Favor is the currency of the Order of Voln used to both advance to a higher rank or power its symbols. It is bestowed upon members by the Pantheon of Liabo Arkati and is gained by freeing (killing) undead or witnessing their release from their accursed plight.

Gaining Favor

When a member of the Order of Voln bears witness to the release of an undead creature, that member receives favor.

Favor Messaging

You hear a sound like a weeping child as a white glow separates itself from the <UNDEAD'S> body as it rises, disappearing into the heavens.

A Master (rank 26 member) of the Order of Voln can also use the globe in the Master's hall to obtain favor if he or she does not currently have any. One must KNEEL (verb), TOUCH (verb), and KISS (verb) the globe to obtain this favor. This grants about half a revolution (approximately 500 units) of favor and consumes one deed.

Measuring Accumulated Favor

Favor can be viewed with the Resource verb.

The globe can also be used to view a master's available favor. By TOUCHing this globe, a Voln Master will receive a reading, measured in revolutions, of his/her approximate available favor. Each count or revolution represents 1000 favor. A member whose favor exceeds 2,147,483,647 units will receive messaging indicating that the number of revolutions is too many to count. There is a stored favor cap, but according to a GM's response, this cap is an extraordinarily high number and probably hasn't been reached by any character.

If the globe is cold when TOUCHed, the character has no favor stored.

Globe Messaging

>LOOK GLOBE
You see Elanthia etched on a globe of pure silver.
>TOUCH GLOBE
You reach out and touch the globe.
The globe hums and spins around quickly.
You try to count the number of spins and figure it was at least 250 revolutions.

In the above example the globe reading of 250 spins represents a minimum of 250,000 units of favor. The next globe reading is 300 spins. So the actual available units of favor is equal to or greater than 250k but less than 300k units.

Favor gained from releasing an undead is equal to [( character level ÷ 15 ) × creature level )]. Round up the result to the next highest integer. This assumes that the character releases the undead solo and the creature has sustained no previous damage.

The simple act of witnessing the release of an undead creature also grants favor. The percentage of favor gained from witnessing, but not contributing in any other way, is 1/3 (33.33%) of total favor. Note: roundup the calculated favor.

Example
A level 15 character releasing a level 15 undead creature gains 15 favor. If this character merely observes the release but doesn't contribute in any other way, he/she will receive 5 favor (15/3).

Calculating Favor Gained

The amount of favor gained from releasing an undead is both character and creature level based.

Formula

round up((Character Level ÷ 15) × creature level) = Units of Favor

Note: This formula assumes a solo kill on a freshly genned undead. Less favor is gained when either observing the release or partially contributing to the kill.

Voln masters receive 30% and non-masters 20% favor when observing the release of an undead but not contributing any damage. It is not necessary to be grouped with the character/s who are actually doing the damage. It is also not necessary for the releaser to be a Voln member.

Example: A voln master, level 40, observes the release of a level 15 wraith. If the voln master had killed the creature solo, he/she would have gained (40 ÷ 15) × 15 = 40 favor. By just observing another character release the undead, he/she gains 40 × .30 = 12 favor. A level 40 non-master would have gained 40 × .20 = 8 favor.

Examples

1. Lvl 3 character, Lvl 3 undead
(3 ÷ 15) × 3 = 1 favor

2. Lvl 15 character, Lvl 10 undead
(15 ÷ 15) × 10 = 10 favor

3. Lvl 30 character, Lvl 30 undead
(30 ÷ 15) × 30 = 60 favor

4. Lvl 75 character, Lvl 80 undead
(75 ÷ 15) × 80 = 400 favor

5. Lvl 100 character, Lvl 100 undead
(100 ÷ 15) × 100 = 667 favor

Conversion Factor Table

The amount of favor gained from releasing an undead is both character and creature level based. This table lists the multipliers used to calculate these values. To calculate favor gained, first select the appropriate conversion factor corresponding to the character's level. Second, multiply this factor by the creature's level.

For example, a level 63 character has a conversion factor of 4.200. At this level, the character will gain 4.2 units of favor per creature level. When this character releases a level 50 undead, the favor gained is [ round up( 4.2 × 50 ) = 210 ].

Advancement Favor Cost

The following table includes the formula for calculating the minimum favor required to obtain each Voln step. The term level2 refers to the character's level and is read as level squared.

For example, level2 for a level 20 character is 20 × 20 = 400 and the favor necessary to advance from step 25 to step 26 is:

2500 + (202 × 45) ÷ 3)) = 8500 favor

The favor required for the next step is calculated when a character attempts to advance to that step. That is, it does not matter what level the character was when starting their advancement. If a character's level increases while gaining favor towards the next step, the favor requirement increases immediately based on the new level.

Other Symbol Costs

To determine the approximate favor cost of other symbols, multiply the Symbol of Return cost from the table above by the corresponding factor in the table below.

Example

To calculate the Symbol of Transcendence favor cost for a level 40 character, multiply the level 40 Symbol of Return cost (728 favor) by the transcendence factor (0.60) listed in the table below.

728 × 0.60 = 437 favor
