Animalistic Spirit Shield iteminfo

User_talk:GS4ALASTIR: Hi, Alastir. Thank you very much for contributing so many different things to the various item script pages! Just as a head's up, I rolled back one of your changes made a while ago to the Animalistic Spirit Shield page, where you had accidentally removed the iteminfo section. I have added back in the iteminfo section so that it properly displays; it's actually an important template to keep in place for scripted items as it helps populate other categories on the wiki, making it easier to cross-reference related things. Thanks for understanding! HOST-GSKEBECHET (talk) 09:55, 21 June 2022 (CDT)

Category: Marked for Deletion

User talk:WINTERDAWN: Thank you for all of the contributions you've made toward archiving all of the Elanthian Journals! Just as a reminder, please use on a page when you would like it deleted. I went ahead and deleted the Journal pages you had cleared and replaced with the text, "Things to be deleted by Simu Admin." because your intent appeared to be very clear, however using the Category instead would make it easier for any mods to see those pages as part of weekly patrols for page deletion requests. HOST-GSKEBECHET (talk) 10:39, 7 July 2022 (CDT)

Shoot. I was doing {{category... sorry about that! Also, sorry about the extra set of deletes that I created. I hope it wasn't too time consuming :| WINTERDAWN (talk) 13:01, 7 July 2022 (CDT)
That's okay! It wasn't too time consuming. I just wanted to remind you about it for the future. Thank you again for all of your contributions!HOST-GSKEBECHET (talk) 09:37, 8 July 2022 (CDT)

Requesting Clarification

User_talk:FIREPHOENIX: Thank you for all of your contributions to preserving the-ever expanding game lore! I have a question regarding your recent edit to Ithzir_language_(essay). Do you have the original author's permission to upload "Part 5" to the essay? I did not see you noting that anywhere on the essay's talk page (Talk:Ithzir_language_(essay)). When uploading someone else's work to the wiki on their behalf, it is important to note that on an individual creative work's talk page so that we have a clear understanding that permission was given by them. HOST-GSKEBECHET (talk) 10:34, 14 July 2022 (CDT)

I can confirm with Dergoaten shortly since he's an active player, unsure how to post approval, but it's been confirmed and directed towards https://gswiki.play.net/Ithzir_Genesis for the most current details FIREPHOENIX (talk) 23:26, 15 July 2022 (CDT)
Dergoatean — Today at 11:16 PM
Hi, you absolutely have my permission
Thank you very much! HOST-GSKEBECHET (talk) 08:36, 20 July 2022 (CDT)

Moving Saved Posts

User_talk:FIREPHOENIX: I just wanted to give you a head's up that I am moving and consolidating some saved posts on the wiki that don't meet the current Style Guide standards for saved posts. Most of them are being moved to the "/saved posts" subpage of relevant questlines, and I am updating any broken links made as a result of these moves. I didn't want to worry you with the sudden rearranging of data and related page deletion since they include a few of the saved posts that you have archived with your ongoing efforts to preserve game history. HOST-GSKEBECHET (talk) 11:40, 21 July 2022 (CDT)

Wood Rarity Template Links

User talk:WINTERDAWN: Hi, WINTERDAWN. I just wanted to give you a head's up on why I reverted your changes to Template:Wood_Rarity_and_Use to remove the redlined links added. The additional links were all to existing real world trees that are not unique to Elanthia. While it is certainly fine for someone to eventually make pages for individual trees and add those links back in to the template, none of the trees with redlined links had anything unique to them in an Elanthian setting apart from their real world equivalents. Hopefully that helps clarify! HOST-GSKEBECHET (talk) 10:43, 26 July 2022 (CDT)

Merchant NPC Pages

User_talk:ECHEAUX: Hi, ECHEAUX. Thank you for your many contributions to the wiki! Getting a lot of the information related to the ongoing Ebon Gate festival out there while it is still running is a big help to other players. Just as a head's up, I have reverted some of the updates you made to various merchant NPC pages. These are largely restricted to where historical information was removed, such as festival venues or various towns where the merchants have worked. I wanted to drop you a note to explain why those changes were reverted so that you weren't surprised by them.

I also have a question regarding the recent updates that you made to Template:Merchants and related updates to various merchant NPC pages. Looking at the template, it seems like the "venue" section is now much more restricted than before, limited to only a very small list of festivals instead of being more free form as it was in the past. Is that intended or just an oversight? We have so many different festival venues that limiting which ones the template could be used for seems counterproductive, especially if it means that historical information is not preserved. It also looks like you have added a "town" as a new section, which can only have one entry. Is "town" intended to be the merchant's home town? Or is it intended to be the town they most often work in among the various towns they frequent? Thank you for any insight you can offer. HOST-GSKEBECHET (talk) 10:56, 26 October 2022 (CDT)

Works in Progress

User_talk:ECHEAUX: Hi there, ECHEAUX. I am slowly working through patrols of item script page updates, which I know you focused heavily on late last year. It looks like on several of them, mostly ones from October and November, you included the work-in-progress template to indicate you are still working on the pages, however many of them do not appear to have any recent updates in the past month+. While I don't believe these are all of them, they include AYRWT?, Flask belt, Ritualistic tool, and a few others that look like they were from last year's Ebon Gate festival. Are you still actively working on some of these pages? If not, I'll remove the WIP template as I do the patrols to let other users know they are open for editing again. Thanks again for everything you do to help add to the wiki! HOST-GSKEBECHET (talk) 08:29, 10 January 2023 (CST)

I have responded to your question on my discussion page.ECHEAUX (talk) 10:59, 10 January 2023 (CST)
I have responded to your response :) ECHEAUX (talk) 11:57, 10 January 2023 (CST)

Page Moves

User talk:ECHEAUX: Hi, ECHEAUX. I noticed that when you set up the item script page for the Grooming locket, you did so by moving one of your test/sandbox pages with a substantial edit history to the current page. In doing so, that also had the the effect of moving the entire page history for your test page, which included a large number of edits stemming from when you were testing out formatting for other item scripts unrelated to the Grooming locket. While the wiki team is very glad that you're using your test/sandbox pages to try out new things, the best practice in this instance would be to just cut and paste the source code from your test page into a newly created item page instead of moving it from your sandbox if there are unrelated edits in the test page's history. I know that you're very well versed in wiki use at this point, but if you'd like, I can help with that process for the Grooming locket page. HOST-GSKEBECHET (talk) 09:49, 7 February 2023 (CST)

Talk Pages vs Articles

User talk:WINTERDAWN: Hi, WINTERDAWN. I am reaching out to you because I am reverting back the edits on Northern Sentinel's Decree on the Imperial Protection of Wehnimer's Landing to include the full text of the letter instead of omitting portions of it. Could you help me understand why you removed portions of the letter? I understand that you also put the log of the letter being read aloud in game on the page's Talk page. However, the purpose of a Talk page is to provide notes about the main article, such as indicating permission to share something on behalf of another person, sharing incomplete research information, or asking a question/seeking clarification about the text of an article. Talk pages are not intended to be used as supplementary articles, nor should articles omit relevant information for the sake of sharing it on a Talk page. HOST-GSKEBECHET (talk) 09:42, 8 February 2023 (CST)

