Tea is a common Elanthian beverage made by placing herbal leaves in boiling water.
The brewing system allows for characters to brew hot tea and coffee using a variety of common implements, which can be purchased or found in certain cafes and similar locations. Brewed tea allows those with the gift of divination to "read" the remaining leaves in their cups prior to the last sip.

Brewing
Brewing Equipment
Tea leaves and coffee grounds are the foundation of the brewing system and can be purchased at various cafes and festivals. While the two are technically the same script and function almost the same, there is some slight variation in which optional tools can be used depending on if the base item involves "some tea leaves" or "some coffee grounds". Both tea leaves and coffee grounds can be found in single use form in a packet or in a tin or canister containing multiple doses, typically up to 20.

An unlocked Stovetop Dehydrator is capable of brewing custom blends of tea and coffee, depending on the base flavor item and any additives included.
Tea shops often sell a variety of packaged tea leaves to allow characters to brew their own tea.

A brewing kettle is used to hold water in preparation for brewing. Both tea leaves and coffee grounds can be placed directly inside a kettle, or they can be used in association with other optional tools to more precisely set the end beverage's potency.
The brewing process requires some equipment:
*a stove
*a kettle
*a wooden log
*tinder
*a source of fire to light the stove, such as matches
*a source of clean water
*tea leaves
*cups or other drinking vessels to hold the tea

Water is required as the basis for brewing. Water can be POURed into a kettle from any water item that is part of the food and drink system. Alternatively, Minor Water (903) and Holy Bolt (306) can be CAST at a kettle to fill it magically.
The Wizard spells Minor Water (903) and Minor Fire (906) work as water/fire sources.

A heat source is used to heat the kettle once water is placed inside, bringing it to boil. It can be a portable stove, Collapsible Tripod, or another compatible heat source. Some heat sources require logs, tinder, or a matchbook to light - or an appropriate spell, such as Minor Fire (906).
The following items are optional:
*an infuser
*tea flavorings

A drink container such as a teacup or mug is required to actually drink the tea or coffee, once brewed. Simply POUR the kettle (or coffee press) into the container once the drink has been brewed to completion.
To brew tea:
#Place the log and tinder inside the stove.
#Place the kettle on the stove.
#Pour water into the kettle (or use 903). If pouring from physical vessels, it may take several vessels to fill the kettle.
#Either put tea leaves directly into the kettle, or place them in an infuser and put the infuser into the kettle. (This step can also be done later, after the water starts to boil.)
#Light the stove with a match (or use 906).
#Wait until the water boils and the tea is sufficiently steeped. The fire will go out by itself but the ideal steeping time is usually a while longer so that the tea is not too weak or strong. Look inside the kettle to monitor progress. If using an infuser, removing it will cause the tea to stop steeping.
#Pour the prepared tea into drinking vessels, and add flavorings if necessary.
#Clean the stove. Excess tea can be cleaned up by turning the kettle.

Optional tools include a tea infuser and a coffee press. These are used slightly differently but allow for the final brewed beverage to have its intensity, such as "weak", "strong", or "just right", set to a specific amount depending on when it is used in the brewing process. This prevents over-brewing from leaving tea leaves or coffee grounds in the kettle, continuing to steep.

How to Brew
Coffee and tea can be brewed the same way when placing either tea leaves or coffee grounds directly into a brewing kettle. However, there are slight differences when using either a tea infuser or a coffee press, both of which are optional. Those differences are broken down in the later section. To brew coffee or tea without either a tea infuser or a coffee press:
<section begin=brewstart /><section begin=brewfull />
# First, both coffee and tea require the use of a prepared heat source, such as a portable stove or Collapsible Tripod. Ensure that the heat source is properly fueled, lit, and ready to use.
width="100"| Flavor Name !! Messaging
# Next, fill the brewing kettle with water, either from water that is part of the food and drink system, or by CASTing Minor Water (903) or Holy Bolt (306) at the kettle. It will take multiple glasses of water to fill a kettle completely. Kettle measurements include: about one-fourth full, about one-third full, about half full, about two-thirds full, about three-fourths full, nearly full, and full. A kettle holds up to 35 sips, equivalent to five full cups.
# Place the filled kettle on the stove or other heat source and bring the water to a boil. Coffee and tea require the water to have reached the roiling boil state before either will begin the brewing process.<section end=brewstart />
Hot Water || The drink is warm and soothing, if a little bland.<br>The liquid is the perfect comforting, warm temperature: not too hot, and not too cool.
# Place the tea leaves or coffee grounds in the kettle. This can be done directly, by removing the leaves or grounds from their packet, tin, or canister, or the packet/tin/canister can be PUT directly into the kettle, which measures out exactly one dose.<br>Note: Tea leaves and coffee grounds can be added to the kettle and water at any point prior to boiling, including before the heat source is lit. However, they will not begin actually brewing until the water has reached a rolling boil. Shortly afterward, the clear liquid (water) inside will begin to turn the color of the tea or coffee.
# Let the kettle continue the brewing process. You can LOOK IN the kettle to observe how intense the beverage is. See the brewing intensity and timing section for more information on how to determine that your tea or coffee is done.<br>Note: Once the kettle has reached a rolling boil, it can be removed entirely from the heat source and it will still continue the brewing process uninterrupted. If the heat source goes out, it does not need to be re-lit so long as the kettle has already been heated to a rolling boil beforehand.
# Once the beverage has been brewed to the desired intensity, simply POUR the kettle's contents into any appropriate drink container, such as a mug or teacup.<br>Note: Unless using a tea infuser or a coffee press, the tea leaves or coffee grounds inside the kettle will continue the brewing process even as the beverage is being poured out of the kettle. If left to sit untouched for several minutes between pouring additional drinks, the later drinks will be significantly stronger.
# If desired, coffee and tea flavorings can be added to the drink container after the beverage has been poured into it. This will append the tea or coffee's flavor messaging with the flavoring additive.<section end=brewfull />

