara sympathetically says, "Lost in thought indeed."

Magister Remuliad just limped in.

Remuliad softly says, "Good, it looks nice and... fiery."

Remuliad nods approvingly.

Remuliad softly asks, "Before we test. Does anyone have a theory?"

Leafiara happily says, "Nothing quite like a blaze."

>read blackboard
The following messages are written on the wood-framed blackboard:
Melgorehn's Reach - Research
Motes - Mana? Divine? Demonic? Extraplanar?
Mana Fires - Source or Catalyst of diffused essence?
Environmental - Insects and Flora native to area. Prolonged exposure or rapid accumulation?
Heddo Raelee

Perigourd asks, "On the reaction?"

Remuliad softly asks, "Will it react to normal fire in some way, just for being infused with the motes?"

Leafiara asks, "A theory on... what will happen if you expose it to the fire?"

Leafiara ponders.

Missoni says, "Well, if it behaves like normal acid, it ought to ignite quite readily."

Remuliad nods at Leafiara.

Remuliad softly says, "I suppose we shall find out."

Missoni says, "I am not sure why the motes should suppress that."

Leafiara admits, "You know, I wasn't thinking about it, but now that you mention it, I guess we should brace for a giant elemental to suddenly explode into existence."

Speaking to Leafiara, Perigourd says, "If so, perhaps we can make some plinite."

Speaking to Leafiara, Missoni agrees, "The motes could amplify the reaction."

Speaking to Leafiara, Tikba asks, "How shall we brace for that?"

Raelee says, "I would not expect any strong reaction from the motes to normal fire. We have not seen any unusual activity surrounding the numerous fires that are always about during the mote events."

Vaemyr says, "I don't think there will be much different in the reaction. But I suppose that's what we're here to find out, to see if the motes do react differently to various elements."

Speaking amusedly to Tikba, Leafiara asks, "Same as ever, be ready to defend?"

Cryheart slings a black tower shield off from over his shoulder.

Cryheart says, "Just in case."

Speaking to Cryheart, Perigourd says, "You're not flammable with all that kroderine."

Cryheart says, "Just be cautious."

Missoni says, "Even kroderine gets hot, I am sure."

Cryheart says, "We might find out."

Remuliad holds his sludge-filled vial in some tongs, just above the burning brazier. The murky goo inside bubbles almost immediately.

Remuliad softly says, "Oh, something is happening. How interesting."

Cryheart asks, "Interesting good or interesting bad?"

Speaking to Cryheart, Raelee says, "Neutral."

The sludge inside the vial begins to bubble a bit, then smoke begins to pour from the vial as the sludge rapidly hardens and cooks! The foul odor of the smoke is overwhelmingly potent and burns in your nostrils!

Remuliad softly exclaims, "Agh!"

Remuliad takes a handful of a murky sludge-filled vial, and throws it into the air around himself!

You notice a gas cloud begin to form above you.

You notice the gas cloud begin to condense!

White flames briefly flicker around Raelee's hand as she deftly traces an elemental pattern in the air.

Missoni asks, "Should we dispel it?"

Raelee gestures at a gas cloud.

A strong blast of air lashes out at a gas cloud, causing it to quickly dissipate.

Remuliad softly exclaims, "Cloud!"

Leafiara curiously says, "So uh.."

Missoni says, "I suppose so."

Remuliad frets.

Leafiara concedes, "Apparently."

Raelee gives a sidelong glance at Remuliad.

Vaemyr says, "Hmm."

Remuliad softly says, "It seems to have cooked it."

Cryheart says, "We dinnae want to blow up the Outpost."

Kelfyr says, "I wonder if the discharges would have been similar to the activity above the peak."

Speaking to Remuliad, Raelee says, "As fire is wont to do."

Remuliad places the tongs on the table, and moves towards the wash basin.

Missoni muses, "It did not ignite."

Remuliad lightly taps the edge of the basin and you hear the sound of gurgling water.

Remuliad collects a glass from those arranged nearby and pushes it through the collected water within a wash basin.

Remuliad takes a drink from his cool and clean water.

Remuliad takes a drink from his cool and clean water.

Tikba uncertainly says, "And yet it produced smoke."

Remuliad just poured his cool and clean water on top of his head.

Remuliad shivers.

Remuliad's hands glow with power as he summons elemental energy to his command...

Remuliad gestures.

Remuliad hurls a small surge of electricity at himself, causing a crackling halo of static to swirl about his head, standing all his hair straight on end. How silly!

Remuliad's hair suddenly stands straight up!

Leafiara considers, "I suppose that's one way to guard yourself against being set on fire lat--"

Remuliad sets about preparing himself to be as presentable as possible.

Perigourd whispers something to Missoni.

Speaking softly to Raelee, Remuliad asks, "Results? What do you think?"

Remuliad softly asks, "Any thoughts, anyone?"

Speaking to Remuliad, Raelee says, "I believe that was a standard chemical reaction, rather than alchemical."

Remuliad nods in agreement at Raelee.

Missoni says, "That did seem rather pedestrian."

Remuliad softly says, "I do agree. It seemed rather usual for acid and fire."

Leafiara agreeably says, "Very straightforward within expectation."

Remuliad softly says, "But I defer to your expertise on those two. I am more inclined to other elements."

Remuliad closes his eyes in concentration for a moment. When he opens them again, a soft white glow fills them briefly before fading.

Reaction to Manafire

Remuliad softly says, "We need another sample, and then to find those magical fires you mentioned."

Missoni says, "Ah, that seems sensible."

Remuliad grabs a clear glass vial from his sack.

Remuliad softly exclaims, "Back to the vat!"

Magister Remuliad just limped northeast.

You also see an antagonistic wasteland spirit that is flying around, a lazy wild black dog and a translucent dark glaes vat.

Remuliad slowly dips his vial in the acidic green goo, mostly filling it with the murky substance.

Remuliad softly asks, "Does anyone know a safe place to conduct this experiment?"

Cryheart asks, "In a vault?"

Leafiara tentatively says, "I doubt working with the manafires can ever be safe..."

Perigourd says, "I think it depends upon how close to town you wish to try, but there's a fire by the wooded hills that's not far."

Tikba wryly says, "But death would be unlikely."

Kelfyr asks, "The one out on the Glacier might be far enough out from civilization to be safer?"

Remuliad softly says, "Perhaps where it will have the least impact if something less that desired occurs."

Speaking to Tikba, Leafiara muses, "Nope, not willing to go that far this time..."

Vaemyr says, "The one in the Glacier is probably the most out of the way."

Vaemyr says, "From... our interests."

Leafiara adds, "Or anyone else's."

Remuliad softly says, "Glacier? That seems like quite the trek."

Kelfyr says, "You asked for safe, not for near."

Kelfyr shrugs.

Leafiara amiably ssay, "Could always have someone send a familiar to bring us."

Speaking to Remuliad, Vaemyr says, "Depends if you want safe or not."

Vaemyr chuckles.

Tikba says, "We must mount the Glatoph, but it is not a difficult trek."

[General] Pukk thinks, "All of us here in TSC are just talking about how quiet and peaceful it is tonight."

Speaking to Remuliad, Missoni asks, "How large are you expecting the explosion to be?"

Missoni quickly adds, "Theoretically."

Cryheart says, "Black sands is perhaps too far."

Speaking softly to Raelee, Remuliad says, "I will take your advice on this aspect of the experiment, if you could confer with the other researchers and make the final decision on which of these "mana" fires are the best option."

[General] Leafiara amusedly thinks, "Don't worry, Pukk, soon enough we're going to take goo made up of bugs and plants exposed to the Reach motes and dissolved in acid and bring it to one of the manafires to see what happens."

[General] Pukk exclaims, "Oooh that sounds fun!"

Raelee says, "I would not suggest the glacier. Any experience involving fire can see its results altered by extreme cold."

[General] Pukk asks, "Is that where you are at now?"

Cryheart asks, "Where woule ye suggest, Magister?"

[General] Leafiara thinks, "Not yet. We're deciding on a location here at the outpost lab."

Speaking to Raelee, Missoni asks, "Perhaps the sands, where there are fewer trees to burn?"

Missoni sheepishly says, "We did just do all that planting."

Vaemyr says, "We did just plant a bunch of new trees."

Raelee states, "The sands, just... keep everything out of the surf."

[General] Pukk thinks, "Larsya is the only good thing about that Outpost."

Vaemyr asks, "Who is leading?"

[General] Leafiara exclaims, "We'll be heading to the Black Sands shortly!"

Cryheart asks, "Black sands?"

Xorus says, "It is on the cliff above the Black Sands."

Leafiara recites:

"Everyone join Cryheart!"

Remuliad softly asks, "Is that near where The Shiver was sunk?"

Leafiara says, "Depends on the definition of near, I suppose..."

Remuliad softly says, "Oh good. I did not want to think about that experience."

Speaking to Remuliad, Perigourd says, "The Shiver sunk in the bay proper, the sands are more towards the inslet."

Remuliad nods approvingly.

Speaking to Remuliad, Vaemyr says, "Not that near."

Remuliad joins Cryheart's group.

Cryheart says, "Ok..black sands it be."

Cryheart asks, "All gathered?"

Remuliad softly says, "I will hold this vial carefully. Just make sure the kobolds don't knock me over."

Missoni lightly says, "No guarantees."

[travel]

Remuliad softly says, "Knocking me over while holding a vial of acid seems like a terrible evening."

Speaking to Remuliad, Raelee says, "It depends on which direction the acid falls in."

Remuliad softly says, "For me, or someone nearby."

Remuliad nods in agreement at Raelee.

Leafiara says, "Pukk's probably somewhere on the trail waiting for us to pass by, but we'll see."

Speaking evenly to Remuliad, Raelee says, "My statement stands."

[The Black Sands]

Smooth black sand stretches north to the bay. To the south, mounds of lava sit poised over the narrow beach, as though ready to flow down to the water. Long strands of rubbery seaweed lie strewn about, adding a pungent tang to the already briny air. You also see a greater kappa that appears stunned and a tall wooden archery tower.

Remuliad summons a torrent of elemental mana and releases upon himself a flurry of abjurations.

Cryheart asks, "Where we headed?"

Missoni says, "I believe we passed it, a bit."

Leafiara says, "The manafire."

Xorus says, "It is back up on the cliff."

[travel]

[Coastal Cliffs]

As the wind picks up speed it wails through the chasms in the cliff rock, sounding eerily like the cry of a woman in distress. You also see a crackling sickly-green fire, a black-whorled ashen bone pillar and a steep path.

