Judge Renpaw just climbed up a narrow stairway.

''(much greeting of Renpaw)''

>look renpaw
You see Judge Renpaw.
He appears to be a Human.
He is average height. He appears to be old. He has tired grey eyes and tanned skin. He has receding, peppered grey-brown hair with a large bald spot. He has a broad face, a hooked nose and bushy eyebrows.
He is in good shape.
He is wearing a smooth grey leather satchel, a long regal black robe, a small navy leather pouch, a pair of satin-paned breeches, and a pair of scuffed black boots.

Lylia bows to Renpaw.

Renpaw bows to Lylia.

Renpaw bows.

Renpaw waves.

Renpaw exclaims, "Hello all!"

Renpaw says, "We all know I'm the real power and this shadow election is just for show."

Renpaw snickers to himself.

Renpaw says, "I jest..."

Renpaw waves his hand in a dismissive gesture.

Renpaw exclaims, "The hour is late, we shall begin!"

Renpaw says, "Here are the rules."

Renpaw says, "The candidates will join me downstairs. You may observe..."

Renpaw points at the viewing area.

Renpaw says, "I shall open the signup list in a moment, for anyone to sign up for a question. Once it is your turn, I will call for you, come down, and ask your question."

Renpaw says, "Your question can be addressed to one specific candidate, or all three."

Renpaw says, "In the event of all three, I will randomly determine the order of who answers."

Renpaw says, "I will remind you all, that I am Judge, Juror, and Executioner. So let's behave-ish."

Renpaw snickers to himself.

Renpaw just opened the signup list for 40 signups.

Renpaw says, "Candidates. Please head downstairs."

>go stairs
[Moot Hall, Chamber of Justice]
Two high-backed, elaborately carved chairs face the imposing, burnished oak bench where members of the official Town Council convene to decide matters of solemn importance. A narrow stairway leads up to a low balcony that surrounds the chamber, providing ample seating for interested visitors to observe the proceedings. You also see a modwir arch and an oak door.
Obvious exits: none

Leafiara just climbed down a narrow stairway.

Judge Renpaw just climbed down a narrow stairway.

Leafiara glances at a narrow stairway.

Faerinn just climbed down a narrow stairway.

Renpaw nods.

Leafiara grins.

Renpaw says, "Candidates, welcome, welcome."

Xorus nods slowly.

Leafiara amiably exclaims, "Good eve likewise!"

Faerinn says, "Thank you for having us, Your Honor."

Renpaw exclaims, "Let us begin!"

Renpaw yells, "Chamorr!"

Lord Chamorr just climbed down a narrow stairway.

Leafiara nods to Chamorr in greeting.

Chamorr heartily says, "Evenin."

'''Speaking heartily to Renpaw, Chamorr says, "I has a question fer each."'''

Speaking heartily to Renpaw, Chamorr says, "Thanks."

Renpaw nods at Chamorr.

Renpaw says, "Ask the question, then I will name the order."

'''Speaking heartily to Faerinn, Chamorr says, "How do plan to interact with the empire."'''

From up on a narrow stairway, you hear Dwi yell, "Throw a book attim!"

Xorus raises an eyebrow.

Chamorr glances at Renpaw.

Leafiara ventures, "If it's a different question for each of us, maybe ask all three and then the judge will decide the order?"

Faerinn nods.

Chamorr heartily says, "Ok."

Renpaw says, "Oh..."

Renpaw furrows his brow.

Renpaw says, "One question."

Renpaw nods at Chamorr.

Renpaw says, "This isn't Chamorr's Landing."

Leafiara nods understandingly.

'''Speaking heartily to Faerinn, Chamorr says, "How long ya been a citizen and how come i never seen ya afore."'''

Renpaw says, "Your question can be directed to one candidate, or all three."

Renpaw says, "But not 3 questions."

Chamorr sticks his tongue out at Renpaw, and lets out with a loud, "Thbtbtbtbt" from his lips!

Leafiara gazes in amusement at her surroundings.

Xorus takes a drink from his Faendryl absinthe.

Renpaw says, "You can rejoin the list for additional questions."

From up on a narrow stairway, you hear Maags yell, "Nice tries tho!"

Speaking heartily to Renpaw, Chamorr says, "Ok then thats me question."

Renpaw asks, "Which one to Faerinn?"

Chamorr nods at Renpaw.

Chamorr squints at Faerinn.

From up on a narrow stairway, you hear Allaena yell, "All three!"

Renpaw squints.

Faerinn says, "I've been a citizen longer than there has been citizenship kept on record. And I saw you last night so no clue why think you haven't seen me before."

Chamorr heartily says, "Not until recently."

Renpaw says, "How do plan to interact with the empire."

Renpaw says, "Answer that one too."

Renpaw nods.

Renpaw says, "We'll afford Chamorr a combo-question to be nice."

From up on a narrow stairway, you hear Allaena yell, "Go Chamoor!"

Speaking heartily to Renpaw, Chamorr says, "Caause im so good lookin."

Leafiara takes a moment to observe Chamorr.

Renpaw says, "No, because your citizenship question lacked a good kickoff ooomph we've come to love at debates."

Renpaw chuckles.

Leafiara grins.

From up on a narrow stairway, you hear Esmee yell, "Answer the Question already."

Renpaw turns an inquisitive ear toward Faerinn.

Leafiara takes a moment to observe Faerinn.

