Synopsis

Click 'Expand' on the right to see! But I'll note that the synopsis is so extremely long that I believe you might as well just read the log.

The second night of the Trial of the Brotherhood of Rooks commences as Mayor Thadston calls Councilor Kiyna down. She says she has good reasons for being a Rook, the world is grey and full of shadows, and questions why good deeds done in secret are somehow lesser than those done publicly, saying some would argue the opposite.

Kiyna reminds that the Rooks saved Kharusa from Tyrrax and kept her safe from both krolvin and the Landing's own townspeople, some of whom sought action against her for acts she was coerced into while a prisoner. Kiyna says she would have protected Kharusa from the Rooks too if they had threatened her, and Kharusa named her a sister.

Kiyna continues that she didn't use her council position to advance the Rook agenda, as Casiphia didn't approve of the weapons deal with Elidal, but Kiyna's being a Rook doesn't make her a tool for Casi to use. She continues that she loudly called for action against the Ember Vale reivers, who have made themselves the enemies of the barony, and she wouldn't allow veteran warriors to slay shepherds and call it glorious war without standing in his way.

Kiyna says she's innocent of the charges, many of which are about relation to the Rooks and the "nature of the Brotherhood"--he wishes to try the Rooks, but he's actually trying individuals. Rather than association, she challenges him to point to instances of her behavior that justify the charges.

Thadston asks if she murdered a man with her hand pylon while traveling to Idolone to free Stephos DeArchon. She says no, but she'll explain. She was sailing for a trade mission and the hired ship came across wreckage which looked like the work of krolvin. She says they couldn't linger in the area, but eventually spotted a survivor in the distance, terribly wounded and weakly yelling for help.

Kiyna says rescue was out of the question since the captain refused to risk his ship and passengers in dangerous waters, and that other ships entering the area that late was unlikely, so help from others was almost certainly not coming. So she made a decision that rather than allowing the man to succumb to injuries or drown, she took his life as instantly and painlessly as she could. Kiyna says her heart goes out to him, but she does not believe she has done wrong.

Thadston mocks her idea of mercy toward putting him down like a rabid dog, then asks who Kiyna traveled with and what the purpose was. Kiyna says they were sailing to talk with Stephos since they had reason to believe he could provide information to take down the Wraith and, along with them, Ordlyn. Thadston mocks her as merciful and prave for shooting a hapless dog, brokering a deal with a wanted criminal, and returning to plot a raid on Imperial wagons.

Kiyna says Thadston's instance on framing this how he wishes doesn't change what happened nor why; he says she's pretty clearly sketched the art and carved the frame herself. Thadston asks again if she killed someone at sea; Kiyna says she already said yes and explained why and it's for the judge to decide. Kiyna says she gave the man the help he was calling for by easing his suffering, but Thadston asks if the man did anything to indicate that he was signaling for help that looked like ending him now instead of calling for rescue. She says he was mortally wounded and not capable of much gesticulation.

Moving on, Thadston asks about the deal with Stephos and acknowledges that information about the Wraith is valuable. Kiyna says she didn't broker the deal and wasn't part of arranging it; Thadston asks for confirmation that a deal was made. Kiyna says yes; Thadston asks for details; Kiyna said she wasn't part of arranging it; Thadston says he asked if she knew the details; Kiyna says so. Councilor Kayse, from the balcony, calls down that perhaps she doesn't know because Kayse is the only one who does.

Thadston asks if he's to believe she sailed south, killed a man at sea, helped connect with a wanted Imperial criminal, and didn't bother to ask what they were even risking it all for. Kiyna says the Rooks are good at keeping secrets, sometimes from each other, to prevent the spread of sensitive information, and suggest that he ask the one who brokered the deal for details.

Thadston asks on what authority she underwent this mission, as a Rook or Councilor; she says a Rook and she doesn't carry her desk with her wherever she goes.

Thadston asks what the plans with the map, the supply lines, and the wagon routes were. Kiyna says they didn't get a chance to make plans and backs up what Pukk said previously, that they had to assume the Remnants had the map, then the mayor burst in before much was discussed. Thadston asks what she thinks would have been the outcome: stowing away and protecting the wagons? Kiyna says nothing involving violence against anyone but Remnants.

Thadston says Mother had been speaking of starving Imperials and hitting their food and asks if that wasn't about to happen, then questions the idea of violence not being their ways while saying mercy kills men at sea begging for their lives. Kiyna says Mother is not on trial and tells Thadston to catch her and let her defend herself; Thadston says she most certainly will be on trial.

Thadston asks Kiyna if she ever conspired with Kayse, Leafiara, Chandrellia, or Pukk about plans to replace town councilors with other Rook members; Kiyna says not in the least bit. Thadston says he's done.

Jeshiah begins his followup, asking Kiyna why she thinks the Brotherhood of Rooks exists. Kiyna says to do things others will not. Jeshiah asks why they do them, to what end accomplished; Kiyna says it's for the betterment of the Landing and, and although Thadston doesn't appreciate it, he's collaborated with the Rooks before, as has Marshal Stormyrain like she attested the first night. Jeshiah asks if it's true that the Mayor pardoned Casiphia, the Mother of the Rooks, and she affirms it.

Jeshiah asks Kiyna if she feels that instances of the Mayor and Marshal conspiring with the Rooks held equal or greater risk than her mission to Idolone. She says she thinks so: all action carries risk, and yet many groups and individuals act to defend and better the Landing. Jeshiah asks why she's on trial tonight, then, and not them; she says she's not sure, though maybe it's because Casiphia escaped. Jeshiah says that if he recounted the adventure to Idolone and replaced Kiyna's name with Thadston or Stormyrain, we might be at Helga's sharing lagers.

With Jeshiah's questions finished, Kiyna calls her first character witness, Councilor Vaemyr. Vaemyr says he took Kiyna in several years ago oaff the streets to live with him and provide her an education, helping her learn to be an adventurer and who she was. He considers her family and feels he knows her character, saying she's a good person, one of the best the Landing has to offer, who would put any innocent--Landing, Imperial, or otherwise--ahead of her own well-being. (Thadston interjects: not any Imperial, not the ones at sea.

Vaemyr didn't know she was a Rook, although maybe he was in denial since love can make us not see things we should--glancing at Thadston and considering Casiphia--but even with his eyes open now, he doesn't think her association changes who she is. He still believes that if Mother had ordered Kiyna or the Rooks to harm innocent lives, she would have helped put a stop to them.

Vaemyr says he's not sure he always agreed with their methods, but the Rooks have changed since the defeat of the Knave; they've not been raiding, our dockworkers seem happy, and they defend the Landing from krolvin, rebellious armigers, Gnul's armies, reivers, spiders, and fire elementals. He says their only guilt in those years has been not changing their name.

Vaemyr says that about a year ago, when he was attacked by a Rook arrow, he told Thadston the location of the door and panel leading to Mother's Den. He says Thadston could have used his kroderine arms to break in at any time and asks why he didn't, then says he thinks that, deep down, Thadston knew the Rooks were needed too. Jeshiah asks if Vaemyr was almost the original Samfelt.

Thadston asks what constitutes an innocent person. Vaemyr says he knows where Thadston's going and guesses it can mean different things; Thadston says that knowing where he's going answers his question well enough, so he poses a different one: what would Vaemyr do if he were at sea on a secret mission to talk to a criminal and a man at sea begged for help. He says he'd try to convince the captain to rescue him, and if that failed then portal him onto the ship. However, if he had a choice to watch someone suffer and die or try to let them pass painlessly, he'd choose the latter.

Kiyna calls her next character witness, Lylia. She recalls the first time she spoke with Kiyna in passing in Icemule, describing her character as forthright, idealistic, and charitable. She moves to later in time, saying that Kiyna sought her opinion before the past town council elections, wondering if she were mad for considering a run; Lylia says that Kiyna described herself as not a political person, having seem the Landing from the streets and not Moot Hall, and had a great concern over whether she'd be able to do enough for the people. She says Kiyna was moved by the chance to be a voice for the voiceless and asks how one can reconcile that altruism with the ill-favored portrait of a treasonous hooligan painted by the prosecution and argues she finds it difficult to do so.

Lylia invites questions, saying that further discussion might bring us to a more accurate, nuanced portrait of a complex individual. Thadston says she's seen many faces of the Rooks--Drangell, Rysus, Alendrial, and Mother alike--then asks if Lylia thinks they're different now. She says yes and adds that they've each been different: Drangell's Rooks were vermin while Alendrial's Rooks were chaotic but good-hearted. Lylia says she believes the Remnants have drained away much of the venom.

Thadston asks if she'd say Rysus would kill for convenience, not blinking if murder meant a successful mission, like the Remnants. Lylia says yes, but Rysus also wasn't a wanton murderer; he held a knife to her back once and did not press it home, so she does not think he would kill unless something greater than one life were at stake. Thadston asks, then, where Kiyna fits in: is she like a current Rook or more like a Remnant. Lylia says she's Kiyna, but more Rook than Remnant in her estimation--idealistic and possibly ideologically driven.

Thadston challenges the idea of Kiyna being forthright when she didn't disclose she was a Rook when she ran for council and being charitable when she blasted a man at sea. Jeshiah asks if he even has authority to press on an incident at sea; Thadston says he's not seeking a murder charge since the helpless man was presumably not a Landing citizen. Lylia says even true jewels among us have many facets, including some hidden; Thadston says he's trying to illustrate that the Rooks are just making excuses for criminal behavior and intentions and he has no further questions.

Jeshiah asks Kiyna for a final statement; she says Mayor Andrews is correct about the town being fractured and she wouldn't have it said that she didn't try to mend that division, so she extends an offer that if he'll apologize to her for extra-legal execution, she'll drop charges against him. He laughs and tells her to piss off to the balcony.

Chandy is up next and asks Judge Manard if he can keep Thadston on topic with no names or blasphemy, as she feels he's too emotionally involved due to Casiphia being his ex-lover who's evaded him twice. Manard laughs at the idea of controlling Thadston. Chandy opts to forego an opening statement and get to questions first.

Thadston commences: was she on the boat to Idolone? Chandy asks why that's relevant when it's not what she's being tried for and Thadston says it pertains to the dealings of the Rooks; Manard agrees and tells her to answer the question, so she says yes. Thadston asks how skilled of a healer she'd consider herself; she says enough to keep someone alive should she have the opportunity. He questions the incident with the sailor then; she repeats she needs the opportunity. Thadston asks if Chandy's saying that Kiyna was just too fast on the draw; she says not to bait her into prosecuting someone else who he already questioned.

Thadston asks if Chandy didn't have the opportunity to heal the sailor; she says she didn't. He says she's given a non-answer and asks why she wasn't given the opportunity; she says they tried and the captain refused. She references a suggestion from Tayler on the balcony earlier that Kiyna should have pointed the hand pylon at the captain instead, but Chandy questions what the outcome would be; Thadston says a complacement captain and a rescued sailor; she says perhaps in a perfect world; he says that's something honorable he'd expect of a Gryphon, not the Rooks.

Thadston next asks if Chandy was a Rook before she ran for office. She says perhaps and her memory is bad lately. Thadston says she campaigned heavily for the town council with Leafi and asks if the two of them know they were each Rooks when they ran for office. Chandy says she's unaware when Leafi joined the Rooks since it was something she never hid; Thadston concludes that they were both Rooks when they ran for office, but she says she doesn't recall the timeline.

A town clerk rushes in and hands Jeshiah a note that has him grinning, but the trial proceeds.

Thadston asks why Chandy thinks Amos is an enemy of the town; she tells him to stay on topic since that has nothing to do with why she's on trial; Thadston says it is on topic and Manard tells her to answer the question. Chandy says Amos boasted about his dealings, brought endangered animals to be let loose and hunted down while injured, and attacked citizens including Thadston and Casiphia. Thadston asks if she would ever broker a deal with Amos or if that's off the table; Chandy says she'd put aside her dislike and do what needed to be done if it meant saving the lives of citizens she helps heal every day.

Thadston asks what if Amos had been shipping weapons to krolvin that killed citizens of Wehnimer's, would she still broker a deal then? Chandy says Thadston would hang him and banish him, so there'd be no need. Thadston says that brokering a deal with Stephos and risking the Landing without details sounds like Chandy's been used, but asks by who: the Rooks, just Kayse, or maybe even Amos all along.

Manard asks if Chandy has any witnesses to call; she says she did, but won't call on that person and instead extends an open invitation to anyone in the balcony. Tikba] answers the call and says she's known Chandrellia since coming to the Landing and they don't always agree, but she's dedicated to aiding those in need and she trusts her to do what is right.

As she finishes up, voices begin to ring from outside Moot Hall: "We're all Rooks! We're all Rooks! We're all Rooks!"

Jeshiah says Chandy has been a pillar of this town and membership within the Rooks is not a crime as the rallying cry outside continues--and then gathered townspeople on the balcony join in. Manard asks if Chandy has a closing statement and she does--but, first, two dozen townspeople from a variety of professions burst into the chamber with the "We're all Rooks!" cry and a demonstration with nooses around their necks. Manard calls for order and Chandy requests them to stop, saying that all will be righted through the process. Town guards and militia escort them out and they leave peacefully.

Chandy gives her closing statement: do we not wish to see peaceful change and all citizens defending our walls in time of need? Change has to start someplace and she says to allow them to prove that the current Rooks are not those of old, not the Remnants who murder in the streets or extort merchants.

She says the Rooks stand accused of crimes against the Imperialists, yet no one accusing were in the room when Thadston busted in and pointed fingers without asking questions. Chandy says Thadston took Samfelt's word even though he's been lying since he arrived in town and says the Rooks gave him safety when Bodohal was looking for him. She raises suspicions that, during his quick rise with the Baron-to-be, maybe Samfelt told stories about others as well to boost himself further and perhaps send soldiers to their doors in time too.

People still gathered at the balcony begin the "We're all Rooks!" chant againb before being escorted away, but Chandy continues: she faces questions of loyalty and self-gain, but nothing she's done was for self-gain, but for the interest of the Landing. Chandy says that she's not asking anyone to understand or begging anyone for forgiveness, but she does what she thinks is right at the time and will stick by that no matter what.

Regardless of how people judge her, Chandy says she'll continue to heal whoever needs it. She asks how many times Thadston has made deals with the Rooks, why Vlashandra was allowed to go free, why Tyrrax was allowed to go free, and yet Rooks were hanged before a trial. Chandy says to judge them as they wish, but she won't change who she is nor how she treats any of them, as a healer working without expectations.

Jeshiah gives Manard a note and Manard says that concludes the trial for tonight and asks who's left to try; Thadston says Leafi and Drektor, and he also wishes to call Samfelt as a witness. Manard says Jeshiah also has a final witness to call: Casiphia. With that said and business concluded, everyone departs for the night.

