Revision as of 13:55, 6 June 2017

Please place new requests at the top of the list, so they are easily visible. Thanks!

This is the page to request something for or about the GemStone IV Wiki. Possible requests might be for particular articles or for someone to copyedit or wikify an article that doesn't look very good. If you work on a request, don't erase it, just respond to it, like follows:

Charge Item (example)

Could someone write an article on Charge Item? Ildran 02:18, 3 January 2006 (CST)

Here you go: Charge Item (517). Does that answer whatever questions you might have on it? Ildran 02:18, 3 January 2006 (CST)
Yep, thanks! Ildran 02:18, 3 January 2006 (CST)

That will make it so that people can see what's happened with their request a few days or weeks later, whenever they get around to checking on it. Please make sure to sign your request by putting four tildes after it like this: ~~~~.

Request List

Horizontal lists

Request to add the horizontal list style into MediaWiki:Common.css as described at: https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Snippets/Horizontal_lists ZHOUY1 (talk) 14:55, 6 June 2017 (CDT)

Recent Vaalor storyline

Would anyone like to write up a synopsis of the recent "Ties That Bind" storyline while it's still fresh on people's minds? I looked over the official posts but some of the background about events from many years ago was hard to follow. ZHOUY1 (talk) 02:07, 22 February 2017 (CST)

Converting creature pages

Old creature pages still use the old creature templates and should be updated into the redesigned 2 series templates. These new templates are annotated with full instructions and should replace the corresponding older creature templates with the same name, and whatever information that is in the old templates should be transferred as appropriate into the new templates. See Help:Creatures for full instructions on new creature pages. See the list of pages for a list of pages to do. VANKRASN39 (talk) 15:02, 10 October 2016 (CDT)

Are growing pains still growing pains?

I'm sure we can agree that those pages have probably been updated a bit, and there may be another alternative task we can ask editors to work on. Just don't know if we need/want that on the front page, as it doesn't appear maintained. Would rather reference people here! HJELTE (talk) 13:31, 26 September 2016 (CDT)

I brought it up with Staff early on and was told to leave them the way they were and Staff would think on it but never came back with an answer. Now that moderators have been given considerably more power to update the front page, we can discuss changing it and get the code ready, although I'd still run it by Wyrom for approval. Do you have any proposals on what to change it to? Do we want to emphasize the Style Guide, which is still a work in progress, but slowly getting there? There's this page, the GSWiki Help page, and the Village Pump as well. Maybe focus on how to wiki vs. specific articles but link to stubs category? VANKRASN39 (talk) 17:43, 28 September 2016 (CDT)
Style guide is definitely helpful... I know I needed to dig for a lot of templates for some of the updates I've been making recently. A daunting task to any potential new editor! But even just a link to HERE where we're REALLY documenting growing pains in a more collaborative effort may be a good bet as well... Or maybe it's already linked on the front page... I dunno... HJELTE (talk) 08:06, 29 September 2016 (CDT)
I've updated the Growing Pains section with recently nominated articles. I plan to add another "How to" section once the pages it would point to are more up to date (including this one). VANKRASN39 (talk) 15:02, 10 October 2016 (CDT)

Character Pictures

Could someone create a repository page for holding character pictures?

It would be even better if this page were viewable as thumbnail type pictures. It would be even better if the character list automatically referenced their picture, and if the repository of pictures linked to the characters wiki-page.

CLUNK24963 18:22, 24 September 2016 (CDT)

"Automatically" doesn't really happen much around here. Creating bots is something that has been brought up with staff, I'm not sure if this would be a good application for one though. Someone could set labeled section transclusion (LST) tags around images on applicable character pages and pull them into a table that way so that they'll change automatically when the image on the page does, or someone could set up a simple table like the one on my user page of all thumbnails. However, linking to an article from an image cannot be used with thumbnails using an Image link, all sizes would have to be set manually. The image map tag is an alternative, but I've never worked with that before and that capability doesn't seem to be installed (I tested). Also, placing an LST section within a link does not work (I tried on a sandbox page). VANKRASN39 (talk) 12:21, 26 September 2016 (CDT)
A gallery page by itself wouldn't be hard to create (use the gallery tag as described on Wikipedia) but I feel that character pages should be solely authored by their players and getting permission from everyone to excerpt commissioned pictures might not be viable. We could do better in making the character pages easier to navigate and add to, though that's a separate request. ZHOUY1 (talk) 19:40, 7 February 2017 (CST)
More details on how this might be automated: if Properties functionality can be fixed then inline queries can be used to create a table for "player character pages with a displayable image". The functionality is enabled on the DR wiki so it ought to be possible to get it to work here. ZHOUY1 (talk) 16:10, 13 February 2017 (CST)

CMAN Roundtime

Currently there is no listed information on combat maneuver speeds. It would be useful for players to know that Feint always takes 3 seconds to execute, Charge takes 9 seconds plus/minus modifiers, and so on, especially since CMAN points are hard to migrate. ZHOUY1 (talk) 16:38, 15 January 2016 (CST)

