Darcena [dahr-SEEN-ah] stumbled into Wehnimer's Landing in 5097 at the age of thirteen. Discovered as a snarly uncommunicative child in a wolf den in the Dragon Spine Mountains a few years prior, Darcena came upon the town alone and in a confusion as to her heritage. Over the years, she has learned that she is an Ur-Daemon cursed Grot'karesh with some peculiar magical quirks to include extreme blood lust and waking nightmares she believes are prophetic. She hears the voices of those who are crying for vengeance through her connection to the spiritual magic and The Huntress. Darcena seems driven to heal others, never turning down a request for aid. She regularly remarks that physical pain is nothing compared to the spiritual pain she carries in her heart and mind.

Between bone-shattering hunts, Darcena is often found relaxing in the Stumbling Pebble Bar II, leaned against the Hearthstone Steps, swimming in the Sovyn mud baths, or chatting with friends wherever they prefer. When not in those locales, she's off scouting Elanthia for signs of Despana's imminent return on behalf of her clan members of Kilanirij.

She appears to be a Giantman of the Grot'karesh Clan.
Resting elegantly on her head is a wrought silver crown, the metal surface etched with intricate designs of twining ivy. Set on either side of the crown are tiered antlers, their branching tines bleached to a pale bone white.
She is taller than average and has a well-toned frame. She appears to have come of age. She has bright, emerald-flecked argent silver eyes and fair skin. She has very long, thick raven-hued hair loosely gathered by some blooded rolton wool ribbons dangling beaded emerald strands interspersed with countless gore-smeared braids. She has a triangular face, high cheekbones, and a forked scar near her neckline. Her eyes are framed by thick, naturally clumped eyelashes.

She has numerous piercings and multiple tattoos (see below).
She has several mercurial half-moon rings in the ridges of both her ears, some splintery bone shards in her right eyebrow, a weathered bone chelioboros inlaid with tiny emerald eyes in her left eyebrow, a silvery stud in the shape of a rolton in her left nostril, a wide tattooed Saramar-enruned armband on her arm, a black Saramar-enruned throat tattoo on her neck, and a tattooed snarled lover's knot composed of five distinctly hued strands on her finger.

Diagonal streaks of kohl black warpaint form a mask across her eyes, the undulating design echoed along her forehead and chin.

an inked pack of wolves on your leg
This image is almost completely dark, and the edges of the blackness drift off into tendrils that quickly dissipate as they near the ankle. At the center of the image is a guttering campfire rendered in a sullen crimson hue. The darkness is only barely deterred by its glow, but in the circle of its light sits a heavily scarred man with a large axe gripped tight in one fist. a silver-eyed giantwoman portrait encircled by Saramar runes inked on your arm Pigments of Memory
Thick, tangled atramentous lines blanket the clavicle and shoulder, coiling sinuously until they create a frame on the deltoid and gracefully descend in a complicated knotwork pattern to the elbow. Intermittent silver-limned Saramar runes are dappled into every available corner and curve, but the bulk encircle an impressionistic giantwoman grasping an axe. The raven-haired woman crouches within the line-and-rune frame, her expressive silver eyes in high detail, peering out with a haunted expression.</pre>