Juramis huskily asks, "Who was being called to testify at the end of last evening's proceedings? It was another one of the Rooks, wasn't it?"
Speaking to Juramis, Kiyna says, "It was me."
Juramis huskily asks, "Oh, you are a Rook?"
Speaking slowly to Juramis, Leafiara says, "Yes, this is the trial of the Rooks..."
Juramis huskily says, "Is it Thadston's intention to go peacefully from office? He wasn't peaceful in it."
Tikba says, "He said he would abide by the election, after he said he might not allow them."
Kialeigh says, "He's trying to cast doubt on her character."
Speaking to Kialeigh, Kippe observes, "He's doing a fine job."
Nairena says, "I fought alongside Kiyna a few times. That character is very safe."
Kialeigh asks, "Where is THIS guy when he's throwing chairs out windows? How many Thadstons are there?"
Thadston asks, "Did you ever conspire or discuss with Kayse, Leafiara, Chandrellia, or Pukk about the plans to replace town councilors with other Rook members?"
Speaking blandly to Kayse, Tikba deadpans, "Did we conspire with Kiyna?"
Speaking to Tikba, Kayse says, "Last time I checked....no."
Jeshiah asks, "So it is true, that Mayor Thadston at times has brokered deals with the Rooks?"
Speaking to Jeshiah, Kiyna says, "That is true, yes. Last year, he collaborated with the Rooks to escort Tyrrax to the Black Sands."
Jeshiah says, "Oh I believe even on other occasions too."
Kiyna nods.
Leafiara says, "By whatever mad twists of fate got us to this point, Thadston's still struck more deals with the Rooks than I have and somehow calls me the Rook Queen."
Vaemyr candidly says, "And I think Thadston knows this too... I told him about a year ago, the night I was attacked and felled by a Rook arrow, the location of the very door and panel that would lead to the Rook Den. A year ago. Sure he may not have had the password at the time, but everyone here has seen his arms. He could of broken in there and raided it at any point since that time. He had probable cause in looking into an attack, and he knew where. So why didn't he? Because I think deep down he knows they were needed too."
Jeshiah asks, "You were almost the original Samfelt?"
Speaking to Jeshiah, Vaemyr says, "I wasn't a rook first."
Thadston asks, "Now you are?"
Speaking to Thadston, Vaemyr says, "I would honestly never join them even if they asked."
Thadston asks, "Membership card already full?"
Dendum yells, ""The Vaemyr is not on trial and the Thadston doesn't have enough days left to try him!"
Leafiara says, "Philosophy's usually Vaemyr's strength. This could be interesting."
Tikba glances skeptically at Leafiara.
Speaking offhandedly to Tikba, Leafiara says, "I didn't say consistency."
Speaking to Judge Manard, Chandrellia says, "That Mayor Andrews stays on topic and what is actually being tried. No names, no blasphemy, just to stay on point, I feel, that he is to emtionally involved, as Casi is indeed his ex lover and she has evaded him twice."
Nairena asks, "Really?"
Nairena asks, "Isnt that like a conflict of interest?"
Nairena says, "Naughty Thaddy."
Juramis huskily says, "Conflict and interest are two staples of Wehnimer's politics, and most other things around here."
Thadston says, "You were once a town councilor."
Thadston asks, "Were you a Rook before you ran for office?"
Speaking to Thadston, Chandrellia says, "Perhaps, it's been a bit of time, and well, my memory is just so bad lately."
Thadston says, "Sure, you know, with all the depravity. Rots the brain."
Speaking to Thadston, Chandrellia asks, "Are you holding a mirror?"
Chandrellia says, "I will not divulge what is perceived by others, I am unaware of when Leafiara actually joined the Rooks, as it was something she never hid, so as far as time, I am not sure."
Thadston asks, "So she did not hide her membership?"
Speaking to Thadston, Chandrellia asks, "Have you seen her store?"
Evia says, "Don't fret about any hangings now, everyone will be long dead of old age before we ever finish."
Speaking to Leafiara, Lylia says, "I am fairly sure you were not a Rook when we ran against one another for the mayoral office; if you had been, I would have made far more hay of it."
Speaking to Lylia, Leafiara says, "I wasn't even a Rook yet when I ran for the town council. Chandy just doesn't recall."
Leafiara adds, "...not that it stopped countless people from assuming I was one for years before joining."
Juramis huskily says, "That will probably clear her of any conspiracy charges."
Juramis huskily says, "But maybe not you."
Juramis grins at Leafiara.
Leafiara gazes in amusement at Juramis.
Leafiara says, "I already planned on agreeing to guilt on conspiracy anyway."
Leafiara winks at Juramis.
Voices shout from outside. "We're all Rooks! We're all Rooks! We're all Rooks!"
Leafiara murmurs, "Seems I was a few days late on my prediction of when people would begin protesting in our favor."
Irval says, "This is what I like to call, intimidation."
Leafiara says, "Or early, maybe. One of those. The *hour* is what's late."
Speaking to Irval, Dendum says, ""Really? Dendum calls giant outpost full of soldiers ready to attack intimidation...but if the Irval thinks some shouting is intimidation...sure.."
Voices shout from outside. "We're all Rooks! We're all Rooks! We're all Rooks!"
Tikba mildly says, "Some other character witnesses may have arrived."
Some of the gathered townspeople shout, "We're all Rooks! We're all Rooks! We're all Rooks!"
Bursting into the Chamber of Justice comes a group of two dozen townspeople. They are a variety of professions, some stained in soot from the mines, others with their hair still powdered with sugar. Some still have bits of fish clinging to their clothes, while others' hands are more calloused than a soldier. They all wear nooses around their necks, but no masks. "We're all Rooks! We're all Rooks!"
Irval says, "Yeah no reason to add more Rooks to the council when you can just supplant the mayor with someone who was Banished and has more skeletons in her closet than a graveyard."
Speaking to Judge Manard, Chandrellia asks, "Your honor? May I request something of the court for tomorrow's trials?"
The Judge says, "No." He walks off to bed.
Chandrellia says, "Hmmm well ok, if a brawl breaks out, well, that's on him."
Mayor Thadston just marched stiffly through a modwir arch.
Leafiara yells, "See ya tomorrow!"
Leafiara says, "Aw, he left before he could hear it."
Tikba says, "I am sure his mood will improve tomorrow when he sees his paramour again."

Kiyna calmly asserts, "Just like the Mayor said I would in his opening statement, I am going to stand here before you all and tell you I have good reasons for being a Rook. But none of it is a lie. This world is full of grey, and full of shadows. Those who walk within them are not inherently bad."
Kiyna continues, "Thadston's rhetoric, righteous man that he is, suggests he has no love for shadows. Why is that? Are good deeds done in secret somehow lesser than those done where all can see? Some would argue the opposite. I seek no recognition for my good deeds as a Rook, but since they have been called into question, I shall defend them."
Kiyna explains, "Kayse offered a rather exhaustive list of our actions just last night, but I could remind you of one. When Tyrrax landed on our shores, we took Kharusa away from him, and kept her safe. She is a girl who has only ever known slavery, and I would not see her used by others again."
Kiyna proudly states, "I protected her from krolvin. I protected her from our own townspeople, some of whom sought swift 'justice' for coerced acts. Had the Rooks threatened her or her freedom, I would protect her from them, too. And I did all this according to her own will. She named me sister - you may ask her yourself. Yes, I did this in secret. Secrecy kept her safe from the prying eyes of our enemies."
Kiyna proudly states, "I loudly called for action against the reivers of the Ember Vale. They have made themselves the enemies of the Barony and asked us to stand aside. The sinister Rook you conjure in your mind would happily step back and allow their enemies to whittle each other away. Kiyna Zetaya, however, will not stand by while veteran warriors hew down shepherds and call it glorious war. Haidan has chosen his road, and so long as he walks it toward the Landing or the settlers, I shall stand in his way."
Kiyna continues, "Rescue was out of the question. The captain refused to put his own ship and passengers at risk in these dangerous waters. Other ships entering the area that late at night was unlikely, and they would have the same safety concerns that ours did. Help was almost certainly not coming."
Kiyna sadly says, "So I made a decision. Rather than allow him to painfully succumb to his injuries or drown, I used my pylon, and took his life as instantly and painlessly as I could. My heart goes out to the man, truly, but I do not believe I have done wrong."
Kiyna sincerely admits, "Others will agree or disagree with my decision at their discretion. My action was my own. There was not much time to think, but I did it with good intentions. Condemn me for this if you like, but I would ask the Judge whether he believes this constitutes murder."
Thadston asks, "What are the details of the deal?"
Speaking to Thadston, Kiyna says, "I just said I wasn't part of arranging it."
Thadston says, "I never asked if you arranged it."
Thadston says, "I asked if you knew the details."
Speaking to Thadston, Kiyna says, "Not particularly."
Kayse yells, "Perhaps she doesn't know because I am the only one who does."
Thadston asks, "Am I to believe you sailed south, killed a man at sea, helped connect with a wanted imperial criminal, but you didn't bother to ask what you were even risking it all for?"
Thadston says, "I thought you smarter than that."
Speaking to Thadston, Kiyna says, "The Rooks are good at keeping secrets. Sometimes from each other. To prevent the spread of sensitive information, yes. That's rather the whole point."
Kayse yells, "Perhaps she doesn't know because I am the only one who does."
Juramis can offer Kayse only a blank expression.
Speaking indifferently to Juramis, Kayse says, "It is true."
Speaking huskily to Kayse, Juramis says, "If that is true, then you and that Samfelt fellow have more in common than you think based on the rumors I've heard about him. You've just done it to different people, for different reasons."
Jeshiah asks, "Do you feel at each of these instances, the Mayor and Marshal conspiring with the Rooks, held equal or greater risk than your mission to Idolone?"
Speaking to Jeshiah, Kiyna says, "Yes, I think so. All action carries risk. And yet, the Rooks, the Mayor, and the Gryphons, and all others, act to defend and better the Landing."
Jeshiah asks, "So then why are you on trial tonight and not them?"
Speaking to Jeshiah, Kiyna says, "I'm really not sure. It doesn't seem to me that I've done anything terrible."
Speaking to Jeshiah, Kiyna adds, "Although, perhaps it's because Casiphia escaped."
Jeshiah says, "Truth be told, if I recounted your adventure to Idolone and simply replaced your name with Thadston or Stormyrain, we might all be at Helga's sharing lagers instead."
Stormyrain mutters, "Except I would not have gone to Idolone, and shot a helpless sailor."
Vaemyr greets, "Judge Manard, Mayor Thadston, everyone in the balcony, Greetings. I debated long and hard if my words would mean anything tonight. I will be up front, I took Kiyna in several years ago off the streets to live with me, I helped provide her an education... much to her rejection sometimes, found her instructors to help her learn to be an adventurer, and gave her a chance to learn whom she was."
Vaemyr proudly says, "I consider her family. But with this, I feel I probably know her character better than any other person in this room. She is a good person, one of the best the Landing has to offer. She would put any innocent, landing, imperial, and others ahead of her own well being. Much to my own dismay. But that is just who she is. She's the girl that'll be on the streets helping an old lady carry home her groceries, but later that night, be out helping defend settlers from attacks who couldn't defend themselves."
Vaemyr clearly says, "I thought long and hard about things when I discovered she was a Rook that night. And no I didn't know before hand, albeit perhaps I was just in denial. Love for those we care about can make us not see things we probably should."
Vaemyr glances at Thadston.
Lylia continues, "To that end, let me tell you of the character I have witnessed from the time we first spoke in passing on the streets of Icemule Trace."
Lylia says, "Forthright. Idealistic. Charitable."
(Lylia ticks them off on her fingers as she lists the words.)
Lylia admits, "Virtues I largely lack, in fact."
Lylia says, "During the past Town Council elections, Kiyna sought my opinion; she wondered if she were mad for considering a run."
Lylia says, "She was not, she said, a 'political person,' having seen Wehnimer's Landing from the streets and not from the lofty windows of Moot Hall."
Lylia says, "One of her greatest concerns was whether she would be able to do enough for the people, for the town itself. It was not the opportunity for aggrandizement or gain that moved her but the chance to be a voice for the voiceless."
Speaking to Thadston, Lylia asks, "How does one reconcile this altruism with the ill-favored portrait of a treasonous hooligan that the prosecution might paint?"
Lylia confesses, "I find it difficult to do so in her case."
Lylia says, "Perhaps with further discussion, we could come to a more accurate, nuanced portrait of a complex individual, one who is not the simple criminal suggested."
Thadston says, "Amos makes you feel sad and hurt, kicked your friend out of office, caged some puppies. But Stephos...blood on his hands, but let's go broker a deal and risk the Landing but get no details. Sounds like you've been used. But by who? The Rooks in general? Just Kayse? Maybe it was Amos all along."
Chandrellia asks, "To the people of Landing and before this court. Do we not wish to see a peaceful change come to Landing? Do we not wish to see all citizens defending our walls in time of need?"
Chandrellia says, "If change is what you seek, then it has to start someplace. Are we not allowed to show that the current Rooks are indeed not, what was once thought of? We are not the Remnants, we do not wish to see murder in our streets, or extort merchants for silver in return for protection. The days of Rysus are over, allow us a chance to prove that."
Chandrellia says, "We stand here accused of crimes against the Imperialists, yet none of you or those accusing us were there in that room the night Thadston so conveniently displayed his charismatic charm of busting in and pointing fingers without first asking questions. Instead he took the word of a man that has been lying since he arrived in town."
Chandrellia says, "The Rooks gave this man safety, when Bodohal was looking for him as he told us he was in danger from this man. So either he lied about that as well, or perhaps he did do something that he was hiding that gave cause for him to be looked for."
Chandrellia says, "How quickly he gained status with the Baron-to-be, perhaps he gave the Baron stories about several of you as well to boost his position, that perhaps in due time will send the Imperial soliders to your front doors."
Chandrellia says, "Those of us that stand accused have given just as much of ourselves for this town as most of you. Yet I am questioned as to my loyalty to the town and whether I was doing it for self gain."
Chandrellia says, "Nothing I have done was for self-gain. The choices I made as councilor were not for self gain, they were for the best interest of Landing at the time. In my personal feeling, I felt I was doing the right thing. I am not asking for anyone to understand, I am not begging anyone for my forgiveness. I did what I *thought* was right at the time and I will stick by that no matter what."

Idle Chatter

[Town Square Central]

This is the heart of the main square of Wehnimer's Landing. The impromptu shops of the bazaar are clustered around this central gathering place, where townsfolk, travellers, and adventurers meet to talk, conspire or raise expeditions to the far-flung reaches of Elanith. At the north end, an old well, with moss-covered stones and a craggy roof, is shaded from the moonlight by a strong, robust tree. The oak is tall and straight, and it is apparent that the roots run deep. You also see some sprinkled leaf-shaped cookies, the fiery red Oishian disk, a ruby-throated teal hummingbird, a pink-handed dusty brown marmoset, the flaming Nairena disk, a grieving wasteland spirit that is flying around, a sleek raven black kitten masked in stormy grey fur, a vengeful mountain spirit that is flying around, the Kelfyr disk, a grizzled porcupine, the Kialeigh disk, the repousse copper Perigourd disk raised in leafy designs, an amber-eyed tawny range wolf that is sitting, a sleek charcoal cat, a sinuous bone white serpent, the Chamorr disk, a large acorn, a large acorn, the Ussey disk, a silver-traced carved mahogany cart with some stuff on it, an old well, some wide stone benches with some stuff on it, an herbal remedy donation bin and a round silver-banded barrel.

Also here: Kavelath, Oishian, Lord Kirenn, Lady Nairena, Lord Witfog, Tikba, Imperatrix Lylia, Miss Chandrellia, Irval, Grand Lord Arahnim, Markx, Takaeshi, Intellix, Kelfyr, Kialeigh, Whimweaver Leafiara, Town Councilor Kiyna who is sitting, Perigourd, Stormyrain, Kippe, Sir Cryheart, Lord Thyrabos, Wartuvas, Town Councilor Vaemyr, Great Lord Krendarr, Lord Herod, Chamorr, Ussey who is kneeling

The sky begins to fill with huge clouds, dark and grey on the bottom, pale and white atop, their puffy crowns ascending toward the heavens.