Leafiara exclaims, "Aha!"

Vaemyr says, "Aye, we a bit too close to the beach."

Raelee says, "Here."

Cryheart says, "Ahh..I thought the actual black sands."

Remuliad limps along, nearly dropping the vial as he tries to keep up!

Remuliad pants.

Speaking to Remuliad, Raelee whispers aloud, "Careful."

Cryheart says, "Sorry."

Leafiara considers, "Maybe we need to get one of those wheeled chairs..."

Remuliad softly says, "Oh, that was close. I am here. You all... moved... so quickly."

A carrion worm tries to bite Missoni!

Missoni evades the attack with incredible finesse!

Remuliad pants.

Speaking to Leafiara, Perigourd says, "A wagon would work as well."

Missoni stares incredulously at a carrion worm.

Speaking to a carrion worm, Kelfyr asks, "Volunteering for experimentation?"

Tikba whispers a short prayer to Marlu followed by a soft incantation.

Remuliad intones a phrase of elemental power while raising his hands...

Remuliad gestures at a carrion worm.

CS: +446 - TD: +3 + CvA: +25 + d100: +67 == +535

Warding failed!

A carrion worm's eyes roll up into its head as it stands there motionless.

Tikba gestures at a carrion worm.

A carrion worm is awakened by Tikba's attack!

CS: +327 - TD: +3 + CvA: +25 + d100: +12 == +361

Warding failed!

A calm washes over a carrion worm.

A sea nymph just arrived.

Leafiara calls upon the local spirits and directs them through the area...

Leafiara gestures.

A sense of peace and calm settles over the area.

[General] Pukk thinks, "If we should die a sudden and miserable death, I blame Remuliad."

Remuliad softly says, "Oh bother. This is not going to go well if we are being disturbed by the local fauna."

Remuliad waves a hand at the carrion worm, shooing it off.

Leafiara amiably exclaims, "They should stay away now!"

Remuliad nods approvingly at Leafiara.

Cryheart says, "Tis sancted."

Leafiara gives an approval gesture with her hand.

Remuliad nods approvingly.

Remuliad softly says, "Wonderful, that should do well."

Cryheart says, "I hae my shield ready, just in case."

Pukk quickly ducks behind Cryheart.

Pukk says, "I'm using Cryheart as a shield."

[General] Desorceri asks, "Manafires?"

Cryheart says, "Tis fine."

Speaking to Remuliad, Raelee says, "Be careful with the fire itself. It burns mana."

Vaemyr says, "It'll burn flesh too if ya touch it."

Remuliad softly asks, "You are a skilled spiritualist, I hope. We do not need to worry about sea nymphs and worms disrupting your abjurations?" [OOC note: Heh, I missed this because Leafi was too busy replying to Desorceri's thought, so she didn't respond.]

[General] Cryheart thinks, "Aye."

Speaking to Cryheart, Pukk asks, "What can go wrong?"

Cryheart says, "Anything."

Remuliad nods.

(Raelee gazes at the green fire for several moments, as if admiring it.)

Remuliad softly says, "Yes, Magister Raelee. I will take great caution."

Remuliad softly says, "Or... did you want?..."

Remuliad glances at Raelee.

[General] Leafiara thinks, "Long story, but this entire general region has been affected by a magical plague for about four years. We never solved it fully, but managed to suppress the effects with everlasting fires that feed on mana."

Remuliad glances at a murky sludge-filled vial in his hand.

Pukk says, "She had a twinkle in her eyes."

(Raelee holds out a hand without tearing her gaze away from the fire.)

Remuliad offers Raelee a murky sludge-filled vial.

Raelee accepts Remuliad's sludge-filled vial.

Remuliad softly says, "Be careful please."

Remuliad takes a few steps back.

Speaking evenly to Remuliad, Raelee says, "I am always careful."

Remuliad nods.

(Raelee flicks a hand, and a pair of long tongs seemingly appear out of nowhere.)

Remuliad softly says, "When you are ready."

(Raelee places her vial in the grips of her tongs, then slowly inserts the vial into the flickering green flames.)

Raelee takes a moment to observe her sludge-filled vial.

Nearing the arcane flame, tiny bubbles begin to form in the murky sludge inside of the vial.

Speaking to Leafiara, Pukk says, "She is going to make smores."

Vaemyr says, "So far about the same reaction."

Raelee quietly remarks, "A standard reaction thus far, but it is early."

Continuing to remain near the arcane flames, the bubbles inside of the vial bubble more violently. Suddenly, some of the sludge spews forth from the flask!

The murky sludge in Raelee's flask begins to bubble and roil violently! Suddenly, the glass shatters and its acidic contents splatter all over Raelee!

... 35 points of damage!

Acid dissolves Raelee's right hand leaving only smoldering ruin!

She is stunned!

Raelee's skin hardens for a moment and softens the attack!

... 3 points of damage!

Raelee avoids the worst of the attack but still gets a singed forearm.

Leafiara slowly says, "Well."

Remuliad gasps.

Missoni says, "Oh dear."

Perigourd offers Raelee a squat glass tincture of effervescent ephlox.

Raelee accepts Perigourd's tincture of ephlox.

Raelee takes a drink from her tincture of ephlox.

Raelee's right hand looks better.

Perigourd offers Raelee a squat glass tincture of effervescent ephlox.

Raelee accepts Perigourd's tincture of ephlox.

Raelee takes a drink from her tincture of ephlox.

Raelee's right hand looks better.

Perigourd offers Raelee a squat glass tincture of effervescent ambrominas.

Raelee accepts Perigourd's tincture of ambrominas.

Remuliad softly exclaims, "Magister Raelee. Your hand!"

Raelee takes a drink from her tincture of ambrominas.

Raelee's right arm looks better.

Perigourd offers Raelee a squat glass tincture of effervescent sovyn.

Raelee accepts Perigourd's tincture of sovyn.

Leafiara encouragingly exclaims, "She'll be okay!"

Raelee tensely says, "It will grow back."

Raelee inhales sharply, hissing through her teeth.

Speaking quietly to Perigourd, Raelee says, "... thank you."

Speaking reassuringly to Remuliad, Missoni says, "We are always ready for such eventualities."

Speaking admiringly to Leafiara, Pukk says, "I have to say. She got burned and just kept on going."

Remuliad softly asks, "Does anyone else want to try, just to make sure it works the same way again?"

Remuliad softly says, "We could fill another vial."

Raelee retrieves a small dose of tightly bound ambrominas from within her leather herb kit.

Raelee takes a bite of her dose of ambrominas.

Raelee's right hand looks better.

Raelee retrieves a small dose of tightly bound sovyn from within her leather herb kit.

Raelee takes a bite of her dose of sovyn.

Raelee's right hand is fully restored.

Remuliad softly asks, "It is the best way to be certain. But of course, if you think this is conclusive?"

Remuliad peers quizzically at Raelee.

Leafiara helpfully encourages, "I should let someone else give it a try."

Speaking to Remuliad, Raelee says, "A data set of one is never conclusive."

Speaking to Remuliad, Missoni asks, "Do you have any reason to think the reaction will be different?"

Speaking to Cryheart, Pukk says, "You should try."

Remuliad softly says, "I have no certainty."

Missoni sighs, "I suppose I do not mind."

Raelee says, "All results must be repeated in order to prove their validity."

Lylia says, "It would not be the first time I have lost a hand doing what is needed."

Cryheart says, "I hae myklian fitted goves."

Leafiara magnanimously says, "This is time for anyone who wishes to shine."

Remuliad nods.

Missoni agrees with Lylia.

Cryheart says, "Gloves."

Speaking to Missoni, Lylia asks, "Shall we roshambo for it?"

Lylia flashes a quick grin at Missoni.

Remuliad softly says, "I could fill another vial, if we wish to return to the laboratory."

Lylia holds her hand out towards Missoni, palm upward and holding her other hand which is balled into a fist, inviting Missoni to roshambo.

Speaking to Lylia, Missoni asks, "While we have hands?"

Missoni gazes in amusement at Lylia.

Speaking to Missoni, Perigourd says, "Scissors."

Missoni and Lylia pound their fists in their open palms three times...

Missoni makes the symbol for scissors!

Lylia makes the symbol for rock!

...Lylia wins!

Lylia agrees, "Just so."

Perigourd glances at Lylia.

Perigourd snaps his fingers.

Cryheart asks, "Back to the lab?"

Speaking to Perigourd, Missoni says, "You led me astray."

Speaking to Missoni, Perigourd says, "Ah well."

Remuliad nods at Cryheart.

Speaking to Remuliad, Raelee says, "Let us do so."

Xorus says, "It might be safer to put the vial in the teeth of that carrion worm and stick the worm into the flames."

Speaking mysteriously to Missoni, Perigourd asks, "Did I?"

Cryheart says, "Ok..back to the Outpost."

Speaking helpfully to Missoni, Tikba suggests, "Betrayal."

Cryheart asks, "All ready?"

Speaking to Tikba, Missoni whispers aloud, "I will add it to the list."

Speaking to Missoni, Perigourd says, "I do enjoy your limbs."

Speaking to Leafiara, Pukk whispers aloud, "I think Peri wanted her to lose so that she won't get hurt."

Cryheart says, "Moving."

Speaking quietly to Pukk, Leafiara agrees, "No doubt!"

Missoni says, "I will strike it from the list."

Cryheart asks, "All with us?"

For no apparent reason Remuliad trips over his own feet falling flat on his face! The clumsy oaf.

>pull rem

Remuliad looks content where he is.

Remuliad moves to a kneeling position.

>attend rem

Remuliad doesn't appear to be in the mood for that sort of thing.

Remuliad stands up.

Remuliad limps around a bit, favoring one leg.

Remuliad sets about preparing himself to be as presentable as possible.

Leafiara slowly says, "Maybe we should use a familiar to get back to the manafire next time."

Cryheart says, "I forget ye walk a step slower."

Lylia whispers something to Raelee.

Remuliad softly says, "Apologies. I'm not at my best when it comes to walking."

Remuliad softly says, "Not since my captivity. Bodohal maimed me to keep me from escaping."

Cryheart says, "Sorry to hear that."

Missoni mutters, "Wretched man."

Lylia says, "Savages often do this to important captives, such as smiths."

Remuliad softly says, "But that is another story, we should see if our results are conclusive."

Pukk says, "You should have Leafi craft some new shoes for you. It will make a huge difference."

Remuliad turns to face a translucent dark glaes vat.

Remuliad grabs a clear glass vial from his sack.