So there are two separate authors here: myself and WBURKE.
When I first came across the letter as relayed by Cordarius, in user LEAFIARA's log, I thought, "this is very useful information that should probably be more accessible than in the middle of a log." However, it was late, and I was not necessarily wanting to embark on a lengthy project at the time, and so I literally just copy/pasted it into a separate wiki page (the awkwardly named one I marked for deletion).
Soon after this, user WBURKE created a page to document the information relayed by that letter. The desire of my page was "here's the log so it's easier to find, maybe it'll be made nicer one day." The desire of their page was to focus on the specific points of interest in that letter. My focus was "here's the letter in full" while their focus was "here's the bullet points with regards to the Empire and Wehnimer's Landing." What they created is what I wanted the log to eventually turn into.
I still felt it useful to have the log around, though, and so dumped it on the discussion page as I don't know where else to put it.
As an aside, based on how this wiki is used, both in the past and currently, I feel that the discussion page is a fine spot for these types of things. On other wikis yes, you can have very lengthy conversations about the topics you listed, but that just doesn't really happen here on this one.
Based on those guidelines we would need to move this content: Talk:Sanctify (330) and Talk:Introduction to the Confluence#The Mentor Event Itself. I feel that these bits, that are relevant to their pages, would detract from the pages themselves if added. The Sanctify content would just muddy the page and the Confluence content has no relevance on the guide itself. The Sanctify content would be easy enough to break out into it's own guide I guess, and I guess the Confluence content could just be added to my user page or something. /shrug
Anyways, just my thoughts. At the end of the day you're the boss on this stuff so I acquiesce to what you feel is best :)
WINTERDAWN (talk) 16:58, 8 February 2023 (CST)
Hi, WINTERDAWN. I am not ignoring your query; I am waiting on a response from the larger wiki team about how to approach this specific scenario. Generally speaking, any article's Talk page is not an appropriate venue for archiving important information. If the information is completed research, elaboration on topics contained within an article, or relevant log excerpts, that information should be on a main wiki article, not on a Talk page. Depending on what that information consists of, it could either be on the primary article itself or on a different article that is explicitly created to delve into a more complex concept.
In the case of Talk:Sanctify (330), the information presented on it would be best in a main article and not on a Talk page; looking at the content, it does seem appropriate for a 330 guide article, as you pointed out (see Help:Style#User pages). In the case of Talk:Introduction to the Confluence, this appears to be a log excerpt and would be appropriate for a page that is set up as an event log - in the format of "YYYY-MM-DD - Log Title (log)" (as per Help:Style/Formatting special articles#Logs). However, as the main page itself appears to be set up as a guide, which appears to be drawn from the log itself (or vice versa), it should adhere to the standards of creating a guide. My general recommendation would be to preserve an entire log, including the introduction that is currently on the Talk page as well as any followup questions to the presentation, as a log article and then maintain the existing article as a guide with the information presented as is. That said, because the log excerpt that was retained on the Talk page does not appear to contain information vital to the article itself or further elaboration on the information presented in it, I also don't see an issue with keeping it as is for this specific case.
In the case of Northern Sentinel's Decree on the Imperial Protection of Wehnimer's Landing, which led to this conversation, given the nature of this specific article as well as the duplicate information between it and the article Protectorate, I am waiting on confirmation on how best to handle it before taking any further action. Unless another mod or GM weighs in before me, it will likely not be until next week that I can relay the final determination. I appreciate your patience and understanding with this. While the GS wiki does not get anywhere near as much traffic or use as Wikipedia, that does not mean that the GS wiki does not have its standards for how pages, including Talk pages, should be used. Those standards are also continually evolving as more content is added, and what may have been considered fine two years ago may have have updated standards today. HOST-GSKEBECHET (talk) 09:40, 9 February 2023 (CST)
Hello again, WINTERDAWN. After consulting with the wiki team, I have adjusted Northern Sentinel's Decree on the Imperial Protection of Wehnimer's Landing to show the previous version of the text instead of the log. I have transcluded the identically presented information from Protectorate onto Northern Sentinel's Decree on the Imperial Protection of Wehnimer's Landing. I have updated text on the page to link to the log excerpt on Protectorate instead of referencing the article's talk page. I have also updated the article's Talk page to remove the previously saved log excerpt, to clarify what its purpose is, and to direct anyone viewing it to Protectorate#5123, which is where the complete log excerpt is located. Again, to reiterate, the purpose of Talk pages is to facilitate discussion about an article, such as questions about an article, incomplete research, or citing when permission was granted to post on behalf of another person. They are not intended to serve as articles themselves. Logs and completed research should be either incorporated into the main article or in a supplementary article. Hopefully this helps clear up any confusion for you. Thank you again for your patience as I worked to resolve this. HOST-GSKEBECHET (talk) 09:13, 14 February 2023 (CST)
Alright, thank you for this information and checking into things :) I'll work on the two pages I mentioned (and any others I come across later) as soon as I can. WINTERDAWN (talk) 05:18, 15 February 2023 (CST)

Third Party Software

User talk:GS4ALASTIR: Hi, GS4ALASTIR. I have followed up with the wiki team on a few recent edits that you made related to third-party software documentation on the wiki. Specifically, I am referring to the subpages you created associated with both Script Bigshot documentation and the main Script Eloot article. The wiki policy for documenting Lich software is viewable on Help:Style#Lich_information. You will need to get staff approval before creating any new Lich script pages or subpages by contacting the GSWiki email address. (It is perfectly fine to continue to make edits to existing Lich script pages or subpages.) I will be taking the following steps:

Some of the information that you put onto the Script Bigshot subpages appears to be updated from how it was originally presented on the main article. I want to make sure that you have the opportunity to save or move that back on to the main approved script article before the subpages are permanently deleted. I also want to make sure that you have the same opportunity to save the information you wrote for the Script Eloot page. If you have any questions, please let me or another mod know, either via talk page or by asking on the official Discord server. Thanks for understanding. Character Vignettes

User talk:LORDROELET: Hi there, LORDROELET. I wanted to let you know why I moved your Plea to the Wsalamir vignette back to where you had originally placed it on the wiki. The storyline guidelines were recently updated to address how character vignettes should be posted to the wiki, largely because most character vignettes were shared in response to storylines. Moving forward, their articles should be set up in the format of:

Character name (instance)/Vignette name

In addition, they should not use the creative-work template as character vignettes are considered a form of "off screen roleplay" instead of a creative work like a poem or short story being told by a character. Thank you for sharing your character's vignettes on the wiki. If you have any questions, the best place to ask is on the Official GS Wiki discussion thread in the Discord forum's Help section. Third Party Software and Scripts

User talk:RINUALDO: Hi there, RINUALDO. I have followed up with the wiki team on some new articles you made associated with Lich script documentation. Specifically, I am referring to Script foreach and Script invdb, which were made last week, plus Script Ebounty, which was made late last year. The wiki policy for documenting Lich software is viewable on Help:Style#Lich_information. I have confirmed with the wiki team that permission was not given in advance of these articles being created. You will need to get staff approval before creating any new Lich script articles or subarticles by contacting the GSWiki email address. (It is perfectly fine to continue to make edits to existing Lich script articles or subarticles.) I am taking the following steps:

I understand that you are active in helping maintain the existing approved third party software articles so that they are accurate and easy to understand for the community. I want to make sure that you have the opportunity to save the information you wrote for the above three articles should they be approved for creation again at a later date. If you have any questions, please let me or another mod know, either via talk page or by asking on the official Discord server. Thank you for understanding. HOST-GSKEBECHET (talk) 10:03, 18 April 2023 (CDT)

Putting stuff on talk pages with no way for a user to know that something exists unless they go to the wiki daily is a terrible, terrible way to communicate about deleting something with a timer.
Can you please clarify "I have confirmed with the wiki team that permission was not given in advance of these articles being created" who you clarified this with?
Hello again, RINUALDO. I am following up on your question from yesterday about the three articles you created for lich scripts. I did alert the wiki team of your message to me when you added it, and I am aware that staff were able to talk with you on Discord afterward and confirm that you did indeed have prior authorization for the invdb and foreach script articles.
I would like to apologize on behalf of the wiki team for incorrectly flagging the Script foreach and Script invdb articles as not authorized. I am reverting my edits to both of those articles where I had added the delete template, and I am also putting a note on their respective Discussion tabs so that there is no confusion in the future. Unfortunately, the Script Ebounty article was not approved in advance of it being created, so I do need to delete it when the seven day window has concluded. Thank you for your patience and understanding. HOST-GSKEBECHET (talk) 09:37, 20 April 2023 (CDT)

The ebounty page was intended in the prior approval that was released. It was referenced in the email request, which I could have been more specific. As this has gone to Feedback, please do not delete anything until the issue is resolved.