|-
|-
|Bloodjewel<br />
|She has very long, thick raven-hued hair in a loose mass of purposefully twisted locks.
You have a sanguine redolence haunting the air about you, a shroud of crimson that evolves with subtle movement. Playing darkness against light, chords of cardamom intertwine with airy vanilla, forenotes that veil a heart steeped in blood to ground the scent with a metallic twang. As the fragrance departs, a bite of red chilis nips at its heels, a sharp farewell to leave a lasting impression.
|-
|-
|Clandestine<br />
|She has very long, thick raven-hued hair woven into a riotous mass of incredibly thin braids that are sporadically peppered with verdigris copper beads and great horned owl plumules.
You have tendrils of opium-tainted smoke wrapping themselves around a base of blackish mahogany, creating a haunting silhouette against a velvet-like backdrop of night-blooming jasmine. Clutched by the dark trio of notes is the barest metallic whisper of freshly spilled blood, the twisted melange left untempered against your skin.
|-
|-
|Forest of Thorns<br />
|She has very long, thick raven-hued hair pushed back with some blooded rolton wool ribbons dangling beaded emerald strands that tangle in her bone-strewn, twisted locks.
You have notes of rain-soaked foliage draped along sharpened boughs of blackthorn, permeating the soil-rich fragrance, each component concealing the next as the scent shifts in turn. A soft whisper of vanilla-tinged fur rubs against the heart of the fragrance, warming the core within a lattice of greenery.
|-
|-
|Serpentine<br />
|She has very long, thick raven-hued hair loosely gathered by some blooded rolton wool ribbons dangling beaded emerald strands interspersed with countless gore-smeared braids.
You have a breath of the wildwood lingering soft and effusive on your skin, each subtle note a sigh that tickles the senses then is gone. The green must and damp of the weald conveys the richness of forest loam and is followed close behind by petrichor that carries resinous oud from the depths of moss and vine. As the aqueous notes clear the heart, a balm of cleansing aloe guides the sillage to a tender finish.
|-
|-
|The Winter Huntsman<br />
|She has very long, thick raven-hued hair that overwhelms some blooded rolton wool ribbons dangling beaded emerald strands, which are barely visible beneath the explosive mass of unkempt matted locks.
You have the scent of bourbon-soaked vanilla falling upon a base of whitened musk dusting your skin, the frost-laden accords hanging above the rest of the notes like a haze of freshly fallen snow. As the fragrance tempers, the crisp hints of evergreen fade gradually, leaving the haunting whisper of woodsmoke lingering above it all.
|-
|Someday, a custom similar to this...<br />
Darcena is wreathed in a subtly sweet yet rich scent dominated by a fragrant woody and aromatic cedar base note. A hint of acrimonious and cloying resinous pine terpene wafts through the air followed by a surprising sanguineous hiss of fresh, coppery blood and raw meat. Above these mingled notes floats sharp ozone and the tang of well-oiled leather while buried deep is the dank permeation of bacterial petrichor.

|-
|a gnarled grey witchwood walking stick graven with sigils and runes (Sigil Staff)<br />
Dark grey irregularly-ridged bark clings to the walking stick in wide helical strips, its striated, swirling patterns uncannily and fleetingly resembling myriad screaming faces. Deeply graven sigils and Saramar runes fill the atramentous wood between in haphazard linear succession. Tortile veins of argent silver streak throughout and spiral up to cradle a large trillion-cut emerald nestled in a superfluous branch collar at the apex of the gnarled stick. You notice 2 sigils more pronounced than the others along the stick: a brightly glowing sigil with bands of concentric geometry and a sigil emitting coruscating emerald-imbued argent sparks that shimmer in and out of existence. You also notice a small enchanter's glyph. A strange necrotic haze radiates from the stick.
|-

|-
|a sinuous curved scepter topped with a crimson-swirled dark lunar orb (Animalistic Spirit Weapon)
|-
|a polished dark vultite fang with a silver-inlaid spike
|-
|a polished smooth steel bidenhander (gift from Chaoswynd)<br />
The superior steel of the weapon has been hammered into smooth, simple lines and polished to a high gleam. The strong and flexible metal extends from an unadorned bar guard, gradually tapering to a fine point while dark oiled leather has been wrapped along the hilt between the guard and the half-moon pommel. A shallow fuller runs along the blade, the metal inlaid with Saramar runes providing the only true ornamentation. You notice a small enchanter's glyph and Kzfoul's crafting mark.<br />
There appears to be something written on it.<br />
In the Giantman language, it reads:<br />

Pack of the Ishan
Darcena enjoys knitting, weaving, foraging, and making live sculpture from mosses and plants. She communicates using the Language of Flowers.
The Pack of the Ishan has no formal structure and is not recognized by any sort of authority - à propros, since Darcena likewise doesn't recognize most authority. Darcena is absolutely loyal to and protective of her pack. Conflicts within the pack are for the individual members to sort out themselves. While the below adventurers are part of Darcena's pack, she also has a nebulous connection to wolves in the area as well who sometimes show up to help her at her call.