Using a Coffee Press
<section begin=brewpress />
# Place the coffee grounds inside the coffee press. This can be done directly, by removing the grounds from their packet, tin, or canister, or the packet/tin/canister can be PUT directly into the coffee press, which measures out exactly one dose.
# Once the kettle has reached a rolling boil, POUR the kettle's boiling water into the coffee press.
# Wait approximately two minutes, and then PRESS the coffee press to finish the brewing process. The coffee press will prevent it from being PRESSed too early, ensuring that the coffee ends up "just right" for its intensity. This step also sets the brewing intensity so that the grounds will not continue to brew after pouring a cup.
# POUR the coffee press's contents into an drink container, such as a mug.
# If desired, coffee and tea flavorings can be added to the drink container after the beverage has been poured into it. This will append the coffee's flavor messaging with the flavoring additive.<section end=brewpress />

Using a Tea Infuser
<section begin=brewinfuser />
# Place the tea leaves inside the tea infuser. This must be done directly, by removing the grounds from their packet, tin, or canister, and then PUTing the "tea leaves" item into the tea infuser, which measures out exactly one dose.
# Once the kettle has reached a rolling boil, PUT the tea infuser into the kettle. If the infuser has not yet been closed beforehand, this step will automatically close it, too.<br>Note: Tea leaves inside an infuser can be added to the kettle and water at any point prior to boiling, including before the heat source is lit. However, it will not begin actually brewing until the water has reached a rolling boil. Shortly afterward, the clear liquid (water) inside will begin to turn the color of the tea.
# Let the kettle continue the brewing process. You can LOOK IN the kettle to observe how intense the tea is. See the brewing intensity and timing section for more information on how to determine that your tea is done.<br>Note: Once the kettle has reached a rolling boil, it can be removed entirely from the heat source and it will still continue the brewing process uninterrupted. If the heat source goes out, it does not need to be re-lit so long as the kettle has already been heated to a rolling boil beforehand.
# Once the tea has been brewed to the desired intensity, GET the infuser out of it to set that intensity for the entire contents of the kettle. The tea leaves will not continue to steep after pouring a cup.
# Simply POUR the kettle's contents into any appropriate drink container, such as a mug or teacup.
# If desired, coffee and tea flavorings can be added to the drink container after the beverage has been poured into it. This will append the tea's flavor messaging with the flavoring additive.<section end=brewinfuser />

Brewing Intensity and Timing
Unbrewed water is clear. A brewed beverage will have a color according to that specific beverage as well as an intensity description. The intensity of the liquid can progresses from pale to murky to or rich until it no longer displays any intensity adjective.

Within seconds of reaching a rolling boil state, any tea leaves or coffee grounds added to a kettle will turn the clear liquid (water) inside to the color according to the bevereage being brewed. It will initially appear as "some pale (color) liquid".

Approximately 1 minute later, the liquid will transition from pale to appear as "some murky (color) liquid".

Approximately 1 more minute later, the liquid will transition from murky to appear as "some rich (color) liquid".

Approximately 2 more minutes later, the liquid will drop the rich adjetive and appear as just "some (color) liquid".

The final beverage's strength appends the tea or coffee's flavor messaging:
:* The tea/coffee is weak.
:* The tea/coffee is a bit weak.
:* The tea/coffee is just right.
:* The tea/coffee is a bit strong.
:* The tea/coffee is very strong.

If the desired outcome is "just right", waiting 3 minutes after the brewing process begins (and the water in the kettle changes from "clear" to "pale (color)") will consistently produce this result. If a timer is not readily available, waiting an extra minute (when the water changes from "rich (color)" to no longer having any adjective) will also consistently produce this result, however care should be taken as it will quickly shift toward "strong" if not poured immediately.

If using a tea infuser, this is the point where the infuser should be removed to lock in the "just right" quality.

The brewing system allows for characters to brew hot tea and coffee using a variety of common implements, which can be purchased or found in certain cafes and similar locations. Brewed tea allows those with the gift of divination to "read" the remaining leaves in their cups prior to the last sip.

A brewing kettle is used to hold water in preparation for brewing. Both tea leaves and coffee grounds can be placed directly inside a kettle, or they can be used in association with other optional tools to more precisely set the end beverage's potency.