Faerinn says, "I would prefer we never got so entangled with the Empire, but we have to deal with that now. I've been warning for over two decades now that if we made the Empire our chief defenders we could only be conquered, deferred."

Renpaw says, "Also, candidates, either whisper to me, or nod to me, when you are done with your answer so I don't cut anyone off."

Faerinn says, "But I would see to it best of my abilities that the leash doesn't get tighter, but keeping Octaven's new position on the council doesn't drown out the other voices on it."

Faerinn corrects, "By keeping Octaven's new council seat from drowning out the others."

Faerinn nods at Renpaw.

Renpaw nods.

Renpaw says, "Thank you."

Renpaw says, "Chamorr.."

Renpaw nods at Chamorr.

Renpaw points at a narrow stairway.

Chamorr snaps his fingers, looking quite disappointed.

Renpaw yells, "Evia!"

Dame Evia just climbed down a narrow stairway.

Faerinn takes a drink from his strong black coffee.

Leafiara nods to Evia in greeting.

Chamorr heartily says, "I could help."

Evia says, "Good eve all."

Leafiara flashes a wide grin at Chamorr.

Xorus nods.

Lord Chamorr just climbed up a narrow stairway.

Evia forages around briefly but doesn't seem to find anything useful.

Leafiara amiably exclaims, "Good eve!"

Evia coughs.

Renpaw says, "There is no flax here."

Leafiara gazes in amusement at Evia.

'''Evia asks, "For all three. In light of the sometimes chaotic nature of this place we call home, as Mayor of Wehnimer's Landing, what will you personally do to assure all citizens that law and order will be maintained? Additionally, will you as Mayor in any way support vigilantism by any individual or group as a means to carrying out percieved justice without any lawful authority and what actions will you take to discourage and blunt any such actions by any individual or group?"'''

From up on a narrow stairway, you hear Maylan yell, "FLAX!"

Renpaw says, "So ask your question and reflax."

Renpaw snickers to himself.

Evia says, "Was lookin fer a flax."

Evia grins.

From up on a narrow stairway, you hear Allaena yell, "All three of them should have answered Chamoors question!"

Leafiara amusedly says, "We know."

Dark red droplets seep out of Evia's skin and evaporate.

Leafiara winks at Evia.

Renpaw says, "Leafiara, Xorus, Faerinn."

Leafiara nods.

Leafiara says, "I've been pretty satisfied with the job Khylon's done as town guard, despite his... many troubles of the past."

Elphieya just came through a modwir arch.

Elphieya just climbed up a narrow stairway.

Leafiara says, "I'll support him in his everyday endeavors, and truly I don't think we're nearly as lawless as some seem to."

Leafiara adds, "...like the Empire."

Leafiara narrows her eyes.

From up on a narrow stairway, you hear Allaena yell, "You tell them Leafiara!"

Leafiara says, "As far as vigilantism goes, everyone has the right to self-defense and many things have to be taken on a case-by-case basis, by our judge here."

Leafiara says, "When things go too far, we'll deal with it as it arises, like with Malluch."

Leafiara adds, "Who I helped Captain Stormyrain capture, aiding her ritual that night."

Leafiara looks thoughtfully at Evia.

Evia asks, "The question was as to the support of vigilante actions, so I should take that of non-support of such?"

Leafiara says, "Ah, yes, you should."

Evia nods.

Leafiara admits, "I was wondering whether I'd answering what you were asking."

Leafiara grins.

Evia says, "Quite alright."

From up on a narrow stairway, you hear Esmee yell, "What about the Black Hand group are they a vigilanty group?"

Leafiara says, "Whether I'd been answering, rather."

Leafiara clears her throat.

Leafiara says, "I don't have any particular plans to discourage it, I will say."

Leafiara says, "Vigilante groups have eluded mayors for years, so we'll need to get creativ."

Evia smiles.

Leafiara says, "And to that end I'd welcome any and all feedback in my weekly meetings on town defense and other pressing matters."

Leafiara nods at Renpaw.

Renpaw nods at Leafiara.

Renpaw says, "Xorus."

Xorus says, "The worst element of vigilantism is not the retribution, but the sedition in usurping the monopoly of force possessed by the rulers of a dominion."

Leafiara looks thoughtfully at Xorus.

Xorus says, "Civil disobedience is still disobedience, but outright insurrection is sedition and treason."

From up on a narrow stairway, you hear Esmee yell, "Can you repeat that in words that us commoners can understand?"

Xorus says, "I wish to introduce to this township the severity of laws we know in the Faendryl Empire. The removal of hands or eyes for theft. Whipping for assault, flaying for assault with deadly weapons."

Xorus says, "There should be public executions for violent crimes and those of a serious character."

Xorus says, "With respect to enforcing the law in the first place, I will support the town guard and constabulary however they see fit, and perhaps eventually supplement it with my own death squads."

Xorus nods at Renpaw.

Evia smiles.

Renpaw nods.

Renpaw gazes in wonder at his surroundings.

Renpaw says, "Faerinn."

Faerinn says, "Due to previous boughts of vigilantism by previous Mayors with flaming skeleton arms there is a very thick wall separating the offices of the Mayor and the Constabulary."

From up on a narrow stairway, you hear Esmee yell, "What death squads?"

Faerinn says, "Now, if you are talking about the Rooks then I would love to see them turn themselves in for a far trial or brought in by the Constabulary but not by vigilantes....that would defeat the whole purpose."

Faerinn says, "Hired killers like the Black Hand aren't vigilantes, just murderers."