Darcena won first place in Cairnfang Manor's 2021 Solhaven Grand Art Exhibit with her piece titled Beguiled by Beauty.
Pack
<prelog2>a mossy driftwood-edged collection
Spindle-stemmed puffy balls of emerald green cushion moss coil artfully across the irregular shape created by four sinuous driftwood pieces lashed by thin strands of silver. A short clipping of pronged red dogwood protrudes from one end of the curvilinear clumps of moss, creating three-dimensional interest, while selectively placed snake agates peek out of the moss in trios. Mats of soft, umber moss with thicker, bushy gametophytes fill the rest of the space, dotted haphazardly by shards of bloodjewel.</pre>

When asked about the meaning behind the piece, Darcena states that it is important that we all remember how dangerous Luukos is. It is important not to be beguiled by the surface, but to look deeper and remember the past. The eyes are watching.
<div style="column-count:4;-moz-column-count:4;-webkit-column-count:4">

{| role="presentation" class="wikitable mw-collapsible mw-collapsed"
| Inspiration for Beguiled by Beauty (OOC explanation)
|-
|Overtly, the moss is sculpted to look like the symbol of Luukos (a green serpent on a brown field) with a forked red dogwood tongue. There is intentional alliteration and assonance throughout the piece "spindle-stemmed," "cushion/coil/across/clipping," "sinuous/pieces", "strands/silver", "curvilinear/clumps/creating", "dimensional/selectively/snake/moss/trios/mats/soft" with a back-and-forth throughout of softer, slithery snakey sounds and harsh consonant stops interspersed with /sh/. (Read it out loud!)

The puffy emerald green cushion moss comprising the snake is dotted with snake agate, which according to lore resembles the scales of a snake. This was placed on the moss to help it look like a snake covered in snake scales. In addition, agate itself represents the soul in Erithian lore and is also widely aligned with spiritual magic. Moss agate is a symbol of Gosaena (and while it wasn't named in a piece, it was obliquely intended that moss and agate in general would lead one to think of Gosaena) and represents the transition from living to going through the Ebon Gate.

In the Turamzzyrian Empire, bloodjewels are representative of drops of blood, but they are also a reference to V'tull. Darcena is connected to the Arkati of combat and bloodlust personally, but also through her relationship with Madmountan. Bloodjewels are also affiliated with earth, which is Darcena's element.

When combining this concept of the soul, snake scales, and the transition from life to death with the shards of bloodjewel representing drops of blood which are scattered across the field behind the snake, you get a mental image of Luukos himself who sustains himself on souls and blood. Bloodlust, indeed.

There's a dogwood outside of the Safehaven in Mist Harbor, which is an important location for Darcena. She would claim she got the clipping from that tree. Dogwood represents durability according to the Nalfein Black Rose Decks, and Darcena prides herself on her ability to endure. In the slatted fortune case, dogwood is engraved with a green wolf, is symbolized by the wolf, and Charna associates it with the earth element, resourcefulness, self-sufficiency, loyalty, and allegiance. These are all things important to Darcena.

Driftwood was chosen because sometimes Darcena has felt like she is just carried wherever her impactful Arkati, spirits, and curse will it.

If you've never seen living sculpture with moss before, this is an actual artform.

At the end of her strength and going mad with starvation, Darcena's mother became lost in the mountains. She despaired and lost a portion of her sanity, devoting everything to Darcena. When she was at her end with nothing left to give, she fell to her knees clutching Darcena close. At the last moment, her eyes going dark, she looked up and saw a brown doe standing but a few feet away, staring at her with intense eyes. The doe vanished into the snows and was replaced by a party from the Vaikalimara Clan who took in Darcena and her mother and brought them back to camp. Despite nursing Darcena's mother back to health, Darcena's mother still remained mentally broken. Darcena took after her father, a brute. As she grew older, Darcena brutally killed three of her playmates who had been teasing her, without hesitation, then calmly told her mother what she had done.

Darcena's mother was heartbroken to see so much of her father in her. The elders of the clan came to her mother with a solution. The clan members offered to wipe Darcena's memory in hopes that she wouldn't remember her father, creating a blank slate for her mother to imprint upon. Darcena's mother was against it but the clan was insistant. They took Darcena from her mother's arms and Darcena's mother lost more of her sanity. The clan wiped Darcena's memory and brought her back to her mother, but her mother was too far gone. She didn't even see Darcena and she turned away. Confused, Darcena herself ran and was never seen by the clan or her mother again. The clan told her mother that Darcena was safe and well.

Kheelin explained to Darcena that her mother was the soul of patience, loyal to Darcena's father to the extreme, and that she loved Darcena with everything she had. Kheelin challenged Darcena to open up and love others as much as her mother had loved her.