Kialeigh says, "If you get the stocks... I brought eggs..."

Leafiara says, "Better keep my lute out of the rain."

Kialeigh exclaims, "Magic healing cupcakes!? Mine is half chewed!"

Aerocus quietly says, "That was way to close."

Kialeigh says, "I need a refund."

Speaking to Kialeigh, Witfog asks, "Don't you feel happier?"

Witfog offers Kialeigh a miniature chocolate cupcake with cherry blossom icing flowers.

Witfog says, "Have another."

Speaking to Witfog, Kialeigh says, "I feel like I want more cupcakes."

Kialeigh accepts Witfog's chocolate cupcake.

Kialeigh says, "Now I'm happy."

Kialeigh exclaims, "They work!"

Speaking to Guennwhfar, Nairena says, "Slowpoke."

Witfog says, "Chocolate is my favorite."

Witfog helps himself to a plump chocolate orb.

Witfog taps a plump chocolate orb, which is in his right hand.

Witfog says, "I am saving the orbs for the hanging."

Kialeigh says, "Now I shall buy a half loaf of bread cause I can't afford anything else...."

Chandrellia says, "Here we go."

Nairena exclaims, "Its time!"

Speaking to Guennwhfar, Nairena says, "Trial time."

Nyaria quietly says, "I know well about cupcake magic."

Leafiara says, "Well, suppose there's no harm in getting there early."

Kialeigh asks, "When's it supposed to start?"

Nyaria quietly exclaims, "Cupcake magic!"

Witfog says, "Oh my."

Witfog says, "Amazing."

Leafiara recites:

"Tonight's trial proceedings can be watched from the Observation Balcony above the Chamber of Justice in Moot Hall, for all interested!"

Kialeigh says, "No no no..."

Speaking to Guennwhfar, Nairena says, "Im going to watch the trial in Moot Hall."

Leafiara recites:

"See some of you there!"

Awaiting Trial

[Moot Hall, Observation Balcony]

Several rows of hardwood benches line the balcony, each row a bit higher than the previous one in order to provide a view of the proceedings below from every seat. A polished oak railing forms the front barrier of the viewing area, and a narrow stairway leads down. You also see a sleek raven black kitten masked in stormy grey fur.

Also here: Whimweaver Leafiara, Miss Chandrellia who is sitting, Perigourd, Imperatrix Lylia who is sitting, Oishian, Tikba who is sitting, Town Councilor Kayse, Astrilyn, Dame Evia, Chamorr, Sir Cryheart, Town Councilor Vaemyr, Sarissa Tayler who is sitting, Town Councilor Kiyna, Missoni

A town clerk shouts nearby, "The second night of the trial of the Rooks will begin shortly in the observation balcony above the Chamber of Justice inside of Moot Hall."

Witfog says, "I heard that there will be desserts."

Witfog says, "And ice coffee."

Speaking to Witfog, Leafiara says, "In a room this full, probably a safe assumption."

Kialeigh says, "And alcohol worth being struck by lightning for."

Witfog says, "Superb."

Witfog says, "Then i'm in the correct spot."

Evia says, "Roasted neckbones."

Nairena says, "I brought some scotch."

Chamorr heartily says, "Whos da judge."

Speaking to Chamorr, Chandrellia says, "Manard."

Some gathered townspeople arrive as the floorboards creak.

Kialeigh says, "I should have brought some very saucy wings with me and just sat over here licking my fingers and making loud munching noises throughout."

Nairena raspily says, "Yum."

Speaking to Kiyna, Chandrellia says, "You'll do fine, I have faith in you."

Speaking to Chamorr, Leafiara says, "Manard."

Cryheart says, "Judge Manard."

Lord Juramis just trudged up a narrow stairway. [OOC note: as usual with the trial, I'll leave all his actions in but not bold them since he's background flavor]

Chamorr heartily says, "Ahhh."

Cryheart nods curtly to Juramis.

Juramis nods to Cryheart in greeting.

Speaking to Juramis, Vaemyr says, "Evening Juramis."

Cryheart says, "Evening, Lord Juramis."

Juramis huskily says, "Good evening, once again."

Juramis pets a huge orange cat, which nuzzles his hand softly.

Chamorr heartily says, "Amos appointed henchman, what could go wrong."

Speaking to Chamorr, Chandrellia says, "I have nothing to hide, so the judge nae matters to me."

Speaking to Nyaria, Nairena says, "Rare rolton."

Nyaria quietly says, "There is a gross lack of refreshments."

Speaking to Chamorr, Vaemyr says, "And Thadston approved, we pressed him several times about a judge election as a council, never got traction."

Jeshiah arrives, whistling.

Speaking to Nyaria, Kelfyr says, "Trials do tend that way."

Speaking quietly to Kelfyr, Nyaria says, "Thats why i bring my own."

Speaking to Chamorr, Nairena says, "I had to raid the scotch at the Drakes Pad."

Speaking to Juramis, Kiyna says, "I am."

Speaking quietly to Chandrellia, Nairena asks, "Have they called you to the stand yet?"

Speaking to Juramis, Vaemyr says, "Everyone on trial is a Rook..."

Juramis chuckles to himself.

Speaking huskily to Vaemyr, Juramis asks, "That is what you think?"

Juramis shrugs.

Juramis huskily says, "Is it Thadston's intention to go peacefully from office? He wasn't peaceful in it."

Juramis smirks.

Thrassus says, "I would say so."

Tikba says, "He said he would abide by the election, after he said he might not allow them."

Kiyna dryly says, "Ah, excellent. Dramatic thunder. Right on cue."

Tikba says, "You must judge for yourself."

Speaking to Juramis, Lylia says, "I would imagine so, yes. Most elected officials understand that, when the vote does not go their way, it is time to move on."

Mayor Thadston just marched stiffly through a modwir arch.

Town Councilor Kayse just climbed down a narrow stairway.

Thadston squints.

Kayse glances at Thadston.

Kayse whispers something to Thadston.

Thadston glances at Kayse.

Kayse nods once at Thadston.

Town Councilor Kayse just climbed up a narrow stairway.

Speaking huskily to Lylia, Juramis says, "Most places don't elect officials, or anyone for that matter."

Thadston smirks.

Speaking heartily to Pukk, Chamorr asks, "Can we throw fruit yet?"

Juramis huskily says, "So I am not sure what you mean by most."

Kayse says, "I let him know some information I received today."

Speaking to Chamorr, Pukk says, "That will come later."

Speaking to Juramis, Lylia replies, "A fair point; all that I have known here, I should say. We do not have governmental elections whence I hail, either."

Tikba politely mentions, "Yes, there is news from Vornavis. It seems their imprisoned dockmaster was in league with Bodohal, and was surprised to hear of his fate."

Speaking heartily to Juramis, Chamorr says, "That what makes the Landin unique and exceptional."

Thadston says, "Let's get this zoo started."

Kiyna's Defense

Thadston says, "Kiyna."

You see Town Councilor Kiyna Zetaya the Patron of the Indentured.
She appears to be a Mhoragian Halfling.
She is taller than average and has a lithesome, nimble build. She appears to be youthful. She has bright amber eyes and petal-soft, tanned skin. She has long, tousled red hair pulled back into a messy high ponytail and held in place with a twice-looped flyrsilk strand suspending two phoenix feathers. She has a button nose.
She has iridescent sunset red polish brushed onto her well-manicured fingernails.
She is in good shape.
She is wearing a flame-hued firewheel flower, an ascending phoenix pendant clutching a jewel in its talons, a gold-trimmed white silk mantle, a snow white satin blouse, some caramel leather gloves trimmed in shimmering copper and gold along the gauntleted cuffs, a sunset red silk split skirt, and some ember-hued satiny jacquard slippers raised on eahnor flame heels.

Kiyna nods.

Town Councilor Kiyna just climbed down a narrow stairway.

Kiyna nods to Judge Manard.

Leafiara says, "Right where he had wanted to leave off..."

Speaking to Tikba, Lylia asks, "Is this the same dockmaster who refused entry to the Elven ship bearing Lady Kasendra's remains?"

Tikba says, "He wishes to testify against the former Captain. We must see what he has to say."

Kiyna nods at Thadston.

Kiyna nods at Jeshiah.

The Judge nods.

Thadston nods at Kiyna.

Jeshiah applauds Kiyna.

Jeshiah sets about preparing himself to be as presentable as possible.

Speaking to Lylia, Tikba says, "We wondered where the archers came from, at the time. We know now they came from the Shiver."

Kiyna asks, "You'll want my statement, I take it?"

Speaking huskily to Lylia, Juramis says, "I suppose someone must vote to not use violence when things don't go their way, as well."

Juramis chuckles.

Thadston says, "I don't really want it, but you're allowed it."

Thadston says, "Proceed."

Juramis huskily says, "This is why we have swords, and shields."

Kiyna smirks at Thadston.

Kiyna takes a deep breath.

Kiyna slowly empties her lungs.

Thrassus says, "That proves he was trying to disrupt relations between the east and west, I would say."

Kiyna calmly asserts, "Just like the Mayor said I would in his opening statement, I am going to stand here before you all and tell you I have good reasons for being a Rook. But none of it is a lie. This world is full of grey, and full of shadows. Those who walk within them are not inherently bad."

Thrassus says, "Seems to be a lot of that these days."

Kiyna glances at Thadston.

Speaking wryly to Juramis, Tikba says, "I am sure the people of the Landing would not stand for such behavior."

Juramis grins at Tikba.

Kiyna explains, "Kayse offered a rather exhaustive list of our actions just last night, but I could remind you of one. When Tyrrax landed on our shores, we took Kharusa away from him, and kept her safe. She is a girl who has only ever known slavery, and I would not see her used by others again."

Kayse remarks, "Exhaustive?"

Juramis walks over to the bench and settles down.

Kiyna adds, "Thadston will also try to tell you that I have used my Councilor position to advance the Rook agenda. This is false. Actions speak louder than both words and affiliations. I was party to our weapons deal with Elidal, for stone to improve the Landing defenses. Casiphia did not approve of this. I don't care what Casiphia thinks of my council business. My being a Rook does not make me her tool to use."

Kiyna sighs.

Kiyna firmly asserts, "I am innocent of the charges that have been laid at my feet. Notice many of Mayor Andrews' charges have indicted us for our relation to the Rooks. For the 'nature of the Brotherhood'. The reason for this is simple. He wishes to try the Rooks."

Evia yawns.

Kiyna counters, "But he is not trying the Rooks. He is trying six individuals, and mere association seems to be the lion's share of the evidence of our supposed wrongdoing."

Speaking heartily to Evia, Chamorr says, "Stop that."

Kiyna calmly challenges, "I challenge Thadston to point to specific instances of my behavior that justify these heavy-handed charges. Strong charges require strong evidence."

Kiyna concludes, "That is my statement."

Kiyna folds her arms over her chest.

Witfog says, "Thank goodness for brevity."

Thadston's Questions

Thadston says, "I'm glad you asked that."

Thadston nods.

A small area of skin on Kiyna suddenly ripples.

(Kiyna bites her lip at the scarab acting up.)

Kiyna sighs.

Thadston asks, "Did you murder a man on the open seas with your handpylon when secretly traveling to Idolone to free Stephos De'Archon?"

Juramis narrows his eyes.

Dendum says, "Stephos...."

Speaking to Thadston, Kiyna says, "No. But I could explain to you what did happen."

Speaking to Thadston, Kiyna asks, "I assume you'd like to hear it?"

Thadston says, "I'm sure everyone would love to hear your spin. Go ahead."

Kiyna acquiesces, "Very well, I shall tell you what happened."

Herod asks, "DeArchon as in Alendrial's DeArchon?"

Kiyna begins, "I was sailing to Idolone, late at night, for a trade mission. The hired ship I was taking came across the wreckage of another. Recent. Large pieces of the ship still floated on the surface, burning. It looked like the work of krolvin."

Speaking to Herod, Dendum says, ""Husband to Alendrial."

Speaking to Herod, Leafiara says, "Her husband, yes."

Kiyna explains, "This meant we could not linger in the area. We sailed by in silence. As we did, a survivor was spotted a ways off the aft. Terribly wounded, clinging to a smoldering spar, weakly yelling for help."

Missoni mouths, "Trade mission."

Kiyna sighs.

Speaking to Herod, Leafiara says, "Though their, uh... history has been fraught. She's turned him over herself before, to my understanding."

Herod says, "I see. After how long though I wonder..."

Kiyna sincerely admits, "Others will agree or disagree with my decision at their discretion. My action was my own. There was not much time to think, but I did it with good intentions. Condemn me for this if you like, but I would ask the Judge whether he believes this constitutes murder."

Stormyrain asks, "Is that not..the definition of murder?"

Perigourd says, "Unbelievable."

Thrassus says, "Well goodness, how helpful."

Thadston says, "Ah, so you put him down like a horse with a broken leg. A rabid dog. Kiyna the Merciful, with her heavy handed pylon."

Thadston asks, "Tell me more about this trade mission. Who did you travel with? What was the purpose?"

Speaking to Thadston, Kiyna says, "Indeed. As I said, judge me for it if you will. I know what I did, and why."

Tayler says, "This is why it's better to own your own merchant vessels, I would not suffer any lip from a captain refusing to try and save a survivor of a shipwreck. Ships have longboats for this reason."

Chamorr heartily says, "I want a hand pylon."

Speaking to Thadston, Kiyna says, "You know everything already, yes? Very well."

Chandrellia asks, "Wasnt it Thadston himself who beat a man to near death that was locked in chains? and yet he has the audacity to say that to her?"

Irval asks, "But did he beat him to death?"

Lylia says, "Thadston is not on trial for it, however."

Tayler says, "Again, Chandrellia, Thadston is not on trial."

Speaking to Irval, Chandrellia says, "Only becasue Stormy and the otehrs stopped him."

Speaking to Tayler, Chandrellia says, "So its ok for the goose but not the Gander, I see."

Missoni notes, "There were others on that ship who could have stopped her."

Vaemyr says, "All things considered, I would not want someone to suffer if there was no way to save them. For example the people inflected by the spiders... had I any inkling of what would of happened to them, I would of tried to give them a painless death rather than watch them brutally eaten from the inside out."

Speaking to Thadston, Kiyna says, "I sailed to Idolone to talk to Stephos, yes. We had strong reason to believe he could provide us with information to take down the Wraith. And along with them, Ordlyn's terrorism of the Landing."

Jeshiah squirms.

Thadston gazes in wonder at his surroundings.

Tikba murmurs, "Trade mission."

Leafiara reminds, "...in case anyone's forgotten, you can WATCH the AREA below."

Thadston says, "Kiyna the Merciful and Brave, sail down to Idolone, pew pew a helpless and hapless dog at sea, broker a deal with a wanted criminal set to hang in Idolone, then come back home and plot a raid on imperial supply wagons."

Juramis nods in agreement at Leafiara.

Speaking to Tayler, Chandrellia says, "Yes, I see, thank you you made my point."

Speaking to Thadston, Kiyna says, "And you accuse me of spin."

Speaking to Chandrellia, Tayler asks, "If you were the lone survivor of a shipwreck, would you like to be shot in the head with a hand pylon and put down rather than be rescued?"