Faerinn says, "If you are talking about Pylasar, until he is present to face his accusers it is a mock trial at best."

Faerinn nods at Renpaw.

Evia says, "I thank you all for your thoughtful and thought provoking answers, good luck to all."

Evia nods at Renpaw.

Leafiara turns toward Evia and renders a sharp hand salute.

Dame Evia just climbed up a narrow stairway.

Renpaw bows.

Renpaw yells, "Mayor Lylia!"

Mayor Lylia just climbed down a narrow stairway.

Lylia inclines her head.

Leafiara nods to Lylia in greeting.

Lylia nods respectfully at Renpaw.

Lylia says, "Thank you, Your Honor. My question is to all three candidates."

Faerinn nods to Lylia in greeting.

Renpaw nods.

Leafiara tilts her head toward Lylia, examining her intently as the tip of one ear twitches briefly.

'''Lylia asks, "It is said that while history does not repeat itself, it does rhyme. What lessons do you take from history, if any, and how do you feel this will help you as mayor of Wehnimer's Landing?"'''

Lylia folds her hands.

Renpaw says, "Xorus, Faerinn, Leafiara."

Xorus nods slowly.

Xorus says, "History is a matter of lived experience for someone such as myself who is older than the Turamzzyrian Empire."

Lylia nods to Xorus.

Lylia sniffs at a wild black rose.

Xorus says, "The intricacies of the balance of great powers is essentially timeless, it is only the context of a given time and what motivates them that differs."

From up on a narrow stairway, you hear Esmee yell, "That was or is a very vague answer Xorus!"

Lylia turns around.

Lylia narrows her eyes.

Lylia turns to face Xorus.

Renpaw turns an inquisitive ear toward you.

Xorus says, "... and so having witnessed Empress Selantha crush the Kannalan Alliance, or Chaston Kestrel establish his edict, or Perrinor Rysus establish feudalism with his codex is all instructive to understanding how matters work."

Xorus says, "I will know best how to handle Earl Jovery of the Broken Kingdom, or the Sovereign Commander of House Vaalor, and all other powers who would make issues for us."

Xorus nods at Renpaw.

Lylia says, "More than specific enough to suit me. Thank you, Xorus."

Renpaw nods.

Renpaw says, "Faerinn."

Lylia turns to face Faerinn.

Leafiara takes a moment to observe Faerinn.

Faerinn says, "I certainly see it rhyming right now. I started my law career with Grishom Stone framing a Mayor and trying to buy his way into this office. Now a decade later, here we are at my own campaign for Mayor and Stone tries to buy his way in here. He was never able buy me out at the trial, can't even get me to be polite to him now, and he's obsessed with me as a result."

Faerinn says, "The lesson I would take from that is do not give him what he wants, but what he wants is never what he tells you he wants."

Lylia chuckles.

Faerinn says, "What Stone wants to this town to be at each others throats, when he could have claimed his man whenever he wanted without spilling any blood."

Faerinn says, "Let's not give him the satisfaction."

Lylia gazes with interest at Faerinn.

Renpaw turns an inquisitive ear toward Faerinn.

Faerinn says, "But remember that self styled blood god is still salty after all these years he couldn't even make it this far in a mayoral race."

Leafiara gazes in amusement at her surroundings.

Faerinn nods at Renpaw.

Renpaw nods.

Renpaw nods at Leafiara.

Speaking to Faerinn, Lylia says, "Thank you."

Lylia smiles.

Faerinn grins.

Leafiara says, "One thing that jumps out to me when reading up on history is how long it can take for change to come about."

Leafiara says, "Centuries passed between the Chaston's Edict that Xorus mentioned earlier, and the Rysus Codex which replaced it."

Xorus shrugs.

Leafiara says, "Comparatively, around here things can change very quickly."

Lylia murmurs, "They would appear to, yes."

Leafiara says, "The word Evia used earlier, the chaotic nature of our town--that much I'd agree with. We have so many voices and walks that we're able to make discoveries pretty quickly, to the point that organizations like the Hall of Mages still seek our help in solving problems such as the blight."

Leafiara says, "So I intend to continue calling on all of our resources."

Lylia clarifies, "So, you see the town in terms less of history than of current events?"

Speaking to Lylia, Leafiara says, "What do you mean by that, exactly? We certainly have a place in history."

Leafiara furrows her brow.

Leafiara says, "Not as long-lasting of one as most other towns and cities, but an impactful one."

Renpaw says, "One question."

Renpaw grins.

Leafiara relents, "Ah, fair."

Leafiara says, "Finishing that, then..."

Lylia says, "I mean that, if you are talking about 'making discoveries pretty quickly' and referring to the centuries that have passed between Chaston's Edict and the Rysus Codex, you are seeing things more in terms of decades, not centuries or millennia."

Lylia says, "We are, of course, not the ones at the debate. We have gone that round before."

Lylia smiles at Leafiara.

Leafiara chuckles.

Lylia adds, "I enjoyed it then too."

Lylia nods appreciatively.

Leafiara grins at Lylia.

Leafiara says, "I'll finish with this: what I said does tie in to the Grishom Stone situation as well."

Lylia nods.

Leafiara says, "As a matter of history 'rhyming,' it was a bit difficult to outmaneuver Malluch not only because of his gauntlets, but because of his abilities as a Jastevian seer."

Leafiara says, "Grishom too will be able to see some of our plans against him."

Lylia nods in agreement.