Having her heart broken in Wehnimer's Landing and still not understanding her vivid daydreams and blood lust, Darcena set off to visit the city of her supposed parents, Kilanirij. While there, she learned to read and write Saramar with her Grot'karesh brethren. She grew to understand what she held inside, the curse within her blood, and she continued to keep its effects hidden from her peers for fear of being studied and taken by one of the Preceptors to the Asylum. While in Kilanirij, Darcena indulged in the culture and felt an instant connection with the other Grot'karesh; she developed a renewed sense of purpose in the quest to foil Despana's return. During the Festival of the Dead, she was offered to be a caretaker for the tomb of a family line that had no living members. This heartbreaking experience brought her to the point of wanting to seek out more information on her own family line. She returned to the Dragon Spine, which still felt like home to her, following leads on her heritage and staying vigilant for signs of Despana. Sending reports back to Kilanirij, she earned the title Ishan. Darcena traveled for awhile with the Araime, as well, apprenticing to a mentor of the Ikarrak. Eventually, her wanderings brought her back within reach of the Landing and she decided to stay with her friends for awhile longer.

Following her nose, Darcena stalked across the path towards a narrow gap between two shops opposite a tidy brownstore dwelling. Continuing to mutter under her breath, she snarled, "I should have known you’d be back where it all started. Probably looking for just as many answers as I am."

Against her will, Darcena’s eyes turned inward to the visions she’d had – the ones that felt as if they were dredged up through decades of sucking muck and stunk just as much. Without answers, could she really trust those feelings of warmth and reassurance? An almost-familiar-face teasing her memory and calling her daughter?

The Harbinger of Despana (5119 - present)
After being one of the first to attack Raznel during the night in 5119 when she died, Darcena continued to loyally and steadfastly stay by Madmountan's side as she had done since 5118. Early in 5120, two officially paired off and were seen together frequently, reportedly living together. Having reconciled her personal life, Darcena began to search for more pack members to add to her family. Her thoughts clearer and her mind more at ease, she also began sending reports back to Kilanirij, reporting on her discoveries regarding Despana. Darcena began to branch farther and farther afield, visiting Icemule Trace, Solhaven, River's Rest, Teras Isle, and Ta'Illistim frequently - still splitting most of her time between Wehnimer's Landing and Mist Harbor.

|Darcena reclined diagonally in one of the half-cask chairs at the Stumbling Pebble II, one leather-sheathed leg kicked up over the armrest, dangling an austere grey rolton hide boot over the edge in mid air. She idly kicked her foot, causing the fractured glaes to glint in the light, while her index finger rested along her high cheekbone and her thumb propped up her chin. The position was supported by an elbow plopped on a nearby grime-coated couch back.

Muttering to herself in the giantman language, Darcena glanced over at Greth briefly, and then returned her attention to her broth. “Akenna is pack. Gonna need to ask the pack to patrol. We are strongest together. The eyes. They’re always watching.” Her head tilted to the side and she appeared to be listening to something otherwise inaudible. “Spirits are loud today.” She grunted and abruptly rose to her feet and stalked over to the white oak bar. Switching to common, she announced to Greth, “I’m going to send the pack over to Akenna’s house to keep an eye on it. This can’t stand.”

Lyrna was indisposed, but Darcena knew just how to get a hold of her. Darcena whispered a message to her barred owl charm and it rose with a flutter of air, off to find its recipient. Scout will need to know, even if she can’t make it. Of course her own pack takes precedence here. Darcena nodded once to herself, the motion swift. While she was waiting for a response from the go-between, Darcena could make arrangements with everyone else.

---

Within a couple hours, a schedule had been set. Jaysehn assured Darcena he would be staying at Akenna’s side at all times, freeing Darcena to secure the larger area.

Giantphang had headed over immediately after Darcena had sent him a mental message. His cheerful announcement that Mel would be happy to defend his pack was accompanied with a frightful mental bzzing noise that had nearly rattled Darcena’s concentration. She’d reminded him several times what Akenna’s house looked like and where it could be found and he reassured her that Mel had it under control.

<<Phang might seem sweet and innocent, but any one of those nearly comically-oversized weapons of his would stop any would-be vandalists in their tracks.>>

While she had been striding around town making arrangements, Darcena had caught the persistent whiff of rodent. Finally, she heaved an exasperated breath, and turned in her tracks. She had crouched and growled, “What?”

The tiny familiar had squeaked a reply, “Tolwynn would like to speak with you.”