Thadston asks, "What part is wrong?"

Thadston asks, "The merciful or brave?"

Kiyna sighs.

Speaking to Tayler, Chandrellia asks, "Did you not hear her words, the captain refused to stop teh ship, would rather watch the man drown a slow death?"

Irval says, "Who knows if another ship would of passed by, maybe send a message out? there were clearly other alternatives."

Speaking to Thadston, Kiyna says, "Your insistence on framing this how you wish does not change what happened, or why."

Speaking to Tayler, Chandrellia asks, "Were you there that night? then what gives you teh right to judge her for how she felt at the time?"

Speaking to Irval, Chandrellia says, "Sure in a perfect world, one we dont live in."

Speaking to Chandrellia, Tayler says, "Point the hand pylon at the captain and he'd stop quick enough, rescuing other sailors is a common courtesy."

Thadston says, "No offense, but you've pretty clearly sketched the art and carved the frame yourself."

Juramis glances between Tayler and Chandrellia.

Juramis chuckles.

Thadston says, "Did you, or did you not, kill a man at sea? Regardless of your intentions."

Speaking to Thadston, Kiyna asks, "In all your time as a leader of soldiers, have you never had to put down one of your own, to spare them further suffering?"

Thadston asks, "Did you kill him?"

Speaking to Tayler, Chandrellia says, "You are insane, and the moment that happens the crew takes her prisoner and throws her over board as well."

Thadston says, "I am not on trial Councilor. You are. Now answer the question."

Speaking to Thadston, Kiyna says, "Yes. I fired the pylon. I explained why. It is for the judge, now."

Thadston asks, "So you killed him? Correct?"

Thadston asks, "Fired a pylon implies you might have missed. But you didn't miss that night did you?"

Speaking to Thadston, Kiyna says, "The krolvin killed him."

Thadston asks, "So you shot a floating corpse?"

Thadston says, "I thought you said he was alive and asking for help."

Speaking to Thadston, Kiyna says, "The krolvin destroyed his ship. Mortally wounded him. I eased his suffering. He asked for help. I granted it."

Irval says, "Dont think that was the type of help he was asking for."

Nairena says, "I would do the same."

Juramis grins.

Speaking to Irval, Chandrellia says, "Again you werent there."

Juramis huskily says, "I suppose we will never know."

Thadston says, "So the krolvin attacked, he was left wounded at sea, and you chose the mission of Stephos over a potential rescue of the wounded man. So you shot and killed him."

Perigourd says, "If I am wounded in battle defending the Landing, please do not do me the service of putting a pylon to my head."

Juramis huskily asks, "Not that his life matters in this trial. Does it?"

Tayler says, "If one of my captains refused to rescue survivors he'd be standing down there in front of the judge."

Speaking to Thadston, Kiyna says, "It was not my decision to go back and rescue him. I was not the captain of that ship."

Thadston asks, "When he asked for help, did he do anything to indicate that that help was to look like? Did he motion in a way that meant, end him now? Or perhaps did his plea for help mean a rescue when he saw a passing vessel?"

Juramis huskily says, "This is about conspiracy and treason to Wehnimer's."

Speaking to Juramis, Leafiara ponders, "I suppose that's for the judge to decide, then."

Tikba slowly says, "I think we must aid each other when we are in need."

Juramis nods in agreement at Leafiara.

Chandrellia says, "Wait."

Speaking wryly to Perigourd, Kippe teases, "How about if we use a branding iron?"

Speaking to Kippe, Perigourd says, "To stop the bleeding."

Kiyna glances incredulously at Thadston.

Chandrellia asks, "They were at sea, not within Landing Jusristuction, why is this even being brought up?"

Juramis shrugs at Chandrellia.

Speaking to Thadston, Kiyna says, "He was not capable of much in the way of gesticulation. Mortally wounded, like I said."

Thrassus says, "To show character defects, I would assume."

Nairena asks, "What ship were they on?"

Thadston nods.

Thadston says, "I'll never get you to agree, and that's okay."

Nairena asks, "An imperial or free lance ship?"

Speaking to Nairena, Dendum says, ""An important question."

Thadston says, "If nothing else, it's to illustrate the depths of which you, a Rook, will go too."

Kialeigh says, "He's trying to cast doubt on her character."

Thadston says, "Now tell me of this deal with Stephos."

Thadston asks, "You believed he could get you information about the Wraith, is that correct?"

Speaking to Kialeigh, Kippe observes, "He's doing a fine job."

Speaking to Thadston, Kiyna says, "I didn't broker the deal. I wasn't part of arranging it."

Thadston says, "I will admit, that is valuable information."

Thadston asks, "But a deal was made. Correct?"

Nairena says, "I fought alongside Kiyna a few times. That character is very safe."

Speaking to Thadston, Kiyna says, "That is my understanding, yes."

Tayler says, "I don't believe it was specified or matters, as someone who frequents the high seas, you rescue survivors, period, because the time that you need to be rescued from a shipwreck, you would hope they would do the same for you."

Thadston asks, "What are the details of the deal?"

Kialeigh asks, "Where is THIS guy when he's throwing chairs out windows? How many Thadstons are there?"

Speaking to Thadston, Kiyna says, "I just said I wasn't part of arranging it."

Speaking to Tayler, Chandrellia says, "Yeah I have yet to be rescued at sea when my ship has sunk due to Krolvin attacks."

Thadston says, "I never asked if you arranged it."

Speaking to Tayler, Dendum says, ""It matters because a council member killing Empire's Navy gives cause for Empire to move against the landing regardless of what metal-arms does this night."

Thadston says, "I asked if you knew the details."

Speaking to Thadston, Kiyna says, "Not particularly."

Kayse yells, "Perhaps she doesn't know because I am the only one who does."

Speaking amusedly to Chandrellia, Nairena says, "You have gotten a lot better at sailing and fighting, sister."

Speaking to Dendum, Chandrellia says, "It wasnt Imperial, Stormy would have seen that in the lore song."

Kiyna points at a narrow stairway.

Thadston asks, "Am I to believe you sailed south, killed a man at sea, helped connect with a wanted imperial criminal, but you didn't bother to ask what you were even risking it all for?"

Thadston says, "I thought you smarter than that."

Juramis can offer Kayse only a blank expression.

Speaking to Thadston, Kiyna says, "The Rooks are good at keeping secrets. Sometimes from each other. To prevent the spread of sensitive information, yes. That's rather the whole point."

Speaking carefully to Dendum, Tikba says, "As we are the loyal subjects of the Empire, surely there is no need for the Empire to take any action."

Speaking to Chandrellia, Tayler says, "I have been rescued many a time at sea when my sloop sank. The people at Kraken's Fall saw to me quite nicely, rescued me, healed me."

Speaking to Thadston, Kiyna says, "If you want to know the details, ask the one who brokered it."

Speaking indifferently to Juramis, Kayse says, "It is true."

Thadston says, "I would argue that recently the Rooks are horrible at keeping secrets."

Speaking to Thadston, Kiyna says, "Perhaps so. Nevertheless, I have nothing more I can tell you about that."

Aidaen says, "Maybe they're just terrible at trusting the wrong people."

Speaking flatly to Tikba, Dendum says, ""Hendoran outpost would be proof the empire can be pushed to take action."

Nairena says, "Even certain information is kept from those bellow commanders. I guess that mindset also resides with the Rooks."

Thadston asks, "Stephos DeArchon has been responsible for countless crimes against Wehnimer's Landing. Are you certain, this unknown deal you helped foster, will not endanger this town and her people?"

Nairena says, "Need to know and you dont need to know."

Tikba whispers something to Kayse.

Speaking huskily to Kayse, Juramis says, "If that is true, then you and that Samfelt fellow have more in common than you think basedon the rumors I've heard about him. You've just done it to different people, for different reasons."

Speaking to Juramis, Chandrellia says, "Do not compare her to to him."

Speaking to Juramis, Kayse asks, "Because I am the only one who knows the deal?"

Speaking to Thadston, Kiyna says, "Ah, you mentioned something similar questioning Kayse. This whole 'certainty' bit. I'm not Iliyaas. I'm not going to claim to know the future. Certainty is a foolish, useless word, and you know that well."

Speaking crisply to Juramis, Kayse says, "I am unsure how that makes me similar to Samfelt."

Juramis huskily says, "You let them go ahead, without telling them about it."

Thadston says, "But it was worth the risk to you."

Speaking to Juramis, Chandrellia says, "They trust her as leader, something that cant be said for others."

Speaking to Thadston, Kiyna says, "But no, I don't believe what was done would come back to endanger the Landing. I trust Kayse. And if it did, I would rise up to defend it. Like I always do."

Irval says, "Evil wins so long as good men and women sit by and do nothing..."

Speaking to Juramis, Kayse says, "You can make assumptions and assume what you wish."

Thadston asks, "Did you undergo this mission on what authority?"

Thadston asks, "A Rook? A Councilor?"

Irval says, "But there is a right way and a wrong way of going about that."

Jeshiah nods at Kiyna.

Juramis nods in agreement at Kayse.

Speaking to Irval, Chandrellia says, "Yeah? tell that to Thadston too."

Jeshiah exclaims, "Indeed! Like the Rooks always do!"

Evia asks, "What was the name of this vessel, Ship of Fools?"

Speaking to Thadston, Kiyna says, "As a Rook. I do not carry my desk with me where 'ere I go."

Nairena says, "Good one Kiyna."

Speaking to Thadston, Kiyna adds, "Last I checked, I don't require any approval to sail around wherever I like. I have my own boat as well."

Thadston says, "Oh, it wasn't the saling that was a problem."

Thadston says, "It's you brokering a deal with a wanted criminal."

Thadston says, "Not the best councilor platform to run on."

Speaking to Thadston, Kiyna asks, "Is he wanted if he's already in prison?\"

Juramis huskily says, "Is the other one going to talk soon? Chestnut, is it? Thadston never runs out of hot air."

Kiyna peers quizzically at Thadston.

Nairena says, "I heard Samfelt has loose lips and he holds an important position with our future new barony."

Speaking to Juramis, Chandrellia says, "Acorn, get it straight."

Thadston rolls his eyes.

Thadston says, "Then by all means..."

Thadston says, "It should be safe."

Thadston asks, "What were your plans with the map the night your love den got raided?"

Speaking to Nairena, Chandrellia says, "Yeah, its what happens you Samfelt those that helped you, you get rewarded."

Thadston asks, "With the supply lines and the wagon routes?"

Speaking to Juramis, Tayler says, "He certainly doesn't seem to be doing a particularly good job at keeping his clients from incriminating themselves."

Speaking to Tayler, Chandrellia says, "As if you could do better."

Speaking to Chandrellia, Nairena says, "I never liked that man. Nor Thadston either."

Aidaen says, "Depends who's side yer on. If yer on the empire.. he's a loyal spy.. if you're on the other.. he's a turncoat."

Speaking to Thadston, Kiyna says, "Unclear. We didn't get a chance to make plans. Like Pukk said, we had to assume the Remnants had the map, too."

Speaking to Thadston, Kiyna says, "And then a certain Mayor burst in and nothing much was discussed."

Speaking to Chandrellia, Tayler says, "I'm not a barrister, but I have one on staff."

Speaking to Tayler, Chandrellia asks, "Do you now?"

Thadston asks, "So what do you think would have been the outcome?"

Thadston asks, "Stow away the map and protect the wagons?"

Speaking to Tayler, Chandrellia says, "Good, perhaps I will ask teh judge to allow him to represent me."

Speaking to Thadston, Kiyna says, "Nothing involving violence. Against any but Remnants."

Kiyna shrugs.

Speaking to Aidaen, Dendum reminds, ""Ahh but he has betrayed all sides at least once....hard to trust a Samfelt."

Speaking to Aidaen, Leafiara reasons, "To be fair, I think there's a legitimate case coming from those who question whether Elidal should trust him either."

Speaking to Thadston, Kiyna says, "Those are not our ways."

Thadston says, "Mother speaking of starving imperials and hitting their food..."

Thadston asks, "That wasn't about to happen?"

Speaking to Chandrellia, Tayler says, "Truly? I'll have him here post haste, he does bill seven million an hour, though."

Thadston says, "Right. Violence, not your ways. Mercy kills at sea for men begging for their lives."

Speaking to Thadston, Kiyna says, "Mother is not the one on trial, and I will not defend her words. You catch her and let her defend them herself."

Thadston says, "Maybe he was a Remnant."

Speaking to Tayler, Chandrellia says, "Bill it to Thadston and his trumped up charges."

Thadston says, "Maybe it was an invading imperial and Pukk told you to pew pew it."

Speaking to Leafiara, Tikba says, "After all, Samfelt's actions have ensured his absolute trust within the encampment, as well as his safety."

Thadston says, "Mother most certainly will be on trial."

Leafiara says, "...I'll believe that one when I see it, honestly."

Thadston asks, "Were you a Rook before you ran for town council?"

Speaking idly to himself, Kippe mentions, "He'll need to catch her, first."

Speaking to Thadston, Kiyna says, "Yes."

Kialeigh says, "If he does catch her it's gonna be a very delayed trial."

Thadston nods.

Dendum asks, "Why does Thadston keep saying pew pew?"

Thadston asks, "Did you ever conspire or discuss with Kayse, Leafiara, Chandrellia, or Pukk about the plans to replace town councilors with other Rook members?"

Evia says, "Perhaps someone near him smells."

Thrassus says, "That's how folk have described firing those hand pylons in the past."

Nairena says, "Saying Pew Pew is kind of fun."

Nairena says, "Like saying Fantastical."

Speaking to Thadston, Kiyna says, "No. Not in the least bit."

Dendum says, "Ahh...thought it was some of that Faendryl it is said Thadston knows."

Kialeigh says, "Hey..."

Thadston says, "I see."

Thadston says, "I'm done."

Thadston nods at Jeshiah.

Speaking blandly to Kayse, Tikba deadpans, "Did we conspire with Kiyna?"

Kialeigh says, "I say fantastical."

Lylia whispers something to Missoni.

Speaking to Kialeigh, Nairena says, "Thats my word. I will let you say it a few times."

Jeshiah asks, "In more ways than one, right Mayor?"

Jeshiah winks.

Irval says, "I mean they voted one in though."

Speaking to Tikba, Kayse says, "Last time I checked....no."

Jeshiah's Followup with Kiyna

Jeshiah exclaims, "Kiyna!"

Speaking to Kialeigh, Nairena says, "Good minds think alike."

Kiyna turns an inquisitive ear toward Jeshiah.

Speaking to Jeshiah, Kiyna asks, "Yes?"

Kiyna glances expectantly at Jeshiah.

Speaking to Juramis, Dendum asks, ""Will the Juramis be new steward of guilds?"

Speaking to Chandrellia, Tayler says, "There he is."

Thrassus says, "Perhaps someone can send him to an actual barrister school in the future."

Jeshiah looks over some notes and shuffles some papers in his hands.

Nairena says, "I wonder. Mr Thady seems very interested in the Rooks. I wonder if hes not secretly a member."

Jeshiah asks, "Why do you think the Brotherhood of Rooks exists in the first place?"

Speaking to Thrassus, Lylia says, "That would be a fine use for all those donations to the orphanage."

Juramis huskily says, "I am content with my duties in the consortium. Politics has never suited me, from experience."

Speaking to Tayler, Chandrellia says, "Good, perhaps he'll be useful."