Leafiara says, "So we're going to need to split resources across multiple fronts, as we did then."

Leafiara nods at Renpaw.

Renpaw nods.

Renpaw says, "Thank you candidates, Lady Mayor."

Lylia nods graciously.

Leafiara turns toward Lylia and renders a sharp hand salute.

Lylia says, "Thank you all."

Lylia smiles.

Faerinn nods.

Mayor Lylia just climbed up a narrow stairway.

Renpaw yells, "Soneiken!"

Soneiken just climbed down a narrow stairway.

Leafiara nods to Soneiken in greeting.

Soneiken nods.

'''Soneiken says, "Honorable Judge, Candidates, Good evening. My Name is Soneiken Munson, I'm not a votong citizen, however, my Benefactors hold great sway with many who do vote, and So with vested interest, I ask this question of all three of you."'''

Leafiara tilts her head toward Soneiken, examining him intently as the tip of one ear twitches briefly.

Soneiken nods.

Renpaw nods.

'''Soneiken says, "As an Emissary from Kharam Dzu, sent by the Borthuum Clan, My task to protect and preserve the Harbor, and the Shipping lanes for the Travel of the Star to Teras. Candidates, we have more than Glaes in Dzu, and Trade and friendship is all important for an Island Community. It seems more so than ever that the Landing chooses to keep it's eyes on Percieved threats, and forgets that they have Freinds and neighbors, what will each of you do reinvest in our Trade Routes, and friendship of our neighboring communities?"'''

Soneiken says, "Specifically Kharam Dzu and teras."

Leafiara nods understandingly.

Soneiken nods at Renpaw.

Renpaw says, "Faerinn, Leafiara, Xorus."

Juspera just climbed down a narrow stairway.

Faerinn says, "I would love to see the friendship between the Isles and the Landing rekindled."

Soneiken smiles at Faerinn.

Faerinn asks, "Now, if you're asking what dowry I would send to try and woo them?"

Faerinn says, "I think it would be tables."

Faerinn grins at Soneiken.

Soneiken says, "More so about insuring no additional Tariffs, ect. and an open free market, undisturbed by ancilliary interests."

Faerinn says, "But in all seriousness we would love to talk to y'all and find out what you really need."

Soneiken nods at Faerinn.

Faerinn says, "And try to come up with a trade agreement to submit to the council."

Faerinn says, "Preferably something every party involved hates."

Leafiara chuckles.

Faerinn says, "That's a true sign of a good compromise."

Soneiken smirks.

Faerinn nods at Renpaw.

Renpaw nods at Leafiara.

Leafiara nods.

Soneiken turns an inquisitive ear toward Leafiara.

Leafiara says, "If we've recently seemed a bit focused on threats instead of trade, I'd attribute that to the blight troubling us for close to a year now. The Landing got its start as a trading town with our nice geographic location, so improving trade is always on our minds in some sense--but the waters of our bay being blood has been slightly problematic."

Leafiara grins at Soneiken.

Soneiken nods at Leafiara.

Soneiken says, "Agreed."

Leafiara says, "I'll echo Faerinn here to some extent: please, bring your representatives and clientele to us and we'd love to discuss what would suit us best."

Leafiara wryly says, "I'll not echo the part about it being something everyone hates."

Leafiara says, "But I admire the dwarves' tenacity."

Leafiara unfastens the emerald music note pin on her red silk cape and opens it, no longer needing the extra protection from the weather outside.

Leafiara grabs a perfect imflass forging-hammer from one of the small pouches lining the inside of her red silk cape.

Leafiara taps a perfect imflass forging-hammer, which is in her right hand.

Leafiara grins.

Leafiara tucks a perfect imflass forging-hammer into one of the small pouches lining the inside of her red silk cape.

Soneiken grins at Leafiara.

Leafiara says, "I know they, and all on Teras, have a lot to offer."

Leafiara nods.

Leafiara nods at Renpaw.

Renpaw nods.

Renpaw says, "Xorus."

Soneiken turns an inquisitive ear toward you.

Leafiara takes a moment to observe Xorus.

Xorus says, "There is no absolute distinction between matters of trade and military concerns, one need only consider that the murderous ape pirates of Glaoveln are the major reason this is still a fairly small port town after two hundred years."

Soneiken nods to Xorus.

Xorus says, "When I finally receive the notes of Praxopius Fortney on how he adapted my work to poison their war leader Kragnack, I will work on expanding it so that I may annihilate them the soil and seas of the world. The shipping routes to Teras will become quite free for commerce."

From up on a narrow stairway, you hear Esmee yell, "You sound like a war monger yourselff!"

Xorus says, "Beyond that I will have warm relations with the Empire, who I will encourage to stomp on piracy with its navy, and with House Vaalor to keep the routes clear to Icemule and Zul Logoth."

Xorus says, "That being said, the mayor of the town is not a merchant prince, able to direct airships as does the Mirror."

Soneiken nods to Xorus.

Xorus says, "I intend on making this a hub of international finance, as the only place on the continent with such mingling of races and cultures, which would include import and export banks and the speculative trade in bills of exchange."

Speaking to Xorus, Soneiken says, "Remember, we will work in unison with your mayor."

Xorus says, "This would be of great potential benefit for trade in goods toward Teras."

Soneiken beams happily at Xorus!

Xorus nods at Renpaw.

Renpaw nods.

Renpaw says, "Thank you candidates."

Soneiken says, "Thank You candidates for your thoughtful answers."