Water is required as the basis for brewing. Water can be POURed into a kettle from any water item that is part of the food and drink system. Alternatively, Minor Water (903) and Holy Bolt (306) can be CAST at a kettle to fill it magically.

A drink container such as a teacup or mug is required to actually drink the tea or coffee, once brewed. Simply POUR the kettle (or coffee press) into the container once the drink has been brewed to completion.

Coffee and tea flavorings are optional additives that can be added to a cup of tea or coffee, appending the flavor messaging depending on the flavoring type.

  1. First, both coffee and tea require the use of a prepared heat source, such as a portable stove or Collapsible Tripod. Ensure that the heat source is properly fueled, lit, and ready to use.
  2. Next, fill the brewing kettle with water, either from water that is part of the food and drink system, or by CASTing Minor Water (903) or Holy Bolt (306) at the kettle. It will take multiple glasses of water to fill a kettle completely. Kettle measurements include: about one-fourth full, about one-third full, about half full, about two-thirds full, about three-fourths full, nearly full, and full. A kettle holds up to 35 sips, equivalent to five full cups.
  3. Place the filled kettle on the stove or other heat source and bring the water to a boil. Coffee and tea require the water to have reached the roiling boil state before either will begin the brewing process.
  4. Place the tea leaves or coffee grounds in the kettle. This can be done directly, by removing the leaves or grounds from their packet, tin, or canister, or the packet/tin/canister can be PUT directly into the kettle, which measures out exactly one dose.
Note: Tea leaves and coffee grounds can be added to the kettle and water at any point prior to boiling, including before the heat source is lit. However, they will not begin actually brewing until the water has reached a rolling boil. Shortly afterward, the clear liquid (water) inside will begin to turn the color of the tea or coffee.
  5. Let the kettle continue the brewing process. You can LOOK IN the kettle to observe how intense the beverage is. See the brewing intensity and timing section for more information on how to determine that your tea or coffee is done.
Note: Once the kettle has reached a rolling boil, it can be removed entirely from the heat source and it will still continue the brewing process uninterrupted. If the heat source goes out, it does not need to be re-lit so long as the kettle has already been heated to a rolling boil beforehand.
  6. Once the beverage has been brewed to the desired intensity, simply POUR the kettle's contents into any appropriate drink container, such as a mug or teacup.
Note: Unless using a tea infuser or a coffee press, the tea leaves or coffee grounds inside the kettle will continue the brewing process even as the beverage is being poured out of the kettle. If left to sit untouched for several minutes between pouring additional drinks, the later drinks will be significantly stronger.
  7. If desired, coffee and tea flavorings can be added to the drink container after the beverage has been poured into it. This will append the tea or coffee's flavor messaging with the flavoring additive.

Using a Coffee Press

  4. Place the coffee grounds inside the coffee press. This can be done directly, by removing the grounds from their packet, tin, or canister, or the packet/tin/canister can be PUT directly into the coffee press, which measures out exactly one dose.
  5. Once the kettle has reached a rolling boil, POUR the kettle's boiling water into the coffee press.
  6. Wait approximately two minutes, and then PRESS the coffee press to finish the brewing process. The coffee press will prevent it from being PRESSed too early, ensuring that the coffee ends up "just right" for its intensity. This step also sets the brewing intensity so that the grounds will not continue to brew after pouring a cup.
  7. POUR the coffee press's contents into an drink container, such as a mug.
  8. If desired, coffee and tea flavorings can be added to the drink container after the beverage has been poured into it. This will append the coffee's flavor messaging with the flavoring additive.

Using a Tea Infuser

  4. Place the tea leaves inside the tea infuser. This must be done directly, by removing the grounds from their packet, tin, or canister, and then PUTing the "tea leaves" item into the tea infuser, which measures out exactly one dose.
  5. Once the kettle has reached a rolling boil, PUT the tea infuser into the kettle. If the infuser has not yet been closed beforehand, this step will automatically close it, too.
Note: Tea leaves inside an infuser can be added to the kettle and water at any point prior to boiling, including before the heat source is lit. However, it will not begin actually brewing until the water has reached a rolling boil. Shortly afterward, the clear liquid (water) inside will begin to turn the color of the tea.
  6. Let the kettle continue the brewing process. You can LOOK IN the kettle to observe how intense the tea is. See the brewing intensity and timing section for more information on how to determine that your tea is done.
Note: Once the kettle has reached a rolling boil, it can be removed entirely from the heat source and it will still continue the brewing process uninterrupted. If the heat source goes out, it does not need to be re-lit so long as the kettle has already been heated to a rolling boil beforehand.
  7. Once the tea has been brewed to the desired intensity, GET the infuser out of it to set that intensity for the entire contents of the kettle. The tea leaves will not continue to steep after pouring a cup.
  8. Simply POUR the kettle's contents into any appropriate drink container, such as a mug or teacup.
  9. If desired, coffee and tea flavorings can be added to the drink container after the beverage has been poured into it. This will append the tea's flavor messaging with the flavoring additive.

  • The tea/coffee is weak.
  • The tea/coffee is a bit weak.
  • The tea/coffee is just right.
  • The tea/coffee is a bit strong.
  • The tea/coffee is very strong.