Hi, RINUALDO. I have relayed your message to me on my talk page to the wiki team . Also, just as an FYI if it is helpful, if you want to add on your user name and a timestamp of an edit to the end of the message, it is possible to do so with ~~~~. HOST-GSKEBECHET (talk) 08:46, 25 April 2023 (CDT)
Hi again, RINUALDO. I wanted to update you on the three articles I previously reached out to you about. I have removed the delete template and renamed the article for Lich:Script Ebounty to conform with the updated guidelines for Lich scripts on the wiki. I have also moved both Lich:Script invdb and Lich:Script foreach for the same reason. All three articles will need the forthcoming lich header template added to them once the template has been finalized. Thank you for your patience and understanding as the wiki guidelines continue to evolve. I appreciate your continued efforts to add documentation to the wiki to help other players better enjoy the game. HOST-GSKEBECHET (talk) 10:23, 23 May 2023 (CDT)

Thaumaturge Tome Script

User talk:ALLENM20: Hello, ALLENM20. I am following up with you on behalf of the wiki team. I know that MOD-GSMOTTE already reached out to you about the Lich:Thaumaturge Tome Script article that you previously wrote. In light of the updates to the wiki standards for lich script pages, the script article is now permitted on the wiki. I have moved the article so that its title properly conforms with these new standards (which adds Lich: at the start of the article title). The article will need to be updated with the forthcoming lich script template as soon as it is released. Thank you for your patience and understanding. HOST-GSKEBECHET (talk) 08:18, 30 May 2023 (CDT)

Character Vignettes

User talk:HALEM20: Hi again, HALEM20. Thank you for doing so many updates to help record events in the recent and ongoing Platinum storylines. I noticed that you recently added two character vignettes related to the What Lurks in the Dark storyline that do not appear to be linked to your account based on prior edits to their respective character pages. If you are uploading vignettes on behalf of another player, you will need to very clearly state that on the Discussion tab for each page. The two vignettes are Jaired (platinum)/Loose Ends and Oliviero (platinum)/Interruption. To add that information, you will just need to click on the Discussion tab at the top of each article and note that you have permission to upload them. I recommend adding ~~~~ to the end of it to make sure that you have a clear account/date/timestamp applied afterward. Thank you for understanding! HOST-GSKEBECHET (talk) 09:17, 19 June 2023 (CDT)

Hello, HALEM20. I previously reached out to you about two character vignettes related to the What Lurks in the Dark storyline that you added to the wiki for characters that did not appear to be yours, based on prior edits to their respective character pages. I see that Oliviero's player did confirm that permission was given to upload Oliviero (platinum)/Interruption to the wiki, however there is still no indication that Jaired's player gave permission to upload Jaired (platinum)/Loose Ends. GSwiki has recently updated its copyright policy with regard to posting works created by another person. I have flagged the "Interruption" vignette for not being in compliance with the updated Gswiki:Policy for Copyrights on works created by someone other than the uploader. A statement that the vignette was uploaded with permission by the author must be added to the vignette's Discussion tab. If that is not added within 7 days, it will be deleted from the wiki. If you have any questions about this process or need more information about the updated policy for copyrights on articles, please reach out to the wiki team on the Gemstone forum's wiki thread. Thank you for your understanding. HOST-GSKEBECHET (talk) 08:34, 13 July 2023 (CDT)

Blanked Article

User talk:PAELA: Hi there, PAELA. I noticed that you created two articles for your vignette, "Disturbing News", and then went back and deleted all of the text on the duplicate article. The one that still has text is Agathilea (prime)/Disturbing News while the one that has had all text removed is Agathilea (prime)/Disturbing News/Disturbing News. Did you remove all the text because you wanted the second article to be deleted? Putting delete on an article is the best way to let a wiki Mod know that the page was created in error and should be deleted from the wiki instead of just removing all of the text on it. If that is what you would like to be done, please add the delete template to the article so another mod or I can remove it for you. HOST-GSKEBECHET (talk) 09:14, 9 August 2023 (CDT)

Recent Edits

User talk:LUXELLE: Hi there, LUXELLE. I'd like to thank you for your many contributions to the wiki, especially for your guides to help other players better enjoy the various festivals and events in game. I know that you frequently collaborate with other players to write some of your guides. Another user recently made some edits to one of your guides, Duskruin primer, that I was not sure were intended by you or your team. They do not appear to be malicious in nature, however I did want to reach out to you about if they were intended to be part of the article. The edits are a new section at the end of the article, All the big credit givings. If these edits were not intended by you or your team, either you can delete them or you can let me know and another mod or I would be happy to delete them for you. Images and Article Edits at Risk for Deletion

User talk:CELLORA: Hi there, CELLORA. In reviewing some recent updates to the wiki, I saw that you have made quite a few edits to Sorlu (prime), which appears to be a character page for someone else's character. There is no indication anywhere that Sorlu's player gave you permission to create or edit a character page on their behalf. Gswiki:Policy prohibits users from editing character pages unless the character is theirs or they have been given permission by that character's player to make those edits. If you do have permission to edit Sorlu's character page, you will need to indicate this by clearly stating it on its Discussion/Talk tab, Talk:Sorlu (prime), that you have been given permission to do so by his player. Alternatively, Sorlu's player can put that information on the discussion page. When adding that information, please make sure to add ~~~~ at the end of your comments, which will automatically add a "signature" with your user name, plus the date and time of when your edit was made.

In addition, there are a couple of images that I have flagged, all of which appear related to the same character article. I think I understand what is going on with the images but would appreciate some clarification from you if my understanding is correct.

Can you confirm who created the image? It appears that Sorlu's player created it, you erroneously placed your name on "Nalfein Crest" then removed it, then reuploaded the image crediting Sorlu. Is that accurate? If so, I will delete the first duplicate file as it is not used anywhere.

Can you confirm who created the image? It appears that this is a similar situation as the above two images, where you first listed yourself as the creator then re-uploaded the image listing Sorlu as the creator. If that is the case, I will delete the first duplicate file as it is not used anywhere.

In all cases, If that information is not added within 7 days, your edits to the character page and the impacted images will be deleted from the wiki. Thank you very much for clearly taking steps to fully credit images, not just who created them but also if permission was granted to upload them. That is a big help for moderators like me as we review edits to the wiki. If you have any questions about this process or need more information about the updated policy for editing character pages, please reach out to the wiki team on the Gemstone forum's wiki thread. Thank you for understanding. HOST-GSKEBECHET (talk) 11:02, 29 August 2023 (CDT)

Hello! Yes, I made a mistake on the images and couldn't figure out how to fix it without uploading new ones. If you could please delete the first ones, that would be great! He created them. I'm still figuring out the flagging and all of that for the wiki. I will add a note on the page that he gave me permission to create the page as well. CELLORA (talk) 12:59, 29 August 2023 (CDT)

Article/Edits at Risk for Deletion

Images and Article Edits at Risk for Deletion

User talk:CHADDEAUX: Hello, CHADDEAUX. I am reaching out to you about two things.

First, a few years ago you created and edited a character page article, Dirvy (prime), which has since then been edited by another user. There is no indication anywhere that Dirvy's player gave you permission to create or edit a character page on their behalf. Gswiki:Policy prohibits users from creating or editing character pages unless the character is theirs or they have been given permission by that character's player to make those edits. If you do have permission to edit Dirvy's character page, you will need to indicate this by clearly stating it on its Discussion/Talk tab, Talk:Dirvy (prime), that you have been given permission to do so by her player. Alternatively, Dirvy's player can put that information on the discussion page. When adding that information, please make sure to add ~~~~ at the end of your comments, which will automatically add a "signature" with your user name, plus the date and time of when your edit was made.