Soneiken nods.

Faerinn nods at Soneiken.

Soneiken just climbed up a narrow stairway.

A gentle voice whispers, "You will be forever alone."

A town clerk walks in and shows a basket full of feathers to Renpaw.

Renpaw nods.

Leafiara cocks her head at Renpaw.

Renpaw says, "Let's see if Esmee can shout with a mouth full of those and tar."

Renpaw nods.

Leafiara chuckles.

Faerinn grins.

Xorus says, "Excellent."

Bbee says, "Hi."

The clerk runs off with the basket.

Bbee says, "I am Bbee."

Leafiara notes, "Does seem to be a detractor of all tonight."

Leafiara nods to Bbee in greeting.

Renpaw faces Bbee and lets loose a mighty shout!

Xorus nods at Bbee.

Renpaw says, "Oh, there you are."

Xorus says, "Our pharmacist."

'''Bbee says, "MY question is for all the candidates."'''

'''Bbee says, "It's simple."'''

'''Bbee says, "I have been licensed to peddle my drugs by the current mayor."'''

Leafiara grins at Bbee.

'''Bbee asks, "I want to know if I will be able to get my license renewed under your administration?"'''

Renpaw says, "Leafiara, Xorus, Faerinn."

Bbee says, "If you wish to see my current license."

Leafiara simply says, "Yes, you'll be able and I'd renew it."

Bbee says, "You can pass it around."

Leafiara adds, "I'm still carrying a few of your pills right now and your potions have been very helpful."

Bbee offers Leafiara a piece of gilt-edged parchment.

Leafiara says, "And you're a find and upstanding citizen that everyone who frequents the square knows."

Leafiara nods at Bbee.

Leafiara accepts Bbee's gilt-edged parchment.

Leafiara grins.

Leafiara offers Bbee a piece of gilt-edged parchment.

Leafiara nods at Renpaw.

Bbee accepts Leafiara's gilt-edged parchment.

Renpaw nods.

Leafiara corrects, "A fine, rather, not a find. ...that too, though."

Leafiara grins.

Renpaw nods to Xorus.

Bbee smiles.

Bbee's cheeks flush a deep shade of dark rose.

Bbee says, "Florting will get you no where."

Bbee coughs.

Bbee says, "Flirting."

Xorus says, "Narcotics will be a state controlled enterprise under my rule, I intend on offering it as a deal to the Rooks to stay within their shipping lane, so to speak, with an elixir I call Elven Jade made from poppy and dreamvine of the Red Forest."

Xorus says, "So, yes. I will renew your license."

Xorus nods at Renpaw.

Renpaw nods at Faerinn.

Leafiara nods understandingly.

Speaking to Xorus, Bbee asks, "Did you wish to see the current one?"

Faerinn says, "Yes, I'd renew the license. I'm not running for Constabulary or to be the Landing's mom."

Leafiara chuckles.

Xorus says, "You can show me later."

Renpaw says, "Thank you."

Bbee smiles.

Xorus nods at Bbee.

Bbee nods.

Faerinn says, "Recreational drugs are fine in moderation."

Faerinn nods at Renpaw.

Renpaw yells, "Xanthium!"

Xanthium just climbed down a narrow stairway.

Xanthium smiles.

Leafiara turns toward Bbee and renders a sharp hand salute.

Xanthium says, "Good evening, everyone. Thank you for hearing me."

Leafiara nods to Xanthium in greeting.

Bbee says, "Thank you."

Bbee just climbed up a narrow stairway.

'''Xanthium says, "We've heard a great deal about the institutions of law and order, tonight. Reasons why certain elements should keep their noses and fingers out of lives and business, here. But what will you all do, to encourage people to take a chance, with the Landing? To visit, to do business, or even move here? My question is for all of you."'''

Faerinn nods.

Xanthium folds her hands behind her back.

Renpaw says, "Xorus, Faerinn, Leafiara."

Xanthium drops smoothly into a deep curtsy before Renpaw, sweeping her arms grandly to her sides.

Xanthium reaches up behind her neck, fiddling with her emerald velvet gown a moment.

Xanthium smiles at Xorus.

Xorus says, "Law and order, and security, are essential to drawing immigration. In the past I have made detailed proposals on how to make this a world center of finance, and I would make the region prosperous so that they will want to reside here permanently."

Xanthium nods slowly to Xorus.

Xorus says, "Most of our trade is with the northern imperial territories, and I intend on keeping us in good stead with the Northern Sentinel, after all of the unfortunate bad blood in the past decade."

Xorus says, "I will seek with time to secure letters patent from Earl Jovery such that all raw materials transported in bulk from the whole 'imperial protectorate', not only our port, must come with our seal or be treated as smuggling and contraband under imperial law."

Xanthium blinks at Xorus.

Xanthium nods slowly.

Xorus says, "In this way we will be owed excise taxes on the raw resources of our surroundings and be greatly enabled in developing ourselves."

Xorus nods at Renpaw.

Renpaw nods at Faerinn.

Faerinn says, "First of all, I would like to create a public arts registry to log and preserve all of the public art in the Landing. Make sure its protected and repaired. If we look like we can take care of our things then maybe the Empire wouldn't feel like it would have to micromanage us, and encourage visitation and trade from outside our walls."

Faerinn says, "I would also, as mayor, like to propose to the council grants and small business loans in order to revitalize our night life and turn this town from a curiosity and layover to a destination. While also strengthening the town's coffers."