Speaking to Juramis, Vaemyr says, "It can be a heavy burdon."

Speaking to Jeshiah, Kiyna says, "To do things others will not. And that does not, by the way, refer to murder and mayhem, Irval."

Kiyna glances at a narrow stairway.

Speaking to Juramis, Dendum offers, ""Perhaps you would have better luck with someone who doesn't turn into a lich yes?"

Speaking softly to Chandrellia, Topps says, "I'm always useful."

Kialeigh says, "She knows yer up here thinking it."

Irval says, "Apparently."

Speaking to Topps, Chandrellia says, "I am well aware, I have worked with you in the past."

Nairena says, "The town needs the Rooks to do things that other organizations would rather not stain their hands with."

'Jeshiah asks, "Why do you do these things, that others will not?"

Jeshiah asks, "What do you accomplish in the end?"

Speaking to Jeshiah, Kiyna says, "We walk in the shadows at times. Thadston does not appear to appreciate it, but he has collaborated with us before. As has Marshal Stormyrain, as she attested yesterday."

Jeshiah says, "My oh my, that is a very interesting statement."

Speaking firmly to Jeshiah, Kiyna says, "It is all for the betterment of the Landing. Always."

Jeshiah says, "Or dare I say..."

Jeshiah spins to the balcony.

Jeshiah exclaims, "A fact!"

Speaking to himself, Dendum says, ""Maybe we can get the cat to be steward of guilds....will be just as useful as current steward."

Evia says, "Mmm vigilantism."

Speaking to Vaemyr, Kayse says, "We all could of hired someone else."

Jeshiah asks, "So it is true, that Mayor Thadston at times has brokered deals with the Rooks?"

Jeshiah peers quizzically at Kiyna.

Speaking to Kayse, Vaemyr says, "I... offered to hire someone for her..."

Speaking to Evia, Nairena says, "Checks and balances you mean."

Jeshiah asks, "Is it true, the Mayor has in the past pardoned Casiphia the "Mother" of the Rooks?"

Jeshiah peers quizzically at Kiyna.

Juramis huskily says, "I don't have anything left in Brisker's Cove, so I am doing what I can to work with those who helped me stay alive when the krolvin attacked. Lord Amos and myself lost a great deal when the Iron Docks were destroyed by them, but I am grateful for having a position in the Consortium."

Speaking to Jeshiah, Kiyna says, "That is true, yes."

Nairena says, "Hard to get away to anything to daring when you know you are always being watched."

Juramis nods at Dendum.

Jeshiah asks, "And the Marshal herself has worked with them at times...you said yes?"

Jeshiah peers quizzically at Kiyna.

Speaking to Jeshiah, Kiyna says, "I wouldn't deign to speak for the Marshal. I am only repeating what she said last night, and no more."

Speaking to Juramis, Tayler says, "I'd be more than happy to rent you one of my Vornavis vineyards, it's a bit of a fixer upper and it has a slight... dog problem."

Juramis looks over at Tayler and shakes his head.

Jeshiah asks, "Do you feel at each of these instances, the Mayor and Marshal conspiring with the Rooks, held equal or greater risk than your mission to Idolone?"

Juramis huskily says, "I do not require anything."

Jeshiah peers quizzically at Kiyna.

Speaking to Juramis, Tayler asks, "So fufilled, in life, you are?"

Speaking to Juramis, Dendum reminds, ""The landing helped the Juramis stay alive when the krolvin attacked....do not recall Amos pushing Juramis through burnt buildlings...."

Speaking to Jeshiah, Kiyna says, "Yes, I think so. All action carries risk. And yet, the Rooks, the Mayor, and the Gryphons, and all others, act to defend and better the Landing."

Jeshiah nods.

Kiyna shrugs.

Jeshiah says, "Truth be told, if I recounted your adventure to Idolone and simply replaced your name with Thadston or Stormyrain, we might all be at Helga's sharing lagers instead."

Jeshiah says, "How...unjust and unfair."

Nairena asks, "Whos Casiphia?"

Kiyna nods appreciatively at Jeshiah.

Speaking to Nairena, Leafiara says, "Mother."

Irval says, "I wonder how Alendrial will react when she finds out that it was Kiyna who killed her husband."

Nairena says, "Oh."

Stormyrain mutters, "Except I would not have gone to Idolone, and shot a helpless sailor."

Speaking to Nairena, Lylia says, "She is the 'Mother' of the Rooks, their autocratic leader."

Speaking to Irval, Kayse asks, "What are you even talking about?"

Speaking to Irval, Vaemyr says, "Stephos is alive still last I knew."

Jeshiah says, "I rest my defense."

Irval says, "Oh."

Jeshiah nods.

Speaking to Jeshiah, Kiyna says, "I have two character witnesses to call, when you are finished with your own questioning."

Jeshiah says, "Thank you for your heroics."

Irval asks, "Who was the man shot at sea?"

Jeshiah nods at Kiyna.

Speaking to Irval, Stormyrain says, "A simple sailor."

Jeshiah says, "Yes, please do."

Irval says, "Oh right right."

Thrassus says, "Just a hapless unfortunate."

Speaking to Lylia, Nairena says, "I doubt she will be found unless she chooses to show herself."

Kiyna says, "I would like to call on Councilor Vaemyr, and Lady Lylia Rashere."

Kayse whispers something to Stormyrain.

Irval says, "So many things happening in the shadows."

Irval says, "Plans within plans."

Speaking to Thadston, Kiyna says, "You haven't seen her in a bit."

Irval says, "Smoke and mirrors."

Thrassus says, "She had best choose soon, she's dying."

Character Witness, Councilor Vaemyr

Jeshiah exclaims, "Vaemyr!"

Town Councilor Vaemyr just climbed down a narrow stairway.

Jeshiah nods.

Vaemyr nods slowly.

Thadston glances at Vaemyr.

Speaking to Irval, Chandrellia says, "So much that even you cant keep it all straight, we must be doing something right after all."

Vaemyr nods at Thadston.

Speaking to Irval, Dendum says, ""Truthfully...Alendrial might not mind if it was Stephos that was...pew pew..."

Tikba says, "It sounds as though dying is what she has chosen."

Thadston says, "Amos isn't here. But go ahead."

Thadston smirks.

Lylia whispers something to Kayse.

Leafiara murmurs, "If he somehow asks Vaemyr if he's a Rook again..."

Kiyna smiles.

Vaemyr clearly says, "I thought long and hard about things when I discovered she was a Rook that night. And no I didn't know before hand, albeit perhaps I was just in denial. Love for those we care about can make us not see things we probably should."

Vaemyr glances at Thadston.

Thadston says, "Not all imperials. Not the ones at sea."

Thadston shrugs.

A small area of skin on Kiyna suddenly ripples.

Vaemyr clearly says, "But my eyes are open now, and I really don't think her association changes anything about who she is. I still believe, had Mother ordered Kiyna, or any of the other Rooks to harm innocent lives, be it citizen, non-citizen, or imperial, that she would have been the first out that door, ready to help put a stop to them."

Vaemyr candidly says, "I'm not sure I always agreed with their methods or secrecy, but the Rooks since the defeat of the Knave, have changed. They have not been raiding shipments or supplies, our dock workers have seemed happy, and they defended the Landing time and time again against horrible threats from Krolvin, rebellious Armigers, Gnul's armies, Reivers and spiders, and horrible fire elementals. The only thing they are guilty of during that time that I have seen, is not changing their name."

Stormyrain confusedly asks, "She--she admitted to killing someone innocent?"

Dendum says, "Yes."

Irval says, "If you think that knowly obfuscating the people and citizens of landing does you credit. You are most assuredly mistaken! And apparently you haven't been doing it well since it seems you are on trial."

Perigourd says, "She did."

Kiyna mutters, "I tried, she wasn't having it."

Juramis nods gravely at Stormyrain.

Dendum says, "Argument would be better without the shooting of sailors."

Stormyrain says, "I'm..confused by Vaemyr's statements, then."

Thrassus says, "An adrift sailor at sea."

Stormyrain asks, "Yes--so why is Vaemyr saying she would never do such things?"

Vaemyr nods at Jeshiah.

Dendum says, "There is still good things in statement...."

Vaemyr glances at Thadston.

Jeshiah asks, "You were almost the original Samfelt?"

Jeshiah peers quizzically at Vaemyr.

Kiyna chuckles.

Vaemyr smirks at Jeshiah.

Speaking to Irval, Chandrellia says, "Better then you apparently."

Speaking to Dendum, Leafiara agrees, "Often a mixed bag in many statements if they're long enough, and his are frequently long."

Speaking to Dendum, Stormyrain asks, "Completely negated by the fact he swears she is not the type of person she has--admitted to being herself?"

Speaking to Jeshiah, Vaemyr says, "I wasn't a rook first."

Thadston asks, "Now you are?"

Speaking to Stormyrain, Perigourd says, "She's his ward. I would expect him to defend her."

Speaking to Stormyrain, Perigourd says, "But I think it also poses a conflict of interest."

Speaking to Thadston, Vaemyr says, "I would honestly never join them even if they asked."

Thadston asks, "Membership card already full?"

Thadston smirks.

Dendum yells, ""The Vaemyr is not on trial and the Thadston doesn't have enough days left to try him!"

Speaking to Perigourd, Stormyrain asks, "Defending yes, but making your own statement contrast her statements is not--the best defense?"

Speaking to Chandrellia, Irval says, "So much for holding meaningful conversations when you resort to personal attacks. That means you clearly lost the discussion."

Speaking to Stormyrain, Perigourd says, "Agreed."

Thadston says, "You mentioned an innocent person."

Thadston asks, "How would you describe that?"

Thadston peers quizzically at Vaemyr.

Thadston asks, "What is innocent?"

Dendum says, "Oh...looks like Thadston also noticed the problem in speech..."

Speaking to Dendum, Kayse says, "He has been doing questions for all the character witnesses."

Leafiara says, "Philosophy's usually Vaemyr's strength. This could be interesting."

Tikba glances skeptically at Leafiara.

Speaking offhandedly to Tikba, Leafiara says, "I didn't say consistency."

Tikba gazes in amusement at Leafiara.

Thadston asks, "Hard to figure it out?"

Thadston peers quizzically at Vaemyr.

Speaking to Thadston, Vaemyr says, "I know where you are going, and I guess it can mean different things."

Speaking to a huge orange cat, Irval asks, "Good right?"

Irval says, "Gooeat eel."

Thadston asks, "Did you and Kiyna need to take five and craft an answer that doesn't make her look like a murderer?"

Thadston says, "I think the fact that you know where I'm going with this in fact answers my question."

Thadston says, "So let me pose another one to you."

Speaking to Thadston, Vaemyr says, "For me, it is someone whom can't defend themselves, and you will say that the man in the waters was an innocent person."

Speaking to Dendum, Irval says, "That cat is gonna be even more huge soon."

Thadston asks, "Roles reversed. You're at sea, on a secret mission to talk to a criminal, and a man at sea begs for help. What would you do?"

Speaking to Irval, Tayler says, "Self fixing problem, once he's too fat to walk, he can't find food as easily."

Nairena says, "I thought they established that none of them were the captain."

Vaemyr says, "I would try to convince the captain to rescue him, if that failed I would portal him onto the ship."

Kayse hesitantly says, "This does not seem it is working well to her advantage."

Thadston says, "So for the record, you wouldn't whip out a hand pylon and blast him."

Thadston nods.

Thadston says, "Thanks."

Jeshiah asks, "Lylia?"

Jeshiah squirms.

Nairena says, "Portals are not that accurate either."

Imperatrix Lylia just climbed down a narrow stairway.

Speaking to Jeshiah, Kiyna says, "Let him finish."

Lylia inclines her head.

Leafiara says, "Bit weaker from Vaemyr than I expected, I'll admit."

Vaemyr takes a deep breath.

Tikba uncertainly says, "I do not think it is wise to open a portal into the ocean."

Nairena says, "Even harder to summon aboard a moving ship."

Jeshiah says, "Your closing statement is after the witnesses."

Jeshiah nods at Kiyna.

Speaking to Thadston, Vaemyr says, "If I had a choice to watch someone suffer and die or try to let them pass painlessly I would choose the latter."

Kiyna nods at Jeshiah.

Town Councilor Vaemyr just climbed up a narrow stairway.

Speaking to Nairena, Irval says, "What about a not moving ship."

Character Witness, Lylia

Kiyna nods at Lylia.

Speaking to Tikba, Dendum asks, ""Would portal just empty ocean onto ship?"

Lylia inclines her head.

Stormyrain dubiously says, "Mhm."

Thadston says, "Well, let's hear it."

Thadston nods at Lylia.

Lylia asks, "By your leave, Mayor?"

Evia says, "Not an expert but I would guess getting shot with a pylon is not that painless."

Lylia says, "I was asked to be a character witness, and that is what I shall be. I do not offer attestation about an organization or an ideology or a series of events, but about an individual."

Thadston says, "Might as well while I still can."

Speaking to Irval, Nairena says, "Water isnt the best medium to concentrate your portals given its inherint properties."

Juramis nods approvingly at Vaemyr.

Lylia continues, "To that end, let me tell you of the character I have witnessed from the time we first spoke in passing on the streets of Icemule Trace."

Vaemyr says, "Shame that Thadston didn't respond that he's known about the Rook den for a year, yet now is when he decides to put people on trial."

Speaking uncertainly to Dendum, Tikba says, "I do not know. Perhaps a Magister might."

Kiyna smiles at Lylia.

Lylia says, "Forthright. Idealistic. Charitable."

(Lylia ticks them off on her fingers as she lists the words.)

Lylia admits, "Virtues I largely lack, in fact."

Speaking to Vaemyr, Leafiara muses, "I suppose you can hope Manard noticed."

Juramis huskily says, "She is going to need all the support she can get in this trial. Hopefully your words were enough to sway the judge."

Lylia says, "During the past Town Council elections, Kiyna sought my opinion; she wondered if she were mad for considering a run."

Lylia smiles at Kiyna.

Evia says, "Cognitive dissonance thats how."

Lylia says, "Perhaps with further discussion, we could come to a more accurate, nuanced portrait of a complex individual, one who is not the simple criminal suggested."

Lylia says, "I would invite your questions, should you have any."

Juramis scratches his head.

Thadston says, "You have seen the many faces of the Rooks over the years."

Lylia agrees, "I have, both fair and foul."

Thadston says, "From Drangell, to Rysus, to Alendrial, to Mother..."

Thadston asks, "Do you think they are different now?"

Lylia says, "Yes."

Thadston asks, "How so?"

Irval says, "Their ends justify the means in their opinion, I daresay."

Lylia says, "They have been different in each of these phases. Drangell's Rooks were vermin. Alendrial's were chaotic but good-hearted."

Jeshiah squirms.

Lylia says, "Currently? I think the Remnants have drained away much of the venom."

Lylia admits, "The organization's instability is part of why I have typically had little use for them."

Speaking to Kayse, Stormyrain murmurs, "I have a question if you don't mind? The sailor, was he obviously dying?"

Thadston nods.

Thadston asks, "Would you say that Rysus was one who would kill for convenience? Not blink if murder meant a successful mission?"

Thadston asks, "Much like perhaps the Remnants do now?"

Lylia chuckles.

Speaking to Kayse, Stormyrain murmurs, "Vaemyr and Kiyna both insist that was the way of it, I'm just wondering if that was true from your recollection?"