I don't disagree, the info should prob be added to the Combat Maneuver template (info boxes). Messaging on all CMANs would be nice, too. I think editors tend to play magic users, so physical combat pages are definitely lacking in quality compared to spell pages. VANKRASN39 (talk) 16:46, 15 January 2016 (CST)
I main a warrior, and my buddy mains a rogue. I'll try to get to it some day, but it's nowhere near priority #1 for me. PFLATS (talk) 23:36, 30 January 2016 (CST)
Thanks for adding these. I created an editing category Category:Pages needing attention to keep track of the pages that have yet to be updated. ZHOUY1 (talk) 13:43, 2 February 2016 (CST)
There are 4 left that no one seems to know anything about. Propose putting roundtime=? and removing the category from the template. VANKRASN39 (talk) 12:53, 4 April 2016 (CDT)
Please leave them, it makes it easier on me to remember which ones still need to be done. I can take care of Mystic Strike and Spell Cleave in the coming month. No promises on the two rogue-only ones. I might be able to get my buddy to help, but I doubt it; he doesn't really have CM points to spare. Maybe I'll make a F2P rogue to try them out. PFLATS (talk) 07:21, 5 April 2016 (CDT)
Two down. Yay migration. Will get to rogue eventually. PFLATS (talk) 13:07, 13 April 2016 (CDT)

Spell Usage Sections

With the changes to INCANT, which are currently spelled out here, pretty much every single usage section on every single spell page needs to be updated, or the Usage section needs to be added, or we need to do something else, ideas welcome. VANKRASN39 (talk) 19:59, 21 September 2015 (CDT)

It is probably not necessary to have a usage section for every single spell, only those with special syntax. ZHOUY1 (talk) 13:33, 29 September 2015 (CDT)
I used to agree, but after thinking about it further and as more oddball spells have been released, I think that low level spells in all cast-able circles should all get a usage section as newer players get introduced to the minutiae of spell casting. VANKRASN39 (talk) 13:48, 29 September 2015 (CDT)
As casting has gotten more and more intricate as time has passed (we are now channeling evoked spells), I've gone ahead and started setting up templates for different options, and have gotten a positive response from the general population that they are helpful. They are in Category: Spell Templates and all begin with Usage. Most of them have instructions and copy/paste code. I'll finish that soon hopefully, along with the rest of the needed templates. I would love some help applying them to the various spells. VANKRASN39 (talk) 14:56, 20 January 2016 (CST)

Completed Requests

View counter

The page view counter seems to have been removed from the bottom of the pages with the recent update, any chance this can be added back in? It's interesting (and sometime surprising) to see what interests others about GS. OM1E5GA (talk) 14:01, 25 August 2016 (CDT)

I agree, it was extremely useful, and it's been brought up with Wyrom and onsite by both me and Doug since the upgrade. VANKRASN39 (talk) 14:15, 25 August 2016 (CDT)
My guides were usually towards the top 20... I loved seeing those metrics... But also helps us pinpoint our work efforts! HJELTE (talk) 08:07, 29 September 2016 (CDT)
Unfortunately the hit counters will not be returning. DOUG and I did what we could. I will move this to completed or some other "can't accommodate" space after some amount of time. VANKRASN39 (talk) 18:41, 9 October 2016 (CDT)

Ebon Gate 2015 shops quick project

This is a priority project up to Oct. 14. I was hoping to do this with a bot, but that will not be possible. In order to use EG shop pages from year to year, the 2015 listing must be converted to use labeled section transclusions (a new feature installed in 2016).

Two tags need to be placed on each page:

1. <section begin=2015 />
at the beginning of the page, this needs to be on its own line or the header won't transclude correctly
2. <section end=2015 />
at the end of the page

List of pages:

EGShop pages
Except for:
EGShop:The Affluent
EGShop:The Skeptic (these two shop pages were merged with inventory found elsewhere from 2011 and have already been done)

If you work on it at all, please go down the list in order so I can see where you left off. I will update the EG 2015 shop listing page when all shop pages have been done. Thanks! VANKRASN39 (talk) 15:02, 10 October 2016 (CDT)

Made it through the A-shops, will try to get a larger chunk tomorrow. HATESHI (talk) 21:19, 10 October 2016 (CDT)
Update completed through the F-shops. HATESHI (talk) 09:18, 11 October 2016 (CDT)
Done through O. VANKRASN39 (talk) 12:17, 11 October 2016 (CDT)
All shops completed, excluding The Affluent and The Skeptic. HATESHI (talk) 18:47, 11 October 2016 (CDT)

Math (TeX)

The editing bar has a link to insert math equations, but the <math> tag to parse TeX doesn't seem to actually be implemented. I'd gladly go through and TeX up the more mechanical articles if this were enabled. (see: http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Manual:Enable_TeX) PFLATS 18:57, 22 June 2010 (EDT)

If anyone has some articles with funky math that they want prettified, let me know and I'll get on it. Otherwise, I'll do them as I see them. PFLATS (talk) 11:56, 13 August 2015 (CDT)
Moved back to Request list from Completed, because it's definitely not completed. PFLATS (talk) 13:44, 6 March 2016 (CST)
Whoa! And on a day I'm actually writing TeX anyway. Yay? PFLATS (talk) 21:14, 15 August 2016 (CDT)

Featured Article On Front Page

Since we're in a new year, the Featured Article preview text should probably be updated to state that HSN was for last year (2015). As it currently reads, it could come across as saying that we'll be having yet another HSN this year (2016). CLTIDBALL (talk) 10:47, 4 April 2016 (CDT)