Remuliad slowly dips his vial in the acidic green goo, filling it most of the way with the murky sludge.

Remuliad nods.

Cryheart asks, "Ok..back we go to the mana fires?"

Remuliad softly says, "I believe this should be enough. About the same as last time."

Lylia says, "Hm. 'About' the same."

Remuliad softly says, "Yes, it looks about the same. Let us go."

[travel]

[Coastal Cliffs]

As the wind picks up speed it wails through the chasms in the cliff rock, sounding eerily like the cry of a woman in distress. You also see a sea nymph, a crackling sickly-green fire, a black-whorled ashen bone pillar and a steep path.

Remuliad suddenly stumbles for no apparent reason.

Cryheart says, "Up ye go."

Cryheart says, "Sorry..rocky path."

Remuliad softly says, "Very well. This will either go the same way as before, or drastically different."

Remuliad softly asks, "Would anyone like to do the honors?"

Kelfyr says, "Yep, those are the two options."

Leafiara says, "I believe Lylia won the roshambo."

Remuliad nods in agreement.

Vaemyr says, ""Won"."

Missoni agrees, "She did."

Lylia dryly remarks, "'Won.'."

Vaemyr smirks at Lylia.

Lylia flashes a quick grin at Vaemyr.

(Raelee offers Lylia a long pair of steel tongs.)

Raelee nods faintly at Lylia.

Lylia nods appreciatively at Raelee.

Remuliad softly says, "Yes, just be careful not to throw it or toss it somewhere on accident."

Remuliad softly asks, "Are your hands steady, as well as your nerves?"

Lylia primly says, "I do very little by accident."

Lylia says, "Yes."

Remuliad softly says, "You are not a Magister, so I am not certain of your skill with such things."

Remuliad softly says, "This is not a novelty to be taken lightly."

(Lylia snaps the tongs in her hand with a resounding clack.)

Remuliad glances at Raelee.

Remuliad glances about with a look of concern on his face.

Lylia replies, "I have been schooled in the Clerisy sufficiently."

Speaking to Remuliad, Raelee says, "I trust her skill."

Remuliad nods approvingly.

Remuliad softly says, "Very well."

Lylia smiles quietly to herself.

Lylia nods at Raelee.

Remuliad offers Lylia a murky sludge-filled vial.

Lylia accepts Remuliad's sludge-filled vial.

Remuliad softly asks, "Oh, what is your name?"

Remuliad softly says, "In case the outpost needs to write your epitaph, of course."

(Lylia carefully fits the vial into her tongs, seating it so the lip is set above the curved metal rim.)

Remuliad softly says, "We will pay for it, if something goes horribly wrong."

Lylia says, "Ah, Lylia Rashere."

Lylia lets out a long, contemplative breath.

Speaking to Remuliad, Lylia asks, "And you wish the vial to be held in the flame, as before, yes?"

Speaking to Remuliad, Raelee mentions, "A previous mayor of Wehnimer's Landing."

Remuliad softly says, "The same as before."

Remuliad softly says, "That is correct, Lylia Rashere."

Remuliad takes a moment to observe Lylia.

Pukk says, "I think you have to do it exactly like Raelee. If you do something different it might change something."

Remuliad nods in agreement.

(Lylia moves the vial to the flickering green flames, bringing the base of it to the same point Raelee did earlier. Her hands are steady, although her expression is tense.)

Nearing the arcane flame, tiny bubbles begin to form in the murky sludge inside of the vial.

Raelee says, "Consistent, thus far."

Missoni observes, "Small bubbles."

Continuing to remain near the arcane flames, the bubbles inside of the vial bubble more violently. Suddenly, some of the sludge spews forth from the flask!

(Lylia meets Xorus's eyes.)

Remuliad ducks his head.

Leafiara thoughtfully observes, "So far the same..."

The murky sludge in Lylia's flask begins to bubble and roil violently! Suddenly, the glass shatters and its acidic contents splatter all over Lylia!

... 25 points of damage!

Excruciating pain as back of hand is dissolved!

She is stunned!

... 15 points of damage!

Spray of acid eats into the right hip!

Lylia closes her eyes for a moment.

Pukk says, "Yep. Exactly the same."

Perigourd offers Lylia a squat glass tincture of effervescent pothinir.

Lylia accepts Perigourd's tincture of pothinir.

Lylia nods appreciatively at Perigourd.

Lylia takes a drink from her tincture of pothinir.

Lylia's abdomen looks better.

Remuliad softly exclaims, "Oh. This is wonderful! I mean. You were almost melted by acid! But yes!"

Speaking to Remuliad, Raelee says, "Ideally, I would prefer another dozen trials at least. Though, I suspect that will not be agreed to."

Leafiara optimistically notes, "This one only dissolved most of her hand instead of all of it."

Lylia takes a bite of her dose of ephlox.

Lylia's right hand looks better.

Speaking to Remuliad, Raelee says, "This sample size, small as it is, is at least showing a pattern."

Lylia takes a bite of her dose of basal.

Lylia's abdomen looks better.

Lylia takes a bite of her dose of ambrominas.

Lylia's right hand looks better.

Remuliad nods in agreement at Raelee.

Lylia takes a drink from her tincture of wingstem.

Lylia's abdomen looks better.

Lylia says, "I have endured worse."

Speaking to Leafiara, Missoni says, "One must expect some variation in the splash."

Cryheart says, "Consistency means reliability."

Lylia takes a bite of her dose of calamia.

Lylia's right hand looks better.

(Lylia gives Raelee a quick but meaningful glance.)

Lylia takes a drink from her tincture of talneo.

Lylia's abdomen looks better.

Remuliad softly says, "There was a stronger, more violent reaction near this fire."

Lylia takes a bite of her dose of cactacae.

Lylia's right hand looks better.

Pukk says, "All that blood probably got Xorus excited."

Remuliad softly says, "We should note this on the blackboard."

Lylia whispers something to Xorus.

Remuliad softly asks, "Are you going to be alright? Lylia Rashere?"

Remuliad softly exclaims, "You have done very well!"

Remuliad nods enthusiastically!

Speaking to Remuliad, Lylia replies, "You may call me Lylia in the interests of saving time. And yes."

Lylia says, "The memory of pain lasts longer than the pain."

Normal Acid and the Manafire

Speaking slowly to Remuliad, Raelee says, "... we are lacking a control. The reaction was more violent, but we do not know if the mote activity is the reason. It could simply be a matter of how acid reacts to this fire as opposed to the samples."

Pukk asks, "I know there are different types of mana right? Some are good at controlling elemental and some spiritual. Has anybody tried who is good with mental mana?"

Leafiara muses, "So true."

Remuliad bows to Lylia.

Desorceri asks, "Do the vials always shatter in your testing?"

Tikba says, "It may simply be a result of the manafire itself."

Speaking to Desorceri, Missoni says, "So far, yes."

Lylia nods respectfully at Remuliad.

Remuliad softly says, "The Hall of Mages appreciates your assistance."

Speaking to Desorceri, Missoni says, "But we have only tested two."

Speaking to Raelee, Perigourd asks, "So test a regular vial of acid?"

Desorceri asks, "Are they even tempered?"

Remuliad softly says, "Oh. We could test a regular vial of acid, if anyone has one."

Kelfyr asks, "Well, it'd need to be a number of specimens dissolved in acid not from that region, to be a true control, would it not?"

A clear glass vial of light yellow acid seemingly floats up out of Pukk's spidersilk backpack and into his waiting hand.

Remuliad indicates a crackling sickly-green fire as a possible option.

Pukk offers Remuliad a clear glass vial of light yellow acid.

Speaking to Desorceri, Missoni admits, "I am not sure where the magister procured the vials."

Raelee says, "Yes, that."

Remuliad declines Pukk's offer.

Pukk says, "I have a bunch."

Remuliad grins at Pukk.

Remuliad softly says, "Go ahead and test it."

Speaking amusedly to Pukk, Leafiara says, "I think you might have just volunteered yourself."

Remuliad nods at Pukk.

Pukk says, "Oh wait."

Pukk flails his arms about.

Pukk says, "No."

Speaking to Pukk, Vaemyr says, "Go ahead."

Cryheart says, "Ye can do it."

Speaking thoughtfully to herself, Leafiara considers, "Whew, good thing I didn't offer my acid first."

Pukk flails his arms about.

Cryheart says, "We hae faith."

Speaking to Pukk, Vaemyr says, "I believe in your reflexes."

Cryheart says, "Go Pukk, go."

Speaking encouragingly to Pukk, Tikba asks, "What is the worst that could happen?"

Pukk says, "Okay."

Pukk asks, "Where are those tongs?"

Speaking to Tikba, Raelee says, "Extensive acid burns."

Pukk shrugs.

Speaking optimistically to Pukk, Leafiara offers, "It's just normal acid without dissolved plants and bugs full of Reach energy. Can't be that bad!"

Cryheart says, "Ye hae some black leather gloves."

Tikba uncertainly says, "Normal acid is also dangerous."

(Pukk moves the acid vial slowly towards the fire, keeping a tense face but his body shivering.)

Remuliad softly says, "It would be good to know if normal acid reacts this way to such a fire."

Lylia helpfully suggests, "Think of it as a warm cup of cocoa."

Remuliad nods in agreement.

(Pukk places the vial close to the area where Lylia and Raelee placed theirs.)

Speaking to Lylia, Raelee says, "Cocoa contamination would add an additional variable we would need to test around."

Nearing the arcane flame, tiny bubbles begin to form in the yellow acid inside of the vial.

Desorceri says, "I'd imagine vials from traps are too delicate."

Pukk says, "I have a good feeling."

Missoni observes, "Small bubbles, once more."

Pukk glances at a clear glass vial of light yellow acid in his hand.

Pukk squints.

Pukk asks, "Nothing?"

Pukk says, "I guess that answers that question."

Leafiara hopefully says, "Maybe it needs time."

Continuing to remain near the arcane flames, the bubbles inside of the vial react more violently. They bubble, and bubble, and bubble, but nothing else seems to happen.

Xorus says, "I would like to see how lye burns hands in contrast to how acid burns them."

Pukk beams!

Pukk exclaims, "See! Nothing to worry about!"

Vaemyr says, "Seems no explosion."

Cryheart says, "There ye go."

Pukk exclaims, "I was never worried!"

Speaking admiringly to Pukk, Leafiara exclaims, "Hero Pukk!"

Speaking to Pukk, Tikba commends, "Good work."

Pukk glances at a clear glass vial of light yellow acid in his hand.