Second, you previously uploaded three images to the wiki which are missing some required information. GSwiki now has a new policy for all images uploaded to it. Please see Gswiki:Policy#Copyrights for more information about that policy and the requirement to note image creators, what AI imaging software was used (if any), and if permission was granted by the creator to upload the image to the wiki.

 • File:Dirvy Britbane medium.jpg - Thank you for already stating that Stormyrain created this artwork. You will need to add whether Stormyrain also gave you permission to upload the image onto the wiki. This information will need to be noted both on the image file as well as all articles displaying it.
 • File:Dirvy by Flimbo.jpg - Thank you for already stating that Flimbo created this artwork. You will need to add whether Flimbo also gave you permission to upload the image onto the wiki. This information will need to be noted both on the image file as well as all articles displaying it.
 • File:Zailon.png - Thank you for already stating that Flimbo created this artwork. You will need to add whether Flimbo also gave you permission to upload the image onto the wiki. This information will need to be noted both on the image file as well as all articles displaying it.

In all cases for the character page and the three images, if the required information is not added within 7 days, the edits to the character page and the images will be deleted from the wiki. If you have any questions about this process or need more information about the updated policy for images, please reach out to the wiki team on the Gemstone forum's wiki thread. Thank you for understanding. HOST-GSKEBECHET (talk) 09:50, 17 October 2023 (CDT)

Images and Article Edits at Risk for Deletion

User talk:TWILSON: Hello, TWILSON. I am reaching out to you about two things.

First, you recently edited a character page article, Dirvy (prime), which was originally created and edited by another user.

Second, you recently uploaded an image to the wiki, File:Dirvy gencraft image.jpg, which is missing some required information. GSwiki now has a new policy for all images uploaded to it. Please see Gswiki:Policy#Copyrights for more information about that policy and the requirement to note image creators, what AI imaging software was used (if any), and if permission was granted by the creator to upload the image to the wiki. Images using AI software in their creation are also required to be included in Category:AI artwork Thank you for already noting that it was created using AI software. You will need to add who created the image and, if that person is not you, if you had permission to upload it to the wiki. This information will need to be noted both on the image file as well as any articles displaying it.

In all cases for the character page and the image, if the required information is not added within 7 days, the edits to the character page and the image will be deleted from the wiki. If you have any questions about this process or need more information about the updated policy for images, please reach out to the wiki team on the Gemstone forum's wiki thread. Thank you for understanding. HOST-GSKEBECHET (talk) 09:49, 17 October 2023 (CDT)

Blanked article

User talk:GS4ALASTIR: Hi there, GS4ALASTIR. I noticed that you created an article for Emberthorn Refuge with a lot of information on it then shortly afterward went back and removed all of the text. Are you trying to have the article deleted? If so, placing delete on an article flags it for mods to review for deletion. Thanks again for your many contributions! HOST-GSKEBECHET (talk) 11:25, 12 September 2023 (CDT)

Short Story Question

User talk:CHIVERSFREE1: Hello, CHIVERSFREE1. The wiki team is currently working on some updates for the style guide as it relates to various types of creative works, including short stories and vignettes. This includes better defining what different creative works are so that they are better reflected with the creative-works template, article titles, etc., to help out both contributors and other players accessing the wiki. I know that you have been working on several lengthy articles, such as The Reckoning (short story), which might span several categories of creative works. I was hoping that you could share some insight on how you have approached writing articles like it.

You have "The Reckoning" labeled as a short story with the creative-works template. It appears to be a series of glimpses into off-screen/out-of-game roleplay focusing on your character as opposed to a short story written or shared by your character or set within Elanthia in general. Would you feel that is accurate - that it is more a lengthy series of off-screen vignettes as opposed to a formal short story? It also appears that there are sometimes contributions by other authors, such as chapters where Rohese and Mirkk are having a conversation or actively doing things together. Is "The Reckoning" retelling events that have taken place in game in a prose format (as opposed to a log format)? In some ways, it seems like it might almost be a player-run storyline focusing on Rohese's personal growth and evolution.

Thank you in advance for any insight you can offer. HOST-GSKEBECHET (talk) 10:33, 3 October 2023 (CDT)

Duplicate Logs

User talk:TUMARA: Hi there, TUMARA. You recently added two logs that appear to be identical to the wiki. Can you please clarify which one you intended to keep? You can do this by editing the duplicate log that you want deleted and adding delete somewhere on that log article. That flags it for a mod to delete. The two logs are:

I will update the one you intended to keep with the correct log title once you have identified it. It will end up as titled "Evermore Hollow - 2023-10-23 - The Heads Rolled Battle (log)", per Gswiki:Style guide/Formatting special articles#Logs. If you do not note which article you prefer to keep within 7 days, then I will delete the newer article and keep the older one. HOST-GSKEBECHET (talk) 09:35, 31 October 2023 (CDT)

Uploaded Images and Captions

User talk:PTOLEMY: Hello, PTOLEMY. I have updated the image captions for all new images you added to your character page, Jaysehn (prime). GSwiki now has a new policy for all images uploaded to it. Please see Gswiki:Policy#AI-Generated Artwork for more information about that policy and how it pertains to any images created with AI imaging software. AI generated images cannot be noted as copyrighted, and the captions displaying AI generated images must reflect the same information as what you indicated in their file uploads. I have already updated the captions based on information you provided with the uploaded files, however please keep this in mind with any future use of them or other AI-generated images. In addition, I have also already added the required Category:AI artwork for all of your recently uploaded images. If you have any questions about this process or need more information about the updated policy for images, please reach out to the wiki team on the Gemstone forum's wiki thread. Thank you for your help with this process. HOST-GSKEBECHET (talk) 09:08, 7 November 2023 (CST)

Duplicate Article

User talk:PTOLEMY: Hello, PTOLEMY. You recently created two identical articles, Paid in Full and Jaysehn (prime)/Reflections/Paid in Full. I suspect that the second is the article you intended to create and the first was made in error, due to the second following the Style Guide's standards for personal vignettes. Can you please confirm which duplicate should be deleted? This can be done by editing the one you wish deleted and putting in the delete template anywhere on the article. If I do not hear any response from you in one week, I will mark Paid in Full with the delete template for mod review and deletion. HOST-GSKEBECHET (talk) 08:45, 13 December 2023 (CST)

Images and Article Edits at Risk for Deletion

User talk:PTOLEMY:Hi, PTOLEMY. I'm reaching out to you about a couple of things.

First, I'm contacting you about the recent images that you have uploaded to the wiki. The requirements for posting images to the wiki has changed this past year. Please see Gswiki:Policy#Copyrights for more information about that policy and the requirement to note image creators, what AI imaging software was used (if any), and if permission was granted by the creator to upload the image to the wiki. In addition, all images using AI generating software are required to include on the files themselves. I have edited all but two of the files that you have uploaded to include this, however in the future if this continues to be omitted, I will begin flagging those files for moderater review/deletion. This text should be added as part of the image file description when you upload it, or edited it into the image file description after uploading. The two files I have not edited to include this information are outlined in the next paragraph.

Second, you recently edited a character page, Hadya (prime), which has been maintained by another user. There is no indication anywhere that Hadya's player gave you permission to edit a character page on their behalf. Gswiki:Policy prohibits users from creating or editing character pages unless the character is theirs or they have been given permission by that character's player to make those edits. If you do have permission to edit Hadya's character page, you will need to indicate this by clearly stating it on its Discussion tab, Talk:Hadya (prime), that you have been given permission to do so by her player. Alternatively, Hadya's player can put that information on the discussion tab. When adding that information, please make sure to add ~~~~ at the end of your comments, which will automatically add a "signature" with your user name, plus the date and time of when your edit was made. I am flagging the edits you made to this article as well as the two images you uploaded for it as not following Gswiki:Policy requiring permission from the character's player. The two impacted images are File:Hadya AI Ptolemy.jpg and File:HadyaSummons AI Ptolemy.jpg. These two images are also missing the required .