I agree, is there a particular article you'd like to see featured? Scribes and/or Wyrom need to approve it. VANKRASN39 (talk) 11:36, 4 April 2016 (CDT)
Nothing in specific for what I'd like to see, though perhaps featuring the CHE article could be good. CLTIDBALL (talk) 17:36, 4 April 2016 (CDT)
CHE and MHO front page article is up. I received permission to change it. I might change it for Duskruin next week (how does that sound?), but as CHEs and MHOs are eternal, we can always go back to them. VANKRASN39 (talk) 11:46, 12 April 2016 (CDT)
The CHE/MHO article looks good, and changing it to feature Duskruin while the grounds are open makes perfect sense to me. Thanks Allereli! CLTIDBALL (talk) 12:04, 12 April 2016 (CDT)

TOC limit

Request for anyone who has access to MediaWiki:Common.css to add the following:

.toclimit-2 .toclevel-1 ul,
.toclimit-3 .toclevel-2 ul,
.toclimit-4 .toclevel-3 ul,
.toclimit-5 .toclevel-4 ul,
.toclimit-6 .toclevel-5 ul,
.toclimit-7 .toclevel-6 ul {
    display: none;
}

I believe this should then allow editors to use a template to specify the depth of an article's table of contents. (See Wikipedia documentation at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Template:TOC_limit) ZHOUY1 (talk) 13:46, 25 February 2016 (CST)

  • This should be all set now, but please let me know if you experience otherwise! GS4-IXIX (talk) 07:52, 5 March 2016 (CST)

Padding/Weighting Tables

Last week Wyrom stated on the officials that the padding/weighting tables were wrong for amounts greater than very heavily. I have updated the three pages where the charts appear (critical weighting, damage weighting and padding) with Wyrom's statement to warn readers, but the work to make the charts correct will have to fall to someone else. VANKRASN39 15:42, 22 July 2014 (EDT)

UDF in the Creature Template

Would be nice to have this info, which I can start to populate. VERSIN (talk) 11:17, 5 February 2016 (CST)

It can already be added in the creature ability section. From giant rat: UAC . Is that what you're looking for? VANKRASN39 (talk) 11:52, 5 February 2016 (CST)
Yes thanks! VERSIN (talk) 13:26, 5 February 2016 (CST)

Cone Of Elements-Vacuum (Air Lore) DF

Has anyone been working on calculating the DF for this new attack? I've been curious on it's effectiveness. Thyson

From the CoE page: "A unique vacuum based bolt is used for air. This bolt uses the same damage table (damage factors and AvDs) as Hurl Boulder (510)." I added this into the chart on the page: "See Hurl Boulder (510) for DF and AvD info." Does this satisfy your request? VANKRASN39 (talk) 11:45, 27 October 2015 (CDT)

New Weapon Alternate Names Redirects

Each of the new alternate weapons names needs a new redirect page going to the respective base weapon page (for example, balta redirects to handaxe). The list of weapons is beneath the armor chart, which I already added. Alternate names of weapons have already been added to each weapon page, so that part is done, just the redirects are needed. These redirects are especially helpful at festivals when GMs like to release items with obscure nouns. VANKRASN39 (talk) 18:03, 14 September 2015 (CDT)

Upload Official Images

Simu's official images for the professions [1] and races [2] would make good additions, but they have not yet been uploaded here. I am not sure on the current policy for which parts of the official site are fine to copy over and who has permission. ZHOUY1 (talk) 12:57, 26 June 2015 (CDT)

I gave Scribes a heads up about your request since I was in the middle of emailing him anyway. VANKRASN39 (talk) 13:17, 26 June 2015 (CDT)
Playing the Summon Scribes card always works! I don't see a problem with uploading any of the images from play.net onto the site, though obviously, if they belong on a protected page, you would need to contact me or another admin to edit the article accordingly. In terms of pages, since I've kind of been the leading GM on this, I think it's fine if you want to republish the play.net pages onto the wiki that I have not had a chance to do. Then just let me know when you're done and I'll look over them to double check everything is kosher and slap 'em with the Protected status. I do think there may be multiple opportunities to collapse multiple pages into one page, etc, but I'd like to see all of the play.net pages recreated before we start reorganizing things and what not.
So feel free to upload the play.net images (try to keep the image names, that way we should hopefully prevent anyone else coming along and uploading them and not realizing it's a duplication). Feel free to republish a play.net page on the wiki and send it to me for approval and protection. Make sense?GS4-SCRIBES (talk) 13:23, 26 June 2015 (CDT)
So in other words, the images should not be added to the current profession pages and should be saved for the Profession (official) pages? Assuming that is how those pages will be labeled. I would hate to see the current articles lose their places as the play.net pages are lacking in the detail that people want when they come to the wiki. VANKRASN39 (talk) 13:30, 26 June 2015 (CDT)
No, the images definitely can be used for any appropriate pages. In terms of information provided for wiki users, I think it's probably important, if not efficient, to maintain what Simu officially has stated about professions, versus what players have provided. It's not that the player content is erroneous, but it's more important to have the ability to have that official page as a location for the official stuffs without making players try and parse things. The merging of the wiki with the documentation from website pages is still a new process and we can always worry about consolidation in the future. So long as we're not uploading multiple versions of the same image, it doesn't really matter if the images are reused on different pages.GS4-SCRIBES (talk) 14:09, 26 June 2015 (CDT)