Pukk drops a clear glass vial of light yellow acid.

Missoni thoughtfully says, "It seems the motes are making the reaction more volatile."

Cryheart says, "We had faith in ye."

Pukk abruptly kicks at a clear glass vial of light yellow acid!

Pukk quickly ducks behind Cryheart.

Pukk exclaims, "All clear!"

Speaking to Pukk, Lylia says, "Good work."

Speaking to Missoni, Perigourd says, "Perhaps the motes are collecting the mana the fires bleed off."

Pukk nods in agreement.

Pukk says, "I was confident that it would be okay."

Speaking to Pukk, Lylia says, "I noticed you were careful to hold the vial in the same place within the flames."

Remuliad softly says, "There does seem to be an adverse reaction to these fires in particular."

Speaking to Lylia, Pukk says, "I was worried about losing a finger."

Speaking to Remuliad, Raelee says, "Which leads to the question of what that actually means."

Lylia says, "Sometimes we do what we must to learn."

Cryheart says, "Which means you still hae nine fingers."

Recorded Results

Remuliad softly says, "We should return to the laboratory and note it on the blackboard, the hour is late and I must rest soon."

'Remuliad nods in agreement at Raelee.

Vaemyr says, "My theory is it's more likely the motes themselves are what is reacting violently, and thus in their... destruction in the mana fires they explode and cause the violent spill of the acid itself."

Cryheart says, "Back to the Outpost lab then."

Cryheart asks, "All set?"

Cryheart says, "Moving out."

[travel]

Remuliad softly asks, "The outside of your town is quite nice. Is it as nice on the inside?"

Remuliad softly says, "I have not had much time to look around."

Lylia says, "Some of it is, yes."

Vaemyr says, "Some of the time it is."

Tikba says, "It is a pleasant town. Some parts are more pleasant than others, but we do what we can."

Remuliad softly says, "The last time I went out for a walk, two kobolds knocked me over and laughed before one of them killed the other on accident."

Cryheart says, "That happens a lot."

Remuliad softly says, "Quite tragic, really."

Remuliad softly asks, "Does it?"

Cryheart nods at Remuliad.

Pukk says, "Must be Yardies friends."

Cryheart says, "I hae seen it as well."

Raelee erases a message from a wide wood-framed blackboard.

Missoni whispers something to Raelee.

Tikba calmly says, "Perhaps the kobolds prefer it thus."

Remuliad dips his fingers into the wash basin and vigorously scrubs his hands clean.

Lylia dismissively says, "Kobolds breed incessantly and die as easily as fireflies, but with less beauty in the dying."

Speaking softly to Raelee, Remuliad asks, "Would you like to write the results of tonight's experiment on the blackboard?"

Raelee nods faintly at Remuliad.

Remuliad nods approvingly.

Remuliad softly says, "If anyone has thoughts on the results, we can discuss this."

Remuliad softly says, "You know more about the Reach than I do, certainly."

Vaemyr says, "Well... it seems that the theory that at least some of the local fauna and flora are absorbing some of the motes has strong evidence of being true."

Remuliad softly says, "Considering the source of what we tested, of course."

Tikba says, "The motes seem to react poorly to the mana fires."

Speaking to Tikba, Leafiara muses, "Or react well, depending how one looks at it..."

Missoni says, "Ah, well, I was just positing that perhaps if someone were absorbing the mana at the Reach, a reaction much like the one we saw might be occuring in the mana they were using. But perhaps not so strongly, as they are not directly next to the fire."

Raelee writes something on a wide wood-framed blackboard.

Lylia suggests, "'Poorly' may be ambiguous."

Remuliad softly says, "I have not actually seen what happens when a mote in its actual form of a mote contacts such a fire."

Lylia says, "More reactive than the control."

Speaking to Remuliad, Raelee says, "I want to."

Raelee runs her cloth-wrapped hands through her copper red hair, momentarily drawing her long tresses from her snow white eyes.

Speaking to Remuliad, Missoni says, "It would be nice to take the acid out of the experiment, somehow."

Missoni asks, "Could we trap a mote?"

Raelee says, "The mana fires burn mana in order to remove that mana as a source of fuel for the blight."

Lylia says, "What infused the acid Raelee and I were handed for the experiments? I arrived a bit later than expected."

Leafiara ponders, "Hmm.. so either set up yet another manafire or somehow guide the motes...?"

Stormyrain asks, "How did you confirm there were motes in the samples, and that the motes transferred to the goo?"

Speaking to Lylia, Missoni says, "Insects and plants collected during a storm."

Lylia says, "That was precisely my thought."

Lylia says, "Ah, excellent."

Raelee continues, "One might hypothesize that the motes carry mana, and perhaps present it in a different form than what we typically find in the region ambiently."

Raelee continues, "... thus, the reaction that is the burning of the mana is more violent."

Remuliad softly asks, "Beyond the reaction between the motes and the fires. What was the point of doing the experiment?"

Lylia says, "So, wildlife imbued with this essence, reduced to ichor and compounded with acid, was more reactive when exposed to the flames than a control vial of acid."

Speaking to Remuliad, Missoni says, "To see if the motes were being absorbed into the flora and fauna of the region and altering it, somehow."

Speaking to Remuliad, Perigourd says, "To test whether or not the motes are absorbed into living tissues, I'd think."

Missoni adds, "Which they do seem to be."

Speaking to Remuliad, Raelee says, "I would describe the purpose as seeking evidence of a link between the mana fires and the 'sickness' on the Reach."

Speaking to Remuliad, Raelee says, "I do not think this proves any causality, but it offers... a thread to pursue."

Stormyrain asks, "Have we tried a control of wildlife not imbued with this essence? To assure it's the essence and not the addition of life to the acid that creates the reaction?"

Tikba says, "We have found a reaction. It may not be a link."

Remuliad softly asks, "I thought you had a friend who was in trouble. The motes are not connected to this one you called Rodnay?"

Speaking to Remuliad, Vaemyr says, "I mean it does provide strong evidence that the motes are having chances on the environment, and not just temporary occurances as well."

Lylia says, "And by extension, perhaps the 'sickness' that was the Blight. Which, by the way, may still be present and only forestalled by the flames."

Perigourd says, "If the insects are absorbing energy from the motes, Rodnay must be too."

Kayse says, "Rodnay is in trouble."

Speaking to Remuliad, Leafiara agrees, "Yes, this all relates to him too."

Tikba says, "We do not know whether the motes are connected to Rodnay."

Lylia notes, "If the local flora and fauna are, then we may be as well. We are also fauna, of a sort."

Vaemyr says, "Aye it is very likely that every time the motes occur, Rodnay also absorbs significant portions of... whatever they are."

Speaking to Remuliad, Raelee asks, "There is a trite statment regarding chickens and eggs, no? For when one cannot illustrate whether one phenomenon causes the other, or perhaps the inverse?"

Tikba says, "Then Iliyaas must have absorbed great quantities of motes, as well."

Speaking to Vaemyr, Perigourd says, "It may also be that his abilites expose him to a reaction from the fires at a greater distance than the acid."

Speaking absently to Tikba, Leafiara says, "That's an interesting point..."

Remuliad nods at Raelee.

Stormyrain repeats, "Have we tried a control of wildlife not imbued with this essence? To assure it's the essence and not the addition of life to the acid that creates the reaction?"

Xorus says, "Perhaps we should melt Iliyaas in acid and set her in flames."

Remuliad softly says, "That is possible, Magister Raelee."

Raelee says, "Rodnay is unwell. The mote events are occurring. Incurions from... elsewhere... are occuring. Thus the question is, which of these are causes and which of these are symptoms."

Speaking to Xorus, Stormyrain says, "Interesting concept."

Speaking to Stormyrain, Raelee says, "The control thus far is simple acid."

Remuliad softly asks, "Does anyone know of how these motes are associated with Rodnay, or if they are?"

Remuliad softly asks, "What do we know about him?"

Speaking to Xorus, Lylia says, "For a moment I misheard you and thought you said '..melt Lylia in acid.' I was beginning to wonder whose side you are on."

Speaking to Remuliad, Leafiara says, "That's the question... and unknown if they're from him or separate, as Raelee was getting at."

Speaking to Stormyrain, Pukk asks, "So you think if we find a puppy somewhere that isn't from around here we can try it instead?"

[General] Platio asks, "Ever have a day that the horses wont stop kicking you across the stables?"

Speaking to Raelee, Stormyrain asks, "Just so, if we are surmising that the wildlife absorbing the motes is the cause of the reaction, finding wildlife that has not been exposed may tell us for sure if that is the case..or if it's simply the addition of living material to the acid that causes the issue, no?"

Speaking to Remuliad, Raelee says, "There is strong correlation between Rodnay's current condition and the motes, but the nature of the causality is unclear."

Tikba says, "Rodnay says that he is under attack, within the Reach."

Speaking to Pukk, Stormyrain says, "I think there are bugs from Icemule, or Solhaven, or even further that have not been impacted by the motes."

Tikba says, "The motes may be a product of that attack. We cannot say."

Missoni says, "He has mentioned being ill, and seemed to indicate the fires."

Speaking to Lylia, Xorus says, "But that was already done, and we would never wish to be unoriginal."

Stormyrain offers, "And flora as well."

Speaking to Stormyrain, Pukk says, "Puppies and kittens too."

Speaking to Stormyrain, Raelee says, "I agree. The experiment needs additional trials to be considered complete."

Leafiara says, "The motes could be a product of whatever's attacking Rodnay or could be a product of his own, perhaps losing control of his power to an extent..."

Remuliad softly says, "Perhaps we need to understand the relationship between Rodnay and the motes more clearly."

Speaking to Remuliad, Raelee says, "We do."

Leafiara tilts her head at Raelee.

Pukk asks, "Didn't that bleakstone start all of this?"

Lylia says, "He is markedly reluctant to express what is happening to him in words, instead using sensation and images."

Speaking to Leafiara, Raelee says, "We do need to understand more."

Speaking to Raelee, Vaemyr says, "I would also like to test, the reaction of the motes on extraplanar magic, since there are some theories they are related."

Pukk asks, "That statue?"

Raelee adds, "... to clarify."

Speaking understandingly to Raelee, Leafiara says, "Ahh."

Remuliad nods in agreement.

Speaking to Pukk, Leafiara says, "The blight started with it, yes..."

Pukk asks, "Maybe if we can get a sliver of that statue and test it out?"

Leafiara says, "Or, I suppose... more like Raznel's magic started it all, then the statue was used as the initial catalyst."