Darcena had considered thoughtfully. She didn’t know Tolwynn well, but if he wanted her attention, it was likely important. Handfuls of minutes later, it had been arranged. Tolwynn had explained that he had heard Darcena speaking at Greth’s from the cover of invisibility, and he had an idea of how he could help. Despite not being willing to put more of his people in direct danger, he indicated he would provide more coverage by asking his staff to send rodents to cover Akenna’s house at all times, keeping an eye out for any companions or familiars that might try to take advantage of their size to sneak through the patrols and for any fellow magic-practitioners using invisibility.

A few more mental exchanges and Chaoswynd had volunteered to relieve Giantphang and cover most of the night, wordlessly sneaking around with only his companion Owliver for company.

---

After his patrol, Cay snarkily noted that as he was passing through the neighborhood he saw an ineffectual dark elf trying to break into another house marked with the yellow x. He’d also seen him sneaking around and staring at doors. Just as Darcena was about to rip into him, Cay added as a teasing afterthought, “It was Yardie.” Darcena had huffed out a laugh and rolled her eyes. He wasn’t a threat.

Khaell had decided to watch over Akenna’s neighborhood in the early morning, taking over for Cay. He’d been really distracted lately, but Darcena knew she could trust him. Together, they were more centered - more balanced. Sure enough, when his report came in after his shift, he mentioned several details about the neighborhood that indicated he’d thoroughly investigated the area. Outside of the marks, nothing seemed too amiss to him other than Arianiss walking around. In and of itself, it wasn’t too suspicious, but Darcena made a mental note that Arianiss had not contacted her. He might bear watching.

---

Darcena went for her usual late morning run and cleaned up before she dragged a sleepy Madmountan out of their bed. They’d spent most of the night on the seas drinking and destroying pirates before falling into bed together. Several hours into the patrol, Darcena caught a strange smell which led her to a shadowy figure tucked around a corner from Akenna’s house. She swiftly strode towards the hiding place, but the figure had taken off on a run. She tore after the extremely tall and slender figure, but it kept making near-impossible acrobatic leaps and grabs that Darcena had to scramble to match. The figure slowly got the lead on her and her fierce giant mate and disappeared.

Frustrated, Darcena swore, producing a low, guttural, rumbling growl before the nearly-inhuman noise dropped off and was replaced by unintelligible mutterings that rose and fell in sharp staccato. A pregnant silence held while Madmountan eyed her. Darcena took a deep breath and then asked Madmountan to head back to watch the house as she scoured the neighborhood for more scents. Many handfuls of minutes later, a bored mental thought from her mate expressed in Darcena’s mind, “There’s a crowd gathering. And Faerinn is at Akenna’s door wearing an opossum.”

Darcena sprinted back to Akenna’s house. If Faerinn was there, it was likely that trouble was soon to follow. Sure enough, Darcena arrived to witness Faerinn staring at a gash in the door with a sonic axe in his hand. She snarled.

<<Akenna has been through enough and now she is going to have to see this damage? What will this do to her anxiety?>>

Darcena knew if she confronted Faerinn at that moment for scaring her pack, his head would be ripped from his body. She glared at Madmountan, her entire body tense. She sent a swift thought. You could have stopped this, love. Turning sharply, Darcena growled and stalked off. She acknowledged that it would take longer than their year together to help him feel the importance of the pack. But, he was right here beside her and for now, that was enough.

Darcena sent a message to Zolis and asked him to take over. She briefly recounted the scent and description of the figure she’d reported. Zolis responded in the affirmative and mentioned he’d be bringing along Darcena’s near pack, Thrassus.

As she passed out of the neighborhood, she stumbled across the constable. Her pack had noted had been patrolling the area frequently as well. The constable called out his thanks to her for her help, but Darcena stalked off without acknowledging him and headed home. When she arrived, she found a letter tacked to her door with Lyrna’s regrets that she was still busy with her own pack, but she wanted Darcena to keep her in the loop with what happened.

---

Thrassus’ amused, snickering imprint crossed Darcena’s mind, “Zolis is up to something.” In no mood to deal with it after the disaster of the morning, Darcena responded, “As long as he’s keeping Akenna safe, I don’t care.”

Darcena turned her attention to updating everyone else on the information about the figure and Faerinn’s findings that the x wasn’t damaged by the swing of his axe.

Just as she’d concluded that round of information sharing, she received another thought from Thrassus. “Zolis and I were watching Akenna’s house and that neighbor’s house. I observed that the x pulsed - just once - and emitted a small surge of energy. I confirmed with Zolis. He noticed the pulse as well at the same time.”