If that information is not added within 7 days, these images and article edits will be deleted from the wiki. Please do not remove the moddelete template from the images and article displaying them. Another moderator or I will remove that template after your updates have been reviewed to ensure that they meet Gswiki:Policy requirements. If you have any questions about this process or need more information about the updated policy for images, please reach out to the wiki team on the Gemstone Discord forum's wiki thread. HOST-GSKEBECHET (talk) 09:25, 20 December 2023 (CST)

Duplicate Images

User talk:LYSTRA: Hi there, LYSTRA. You recently uploaded two images to the wiki that appear to be duplicates of one another except with slightly different resolutions. The two image files are File:Fyg-kitten.png (1024x1024 pixels) and File:Fyg-kitten1.png (500x500 pixels). Can you please let me know which of the two you had intended to keep on the wiki and which is the duplicate that should be deleted? I will remove the duplicate image. You can let me or another moderator know by adding delete to the image file that was uploaded in error, or you can respond here. If I do not hear back from you in one week, I will flag the image with the lower resolution for mod review and deletion. In addition, all images using AI software in their creation are required to be included in Category:AI artwork. To add that text to an image file, you will need to click on "Edit Source" on the image file itself and add . HOST-GSKEBECHET (talk) 10:01, 20 December 2023 (CST)

File_talk:Fyg-kitten1.png: This image appears to be a lower resolution duplicate of File:Fyg-kitten.png and is not used on any articles. It will be deleted in favor of the higher resolution image unless the uploader requests that this image be kept and the higher resolution image be deleted instead. Uploader originally contacted on 12/20/23 regarding the existence of a duplicate image and informed of this next step. HOST-GSKEBECHET (talk) 09:06, 27 December 2023 (CST)

Article Edits at Risk for Deletion

User talk:SWEETLITTLEAGONY: Hello, SWEETLITTLEAGONY. In reviewing some recent updates to the wiki, I saw that you have made changes to Lissaya (prime), which appears to be a character page for someone else's character as the article was originally created by a different account. There is no indication anywhere that Lissaya's player gave you permission to edit a character page on their behalf. Gswiki:Policy prohibits users from editing character pages unless the character is theirs or they have been given permission by that character's player to make those edits. If you do have permission to edit Lissaya's character page, you will need to indicate this by clearly stating it on its Discussion tab, Talk:Lissaya (prime), that you have been given permission to do so by her player. Alternatively, Lissaya's player can put that information on the discussion page. When adding that information, please make sure to add ~~~~ at the end of your comments, which will automatically add a "signature" with your user name, plus the date and time of when your edit was made. If that information is not added within 7 days, your edits to that article will be deleted from the wiki. If you have any questions about this process or need more information about the updated policy for editing character pages, please reach out to the wiki team on the Gemstone Discord forum's wiki thread. Thank you for understanding. HOST-GSKEBECHET (talk) 10:49, 20 December 2023 (CST)

Edits to Announcements

User talk:CHAPSICKLE2: Hi there, CHAPSICKLE2. Your recent edits to Announcement: Spell Disabler Review Live! were reverted as they violated Gswiki:Policy, which states "Articles may be created or edited freely with the exception of: Announcements, Official Documentation, and Official Vignettes - Created by GameMasters only, handled by GameMasters and Moderators only." This is not an official warning or anything as the edits do appear to have been made in good faith. I have moved a copy of your added comments to the Announcement's Discussion/Talk tab, which can be accessed at Talk:Announcement: Spell Disabler Review Live!. In the future, please use the Discussion/Talk tab when adding notes related to official staff announcements if there is not a primary non-announcement article for the update discussed. Thank you for understanding. HOST-GSKEBECHET (talk) 10:21, 16 January 2024 (CST)

Edits to Character Pages/Subpages

User talk:AFALLACE: Hi there, AFALLACE. I'm reaching out to you about recent edits you made to a couple of articles and sub-articles related to Jaired (platinum) and Jaired (platinum)/The Saga of Jaired Delone (short story). There are a couple different accounts that have edited the content of these articles for things other than minor moderation or formatting updates. Only a player or someone to whom they have given permission may update a character's page per Gswiki:Policy. I do see that you have made nearly all content changes to Jaired's character page since its creation, however they do include substantial edits to the vignette subarticle that was authored by a different account. Can you please clarify where permissions stand for editing these by Jaired's player? I realize this might be a case of having multiple accounts, however there is no way for me to verify this as a moderator. If I don't hear back from you in 7 days, I will flag some of these updates for moderator review. HOST-GSKEBECHET (talk) 10:15, 17 January 2024 (CST)

Modified Artwork

User talk:JSEVERNS: Hi there, JSEVERNS. Several years ago, you uploaded an image, File:Teras Isle Regional final.jpg. Recently, another user modified your image to create File:Teras Isle Discovery of Kragnek Dzu (Oro).png. The other user did note that your image was the original source, however there is no note that they have artist permission to make modifications for it. I also was not able to find any remarks on your original image file or its related captions that you have given any sort of blanket permission for modifications by others. Can you please clarify if permission was given? While your image does depict a map, it is considered artwork for the purposes of Gswiki:Policy#Copyrights and is protected under that section. If I don't hear back from you within 7 days, I will flag the new image for moderator review. You can respond either here or on my user talk page. HOST-GSKEBECHET (talk) 11:15, 17 January 2024 (CST)

User talk:JGENGLISH: Hi there, JGENGLISH. You recently uploaded an image, File:Teras Isle Discovery of Kragnek Dzu (Oro).png, which appears to be modified from an image originally created by another artist, File:Teras Isle Regional final.jpg. I do see that you included in the caption a note about the original image. Can you please clarify if the original artist gave you permission to modify their image? I don't see that remarked on anywhere in your upload notes/captions. While the image does depict a map, it is considered artwork for the purposes of Gswiki:Policy#Copyrights and is protected under that section. If I don't hear back from you within 7 days, I will flag the image for moderator review. You can respond either here or on my user talk page. HOST-GSKEBECHET (talk) 11:15, 17 January 2024 (CST)

talk: Hey there. Just putting my response here to this as well: "Hello HOST-GSKEBECHET! Thanks, sorry. Yes, Aloska (JSEVERNS) gave me permission to edit their original artwork. I will add this to the image description. Should I also add it to the caption? I can ask him to check his TALK page here if that would also help."