Speaking evenly to Stormyrain, Kayse admits, "I am not an empath, the mission could have been jeopardized by stopping but I do not think he was dying."

Kayse says, "Well, dying, but could have been saved I mean."

Lylia thoughtfully says, "Yes, but he was not a wanton murderer. He held a knife to my back and did not press it home. I do not think he would choose to kill unless something greater than one life were at stake."

Speaking to his giant purple squirrel, Irval says, "Knock it off Red."

Stormyrain says, "Injured, then. To some serious degree."

Speaking to Kayse, Vaemyr asks, "Did you have an empath with you?"

Thadston asks, "Interesting. So even Rysus might pause at murder in some situations? Even when he had full control?"

Speaking to Stormyrain, Vaemyr says, "I wasn't there, but I believe and trust Kiyna when she told me she didn't think there was another choice."

Speaking to Vaemyr, Kayse says, "There was."

Speaking to Vaemyr, Stormyrain says, "Of course, you are her protector. It just--is hard to reconcile her statements with yours."

Thadston asks, "So I wonder then, if the Rooks you speak of presently are not vermin like Drangell's reign, or chaotic like Alendrial's...then where does Kiyna fit in? When a man's life at sea is less valuable than the mission? Is she Rook or Remnant?"

Lylia replies, "I witnessed that firsthand, so yes. When he was fully himself, that is. He was poisoned, as you recall, his mind diseased."

Stormyrain surprisedly says, "Huh."

Dendum reminds, ""Murder...is not the charge..."

Dendum says, "...yet."

Stormyrain says, "Yet."

Juramis huskily says, "The Rooks certainly have had many faces."

Kayse lightly says, "For the record, whoever is sending Kiyna thoughts, I never said she was a murderer. I answered a question."

Lylia says, "At the risk of sounding cryptic, she is Kiyna. More Rook than Remnant in my estimation. Idealistic, possibly even ideologically driven."

Speaking to Juramis, Irval says, "Yes, most of them two-faced."

Lylia gazes wistfully at Kiyna.

Speaking confusedly to Kayse, Stormyrain says, "You didn't say anything about her, just answered my question about your perspective."

Tayler says, "I am surprised people are so willing to discuss these things. Thadston is not calling witnesses, his accusations are merely that, people are talking themselves into looking bad."

Kiyna grins at Lylia.

Thadston says, "Yes, Forthright. Charitable. We get it."

Speaking gently to Kiyna, Lylia says, "I do not mean that word to sting."

Speaking indifferently to Stormyrain, Kayse says, "Someone is telling her I said she was a murderer."

Lylia nods at Thadston.

Thadston says, "Except when she wasn't forthright in disclosing she was a Rook when she ran for council..."

Speaking to Lylia, Kiyna says, "I don't think it does."

Speaking to Tayler, Leafiara says, "As it turns out, some are interested in discussing the truth even to their possible detriment."

Thadston says, "But I suppose it was charity when she blasted a man at sea."

Lylia asks, "Was she a Rook when she ran for Council?"

Speaking to Tayler, Irval says, "Lot of self-incrimination to be sure."

Lylia raises an eyebrow.

Jeshiah asks, "Mayor, do you even have authority to press on this at sea incident?"

Speaking to Lylia, Kiyna says, "I was. So was Kayse. He already asked that question."

Lylia coolly says, "I see."

Thadston says, "I am not seeking a murder charge, the helpless man was not our citizen. I presume. Just someone's dad, or brother, or son. No big deal to Kiyna or Pukk."

Juramis huskily says, "Finally! Walnut spoke up."

Speaking to Leafiara, Tayler says, "So it would seem."

Kiyna sighs.

Speaking to Kayse, Vaemyr says, "Well since we are talking about what happened on the ship, is it true that someone else whom was there was going to shoot the man with an arrow? At this point I'm curious if what I know of what happened is true or not..."

Speaking to Thadston, Lylia admits, "It is clear that even the true jewels among us do indeed have many facets, including some that are hidden by their setting."

Thadston says, "But what I am trying to illustrate is the Rooks, who claim they dance in the grey for the good, are just making excuses to justify their criminal behavior and intentions."

Speaking to Vaemyr, Kayse says, "No, that is not correct."

Kiyna looks momentarily pained as something scuttled up and down her left leg.

Tayler asks, "What did this sailor do that everyone was trying to murder him?"

Thadston says, "I have no other questions."

Lylia inclines her head.

Lylia says, "Thank you."

Speaking to Tayler, Stormyrain says, "Existed."

Closing Words

Jeshiah asks, "Nor do I. Kiyna, your final statement?"

Imperatrix Lylia just climbed up a narrow stairway.

Speaking mildly to Tayler, Tikba says, "He died."

Kiyna nods at Jeshiah.

Thrassus says, "Be stranded at sea, apparently."

Speaking to Tayler, Dendum says, ""Floated poorly."

Kiyna says, "I did have a closing statement."

Nairena says, "Fell off the boat when he should have stayed on it."

Speaking evenly to Vaemyr, Kayse says, "But I have spoken my testimony already. Perhaps you should speak to Kiyna more regarding it."

Kiyna says, "Mayor Andrews is entirely correct about one thing. Our town is fractious and divided. And I would not have it said that I did not at least try to mend that division."

Stormyrain says, "He was floating just fine, from the loresong his corpse gave me."

Speaking to Thadston, Kiyna says, "I have an offer for you."

Speaking sincerely to Thadston, Kiyna says, "If you will apologize to me for the extra-legal execution you subjected me to, I will drop my charges against you."

Tayler asks, "So... he was fine? And she killed him anyways?"

Speaking to Thadston, Kiyna asks, "What say you?"

Thadston laughs!

Stormyrain mutters, "Oof."

Thadston says, "Piss off. Back to your balcony."

Kiyna shrugs helplessly.

Speaking to Tayler, Kayse says, "He was injured with blood on his face."

Kiyna says, "I tried."

Town Councilor Kiyna just climbed up a narrow stairway.

Leafiara says, "Sheesh, I just outright wrote to Jeshiah not to press murder charges on my behalf preemptively."

Speaking to Kiyna, Nairena says, "Nice ending."

Chandrellia Goes Straight to Questions

Jeshiah exclaims, "Chandrellia!"

You see Miss Chandrellia Constantinople the Paragon of Reim.
She appears to be a Sylvankind of the Lassaran D'ahranal.
Drawn up over her head is a supple leather hood, the edge partially shading her features. Dangling from the sides of the hood are several knotted lengths of grass, each one covered in an assortment of colorful sea glass beads and tiny shells.
She is strikingly tall and has a voluptuous body. She appears to be in the bloom of youth. She has feral hellebore red eyes and rose-blushed, milky white skin. She has waist length, cascading hellebore red hair divided into several elegantly twisted sections and adorned with some white pearl snowflake hairjewels. She has a perfectly symmetrical, delicately featured face, a pert, daintily upturned nose and ample hips. She has iridescent mint green polish brushed onto her shortened fingernails.
She has a rune-etched bloodjewel stud in her left nostril, a filigreed dark bloodjewel half-ring in her right eyebrow, a gold-veined glass spike in her left eyebrow, a red-haired buxom mermaid tattoo on her waist, an unfurling white and blush rose tattoo on her leg, a labyrinthine knotwork tattoo comprised of the elements on her wrist, and a detailed tattoo of a purple-furred warcat wearing a tiny tri-cornered hat and painting a portrait of a purple-eyed owl on her neck.
Sanguine arcane sigils glow in front of her.
She is in good shape.
She is wearing a golden brown acorn amulet, some curvaceous raven black body armor accented in scarlet red, a silver-beaded supple black leather purse, some dangly scintillating ruby earrings, a tall-collared black leather jacket caught at each sleeve with a set of ivory-tipped claws, an iron and glaes raven figure, a velvety soft deep black rose tucked behind one ear, a silver-framed shadowy wraithaline brooch, a dusky leather bodice with tightened smoky grey laces, a pair of umber suede gloves, a crystal-inset platinum ring, an urglaes thumb-ring, some jet leather pants buttoned in gold down each ankle, and a pair of brushed suede riding boots with plaited silk laces.
Flickering near Chandrellia is a sleek rook, its luminous figure composed of hellebore red energy. Feathers ruffled and beak open wide, it flares its wings aggressively.

Chandrellia stands up.

Miss Chandrellia just climbed down a narrow stairway.

Chandrellia nods to Thadston in greeting.

Leafiara says, "Had just been starting to wonder if there was even time for another."

Chandrellia nods to Jeshiah in greeting.

Nairena says, "Im sure Thadston will be put on trial soon enough as well."

Speaking to Judge Manard, Chandrellia says, "Evening your Honor."

Speaking to Judge Manard, Chandrellia says, "Before we begin."

Kialeigh says, "I hope he doesn't hang the kitten too."

Speaking to Judge Manard, Chandrellia says, "I would like to ask your honor of one thing."

Speaking to Kialeigh, Irval says, "This is gonna be painful to watch. Tell me when its over."

Thrassus says, "I don't think there are going to be any more hangings of this group of accused."

The Judge says, "...not really how this works, but go ahead?"

Speaking to Thrassus, Leafiara agrees, "That wasn't among the possible punishments cited at the beginning yesterday."

Irval says, "I wonder if she'll accuse the judge of something."

Juramis huskily says, "It has been about one hour since the proceedings began. That is about the same as last evening, for each of the accused."

Speaking to Irval, Nairena says, "Possible."

Speaking to Judge Manard, Chandrellia says, "That Mayor Andrews stays on topic and what is actually being tried. No names, no blasphemy, just to stay on point, I feel, that he is to emtionally involved, as Casi is indeed his ex lover and she has evaded him twice."

Kialeigh says, "Likely to be a few more nights then."

Chandrellia shrugs.

Kialeigh says, "The rest of the defendants.. and then the last night for sentencing."

Nairena asks, "Really?"

Evia says, "How is that even on topic."

The Judge chuckles, "If only we could control Thadston" He laughs. "Proceed with your opening statement."

Nairena asks, "Isnt that like a conflict of interest?"

Nairena says, "Naughty Thaddy."

Irval says, "Wouldnt it be a conflict of interest to be a Rook and sit on the council as well."

Irval says, "Just saying."

Tikba mildly asks, "Why?"

Chandrellia says, "I had one all worked up in my head, but seeing how Mayor Andrews likes to pick everyting apart, I think I will skip my opening statement and just get to business."

Evia says, "Uh huh."

Speaking to Irval, Nairena says, "Nope."

Chandrellia glances at Thadston and preens.

Juramis huskily says, "Conflict and interest are two staples of Wehnimer's politics, and most other things around here."

Speaking to Irval, Nairena says, "Checks and balances, my friend."

Vaemyr says, "Who in the landing isn't part of something or another."

Lylia says, "If we accept individual trials for each of the defendants, then the affiliations of the mayor are likewise irrelevant. Casiphia is not currently present to be on trial, and none have seen her."

Thadston says, "Fair enough."

Speaking to Juramis, Leafiara concedes, "Okay, you're getting better at this."

Irval says, "Not when you are the check and the supposed balance."

Kavelath says, "Rooks citizens too. Have a right ro be on the council if elected."

Kialeigh says, "Everyone has secret agendas... everyone."

Thadston asks, "Were you on the boat to Idolone with the others?"

Vaemyr asks, "In fact is anyone here, not a member of any organization?"

Irval says, "Not a criminal one."

Speaking to Vaemyr, Lylia says, "I might be involved with a few. Here and there."

Chandrellia says, "What does that constitute to my trial, what happened out at sea was not within Landing jurisdiction and that is what I am being tried for."

Speaking to Irval, Kavelath says, "Your opinion."

Thadston says, "It's relevant because it pertains to the dealings of the Rooks."

Irval says, "It is."

Speaking to Irval, Nairena says, "We all have good and bad motives resting inside of our hearts and minds."

Speaking to Vaemyr, Tayler asks, "What constitutes an organization?"

Speaking to Irval, Kialeigh says, "No not criminal in all cases. But overall we all have reasons we do the things we do, and many wouldn't agree with the things we might do good OR bad.. to achieve them.."

The Judge nods, "Please answer the question."

Chandrellia says, "Yes."

Tikba mildly says, "Indeed, it is the very question being debated tonight."

Thadston asks, "How skilled of a healer would you consider yourself?"

Juramis huskily says, "I wonder if having a rat crawling around you looks good in front of the judge."

Thadston asks, "You often aid our brave defenders and fallen in the field of battle or during invasions right?"

Speaking to Tayler, Vaemyr says, "I mean things like the great houses, Voln, The Gryphons, the Alabaster spire, I mean there's so many I can't even count them all."

Speaking to Juramis, Kialeigh says, "She has a kitten as her character witness...."

Thrassus says, "He's likely seen worse."

Kialeigh says, "I'm sure it's fine."

Juramis huskily says, "That is acceptable."

Speaking to Thadston, Chandrellia says, "Well enough within my trainings to keep someone alive should I have the opportunity to do so."

Juramis pets a huge orange cat, which nuzzles his hand softly.

Speaking softly to a huge orange cat, Lylia says, "You could take care of those nasty rats, yes? Yes, you could."

Thadston says, "Great. And people should or would be lucky to have you nearby."

Chandrellia says, "Some would argue otherwise."

Lylia says, "I see where he is headed with this."

Thadston says, "...like if your ship sailed past them and they were abandoned at sea, wounded, and asking for help."

Lylia says, "And there it is."

Speaking to Thadston, Chandrellia says, "Again, should I have the opportunity to do so."

Nairena asks, "Why does he keep circling back to the sailor?"

Kiyna says, "There was no feasible way to get him onto the ship..."

Thadston asks, "Was Kiyna just too fast on the draw? Is that what you're saying?"

Nairena says, "Learn to stay on the boat."

Juramis huskily says, "I believe the charge for killing someone at sea is piracy. But that might be for another evening."

Chandrellia says, "Do not try to bait me into prosecuting someone else that was on that ship, you have questioned her and she answered."

Juramis chuckles to himself.

Thadston asks, "So you did not have the opportunity to heal the sailor?"

Speaking to Thadston, Chandrellia says, "I did not."

Speaking to Kiyna, Tayler says, "I think the point he is trying to make is that whatever mission you all were on, instead of choosing to help that sailor, it was easier for you to just kill him."

Thadston says, "But for reasons you won't share."

Thadston nods.

Chandrellia says, "I never said that."

Chandrellia says, "You assumed."

Chandrellia shakes her head at Thadston and clucks her tongue.

Thadston says, "Except..."

Evia says, "I guess water walking isn't a thing at sea.."

Thadston says, "...and I quote..."

Chandrellia peers quizzically at Thadston.

Thadston says, "Do not try to bait me into prosecuting someone else that was on that ship, you have questioned her and she answered."

Speaking to Evia, Perigourd says, "It is."

Thadston says, "That is a non answer."

Chandrellia says, "Yes."

Speaking to Tayler, Kiyna says, "I said, he was spotted off the aft. We had already sailed past him. Ships at sail don't just stop and back up, like carts. You can't just drop anchor anywhere."

Vaemyr says, "Evia only if your ship isn't moving, little hard to catch back up to it."

Chandrellia says, "Though you did not ask me why I wasnt given the opportunity."

Thadston asks, "Yes, it is a non answer? Or yes Kiyna was too fast to shoot?"

Chandrellia sighs.

Thadston asks, "Okay. Why weren't you given the opportunity?"

