The fire mage isn't tall, standing no more than five feet, but her harrowing image is more than intimidating. Blackened skin of her face is framed with a wild mane of silvery hair, which lifts in the smoke and flames rising from the mage's robes like writhing serpents. Twin pits of fire glare out of the apparition's eye sockets, constantly sweeping her surroundings with maleficent intent.

Hunting strategies

Fire mages cast Earthen Fury (917) which can be especially deadly against pures, and with open rolls can also be lethal against squares. They also cast Weapon Fire (915), Major Elemental Wave (435), and possibly others. Fire sprites tend to be in the same area which can dispel.

If possible, fire mages should be disabled immediately via Elemental Wave (410), sweep, etc. so they cannot get a cast off. They do not stun, but are easy to crit. Unless the fire mage is stunned, webbed, or immobiled upon death, whoever delivers the death blow, even if through a spell such as Earthen Fury that kills indirectly, will get a rank 1 wound to a random location. If there is already a rank 1 wound there, then it will become a rank 2 wound. Without an empath or many herbs, hunting them for extended periods of time becomes very difficult, and more dangerous.

Like other creatures made of fire, they are immune to fire-based spells.

Other information

Upon death, the fire mage will release a final desperation fire based attack.

The fire mage looks upon you with utter hatred. Flames shoot from her eyes and engulf you!
... 1 point of damage!
Minor burns to left arm. That hurts a bit.
The fire mage goes limp and she falls over as the fire slowly fades from her eyes.

Upon your death, they will sometimes take a trophy, for unknown purposes. Removing ones fingernails leaves a rank 2 scar.

A quick gesture from a fire mage produces a fine, blackened pouch. With a wave of her hand over your corpse, the fire mage scorches your hand! Reaching down, the fire mage pries loose a few of your fingernails, catching them in her pouch. With a pleased look on her face, the fire mage attaches the pouch to her belt.

A fire mage retrieves a small, smoky crystal globe from within her robes. With a thoughtful look on her face, the mage gazes into the globe for several seconds. A dark look passes over her as she returns the globe to the depths of her robes, and she is obviously disturbed.

Fire mages are not over-hunted, and their loot can be very good. They drop many boxes which fill disks quickly. Becoming encumbered with treasure will make hunting the fire mages more dangerous because of their use of Earthen Fury (917).