Articles Flagged for Deletion

User talk:321FLAPTIME: Hello, 321FLAPTIME. I am letting you know that I have flagged two recent redirect articles that you made for deletion, HiWi and Hiwi. After consulting with the wiki team, it was determined that these articles were created in bad faith, which is against Gswiki:Policy #3. The redirects will be deleted in 7 days. If you have any questions about this process or need more information about the GSwiki Policy, please reach out to the wiki team on the Gemstone Discord forum's wiki thread. If you wish to appeal this, you can follow the steps outlined in Gswiki:Policy#Appeals Process. HOST-GSKEBECHET (talk) 08:17, 14 February 2024 (CST)

Editing Announcements

User talk:GS4XANLIN: Hi there, GS4XANLIN. Just to give you a head's up, I've reverted a couple of recent changes you had made to Announcement articles. The Gswiki:Policy states that only GameMasters and Moderators can make edits to Announcements. I fully recognize that the edits you made were to fix typos or formatting errors, however in the future, please utilize an Announcement's talk page to let a Moderator or the wiki team know if there is an error that needs to be corrected. Thank you for pointing out the errors; I am addressing the ones you had attempted to fix as I resolve other items on recent Announcements. HOST-GSKEBECHET (talk) 09:41, 14 February 2024 (CST)

Hi there, HOST_GSKEBECHET. Re: reverting typo fixes on announcement because I'm not allowed to fix them because announcement pages are special per policy: maybe you could make a policy where GMs spellcheck their announcements before posting, since wiki policy is so serious. LOL. Do what you gotta do, bro. GS4XANLIN (talk)

Articles at Risk for Deletion

User talk:HALEM20: Hi, HAELM20. In reviewing recent edits to the wiki, you appear to have created two vignettes for characters that do not belong to you. Gswiki:Policy prohibits edits to other players' Character Pages, which includes subpages, without their documented permission. In addition, its Copyrights section, prohibits submitting content that was created by others. All articles written on behalf of another player must include a statement that permission is granted by that character's player to edit or create an article on their behalf. This should be on each article's talk/discussion page. To add that text to the article's talk page, you or the character's owner will need to click on the "Discussion" link at the top of th page and then enter the text, followed by a digital signature of ~~~~, in the text editing box. Both of these articles are now marked for deletion:

If that information is not added within 7 days, these articles will be deleted from the wiki. Please do not remove the moddelete template from the articles. Another moderator or I will remove that template after your updates have been reviewed to ensure that they meet Gswiki:Policy requirements. If you have any questions about this process or need more information about the updated policy for character pages and works authored by other people, please reach out to the wiki team on the Gemstone Discord forum's wiki thread. Creative Works

User talk:DUNGEONCRAWLERS: Hi there, DUNGEONCRAWLERS. In an effort to ensure stylistic consistency across the wiki, the Creative Works Style Guide was recently updated to better clarify and expand on the different types of creative works. Several of your recent updates include creative works that now fall under a new category. The articles had been set up in the creative-work template as a short story, however they appear to be vignettes. I wanted to reach out to you about the following vignettes:

Unless there is something I am overlooking about how they are not vignettes, the creative-work template on each of them will need to be updated to change their type from short story to vignette. If you do not do so within 7 days, another moderator or I will make that change on your behalf. If you have any questions about the updated style guide or the different type of creative work options it encompasses, please reach out to the wiki team on the Gemstone Discord forum's wiki thread. Article/Edits at Risk for Deletion

User talk:SOURCE: Hi there, SOURCE. In reviewing recent updates to the wiki, I saw that you are among two different users who have made edits to Drektor (prime), which was previously created by a third user. There is no indication that Drektor's player has given permission to another player to create or edit his character page. Gswiki:Policy #4 prohibits users from creating or editing character pages unless the character is theirs or they have been given permission by that character's player to make those edits. If permission is granted by the character's player, it must be clearly stated on the character's talk page. To add that text to the article's talk page, you or the character's owner will need to click on the "Discussion" link at the top of the page and then enter the text, followed by a digital signature of ~~~~, in the text editing box. Periodical Creative Works

User talk:CHIVERSFREE1: Hi there, CHIVERSFREE1. In an effort to ensure stylistic consistency across the wiki, the Creative Works Style Guide was recently updated to better clarify and expand on the different types of creative works. Several of your recent updates include creative works that now fall under one of the newer categories. I know that you are involved in helping write several publications, which would now be classified as periodicals under the updated style guide. Previously there was not a standard for their inclusion in the creative-work template, but that has now changed, and some of your past contributions to the wiki helped fine tune the end result of the style guide.

I wanted to reach out to you about both the Peacock Gazette and Elanthian Vogue. The updated style guide recommends the following format for the article titles of individual issues:

Periodical series name/Individual periodical issue

Right now, both the Peacock Gazette and Elanthian Vogue have their individual issues' article titles slightly off from that format. I recognize that there are a LOT of back issues of Elanthian Vogue and already several of the Peacock Gazette. Unless you prefer to edit them yourself, I can offer to move each of the individual issues to be subarticles of the primary Elanthian Vogue and Peacock Gazette articles. Elanthian Vogue: Spring 5121 would become Elanthian Vogue/Spring 5121, as one example. For the Peacock Gazette, as its landing page is "Peacock Gazette", the individual issues would be updated from The Peacock Gazette/Peacock Gazette: Issue 1 to Peacock Gazette/Peacock Gazette: Issue 1; this would have the added benefit of being able to click on "Peacock Gazette" at the top of the individual issue and return to the publication's landing page.

In addition, it looks like GM Xeraphina has already added the creative-work template to most or all of the individual issues of Elanthian Vogue, properly noting that they are periodicals as well as their upload date. This ensures their proper inclusion on the list of creative works, among other back end things. I can go ahead and add that for the Peacock Gazette, however future editions should also include it. The Form:Creative work is a handy way of applying that template to a new article or adding it to an existing article.

If I do not hear back from you or if you do not make those edits within 7 days, another moderator or I will make those changes on your behalf. If you have any questions about the updated style guide or the different type of creative work options it encompasses, please reach out to the wiki team on the Gemstone Discord forum's wiki thread. Thanks for understanding. HOST-GSKEBECHET (talk) 10:21, 27 March 2024 (CDT)

Blanked Article at Risk for Deletion

User talk:WARMACE: Hi there, WARMACE. I see that you recently blanked the character page, Lunaryna (prime). The wiki is not intended to maintain articles that are devoid of content. Did you intend for this character page to be deleted? If so, please make sure to let me or another moderator know this by adding delete on any article that should be removed. Thank you. HOST-GSKEBECHET (talk) 09:39, 9 April 2024 (CDT)

Hello again, WARMACE. I have flagged your character page for Lunaryna (prime) for moderator review and deletion as it does not contain any content. If no content is added to the article within 7 days, it will be deleted. In the future and to avoid any confusion, instead of just deleting all text from an article ("blanking" it), please use delete on the article to alert a moderator that it should be deleted with any additional information added to the article's talk page. Thank you. HOST-GSKEBECHET (talk) 09:55, 25 April 2024 (CDT)

Periodical Creative Works

User talk:IRONMANRS: Hi there, IRONMANRS. In an effort to ensure stylistic consistency across the wiki, the Creative Works Style Guide was recently updated to better clarify and expand on the different types of creative works. Several of your recent updates include creative works that now fall under one of the newer categories. I know that you are involved in helping write a publication on behalf of TownCrier which would now be classified as periodicals under the updated style guide. Previously there was not a standard for their inclusion in the creative-work template, but that has now changed.

I wanted to reach out to you about Faction Attraction. The updated style guide recommends the following format for the article titles of individual issues:

Periodical series name/Individual periodical issue

Faction Attraction is already properly set up with this standard. The additional "nesting" under the larger TownCrier article is unnecessary but is also perfectly fine, so nothing needs to change with regard to the periodical or individual issue titles.

One thing that the articles are missing, however, is the creative-works template. I have added it in to the previously written issues (except for TownCrier/Faction Attraction/The Legions of B.A.C.O.N., as it appears to still be very much in progress), based on the article page creation dates. If you want any part of it to display differently, such as author name, you will need to go in and edit those articles further yourself. I left the author name field blank as there appear to be multiple editors on the individual articles, although you are the primary editor. In the future, you can add this on at the beginning of your individual articles using manually adding the template at the start of the article or via the associated form, which is linked just below that on the Style Guide article. Recent Edits to Character Page

User talk:LEAFIARA: Hello, LEAFAIRA. I wanted to reach out to you to an update to the Gswiki:Policy that was just made for item #4, associated with character pages. Previously, there were no circumstances where character pages (and their subpages) were allowed to be modified by anyone other than the character's player or someone to whom they had given permission. This had the unfortunate result of not allowing for circumstances where a player from our community has passed away. The policy update now makes allowances where this is permitted, but with specific parameters. Those parameters are now outlined in the Gswiki's style guide for character pages.