Xanthium smiles at Faerinn.

Faerinn says, "And I think that temple in the Vipershroud would be killing two birds with one stone on those matters."

Faerinn grins.

Faerinn nods at Renpaw.

Xanthium laughs softly, trying to hide her amusement.

Renpaw grins.

Renpaw nods at Leafiara.

Speaking to Faerinn, Xanthium says, "We don't kill the birds there, we sing like them."

Faerinn nods at Xanthium.

Xanthium turns to face Leafiara.

Speaking to Xanthium, Faerinn says, "Fair enough then."

Leafiara says, "I intend to get our population as involved as it's ever been, with frequent open discussions among our citizens so that they can feel that they're able to make a difference if they want so."

Leafiara says, "I think the strength and the allure of the Landing have been one and the same, our uniqueness, so I want to emphasize that even further."

Leafiara says, "There are already many places to live that are safe and prosperous, or with a great deal of contributions to the arts."

Xanthium looks thoughtfully at Leafiara.

From up on a narrow stairway, you hear Esmee yell, "Pukk for Mayor!"

Xorus takes a drink from his Faendryl absinthe.

Faerinn takes a drink from his strong black coffee.

Leafiara says, "So improvements on those fronts are a good idea, and certainly I'd like to improve some of our... less well-kept establishments... but that wouldn't be my primary method of drawing people here."

Xanthium ponders.

Xanthium asks, "...so, chaos tourism?"

Leafiara grins at Xanthium.

Leafiara admits, "Not quite, but I like the sound of it."

Leafiara clarifies, "No, I'm talking about immigration."

Xanthium ponders.

Faerinn furrows his brow.

Xanthium asks, "...immigration and less than well-kept establishments?"

Faerinn blinks.

Leafiara says, "Many feel detached from their political leaders, in places around the world."

Leafiara says, "So I'll be aiming to change that."

From up on a narrow stairway, you hear Dwi yell, "Mention da seats Elphy!"

Xanthium nods slowly at Leafiara.

Renpaw grins.

Leafiara says, "As for our establishments, they're always hit hard by our enemies and I want to build them to be more resilient. That part is for citizens as well as travelers."

Leafiara nods.

Leafiara nods at Renpaw.

Renpaw says, "Thank you."

Xanthium says, "Thank you."

Xanthium curtsies to Renpaw.

Xanthium just climbed up a narrow stairway.

Renpaw yells, "Maylan!"

Leafiara musingly says, "This should be interesting."

Land Pirate Maylan just climbed down a narrow stairway.

Leafiara nods to Maylan in greeting.

Maylan winks.

Maylan thumps her mop-fringed pegleg on the floor in three rapid successions.

Maylan clears her throat.

'''Maylan asks, "How will you lot rid our town of the tyranny of the Chronomages?"'''

'''Maylan belligerently proclaims, "Justice for Pylasar! Toss Chrysamber in Time Jail! Harrrrrrrrrrr!"'''

(Maylan spits on the floor.)

Leafiara grins at Maylan.

Xorus smirks.

Renpaw says, "Faerinn, Leafiara, Xorus."

Faerinn ponders.

Faerinn says, "Slowly contaminate the gold rings with lead and mercury."

Maylan grins evilly.

Faerinn says, "As they are reclaimed...the Chronomages will lose their minds."

Maylan exclaims, "Oh, ho! Genius!"

Faerinn says, "We call this a slow burn."

Xorus nods approvingly.

Faerinn nods at Renpaw.

Leafiara says, "So essentially the Cordarius plan."

Renpaw nods at Leafiara.

Leafiara rubs her chin thoughtfully.

Maylan asks, "The mana fires and whatnot?"

Leafiara nods at Maylan.

Speaking excitedly to Leafiara, Maylan asks, "Feed em to the blight?"

Leafiara clarifies, "I mean that's more or less what Faerinn's plan was."

Leafiara chuckles.

Maylan dejectedly says, "Oh."

Leafiara says, "They've resisted the blight so far, in their travel office, so not sure that one would quite work out."

Leafiara grins.

Speaking to Faerinn, Leafiara concedes, "I like it. I can't top that one in a span of two minutes. Let's go with that."

Leafiara nods at Faerinn.

Leafiara nods at Renpaw.

Renpaw nods to Xorus.

Maylan reasonably says, "No need to reinvent the wheel."

Leafiara nods in agreement at Maylan.

Xorus says, "Certain elements in our town were associated two years ago with a certain thief named Twiddley who seduced the desk keeper at the Library of Biblia."

Xorus says, "This led to the liberation of a very well kept secret book on their travel magic."

Maylan blinks at Xorus.

Xorus says, "Their 'time tunnels' ended up interacting with the flow patterns of our own spells, allowing greatly expanded range in some cases."

Xorus says, "I would be in favor of arranging more secrets of the Chronomages to go missing from their Library of Biblia."

Maylan gazes at Xorus.

Xorus says, "They will eventually go bankrupt and kill themselves."

Xorus nods at Renpaw.

Maylan says, "OH BOY."

Renpaw nods.

Maylan applauds.

Renpaw says, "Thank you all."

Land Pirate Maylan just climbed up a narrow stairway.

Renpaw yells, "Chamorr!"

Lord Chamorr just climbed down a narrow stairway.

Renpaw says, "We have one more question after Chamorr."

Leafiara grins crookedly at Chamorr.

Chamorr nods.