Links to Officials Folders

Super fun project: add the link to the appropriate Officials message board folder at the bottom of pages (the view folder page, not any specific post). I've done it for all the more recent events pages. I don't think they need to go on individual spell pages, but definitely the spell base pages. Two benefits to this: no more navigating the Officials and hopefully more people will be encouraged to participate in discussions or ask questions in the appropriate place (i.e. ask a question where a GM can respond). I've also been combining all the links into one section titled "Resources" since most of the "External Links" are not exactly external anymore. I don't use References because References is its own wiki function. Input always welcome. VANKRASN39 (talk) 16:15, 12 June 2015 (CDT)

Hearthstone Manor

I completed what is available in Prime for the Legends Bar names, does someone who plays Plat want to add the corresponding chart? VANKRASN39 (talk) 00:38, 6 January 2015 (CST)

The chart for Platinum has been added. DRUNKTANK (talk) 06:10, 13 January 2015 (CST)
Awesome, thanks! (moved section to below outstanding requests) VANKRASN39 (talk) 09:48, 13 January 2015 (CST)

Wild dog

In Mark and my discussion and work on the creature families, I discovered that wild dog does not have a creature page. VANKRASN39 (talk) 10:54, 7 January 2015 (CST)

I have the page setup if anyone can verify that there is such a creature. Should be located in Sylvarraend Road area (Orcswold) but it isn't shown on Tsoran's map. There is a wild hound (level 31) in the official bestiary with the same level, description and location as the wild dog. Neither creature is shown on Tsoran's map and there are no entries in the wild hound page in the wiki. Mark (talk) 11:44, 7 January 2015 (CST)
I am almost certain that wild dogs are in fact the same creatures as the mongrel wolfhounds already listed. The dogs/hounds in the Orcswold can appear with a variety of different adjectives and nouns, but all of them have the same DESCRIBE appearance, like this one that I saw today from a "black wild dog" which matches the description on the mongrel page -- "The large canine is obviously closely related to his domestic cousins, but his vicious growl and the feral gleam in his intelligent eyes speak of his far wilder nature. Ticks and burs speckle his matted, dusty fur, and his wolflike tail sweeps from side to side as he prepares to spring on his intended prey." LUSCINIA (talk) 23:08, 26 February 2015 (CST)

Update Wiki Framework

Trying to make sortable tables, but it looks like the version of wiki that is installed on Krakii doesn't support it. Any chance we could patch that in? Whirlin

class="wikitable sortable" doesn't work for you? It's used here: List of combat maneuvers by profession. Also, heads up that I moved your request to the top of the list as the list since it is a new request. And four tildes for your signature will date stamp your request! Becca 09:57, 3 April 2013 (EDT)
There we go. It was the KP skin suppressing wikitable sortable. HJELTE 10:07, 3 April 2013 (EDT)

Saved Posts

I've noticed over the last few weeks that a lot of saved posts were never linked under the "See Also" sections of the appropriate articles. Sadly, this means that a lot of folk probably never see the a lot posts that were saved since there's a LOT of them to sort through and who knows how many of them can only be found in the Saved Posts category. So, since I've finished posting the treasure info for critters in RR, I figured I'd start going through the Saved Posts category and make sure they're all linked to from the pages it makes sense for them to be. I'll be starting from the beginning and working my way towards the end, if there's someone that wanted to start at the end and meet me somewhere in the middle that would make it go a lot faster, I'm sure. Move Armor hinderance to Armor hindrance

because that's how you spell it. fixing a bunch of places that appears. PFLATS 21:43, 14 June 2010 (EDT)

Go right ahead. There's a MOVE button at the top of each page. I'll delete the incorrect page once you move it. Becca 22:29, 14 June 2010 (EDT)
Sorry, I thought that required more rights than I had. PFLATS 23:38, 14 June 2010 (EDT)

Move Warcries to War Cries

I set up a redirect from War Cries to Warcries, but the in game name is War Cries:

You are a Master of War Cries. You have learned the following War Cries:

hhttp://www.krakiipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Judgment_(1630)

Can someone merge the first into the second and redirect it? --Drew 04:13, 17 September 2009 (EDT)

Sorry about that. I'd thrown the messaging on that 1630 page and forgot about it. I went back and finished. I don't have a paladin, though, so I'm editing blindly (how is that different than normal, amirite?) Becca 06:37, 17 September 2009 (EDT)

For reference, leaving these links in place as they're historical rather than pointing them to gswiki. However, disabling them by adding an additional h in front of the URLs.