While all of your edits to Saraphenia's page were made fully in good faith, I am moving forward with the steps outlined in the updated policy for how a character page is handled when a player passes away. I am locking further edits to the character page. I am adding a new template to the top of the page, identifying that it is locked to further edits out of respect to the player who has passed away. The template includes a link to a new subpage, which has not yet been created, Saraphenia (prime)/Memorial, which may be freely created or edited by you or anyone else who wish to preserve memories of her player. In seven days, I will revert your recent edits to Saraphenia's character page to the last version by the original author. This is intended to preserve the character page in the original voice intended by her player. This should give you ample time to move any edits you would like to preserve to the Memorial page.

I realize that this is a difficult time for you and Saraphenia's friends. Please let me or the wiki team know if you have any questions or concerns about this policy update. This can be done via email to gs4-wiki@play.net or via Gemstone's Discord forum's wiki thread. HOST-GSKEBECHET (talk) 09:53, 8 May 2024 (CDT)

Character Page Title

User talk:DRUMPEL: Hello, DRUMPEL. You recently created a character page for Grobakten. This page does not meet the style guide standards for article titles. Character page names should feature the first name of the character only, followed by the respective instance in parentheses (ex: Cylnthia (prime)). Can you please clarify in which instance Grobakten exists? You can do so by moving the current character page to update its title with the instance name, or by responding either here or on my talk page and I will do so for you. Thank you. Image Captions

User talk:AVONDELL: Hello, AVONDELL. I have reverted one change that you recently made on the character page for Toxyrox (prime). You had commented out a portion of the caption for the image displayed in the characterprofile template, resulting in the caption not displaying. All images uploaded to Gswiki are required to include specific information about them per Gswiki:Policy#Copyrights. You had already provided that information on the image itself, however it must still be reflected on all articles that use it. I have already removed the markup that prevented the required text from being displayed, so you do not need to take any further action at this time. Please be aware that this information cannot be removed, although it can be reworded if you are concerned about the length of the caption. If rewording it, the updated text must satisfy all requirements as outlined in Gswiki:Policy#Copyrights. If you have questions about this policy requirement, please direct them to the Gemstone forum's wiki thread. HOST-GSKEBECHET (talk) 10:36, 2 July 2024 (CDT)

Blanked Articles at Risk for Deletion

User talk:FEREVER:Hello, FEREVER. I have flagged three articles you recently edited for moderator review and deletion as they do not contain any content. Those three articles are Faiyth (prime), Faiyth (prime)/Missing Items, and Kialeigh (prime). If no content is added to these articles within 7 days, they will be deleted. In the future and to avoid any confusion, instead of just deleting all text from an article ("blanking" it), please use delete on the article to alert a moderator that it should be deleted with the reason why added to the article's talk page. Thank you. HOST-GSKEBECHET (talk) 10:46, 3 July 2024 (CDT)

Article/Edits at Risk for Deletion

User talk:FALAN: Hi there, FALAN. In reviewing some of the recent updates, I saw that you and another user have made edits to Missandai (prime), which appears to be a character page for someone else's character. There is no indication on the article's Discussion/Talk tab that Missandai's player gave you permission to create or edit a character page on their behalf. Gswiki:Policy prohibits users from editing character pages unless the character is theirs or they have been given permission by that character's player to make those edits. If you do have permission to edit this character page, you will need to indicate this by clearly stating it on its Discussion/Talk tab, Talk:Missandai (prime), that you have been given permission to do so by the player. Simply noting that in the edit reason for an article is not enough for Gswiki:Policy. Alternatively, Missandai's player can put that information on the discussion page. If you are Missandai's player, then you will instead need to state whether or not you have given any other users permission to edit the character page on its Discussion/Talk tab. When adding that information, please make sure to add ~~~~ at the end of your comments, which will automatically add a "signature" with your user name, plus the date and time of when your edit was made. If that information is not added within 7 days, your edits to the character page will be deleted from the wiki. If you have any questions about this process or need more information about the updated policy for editing character pages, please reach out to the wiki team on the Gemstone Discord forum's wiki thread. Thank you for understanding. HOST-GSKEBECHET (talk) 11:15, 3 July 2024 (CDT)

Article/Edits at Risk for Deletion

User talk:SCHWIERH: Hi there, SCHWIERH. In reviewing some of the recent updates, I saw that you and another user have made edits to Missandai (prime), which was originally created and later edited by that other user. Is not clear who is the player behind Missandai. Recent Edits

User talk:PSAMMEAD: Hi there, PSAMMEAD. While reviewing recent edits to the wiki, I noticed that you created two pages with identical content, DeathGuide and Guide for the Recently Departed. Based on its edit history, the newest version appears to be Guide for the Recently Departed, although both guides are linked from different articles that were created or edited by you. Unless I hear from you otherwise, I will delete the older article, DeathGuide, so that the most recent article, Guide for the Recently Departed, is the version that remains on the wiki.

In addition, I noticed that you created Template:Author but have not used it. This appears to be a template that lists two guides that you authored and is not intended for everyone to use. Templates should only be created if the intent is for multiple pages and multiple users to use them. Can you clarify what you intend to do with this template or if it was created in error? If it was created in error, you can either let me know by responding or by editing the template and placing delete on it to let another moderator or I know that you are requesting it be deleted from the wiki.

As you appear to be new to editing the Gswiki, I recommend taking a look at the Gswiki:Style guide if you haven't already. It, and its various linked in-depth style guides, all have excellent advice on editing the Gswiki specifically as well as wiki editing in general. As one example, Guide for the Recently Departed appears to have a lot of broken links to pages that actually exist but are just set up incorrectly on the document; you attempt to link to SYMBOL OF PRESERVATION, however the article is actually Symbol of Preservation. In addition, the style guide recommends that any commands utilize the format of VERB for game commands when they are written out as part of a standard article. This standardizes how verbs or commands appear so it is much easier for users to understand that the text is a command as opposed to an abbreviation or simply a stylistic decision to use all capital letters for emphasis. This turns POUR into POUR when advising that someone can POUR a white flask INTO a corpse.

Lastly, I saw that you have sections of varying length about Lich scripts in the four guides you recently authored. These four articles are Experience Guide, Guide for the Recently Departed, Introduction to Spirit Beasts, and Tatterclaws' Guide for New and Returning Players. Gswiki:Policy has a section specific to Lich-related articles, which can be viewed at Gswiki:Policy#Lich script pages. While Lich-related articles are permitted on the wiki, they must follow specific steps to remain on the wiki as Lich is a third-party software that is not maintained by Simutronics. All Lich-related articles must start with Lich: as their title and must include at the top. Some of your guides appear to be more Lich-focused than others. Unless the Lich-focused portions of the articles are modified, I will treat them each as Lich-related articles, which will include moving them to an appropriate page title and adding the template.

