Onar is known as the Assassin of the Gods.

Most often working at the behest of Eorgina, Onar is professionally cold and calculating. He never chooses a target without a reason. His services are used whenever a single death will achieve Eorgina's ends. Onar also serves the other Gods, but always at a price. What coin can pay a God is not for mortals to guess at, but the Dark Gods seem to use his services regularly against mortals who cross them. In many courts of law, possession by Onar is a defense to a charge of murder. Such possession can usually be detected by the presence of a skull marking somewhere on the body of the one possessed.

Onar's true form is unknown, as he acts almost exclusively through the hands of others. In manner, he is cold-blooded and emotionless. His symbol is a broken white skull on a field of black.

Legend

One ancient elven legend relates obsidian to Onar, patron of assassins. According to this legend, after Fash'lo'nae first brought fire to the mortal races, there was a stir of powerful anger, for both the Great Drakes and the majority of the Arkati agreed that the mortal races should not have fire. The force of this divine anger created a vessel by which the desire for revenge could be executed -- Onar, a powerful spirit, who knew nothing of anger and everything of death. Onar possessed the first man ever to build fire and used his talented hands to knap an obsidian blade. This blade was the first weapon ever possessed by a mortal. Night after night, controlled by Onar, the man went into the darkness and killed his cohorts, causing them to believe that this marvelous new tool, fire, was cursed and would bring the mysterious open-throated death to those who used it. One night, however, the man was observed in his actions by a mortal woman, and she saw the obsidian blade that he used. The woman figured out how to create a similar blade, and then, when the man attacked her, she found that she could create the open-throated death just as well as he could. Brought by Onar, murder had become a tool of mortals, and mortals never forgot how to kill. (GM Scribes)

Shrines, Statuary, and Holy Places

Wehnimer's Landing, Coastal Cliffs shrine

[Mossy Caverns, Shrine]
Seven monoliths form a crude triangle in this room. Thin beams of wood with glowing vines growing on them have been placed on the top of the stones. The strange canopy and silent stone guardians seem to lend the shrine a dark sense of security. You also see a hewn obsidian altar, a pitch black hole and a narrow stone bridge.

The image of a cracked white skull on a field of black has been etched into the stone of the monolith.

Solhaven

[Shrine of Onar, Rotunda]
Pristine white marble slightly striated with black veins fills the round room and is crafted with masterful stonecutting Each block of the walls, floor, and ceiling has been so tightly placed that the effect is almost seamless. Narrow onyx half-columns serve as floor-to-ceiling beams, their grooved shafts rising from half-moon bases and ending in heavily gilded scalloped capitals. An altar waits at the far side of the domed expanse, opposite a small, square opening leading to some dark stone steps.

Cleric Guilds

Displayed in the Prayer Rooms of each Cleric Guild is a statue of Onar. These prayer rooms are considered a holy shrine to multiple deities.

The statue of Onar suggests only a pair of cold, calculating eyes in an amorphous shape.

You reach out and touch the statue of Onar.

A brief chill caresses your neck, like the kiss of cold steel, and then it is gone.

Wehnimer's Landing Cleric Guild

Located in the Antechamber of Others is a statue of Onar. This area is not considered a holy shrine.

The form of this figurine is difficult to discern. Concealed by an amorphous, billowing cloak, no face or body type is evident, though two red eyes can be seen in the recesses of the cloak's hood. Emerging from one wide sleeve, a skeletal hand holds a skull in its palm. The symbol on the base is a broken white skull on a field of black.

Behind The Scenes

Onar is the name of the southeastern region of Emer in Shadow World, which contains the Bay of Songs and the Shuluri city of Malqanar.