Darcena sighed with exhaustion. Time for another round of messages. She knew she'd missed a person here or there, but planned on catching up with them all in the morning. The people on patrol knew, at least.

---

Darcena crawled onto her rolton wool pillows and snuggled up next to Madmountan... just as she got another mental message, although this was from someone unfamiliar to her. “Ishan? Our mouse just spotted a sylvan wreathed in a deep crimson haze walking around Akenna’s house.” The voice went on to describe the flawless ivory skin and a glimpse of tempestuous silver-flecked dark amethyst eyes. Wearily Darcena thought back, “That’s just Storm. She’s with me.”

The voice hesitantly thought back, “Understood. Ishan? ….Did you know about the blood sigils covering every reachable part of the house?”

Darcena crawled back out of bed, swore loudly as she remembered Thrassus’ earlier laughter, and growled, “Zolis! You’re dead!” Madmountan stirred, but fell back to sleep. Yet another of the day’s screw ups for her to clean up before Akenna noticed. While Zolis was probably helping to protect the property, Akenna would likely not appreciate blood sigils everywhere.

Stalking out of the house, she cast a longing look back at her mate. She breathed out a worried sigh. He’d still be there when she got back. Probably. Raznel's gone, Darcena. The scarabs are gone. She shook her head as if to knock the doubts free and carefully closed the door.

Heading to Mist Harbor, Darcena got to work cleaning up the most obvious of the sigils, but left the less obvious ones. Protection of all kinds was needed here. She had one more thought that she’d need to catch the dwarf tomorrow and let him know everything that had happened. It was Ulkov’s turn to take a jaunt through the neighborhood.

Darcena [dahr-SEEN-ah] stumbled into Wehnimer's Landing in 5097 at the age of thirteen. Discovered as a snarly uncommunicative child in a wolf den in the DragonSpine Mountains a few years prior, Darcena came upon the town alone and in a confusion as to her heritage. Over the years, she has learned that she is an Ur-Daemon-cursed Grot'karesh with some peculiar magical quirks to include extreme blood lust and waking nightmares she believes are prophetic. She hears the voices of those who are crying for vengeance through her connection to the spiritual magic and The Huntress. She is also a member of the Vaikalimara Clan. Darcena seems driven to heal others, never turning down a request for aid. She regularly remarks that physical pain is nothing compared to the spiritual pain she carries in her heart and mind.

Between bone-shattering hunts, Darcena is often found relaxing in the Stumbling Pebble Bar II, leaned against the Hearthstone Steps, swimming in the Sovyn mud baths, at Moonshine Manor, or chatting with friends wherever they prefer. When not in those locales, she's off scouting Elanthia for signs of Despana's imminent return on behalf of her clan members of Kilanirij.

"I am the Ishan. I am the Butcher. I am the Harbinger. Despana is coming and blood will flood the world. The eyes -- the eyes, they are watching."

Writer's note: This is all considered public knowledge. Darcena has not been shy about expressing these things in public and has probably been overheard by every possible town citizen over the past two decades. A pint at the pub would yield you a lot of this information. This is not all there is, of course, to her. She has many secrets.

Appearance

You see Darcena Wolf-Valslayer the Butcher.
She has very long, thick raven-hued hair in a loose mass of purposefully twisted locks. She has a triangular face, high cheekbones, and a forked scar near her neckline. Her eyes are framed by thick, naturally clumped eyelashes.
She has numerous piercings and multiple tattoos (see below).
Diagonal streaks of kohl black warpaint form a mask across her eyes, the undulating design echoed along her forehead and chin.
She gives off a wild demeanor.
She is in good shape.
A slowly rotating ring of sigils encircles each of her hands, scribed on the air in coruscating emerald-imbued argent energy.

Hobbies

Darcena enjoys knitting, weaving, foraging, and making live sculpture from mosses and plants. She communicates using the Language of Flowers.

Darcena won first place in Cairnfang Manor's 2021 Solhaven Grand Art Exhibit with her piece titled Beguiled by Beauty.

a mossy driftwood-edged collection
Spindle-stemmed puffy balls of emerald green cushion moss coil artfully across the irregular shape created by four sinuous driftwood pieces lashed by thin strands of silver. A short clipping of pronged red dogwood protrudes from one end of the curvilinear clumps of moss, creating three-dimensional interest, while selectively placed snake agates peek out of the moss in trios. Mats of soft, umber moss with thicker, bushy gametophytes fill the rest of the space, dotted haphazardly by shards of bloodjewel.