Lylia nods at Leafiara.

Lylia says, "That is far more precise, yes."

Speaking wryly to Pukk, Leafiara says, "Would just need to convince Octaven."

Speaking to Leafiara, Pukk asks, "That statue was made from bleakstone right?"

Lylia says, "Yes."

Leafiara exclaims, "Yep!"

Pukk asks, "Maybe that has some properties or something that can be looked at?"

Speaking to Leafiara, Tikba says, "Octaven could indeed be of great help."

Lylia says, "One issue with getting a sliver of it -- it now houses an entity from the Bleaklands."

Lylia adds, "And we do not have the statue. Octaven presumably does."

Lylia says, "So, two issues."

Tikba thoughtfully says, "It is unfortunate that we did not bring anything back from the Bleaklands."

Lylia says, "Three, if you count my deep desire not to see it defaced."

Leafiara says, "Not sure if anyone has any large chunks of bleakstone besides her at this point... and Lylia's also right, now there's a bleakwalker inside it that could interfere with any results or experiments."

Vaemyr asks, "Perhaps if and when some of us have a chance to return to the bleaklands, since we know portals have been opening above the reach, we can collect some samples to bring back and test with?"

Kelfyr says, "I mean, Bleaklands Thadston seemed like he wanted to come with."

Kelfyr says, "He was headed in our direction."

Raelee absently mentions, "At least as it relates to the Blight, the statue is thought to be inert at this point."

Speaking to Leafiara, Pukk says, "As Raelee would say. Before we test a sliver of the statue we would need a control. So a sliver of some bleakstone that wasn't a part of the statue."

Lylia says, "And was thought to be so from the moment it was placed. The blight was already enacted at that point."

Speaking to Vaemyr, Leafiara says, "Samples of... what? Bleakstone isn't exactly abundant there."

Raelee adds, "... and we have opened the portal chamber in this laboratory to carry us to the Bleaklands before."

Speaking to Pukk, Leafiara agrees, "I'm with you."

Raelee dryly says, "And it is not that far of a walk."

Speaking to Leafiara, Pukk exclaims, "Oh. I'm not going there!"

Speaking to Leafiara, Vaemyr says, "Bleakstone would certainly be helpful, but even samples of dirt and other items that have been exposed there for a long period of time could be useful in experimenting with."

Speaking to Remuliad, Raelee asks, "Is there anything else to add?"

Tikba says, "Perhaps we must find a way to isolate the motes themselves, as Missoni suggested."

Speaking to Vaemyr, Leafiara acknowledges, "I suppose that's true... Praxopius was able to determine some things about the Bleaklands just from a soil sample."

Lylia says, "You would probably need specialized glassware to contain them."

Remuliad softly says, "That seems sufficient for our tests this evening."

Speaking to Leafiara, Pukk asks, "Have you noticed how happy Raelee looks when she is writing on that blackboard?"

Speaking to Vaemyr, Leafiara adds, "...well, assuming he wasn't making up everything he said."

Remuliad softly says, "Thank you, Magister Raelee."

Cryheart nods at Remuliad.

Inititial results - When insects and various flora collecting during an episode of 'mote' activity are dissolved in an acidic solution and are then exposed to fires, both standard and 'mana fires', the mana fire produces a notably more violent reaction.
Additional control trials are required, to expose flora and fauna not exposed to the motes to the mana fires.
Additional research is also required to better understand the relationship between the current condition of the subject 'Rodnay' and the 'mote' events.

Raelee nods slowly at Remuliad.

Speaking cautiously to Remuliad, Raelee says, "... yes, of course."

Speaking to Lylia, Missoni says, "Something to trap and preserve it."

Speaking to Missoni, Lylia says, "We may call upon that expertise you have, then."

Speaking to Lylia, Missoni says, "I am sure I could fashion something."

Remuliad softly says, "I am going to seal the dilute we made tonight, and preserve it for any future experiments we may wish to conduct."

Remuliad softly says, "We should find bugs and flora from places not influenced by the Reach, as Magister Raelee has written on the blackboard."

Tikba says, "It is a beginning. We must hope that it will lead to aiding Rodnay."

Remuliad softly asks, "That should be easy enough, yes?"

Missoni agrees, "I shall bring some from Vornavis."

Remuliad softly says, "That seems it would be far enough away."

Remuliad nods in agreement at Missoni.

Missoni smiles.

Kelfyr says, "Some samples from below the Dragonspine on the same date of the other sampling were provided."

Pukk says, "Well, since we are not going to blow up anything. I'm going to go and get some sleep."

Remuliad softly says, "Very well. I will go see to the vat."

Remuliad softly says, "Thank you all again, for your assistance this evening."

Magister Remuliad just limped northeast.

Idle Chatter

[OOC note: This is about 20-30 minutes later. The crowd is pretty small partly because it was very late (weather started at 2:23 AM) and partly because many thought it was over after Remuliad left.]

[Courtyard]

A well maintained and healthy garden occupies the entirety of the courtyard. The air here is cool and crisp, but the bulk of the monastery shelters you from wind and makes the air bracing instead of chilling. In the center of the garden is a natural spring bubbling up several inches above the surface of the encircling pool of crystal clear water. A large stone and iron gate blocks the entrance to the monastery flanked by a statue of a woman carrying a crystal staff and a set of crystalline keys facing a second statue of a kneeling young man bedecked in battle-worn black chain armor. You also see the palm frond-shaped Leafiara disk, a large fel tree and a scorched black marble bench with some stuff on it.

The sky begins to fill with huge clouds, dark and grey on the bottom, pale and white atop, their puffy crowns ascending toward the heavens.

[travel]

[Town Square Central] This is the heart of the main square of Wehnimer's Landing. The impromptu shops of the bazaar are clustered around this central gathering place, where townsfolk, travellers, and adventurers meet to talk, conspire or raise expeditions to the far-flung reaches of Elanith. At the north end, an old well, with moss-covered stones and a craggy roof, is shaded from the moonlight by a strong, robust tree. The oak is tall and straight, and it is apparent that the roots run deep. You also see the Dalzashel disk, the Takaeshi disk, the Kelfyr disk, the Stormyrain disk, a grizzled porcupine, the Falleria disk, a pale-faced coppery barn owl, an old well, some wide stone benches with some stuff on it, an herbal remedy donation bin and a round silver-banded barrel.

Town Councilor Vaemyr just arrived.

Vaemyr glances at Leafiara and yawns.

Speaking amusedly to Vaemyr, Leafiara asks, "What, were you secretly hoping for elementals?"

Speaking to Leafiara, Vaemyr says, "I was secretly hoping to be in bed right now."

Speaking wryly to Vaemyr, Kiyna says, "You can go get some sleep if you like. The elderly need their rest."

Tikba just arrived.

Tikba scowls and mutters for a moment, looking rather trod upon.

Speaking to Tikba, Kiyna asks, "Something the matter?"

Tikba wryly says, "I did not have the opportunity to make my prayers."

Speaking to Tikba, Kiyna asks, "Surely the breakdown - the destruction - of your prayer time is also a form of worship?"

Speaking thoughtfully to Kiyna, Leafiara ponders, "Huh, that's an interesting point."

Awaiting Alendrial

[General] Alendrial thinks, "Good evening, Wehnimer's Landing."

Jaffrey says, "A pleasure as usual."

[General] Leafiara cheerfully greets, "Good eve!"

Kiyna says, "I'm just saying, you destroy something every moment you are alive. Opportunities to do other things, mostly. I'd probably be easily pleased if I were Marlu."

Leafiara happily says, "Oh, Mayor Alendrial's about."

[General] Kayse casually thinks, "Mayor, fair evening."

[General] Kiyna thinks, "Evening, Mayor."

Speaking amusedly to Kiyna, Tikba says, "I will mention your views to him."

[General] Alendrial thinks, "We'll meet in the Council Chambers soon, as my office is, well, not yet finished. I am told someone is meeting with us this evening."

[General] Vaemyr thinks, "Good evening Mayor."

[General] Chandrellia exclaims, "Good eve Mayor!"

Earthdiver says, "To live is to destroy."

Leafiara exclaims, "Onward to the Council Chambers!"

Leafiara recites:

"Join if ya don't know where those are!"

Leafiara recites:

"Or if ya just want to!"

[General] Dwi slyly thinks, "Dat sumpbody inbestigatin how many times I boted fer ye?"

Speaking to Leafiara, Chandrellia says, "I do, I just like watching you lead."

Leafiara amusedly says, "Oh, that's a good one, Dwi."

[travel]

[Moot Hall, Council Chamber]

A rich merlot carpet stretches from end to end of this large, spacious chamber, which is aglow from the moonlight shining in through several arched windows along an entire wall. Large, verdant green plants rest in terra cotta vases in each corner of the room, and the walls are decorated with detailed paintings of nearby historical landmarks. A circular table sits in the center of the room, surrounded by several wooden chairs. You also see the Kelfyr disk, a grizzled porcupine, an antagonistic wasteland spirit that is flying around, a flame-eyed burnished ember fox, a pink oak door, a polished red cedar door, a reinforced oak door, an ivory-washed birch door and a wide burnished oak archway.

Also here: Whimweaver Leafiara, Kelfyr, Xorus, Tikba, Town Councilor Kayse, Town Councilor Kiyna, Town Councilor Vaemyr

Chandrellia, Emperia and Earthdiver followed.

Leafiara muses, "Wonder if it'll be Elidal, Aronia, Enisius, or someone else entirely..."

Speaking wryly to Leafiara, Tikba says, "Elidal has an Emissary he has appointed for such meetings."

Speaking suddenly to Tikba, Leafiara says, "Oh, that's a good idea too."

Kayse lightly says, "Tikba suggested the zrissantha."

Speaking to Leafiara, Vaemyr says, "Hmm... gonna go on the crazy side and guess Tyrrax."

Leafiara says, "Although... hmm.... this seems like something Elidal would want to address himself."

Chandrellia says, "Oh this shuld be fun then."

[General] Nalver thinks, "Have you tried one upping the last mayor? Throw a table through a wall."

Vaemyr says, "Maybe Beldrin, or maybe she's decided on a new Steward of the Coffers and introducing them."

Chandrellia says, "I just hope it isnt Amos."

Chandrellia says, "I already have a headache."

Vaemyr says, "Could be, but I feel he would prefer to just announce a meeting with us rather than go through Alendrial."

Speaking to Vaemyr, Chandrellia says, "Yeah, he isnt much with formalities."

Vaemyr says, "And probably meet in the Consortium Headquarters."