Creature Deletion

Since I didn't notice there was already a "putrified Citadel herald" and it was a misspelling of the actual creature name...can a Sysop please delete the page that I created today for "Putrefied Citadel herald" and move "Putrified Citadel herald" to the "putrefied" spelling? Warrior: Guard and Protect

Could someone put up a page with the known info about the guard and protect ability that warriors have?Andreas 14:47, 11 February 2009 (EST)

Minotaurs / Yetis Update Request

Minotaurs and krag yetis on the Wehntoph are no longer around level 25 (less for yetis). These pages need to be updated to reflect their new levels accordingly, which may range from 80-90 or so. I'd do it myself, but I don't know their new levels. Anyone willing? -Quillus 17:44, 4 August 2008 (EDT)

Most of them looked fine to me, but I updated the BCS status and linked to the saved posts about the changes. All of the levels were up on the play.net bestiary. ~ Becca 19:53, 10 December 2008 (EST)

Left-side Navigation

Could we possibly add a "Creatures" category under the "gemstone" heading and have it link to https://gswiki.play.net/mediawiki/index.php/List_of_creatures_by_level ? Then someone coming to Krakiipedia to look up information on a certain creature could go directly to list a of all the creatures by level and find it MUCH easier than trying to use the search feature of the wiki to find it. Adam talk 18:58, 1 August 2008 (EDT)

I added a link to the Category:Creatures. Also, please make sure to add requests below the request list section, and not above the example.  ;) Oliver Talk 17:13, 3 August 2008 (EDT)
Oh yeah, sorry about that. That would have been helpful (putting it above the section). Thanks a lot for the creatures nav add to the sidebar. Adam talk 18:00, 3 August 2008 (EDT)

Page-name change request

(First, I'd like to say that it seems counter-intuitive to add new requests here at the top, but okay, I'll follow directions.) The page for "Sonic Weapon Song (1012)" is incorrectly named "Sonic Blade Song (1012)"; I finally realized that fact after having been editing several of the Bard list for the last week or so. The mnemonic has been correct, but when I updated the list navigation pane the link broke. Can the name of the page be changed? Thanks! Krakii 11:45, 23 July 2008 (EDT)

Learned something new; the "redirect" feature. Nifty. Krakii 14:19, 23 July 2008 (EDT)

Okay... A real request

Not that my previous request wasn't a "real" request, albeit ignored. This request has less to do with admins and more to do with Combat Maneuvers. There's a huge list of combat maneuvers that need to be fleshed out. I'd like those to be our next major focus, followed by finishing up the spell lists, namely Minor Elemental spells. -Andy talk 01:36, 21 October 2006 (EDT)

Two years later, but I finally made all the links blue. It's basically just the template and the info from play.net, and messaging if I have access to the maneuvers, but it will make it much much easier to add any info now that the pages actually exist. Shame on you all for making the least mechanically-inclined person do it! ~ Becca 19:53, 10 December 2008 (EST)

A Main Page request!

GemStone IV 'play' button

Here's one for you, Ollie. The main page really should have a banner displaying the GemStone IV logo. Given that we're one of the best, if not the best, sources of information about GemStone IV on the intarweb, shouldn't we be listed on the links page on Play.net? In order to be listed there, we will need that play button on the main page. -Andy talk 20:35, 12 August 2006 (EDT)

"Internets" is the word you are looking for there. As in, "We are the best source of information on the internets." justin talk 13:57, 13 August 2006 (EDT)

I don't mean to take precidence away from the previous article (Which I feel does deserve some attention and does carry weight), but I'd like to request aid in the Critical randomization article, as I cannot confirm how accurate that information is at the moment (due to a lack of an account in addition to the inability to find any sources for this information). If someone could do me the favor of finding a source or requesting the information on the boards for me, I'd greatly appreciate it. -Andy talk 01:29, 4 August 2006 (EDT)

Power to the users?

Hey, I just set up my own mediawiki for something else, and found out all kinds of neat things, like... You know, it's not that hard to make a site easily navigable. The only way that's remotely efficient to get to pages is to know them already (since I know them and have edited them) or are in the recent changes. I've gotten many complaints from people that it's really hard to find stuff you want to find on KP and this is due to clumsy navigation (at best) and... There's nothing we can do about it. This is of course due to the fact that only a couple people can actually edit important pages. Now, I'm not asking for any Tom, Dick, or Candor off the street te be able to edit pages like MediaWiki:Sidebar or the main page, but you know, we all have play.net accounts... And... Could probably behave. If not, we can vote to ban them or our dictator could probably ban them if they misbehave so much. Short version: Can we registered (and maybe even only us with a long history of responsible edits) users edit more of the content/back end of the mediawiki?justin talk 23:30, 2 August 2006 (EDT)

I don't plan on adding to the ranks of SysOps any time in the forseeable future. If someone feels something should be added to the sidebar or the main page, that's what this requests page is for. - Oliver Talk 11:24, 4 August 2006 (EDT)

Alright, well I think the sidebar would be much more useful if it looked like this:

  • Krakiipedia
    • Category:Profession|Professions
    • Category Races_and_Cultures|Races and cultures
    • Special:Categories|Categories
    • Category:Basic_mechanics|Basic mechanics
    • Magic|Magic
    • Krakiipedia:Requests|Requests
    • Help:Style|Style Guide

If you'd like me to discuss why, I'd be glad to.