I will review all articles referenced above in 7 days and take the steps I outlined at that time. If you have any questions about wiki editing or the style guide, the best place to get answers is on the Gemstone Discord forum's wiki thread. The wiki team and a number of experienced wiki editors are all willing to offer advice. HOST-GSKEBECHET (talk) 11:11, 9 July 2024 (CDT)

Article/Edits at Risk for Deletion

User talk:MORNE: Hi there, MORNE. In reviewing some of the recent updates, I saw that you have made edits to Tatterclaws (prime), which appears to be a character page for someone else's character. There is no indication on the article's Discussion/Talk tab that Tatterclaw's player gave you permission to create or edit a character page on their behalf. Gswiki:Policy prohibits users from editing character pages unless the character is theirs or they have been given permission by that character's player to make those edits. If you do have permission to edit this character page, you will need to indicate this by clearly stating it on its Discussion/Talk tab, Talk:Tatterclaws (prime), that you have been given permission to do so by the player. Simply noting that in the edit reason for an article is not enough for Gswiki:Policy. Alternatively, Tatterclaw's player can put that information on the discussion page. When adding that information, please make sure to add ~~~~ at the end of your comments, which will automatically add a "signature" with your user name, plus the date and time of when your edit was made. If that information is not added within 7 days, your edits to the character page will be deleted from the wiki. Hello again, MORNE. Thank you for adding the note to Talk:Tatterclaws (prime) that both accounts are associated with the character. So that you are aware, the mod-delete template that I had placed on the article should not have been removed by anyone other than a moderator, whether that person another moderator or me, as that slows down the review process. While I recognize that the manual reversion you did to the article to remove the template was likely done in good faith, please do not do so again in the future as it is considered a violation of Gswiki:Policy. I apologize that the note I placed on Talk:Tatterclaws (prime) to not remove it was not included in my message to you here. HOST-GSKEBECHET (talk) 09:56, 21 August 2024 (CDT)

Recent Logs

User talk:LEAFIARA: Hi again, LEAFIARA. I noticed that you recently added or edited a couple logs that either have (had) been included in the North by Northwest category, or have (had) "North by Northwest" included in their article name. It looks like some of them may not have been intended to be part of the North by Northwest category from their edit history. Can you clarify if they are intended to be part of this specific storyline category, if they are supposed to be part of a different storyline category, or if they are just "general" Wehnimer's Landing-related event logs that might not be specific to an ongoing storyline? The two logs I could find related to this are the following:

It is possible there may be more beyond these two. It looks like I had previously moved one of them to have an updated log article title based on its original inclusion in the NxNW storyline category. I suspect that these logs may need to be incorporated into the little-used category, Tales of Wehnimer's Landing, which was established as a sort of catch-all for Landing-area RP events centered around GM-led interactions (whether or not there is a GM presence) that don't fall under a named storyline. Updating the various town storylines to the current standards is one of my longer term projects, and I have not yet gotten to those related to the Landing. Much of what is on the Landing Events (KST) article is intended to be migrated to either the appropriate storyline or Tales of Wehnimer's Landing catch-all category once it has been brought in line with those standards. Any insight you can offer would be appreciated. If they do need to be moved/recategorized, you are welcome to take those steps or you can let me know and I can certainly do so on your behalf. Thanks again for all of your work on the wiki. HOST-GSKEBECHET (talk) 10:40, 11 September 2024 (CDT)

Recent Edits

User talk:DUNGEONCRAWLERS: Hi again, DUNGEONCRAWLERS. I removed several of your recent edits to the creature article for silver-scaled cold wyrms and wanted to let you know why so that you are not confused. These changes largely consisted of either duplicate links or circular links.

By duplicate links, I mean multiple instances of links that are directed to the same article, such as linking to Hinterwilds each time the word "Hinterwilds" appears in an article. Gswiki:Style guide#Linking has some general information about why it is preferrable to not have multiple instances of the same link. I did leave them in for the section Historical Footnotes for character names due to the nature of it being a running list of kills. In addition to duplicate links, I removed all circular links.

For circular links, these are links created that would under normal circumstances redirect to the same page they are on - in this case, they were links on the silver-scaled cold wyrm page that were set up back to the same article (using silver-scaled cold wyrm to refer to the creature on its own article). Links of this nature should only be used in cases of transclusion so that the text, when it appears on another article, links back to the original article; this use of translcusion should also use the <includeonly> or <noinclude> markups accordingly so that the source article does not contain the circular link. I could find no tranclusion markups on the creature article to warrant use of circular links. Additional information about transclusion is at Help:Getting Started#Transclusion. And as an example, if you look at the source code for Prayer of Holding (301), you can see use of these markups to cause the introductory text to appear differently on this page versus how that same text appears on Scroll/list of eligible spells for the same spell.

I know that you heavily use both duplicate links and circular links on your character page for Myharl (prime), however I want to reassure you that it is perfectly fine there as the style guide standards beyond those outlined in Gswiki:Policy do not apply to character pages or user pages. Please let me know if you have any questions about any of these edits. HOST-GSKEBECHET (talk) 10:29, 19 September 2024 (CDT)

Long Logs

User talk:TUMARA: Hi there, TUMARA. I want to thank you for your repeat contributions to the wiki. I know that you are active in saving logs to the wiki related to various storylines, especially those tied to Icemule Trace. I noticed that some of your logs are increasingly long to the point where the wiki has difficulty handling them. It looks like you encountered issues with this with your most recent log (The Twilight Stratagem (storyline)/2024-09-25 - Mayor Talliver Rescued (log)), which appears to now be broken into three sections due to its length. I noticed that this issue also came up last year with a different log (The Watchfire Pact(storyline)/2023-09-27 - The Opening of Crystalhall (log)), which is too long for the wiki to properly load under normal circumstances. In the future, I recommend either breaking up your logs into parts or cutting out unnecessary parts from the logs, such as extended combat, irrelevant actions, etc. I realize the time and effort it takes to edit and archive logs, and I would hate for that effort to go to waste simply because they are too long for anyone to read them on the wiki. If you have any questions about best practices for editing logs for the wiki, the best place to ask is on the Gemstone Discord forum's wiki thread, where wiki staff and knowledgeable players can best advise you on any changes that may be helpful. Edit Reversions

User talk:GS4ALASTIR: Hello, GS4ALASTIR. I'm letting you know why I undid two recent edits that you made to Mana-Infused Armor. Your two edits consisted of moving a table that you previously created on the article from the "Additional Information" section to a section above the tiers for the item script. Per Gswiki:Style guide/Item scripts, the tier benefit breakdown table is appropriate for the "Additional Information" section as it provides a side-by-side comparison of different tiers and their properties as opposed to a brief introduction about the item or information specific to a single tier. I realize that the various item script templates in their current state are very involved and can cause confusion due to their complexity. This is one of my roles as a moderator is to follow up on recent wiki edits to bring them in line with the style guide so that wiki contributors do not need to be overly concerned about general content edits. If you have any questions about the style guide for item scripts or in general, please do not hesitate to reach out to the wiki team or other knowledgeable players on the Gemstone Discord forum's wiki thread. HOST-GSKEBECHET (talk) 08:07, 2 October 2024 (CDT)

After consulting with the GM wiki team, I have reverted your last two edits to the Mana-Infused Armor article. Those two edits consisted of removing a significant amount of contributions made by other users. Please be aware that Gswiki:Policy addresses editing civily and respectfully. Removing the work of prior editors does not constitute a good faith edit, nor is it respectful.
While use of the itemtier templates themselves is optional for item script articles, the purpose of the templates is specifically to help set up the overall article. Gswiki:Style guide/Item scripts#Additional Information touches on this. Part of the reason for this is that some scripts have multiple layers of complexity, such as various interactive components with differing tiers, which result in the information associated with those items being too complex to function with the templates. However, overall page cohesion can still be maintained even when not using the itemtier templates. (You can see one article that does this with the Mini-Smelter.) The other part of the reason for this is that not all wiki contributors are comfortable using complex templates such as itemtier or itemtiermulti. While users should try to be familiar with the style guide, it isn't necessary for all users to be experts in all facets of it so long as they are able to get the information onto the wiki. One of the roles of moderators is to update user contributions to conform with the style guide, which includes adding in those optional templates for articles created (or edited) that are missing them.
You noted in your comment to me on my user talk page that you have been having difficulty navigating to the additional information portion of the Mana-Infused Armor article. After reverting your last two edits, I updated the header for the Tier Benefit Breakdown so that it is a level 2 header. This should allow you to easily navigate to the table via the article's table of contents by clicking on it directly while still presenting it in the appropriate portion of an item script article. If you have further questions about the style guide, the best place to ask them is on on the previously linked wiki thread. HOST-GSKEBECHET (talk) 09:17, 8 October 2024 (CDT)