Speaking to Vaemyr, Leafiara says, "Sounds about right."

Speaking to Vaemyr, Leafiara says, "You know, if we had more time, your Tyrrax option could be a huge payoff in a betting pool."

Kayse casually says, "The last couple times I have met Amos in public has actually been here or my office."

Nalver just came through a wide burnished oak archway.

Nalver says, "Ah."

The eonake appendage on Nalver's belt comes to life, making a waving motion at Leafiara.

[General] Leafiara explains, "Oh, if anyone doesn't know where the council chambers are... we're in Moot Hall, up the stairs, east to the end of the hall, then through the archway."

Speaking to Nalver, Chandrellia says, "If your appendage waves at me, I'll rip it off."

Chandrellia giggles.

Kiyna says, "Let's see... maybe it's Drazinoth. Back again and with a new pitch for Arachne that will definitely work this time."

Speaking to Kiyna, Vaemyr exclaims, "No... you don't understand, you should WANT to be eaten from the inside out by tiny spiders, it's an honor!"

[General] Nalver thinks, "I'm just here to see things get thrown since I assume..."

Speaking to Goldstr, Nalver asks, "What moons are out?"

Speaking to Nalver, Goldstr says, "Da First Drake be a shin soon."

Out through a window, a red glow can be seen in the sky, small at first them blossoming as it seems to wash over the town and then diminishes before it disappears into Darkstone Bay.

Chandrellia asks, "Red glow?"

Glatoph Phenomenon

Mayor Alendrial just came through a wide burnished oak archway.

Kayse says, "That happened earlier too."

Leafiara offhandedly says, "Those have been going on for a bit now..."

Nairena says, "Pretty."

You see Mayor Alendrial DeArchon.

She appears to be a Half-Elf.

She is very tall and slender. She appears to be youthful. She has beguiling coral blue eyes and flawless ivory skin. She has loosely curled, chin-length champagne brown hair. She has dainty ears that taper to a slight point.

She is in good shape.

She is wearing a silk-lined black leather longcloak, a fireleaf-inlaid elven thigh sheath, a pintucked pewter linen blouse tucked into black leather vambraces, a cutwork leather corset with niello clasp, an embossed leather belt looped twice around its mithril buckle, a hip-slung ashen leather kit, some soft doeskin breeches, and a pair of cross-tied black oilcloth boots with ridged leather soles.

Vaemyr says, "We've seen that several times, beams of red light from Glatoph heading toward the bay."

Nairena asks, "Whats going on here?"

Speaking to Alendrial, Vaemyr says, "Evening Mayor."

Alendrial asks, "Red light?"

Speaking to Nairena, Leafiara says, "We're about to find out."

Alendrial says, "And good evening."

Speaking to Alendrial, Chandrellia says, "Seems to be, it disapeared into Darkstone Bay."

Kelfyr says, "Outside."

Speaking to Alendrial, Goldstr says, "Evenin to ye Mayor."

Speaking to Alendrial, Vaemyr says, "Beams of red light or energy from somewhere on glatoph that travel to somewhere in the bay."

Speaking to Alendrial, Vaemyr says, "Been going on a couple months now."

Alendrial says, "Ah yes, there have been reports of that. Even during the day."

Alendrial asks, "Months?"

Alendrial frowns.

Leafiara says, "Indeed..."

Vaemyr says, "Some people have investigated, but found nothing of note."

Alendrial asks, "We should have patrols on the Glatoph. Has a full search been conducted before I took over?"

Alendrial nods.

Alendrial frowns.

Speaking to Alendrial, Kelfyr says, "Its fullness is debatable, but searches have been conducted."

Chandrellia says, "A full search, I dont believe so."

Leafiara considers, "I... suppose that depends how much Enisius' research team has done."

Vaemyr says, "Glatoph is however large, it could be coming from an area outside the usual paths."

Alendrial says, "I am sorry to keep you all here so late. We're awaiting a visitor, who brought to me an important message they wished to share."

Elections

Speaking to Alendrial, Kelfyr says, "While we wait, congratulations on your election."

Alendrial bows to Kelfyr.

Alendrial says, "Thank you."

Leafiara abruptly exclaims, "Oh, yes, our manners... congratulations indeed!"

Speaking embarrassedly to Alendrial, Chandrellia says, "Yes, indeed, congrats."

Alendrial says, "The elections have not ended it seems. It's a very busy summer for Wehnimer's politics."

Alendrial nods at Kelfyr.

Alendrial nods at Tikba.

Speaking to Alendrial, Chandrellia says, "I am thankful I will not be in the running."

Tikba grins at Alendrial.

Tikba nods in agreement at Alendrial.

Kelfyr says, "It's a town endeared to its ballot boxes."

Alendrial says, "And council soon..."

Tikba amusedly says, "And after the envoys will come the councilors."

Speaking to Alendrial, Kiyna says, "My congratulations has already been sent - paperwork requiring your signature. I know how excited you are. There's more where that came from."

Kayse furtively glances at Alendrial.

Alendrial asks, "Are you campaigning again?"

Alendrial peers quizzically at Kayse.

Alendrial peers quizzically at Kiyna.

Alendrial peers quizzically at Vaemyr.

Alendrial begins chuckling at Kiyna!

Alendrial says, "I am not new to paperwork."

Vaemyr says, "Still pondering up till the last moment I think."

Alendrial says, "Surprisingly, there seems less as Mayor than Steward."

Vaemyr chuckles.

Alendrial says, "Poor Beldrin."

Speaking confidently to Alendrial, Kayse says, "I will be, yes."

Kiyna says, "I will not be running again. Not right now."

Kiyna shakes her head.

Speaking to Leafiara, Chandrellia says, "You know, I think I can get used to meeting like this, no bellowing, or throwing of furniture. I could get used to this."

Speaking to Chandrellia, Nairena says, "Boring."

Speaking to Nairena, Chandrellia says, "I prefer calm."

Leafiara diplomatically says, "A refreshing change of pace."

Speaking to Alendrial, Kayse adds, "Provided Wehnimer's wishes me to hold office again, we will see."

Speaking to Chandrellia, Vaemyr says, "I have no idea what I'm gonna do with the supply closet of spare chairs."

Speaking to Vaemyr, Chandrellia says, "Could always hold a Thadston Day, see what citizen can throw a chair the farthest."

[General] Markx asks, "Everyone see that streak of red energy?"

[General] Leafiara agrees, "We did see it!"

Tikba amusedly says, "We must see if the ballistae may be rigged to fire chairs."

Vaemyr says, "I... don't think that would work very effectively."

Vaemyr says, "Perhaps if the Mayor likes some of the proposals left over from Thadston's Desk, then they could be used for a new building or two."

Speaking to Alendrial, Goldstr asks, "If I may ask, der be a position fer Sir Andrews to hold?"

Alendrial says, "I do not think he wishes to hold one, truth be told."

Alendrial nods at Goldstr.

Goldstr says, "Ah."

Goldstr nods at Alendrial.

Tikba says, "His position is citizen of the Landing."

Kelfyr says, "The man has earned the space to exhale, if he so desires."

Leafiara agrees, "A refreshing change of pace for him too."

Kiyna says, "Many of our positions are elected and not appointed, besides."

Tikba says, "It is a difficult job, but he is suited to it."

Alendrial says, "I think it chained and caged the man more than he thought it would."

Speaking to Alendrial, Vaemyr says, "Any thoughts on a new steward of the coffers? I wouldn't want us to have a repeat of Thadston's "I'll get right on that" and then be two years later."

Alendrial says, "A noble effort and burden, he was what we needed at the time."

Chandrellia says, "It will be nice to see him be able to let loose again."

Alendrial says, "No of course not, in the coming weeks I hope to address the Steward of Coffers."

Speaking to Chandrellia, Leafiara says, "Already has been."

Speaking to herself, Chandrellia says, "So long as he isnt letting loose chairs."

Alendrial nods.

Vaemyr nods at Alendrial.

Vaemyr smiles.

Speaking to Alendrial, Kiyna asks, "You could always do both jobs. Got two quill-holding hands, don't ya?"

Goldstr asks, "Dat be Beldrin?"

The Wraith's Identity

Striding through the archway, comes a silver-haired half-elf who stays a bit back from the crowd and nods to Alendrial.

Speaking to Goldstr, Vaemyr says, "Beldrin is the steward of the guilds."

>l half

The half-elf is tall, with sleek silver hair that is tied back into a ponytail. He wears a crisp jacket, as dark as night, but threaded with navy blue. Several pockets line his heavy belt, and there are two missing fingers on his right hand.

Alendrial nods to a silver-haired half-elf.

Goldstr says, "Ah aye."

Alendrial says, "It has been..."

Alendrial nods to a silver-haired half-elf.

Speaking to a silver-haired half-elf, Chandrellia says, "Greetings."

The half-elf smiles.

Speaking curiously to a silver-haired half-elf, Leafiara greets, "Hello..."

Alendrial asks, "How is he?"

The silver-haired half-elf says, "Surviving, like he always does."

Alendrial nods.

Alendrial says, "Like we always do."

Kiyna guesses, "A... Scion of Shaundara, I would expect? Or associate?"

Speaking to Alendrial, Vaemyr asks, "Checking on Stephos?"

Alendrial says, "You can both be correct."

Alendrial chuckles.

The silver-haired half-elf says, "He's sent word, so I'm glad there's others present. He enjoys a crowd."

Alendrial says, "Some things never change."

The silver-haired half-elf says, "Given the recent trial and revelations, I suppose I can speak more freely."

Alendrial says, "Yes, please do."

The burnished ember fox barks.

Speaking to a flame-eyed burnished ember fox, Kiyna says, "Hush."

The silver-haired half-elf says, "He made me promise to this one part...so let me make it clear."

The silver-haired half-elf says, "The Brotherhood of Rooks helped arrange and secure this information."

Leafiara nods understandingly to the silver-haired half-elf.

Kayse inclines her head.

Kiyna nods.

[General] Markx thinks, "Well...nothin seems to be happening up on the glacier."

Vaemyr says, "So probably the Idolone deal then."

The silver-haired half-elf says, "Theodulph Underhill."

[General] Leafiara thinks, "The phenomenon hasn't led to anything major yet, though it's under investigation."

Leafiara raises an eyebrow.

Alendrial asks, "Is that a location?"

Kiyna asks, "...Is that?"

Kayse squints at a silver-haired half-elf.

The silver-haired half-elf says, "No, that is a Wraith."

Leafiara says, "I think I know what he's saying--"

Vaemyr asks, "The Wraith's name?"