And while I'm making this request, I might as well ask that the main page be updated at least once per quarter, and better, maybe weekly or daily. Information like that on a splash page needs to be dynamic or else it becomes invisible. Also, would you go ahead and make pages for: Elven Empire Undead House Chesylcha, Mental Lore, Transformation, Minor Mental, Savant Base, Breakage, Race, Mental, Major Mental, Treasure system, Lornon, Ta'Nalfein, WAVE (verb), Monk Base, Rhoska-tor, Elemental Blade (411), Lorminstra, Holy Receptacle (325), Silvean Rashere? Those are at the top of the wanted pages list. Thanks. If only there were a feature so that users could do things like keep the main page dynamic or make pages like this... I'll google around. justin talk 13:31, 4 August 2006 (EDT)

Note: what I'd actually really like here is the ability to edit the main page, in case that's not clear
No one has been nominating featured articles or growing pains articles, and thus they have not been updated. Nothing else on the main page really needs update, and I don't see anything particularly pertinent to be included on the main page. Again, if something really needs to be added to he main page, a request can be made. As for the missing articles, anyone is quite capable of creating new articles. You don't need a SysOp for that. Just click on the link and start typing. - Oliver Talk 18:40, 5 August 2006 (EDT)

Yeah, I think we'd have to become a GM first to get SysOp privileges, buddy. -Andy talk 21:01, 4 August 2006 (EDT)

Hmmm, and of course, that's the only way to get my username to be not ALLCAPS. Oh well, next stop on my world domination tour: becoming a GM. justin talk 21:36, 4 August 2006 (EDT)

I admit that I'm rather fond of lowercase letters. -Andy talk 04:10, 5 August 2006 (EDT)

Thanks for the change, Oliver. Another request, though, could you link the sidebar to the Magic page, and not the Category:Magic page? justin talk 20:06, 5 August 2006 (EDT)

Though, I've a quick question. Would it really affect the integrity of KP to make someone else an administrator? It is clear that there are a number of users that make active and beneficial edits to this Wiki and have done so reliably. Making them admins would only increase their ability to continue to make beneficial edits to this project. Let me reiterate: There are people with proven track records that clearly would not abuse the priviledge of administrator access. Why keep them from it? Though, it has been made clear that I am not to be trusted, but someone else might think it an honor. It'd also be nice to have an admin that actually, you know, responds to my requests, like the one about the main page. Seeing as this is the second time I've made that request, I'd like to know why no one has done anything with it. -Andy talk 17:52, 16 August 2006 (EDT)

I'll chime in on this topic. Well, I'm new here. In fact, I made my username a while ago (probably at least 6 months ago), but never edited. This was due to what I felt were draconian policies toward users. In my past wiki experience, no usernames or registration was required, and absolutely not a single page was protected. We had a spam clean-up bot that did an awesome job, and otherwise we just monitored the recent changes. I don't see the point in having a wiki if you restrict it so much. I'm an admin on www.wikipaltz.com, and thats how we do things there, and it works great. So, to be clear, I don't think there should be any required usernames, or any application or approval process, it just turns people off. I also don't think anything at all should be protected (minus the back-end type stuff, of course). Opinions? --SUGARBOY234554 03:35, 23 September 2006 (EDT)

I think that Ollie enjoys pretending that we're little children that are incapable of editing and maintaining this particular Wiki without his iron-fist style supervision. It's silly, and I admit a rather large amount of displeasure with him for it. For example, in our IRC channel, Ollie doesn't moderate it, yet, we cannot control our own ops and cannot change the topic without help from him or the select two that he's trusted with ops priveledges... who don't even use the IRC channel, anymore. I cannot think of a logical reason for why he would treat us like this. -Andy talk 13:12, 23 September 2006 (EDT)

Well, ya know what? Fuck 'im, and this wiki. I'll take my wikisavvy here, a GSIV wiki that needs a lot of help. Ollie, I request that my account be deleted, and that all input I've had on your wiki be deleted. This is the courtesty that wikipedia gives, and I hope you do the same for us lowly users. Hope to see you all at the other wiki. --SUGARBOY234554 13:35, 23 September 2006 (EDT)

The whole "GM's are the only admins and everyone else is just a baby who can't hardly be trusted to even shit in the right place" thing really really really bothers me. It's why I've not done any work here lately, though it sorely needs to be done and I'd like to do it. When Mestys was able to come in and (having made like 2 edits in his life) changed the sidebar back to have the User List link, which is pretty much the dumbest link ever and not really helpful or informative to anyone who is using the page for information, because he is a GM I was really bothered. It's just stupid these little things that are done to remind us that we are mere users/players while they are teh uber GM's. Seriously, I'd love it if Oliver could get over his specialness and either relax the restrictions on what mere users can do or let the people that contribute actively and have track records of being consistent and "good" in their editing be Admins. The IRC channel business is absolutely retarded as well. justin talk 13:43, 23 September 2006 (EDT)