Renpaw says, "Then I have a question and we will end."

'''Chamorr heartily says, "What would you do to change and benefit the lives of our folks in shanty town."'''

Chamorr heartily says, "For all three."

Xorus takes a drink from his Faendryl absinthe.

Leafiara nods.

Renpaw says, "Leafiara, Xorus, Faerinn."

Lady Esmee just came through a modwir arch.

Esmee glares.

Lady Esmee just climbed up a narrow stairway.

Leafiara says, "So far Shanty Town has proven to be rather difficult to improve, despite the best efforts of many from Puptilian to Maylan, Pukk, Mother, and Thadston and the rest of the town council."
rway.

Leafiara says, "But I have to give Praxopius Fortney this much: he did some good for them."

Leafiara says, "I think the change has to come more from within the citizens there than from us on the outside, at least if the past is any indication."

Leafiara says, "So taking another of Praxopius' ideas, as well as tying in with what Soneiken was asking earlier, we could create opporutnities for them as ship builders."

Leafiara adds, "This time for our own ships and not the Empire's."

Leafiara says, "We'd look into promoting other business skills for them as well, of course, but that alone is a large scale endeavor and a good place to start."

Leafiara nods at Renpaw.

Renpaw nods.

Renpaw nods to Xorus.

Xorus says, "I am told that it is impractical to make being impoverished illegal and banish all who fail to comply."

Xorus says, "I am not convinced this is true, but there are other options."

Chamorr heartily asks, "Death squads?"

Xorus smirks.

Xorus says, "Even options before that."

Leafiara chuckles.

Chamorr heartily says, "But that is an option, then."

Xorus says, "The difficulty with these shanty dwellers is that they do not hold legal title to the hovels and land they are squatting upon, which makes them unable to use it as collateral for loans to improve their station."

Xorus says, "When I reform the banks this is something we can fix."

Xorus says, "Of course, if they land themselves in our debtor's prison, that will settle the matter in a different way."

Xorus nods at Renpaw.

Chamorr rubs his chin thoughtfully.

Renpaw nods at Faerinn.

Faerinn says, "I had mentioned before wanting to propose to the council grants and loans to assist in rebuilding not only the town, but its coffers. I would especially like those to be offered in Shanty Town. Not only to get people there to open their own businesses and establishments, but for seeking training and apprenticeships."

Faerinn says, "All while having their needs for food and shelter met, because people are better at improving their own lives if they aren't struggling to met their basic needs."

Faerinn nods at Renpaw.

Renpaw nods.

Renpaw says, "Thank you."

Chamorr glances at Renpaw.

Renpaw yells, "Eledryn!"

Master Eledryn just climbed down a narrow stairway.

Lord Chamorr just climbed up a narrow stairway.

Leafiara nods to Eledryn in greeting.

Eledryn bows to Renpaw.

Speaking to Renpaw, Eledryn says, "Thank you for organizing this forum. I've learned quite a bit about all of our candidates today."

Eledryn says, "This question is for everyone."

'''Eledryn says, "In the wake of the events of the blight and Raznel's influence, many of the common folk found themselves jobless -- with no crops to harvest or no fish to catch. To make matters worse, they found themselves with no livelihood at a time when food itself was scarce, and the entire situation left many of them hopeless."'''

Renpaw says, "Xorus, Faerinn, Leafiara."

'''Eledryn asks, "What sort of plans do you have to protect the livelihoods of the commoners should Wehnimer's Landing find herself in a similar situation in the future?"'''

Xorus raises an eyebrow.

Eledryn turns an inquisitive ear toward Xorus.

Xorus says, "What the Hall of Mages is doing with the blight is only delaying the fundamental problem, which is that like the Wizardwaste, the Bleaklands will eventually expand and consume this region."

Xorus says, "They are like a carpenter's guild who has tasked itself with mending a stone wall in a city where they managed to outlaw masonry."

Xorus says, "As I told Grand Magister Octaven some months ago, Raznel worked with demon blood, and the blight and the Bleaklands clearly share roots in it."

Xorus says, "With each of her works we get rid of without unraveling the methods she used, much like an artist with a limited repertoire of techniques, the more difficult it will become to halt the Bleaklands as we will have nothing else of hers to study."

Xorus says, "This may sound tangential to your question, but if this eventuality is allowed to happen, there is no precaution we will take that can overcome the Bleakworld."

Xorus says, "But in the instance of a more ordinary famine or some such hardship, as I have said, making us into a mecca of finance and commerce will keep employment and food separate from our own farming."

Xorus says, "... and we might keep emergency silos with spare capacities of grain or what have you."

Xorus nods at Renpaw.

Renpaw says, "Faerinn."

Faerinn says, "I would like to see the kind of services I detailed in the aid of Shanty Town to be turned as financial public safety nets to ensure that things never get that bad again. A community is only as strong as their weakest members so its in the interest of the community that every member is healthy, feed, and sheltered."

Faerinn nods at Renpaw.

From up on a narrow stairway, you hear Esmee yell, "Good answer!"

Eledryn glances at a narrow stairway.

Faerinn chuckles.

Eledryn sighs.

Eledryn turns an inquisitive ear toward Faerinn.

Renpaw nods.

Renpaw says, "Leafiara."

Eledryn turns an inquisitive ear toward Leafiara.

Leafiara says, "I'd like to expand Landing jurisdiction. This has been tried before and was voted down, but hopefully after this latest crisis we can see the merits of being able to use more of the land and sea around us."