Kiyna flashes a wide grin.

Leafiara agrees, "Yep, I knew what he was saying."

Alendrial says, "It sounds fam..."

Chandrellia says, "Well then."

Alendrial says, "Please wait here a moment."

Mayor Alendrial just went through a wide burnished oak archway.

Kayse glances at a wide burnished oak archway.

Chandrellia glances at a wide burnished oak archway.

Leafiara says, "Maybe we should find out if that name was on Bodohal's list."

Vaemyr says, "Underhill... I recognize the surname."

Kiyna beams happily at Leafiara!

Kiyna exclaims, "We got the name of the Wraith!"

Leafiara says, "Connections can run very deep..."

Leafiara nods at Kiyna.

Chandrellia nods at Kiyna.

Kayse measuredly says, "Let's hope it's worth the price."

The silver-haired half-elf says, "Well, this is awkward..."

Chandrellia agrees with Kayse.

Leafiara gazes in amusement at a silver-haired half-elf.

The silver-haired half-elf says, "...rain here much?"

Kiyna says, "More than you know."

Speaking to a silver-haired half-elf, Chandrellia says, "All the time."

Speaking amusedly to a silver-haired half-elf, Leafiara says, "...yes."

Leafiara chuckles.

Kayse says, "It became more than originally intended."

Vaemyr says, "Many many nights."

Kelfyr says, "Odd weather, late nights."

Kayse narrows her eyes.

Emperia says, "Too often. Far too often."

The Wraith's Pylon Ship

Mayor Alendrial just came through a wide burnished oak archway.

Alendrial frowns.

Speaking to a silver-haired half-elf, Vaemyr says, "Although I hear that it's supposed to be pretty dry for a couple weeks about."

Alendrial says, "I knew I had seen that name, in one of Amos's ledgers he filed."

Alendrial says, "Theodulph Underhill, one of the recent recipients of the purchase of one of Amos's pylon ships."

Goldstr says, "A course."

The silver-haired half-elf says, "...well that's not good."

Vaemyr says, "Oh... great."

Leafiara tentatively asks, "How recent?"

Chandrellia says, "Really? now that is intersting."

Speaking to Alendrial, Kayse says, "Last I spoke of Amos he does not kow who the Wraith is."

Tikba asks, "Where did he take delivery?"

Alendrial says, "Months ago, when he reported one sold."

Vaemyr says, "I remember the sale."

The silver-haired half-elf says, "Well, I think my work here is done. We'll be in touch Mayor. He has another request, but he is not ready yet."

Alendrial nods.

Vaemyr says, "Maybe that's why the surname is familiar... I don't remember hardly any details on it."

Leafiara puzzledly says, "Hmm... the Remnants should have been using it for quite a while instead of doing what they've been doing and just charging in blindly or picking people off in the shadows..."

The half-elf slips through the arch, adjusting the pockets along his belt.

Goldstr says, "Amos goes where da Silvers be, nae trust him."

Speaking to Leafiara, Kiyna says, "That would give it away."

Speaking to Leafiara, Kiyna says, "It's insurance."

Speaking to Leafiara, Vaemyr says, "I think the wraith has a lot more operations than just what's going on here."

Kiyna says, "Also that."

Speaking to Vaemyr, Leafiara agrees, "True..."

Speaking to Alendrial, Kayse asks, "I am assuming the payments for this information are going to cross the correct hands?"

Tikba says, "If the ship were in use, surely we would know."

Kayse glances at a wide burnished oak archway.

Kayse furtively glances at Xorus.

Speaking to Tikba, Leafiara ponders, "Unless it was far enough away..."

Alendrial says, "We'll need to seek more information from Amos. It is unclear where the ship was handed off at. South I know, when some sailed away."

Alendrial says, "It's been awhile. I was glad to see some of them go...at the time."

Alendrial peers quizzically at Kayse.

Alendrial asks, "Payments for...?"

Kayse stares upward.

Speaking to Alendrial, Kayse says, "I'll write Stephos."

Alendrial nods.

Speaking to Alendrial, Vaemyr says, "While I know the proposal was on Thadston's desk, perhaps it could be a good idea to look into aquiring some ships for the militia to use... just in case."

Goldstr says, "Aye."

Alendrial nods.

Speaking to Alendrial, Chandrellia says, "Or perhaps start a calvery brigade, I know a lot of people with formadable equines."

Speaking to Alendrial, Kayse offers, "Although a ship was sold to this individual, I do not believe Amos knows it is the Wraith."

Alendrial says, "I believe you're correct."

Alendrial nods at Kayse.

Goldstr says, "We has only da Sea Gates fer now."

Speaking to Kayse, Kiyna says, "I agree. It's theoretically possible Amos knew and kept it from us... but I don't think so."

Alendrial says, "I cannot see Amos willingly aiding the Rooks in any fashion."

Kayse says, "I spoke to Amos regarding the mission to Idolone. He wants to know who the Wraith is as much as we do."

Alendrial says, "But, hopefully he knows more of this Underhill than just a name and a receipt."

Speaking to Kayse, Kiyna says, "If he knew, he would boast about it and sell us the information himself."

Goldstr exclaims, "Amos will! If it pads his pockets!"

Kelfyr says, "Certainly a man of means to afford such a device."

Speaking wryly to Kiyna, Leafiara says, "Probably."

Alendrial says, "But we'll lose our edge of surprise. It won't last long in this town that we now have a name."

Tikba amusedly says, "It seems he does know, but he does not know he knows."

Vaemyr says, "For what it's worth, I also agree with Kayse. Amos most likely didn't know about the person being the wraith, and if anything this Theodulph Underhill, could be using this to weaken Amos on purpose."

Vaemyr says, "Any location, where we might can strike would be extremely helpful."

Speaking to Tikba, Chandrellia says, "Yer in a mood this night."

Kayse evenly says, "I am not speculating. I trust Amos and the information he disclosed to me."

Speaking to Vaemyr, Chandrellia says, "Perhaps we should gain a bit more information rather then just go in blind, I mean, I know its the Landing Way and all."

Kelfyr says, "That he purchased it himself and not through a cutout is also interesting."

Alendrial says, "I cannot imagine he'd slide a pylon ship into Darkstone Bay..."

Leafiara says, "Honestly, even the name is helpful enough... assuming we have connections in various areas to--poke around."

Alendrial says, "But if we pursue Underhill, we'll need to calculate for the ship."

Goldstr says, "I can."

Kiyna says, "One pylon ship is certainly a threat, but it's not enough to truly threaten the Landing. He has more, you can be sure. Ordlyn, and more besides, like as not."

Kelfyr says, "I'd worry more about what he expects to be coming across the water. The Barony has already taken shipments by sea. Perhaps there's something specific he's expecting."

Leafiara asks, "If Tyrrax's forces could destroy a pylon ship, we can too. It'll be ugly, but... is it ever not?"

Alendrial says, "Perhaps Amos will be available tomorrow, to see what else can be learned."

Chandrellia says, "My worry is this, if he has the ship, then he can study it and possibly make more, tho that would take time, he seems to be bidding it, for now."

Alendrial nods at Leafiara.

Kiyna says, "We destroyed the Shiver, after all. Much more intimidating vessel, that."

Speaking to Kelfyr, Leafiara says, "That's... an interesting thought."

Tikba says, "Perhaps his ship was south, near Idolone."

Alendrial peers quizzically at Kelfyr.

Alendrial asks, "What do you mean?"

Speaking to Alendrial, Kiyna says, "Kelfyr means that the Wraith hates the Empire. He may be planning on using that pylon ship on something imperial he expects to be arriving."

The voice of Raelee slowly says, "... those pylons are very powerful. I would not underestimate the threat. These remarks speak to the defensive capabilities of the ship, but if he takes you by surprise, the pylon cannot just damage your town, it can annihilate it."

Raelee suddenly fades into view.

Speaking to Leafiara, Vaemyr says, "Aye, I'm not too worried, if the ship sailed into the bay, while it would do damange, we would be able to board it most likely."

Speaking to Alendrial, Kelfyr asks, "It's not just a pylon, it's a ship-board pylon. Why would he need that level of maneuverability if not to strike at something also maneuverable?"

Alendrial asks, "It is several pylons, plinite ones at that, is my understanding, yes?"

Leafiara nods at Alendrial.

Vaemyr nods at Alendrial.

Alendrial says, "I am not as up to..."

Alendrial says, "Ah, okay."

Alendrial nods.

Speaking to Kelfyr, Chandrellia says, "Unless he wishes to be at a distance when he fires it."

Leafiara confirms, "Yes, automated with golems and the like."

Kelfyr says, "His forces haven't shied away from getting up close to work their knives, so far."

Vaemyr says, "They are... sort of super charged, versus the ones we use, to the point they are only operatable by golems, a person touching them... well it does not end well."

Xorus says, "Those pylons are so powerful, they will incinerate someone of flesh and blood trying to fire them."

Leafiara elaborates, "The power of plinite makes them too... powerful to be handled by people."

Raelee asks, "And what is a wooden palisade to a pylon such as that?"

Speaking to Kelfyr, Chandrellia says, "Yes but think of the saying, watch the left hand, and you dont see what the righthand is doing."

Alendrial says, "It is not impossible to defeat it and sink it. The krolvin did, did they not? It is about mitigating the losses and the sacrifice to do so."

Alendrial says, "Not one life is worth the ship."

Kayse offers, "Perhaps the krolvin could do it again."

Leafiara says, "Kelfyr might be right, though... the ship might be trying to intercept something Imperial, not come after us. Since it hasn't come after us yet."

Alendrial says, "No."

Speaking to Alendrial, Vaemyr says, "Better to board it before it has chances to fire."

Alendrial says, "The endless cycle of leveraging enemies against enemies should come to an end, or be few and far between."

Alendrial nods at Kayse.

Vaemyr says, "Which is why information is key."

Kiyna says, "We can't touch the pylons, but the golems that fire them we can definitely slay."

Alendrial says, "If you dig a grave to fill a grave, you are still left with a grave."

Speaking to Alendrial, Kayse says, "Well, we have another problem with the Reivers right now where we will need to make a decision about the krolvin anyway."

Kelfyr says, "If he wanted to damage the town, he's already demonstrated that capacity. One wouldn't need to acquire a new weapon to accomplish it. A more reinforced target, though? Quite possible."

Speaking to Alendrial, Raelee says, "... or a Krolvin fleet with a captured weapon."

Vaemyr says, "One other thing."

