This article is about the merchant event. For the metaphysical gateway of souls in the afterlife, see Ebon Gate (gate).

Ebon Gate (or EG) is a yearly paid merchant event that occurs at the end of October/beginning of November, and is focused on death and celebrating the Eve of the Reunion. There have been several different ghost towns for EG, each with their own backstory and mini-quests, but the basic mapping of the area for shopping remains the same. The first EG was in 1998, making it the longest running regularly scheduled merchant event.

  • Evermore Hollow
    • Automated Games - entries purchased with SimuCoins. Each offers the ability to earn soul shards.
      • Trick-or-Treat - Returning in 2022 to Evermore Hollow, Trick-or-Treat allows participants to obtain a variety of prizes. Cost for entry is 100 SimuCoins.
      • Herb Hunt - New in 2022, the Herb Hunt allows participants the chance to wander the Gardens of Bittermere woods in search of a toadshade, similar to the Fox Hunt at Rumor Woods. Lucky winners may even find a new Mandrake pet to take home. Cost for entry is 100 SimuCoins.
      • Arena of the Abyss - Returning in 2022 to Evermore Hollow. Entrants face five undead creatures, one a time, and when complete, prizes are awarded, including a chance at necrotic ring. Cost for entry is 10 SimuCoins.
      • Undergrowth of Bittermere Woods - Premiering 2024 to Evermore Hollow. Entrants can complete 1 witch task, and when complete, prizes are awarded, including a chance at Lightweaver's Ocarina. Cost for entry is 10 SimuCoins.
      • Sonreeva - New in 2022 to Evermore Hollow, alternatively known as Newcropolis. More information coming soon. Cost for entry is 10 SimuCoins. **Live Games - accessible with a merchant pass. To view the schedule, click here. Note: All times listed in EDT.
    • Spook Contest - New in 2022, join the contest by visiting the Spectral Waifling at the Spookorium to get started. Top five winners at the end of Ebon Gate will receive special titles.
    • Fishing - Returning in 2022 to Evermore Hollow. As in previous years, participants can throw a line into the water and win various prizes, including new Death Announcement Customizations. Cost will be 50 soul shards per entry.
  • Caligos Isle - Click here to view information on activities at Caligos Isle.
    • Automated Games - accessible with a games pass
      • Digging - Return of a favorite. Dig for gems, prizes, and seashells on the beach. Dig enough and get the temporary prename title of Beachcomber.
      • Mini Games - Choose from different games to win prizes from (most prizes moved to Jangling Junker in 2019).
    • Fishing - One of Elanthia's favorite pastimes arrives, with the chance to win seashells, gems, or premade spell preps or customizations. Entry is 50 seashells and does not require a games pass.
    • Live Games - accessible with a merchant pass
      • GHOUL - Similar to BINGO, participants can purchase cards each year to play with their friends and compete for prizes.
    • Diving Competition - New in 2018 - For 50 seashells, you can jump off a cliff and dive into the waters surrounding Caligos Isle. Top five divers at the end of each festival will be forever memorialized with the unique post-name title, Caligos Diving Champion. Prizes are not awarded from the feeders, but it does offer some unique gems not available in other games.
    • Arena of the Abyss: New in 2019 - Missing Duskruin Arena? For 100 seashells, you can access a similar fighting venue run by demons. Entrants face five undead creatures, one a time, and when complete, prizes are awarded, including a chance at necrotic ring.
    • Trick-or-Treat: New in 2020 - A beloved activity at Ebon Gate, it was reintroduced on Caligos Isle as a SimuCoin activity. Prizes include seashells, candy, quest items, or Treasure Trove tokens. In 2021, invitations to attend the Eve of the Reunion Event was introduced.
    • Treasure Pile: New in 2021 - Pay seashells to pull from various tiers of prizes, ranging from 10 seashells to 25,000 seashells.
    • Deep Sea Diving: Dive into the waters alongside the Isle and explore the remains of the Wavedancer for prizes and quest items. - Discontinued after 2019

Currency

  • Evermore Hollow
The featured currency for Evermore Hollow is soul shards which are used to purchase goods and services from the various shops. They can be earned through participation in the various available activities.

Caligos Isle introduced shops that has a mixture of currencies, where some take silvers and others take Ebon Gate seashells, the currency exclusive to Caligos Isle.

Shopping

Shopping is available on the grounds, with new items introduced for sale each year.

Treasure Trove

Introduced in 2019, Ebon Gate features a Treasure Trove raffle area similar to the one found at Duskruin. - Discontinued after 2022.

Eve of the Reunion

Debuting in 2021, the Eve of the Reunion event offers those lucky enough to find an invitation Trick-or-Treating opportunity to purchase necrotic ring charging goo and get one of the remaining trove items not drawn during the raffles. - Discontinued after 2022.

Merchant Work and Raffles

Merchant week during the festival features many merchants and raffles available to those with a merchant pass.