Leafiara says, "In essence, giving us more territory to work with, and spreading our eggs into more baskets geographically."

Renpaw grins.

Leafiara says, "Breshon Caulfield was also a good aid with importing food, and there's room to work with the Empire more to some extent to our mutual benefit."

Leafiara adds, "I say, even though some have somehow pegged me as an anti-Imperial candidate."

Leafiara grins.

Xorus takes a drink of his Faendryl absinthe.

Leafiara says, "As long as they don't try to seize more power here like opportunists, I'm amenable to strictly business relationships."

Leafiara admits, "That is a big if."

Leafiara nods at Renpaw.

Renpaw nods.

From up on a narrow stairway, you hear Pukk yell, "Down with the imps!"

From up on a narrow stairway, you hear Soliere yell, "List done disapeared.. an' i be a Shanty Town shack owner wishin ta have one say with th'candidates prettie please, Judge? Will you gimme a quick chance?"

Eledryn bows.

Leafiara turns toward Eledryn and renders a sharp hand salute.

Renpaw says, "Thank you Eledryn."

Eledryn says, "Thank you all."

Eledryn turns around.

Master Eledryn just climbed up a narrow stairway.

'''Renpaw says, "Because the hour is late, I will ask one final question to all three of you."'''

'''Renpaw says, "I ask that you please keep it brief, and then that will conclude our debate."'''

Leafiara nods.

Faerinn nods at Renpaw.

'''Renpaw says, "The order will be Xorus, Leafiarra, and Faerinn."'''

'''Renpaw says, "First, I thank all of you for your time and patience and answers tonight."'''

From up on a narrow stairway, you hear Esmee yell, "Let the Shanty town home owner ask a question!"

'''Renpaw says, "I thank most of the crowd above for coming. Most of them."'''

'''Renpaw says, "My question to you all is..."'''

'''Renpaw says, "If you were not campaigning yourself, which other candidate would you vote for as Mayor, and why?"'''

Renpaw says, "The order will be Xorus, Leafiarra, and Faerinn."

Xorus raises an eyebrow.

Xorus says, "The town would be served adequately by either of them as Mayor, and perhaps I will appoint one as Lord Mayor when I am coronated Baron of Darkstone."

Renpaw smirks.

Xorus says, "I will say Faerinn simply because I suspect he is less likely to cause a war with House Vaalor."

Xorus nods at Renpaw.

Renpaw nods.

From up on a narrow stairway, you hear Esmee yell, "Baron? you are surely crazy!"

Renpaw says, "Leafiara."

Leafiara says, "Tempted as I am to say Faerinn because it's clear he has no patience with the Empire..."

From up on a narrow stairway, you hear Bbee yell, "Say me!"

Leafiara says, "Xorus has the more clear long-term vision and I'm curious how much of it he could feasibly implement or even attempt to in just one or two years."
>nod

Xorus nods.

Renpaw nods.

Renpaw says, "Faerinn."

Leafiara says, "And his words don't ever ring as a politician's."

Leafiara nods.

Speaking to Faerinn, Leafiara says, "Yours occasionally do."

Leafiara grins.

Leafiara nods at Renpaw.

Faerinn says, "Xorus, because I would love seeing a Faendryl Baron of the Empire. Also, he's very unlikely to start a war with Ta'Vaalor."

Xorus takes a drink of his Faendryl absinthe.

Leafiara chuckles.

Renpaw nods.

Renpaw grins.

Renpaw says, "Thank you again candidates, and most everyone in the balcony above."

Faerinn nods.

Xorus says, "I trust I may count on the support of the ruling family of Bourth."

Renpaw exclaims, "This ends our mayoral debate!"

Leafiara turns toward Renpaw and renders a sharp hand salute.

From up on a narrow stairway, you hear Esmee yell, "I know you meant me by that comment!"
From up on a narrow stairway, you hear Maylan yell, "Bravo bravo! Harrrrr!"
From up on a narrow stairway, you hear Lylia yell, "Thank you all!"

Leafiara gazes in amusement at Renpaw.

Faerinn chuckles.

From up on a narrow stairway, you hear Ribbet yell, "Vote Faerinn! A brighter future!"
From up on a narrow stairway, you hear Lylia yell, "Our lord is the Dreadlord!"

Renpaw says, "The voting booths will open on the 21st!"

From up on a narrow stairway, you hear Maylan yell, "Time Jail for the Chronomages!"
From up on a narrow stairway, you hear Dwi yell, "Next play...put some songs innit!"

Speaking to Renpaw, Leafiara says, "The sedition's started with Esmee and Pukk, apparently."

From up on a narrow stairway, you hear Bbee yell, "Well handled Renpaw!"

Leafiara chuckles.

From up on a narrow stairway, you hear Roche yell, "Vote Leafiara! Embrace the Chaos!"

Renpaw bows.

Judge Renpaw just went through a modwir arch.

Xorus glances at a modwir arch.

From up on a narrow stairway, you hear Ebonica yell, "Obey Xorus. 'Nuff said!"

Leafiara stretches her arms out in front of her, attempting to loosen the tension in her neck and shoulders.

Faerinn twists his head slightly, cracking his neck. He looks relieved.

Leafiara acknowledges, "The questions always manage to be surprising every time."

Faerinn ponders.

From up on a narrow stairway, you hear Lylia yell, "Come up to the observation balcony and get your applause!"

Leafiara says, "Pills and potions, the important matters."