Leafiara considers, "Honestly, I'm not sure Tyrrax would be interested in sinking it anyway. The Wraith is of no concern to him compared to the reivers and Grishom Stone."

Vaemyr says, "The pylons seemed to eventually overheat after a time of use."

Alendrial says, "He acquired the ship months ago, and we haven't seen it used offensively. Perhaps because of his identity hidden."

Alendrial says, "We may provoke that now, we'll need to be ready."

Speaking to Alendrial, Kiyna says, "Aye, that's what I said before. If he used the ship, Amos would know who it was sold to. Paper trail."

Tikba says, "We need not speculate too wildly. Amos will be able to tell us more."

Alendrial nods at Kiyna.

Kayse asks, "Does Amos still not have two of these ships in the harbor?"

Tikba says, "Then we may speculate wildly."

Speaking to Kayse, Kiyna says, "At my last count it was one, but I may be misremembering."

Speaking to Alendrial, Chandrellia asks, "And I am going to guess no word has been issued forth about such a ship seen at sea by any of the sailors that has passed thru our ports yes?"

Speaking amusedly to Tikba, Kayse says, "You are not new here, that is all Wehnimer's does."

Alendrial says, "There is only one pylon ship at the docks currently."

Vaemyr says, "Amos still owns two, unless he sold the one he keeps at sea as well."

Vaemyr says, "But only one in the harbor."

Leafiara says, "Right... one here and one elsewhere."

Kayse slowly says, "The point is there is still two pylon warships on our side."

Alendrial looks over at Chandrellia and shakes her head.

Chandrellia nods at Alendrial.

Alendrial says, "No word of the ship at sea, no."

Alendrial frowns.

Kiyna says, "But this is a victory. We have the name of the Wraith."

Kiyna nods at Alendrial.

Tikba politely says, "We should consider warning Solhaven, as well, as they are our nearest neighbor."

Alendrial nods at Kiyna.

Alendrial says, "Agreed. The fog has lifted some."

Alendrial says, "We've got more to work with and see."

Leafiara says, "Hmm... I don't suppose we'd be fortunate enough that it docked in a port with well-kept records."

Alendrial nods at Tikba.

Leafiara adds, "...and harbormasters who aren't corrupt."

Speaking to Alendrial, Vaemyr says, "But yes, some thoughts into having some ships for militia use could still be prudent... while like Kayse says Amos still certainly has a pylon ship in our harbor... he has been fickle in the past on when he's opted to use those ships to actually help us defend."

Alendrial says, "I will see what I can learn of the ship's history after it was sold, and where it may be currently."

Alendrial says, "I would not bet on Amos using his ship to fight the other ship, and run the risk of it getting destroyed."

Alendrial says, "Not without a significant deal favoring him."

Leafiara says, "Not without--"

Leafiara says, "Exactly."

Leafiara chuckles.

Alendrial nods.

Speaking to Alendrial, Chandrellia says, "Unless it impedes on his... exactly."

Kiyna says, "If he recalls the second, then in a pincer attack..."

Alendrial says, "And no one wants him to be Mayor for his ship."

Alendrial chuckles.

Kayse says, "Ten people would."

Kayse shrugs her shoulders, lifting her wings slightly.

Alendrial smirks.

Kayse says, "Also, I find it amusing how everyone is condemning Amos for wanting something when that is how we got information about the Wraith."

Kayse evenly says, "If all you think that information from Stephos was free you need to realize what type of world we live in."

Tikba mildly says, "Amos has devoted his forces to defending the Landing before. He is a fellow citizen, after all. We can only ask."

Alendrial says, "I was merely speaking to his character. I do not think it makes him a monster."

Speaking to Kayse, Kiyna says, "I'm not condemning him. Had he the information we wanted, his would be the much easier deal to strike."

Alendrial says, "We just understand his language."

Goldstr asks, "Ok Anythin be decided here da I kin report to da Order?"

Leafiara says, "I'm not condemning anything, just..."

Speaking to Alendrial, Leafiara agrees, "Yeah, that."

Leafiara chuckles.

Speaking to Alendrial, Kayse says, "It was for the others, not you."

Alendrial says, "It's almost like we share a mind."

Alendrial nods at Leafiara.

Speaking to Kayse, Chandrellia says, "I'm not condeming Amos for anything, just know how he is."

Leafiara grins at Alendrial.

Kayse says, "And we spoke of making a deal with Rheshay as well. Everyone operates this way for the most part. So it is not just Amos."

Kelfyr asks, "These ships, they're rather conspicuous, are they not?"

Speaking to Kayse, Kiyna says, "I am in favor of releasing Rheshay unconditionally. It's Elidal who can't bear to not receive -something-."

Alendrial says, "The hour is late. Thank you for being here, our work continues, and now we will dig and plan."

Vaemyr says, "I've worked with the consortium long enough at this point to know what to expect, I'm not gonna sugar coat that Amos like any good merchant, tries to get the best deal possible for anything he sells."

Alendrial says, "...but let me make this clear, before it becomes a possible discussion."

Tikba says, "Thank you for giving us the information as soon as you received it."

Speaking appreciatively to Alendrial, Leafiara says, "Thank you for a fine meeting, and best of luck."

Speaking to Alendrial, Chandrellia says, "Good eve and good night Mayor."

Alendrial says, "We are ending Underhill, and any of his minions."

Alendrial says, "There is no prison, there is no pardon."

Alendrial says, "He has bled and divided this town and we'll unite to dig his grave if need be."

Chandrellia says, "Now that I am liking."

Leafiara decisively approves, "Excellent."

Alendrial asks, "Theodulph Underground?"

Alendrial asks, "No?"

Alendrial shrugs.

Alendrial says, "I try."

Speaking to Alendrial, Vaemyr says, "You got a couple years to improve, it'll be ok."

Alendrial says, "Peter was better at those."

Alendrial says, "I miss that wild mage."

Alendrial says, "Goodnight."

Alendrial waves.

Mayor Alendrial just went through a wide burnished oak archway.

Discussion Afterward

Leafiara sighs, "Maybe one day he'll return."

Tikba approvingly says, "Progress."

Goldstr exclaims, "As I miss da Purple Mage!"

Vaemyr says, "Good to know that trip to Idolone bore fruit."

Kayse says, "Thanks to the Rooks."

Kelfyr says, "There can't be that many ports where one could keep such a ship. And if it were constantly at sea, we'd hear reports of it, I'd imagine."

Chandrellia says, "And the Black Hand."

Speaking to Kelfyr, Leafiara says, "That's why I said... the question is whether it docked somewhere with a harbormaster who can't be bought off."

Tikba says, "Now, I must pray."

Speaking to Kelfyr, Leafiara considers, "But you're right too... the other dockworkers would have noticed it. It's just that we might not know which dock to press unless there's a paper trail."

Kelfyr says, "Even still, it'd have to be remote, to not draw random shoreside gawkers."

Speaking to Tikba, Kayse instructs, "Pray hard, pray fast."

Tikba says, "I hope that soon we may speak with Amos and find what he knows of Underhill."

Kelfyr asks, "I wonder if Elidal's father might know more about these sorts of landings?"

Vaemyr says, "I... would not trust Elidal's father's information given his condition..."

Speaking to Vaemyr, Kelfyr says, "He's crotchety, he's not senile."

Speaking to Kelfyr, Vaemyr says, "Umm... you are wrong about that."

Speaking to Kelfyr, Kiyna says, "...No, he's quite definitely a bit touched. He tried to pay for shoes with wooden coins."

Speaking to Kelfyr, Vaemyr says, "I've seen that condition, it's early onset, but..."

Vaemyr says, "It's there."

Speaking to Kelfyr, Chandrellia says, "And got quite upset when the shop ownder refused him."

Leafiara suddenly says, "Oh... *that's* why the wooden coins."

Vaemyr says, "Even his wife and Elidal both told us as such."

Speaking to Kelfyr, Kiyna says, "He didn't know they were wooden until we repeatedly pointed it out, and then... was very, very embarrassed. I feel sorry for the poor man."

Vaemyr says, "That he's been deteriorating for a while."

Leafiara embarrassedly says, "I really should have put that one together. Too focused on other things, I guess."

Kelfyr says, "He's got quite a bit of lucidity in him. Those are the actions of a proud man not used to being questioned, and believing all are due his opinions."

Kelfyr says, "But, I'm no doctor, so you may have the right of it."

Kelfyr says, "Anyhow, good evening."

Vaemyr says, "I know no one wants to see someone go through that... but denying it exists."

Vaemyr says, "At least he has a good family."

Speaking to Vaemyr, Chandrellia says, "He is one that looks for the best."

Chandrellia says, "I will nae fault him on that."

Kiyna says, "Enisius was surprisingly kind to him. That was rather touching."

Leafiara says, "Times are changing when the member of the Hall of Mages is the latest person from the Empire to come here who I actually trust."

Chandrellia says, "The time is late, and I have things to prepare for."

Leafiara says, "But the Kestrel family might as well be ancient history to others here besides Kayse..."

Leafiara says, "What a mess they all were."

Kiyna says, "Now we just need to get Enisius to understand that saving Rodnay is the best course of action."

Leafiara hopefully says, "And I think we can."

Vaemyr says, "I... think he was sort of on board with that last time."

Leafiara says, "He's not impossible and he doesn't seem to have secondary and tertiary motives buried beneath the surface."

Speaking to Vaemyr, Kiyna says, "Was he? I'm not sure if I was with the group that time."

Leafiara wryly ssay, "Which... again, more than I could say of the Kestrel family."

Speaking to Kiyna, Leafiara says, "He did seem on board."

Vaemyr says, "And I gotta admit, I'm coming over to the "maybe moving Rodnay out of the mountain killing him" is a good idea."

Leafiara agrees, "Yeah, Enisius still wants us to consider all options, but he in turn is also open."

Leafiara says, "It's not frustrating dealing with him, unlike dealing with his brother."

Vaemyr says, "Aye."

Kiyna asks, "Setting aside that Rodnay is a citizen of the Landing whose done us many good turns, wouldn't he want to study a half-Ithzir? Isn't that something you magic-y types go wild for?"

Speaking to Leafiara, Vaemyr says, "I'm with you... of all the new folks from down south, I probably trust Enisius the most, seeing him with the fish... that isn't something you would see from someone who doesn't care."

Leafiara says, "And it means a lot coming from me, after all the bad run-ins I've had with the Hall of Mages. Dennet, Naimorai, Cyph to an extent even though he was romantically interested in me, Octaven--it's been relentless, but Enisius seems trustworthy."
