Jastev is the God of Visual Art and Prophecy, and is the offspring of Imaera and Eonak.

He is the only God of Light whose company Charl regularly keeps, and the only Arkati who will speak to Gosaena at all. Given to a somber demeanor and periods of depression, Jastev's knowledge of the future is a double-edged sword, giving him warning of the consequences of the actions of the Dark Gods and their followers, yet also showing him more than any being would wish to know. It is said that having foreseen the end of the world and of all that he loves causes his darker moods. It is this kinship in prophecy with Gosaena that gives him the tolerance to discourse with her.

His patronization of the visual arts is also attributed to his knowledge of the future, since he encourages the preservation of each moment of beauty, emotion, or tragedy for those who will come after.

Jastev is the patron of mystics and seers, and his blessing is often invoked by practitioners of the arts of foretelling. While Lumnis will provide her followers with knowledge of the skills of fishing, Jastev is not averse to giving the location of the nearest fish.

Jastev's preferred humanoid manifestation is that of a pale man dressed in drab colors. His age varies from the youngest of boys to the oldest of greybeards. In manner, he is most often sad, with fits of inspiration and joy. His symbol is a black artist’s brush on a field of grey, or alternately, a silver crystal ball on a field of grey.

Shrines, Statuary, and Holy Places

Cleric Guilds

In a Prayer Room inside each Cleric Guild is a statue of Jastev. The Prayer Rooms are considered holy shrines to multiple deities.

A human of middle years stares wistfully off into the distance. In his hand he holds a slender artist's brush. His posture suggests a great sadness.

K>touch Jastev
You reach out and touch the statue of Jastev.

A warm feeling washes over you, as if Jastev smiled upon you.

Wehnimer's Landing Cleric Guild

One of the Halls of Lessons in the Wehnimer's Landing Cleric Guild is dedicated to Jastev. The statue is identical to that in the other Cleric Guilds. It is considered a holy shrine.

Slightly pitted about the middle, the altar is crafted of mottled grey stone that appears rather drab. Along its edges, however, silver has been inlaid into the stone in flowing, wave-like patterns to subtly embellish the altar with a touch of beauty. A small book lies atop the altar, its pages open.
>

The book is open to display two finely-textured yellowish white pages, an immaculate painting of a double-edged sword crossing over both. Faint silver knotwork borders each page, giving the book a delicate, beautiful appearance. The words above the sword's blade read, "There is much beauty in the world, and much beauty to come..." Beneath the words are inked in a more slower, steady hand, "Be careful if you seek to know what is to come, for with it comes much sadness that has yet to pass..."

Located in the Antechamber of Liabo is a table inset with disks depicting all of the Liabo arkati, including one for Jastev. This area is not considered a holy shrine.

A black artist's brush on a field of grey is painted on the crystal disk representing Jastev.

Ta'Illistim

The following location is considered to be a holy shrine.

[Ta'Illistim, Caear Var]
The cobblestoned var intersects from three directions, the polished granite stones gleaming in their varied hues of grey, blue and silver. Traffic flows around a small statue that stands at the center of the convergence.
Obvious paths: northeast, southeast, northwest

>look at statue
The statue appears to be of the god Jastev. Fashioned of pale grey marble, his countenance is solemn. Ageless eyes peer out from beneath a heavy brow, staring intently at a silvered crystal ball he holds in one hand, as if he can see the secrets of all the futures of every being within.

Spell Messaging

Major Sanctuary (220)
1st Somber grey mist clings to your hands and face as it obscures your vision of the world around you...

[The Artist's Sanctuary]
Multi-hued specks of paint create abstract patterns upon the grey marble floor, which leads into the smooth curve of glass walls. The ceiling is shrouded in grey mist, and images beyond the translucent walls move in a panoramic view depicting your life from birth to now. Light shifts and swirls around you, but the ever aging view of life trickles past.

Descending from the ceiling, the somber grey mist encompasses you and obscures your vision just as the future begins to unfold on the sanctuary's walls. Slowly, your world dissolves...

Well of Life (308)
1st As you sense your souls have linked together, a pattern of stars flickers faintly before you before fading away again.
Blind (311)
1st As your faith overcomes <TARGET>'s weakened defenses, you sense the tenuous, fleeting beauty of the world as the vision of the Soothsayer flows through you.
2nd <CASTER>'s face shimmers and vanishes, and, in its place, you see the image of a pale, black-haired young man. Behind him, the night sky shines, thousands of stars shimmering in incredible beauty, but his face is filled with devastating sorrow even as he gazes into the night. Suddenly, the stars blaze with searing silver brilliance, and you are blinded.
Prayer (313)
1st Turning your thoughts inward, you ask for the foresight of your deity to protect you. All hues around you gain brilliance as all shadows around you deepen, and you sense that your prayer has been granted.
3rd Brilliant white light burns in <CASTER>'s eyes.
Censure (316)
2nd For your trangressions, I will tell you your future. These are the words of the stars: all that you seek will be lost, and all that you fear will prosper until it destroys you. In the end, you will be forgotten, and nothing you have done or been will ever matter.
Raise Dead (318) / Divine Word (1640)
1st Emptying all breath from your body, you slowly still yourself and close your eyes. You reach out with all of your senses and feel a film shift across your vision. Opening your eyes, you gaze through a white haze and find images of <TARGET> floating above his prone form. Acts of <TARGET>'s past, present, and future play out before your clouded vision. With conviction and faith, you pluck a future image of <TARGET> from the air and coax he back into his body. Slowly, the film slips from your eyes and images fade away.
3rd Slowly exhaling the last syllable of his chant, <CASTER> closes his eyes for several moments. Upon opening his eyes, hundreds of images appear to hover over the prone form of TARGET. Each image is different from that of the woman that lays lifeless. With firm conviction, CASTER pulls at one of the images in the air and slowly coaxes TARGET's ghostly form back into her body. The film slips from <CASTER>'s eyes as <TARGET> is filled with the breath of life.
Divine Wrath (335)
1st As you pour your soul into an appeal to Jastev, you know that you are heard. A deep awareness of the ephemeral quality of the world fills you, and a man's low voice whispers into your ear, "This, like all things, shall pass."

Iridescent lights begin to swirl around you, each as brilliant as the finest paints an artist could buy -- malachite, lapis, ruby, saffron, umber, orchid, and a thousand other shades, as if you were wrapped in the center of a rainbow. The power of Jastev has answered your prayer.

A beam of <RANDOM> light lances away from the rainbow around you to strike <TARGET>, bathing the <TARGET> in colored radiance.

The iridescent lights surrounding you pop like soap bubbles, one by one, until the last one bursts in a small flare of starry radiance and is gone. Your connection to Jastev lessens.