I'm seeing a lot of chaffing at the bit in this thread. I'll address several topics brought up in this discussion.*The Admin issue - Yes, places like Wikipedia have many admins and editors routinely can ask to be made such and are elected. Yet, it took a couple years or so before Wikipedia adopted the admin system that it has today. On top of that, and I think the real important issue, Wikipedia has tens of thousands of editors. I think KP has under ten? I just feel that it might sew more disgruntlement among the other editors if one person was made Admin out of this small group, than none at all. In my time here, I haven't been in a situation where having Admin abilities were required. Thats just me, though.
Editor qualification - What does it do? It makes you wait about 24 hours to start editting. What does this affect? The random passerby adding something on the spur of the moment. I think it would be great to have the process sped up to as instantaneous as possible, but it does ensure that those who know Gem best are the ones editting KP. And on the rare occurrence there's someone who has played Gem considerably, but currently does not have an account, well, perhaps something could be implemented where present editors could vouch for that person. As is, this is not really that big a deal. Those affected by it are those who's attention is lost over the time that it takes to sign up.
That other Wiki. They lift material, without citing it, directly from Gem documentation. Thats certainly nothing that Wikipedia approves of. So for those thinking of going there to work, you might want to fix that. :)
Rail 09:17, 24 September 2006 (EDT)
I've continued to streamline the account request process as much as I could over the short life of KP so far, and its current implementation is steps above and beyond what was originally in place. I've looked into a completely automated system, which was the original goal, but just haven't had time to explore the MediaWiki software in enough detail to manage it. Activating confirmed accounts is part of my morning KP ritual, and one of the first things I do in my day.
Oliver Talk 16:18, 26 September 2006 (EDT)

I don't much care about becoming an Admin, myself, but I would like it a lot better if Ollie would communicate with us when he won't grant a given request, or if he justified the reasons for the restrictions in certain areas. Let me sum up the reasons for my discontent: Why won't he add KP to the Simutronics Player Sites list? Why is the Main Page locked while the Wiki has account-limited access? Why can't we change the topic in the IRC channel? What happens if someone disruptive joins the public IRC channel without someone to kick or ban said person? Why does he have to make it so that him and two select others that never touch these projects have the power to make these changes when those of us that actually use it cannot have the same power? If Ollie, Ildran, or Mestys were active editors of KP, I couldn't complain at all about the choice of admins. If Ollie, Jen, and Ted were active visitors to the IRC channel, I couldn't complain about the lack of ops access or the inability to change the topic. Here is where the problem lies, my friend. -Andy talk 13:07, 24 September 2006 (EDT)

The main page is protected for the same reason any other page is protected. There shouldn't be any reason to ever edit it. As for my activity, I read KP every morning, and generally check it once or twice a day after that. I read over most if not all of the contributions made each day, though I don't have time to write articles myself. When requests are posted, I consider them, and take action how I see fit. As long as I am paying to keep this site existent out of my own pocket, I will administer it as such.
I had a vision for KP since I conceived the idea, and invite others to come and take part in it, but it's still very much my personal vision. If you do not agree, then you are welcome to voice your opinions, but I am under absolutely no obligation to agree with them. I will continue to define policy for KP as I see necessary to ensure KP adheres to my vision for it. If, in the end, that drives editors away, then I suppose that is my loss. However, it is one I am willing to take.
That being said, not everything is a cut and dry as one might perceive. KP is a fairly unique site among other 'player' sites, in that it is run and paid for by a GameMaster. As such, it is bound by policies I have to adhere to by being a GameMaster and having the privilage to create and run such a site.
The IRC related issues, which really have no place here in the first place, could have been solved with a simple message on AIM.
Oliver Talk 16:18, 26 September 2006 (EDT)

You know, I suddenly find myself without reason to bitch. May the editing of KP continue! -Andy talk 18:07, 26 September 2006 (EDT)

Though, users like SUGARBOY234554 and EDWARDRIMKUS (April) would likely want the privilege to change their user names without having to pay a fee to Simutronics. Additionally, I'm quite certain that all of us non-GMs would love to have non-capped user names. I suppose making capped usernames makes the automation a bit simpler, or something, but it is quite visually unappealing. Of course, visual appeal is one of the key points of an encyclopedia, since, you know, they are works of art. Heh. I am aware that usernames don't appear in the main articles. The purpose of that last point was, more or less, humor. -Andy talk 18:44, 26 September 2006 (EDT)

Missing Skills

I'd like to see the skills filled out. These are still missing: Shield Use, Multi Opponent Combat, Physical Fitness, Magic Item Use, Spirit Mana Control, Spiritual Lore, Blessings, Spiritual Lore, Religion, Spiritual Lore, Summoning, Mental Lore, Divination, Mental Lore, Manipulation, Mental Lore, Telepathy, Mental Lore, Transference, Mental Lore, Transformation, Survival, Swimming, First Aid, and Pickpocketing. Now, this isn't a push, or anything. I'd like to see these filled out by someone who is truly interested in writing these. Obviously, I'll work on them eventually, myself, but help is always welcome. Also, anyone is welcome to work on my "To Do" list under my user page. It's seen, well, a LOT of additons. Seems the more I finish, the more I have to do! -Belathus 21:12, 26 March 2006 (PST)

"navigation" list

Any chance that we could get the "category" list added to the navigation pane in the lefthand margin? Currently, you have to go to the Main Page and then click on the link about halfway down that. Thanks! Krakii 06:56, 26 January 2006 (PST)

I'll look into it when I get a chance. I'm not ever sure where it's generated. :grins: I was also thinking the front page should have a bit of an extended offering of initial navigation options. Was thinking of something like three to four encompassing categories, something like World, Mechanics, Player Lore, with a list of a few (maybe random) articles from each category below it. Maybe even snippets from some of the articles as a kind of 'featured article'. It's a thought for the future anyway. - Oliver 07:05, 26 January 2006 (PST)
Figured it out! You'll notice a bunch of snazzy new stuff over there on the left-hand side of KP. Leave suggestions of what we should include there. - Oliver