Speaking to Thadston, Chandrellia says, "We tried, the captain refused, now it's been said that Kiyna could have held the pylon to the captain's head and ordered him to save the sailor." [referencing what Tayler said in the balcony earlier]

Chandrellia asks, "However, what do you think the outcome of that would have been?"

Nairena says, "They should be questioning the captain."

Chandrellia peers quizzically at Thadston.

Speaking to Kiyna, Tayler says, "I am familiar with how sailing works, ships have longboats, they can also turn while someone watches and guides the navigator back towards the stranded sailor."

Thadston says, "A complacent captain and a rescued sailor."

Chandrellia laughs!

Speaking to Thadston, Chandrellia says, "Perhaps in a perfect world Mayor."

Thadston says, "But that's something honorable. I'd expect that of a Gryphon."

Thadston asks, "That's not how the Rooks operate, is it?"

Speaking to Tayler, Kiyna says, "This was a merchant vessel, without cannon. Fully laden. Dangerous, dark, krolvin-infested waters."

Thadston says, "You think you run in shades of grey, but it's really hues of red."

Thadston says, "Everyone's blood but your own."

Speaking to Tayler, Kiyna says, "The captain was right in not stopping and risking everyone else."

Chandrellia takes a deep breath.

Speaking to Kiyna, Tayler asks, "If you were floating there, would you prefer death?"

Chandrellia slowly empties her lungs.

Dendum says, "Fully laden..."

Thadston says, "You were once a town councilor."

Speaking to Thadston, Chandrellia asks, "Next question Mayor?"

'Thadston asks, "Were you a Rook before you ran for office?"

Chandrellia thoughtfully taps a finger against her lips.

Speaking to Tayler, Kiyna says, "I have preferred death for a long time. Lorminstra won't give it to me."

Speaking to Thadston, Chandrellia says, "Perhaps, it's been a bit of time, and well, my memory is just so bad lately."

Evia says, "Seems like such a blessedly long time ago."

Thadston says, "Sure, you know, with all the depravity. Rots the brain."

Speaking to Thadston, Chandrellia asks, "Are you holding a mirror?"

Nairena says, "Good one, sis."

Speaking to Dendum, Kiyna says, "Yes, fully laden. It was a trade mission to Idolone. That wasn't a lie."

Thadston asks, "You campaigned heavily for town council with Leafiara at the time. Some have said even in her shadow, really. I didn't say it, but some have. Did you and Leafiara know of each others membership within the Rooks at the time you ran for office?"

Juramis scratches his head.

Dendum says, "Hrmm...well perhaps best not to run down and mention profit made during killing."

Leafiara says, "He should have waited for my turn for this one. I have a better memory than her, apparently."

Lylia says, "Speaking of brain-rot, Rysus' behavior was a surprising tack for him to take with his questions. I must commend him for catching me flat-footed."

Speaking to Kiyna, Tayler says, "Ships from all over routinely rescue stranded sailors at sea, I'm not in a position to judge you, perhaps I would have done the same, but at least with my captains, it has long been procedure that every attempt to rescue sailors is made before abandoning them to the sea, goods can be replaced, lives cannot, and if it were any one of my captains floating there, they would hope a ship would rescue them in turn."

Lylia says, "Metaphorically speaking."

Speaking quietly to Leafiara, Nairena says, "Chandy has been hit hard in the head quite a few times."

Speaking to Leafiara, Kayse says, "I am sure you will get the same ones."

Chandrellia says, "I will not divalge what is perceived by others, I am unaware of when Leafiara actually joined the Rooks, as it was something she never hid, so as far as time, I am not sure."

Tikba says, "But surely the empathic powers repair that."

Kialeigh says, "She's like a one woman zoo."

Thadston asks, "So she did not hide her membership?"

Speaking to Tayler, Kiyna says, "Good for them. I was the one in that situation. I made the decision."

Nairena says, "Some damage clearly remains after the wounds were healed."

Thadston says, "So you were a Rook, and knew she was a Rook, when you both ran for office."

Thadston nods.

Speaking to Thadston, Chandrellia asks, "Have you seen her store?"

Leafiara says, "This is incorrect, but..."

Chandrellia winces as a grizzled river rat snuffles along her neck, pausing to dig its nose into her ear.

Nairena says, "Shes still a very clever and smart woman."

Speaking to Thadston, Chandrellia says, "That timeline eludes me, sorry Mayor."

Tikba gazes in amusement at Leafiara.

Tikba points at a narrow stairway.

Speaking to Leafiara, Dendum says, ""This balcony is full of witnesses for next trial."

Thadston says, "I know. Your world is grey."

Tikba says, "You must correct the record."

Speaking to Thadston, Chandrellia asks, "Grey or red which is it?"

Speaking to Tikba, Leafiara says, "I will when I'm up."

Chandrellia peers quizzically at Thadston.

'Thadston asks, "What were the details of the deal brokered with Stephos DeArchon?"

Speaking to Thadston, Chandrellia says, "Good question, wish I knew."

Thadston asks, "How strange. You risked a lot going there. What if there isn't even a deal?"

Juramis can offer Evia only a blank expression.

Speaking to Lylia, Leafiara says, "I wasn't even a Rook yet when I ran for the town council. Chandy just doesn't recall."

Thadston shrugs.

Speaking to Thadston, Chandrellia says, "We, and by we I mean every citizen in this town risk a lot just by walking out our doors."

Leafiara adds, "...not that it stopped countless people from assuming I was one for years before joining."

Thadston asks, "Why do you think Amos is an enemy of this town?"

Thadston peers quizzically at Chandrellia.

Thadston asks, "And why do you oppose him?"

Speaking to Thadston, Chandrellia says, "We risk who you will allow through our gates to rampage our streets."

Juramis huskily says, "That will probably clear her of any conspiracy charges."

Juramis huskily says, "But maybe not you."

Juramis grins at Leafiara.

Leafiara gazes in amusement at Juramis.

Lylia says, "Now that is an interesting question. And I would be keen to know the answer."

Leafiara says, "I already planned on agreeing to guilt on conspiracy anyway."

Leafiara grins.

Leafiara winks at Juramis.

Speaking to Thadston, Chandrellia says, "Stay on topic, my personal feelings for Amos have nothing to do with why I am on trial, either elaborate on the question or move on please."

Thadston says, "It is on topic, I am just smarter than you."

Kiyna says, "I don't think one instance of me taking a wounded person's life to spare them suffering stands up to all the other good I've done, but I suppose that's for the judge to determine."

The Judge says, "Answer the question please."

Speaking to Thadston, Chandrellia says, "Yes you are, you are very smart, a great tactician, even a good Mayor, at times."

Thadston says, "I'll ask it again your Honor, slower."

Thadston asks, "Why do you think Amos is an enemy of this town?"

Juramis raises an eyebrow.

Chandrellia says, "When Amos first arrived, he boasted about his dealings across the way."

A town clerk arrives hurriedly, hands Jeshiah a note and runs off. Jeshiah looks at the message and his eyes go wide, along with his grin, and he stuffs it away.

Thadston glances at Jeshiah.

Chandrellia says, "He even brought endangered animals to be let loose and hunted down while injured."

Jeshiah whistles tunelessly to himself.

Leafiara guesses, "...what, did Jeshiah only just get the news about the votes?"

Tikba says, "He joked about it earlier."

Tikba uncertainly says, "I thought."

Speaking to Thadston, Chandrellia says, "He attacked cititzens of this town."

Speaking to Leafiara, Vaemyr says, "The charges against Thadston coming in more likely."

Chandrellia says, "Including you, and Casiphia."

Thadston says, "Hunting injured animals is bad. Shooting injured sailors good. Noted."

Speaking to Thadston, Chandrellia says, "Dont put words in my mouth Mayor."

Nairena asks, "How do you connect those two situations?"

Speaking to Thadston, Chandrellia asks, "May I continue with your question?"

Chandrellia peers quizzically at Thadston.

Thadston says, "So everything you've just accused Amos of or dislike him for..."

Thadston asks, "Would you ever broker a deal with him?"

Thadston peers quizzically at Chandrellia.

Thadston asks, "Or is that completely off the table?"

Thadston asks, "Is he too dangerous for this town?"

Chandrellia says, "If it meant helping this town, if it meant saving lives of the citizens I help heal every damn day, then yes, I would put aside my dislike for the man and do what needed to be done for Landing."

Lylia says, "There is the connection."

Leafiara asks, "Is he about to bring up the bazaar?"

Thadston asks, "What if Amos had been shipping weapons to krolvin that killed citizens of Wehnimer's Landing?"

Thadston asks, "Would you still broker a deal with him then?"

Leafiara says, "...nope."

Thrassus says, "It is a good point, though."

Speaking to Thadston, Chandrellia asks, "Well, then I guess you would just hang him and ban him from town so there would be no need for me to do such a thing now would there?" [OOC note: likely a reference to Jadedragan; I doubt Chandy even knows the Stephos history Thadston is referencing]

Lylia says, "He is looking farther into the past. That was not Amos but Stephos."

Dendum says, "Thadston is bringing up Stephos."

Thadston says, "Ah, another non answer."

Juramis clears his throat.

Thadston asks, "Care to try again?"

Chandrellia says, "That was an answer."

Speaking to Juramis, Dendum asks, ""You work for that one as well?"

Irval says, "Hostile witness to say the least."

Juramis huskily asks, "Who?"

Juramis peers quizzically at Dendum.

Dendum says, "Stephos."

Speaking politely to Irval, Tikba says, "Yes, she is the defendant."

Thadston says, "No, it wasn't. But it might be your answer."

Thadston says, "I think it proves my point."

Chandrellia says, "If he was doing this as you say he may have been, or whatever, then you would have dealt with it long before I would need to worry about such a thing."

Chandrellia says, "So to answer your question as you say I have avoided."

Evia says, "Too much supposing going on."

Nairena says, "Poor reaction time, Thadston."

Kialeigh says, "This is weird.."

Kialeigh says, "She sounds like she's saying they don't need the Rooks."

Thadston shrugs.

Chandrellia says, "Should it be found out he was dealing weapons to the Krolvin or the Reivers, to harm our citizens then no I would not, IF I had known about it."

Kialeigh says, "Cause Thadston will take care of it."

Thadston says, "I'm surprised you can even walk and not trip over all of those strings."

Juramis huskily says, "I have never personally worked for or with Stephos DeArchon, that I am aware of."

Speaking to Thadston, Chandrellia asks, "Hmmm and who pulls your striongs?"

Speaking to Juramis, Dendum says, ""Hard to keep track."

Evia says, "And rats and stuff."

Chandrellia mutters, "Casiphia."

Kayse yells, "Is Amos on trial now?"

Juramis glances at Kayse.

Juramis furrows his brow.

Speaking to Thadston, Chandrellia asks, "Are you done yet?"

Character Witness, Tikba

The Judge says, "The hour is late. Chandrellia, do you have any witnesses to call?"

Speaking to Kayse, Lylia adds, "And Thadston too."

Evia says, "She did, but they're all in the old folks home by now."

Speaking to Judge Manard, Chandrellia says, "I did, however I will not call on the one I spoke to, I will ask this, if any person in the balcony wishes to stand for my character let them come forward, if not then that will answer your question."

Chandrellia glances at a narrow stairway.

Thadston says, "Chirp, chirp. Oh sorry, I thought that was real crickets."

Dendum says, "Err."

Juramis stands up.

Dendum says, "Someone go speak."

Speaking to Thadston, Chandrellia says, "Naw just your wheels trying to turn from being all rusty."

Jeshiah glances at a narrow stairway.

Chandrellia says, "Oh sorry maybe just the kroderine."

Dendum yells, "Eh we are debating who gets honor of going first was most unexpected!"

Jeshiah squirms.

Lylia demurs, "If I speak any more to Thadston, he would accuse me of grandstanding. Or of some crime."

Jeshiah asks, "I can begin my defense then?"

Tikba just climbed down a narrow stairway.

Speaking to Jeshiah, Chandrellia says, "Apparently yes."

Leafiara says, "I'm assuming other defendants wouldn't be presentable as character witnesses, in any case."

Chandrellia blinks.

Juramis nods approvingly.

Tikba coughs.

Juramis walks over to the bench and settles down.

Thadston peers quizzically at Tikba.

Chandrellia nods to Tikba in greeting.

Dendum yells, "That one won!"

Speaking to Kayse, Vaemyr says, "Following people, gets ya every time." [Kayse had initially been in Tikba's group and she had to come back up]

Thadston asks, "Really?"

Tikba politely says, "Forgive my delay."

Thadston shrugs.

Thadston says, "Go ahead."

Tikba says, "I have known Chandrellia since I have come to the Landing."

Tikba nods respectfully at Chandrellia.

Chandrellia whispers something to Jeshiah.

Tikba says, "We have not always agreed."

Chandrellia smiles at Tikba.

Chandrellia smirks.

Tikba mildly says, "Perhaps we have often disagreed."

Chandrellia agrees with Tikba.

Some loud voices can be heard growing louder outside of Moot Hall.

Juramis glances out.

The Judge looks out a window, then nods to Tikba, "Proceed."

Thrassus says, "Great."

Tikba says, "But she is dedicated to aiding those in need, and to the people of the Landing."

Leafiara says, "Now really isn't the time for protests if... well, maybe I shouldn't speculate."

Evia says, "Maybe its just the fan club coming to speak."

Tikba glances apprehensively around the room.

Voices shout from outside. "We're all Rooks! We're all Rooks! We're all Rooks!"

Arahnim says, "Prepare for fire orbs...possibly."

Tikba distractedly says, "I trust her to do what is right."

Juramis glances about with a look of concern on his face.

Tikba glances at a modwir arch.

Kialeigh says, "Or murders of random empire people."

Jeshiah points at Tikba.

Jeshiah exclaims, "Yes, that!"

Kialeigh says, "So many choices.. how exciting.."

Leafiara murmurs, "Seems I was a few days late on my prediction of when people would begin protesting in our favor."

Irval says, "This is what I like to call, intimidation."

Leafiara says, "Or early, maybe. One of those. The *hour* is what's late."

Kialeigh says, "Someone protect the cat.."

Speaking to Leafiara, Kelfyr says, "Takes a bit to work up a lather."

Speaking to Missoni, Kayse asks, "Are they gathered outside?"

Thadston asks, "Are you done?"

Thadston peers quizzically at Tikba.

Tikba nods in agreement at Thadston.

Speaking to Kayse, Missoni says, "There does not seem to be a crowd."

Thadston nods.

Speaking to Tikba, Chandrellia says, "Thank you."

Missoni says, "Perhaps just a few passing folks."

Tikba nods respectfully at Chandrellia.

Nairena says, "Checks and balances."

Speaking to Dendum, Kelfyr says, "Things tend to end poorly for him around crowds."

Jeshiah's Followup with Chandrellia

Jeshiah says, "Chandrellia has been a pillar of this town. A healer, and a defender."

Speaking to Dendum, Irval asks, "You mean our allies?"

Tikba nods in agreement at Jeshiah.

Jeshiah says, "Membership within the Rooks is not a crime, last I checked."

Some of the gathered townspeople shout, "We're all Rooks! We're all Rooks! We're all Rooks!"

Jeshiah says, "But some must do what they must to fill the gap left by vacant leaders."

Jeshiah says, "Nice amulet."

Jeshiah winks at Chandrellia.

Thrassus says, "Well, this is helpful."