When asked about the meaning behind the piece, Darcena states that it is important that we all remember how dangerous Luukos is. It is important not to be beguiled by the surface, but to look deeper and remember the past. The eyes are watching.

Pack of the Ishan

The Pack of the Ishan has no formal structure and is not recognized by any sort of authority - à propros, since Darcena likewise doesn't recognize most authority. Darcena is absolutely loyal to and protective of her pack. Conflicts within the pack are for the individual members to sort out themselves. While the below adventurers are part of Darcena's pack or associated with it, she also has a nebulous connection to wolves in the area as well who sometimes show up to help her at her call.

Stories

A Forgotten Birth (Unknown - Spring 5094)

Up until 5119, Darcena had no memory of her past from the time of her birth up until a few months before she was found by Thraes in the Dragon Spine Mountains. What she remembered was spending time with the wolves and scavenging their kills.

During The Nazhor Chronicles in the Spring of 5119, Darcena learned about her forgotten past. The memory meek Kheelin told Darcena that her Grot'karesh father was a brute and bloodthirsty monster. Darcena's mother stayed loyal to her father, even when he went into hiding deep in the Dragonspine Mountains while Darcena was a baby. Her father told her mother that he would keep her safe and bring food and fire, but he did not, and both Darcena and her mother were weak. Darcena's mother fed Darcena all of her own food and begged her father to go back to town, but he refused. She decided to leave in order to bring Darcena to safety, but Darcena's father attacked her and swore to kill her and "the runt" if Darcena's mother left him. Darcena's mother couldn't abide this so, as a strong woman, she picked up the axe she used to split wood and planted in in his forehead. Darcena's mother was starving, but she picked up her baby and left to find shelter and food.

Darcena's mother was against it but the clan was insistent.

Out of the Wolf's Den (Spring 5094- Summer 5094)

Darcena was found by Thraes, a woodsman, in a wolf's den in the Dragon Spine near Icemule Trace in Spring of 5094. He went home and told his wife, Oxana, about his find. Oxana spent months trying to gain the trust of the wolf giant, finally convincing her to come out of the wolf's den and move into their home in the fall of the same year. Darcena was approximately ten years old. During the The Nazhor Chronicles in 5119, Darcena learned that it is most likely that she took on so many characteristics of the wolves because of a mind wipe that the Vaikalimara Clan imposed upon her not too far before that.

Around the Village (Winter 5094-Summer 5097)

Once in Oxana and Thraes' village, Darcena grew strong and so did they. They taught her to speak in Common and taught her many basic life skills. After a black out, Darcena discovered Oxana, Thraes, and their child Brone were dead. Believing she was responsible, she left the village and found her way to Wehnimer's Landing.

Suppressing the Beast (Fall 5097- Summer 5104)

After the slaughter of her adopted family, Darcena was lost and confused. Stumbling through the gates of the Landing, she decided she was tired of traveling and she wanted to make a home of it. Darcena wanted to be accepted in her new home, so she suppressed and hid as much of her inner beast as possible. Peeks slid out here and there, and some guessed at her true nature. Telling few of her story, she sought out meaning from a variety of places, seeking to understand her nightmarish visions of undead, trolls, and giants. She learned more about her supposed clan, the Grot'karesh, and their purpose in life. She developed friendships, was adopted into a large Landing-style family, married three times, and was solidly betrayed by two of her husbands. She participated in numerous wars, took sojourns to Icemule Trace, River's Rest, and Teras Isle for months on end, and briefly visited the Elven Nations before returning back home. Near the end of her time in the Landing, she began to take frequent trips into the Dragon Spine as she searched for her husband, Neq, who had disappeared. Eventually, she walked out the gates and did not return.

The Ishan (Summer 5104-Summer 5117)

The Butcher Emergent (Summer 5117 - 5119)

Upon returning to the Landing, Darcena found that the curse seemed to flare around a specific group of adventurers, and she found it more and more difficult to combat its effects. In her failure to control herself, her inner nature was revealed more overtly than it ever had been before. She found acceptance from several of those adventurers and she shed the fear she had been living with, revealing herself as The Butcher. Only time would tell if she could bend the curse to save the world or if she would lose herself in its depths.