Planar Shifting

Ildran, could you renumber the Planar Shifting saved posts from 1-9 to instead be 01-09? In this way, they will all appear in a nice, sensible order rather than jumping from 1 to 11 to 2 to 3 et cetera. Thanks! Krakii 12:06, 11 January 2006 (CST)

Not Ildran, but it's done.  ;) Big pain in the ass it was too. Freakin' category listing wouldn't update after the moves/deletes.  :( Anshou 12:30, 11 January 2006 (CST)
Sorry about that. Didnt know there were going to be that many when I got started. Will try to be aware in the future. ULTHRIPE 00:24, 12 January 2006 (CST)

Pickpocketing

What stats and skills (other than PP and perception) that play into it? WELCHA 12:39, 7 January 2006 (CST)

I'm not sure if I've stated that before. If I have, then someone would be able to post it up here, but if I haven't, then the boards would be the proper place to request that kind of information. This shouldn't be the place where people go to get original information from GMs, since it's not an official site. Ildran 14:40, 7 January 2006 (CST)
Was more looking to see a general overview of pickpocket with those specific questions included. I'd assume someone out there has written up a "guide" or "overview" of some sort that includes that kind of information. Perhaps not. WELCHA 15:14, 7 January 2006 (CST)
Yeah, I don't think anyone has since PP changed for GS4, both because pickpocketing is something that people try not to draw attention to and because we've never released that information. Ildran 19:34, 7 January 2006 (CST)
Now someone has. Though, it took me a while to get around to asking, my most recent request kinda prompted the question. -Belathus 22:45, 29 March 2006 (PST)

Guild Maps

I just made a map of the wizard guild in the landing, and can't find any place that it would be appropriate. Perhaps a maps section? or a wizard guild section could be started ALKALOIDS 11:32, 29 January 2006 (PST)

I'd say include it at Wizard Guild (Wehnimer's Landing). Each guild is different enough that it makes enough sense to have a separate article for each linked from the main Wizard Guild article. you can upload the map to KP over on the left, the Upload file link. Also, just FYI, this would most likely have been better at the Village Pump rather than the requests page. Oliver 11:26, 30 January 2006 (PST)
So, I planted some basic architecture over in Guilds. Let me know if the sub-categorization is superflous, I tried to emulate the style which I observed over in Spells. Ulthripe 00:47, 1 February 2006 (PST)
I've learned how to make maps and just completed one for the Cleric's Guild but there isn't any link here for that Guild (too new maybe). I might create more if I can figure out how to share them. If anyone wants to create a link to the map, the url is https://home.comcast.net/~pimbrooke/IMT-ClericGuild.gif TASCHNERS 00:20, 28 January 2008 (EST)

Organizations and Societies category

Could we get a category added for a combined subcat listing of houses, orders and societies? My main goal is to have a place to put the order of Lorekeepers info, but it could also be where information on PROs, houses, voln and col go. - Ren 3:22, 6 Febuary 2006 (EST)

Category:Societies already exists it looks like. In any case, categories don't have to be explcitly created. You just include in an article, and the software handles everything else. I'd suggest CHEs and PROs being separated into their own categories, probably named :Category:Cooperative Houses of Elanthia and :Category:Player-Run Organizations respectively. These categories should probably be subcategories of Category:World. I think a societies article exists already as well, could use one for Cooperative Houses of Elanthia and Player-Run Organizations. If you want a page for the Order of Lorekeepers, just make it there and include it in the world category I guess. I'm not sure if we really need a single encompasing category to contain all. - Oliver (User | Talk) 14:59, 6 February 2006 (PST)

I'd love to see the CHE influence system added here. - Ozias

Staff List

The last staff list has rolled off the boards, and I can't for the life of me find one. Is it possible to get a list of the known GM staff posted? Xygon 11:08, 23 January 2007 (PST)

Someone posted the list from last year just a couple weeks ago, I believe in the Discussion on Goals for 2007 topic. Rail 14:27, 23 January 2007 (EST)
Found it Right here. Rail 14:30, 23 January 2007 (EST)
I put the Gemstone IV staff list up here a few months ago...I've already had to edit it a whole bunch. I thought about keeping a list of former GMs somewhere, and what they had hands in, but...I guess that's what the history thingee is for. ~ Becca 19:53, 10 December 2008 (EST)

Cities and Towns

Currently, there are two categories for these. Do you think it'll be better off to combine them into one category so all of the city/towns are in one category/page? ODINSON 04:24, 17 February 2007 (EST)

Yes, I believe they should be combined. Additionally, new requests should be placed on the top of this page. Oh, and welcome to Krakiipedia! - Andy talk 17:23, 17 February 2007 (EST)
As is indicated by the descriptive text of Category:Towns, that particular category is only for player-accessible (i.e. areas implemented in the game that are mechanically considered a town.) The cities category is for, as one would expect, cities. You'll note that places like Wehnimer's Landing and Icemule Trace aren't included in the cities category, as they are not nearly large enough to qualify for that name. Basically, the Towns category already has every article it should ever have included in it, baring the addition of new town or town-like areas to GemStone. I'm not sure why the Citizenship article is in the towns category, but I'll find a better place for it. Oliver Talk 10:38, 18 February 2007 (EST)
