Where Does It Go? Item Property Slot Lookup

Companion to Item properties. That page defines the categories; this table tells you which slot a specific property or script actually uses, and what it blocks.

Slot key

  • A – Base properties every item has (enchant, material, forging). No limit, no conflicts.
  • B – Ability slot (often called the "flare slot"). Only ONE per item.
  • C – Other properties. Any number may coexist, except where impossible for the gear type (no weighting on armor, no padding on weapons).
  • D – Script slot. Only ONE per item. Includes fluff scripts with no mechanical benefit.
  • Sub – Subscript. Can coexist with a D script and a B flare.
  • Flourish – Standalone script outside the B/D/subscript slots.
  • B + D – Occupies both slots. Nothing else from B or D can be added.

Confirmed by key

  • Wiki – Item properties (GM Finros, 2017) or the Charts of Clarity
  • Event – Nothing to Fear but Gear Itself (Silverwood Manor), hosted by Leafiara and Jervil
  • TBD – Conflicting or unconfirmed. Verify before relying on it.
Property / Item Slot Blocks / Conflicts Notes Confirmed by
Base and materials
Enchantment A None Difficulty rises steeply at high enchant. Enchanting to roughly +25–30 early adds little; save the final casts for last. Wiki, Event
Forging modifiers A None Perfect forge boosts DF (multiplicative, not additive). Adding smithing bonuses to a non-forged weapon has been offered only once (auction). Wiki, Event
Holy armament status A None Wiki
Innate material properties (e.g. eonake, faewood, white ora) A None Most materials have no innate benefit. Event
Adamantine A None Its on-contact ability does not conflict with B flares. Event
Ghezyte innate debuff A None Exception among flaring materials: does not use the B slot. Ghezyte can still take dispel or other flares. Event
Flaring materials: drake, zorchar, drakar, rhimar, xazkruvrixis, firewheel B All other B (no added flares) Zorchar gives lightning flares, a common budget-build pick. Event
Kroderine, zelnorn B All other B Achieve their properties through B. Wiki, Event
Ability slot (B)
Standard elemental flares (fire, cold, lightning, acid, vibration, etc.) B All other B Lightning is the most lethal basic element (nerve criticals). Wiki, Event
Dispel flares B All other B Highly regarded for melee. Wiki, Event
Mechanical flares (slash/puncture/crush) B All other B Wiki
Mana flares B All other B Runestaves. Wiki, Event
Acuity flares B All other B Runestaves. Wiki, Event
Defender weapon (DB bonus) B All flares, incl. paladin Guiding Light Low value because of what it blocks. Not the same as enchant. Wiki, Event
TD bonus (armor/shield) B All other B A reasonable tradeoff for professions with weak TD. Wiki, Event
Offensive bonus from armor B All other B Wiki
Paladin Guiding Light flares B Blocked by any other B (TD, defender, flares) Conflicts with B+D items such as Iasha. Event
Minor Elemental Edging (902) B or C TBD Wiki lists it as B. Event hosts think it has since changed (closer to C) and confirmed it coexists with bless. TBD
Other properties (C)
Weighting (damage and critical) C None Weapons only. Damage and crit weighting can now coexist on one item (a recent change). Gear difficulty scales with the square of CER: 10 CER = 100. Wiki, Event
Padding (damage and critical) C None Armor and accessories. Damage and crit padding can now coexist on one item. Wiki, Event
Sighting C None Bows and crossbows. Wiki
Resistances C None Only the highest resistance per damage type counts (see Resistances below). Also available on shields (Duskruin, 25k bloodscrip per 5%), although the shield Chart of Clarity omits them. Wiki, Event
Enhancives C None Wiki, Event
Creature bane C Max one foe type and one bane effect May add padding/weighting or flares separately from B. Wiki, Event
Ensorcell C None Adds a flat difficulty per tier, and a lot of it. Even T1 is worth having for stamina. Wiki, Event
Sanctify (current cleric service) C None Coexists with ensorcell, but each makes the other harder to add. Adds a flat difficulty per tier. Wiki, Event
Blessing (current version) C None Formerly B, which is why flaring weapons once could not be blessed. Wiki, Event
Weapon Bonding (warrior/paladin) C None Weapons. Wiki, Event
Spikes C None Armor, accessories, shields. Wiki, Event
Temporary weighting/resistances (treasure system) C None Event
Script slot (D)
Sigil D Other D Its built-in dispel flares do not use B, so a standard B flare can be added too. Event
Nervestaff D Other D Complex, but a single script. Event
Blink weapon D Other D Wiki, Event
Animalistic Spirit D Other D –200 difficulty at any unlock tier. Change certs can expire. Event
Vial flares D Other D A wizard's staff with vial flares plus acuity (B) was reportedly made to drop one by a GM; reason unknown. Not offered at HESS for years. Wiki, TBD
Bubble, knockout, chronomage, poleaxe flares; Ironwright holy flares D Other D Wiki
Sorrow D Other D Difficulty contribution unknown. Wiki, Event
Fluff scripts (Gizwizit's Fantabulous / Anfelt line, lean/wave verbs) D Other D No mechanical benefit, but fill the D slot. Gizwizit confirms by OOC whisper before adding. Event
Daybringer D Other D A thematic alternative to Iasha that does not use B. Event
Both slots (B + D)
Greater Elemental Flares (GEF) B + D All other B and D Requires a base elemental flare. Common budget-build component. Wiki, Event
Greater Rhimar weapons B + D All other B and D Scripted flare (D) plus normal ice flares (B). Event
Iasha B + D All other B and D, incl. Guiding Light Older script; long-standing requests to make it D-only have not been granted. Event
Rotating flares B + D All other B and D Wiki
ShadowDeath weapon B + D All other B and D Wiki
Immolation weapons B + D All other B and D Event hosts were unsure whether it uses B once activated. Wiki, TBD
Subscripts and flourishes
Rotflares Sub Not all D scripts allow it Coexists with most D scripts and a B flare. Fluff scripts do not need to be removed. Convertible to Lore Flares. Subscripts start around 400k bloodscrip. Wiki, Event
Elemental subscripts (Wyrom) Sub TBD New. Event
Lore Flares, RageArmor, Least Moods Flourish None with B or D Standalone scripts alongside B flares and D scripts. Wiki

Rule of thumb

  • Scripts made in recent years usually occupy only D. Older scripts are the ones that more often take B + D. Check before buying.
  • Before buying event gear (Duskruin, Rumor Woods, Ebon Gate), confirm whether it uses B, D, both, or neither, and whether any certificates expire. Ask staff on Discord or players in the Help channel.
  • Unwanted properties can be removed by an NPC at Duskruin or with premium points. Merchant removal services are now rare.