Speaking to some gathered townspeople, Evia says, "Order in the peanut gallery kids."

Voices shout from outside. "We're all Rooks! We're all Rooks! We're all Rooks!"

Vaemyr says, "I think it's coming from outside, not the folks up here."

Dendum says, "It is everywhere."

Tikba mildly says, "Some other character witnesses may have arrived."

Speaking to Jeshiah, Chandrellia asks, "Which one?"

Juramis huskily says, "It is definitely coming from up here now."

Closing Words

The Judge says, "Chandrellia, do you wish a closing statement?"

Some of the gathered townspeople shout, "We're all Rooks! We're all Rooks! We're all Rooks!"

Jeshiah peers quizzically at Tikba.

Thrassus says, "This is not going to help the defendants."

Speaking to Jeshiah, Tikba explains, "You may hear their voices through the wall."

Leafiara wonders, "...does this count as a confession or is it taken as metaphorical sentiment?"

Speaking to some gathered townspeople, Irval says, "You think that this? Right here, what you are doing. Is making the case for your...colleagues to work in your favor."

Speaking to Judge Manard, Chandrellia says, "I wish for those that wish to speak on my behalf the opportunity to do so, Thadston has set this trial in motion and it is only fair that they be allowed to speak."

Lylia says, "No. Whipping up a crowd at the cost of a few silvers is not valid testimony."

Evia yells, "Your honor, the court is disrupted and in disarray with all the shouting, and nearly in a state of contempt of court!"

Speaking to some gathered townspeople, Irval exclaims, "Be Silent!"

Tikba gazes in amusement at a narrow stairway.

Speaking to Irval, Kiyna says, "It's a free town, friend. There's no law against chanting. They can do what they want."

Chandrellia says, "Yet it is not my person that is being contempt."

Speaking to Irval, Nairena says, "Nice try."

Chandrellia releases a loud sigh and rolls her eyes dramatically.

Speaking to Kayse, Evia says, "She cannot be heard over all the ruckus, it is not fair."

Irval asks, "During a trial? Do you wish for me to shout constantly down during your proceedings?"

As Chandrellia reaches up and caresses the surface of her acorn amulet, a look of deep thought spreads across her face.

Tikba just climbed up a narrow stairway.

Speaking to Irval, Kelfyr says, "You shout every other time people are assembled."

Chandrellia grimaces as her river rat suddenly cranes around her face to see something, its paw anchored onto her nose. A sudden slip sends the rodent flailing and clinging wildly to Chandrellia's front before scrambling back up to her shoulder with an embarrassed and sulky squeak.

Irval says, "Or did I not give you the respect enough to allow you to speak even if I disagreed with what you had to say."

Chandrellia says, "I will say a closing stement your honor."

Speaking to Kelfyr, Irval says, "Thats a load of malarkey and you know it."

The Judge shouts, "ORDER!"

Dendum asks, "Eh...what is malarkey?"

Tikba wryly asks, "Ah, are we discussing politeness?"

Dendum asks, "That is Irval for truth?"

(Chandrellia turns to face the crowd.)

Thrassus says, "Well, there goes the defense."

Chandrellia says, "Please, stop."

The Judge shouts, "ORDER!"

Chandrellia says, "Let this go throuugh the process, all will be righted."

Kialeigh says, "He's passionate.... as everyone is passionate for what they believe in. I can't fault him for so fully believing and following those beliefs."

Town guards and militia arrive and escort the crowd out of the room. They leave peacefully, but their chanting trails off.

Chandrellia says, "Causing mayhem only enhances their views of us."

Nairena says, "I believe the people have spoken."

Tayler says, "Spoken for themselves, perhaps."

Chandrellia says, "Now."

Evia says, "Oh, those are all the people then, didn't realize."

Chandrellia asks, "May I continue your honor?"

Thrassus asks, "Twenty four people is 'the people'?"

The Judge sighs and nods.

Chandrellia asks, "To the people of Landing and before this court. Do we not wish to see a peaceful change come to Landing? Do we not wish to see all citizens defending our walls in time of need?"

Tayler says, "They are some people, surely."

Leafiara says, "To be fair, it only took thirty-nine people to elect Alendrial our next mayor."

Pukk grins at Leafiara.

Speaking surprisedly to Pukk, Leafiara says, "Oh, I'd forgotten you were even here, you've been so quiet."

Dendum says, "Only took one Jovery to order the new Barony."

Thrassus says, "Apathy is not endorsement."

Speaking to Leafiara, Vaemyr says, "I think uhh those are probably the abreviated numbers."

Speaking to Leafiara, Pukk says, "I'm being good."

Irval says, "Yeah no reason to add more Rooks to the council when you can just supplant the mayor with someone who was Banished and has more skeletons in her closet than a graveyard."

Chandrellia says, "The Rooks gave this man safety, when Bodohal was looking for him as he told us he was in danger from this man. So either he lied about that as well, or perhaps he did do something that he was hiding that gave cause for him to be looked for."

Lylia slowly says, "'Imperialists.'."

Kayse corrects, "She was pardoned."

Chandrellia says, "How quickly he gained status with the Baron-to-be, perhaps he gave the Baron stories about several of you as well to boost his position, that perhaps in due time will send the Imperial soliders to your front doors."

Irval asks, "Yah after giving up her husband right?"

Speaking to Irval, Dendum says, ""Is called election."

Some of the gathered townspeople shout, "We're all Rooks! We're all Rooks!" but are quickly dragged away and ushered outside by members of the local militia.

Thrassus says, "There were several of us there, actually."

Chandrellia says, "Those of us that stand accused have given just as much of ourselves for this town as most of you. Yet I am questioned as to my loyalty to the town and whether I was doing it for self gain."

Speaking to Irval, Kayse asks, "Do you just speak before knowing the facts?"

Speaking to Kayse, Lylia says, "From him? Oh, that never happens."

Speaking to Irval, Kayse says, "No, her husband and herself were pardoned by Mayor Cruxophim in 5117."

Chandrellia asks, "Standing beside Goldstr as he was wracked with the effects of rot flares and healing him dispite people saying it was a lost cause and I should just let him die to end the flares. I did not, and he lived. Was that for self gain as well?"

Chandrellia says, "I suppose I am already judged by some of you, and that is your choice to do so. However, I will tell you this. Though I may be judged without conviction, I would still heal each one of you should you need it. I have seen so many of you also defend this town as we have and give as much as we have."

Chandrellia asks, "How many times has Thadston made deals with the Rooks for the betterment of the town? Why did Thadston allow Vlashandra to walk away with Barnom Slim after she mutilated our citizens right before our eyes? Why did he allow Tyrrax to go free including faking losing a fight so that the warlord would not lose face to his people? What deals did he possibly make to allow these people to go free?"

Chandrellia says, "Yet hang us without a trial right off the get go. At least Tyrrax got a trial first, then was allowed to be set free."

Chandrellia says, "Yet we are judged because of the past actions of others, judge us as ye wish. I will not change who I am, nor will I change how I treat any of you. I will still heal you should you need it, without expectations."

Jeshiah walks up and takes out a small note and hands it to the Judge.

Vaemyr says, "Technically he wasn't tried... he more of got a plea deal."

Chandrellia says, "I thank you all for hearing my statement, that is all I have to say."

Chandrellia nods to Judge Manard.

Irval says, "Due to backroom shennigans."

Jeshiah applauds Chandrellia.

Kiyna corrects, "It wasn't technically a trial, but no one seems to care for the distinction."

Evia says, "Ok now stop while you're doing well, phew."

Kiyna says, "It doesn't even really matter."

Leafiara says, "Only if Moot Hall somehow counts as a back room."

Schedule Ahead

The Judge says, "This concludes the trial for tonight but..." He reads over the parchment in his hand.

The Judge says, "Thadston, who is left to try tomorrow?"

Leafiara says, "Pretty strong closing statement that makes me wish she hadn't chosen to forego her opening statement." [OOC note: In the heat of the moment and live roleplay, I was mostly only able to skim it. Editing this log and fully taking it in, in its entirety, had me openly tearing up. Leafi would have reacted far more strongly if I'd been able to follow.]

Juramis stands up.

Juramis removes a mithril-banded dark ironwood walking stick capped with a carved eagle head from in his gold brocade mantle.

Thadston says, "Leafiara and Drektor."

Thadston says, "...and I've one witness to call myself."

The Judge says, "Who?"

Thadston says, "Samfelt."

Nairena says, "Umm."

Perigourd says, "I expected that."

Vaemyr says, "Not unsurprising."

Dendum says, "Well we know one thing about a samfelt...it can lie."

The Judge says, "Okay, it would appear the defense has a final witness to call tomorrow as well."

Thadston asks, "Who?"

Thrassus says, "It only makes sense."

The Judge says, "Casiphia."

Thadston blinks.

Thadston asks, "Excuse me?"

Kayse firmly says, "Good."

Juramis raises an eyebrow.

Tikba slowly says, "Ah."

Irval says, "Yes. Good."

Juramis huskily says, "I did not expect that."

Oishian exclaims, "Interesting!"

Evia asks, "What happens to the fellow who is banished and not present, actually?"

Kialeigh says, "Settle down, lover."

Thrassus says, "Hopefully she doesn't die of the poison beforehand."

The Judge says, "Goodnight all! The trial will continue!"

Irval says, "Or a broken neck."

Speaking to Judge Manard, Chandrellia asks, "Your honor? May I request something of the court for tomorrow's trials?"

Jeshiah just skipped merrily through a modwir arch.

Juramis nods once.

The Judge says, "No." He walks off to bed.

Juramis pets a huge orange cat, which nuzzles his hand softly.

Leafiara says, "Good stuff."

Thadston glances at a narrow stairway.

Chandrellia says, "Hmmm well ok, if a brawl breaks out, well, that's on him."

Goldstr exclaims, "Whew!"

Thadston glares.

Chandrellia shrugs.

Mayor Thadston just marched stiffly through a modwir arch.

Leafiara yells, "See ya tomorrow!"

Miss Chandrellia just climbed up a narrow stairway.

Discussion Afterward

Leafiara says, "Aw, he left before he could hear it."

Juramis huskily says, "Time for some rest! See you for the rest of the trial tomorrow."

Tikba says, "I am sure his mood will improve tomorrow when he sees his paramour again."

Kialeigh says, "That was trying..."

Lord Juramis just trudged down a narrow stairway.

Speaking to Chandrellia, Nairena says, "Nicely done."

Speaking to Tikba, Chandrellia says, "Again thank you, I was nae expecting anyone to walk down."

Speaking to Chandrellia, Vaemyr says, "Ya did good down there."

Speaking to Chandrellia, Tikba says, "We must aid one another."

Speaking to Vaemyr, Chandrellia says, "I did my best."

Speaking to Chandrellia, Kayse commends, "You did well."

Speaking to Leafiara, Dendum says, ""Perhaps should of joined chant."

Chandrellia says, "Yeah that doesn't look well for us."

Speaking to Dendum, Leafiara says, "Maybe they'll start handing out masks again soon."

Speaking to Chandrellia, Tikba says, "Your closing speech was eloquent."

Speaking to Tikba, Chandrellia says, "Thank you, it was supposed to be my opening one."

Speaking to Chandrellia, Leafiara praises, "Yeah, I think you would have gone a lot further if you had gone ahead with your opening--"

Leafiara suddenly says, "Oh."

Chandrellia says, "But I didn't want Thadston tearing it apart."

Speaking amusedly to Chandrellia, Leafiara says, "Well..."

Leafiara says, "I think it would have been better if Thadston did tear it apart."

Leafiara says, "But it's fine."

Leafiara says, "I'll have to set the record straight on some details you got off a bit..."

Vaemyr says, "So I wonder if Alendrial managed to meet with Casiphia, and that's what lead to her being a witness."

Leafiara says, "Makes my job a lot easier, to be honest."

Speaking to Leafiara, Chandrellia says, "I didnt need him fondling over every little sentence."

Kiyna weakly says, "I'll... see everyone tomorrow."

Speaking to Vaemyr, Kayse says, "I sent her word."

Kiyna holds back her tears, her eyes glistening with pain.

Town Councilor Kiyna just climbed down a narrow stairway.

Speaking to Leafiara, Chandrellia says, "Told you I was trying to keep it short and sweet."

Speaking to Vaemyr, Kayse asks, "She is not being charged for murder, why is she upset?"

Leafiara says, "All of us seem to be running about the same length, truthfully, other than Pukk."

Speaking to Kayse, Chandrellia says, "I think it's the picture certain people are painting of her."

Dendum says, "We have a balcony full of those from the south who heard a story of the Kiyna killing a citizen of the empire, and a protectorate that allows the empire to come in and steal our people for southern courts...."

Chandrellia says, "They were not of the empire, that we could tell."

Speaking evenly to Chandrellia, Kayse says, "Someone asked me a question of what I though the sailors' condition was and I answered. I didn't call her a murderer."

Speaking to Kayse, Chandrellia says, "I know I was there hon."

Kayse adds, "I am also not an empath as I stressed to the Marshal."

Speaking to Kayse, Chandrellia says, "Even if we had gotten to him in time, his injuries may have been to bad for me to help."

Chandrellia says, "We dont know."

Speaking to Kayse, Vaemyr says, "I can't fault you... for anything you said... I... am just sad."

Speaking to Vaemyr, Kayse says, "I do not know what she told you. Her and I have not discussed it."

Speaking to Vaemyr, Chandrellia says, "So were we actually the night it happened, we didn't prance around and drink after, it was actually very solemn on the deck."

Speaking casually to Leafiara, Kayse asks, "Are you going to walk us through a complete history of the Rooks tomorrow?"

Chandrellia says, "What hurts me the most, is that she did what she thought was right and is getting persecuted for it."

Speaking to Kayse, Leafiara replies, "No... just a bit of my own history since moving here."

Speaking to Chandrellia, Kayse says, "We all technically are."

Leafiara says, "The crowd has thinned, so I suppose I can say..." (at this point it's just Chandy, Kayse, Leafi, and Vaemyr)

Vaemyr says, "I... just, I've known Kiyna for so many years... I can't reconsile that she would of done that if she thought there was a better choice... but maybe I'm blind I just..."

Chandrellia says, "And it has nothing to do with what we are charged with, peole die at sea all the time."

Speaking to Vaemyr, Leafiara says, "I don't believe she did think there was a better choice."

Leafiara says, "I'm not sure I agree, but I don't believe she felt otherwise."

Leafiara says, "She was saddened over it all."

Chandrellia says, "We didn't really have much time to stop and debate, he was injured, how bad we dont know for sure, the Captain refused to stop due to the activity in the area. It's not our ship."

Leafiara says, "That's probably what we should have shown tonight, to be honest."

Leafiara says, "What she should have, rather."

Vaemyr says, "I know what ya meant."

Leafiara says, "Not everything's an intellectual argument to be won."

Leafiara says, "I get that it's a trial, but..."

Vaemyr says, "Anyways, what's done is done, I need... to go do what a father can do."

Town Councilor Vaemyr just climbed down a narrow stairway.

Leafiara says, "Wonder if Drektor will be here tomorrow."

Chandrellia says, "I will head to TSC and see if anyone wishes a Rook to heal them I suppose."

Kayse says, "I was wondering the same."

Kayse sighs, "It will be nice to wrap this up."

Leafiara says, "Hard to imagine we get through him, me, and then somehow still Samfelt and Casi..."