Automated Services

Automated services are those that can be performed without merchant intervention and are done through NPC interactions.

  • Incanter - Returning once again to charge carousels, the incanter can be found wandering the grounds.
  • Quinton Manse - New in 2022, Quinton Manse features NPCs capable of performing much sought after services. Custom flare certificates will be sold here, as well.
    • Fusion Shaman - Have a great enhancive on a not-so-great item? Tokens found in Arena of the Abyss grant access to his services, and from there, you can select which enhancive property to convert to a tier 2 fusion orb. He can be found in the Parlor.
    • Dabbler - New to Evermore Hollow, the dabbler can automatically remove properties from equipment, similar to Duskruin. He can be found in the Eastern Nook.
    • Study - Unlock certificates of items previously sold can be purchased here.
    • Sylinar - Returning in 2022, Sylinar is hiding out in the Garden and will be offering the same services he had before, with some improvements:
    • Auto-flarer - Debuting in 2018 at Caligos Isle, the auto-flarer grants flares, both scripted and not, to eligible items when presented with an appropriate token and payment. He can be found in the Western Nook. For a list of eligible flares, click here.

Quest Reward Information

This Guidebook starts you on your adventures in Naidem by giving you small tasks to complete. Each task unlocks a new chapter in your Guidebook that is designed to ease your transition into this new realm. Note: Regardless of if you’ve completed the quest, each portal leading to a merchant’s workroom has been equipped with a Monster Bold display of what the merchant is working on, when they started, and how long they will be working.

Completing every quest fully unlocks the Guidebook and provides the following:

  • Detailed chapters of about each area in Bittermere Woods, Ember Orchard, Evermore Hollow, Gleyminn Anni River, and Graveyard Temporalis.
  • Your book now becomes a guide to working merchants during Service Week.
  • Your book now tells you what each merchant is working on and when they started.
  • Your book now becomes a guide to all currently running raffles.
  • Your book now teleports you to the shop of a working merchant (PnC only).

Caligos Isle

Each year, participants had the opportunity to complete a quest that would gain them "favor" as part of the storyline. Gaining favor would unlock mechanical benefits associated with the original quest prize, a ghezyte chelioboros item. In 2020, the storyline advanced to feature several factions following other deities working against Ghezresh. In 2021, five separate quests focusing on different NPCs and the resolution to their stories were introduced.

Feywrot Mire

Attendees were able to participate in Feywrot Mire's Key to the Midway quest that was began when checking in the a stooped old gypsy woman. Those who completed all the necessary steps were granted an intricately painted tin carousel, which allowed them to transport to the carousel midway game while on the Feywrot Mire grounds.

2021 some grey elesine sandals with twisted indigo suede ties While the crisscrossing main straps, heel risers, and heel leashes of the sandals are made of lustrous light grey elesine, the soles and footbed are a dull-finished pewter leather. Woven along the strips of elesine of the upper straps and heel leash are thin cords of indigo suede that extend beyond the base structure of the sandal to serve as ties. The dye work on the suede is inconsistent, ranging from light blue to dark and back again, like the moonlight-dappled waves of a nighttime sea. N/A
2020 an indigo elesine sack embroidered with coils of shadowy eels The construction of this sack is double-walled with an indigo exterior, while the interior is a soft, misty grey. Cording in a twisted braid of both colors is fed through the gathered mouth of the container and into a pewter chelioboros clasp to ensure the safety of the items within. Amongst the indigo folds of elesine is subtle eel embroidery a shade or two off from that of the background, and clever tailoring along with the natural sheen of the fabric gives the creatures the illusion of movement. 2019 a grey-trimmed indigo elesine tunic Cut to hit the wearer at mid-thigh, the tunic is tailored of fine elesine dyed an uncompromising shade of indigo. Elaborately embroidered swirls in silvered grey threading trim the edges of the lower hem and the keyhole neckline, coiling like errant wisps of fog, while a set of laces slither through electrum eyelets lined from mid-chest to throat. The cuffs of the sleeves bear similar lacing, as do the splits on either side, though both are merely decorative. N/A
2018 a pair of grey elesine pants The elesine from which the pants have been tailored is immaculate, and the subtle metallic sheen lent to the sea silk by the interwoven threads of electrum give the garment a flowy drape. Indigo embroidery chases the outer seam of each leg as the bodies of eels woven together end to end all the way to the cuff. From one of the front belt loops, a thin length of chain is fixed, and it dangles a simple ghezyte chelioboros medallion. N/A
2017 a deeply hooded grey elesine robe Deep grey in hue, the robe is meticulously tailored and in pristine condition. The elesine from which it is woven has a triaxial pattern accented by the subtle metallic sheen of the sea silk base and thread-thin strands of electrum. Along the edges of the deep hood and belled sleeves are tendrils of indigo satin, the embroidery sinuous and curved like the lithe body of an eel. At the throat, a ghezyte chelioboros clasp closes the robe.
